2 Samuel 6

And David again gathered every young man out of Israel, about seventy thousand.

And David arose and went, he and all the people with him, from the rulers of Judah, in an ascent, to bring up from there the ark of God, upon which was invoked the name of the Lord of the powers who sits upon the Cheruben upon it.

And they mounted the ark of the Lord upon a new wagon, and took it up out of the house of Aminadab who was on the hill; and Oza and his brothers, sons of Aminadab, were driving the wagon.

with the ark; and his brothers were going before the ark.

And David and the sons of Israel were making merry before the Lord with tuned instruments, with might and with songs, and with lyres and with harps and with drums and with cymbals and with pipes.

And they come as far as the threshing floor of Nodab, and Oza stretched out his hand to the ark of God to hold it fast, and he grasped it, because the calf had jolted it aside so that he had to hold it.

And the Lord was angry with Oza, and God struck him there, and he died there beside the ark of the Lord before God.

And David was disheartened because the Lord had broken a breach upon Oza, and that place has been called the Breach of Oza until this day.

And David feared the Lord on that day, saying: How shall the ark of the Lord come to me?

And David was not willing to turn the ark of the covenant of the Lord aside to himself into the city of David, and David turned it aside into the house of Abeddara the Gethite.

And the ark of the Lord sat in the house of Abeddara the Gethite for three months, and the Lord blessed the whole house of Abeddara and all that was his.

And it was reported to King David, saying: The Lord has blessed the house of Abeddara and all that is his, on account of the ark of God. And David went and brought up the ark of the Lord out of the house of Abeddara into the city of David with gladness.

And there were with them, as they bore the ark, seven choirs, and a sacrifice, a calf and a lamb.

And David struck up music on tuned instruments before the Lord, and David was clothed in a distinctive robe.

And David and all the house of Israel brought up the ark of the Lord with shouting and with the sound of a trumpet.

And it came about, as the ark was coming to the city of David, that Melchol the daughter of Saul was looking down through the window and saw King David dancing and striking up music before the Lord, and she despised him in her heart.

And they bring the ark of the Lord and set it up in its place, in the middle of the tent which David pitched for it. And David offered up whole burnt offerings before the Lord, and peace offerings.

And David finished offering up the whole burnt offerings and the peace offerings, and he blessed the people in the name of the Lord of the powers.

And he distributed to all the people, to the whole host of Israel, from Dan to Bersabee, from man to woman, to each one a cake of bread and a hearth-cake and a flat cake from the griddle. And all the people departed, each to his own house.

And David returned to bless his own house, and Melchol the daughter of Saul came out to meet David and blessed him and said: How the king of Israel has been glorified today, who uncovered himself today in the eyes of the maidservants of his own servants, just as one of the dancers shamelessly uncovers himself!

And David said to Melchol: Before the Lord I will dance. Blessed be the Lord, who chose me above your father and above all his house, to appoint me leader over his people, over Israel. And I will make merry and I will dance before the Lord.

And I will uncover myself yet again in this way, and I will be worthless in your eyes; and with the maidservants of whom you spoke, I shall be held in honor.

And to Melchol the daughter of Saul there was no child until the day of her death.
