Our Lord Jesus Christ, the Wisdom of the Father, descended into the abyss, and having descended was not held fast by it. Now the abyss said: 'It is not in me, for it is in heaven'; and the sea said: 'It is not with me.' This sea is the life of men, in which are the shipwrecks that concern virtue.
