ኦሞት፡ እፎ፡ ዝክርከ፡ መሪር፡ሶበ፡ ትመጽእ፡ ላዕለ፡ ብእሲ፡ እንዘ፡ ዳኅነ፡ ይነብር፡ ወይዴለው፡ በኵሉ፡ ወቦ፡ ኀይለ፡ ወፍቱሕ፡ ነፍሱ፡ ለበሊዕ።
O death, how bitter is the remembrance of you to a man that is at peace in his possessions, To the man that has nothing to distract him, and has prosperity in all things, And that still has strength to receive meat!
41:2
ὦ θάνατε καλόν σου τὸ κρίμα ἐστὶν ἀνθρώπῳ ἐπιδεομένῳ καὶ ἐλασσουμένῳ ἰσχύι ἐσχατογήρῳ καὶ περισπωμένῳ περὶ πάντων καὶ ἀπειθοῦντι καὶ ἀπολωλεκότι ὑπομονήν
viro quieto, et cujus viæ directæ sunt in omnibus, et adhuc valenti accipere cibum !
ኦሞት፡ ሠናይ፡ ኵነኔከ፡ ሶበ፡ ትመጽእ፡ ላዕለ፡ ብእሲ፡ ነዳይ፡ ዘአልቦ፡ ኀይለ፡ ላዕለ፡ ዘልህቀ፡ ወረሥአ፡ ወአልቦ፡ ወኢምንተኒ፡ ዘይክል፡ ወአልቦ፡ ዘ[የአምን]።
O death, acceptable is your sentence to a man that is needy, and that fails in strength, That is in extreme old age, and is distracted about all things, And is perverse, and has lost patience!
41:3
μὴ εὐλαβοῦ κρίμα θανάτου μνήσθητι προτέρων σου καὶ ἐσχάτων
O mors, bonum est judicium tuum homini indigenti, et qui minoratur viribus,
ኢትፍራህ፡ ኵነኔሁ፡ ለሞት፡ ተዘከሮሙ፡ ለእለ፡ እምቅድሜከ፡ ወለእለ፡ እምድኅሬከ።
Don’t be afraid of the sentence of death; Remember those who have been before you, and that come after: This is the sentence from the Lord over all flesh.
41:4
τοῦτο τὸ κρίμα παρὰ κυρίου πάσῃ σαρκί καὶ τί ἀπαναίνῃ ἐν εὐδοκίᾳ ὑψίστου εἴτε δέκα εἴτε ἑκατὸν εἴτε χίλια ἔτη οὐκ ἔστιν ἐν ᾅδου ἐλεγμὸς ζωῆς
defecto ætate, et cui de omnibus cura est, et incredibili, qui perdit patientiam !
እስመ፡ ኵነኔ፡ እግዚአብሔር፡ ውእቱ፡ ላዕለ፡ ኵሉ፡ ዘነፍስ፡ ወለምንት፡ እንከ፡ ትግእዝ፡ ፈቃዶ፡ ለእግዚአብሔር፡ እመኒ፡ ዐሠርተ፡ ምእተ፡ ዓመተ፡ ሐዩከ፡ አልብከ፡ ምስለ፡ ሞት፡ ዘለፋ፡ ሕይወትከ።
And why do you refuse, when it is the good pleasure of the Most High? Whether it be ten, or a hundred, or a thousand years, There is no inquisition of life in the grave.
41:5
τέκνα βδελυρὰ γίνεται τέκνα ἁμαρτωλῶν καὶ συναναστρεφόμενα παροικίαις ἀσεβῶν
Noli metuere judicium mortis : memento quæ ante te fuerunt, et quæ superventura sunt tibi : hoc judicium a Domino omni carni.
ውሉድ፡ ሕርቱማ[ነ]፡ ይከውኑ፡ ውሉደ፡ ኃጥኣን፡ ወይትገፈታእ፡ አብያቲሆሙ፡ ለረሲዓን።
The children of sinners are abominable children, And they frequent the dwellings of the ungodly.
41:6
τέκνων ἁμαρτωλῶν ἀπολεῖται κληρονομία καὶ μετὰ τοῦ σπέρματος αὐτῶν ἐνδελεχιεῖ ὄνειδος
Et quid superveniet tibi in beneplacito Altissimi ? sive decem, sive centum, sive mille anni :
ውሉደ፡ ኃጥኣን፡ የሀጕሉ፡ ርስቶሙ፡ ወልህቀ፡ ምስለ፡ ፍሬሆሙ፡ ኀሳሮሙ።
The inheritance of sinners’ children shall perish, And with their posterity shall be a perpetual reproach.
41:7
πατρὶ ἀσεβεῖ μέμψεται τέκνα ὅτι δῑ αὐτὸν ὀνειδισθήσονται
non est enim in inferno accusatio vitæ.
ለአብ፡ ኃጥእ፡ ያሐረትሙ፡ ውሉዱ፡ እስመ፡ በእንቲአሁ፡ የኀስሩ።
Children will complain of an ungodly father, Because they shall be reproached for his sake.
41:8
οὐαὶ ὑμῖν ἄνδρες ἀσεβεῖς οἵτινες ἐγκατελίπετε νόμον θεοῦ ὑψίστου
Filii abominationum fiunt filii peccatorum, et qui conversantur secus domos impiorum.
አሌ፡ ለክሙ፡ ለዕደው፡ ኃጥኣን፡ እለ፡ ኀደግሙ፡ ሕጎ፡ ለልዑል።
Woe to you, ungodly men, Which have forsaken the law of the Most High God!
41:9
καὶ ἐὰν γεννηθῆτε εἰς κατάραν γεννηθήσεσθε καὶ ἐὰν ἀποθάνητε εἰς κατάραν μερισθήσεσθε
Filiorum peccatorum periet hæreditas, et cum semine illorum assiduitas opprobrii.
ወእመኒ፡ ተዋለድክሙ፡ ለመርገም፡ ትወልዱ፤….።
If you⌃ be born, you⌃ shall be born to a curse; If you⌃ die, a curse shall be your portion.
41:10
πάντα ὅσα ἐκ γῆς εἰς γῆν ἀπελεύσεται οὕτως ἀσεβεῖς ἀπὸ κατάρας εἰς ἀπώλειαν
De patre impio queruntur filii, quoniam propter illum sunt in opprobrio.
ኵሉ፡ እምነ፡ ምድር፡ ተፈጥረ፡ ወውስተ፡ ምድር፡ ምግባኢሁ፡ ከማሁ፡ ኃጥኣንሂ፡ እመርገም፡ ውስተ፡ ሞት።
All things that are of the earth shall go back to the earth: So the ungodly shall go from a curse to perdition.
41:11
πένθος ἀνθρώπων ἐν σώμασιν αὐτῶν ὄνομα δὲ ἁμαρτωλῶν οὐκ ἀγαθὸν ἐξαλειφθήσεται
Væ vobis, viri impii, qui dereliquistis legem Domini Altissimi !
[ላሑ]፡ ለሰብእ፡ በሥጋሁ፡ ወስሞሙኒ፡ ለኃጥኣን፡ ይደመሰስ።
The mourning of men is about their bodies: But the name of sinners being evil shall be blotted out.
41:12
φρόντισον περὶ ὀνόματος αὐτὸ γάρ σοι διαμενεῖ ἢ χίλιοι μεγάλοι θησαυροὶ χρυσίου
Et si nati fueritis, in maledictione nascemini : et si mortui fueritis, in maledictione erit pars vestra.
ኀሊ፡ ስመ፡ ትግበር፡ ለከ፡ ውእቱ፡ ይተርፈከ፡ እምነ፡ እልፍ፡ መዛግብተ፡ ወርቅ፡ ዐበይት።
Have regard to your name; For it continueth with you longer than a thousand great treasures of gold.
41:13
ἀγαθῆς ζωῆς ἀριθμὸς ἡμερῶν καὶ ἀγαθὸν ὄνομα εἰς αἰῶνα διαμενεῖ
Omnia quæ de terra sunt in terram convertentur : sic impii a maledicto in perditionem.
ሠናይ፡ ሐይው፡ በኈልቈ፡ መዋዕሊከ፡ በትፍሥሕት፡ ይኄይስ፡ ስም፡ ሠናይ፡ እስመ፡ ውእቱ፡ ለዓለም፡ ይቀውም፡ ለከ።
A good life has its number of days; And a good name continueth forever.
41:14
παιδείαν ἐν εἰρήνῃ συντηρήσατε τέκνα σοφία δὲ κεκρυμμένη καὶ θησαυρὸς ἀφανής τίς ὠφέλεια ἐν ἀμφοτέροις
Luctus hominum in corpore ipsorum : nomen autem impiorum delebitur.
ጥበብሰ፡ በሰላም፡ ትትመሐፀን፡ ውሉዳ፡ ጥበብሰ፡ ክቡት፡ ወመዝገብ፡ ዘኢያስተረኢ፡ ምንት፡ ረባሖሙ፡ ለክልኤሆሙ።
My children, keep instruction in peace: But wisdom that is hid, and a treasure that is not seen, What profit is in them both?
41:15
κρείσσων ἄνθρωπος ἀποκρύπτων τὴν μωρίαν αὐτοῦ ἢ ἄνθρωπος ἀποκρύπτων τὴν σοφίαν αὐτοῦ
Curam habe de bono nomine : hoc enim magis permanebit tibi quam mille thesauri pretiosi et magni.
ይኄይስ፡ ብእሲ፡ ዘየኀብስ፡ እበዲሁ፡ እምነ፡ ብእሲ፡ ዘይከብት፡ ጥበቢሁ።
Better is a man that hides his foolishness Than a man that hides his wisdom.
41:16
τοιγαροῦν ἐντράπητε ἐπὶ τῷ ῥήματί μου οὐ γάρ ἐστιν πᾶσαν αἰσχύνην διαφυλάξαι καλόν καὶ οὐ πάντα πᾶσιν ἐν πίστει εὐδοκιμεῖται
Bonæ vitæ numerus dierum : bonum autem nomen permanebit in ævum.
ኅፈሩ፡ እንከ፡ ቃልየ፡(ወጥበብየ)፤ኵሉ፡ ዘየኀፍር፡ ሠናየ፡ ይትዐቀብ፡ ወአኮ፡ ኵሉ፡ ዘእሙን፡ በኵሉ፡ ይትሜከር።
Wherefore show reverence to my word: For it is not good to retain every kind of shame; And not all things are approved by all in good faith.
41:17
αἰσχύνεσθε ἀπὸ πατρὸς καὶ μητρὸς περὶ πορνείας καὶ ἀπὸ ἡγουμένου καὶ δυνάστου περὶ ψεύδους
Disciplinam in pace conservate, filii : sapientia enim abscondita, et thesaurus invisus, quæ utilitas in utrisque ?
ኀፍረት፡ ለአብ፡ ወለእም፡ እንበይነ፡ ውሉድ፡ በዝሙት፡ ኀፍረት፡ ለመልአክ፡ ወለአበይት፡ ሐሰት።
Be ashamed of whoredom before father and mother: And of a lie before a prince and a mighty man;
41:18
ἀπὸ κριτοῦ καὶ ἄρχοντος περὶ πλημμελείας καὶ ἀπὸ συναγωγῆς καὶ λαοῦ περὶ ἀνομίας
Melior est homo qui abscondit stultitiam suam, quam homo qui abscondit sapientiam suam.
ኀፍረት፡ ለመኰንን፡ ወለመስፍን፡ ወልጦ፡ ቃል፡ ኅፍረት፡ ለሕዝብ፡ ወለማኅበር፡ ስሒት፡ ኀፍረት፡ ተዓምዖ፡ ምስለ፡ ዐርክከ፡ ወምስለ፡ መዕመርከ።
Of an offence before a judge and ruler; Of iniquity before the congregation and the people; Of unjust dealing before a partner and friend;
41:19
ἀπὸ κοινωνοῦ καὶ φίλου περὶ ἀδικίας καὶ ἀπὸ τόπου οὗ παροικεῖς περὶ κλοπῆς
Verumtamen reveremini in his quæ procedunt de ore meo :
ኀፍረት፡ ለኀዳሪ፡ ሰሪቀ፡ ማኅደር፤….፤ኀፍረት፡ ተቃርቦ፡ ለበሊዐ፡ እክለ፡ ባዕድ፡ ኀፍረት፡ ሰሪቅ፡ እምንዋየ፡ ማሕፀንትከ፡ ወእምተግባረ፡ ቢጸከ።
And of theft in regard of the place where you sojourn, And in regard of the truth of God and his covenant; And of leaning with your elbow at meat; And of scurrility in the matter of giving and taking;
41:20
ἀπὸ ἀληθείας θεοῦ καὶ διαθήκης καὶ ἀπὸ πήξεως ἀγκῶνος ἐπ’ ἄρτοις
non est enim bonum omnem reverentiam observare, et non omnia omnibus bene placent in fide.
ኀፍረት፡ ተጸምሞቱ፡ ለዘ፡ ይበጽሐከ፡ ኀፍረት፡ አስተአድሞ፡ ብእሲተ፡ ባዕድ።
And of silence before those who salute you; And of looking upon a woman that is a harlot;
41:21
ἀπὸ σκορακισμοῦ λήμψεως καὶ δόσεως καὶ ἀπὸ ἀσπαζομένων περὶ σιωπῆς
Erubescite a patre et a matre de fornicatione : et a præsidente et a potente de mendacio :
ኀፍረት፡ ተዐውሮቱ፡ ለቢጽከ፡ በምንዳቤሁ፡ ኀፍረት፡ ተሰቊቆ፡ ንዋየ፡ ባዕድ፡ ኀፍረት፡ ተናግሮ፡ ብእሲተ፡ ባዕድ፡ ወኢትትጓሕለው፡ ላቲ።
And of turning away your face from a kinsman; Of taking away a portion or a gift; And of gazing upon a woman that has a husband;
41:22
ἀπὸ ὁράσεως γυναικὸς ἑταίρας καὶ ἀπὸ ἀποστροφῆς προσώπου συγγενοῦς
a principe et a judice de delicto : a synagoga et plebe de iniquitate :
ወኢትኂጣ፡ ለወለታ፡ ወኢትቅረብ፡ ኀበ፡ ምስካባ፡ ኀፍረት፡ ዘርክዮቱ፡ ለዐርክከ፡ እምድኅረ፡ ጸገወከ፡ ኀፍረት፡ አውፅኦ፡ ነገር፡ ዘሰማዕከ፡ ኀፍረት፡ ከሢተ፡ ምክረ፡ ዐርክከ።
Of being over busy with his maid; and come not near her bed; Of upbraiding speeches before friends; And after you have given, upbraid not;
41:23
ἀπὸ ἀφαιρέσεως μερίδος καὶ δόσεως καὶ ἀπὸ κατανοήσεως γυναικὸς ὑπάνδρου
a socio et amico de injustitia, et de loco in quo habitas :
ወዘንተ፡ ለእመ፡ ተዐቀብከ፡ አማን፡ ኀፋረ፡ ትከውን፡ ወትረክብ፡ በኀበ፡ ኵሉ፡ ሰብእ፡ ሞገሰ።
Of repeating and speaking what you have heard; And of revealing of secrets.
41:24
ἀπὸ περιεργίας παιδίσκης αὐτοῦ καὶ μὴ ἐπιστῇς ἐπὶ τὴν κοίτην αὐτῆς
de furto, de veritate Dei, et testamento : de discubitu in panibus, et ab obfuscatione dati et accepti :
—
So shall you be truly shamefast, And find favor in the sight of every man.
41:25
ἀπὸ φίλων περὶ λόγων ὀνειδισμοῦ καὶ μετὰ τὸ δοῦναι μὴ ὀνείδιζε
a salutantibus de silentio, a respectu mulieris fornicariæ, et ab aversione vultus cognati.
—
Of friends, be ashamed of words of reproach, and after you have given, do not reproach.
41:26
ἀπὸ δευτερώσεως καὶ λόγου ἀκοῆς καὶ ἀπὸ καλύψεως λόγων κρυφίων
Ne avertas faciem a proximo tuo, et ab auferendo partem et non restituendo.

Of repeating and of a word heard, and of disclosing hidden words.
41:27
καὶ ἔσῃ αἰσχυντηρὸς ἀληθινῶς καὶ εὑρίσκων χάριν ἔναντι παντὸς ἀνθρώπου
Ne respicias mulierem alieni viri, et ne scruteris ancillam ejus, neque steteris ad lectum ejus.

And so you shall be truly modest, and shall find favour before every man.
