Hominis est animam praeparare , et Domini gubernare linguam .
The plans of the heart belong to man, but the answer of the tongue is from Yahweh.
心中的謀算在乎人; 舌頭的應對由於耶和華。
16:2▷ ⧉ ⤴︎
Omnes viae hominis patent oculis ejus ; spirituum ponderator est Dominus .
All the ways of a man are clean in his own eyes, but Yahweh weighs the motives.
人一切所行的,在自己眼中看為清潔; 惟有耶和華衡量人心。

Revela Domino opera tua , et dirigentur cogitationes tuae .
Commit your deeds to Yahweh, and your plans shall succeed.
你所做的,要交託耶和華, 你所謀的,就必成立。

Universa propter semetipsum operatus est Dominus ; impium quoque ad diem malum .
Yahweh has made everything for its own end— yes, even the wicked for the day of evil.
耶和華所造的,各適其用; 就是惡人也為禍患的日子所造。

Abominatio Domini est omnis arrogans ; etiamsi manus ad manum fuerit , non est innocens . Initium viae bonae facere justitiam ; accepta est autem apud Deum magis quam immolare hostias .
Everyone who is proud in heart is an abomination to Yahweh; they shall certainly not be unpunished.
凡心裏驕傲的,為耶和華所憎惡; 雖然連手,他必不免受罰。

Misericordia et veritate redimitur iniquitas , et in timore Domini declinatur a malo .
By mercy and truth iniquity is atoned for. By the fear of Yahweh men depart from evil.
因憐憫誠實,罪孽得贖; 敬畏耶和華的,遠離惡事。

Cum placuerint Domino viae hominis , inimicos quoque ejus convertet ad pacem .
When a man’s ways please Yahweh, he makes even his enemies to be at peace with him.
人所行的,若蒙耶和華喜悅, 耶和華也使他的仇敵與他和好。

Melius est parum cum justitia quam multi fructus cum iniquitate .
Better is a little with righteousness, than great revenues with injustice.
多有財利,行事不義, 不如少有財利,行事公義。

Cor hominis disponit viam suam , sed Domini est dirigere gressus ejus .
A man’s heart plans his course, but Yahweh directs his steps.
人心籌算自己的道路; 惟耶和華指引他的腳步。

Divinatio in labiis regis ; in judicio non errabit os ejus .
Inspired judgments are on the lips of the king. He shall not betray his mouth.
王的嘴中有神語, 審判之時,他的口必不差錯。

Pondus et statera judicia Domini sunt , et opera ejus omnes lapides sacculi .
Honest balances and scales are Yahweh’s; all the weights in the bag are his work.
公道的天平和秤都屬耶和華; 囊中一切法碼都為他所定。

Abominabiles regi qui agunt impie , quoniam justitia firmatur solium .
It is an abomination for kings to do wrong, for the throne is established by righteousness.
作惡,為王所憎惡, 因國位是靠公義堅立。

Voluntas regum labia justa ; qui recta loquitur diligetur .
Righteous lips are the delight of kings. They value one who speaks the truth.
公義的嘴為王所喜悅; 說正直話的,為王所喜愛。

Indignatio regis nuntii mortis , et vir sapiens placabit eam .
The king’s wrath is a messenger of death, but a wise man will pacify it.
王的震怒如殺人的使者; 但智慧人能止息王怒。

In hilaritate vultus regis vita , et clementia ejus quasi imber serotinus .
In the light of the king’s face is life. His favor is like a cloud of the spring rain.
王的臉光使人有生命; 王的恩典好像春雲時雨。

Posside sapientiam , quia auro melior est , et acquire prudentiam , quia pretiosior est argento .
How much better it is to get wisdom than gold! Yes, to get understanding is to be chosen rather than silver.
得智慧勝似得金子; 選聰明強如選銀子。

Semita justorum declinat mala ; custos animae suae servat viam suam .
The highway of the upright is to depart from evil. He who keeps his way preserves his soul.
正直人的道是遠離惡事; 謹守己路的,是保全性命。

Contritionem praecedit superbia , et ante ruinam exaltatur spiritus .
Pride goes before destruction, and an arrogant spirit before a fall.
驕傲在敗壞以先; 狂心在跌倒之前。

Melius est humiliari cum mitibus quam dividere spolia cum superbis .
It is better to be of a lowly spirit with the poor, than to divide the plunder with the proud.
心裏謙卑與窮乏人來往, 強如將擄物與驕傲人同分。

Eruditus in verbo reperiet bona , et qui sperat in Domino beatus est .
He who heeds the Word finds prosperity. Whoever trusts in Yahweh is blessed.
謹守訓言的,必得好處; 倚靠耶和華的,便為有福。

Qui sapiens est corde appellabitur prudens , et qui dulcis eloquio majora percipiet .
The wise in heart shall be called prudent. Pleasantness of the lips promotes instruction.
心中有智慧,必稱為通達人; 嘴中的甜言,加增人的學問。

Fons vitae eruditio possidentis ; doctrina stultorum fatuitas .
Understanding is a fountain of life to one who has it, but the punishment of fools is their folly.
人有智慧就有生命的泉源; 愚昧人必被愚昧懲治。

Cor sapientis erudiet os ejus , et labiis ejus addet gratiam .
The heart of the wise instructs his mouth, and adds learning to his lips.
智慧人的心教訓他的口, 又使他的嘴增長學問。

Favus mellis composita verba ; dulcedo animae sanitas ossium .
Pleasant words are a honeycomb, sweet to the soul, and health to the bones.
良言如同蜂房, 使心覺甘甜,使骨得醫治。

Est via quae videtur homini recta , et novissima ejus ducunt ad mortem .
There is a way which seems right to a man, but in the end it leads to death.
有一條路,人以為正, 至終成為死亡之路。

Anima laborantis laborat sibi , quia compulit eum os suum .
The appetite of the laboring man labors for him, for his mouth urges him on.
勞力人的胃口使他勞力, 因為他的口腹催逼他。

A worthless man devises mischief. His speech is like a scorching fire.

Homo perversus suscitat lites , et verbosus separat principes .
A perverse man stirs up strife. A whisperer separates close friends.
乖僻人播散紛爭; 傳舌的,離間密友。

Vir iniquus lactat amicum suum , et ducit eum per viam non bonam .
A man of violence entices his neighbor, and leads him in a way that is not good.
強暴人誘惑鄰舍, 領他走不善之道。

Qui attonitis oculis cogitat prava , mordens labia sua perficit malum .
One who winks his eyes to plot perversities, one who compresses his lips, is bent on evil.
眼目緊合的,圖謀乖僻; 嘴唇緊閉的,成就邪惡。

Corona dignitatis senectus , quae in viis justitiae reperietur .
Gray hair is a crown of glory. It is attained by a life of righteousness.
白髮是榮耀的冠冕, 在公義的道上必能得着。

Melior est patiens viro forti , et qui dominatur animo suo expugnatore urbium .
One who is slow to anger is better than the mighty; one who rules his spirit, than he who takes a city.
不輕易發怒的,勝過勇士; 治服己心的,強如取城。

Sortes mittuntur in sinum , sed a Domino temperantur .
The lot is cast into the lap, but its every decision is from Yahweh.
