[Old Greek] In the third year of the reign of Baltasar, a vision which I, Daniel, saw, after my seeing the first one. [Theodotion] In the third year of the kingship of Baltasar the king, a vision appeared to me, I Daniel, after the one that appeared to me at the beginning.
[Old Greek] And I saw in the vision of my dream, while I was in the city of Susa, which is in the country of Elymais; and I was still at the gate of Ailam. [Theodotion] And I was in Susa the citadel, which is in the country of Ailam; and I saw in a vision, and I was at the Oubal.
[Old Greek] Looking up I saw one great ram standing opposite the gate, and it had horns, and the one was higher than the other, and the higher one kept rising. [Theodotion] And I lifted up my eyes and saw, and behold, one ram standing before the Oubal, and it had horns, and the horns were high, and the one was higher than the other, and the high one was coming up last.
[Old Greek] And after these things I saw the ram butting toward the east and toward the north and toward the west and toward the south; and all the beasts did not stand before it, and there was none who rescued out of its hands; and it did as it wished and was exalted. [Theodotion] I saw the ram butting toward the sea and the north and the south; and all the beasts shall not stand before it, and there was none who delivered out of its hand; and it did according to its own will and became great.
[Old Greek] And I was pondering, and behold, a he-goat of the goats was coming from the west over the face of the earth, and it did not touch the earth; and the goat had one horn between its eyes. [Theodotion] And I was considering, and behold, a he-goat of the goats was coming from the southwest over the face of all the earth, and it was not touching the earth; and the goat had a conspicuous horn between its eyes.
[Old Greek] And it came to the ram that had the horns, which I saw standing at the gate, and it ran at him in the heat of wrath. [Theodotion] And it came as far as the ram that had the horns, which I saw standing before the Oubal, and it ran at him in the impulse of its strength.
[Old Greek] And I saw it drawing near to the ram, and it was enraged at him and struck and shattered his two horns; and there was no longer strength in the ram to stand against the goat. And it tore him down to the ground and crushed him, and there was none who rescued the ram from the goat. [Theodotion] And I saw it reaching as far as the ram, and it grew savage toward him and struck the ram and shattered both his horns; and there was no strength in the ram to stand before it. And it threw him to the ground and trampled him, and there was none who delivered the ram out of its hand.
[Old Greek] And the he-goat of the goats grew exceedingly strong; and when it had grown strong, its great horn was broken, and four other horns came up behind it, toward the four winds of heaven. [Theodotion] And the he-goat of the goats became exceedingly great; and when it grew strong, its great horn was broken, and four horns came up beneath it, toward the four winds of heaven.
[Old Greek] And out of one of them sprang up one strong horn, and it grew strong and struck toward the south and toward the east and toward the north. [Theodotion] And out of one of them came forth one strong horn, and it became exceedingly great toward the south and toward the east and toward the host.
[Old Greek] And it was exalted as far as the stars of heaven, and it was dashed down to the earth from among the stars, and by them it was trampled. [Theodotion] It became great as far as the host of heaven, and there fell to the earth some of the host of heaven and of the stars, and it trampled them.
[Old Greek] until the commander-in-chief rescues the captivity. And because of him the mountains that are from of old were dashed down, and their place was taken away, and the sacrifice too; and he laid it low, down to the ground; and he prospered and it came to pass; and the sanctuary shall be made desolate. [Theodotion] And I heard one holy one speaking; and one holy one said to Phelmouni who was speaking: How long shall the vision stand, the sacrifice that has been taken away, and the sin of desolation that has been given, and the sanctuary and the host be trampled down together?
[Old Greek] And he said to him: Until evening and morning, two thousand three hundred days; and the sanctuary shall be cleansed. [Theodotion] And he said to him: Until evening and morning, two thousand and three hundred days; and the sanctuary shall be cleansed.
[Old Greek] And it came about, while I, Daniel, was beholding the vision, that I sought to understand it; and behold, there stood opposite me one like the appearance of a human being. [Theodotion] And it came about, when I, Daniel, had seen the vision, that I sought understanding; and behold, there stood before me one like the appearance of a man.
[Old Greek] And I heard the voice of a human being between the Oulai, and it called and said: Gabriel, make that one understand the vision. And the man cried aloud and said: The vision concerns that decree. [Theodotion] And I heard the voice of a man between the Oubal, and he called and said: Gabriel, make that one understand the vision.
[Old Greek] And he came and stood beside the place where I stood; and at his coming I was alarmed and fell upon my face. And he said to me: Understand, son of man, for this vision is yet for an hour of the time. [Theodotion] And he came and stood beside where I stood; and at his coming I was terrified, and I fall upon my face. And he said to me: Understand, son of man, for the vision is yet for the end of the time.
[Old Greek] And while he was speaking with me, I fell asleep on my face on the ground; and touching me, he raised me up on the spot. [Theodotion] And while he was speaking with me, I fall upon my face on the ground; and he touched me and set me on my feet.
[Old Greek] And he said to me: Behold, I am declaring to you what shall be at the end of the wrath, for the sons of your people, for it yet remains for the hours of the time of consummation. [Theodotion] And he said: Behold, I am making known to you what shall be at the end of the wrath, for the vision is yet for the end of the time.
[Old Greek] The ram which you saw, the one having the horns, is the king of the Medes and Persians. [Theodotion] The ram which you saw, the one having the horns, is the king of the Medes and Persians.

[Old Greek] And his strength shall be made firm, yet not by his own strength; and he shall destroy wondrously and shall prosper and shall act; and he shall destroy rulers and the community of the holy ones. [Theodotion] And his strength is mighty, yet not by his own strength; and he shall destroy wondrous things and shall succeed and shall act; and he shall destroy mighty ones and a holy people.
[Old Greek] And his design is against the holy ones; and the falsehood in his hands shall prosper, and his heart shall be exalted; and by treachery he shall destroy many, and he shall set himself for the destruction of men; and he shall make a gathering by hand and shall sell it. [Theodotion] And the yoke of his collar shall succeed; deceit is in his hand, and in his heart he shall magnify himself; and by treachery he shall destroy many, and he shall set himself for the destruction of many; and like eggs he shall crush with his hand.
[Old Greek] The vision of the evening and the morning was found to be true; and now the vision is shut up, for it is yet for many days. [Theodotion] And the vision of the evening and of the morning, which was spoken, is true; and you, seal up the vision, for it is for many days.
[Old Greek] I, Daniel, was ill for many days; and when I had risen I again transacted the king's business. And I was faint because of the vision, and there was no one who understood. [Theodotion] And I, Daniel, lay down and was sick for days; and I rose and did the king's work. And I marvelled at the vision, and there was no one who understood.
