Filius sapiens doctrina patris ; qui autem illusor est non audit cum arguitur .
A wise son listens to his father’s instruction, but a scoffer doesn’t listen to rebuke.
智慧子聽父親的教訓; 褻慢人不聽責備。

De fructu oris sui homo satiabitur bonis : anima autem praevaricatorum iniqua .
By the fruit of his lips, a man enjoys good things, but the unfaithful crave violence.
人因口所結的果子,必享美福; 奸詐人必遭強暴。

Qui custodit os suum custodit animam suam ; qui autem inconsideratus est ad loquendum , sentiet mala .
He who guards his mouth guards his soul. One who opens wide his lips comes to ruin.
謹守口的,得保生命; 大張嘴的,必致敗亡。

Vult et non vult piger ; anima autem operantium impinguabitur .
The soul of the sluggard desires, and has nothing, but the desire of the diligent shall be fully satisfied.
懶惰人羨慕,卻無所得; 殷勤人必得豐裕。

Verbum mendax justus detestabitur ; impius autem confundit , et confundetur .
A righteous man hates lies, but a wicked man brings shame and disgrace.
義人恨惡謊言; 惡人有臭名,且致慚愧。

Justitia custodit innocentis viam , impietas autem peccatorem supplantat .
Righteousness guards the way of integrity, but wickedness overthrows the sinner.
行為正直的,有公義保守; 犯罪的,被邪惡傾覆。

Est quasi dives , cum nihil habeat , et est quasi pauper , cum in multis divitiis sit .
There are some who pretend to be rich, yet have nothing. There are some who pretend to be poor, yet have great wealth.
假作富足的,卻一無所有; 裝作窮乏的,卻廣有財物。

Redemptio animae viri divitiae suae ; qui autem pauper est , increpationem non sustinet .
The ransom of a man’s life is his riches, but the poor hear no threats.
人的資財是他生命的贖價; 窮乏人卻聽不見威嚇的話。

Lux justorum laetificat : lucerna autem impiorum extinguetur .
The light of the righteous shines brightly, but the lamp of the wicked is snuffed out.

Inter superbos semper jurgia sunt ; qui autem agunt omnia cum consilio , reguntur sapientia .
Pride only breeds quarrels, but wisdom is with people who take advice.
驕傲只啟爭競; 聽勸言的,卻有智慧。

Substantia festinata minuetur ; quae autem paulatim colligitur manu , multiplicabitur .
Wealth gained dishonestly dwindles away, but he who gathers by hand makes it grow.
不勞而得之財必然消耗; 勤勞積蓄的,必見加增。

Spes quae differtur affligit animam ; lignum vitae desiderium veniens .
Hope deferred makes the heart sick, but when longing is fulfilled, it is a tree of life.
所盼望的遲延未得,令人心憂; 所願意的臨到,卻是生命樹。

Qui detrahit alicui rei , ipse se in futurum obligat ; qui autem timet praeceptum , in pace versabitur . Animae dolosae errant in peccatis : justi autem misericordes sunt , et miserantur .
Whoever despises instruction will pay for it, but he who respects a command will be rewarded.
藐視訓言的,自取滅亡; 敬畏誡命的,必得善報。

Lex sapientis fons vitae , ut declinet a ruina mortis .
The teaching of the wise is a spring of life, to turn from the snares of death.
智慧人的法則 是生命的泉源, 可以使人離開死亡的網羅。

Doctrina bona dabit gratiam ; in itinere contemptorum vorago .
Good understanding wins favor, but the way of the unfaithful is hard.

Every prudent man acts from knowledge, but a fool exposes folly.

Nuntius impii cadet in malum ; legatus autem fidelis , sanitas .
A wicked messenger falls into trouble, but a trustworthy envoy gains healing.

Egestas et ignominia ei qui deserit disciplinam ; qui autem acquiescit arguenti glorificabitur .
Poverty and shame come to him who refuses discipline, but he who heeds correction shall be honored.
棄絕管教的,必致貧受辱; 領受責備的,必得尊榮。

Desiderium si compleatur delectat animam ; detestantur stulti eos qui fugiunt mala .
Longing fulfilled is sweet to the soul, but fools detest turning from evil.
所欲的成就,心覺甘甜; 遠離惡事,為愚昧人所憎惡。

Qui cum sapientibus graditur sapiens erit ; amicus stultorum similis efficietur .
One who walks with wise men grows wise, but a companion of fools suffers harm.
與智慧人同行的,必得智慧; 和愚昧人作伴的,必受虧損。

Peccatores persequitur malum , et justis retribuentur bona .
Misfortune pursues sinners, but prosperity rewards the righteous.
禍患追趕罪人; 義人必得善報。

Bonus reliquit haeredes filios et nepotes , et custoditur justo substantia peccatoris .
A good man leaves an inheritance to his children’s children, but the wealth of the sinner is stored for the righteous.
善人給子孫遺留產業; 罪人為義人積存資財。

Multi cibi in novalibus patrum , et aliis congregantur absque judicio .
An abundance of food is in poor people’s fields, but injustice sweeps it away.
窮人耕種多得糧食, 但因不義,有消滅的。

Qui parcit virgae odit filium suum ; qui autem diligit illum instanter erudit .
One who spares the rod hates his son, but one who loves him is careful to discipline him.

Justus comedit et replet animam suam ; venter autem impiorum insaturabilis .
The righteous one eats to the satisfying of his soul, but the belly of the wicked goes hungry.
