13:1
בֵּ֣ן חָ֭כָם מ֣וּסַר אָ֑ב וְ֝לֵ֗ץ לֹא־שָׁמַ֥ע גְּעָרָֽה׃
υἱὸς πανοῦργος ὑπήκοος πατρί υἱὸς δὲ ἀνήκοος ἐν ἀπωλείᾳ
Filius sapiens doctrina patris ; qui autem illusor est non audit cum arguitur.
ወልድ፡ ማእምር፡ ሰማዔ፡ አብ፡ ይከውን፡ ወወልድሰ፡ ዘኢይሰምዕ፡ ይከውን፡ ለኀጒል።
A wise son listens to his father’s instruction, but a scoffer doesn’t listen to rebuke.
13:2
מִפְּרִ֣י פִי־אִ֭ישׁ יֹ֣אכַל ט֑וֹב וְנֶ֖פֶשׁ בֹּגְדִ֣ים חָמָֽס׃
ἀπὸ καρπῶν δικαιοσύνης φάγεται ἀγαθός ψυχαὶ δὲ παρανόμων ὀλοῦνται ἄωροι
De fructu oris sui homo satiabitur bonis : anima autem praevaricatorum iniqua.
ወእምፍሬ፡ ጽድቁ፡ ይበልዕ፡ ኄር፡ ወነፍሰ፡ ዓማፅያንሰ፡ ይትኀጐል፡ ቆዖሙ።
By the fruit of his lips, a man enjoys good things, but the unfaithful crave violence.
13:3
נֹצֵ֣ר פִּ֭יו שֹׁמֵ֣ר נַפְשׁ֑וֹ פֹּשֵׂ֥ק שְׂ֝פָתָ֗יו מְחִתָּה־לֽוֹ׃
ὃς φυλάσσει τὸ ἑαυτοῦ στόμα τηρεῖ τὴν ἑαυτοῦ ψυχήν ὁ δὲ προπετὴς χείλεσιν πτοήσει ἑαυτόν
Qui custodit os suum custodit animam suam ; qui autem inconsideratus est ad loquendum, sentiet mala.
ዘየዓቅብ፡ አፉሁ፡ ይትመኀፀና፡ ለነፍሱ፡ ወጒጒእሰ፡ በከናፍሪሁ፡ ያወድቅ፡ ርእሶ።
He who guards his mouth guards his soul. One who opens wide his lips comes to ruin.
13:4
מִתְאַוָּ֣ה וָ֭אַיִן נַפְשׁ֣וֹ עָצֵ֑ל וְנֶ֖פֶשׁ חָרֻצִ֣ים תְּדֻשָּֽׁן׃
ἐν ἐπιθυμίαις ἐστὶν πᾶς ἀεργός χεῖρες δὲ ἀνδρείων ἐν ἐπιμελείᾳ
Vult et non vult piger ; anima autem operantium impinguabitur.
ኵሉ፡ ዘኢይትቀነይ፡ ውስተ፡ ፍትወት፡ ሀሎ፡ ወእዴሆሙ፡ ለኄራን፡ ያስተሐምም።
The soul of the sluggard desires, and has nothing, but the desire of the diligent shall be fully satisfied.
13:5
דְּבַר־שֶׁ֭קֶר יִשְׂנָ֣א צַדִּ֑יק וְ֝רָשָׁ֗ע יַבְאִ֥ישׁ וְיַחְפִּֽיר׃
λόγον ἄδικον μισεῖ δίκαιος ἀσεβὴς δὲ αἰσχύνεται καὶ οὐχ ἕξει παρρησίαν
Verbum mendax justus detestabitur ; impius autem confundit, et confundetur.
ቃለ፡ ዓማፂ፡ ይጸልእ፡ ጽድቀ፡ ወረሲዕሰ፡ የኀፍር፡ ወኢይመጽእ፡ ገሃደ።
A righteous man hates lies, but a wicked man brings shame and disgrace.
13:6
צְ֭דָקָה תִּצֹּ֣ר תׇּם־דָּ֑רֶךְ וְ֝רִשְׁעָ֗ה תְּסַלֵּ֥ף חַטָּֽאת׃
δικαιοσύνη φυλάσσει ἀκάκους τοὺς δὲ ἀσεβεῖς φαύλους ποιεῖ ἁμαρτία
Justitia custodit innocentis viam, impietas autem peccatorem supplantat.
ጽድቅ፡ ተዓቅቦሙ፡ ለየዋሃን፡ በፍኖት፡ ለረሲዓንሰ፡ እቡሰ፡ ይሬስዮሙ፡ ኃጢአት።
Righteousness guards the way of integrity, but wickedness overthrows the sinner.
13:7
יֵ֣שׁ מִ֭תְעַשֵּׁר וְאֵ֣ין כֹּ֑ל מִ֝תְרוֹשֵׁ֗שׁ וְה֣וֹן רָֽב׃
εἰσὶν οἱ πλουτίζοντες ἑαυτοὺς μηδὲν ἔχοντες καὶ εἰσὶν οἱ ταπεινοῦντες ἑαυτοὺς ἐν πολλῷ πλούτῳ
Est quasi dives, cum nihil habeat, et est quasi pauper, cum in multis divitiis sit.
ቦ፡ እለ፡ ያሌዕሉ፡ ርእሶሙ፡ እንዘ፡ ምንትኒ፡ አልቦሙ፡ ወቦ፡ እለ፡ ያቴሕቱ፡ ርእሶሙ፡ እንዘ፡ ብዙኅ፡ ብዕሎሙ።
There are some who pretend to be rich, yet have nothing. There are some who pretend to be poor, yet have great wealth.
13:8
כֹּ֣פֶר נֶפֶשׁ־אִ֣ישׁ עׇשְׁר֑וֹ וְ֝רָ֗שׁ לֹא־שָׁמַ֥ע גְּעָרָֽה׃
λύτρον ἀνδρὸς ψυχῆς ὁ ἴδιος πλοῦτος πτωχὸς δὲ οὐχ ὑφίσταται ἀπειλήν
Redemptio animae viri divitiae suae ; qui autem pauper est, increpationem non sustinet.
ቤዛ፡ ነፍሱ፡ ለብእሲ፡ ጥሪተ፡ ብዕሉ፡ ወነዳይሰ፡ ኢይትቃወም፡ መዓተ።
The ransom of a man’s life is his riches, but the poor hear no threats.
13:9
אוֹר־צַדִּיקִ֥ים יִשְׂמָ֑ח וְנֵ֖ר רְשָׁעִ֣ים יִדְעָֽךְ׃
φῶς δικαίοις διὰ παντός φῶς δὲ ἀσεβῶν σβέννυται ψυχαὶ δόλιαι πλανῶνται ἐν ἁμαρτίαις δίκαιοι δὲ οἰκτίρουσιν καὶ ἐλεῶσιν
Lux justorum laetificat : lucerna autem impiorum extinguetur.
ብርሃን፡ ለጻድቃን፡ በኵሉ፡ ጊዜ፡ ወብርሃነ፡ ረሲዓንሰ፡ ትጠፍእ።
The light of the righteous shines brightly, but the lamp of the wicked is snuffed out.
13:10
רַק־בְּ֭זָדוֹן יִתֵּ֣ן מַצָּ֑ה וְאֶת־נ֖וֹעָצִ֣ים חׇכְמָֽה׃
κακὸς μεθ’ ὕβρεως πράσσει κακά οἱ δὲ ἑαυτῶν ἐπιγνώμονες σοφοί
Inter superbos semper jurgia sunt ; qui autem agunt omnia cum consilio, reguntur sapientia.
ነፍሳተ፡ ሕቡላን፡ ይስሕታ፡ በኃጢአት፡ ወጻድቃንሰ፡ ይምሕሩ፡ ወይመጸውቱ።
Pride only breeds quarrels, but wisdom is with people who take advice.
13:11
ה֭וֹן מֵהֶ֣בֶל יִמְעָ֑ט וְקֹבֵ֖ץ עַל־יָ֣ד יַרְבֶּֽה׃
ὕπαρξις ἐπισπουδαζομένη μετὰ ἀνομίας ἐλάσσων γίνεται ὁ δὲ συνάγων ἑαυτῷ μετ’ εὐσεβείας πληθυνθήσεται δίκαιος οἰκτίρει καὶ κιχρᾷ
Substantia festinata minuetur ; quae autem paulatim colligitur manu, multiplicabitur.
እኩይ፡ ዘምስለ፡ ጽእለቱ፡ ይገብር፡ እኩየ፡ ወእለሰ፡ የአምሩ፡ ርእሶሙ፡ ጠቢባን፡ እሙንቱ።
Wealth gained dishonestly dwindles away, but he who gathers by hand makes it grow.
13:12
תּוֹחֶ֣לֶת מְ֭מֻשָּׁכָה מַחֲלָה־לֵ֑ב וְעֵ֥ץ חַ֝יִּ֗ים תַּאֲוָ֥ה בָאָֽה׃
κρείσσων ἐναρχόμενος βοηθῶν καρδίᾳ τοῦ ἐπαγγελλομένου καὶ εἰς ἐλπίδα ἄγοντος δένδρον γὰρ ζωῆς ἐπιθυμία ἀγαθή
Spes quae differtur affligit animam ; lignum vitae desiderium veniens.
አጥርዮ፡ ዘይጐጒእ፡ በኃጢአት፡ ውኁደ፡ ይከውን፡ በደኃሪቱ፡ ወዘሰ፡ ያሥተጋብእ፡ ለርእሱ፡ በጽድቅ፡ ይፈደፍድ፡ ሎቱ፡ ጻድቅኒ፡ ይምሕር፡ ወይሌቅሕ።
Hope deferred makes the heart sick, but when longing is fulfilled, it is a tree of life.
13:13
בָּ֣ז לְ֭דָבָר יֵחָ֣בֶל ל֑וֹ וִירֵ֥א מִ֝צְוָ֗ה ה֣וּא יְשֻׁלָּֽם׃
ὃς καταφρονεῖ πράγματος καταφρονηθήσεται ὑπ’ αὐτοῦ ὁ δὲ φοβούμενος ἐντολήν οὗτος ὑγιαίνει υἱῷ δολίῳ οὐδὲν ἔσται ἀγαθόν οἰκέτῃ δὲ σοφῷ εὔοδοι ἔσονται πράξεις καὶ κατευθυνθήσεται ἡ ὁδὸς αὐτοῦ
Qui detrahit alicui rei, ipse se in futurum obligat ; qui autem timet praeceptum, in pace versabitur. Animae dolosae errant in peccatis : justi autem misericordes sunt, et miserantur.
ይኄይስ፡ ዘይዌጥን፡ ይርዳእ፡ ነፍሶ፡ እምነ፡ ዘይብዕል፡ ወያጸንዕ፡ ለተስፋ።
Whoever despises instruction will pay for it, but he who respects a command will be rewarded.
13:14
תּוֹרַ֣ת חָ֭כָם מְק֣וֹר חַיִּ֑ים לָ֝ס֗וּר מִמֹּ֥קְשֵׁי מָֽוֶת׃
νόμος σοφοῦ πηγὴ ζωῆς ὁ δὲ ἄνους ὑπὸ παγίδος θανεῖται
Lex sapientis fons vitae, ut declinet a ruina mortis.
ዕፅ፡ ሕይወት፡ ይእቲ፡ ፍኖት፡ ሠናይት።
The teaching of the wise is a spring of life, to turn from the snares of death.
13:15
שֵֽׂכֶל־ט֭וֹב יִתֶּן־חֵ֑ן וְדֶ֖רֶךְ בֹּגְדִ֣ים אֵיתָֽן׃
σύνεσις ἀγαθὴ δίδωσιν χάριν τὸ δὲ γνῶναι νόμον διανοίας ἐστὶν ἀγαθῆς ὁδοὶ δὲ καταφρονούντων ἐν ἀπωλείᾳ
Doctrina bona dabit gratiam ; in itinere contemptorum vorago.
ዘያሰትት፡ ግብረ፡ እግዚአብሔር፡ ውእቱኒ፡ ያሰትቶ፡ ወዘሰ፡ ይፈርህ፡ ትእዛዞ፡ የሐዩ፡ ቦቱ።
Good understanding wins favor, but the way of the unfaithful is hard.
13:16
כׇּל־עָ֭רוּם יַעֲשֶׂ֣ה בְדָ֑עַת וּ֝כְסִ֗יל יִפְרֹ֥שׂ אִוֶּֽלֶת׃
πᾶς πανοῦργος πράσσει μετὰ γνώσεως ὁ δὲ ἄφρων ἐξεπέτασεν ἑαυτοῦ κακίαν
Astutus omnia agit cum consilio ; qui autem fatuus est aperit stultitiam.
ለወልድ፡ ሕቡል፡ አልቦቱ፡ ምንትኒ፡ ሠናይ፡ ለገብርሰ፡ ጠቢብ፡ ሠናየ፡ ይከውን፡ ምግባሩ፡ ወይረትዕ፡ ፍኖቱ።
Every prudent man acts from knowledge, but a fool exposes folly.
13:17
מַלְאָ֣ךְ רָ֭שָׁע יִפֹּ֣ל בְּרָ֑ע וְצִ֖יר אֱמוּנִ֣ים מַרְפֵּֽא׃
βασιλεὺς θρασὺς ἐμπεσεῖται εἰς κακά ἄγγελος δὲ πιστὸς ῥύσεται αὐτόν
Nuntius impii cadet in malum ; legatus autem fidelis, sanitas.
ሕገ፡ ጠቢብ፡ ነቅዐ፡ ሕይወት፡ ወዘእንበለ፡ ልብሰ፡ በአበሳ፡ ይመውት።
A wicked messenger falls into trouble, but a trustworthy envoy gains healing.
13:18
רֵ֣ישׁ וְ֭קָלוֹן פּוֹרֵ֣עַ מוּסָ֑ר וְשֹׁמֵ֖ר תּוֹכַ֣חַת יְכֻבָּֽד׃
πενίαν καὶ ἀτιμίαν ἀφαιρεῖται παιδεία ὁ δὲ φυλάσσων ἐλέγχους δοξασθήσεται
Egestas et ignominia ei qui deserit disciplinam ; qui autem acquiescit arguenti glorificabitur.
አእምሮ፡ ሠናይ፡ ይሁብ፡ ጥበበ፡ ወሞገሰ፡ ወፍናዊሆሙሰ፡ ለኀዩያን፡ ውስተ፡ ኀጒል።
Poverty and shame come to him who refuses discipline, but he who heeds correction shall be honored.
13:19
תַּאֲוָ֣ה נִ֭הְיָה תֶּעֱרַ֣ב לְנָ֑פֶשׁ וְתוֹעֲבַ֥ת כְּ֝סִילִ֗ים ס֣וּר מֵרָֽע׃
ἐπιθυμίαι εὐσεβῶν ἡδύνουσιν ψυχήν ἔργα δὲ ἀσεβῶν μακρὰν ἀπὸ γνώσεως
Desiderium si compleatur delectat animam ; detestantur stulti eos qui fugiunt mala.
ኵሉ፡ ማእምር፡ ይገብር፡ በምክር፡ ወዐብድሰ፡ አሥረረ፡ እከየ፡ ዚአሁ።
Longing fulfilled is sweet to the soul, but fools detest turning from evil.
13:20
(הלוך) [הוֹלֵ֣ךְ] אֶת־חֲכָמִ֣ים (וחכם) [יֶחְכָּ֑ם] וְרֹעֶ֖ה כְסִילִ֣ים יֵרֽוֹעַ׃
ὁ συμπορευόμενος σοφοῖς σοφὸς ἔσται ὁ δὲ συμπορευόμενος ἄφροσι γνωσθήσεται
Qui cum sapientibus graditur sapiens erit ; amicus stultorum similis efficietur.
ላእክ፡ ዐብድ፡ ይወድቅ፡ ውስተ፡ እኪት፡ ወሐዋርያሰ፡ ጠቢብ፡ ያድኅን፡ ርእሶ።
One who walks with wise men grows wise, but a companion of fools suffers harm.
13:21
חַ֭טָּאִים תְּרַדֵּ֣ף רָעָ֑ה וְאֶת־צַ֝דִּיקִ֗ים יְשַׁלֶּם־טֽוֹב׃
ἁμαρτάνοντας καταδιώξεται κακά τοὺς δὲ δικαίους καταλήμψεται ἀγαθά
Peccatores persequitur malum, et justis retribuentur bona.
ንዴተ፡ ወኃሣረ፡ ያሴስል፡ ትምህርት፡ ወዘየዓቅብሰ፡ ተግሣፀ፡ ይከብር።
Misfortune pursues sinners, but prosperity rewards the righteous.
13:22
ט֗וֹב יַנְחִ֥יל בְּנֵֽי־בָנִ֑ים וְצָפ֥וּן לַ֝צַּדִּ֗יק חֵ֣יל חוֹטֵֽא׃
ἀγαθὸς ἀνὴρ κληρονομήσει υἱοὺς υἱῶν θησαυρίζεται δὲ δικαίοις πλοῦτος ἀσεβὼν
Bonus reliquit haeredes filios et nepotes, et custoditur justo substantia peccatoris.
ፍትወተ፡ ኄራን፡ ያጥዒ፡ ነፍሰ፡ ወምግባረ፡ ረሲዓንሰ፡ ርኁቅ፡ እምአእምሮ።
A good man leaves an inheritance to his children’s children, but the wealth of the sinner is stored for the righteous.
13:23
רׇב־אֹ֭כֶל נִ֣יר רָאשִׁ֑ים וְיֵ֥שׁ נִ֝סְפֶּ֗ה בְּלֹ֣א מִשְׁפָּֽט׃
δίκαιοι ποιήσουσιν ἐν πλούτῳ ἔτη πολλά ἄδικοι δὲ ἀπολοῦνται συντόμως
Multi cibi in novalibus patrum, et aliis congregantur absque judicio.
ዘይደመር፡ ምስለ፡ ጠቢብ፡ ጠቢበ፡ ይከውን፡ ወዘሰ፡ ያንዘሃልል፡ ምስለ፡ ዓብዳን፡ ዐብደ፡ ይከውን።
An abundance of food is in poor people’s fields, but injustice sweeps it away.
13:24
חוֹשֵׂ֣ךְ שִׁ֭בְטוֹ שׂוֹנֵ֣א בְנ֑וֹ וְ֝אֹהֲב֗וֹ שִׁחֲר֥וֹ מוּסָֽר׃
ὃς φείδεται τῆς βακτηρίας μισεῖ τὸν υἱὸν αὐτοῦ ὁ δὲ ἀγαπῶν ἐπιμελῶς παιδεύει
Qui parcit virgae odit filium suum ; qui autem diligit illum instanter erudit.
ለእለ፡ ይኤብሱ፡ ይዴግኖሙ፡ እኩይ፡ ወለጻድቃንሰ፡ ይረክቦሙ፡ ሠናይ።
One who spares the rod hates his son, but one who loves him is careful to discipline him.
13:25
צַדִּ֗יק אֹ֭כֵֽל לְשֹׂ֣בַע נַפְשׁ֑וֹ וּבֶ֖טֶן רְשָׁעִ֣ים תֶּחְסָֽר׃
δίκαιος ἔσθων ἐμπιπλᾷ τὴν ψυχὴν αὐτοῦ ψυχαὶ δὲ ἀσεβῶν ἐνδεεῖς
Justus comedit et replet animam suam ; venter autem impiorum insaturabilis.
ኄር፡ ብእሲ፡ ይሬኢ፡ ውሉደ፡ ውሉድ፡ ወይዘገብ፡ ለጻድቃን፡ ብዕለ፡ ረሲዓን።
The righteous one eats to the satisfying of his soul, but the belly of the wicked goes hungry.
13:26———
ጻድቃን፡ ይሄልዉ፡ በብዕል፡ ዓመታተ፡ ብዙኀ፡ ወዓማፅያንሰ፡ ይትኀጐሉ፡ ፍጡነ።
The righteous one eats to the satisfying of his soul, but the belly of the wicked goes hungry.
13:27———
ዘይምሀከ፡ በትሮ፡ ጸልአ፡ ወልዶ፡ ወዘያፈቅርሰ፡ ወልዶ፡ ወትረ፡ ይጌሥፅ።
The righteous one eats to the satisfying of his soul, but the belly of the wicked goes hungry.
13:28———
ጻድቅሰ፡ እንዘ፡ ይበልዕ፡ ይመልእ፡ ነፍሶ፡ ነፍሰ፡ ረሲዓንሰ፡ ፅኑስ።
The righteous one eats to the satisfying of his soul, but the belly of the wicked goes hungry.
