ዐቢይ፡ ትሕዝብት፡ ፍጥረቱ፡ ለእጓለ፡ እመሕያው፡ ወክቡድ፡ ጾር፡ ላዕለ፡ ውሉደ፡ አዳም፡ እምከመ፡ ይወፅኡ፡ እምከርሠ፡ እሞሙ፡ እስከ፡ አመ፡ ይትቀበሩ፡ ውስተ፡ እመ፡ ኵሉ።
Great travail is created for every man, And a heavy yoke is upon the sons of Adam, From the day of their coming forth from their mother’s womb, Until the day for their burial in the mother of all things.
40:2
τοὺς διαλογισμοὺς αὐτῶν καὶ φόβον καρδίας ἐπίνοια προσδοκίας ἡμέρα τελευτῆς
Cogitationes eorum, et timores cordis, adinventio exspectationis, et dies finitionis,
ድንጋጼ፡ ይእቲ፡ ወፍርሀተ፡ ልብ፡ ትሕዝብታ፡ ለእለተ፡ ሞት፡ ላዕለ፡ ኵሉ፡ እጓለ፡ እመሕያው።
The expectation of things to come, and the day of death, Trouble their thoughts, and cause fear of heart;
40:3
ἀπὸ καθημένου ἐπὶ θρόνου ἐνδόξου καὶ ἕως τεταπεινωμένου ἐν γῇ καὶ σποδῷ
a residente super sedem gloriosam, usque ad humiliatum in terra et cinere :
እምነ፡ ዘይነብር፡ ላዕለ፡ መንበረ፡ መንግሥት፡ እስከ፡ ነዳይ፡ ዘይሰክብ፡ ውስተ፡ መሬት፡ ወሐመድ።
From him that sits on a throne of glory, Even to him that is humbled in earth and ashes;
40:4
ἀπὸ φοροῦντος ὑακίνθινον καὶ στέφανον καὶ ἕως περιβαλλομένου ὠμόλινον θυμὸς καὶ ζῆλος καὶ ταραχὴ καὶ σάλος καὶ φόβος θανάτου καὶ μηνίαμα καὶ ἔρις
ab eo qui utitur hyacintho et portat coronam, usque ad eum qui operitur lino crudo : furor, zelus, tumultus, fluctuatio, et timor mortis, iracundia perseverans, et contentio :

From him that wears purple and a crown, Even to him that is clothed with a hempen frock.
40:5
καὶ ἐν καιρῷ ἀναπαύσεως ἐπὶ κοίτης ὕπνος νυκτὸς ἀλλοιοῖ γνῶσιν αὐτοῦ
et in tempore refectionis in cubili, somnus noctis immutat scientiam ejus.
መዐት፡ ወቅንአት፡ ወጋእዝ፡ ወሁከት፡ ወፍርሀተ፡ ሞት፡ ወቀሐው፡ ወሐኔት፡ ጊዜ፡ ይሰክብ፡ ውስተ፡ ምስካቢሁ፡ ይዌልጥ፡ ኅሊናሁ፡ ንዋመ፡ ሌሊት።
There is wrath, and jealousy, and trouble, and disquiet, And fear of death, and anger, and strife; And in the time of rest upon his bed His night sleep does change his knowledge.
40:6
ὀλίγον ὡς οὐδὲν ἐν ἀναπαύσει καὶ ἀπ’ ἐκείνου ἐν ὕπνοις ὡς ἐν ἡμέρᾳ σκοπιᾶς τεθορυβημένος ἐν ὁράσει καρδίας αὐτοῦ ὡς ἐκπεφευγὼς ἀπὸ προσώπου πολέμου
Modicum tamquam nihil in requie, et ab eo in somnis, quasi in die respectus.
ኅዳጥኒ፡ ወኢከመ፡ ምንት፡ ውእቱ፡ ለዕረፍት፡ ወበንዋሙ፡ ይትዐወቆ፡ ወይረክቦ፡ ከመ፡ እንግልጋ፡ ለምዕር፡ ወያወላውላ፡ ለምክረ፡ ልቡ፡ ከመ፡ ዘይነትዕ፡ በውስተ፡ ቀትል።
A little or nothing is his resting, And afterward in his sleep, as in a day of keeping watch, He is troubled in the vision of his heart, As one that has escaped from the front of battle.
40:7
ἐν καιρῷ χρείας αὐτοῦ ἐξηγέρθη καὶ ἀποθαυμάζων εἰς οὐδένα φόβον
Conturbatus est in visu cordis sui, tamquam qui evaserit in die belli : in tempore salutis suæ exsurrexit, et admirans ad nullum timorem :
ወዘሰ፡ ይገይስ፡ ያመሥጥ፡ በዕለቱ፡ ለሊሁ፡[ያነክራ]፡ለፍርሀቱ።
In the very time of his deliverance he awakens, And marvels that the fear is nothing.
40:8
μετὰ πάσης σαρκὸς ἀπὸ ἀνθρώπου ἕως κτήνους καὶ ἐπὶ ἁμαρτωλῶν ἑπταπλάσια πρὸς ταῦτα
cum omni carne, ab homine usque ad pecus, et super peccatores septuplum.
ወዝ፡ ምስለ፡ ኵሉ፡ ነፍሰ፡ እጓለ፡ እመሕያው፡ እስከ፡ እንስሳ፡ ዘላዕለ፡ ኃጥኣን፡ ይብእስ፡ ምስብዒተ፡ ዝንቱ፡ ኵሉ።
It is thus with all flesh, from man to beast, And upon sinners sevenfold more.
40:9
θάνατος καὶ αἷμα καὶ ἔρις καὶ ῥομφαία ἐπαγωγαί λιμὸς καὶ σύντριμμα καὶ μάστιξ
Ad hæc mors, sanguis, contentio, et rhomphæa, oppressiones, fames, et contritio, et flagella :
ቀትል፡ ወትዝኅርት፡ ወብድብድ፡ ወኲናት፡ ረኃብ፡ ወቊስለ፡ ልብ፡ ወመቅሠፍት።
Death, and bloodshed, and strife, and sword, Calamities, famine, tribulation, and the scourge;
40:10
ἐπὶ τοὺς ἀνόμους ἐκτίσθη ταῦτα πάντα καὶ δῑ αὐτοὺς ἐγένετο ὁ κατακλυσμός
super iniquos creata sunt hæc omnia : et propter illos factus est cataclysmus.
ዝንቱ፡ ኵሉ፡ ተፈጥረ፡ ላዕለ፡ ኃጥኣን፡ ወእንበይነ፡ ዚአሆሙ፡ መጽአ፡ ማየ፡ አይኅ።
All these things were created for the wicked, And because of them came the flood.
40:11
πάντα ὅσα ἀπὸ γῆς εἰς γῆν ἀναστρέφει καὶ ἀπὸ ὑδάτων εἰς θάλασσαν ἀνακάμπτει
Omnia quæ de terra sunt in terram convertentur, et omnes aquæ in mare revertentur.
ኵሉ፡ እምነ፡ ምድር፡ ወኵሉ፡ ውስተ፡ ምድር፡ ወአፍላግኒ፡ ኵሉ፡ ውስተ፡ ባሕር፡ ይገብእ፡ ማዩ።
All things that are of the earth turn to the earth again: And all things that are of the waters return into the sea.
40:12
πᾶν δῶρον καὶ ἀδικία ἐξαλειφθήσεται καὶ πίστις εἰς τὸν αἰῶνα στήσεται
Omne munus et iniquitas delebitur, et fides in sæculum stabit.
ወኵሉ፡[ሕልያን፡]ወዐመፃ፡ ትደመሰስ፡ ወሃይማኖትሰ፡ ለዓለም፡ ትቀውም።
All bribery and injustice shall be blotted out; And good faith shall stand forever.
40:13
χρήματα ἀδίκων ὡς ποταμὸς ξηρανθήσεται καὶ ὡς βροντὴ μεγάλη ἐν ὑετῷ ἐξηχήσει
Substantiæ injustorum sicut fluvius siccabuntur, et sicut tonitruum magnum in pluvia personabunt.
ንዋየ፡ ዐመፃ፡ ከመ፡ ውሒዝ፡ ይየብስ፡ ወይደምፅ፡ ከመ፡ ዐቢይ፡ ፀዓዕ፡ ሶበ፡ ይዘንም።
The goods of the unjust shall be dried up like a river, And like a great thunder in rain shall go off in noise.
40:14
ἐν τῷ ἀνοῖξαι αὐτὸν χεῖρας εὐφρανθήσεται οὕτως οἱ παραβαίνοντες εἰς συντέλειαν ἐκλείψουσιν
In aperiendo manus suas lætabitur : sic prævaricatores in consummatione tabescent.
ወውእቱሰ፡ እምከመ፡ ሰፍሐ፡ እዴሁ፡ ያስተፌሥሕ፡ ወእለሰ፡ የዐልውዎ፡ የኀልቁ፡ ወይጠፍኡ።
In opening his hands a man shall be made glad: So shall transgressors utterly fail.
40:15
ἔκγονα ἀσεβῶν οὐ πληθυνεῖ κλάδους καὶ ῥίζαι ἀκάθαρτοι ἐπ’ ἀκροτόμου πέτρας
Nepotes impiorum non multiplicabunt ramos : et radices immundæ super cacumen petræ sonant.
ውሉደ፡ ኃጥኣን፡ ኢይትባዝኁ፡ አዕጹቂሆሙ፡ ወሥርዎሙ፡ ለርኩሳን፡ ከመ፡ ዘውስተ፡ ኰኵሕ፡ ልሙጽ።
The children of the ungodly shall not put forth many branches; And are as unclean roots upon a sheer rock.
40:16
ἄχι ἐπὶ παντὸς ὕδατος καὶ χείλους ποταμοῦ πρὸ παντὸς χόρτου ἐκτιλήσεται
Super omnem aquam viriditas, et ad oram fluminis ante omne fœnum evelletur.
ወይደምፅ፡ በላዕለ፡ ኵሉ፡ ማይ፡ ወበጽንፈ፡ ውሒዝ፡ ወይቀውም፡ ተምሒዎ፡ እምነ፡ ኵሉ፡ ሣዕር።
The sedge that grows upon every water and bank of a river Shall be plucked up before all grass.
40:17
χάρις ὡς παράδεισος ἐν εὐλογίαις καὶ ἐλεημοσύνη εἰς τὸν αἰῶνα διαμενεῖ
Gratia sicut paradisus in benedictionibus, et misericordia in sæculum permanet.
ወጸጋሁሰ፡ ከመ፡ ገነተ፡ እግዚአብሔር፡ በበረከት፡ ወምጽዋትኒ፡ ለዓለም፡ ይቀውም።
Bounty is as a garden of blessings, And almsgiving endures forever.
40:18
ζωὴ αὐτάρκους καὶ ἐργάτου γλυκανθήσεται καὶ ὑπὲρ ἀμφότερα ὁ εὑρίσκων θησαυρόν
Vita sibi sufficientis operarii condulcabitur, et in ea invenies thesaurum.
ሕይወቱ፡ ለዘይዴለው፡ ዘገብረ፡ ይጥዕሞ፡ ወእምነ፡ ክልኤሆሙ፡ ረኪበ፡ መድፍን።
The life of one that labores, and is contented, shall be made sweet; And he that finds a treasure is above both.
40:19
τέκνα καὶ οἰκοδομὴ πόλεως στηρίζουσιν ὄνομα καὶ ὑπὲρ ἀμφότερα γυνὴ ἄμωμος λογίζεται
Filii et ædificatio civitatis confirmabit nomen : et super hæc mulier immaculata computabitur.
ውሉድኒ፡ ወሕንጻ፡ ሀገር፡ ያዐብዩ፡ ስመ፡ ወእምነ፡ ክልኤሆሙ፡ ብእሲት፡ እንሰ፡ ሠናይ፡ ልባ።
Children and the building of a city establish a man’s name; And a blameless wife is counted above both.
40:20
οἶνος καὶ μουσικὰ εὐφραίνουσιν καρδίαν καὶ ὑπὲρ ἀμφότερα ἀγάπησις σοφίας
Vinum et musica lætificant cor : et super utraque dilectio sapientiæ.
ወይን፡ ወማሕሌት፡ ያስተፌሥሕ፡ ልበ፡ ወእምነ፡ ክልኤሆሙ፡ አፍቅሮታ፡ ለጥበብ።
Wine and music rejoice the heart; And the love of wisdom is above both.
40:21
αὐλὸς καὶ ψαλτήριον ἡδύνουσιν μέλη καὶ ὑπὲρ ἀμφότερα γλῶσσα ἡδεῖα
Tibiæ et psalterium suavem faciunt melodiam : et super utraque lingua suavis.
መሰንቆ፡ ወመዝሙር፡ ይሔውዛ፡ ለነፍስ፡ ወእምነ፡ ክልኤሆሙ፡ ልሳን፡ ጥዑም።
The pipe and the lute make pleasant melody; And a pleasant tongue is above both.
40:22
χάριν καὶ κάλλος ἐπιθυμήσει ὀφθαλμὸς καὶ ὑπὲρ ἀμφότερα χλόην σπόρου
Gratiam et speciem desiderabit oculus tuus : et super hæc virides sationes.
ሥን፡ ወላሕይ፡ ይኤድማ፡ ለዐይን፡ ወእምነ፡ ክልኤሆሙ፡ ሐመልማለ፡ ዘርእ።
Your eye shall desire grace and beauty; And above both the green blade of corn.
40:23
φίλος καὶ ἑταῖρος εἰς καιρὸν ἀπαντῶντες καὶ ὑπὲρ ἀμφότερα γυνὴ μετὰ ἀνδρός
Amicus et sodalis in tempore convenientes, et super utrosque mulier cum viro.
ዐርክ፡ ወማኅፈር፡ ይበቊዑ፡ በመዋዕሊሆሙ፡ ወእምነ፡ ክልኤሆሙ፡ ብእሲት፡ ኄርት፡ ለምታ።
A friend and a companion never meet amiss; And a wife with her husband is above both.
40:24
ἀδελφοὶ καὶ βοήθεια εἰς καιρὸν θλίψεως καὶ ὑπὲρ ἀμφότερα ἐλεημοσύνη ῥύσεται
Fratres in adjutorium in tempore tribulationis : et super eos misericordia liberabit.
አኀውኒ፡ ወረድኤትኒ፡ ለዕለተ፡ ምንዳቤ፡ ወእምነ፡ ክልኤሆሙ፡ ምጽዋት፡ ትኄይስ፡ አድኅኖ።
Brethren and succour are for a time of affliction; And almsgiving is a deliverer above both.
40:25
χρυσίον καὶ ἀργύριον ἐπιστήσουσιν πόδα καὶ ὑπὲρ ἀμφότερα βουλὴ εὐδοκιμεῖται
Aurum et argentum est constitutio pedum : et super utrumque consilium beneplacitum.
ወርቅ፡ ወብሩር፡ ያጸንዑ፡ ሀገረ፡ ወእምነ፡ ክልኤሆሙ፡ ምክር፡ ሠናይት።
Gold and silver will make the foot stand sure; And counsel is esteemed above them both.
40:26
χρήματα καὶ ἰσχὺς ἀνυψώσουσιν καρδίαν καὶ ὑπὲρ ἀμφότερα φόβος κυρίου οὐκ ἔστιν ἐν φόβῳ κυρίου ἐλάττωσις καὶ οὐκ ἔστιν ἐπιζητῆσαι ἐν αὐτῷ βοήθειαν
Facultates et virtutes exaltant cor, et super hæc timor Domini.
ብዕል፡ ወንዋይ፡ ያስተፌሥሑ፡ ልበ፡ ወእምነ፡ ክልኤሆሙ፡ ፈሪሀ፡ እግዚአብሔር። ፈሪሀ፡ እግዚአብሔር፡ አልባቲ፡ ዘታኀጥእ፡ ወኢትፈቅድ፡ ላቲ፡ ረድኤተ።
Riches and strength will lift up the heart; And the fear of the Lord is above both: There is nothing lacking in the fear of the Lord, And there is no need to seek help therein.
40:27
φόβος κυρίου ὡς παράδεισος εὐλογίας καὶ ὑπὲρ πᾶσαν δόξαν ἐκάλυψεν αὐτόν
Non est in timore Domini minoratio : et non est in eo inquirere adjutorium.
ፈሪሀ፡ እግዚአብሔር፡ ከመ፡ ገነተ፡ እግዚአብሔር፡ በረከታ፡ ወኵሉ፡ ክብር፡ ወትፍሥሕት፡ ውስቴታ።
The fear of the Lord is as a garden of blessing, And covers a man above all glory.
40:28
τέκνον ζωὴν ἐπαιτήσεως μὴ βιώσῃς κρεῖσσον ἀποθανεῖν ἢ ἐπαιτεῖν
Timor Domini sicut paradisus benedictionis, et super omnem gloriam operuerunt illum.
ወልድየ፡ በሕይወትከ፡ ኢታፍቅራ፡ ለስኢል፡ ይኄይስ፡ መዊት፡ እምነ፡ ሲኦል።
My son, lead not a beggar’s life; Better it is to die than to beg.
40:29
ἀνὴρ βλέπων εἰς τράπεζαν ἀλλοτρίαν οὐκ ἔστιν αὐτοῦ ὁ βίος ἐν λογισμῷ ζωῆς ἀλισγήσει ψυχὴν αὐτοῦ ἐν ἐδέσμασιν ἀλλοτρίοις ἀνὴρ δὲ ἐπιστήμων καὶ πεπαιδευμένος φυλάξεται
Fili, in tempore vitæ tuæ ne indigeas : melius est enim mori quam indigere.
ብእሲ፡ ዘማእደ፡ ባዕድ፡ ይጸንሕ፡ ወይሴፈው፡ ንብረቱ፡ ከመ፡ ዘኢኮነ፡ ሕያወ፡ ዘይፈቱ፡ እክለ፡ ባዕድ፡ ወብእሲሰ፡ ጠቢብ፡ ዘተገሠጸ፡ ይትዐቀብ።
A man that looks to the table of another, His life is not to be counted for a life; He will pollute his soul with another man’s meats: But a man wise and well-instructed will beware thereof.
40:30
ἐν στόματι ἀναιδοῦς γλυκανθήσεται ἐπαίτησις καὶ ἐν κοιλίᾳ αὐτοῦ πῦρ καήσεται
Vir respiciens in mensam alienam, non est vita ejus in cogitatione victus : alit enim animam suam cibis alienis :
ጥዑም፡ ሲኦል፡ ውስተ፡ አፈ፡ ዘኢየኀፍር፡ ወውስተ፡ ከርሡሰ፡ እሳት፡ ትነድድ።
In the mouth of the shameless begging will be sweet; And in his belly a fire shall be kindled.
