19:1
טֽוֹב־רָ֭שׁ הוֹלֵ֣ךְ בְּתֻמּ֑וֹ מֵעִקֵּ֥שׁ שְׂ֝פָתָ֗יו וְה֣וּא כְסִֽיל׃
—
Melior est pauper qui ambulat in simplicitate sua quam dives torquens labia sua, et insipiens.
ዕበዱ፡ ለብእሲ፡ ያጠፍእ፡ ፍናዊሁ፡ ወለእግዚአብሔር፡ ያስተጋፍዖ፡ በልቡ።
Better is the poor who walks in his integrity than he who is perverse in his lips and is a fool.
19:2
גַּ֤ם בְּלֹא־דַ֣עַת נֶ֣פֶשׁ לֹא־ט֑וֹב וְאָ֖ץ בְּרַגְלַ֣יִם חוֹטֵֽא׃
—
Ubi non est scientia animae, non est bonum, et qui festinus est pedibus offendet.
ባዕል፡ ይዌስክ፡ አዕርክተ፡ ብዙኀነ፡ ወነዳይሰ፡ ኪያሁኒ፡ ዘቦ፡ የኃጥእ።
It isn’t good to have zeal without knowledge, nor to be hasty with one’s feet and miss the way.
19:3
אִוֶּ֣לֶת אָ֭דָם תְּסַלֵּ֣ף דַּרְכּ֑וֹ וְעַל־יְ֝הֹוָ֗ה יִזְעַ֥ף לִבּֽוֹ׃
ἀφροσύνη ἀνδρὸς λυμαίνεται τὰς ὁδοὺς αὐτοῦ τὸν δὲ θεὸν αἰτιᾶται τῇ καρδίᾳ αὐτοῦ
Stultitia hominis supplantat gressus ejus, et contra Deum fervet animo suo.
ሰማዕተ፡ ሐሰት፡ ርኩስ፡ ውእቱ፡ ወዘየኃሥሥ፡ በግፍዕ፡ ኢያመስጥ።
The foolishness of man subverts his way; his heart rages against Yahweh.
19:4
ה֗וֹן יֹ֭סִיף רֵעִ֣ים רַבִּ֑ים וְ֝דָ֗ל מֵרֵעֵ֥הוּ יִפָּרֵֽד׃
πλοῦτος προστίθησιν φίλους πολλούς ὁ δὲ πτωχὸς καὶ ἀπὸ τοῦ ὑπάρχοντος φίλου λείπεται
Divitiae addunt amicos plurimos ; a paupere autem et hi quos habuit separantur.
ወብዙኃን፡ ይትለአኩ፡ በቅድመ፡ ነገሥት፡ ወባሕቱ፡ ጽድቁ፡ ወሀብቱ፡ ለብእሲ፡ እምኀበ፡ እግዚአብሔር።
Wealth adds many friends, but the poor is separated from his friend.
19:5
עֵ֣ד שְׁ֭קָרִים לֹ֣א יִנָּקֶ֑ה וְיָפִ֥יחַ כְּ֝זָבִ֗ים לֹ֣א יִמָּלֵֽט׃
μάρτυς ψευδὴς οὐκ ἀτιμώρητος ἔσται ὁ δὲ ἐγκαλῶν ἀδίκως οὐ διαφεύξεται
Testis falsus non erit impunitus, et qui mendacia loquitur non effugiet.
ወኵሉ፡ እኩይ፡ ይከውን፡ ዝንጓጔ፡ ብእሲ፡ ኵሉ፡ ዘአኃወ፡ ነዳያነ፡ ይጸልእ፡ እምታአኅኃሁ፡ ርኁቅ፡ ውእቱ።
A false witness shall not be unpunished. He who pours out lies shall not go free.
19:6
רַ֭בִּים יְחַלּ֣וּ פְנֵֽי־נָדִ֑יב וְכׇל־הָ֝רֵ֗עַ לְאִ֣ישׁ מַתָּֽן׃
πολλοὶ θεραπεύουσιν πρόσωπα βασιλέων πᾶς δὲ ὁ κακὸς γίνεται ὄνειδος ἀνδρί
Multi colunt personam potentis, et amici sunt dona tribuentis.
ሕሊና፡ ሠናይት፡ ለእለ፡ አጥረይዋ፡ ትቀርብ፡ ወብእሲ፡ ጠቢብ፡ ይረክባ።
Many will entreat the favor of a ruler, and everyone is a friend to a man who gives gifts.
19:7
כׇּ֥ל־אֲחֵי־רָ֨שׁ׀ שְֽׂנֵאֻ֗הוּ אַ֤ף כִּ֣י מְ֭רֵעֵהוּ רָחֲק֣וּ מִמֶּ֑נּוּ מְרַדֵּ֖ף אֲמָרִ֣ים (לא) [לוֹ־]הֵֽמָּה׃
πᾶς ὃς ἀδελφὸν πτωχὸν μισεῖ καὶ φιλίας μακρὰν ἔσται ἔννοια ἀγαθὴ τοῖς εἰδόσιν αὐτὴν ἐγγιεῖ ἀνὴρ δὲ φρόνιμος εὑρήσει αὐτήν ὁ πολλὰ κακοποιῶν τελεσιουργεῖ κακίαν ὃς δὲ ἐρεθίζει λόγους οὐ σωθήσεται
Fratres hominis pauperis oderunt eum ; insuper et amici procul recesserunt ab eo. Qui tantum verba sectatur nihil habebit ;
ዘብዙኅ፡ እከዩ፡ ይፌጽም፡ እከየ፡ ወዘያስዖዝዝ፡ ነገረ፡ ኢይድኅን።
All the relatives of the poor shun him; how much more do his friends avoid him! He pursues them with pleas, but they are gone.
19:8
קֹֽנֶה־לֵּ֭ב אֹהֵ֣ב נַפְשׁ֑וֹ שֹׁמֵ֥ר תְּ֝בוּנָ֗ה לִמְצֹא־טֽוֹב׃
ὁ κτώμενος φρόνησιν ἀγαπᾷ ἑαυτόν ὃς δὲ φυλάσσει φρόνησιν εὑρήσει ἀγαθά
qui autem possessor est mentis diligit animam suam, et custos prudentiae inveniet bona.
ዘአጥረያ፡ ለጥበብ፡ ያፈቅር፡ ነፍሶ፡ ወዘያፈቅር፡ አእምሮ፡ ይረክብ፡ ኄረ።
He who gets wisdom loves his own soul. He who keeps understanding shall find good.
19:9
עֵ֣ד שְׁ֭קָרִים לֹ֣א יִנָּקֶ֑ה וְיָפִ֖יחַ כְּזָבִ֣ים יֹאבֵֽד׃ {פ}
μάρτυς ψευδὴς οὐκ ἀτιμώρητος ἔσται ὃς δ’ ἂν ἐκκαύσῃ κακίαν ἀπολεῖται ὑπ’ αὐτῆς
Falsus testis non erit impunitus, et qui loquitur mendacia peribit.
ሰማዕተ፡ ኀሰት፡ ኢይድኅን፡ እምኵነኔ፡ ወዘያስተውዕያ፡ ለእከይ፡ ይተኃጐል፡ ባቲ።
A false witness shall not be unpunished. He who utters lies shall perish.
19:10
לֹא־נָאוֶ֣ה לִכְסִ֣יל תַּעֲנ֑וּג אַ֝֗ף כִּֽי־לְעֶ֤בֶד׀ מְשֹׁ֬ל בְּשָׂרִֽים׃
οὐ συμφέρει ἄφρονι τρυφή καὶ ἐὰν οἰκέτης ἄρξηται μεθ’ ὕβρεως δυναστεύειν
Non decent stultum deliciae, nec servum dominari principibus.
ኢይደልዎ፡ ለዐብድ፡ ተድላ፡ ወለእመ፡ ገብረ፡ ኵነኔ፡ ዘምስለ፡ ጽእለት፡ ትኄየል።
Delicate living is not appropriate for a fool, much less for a servant to have rule over princes.
19:11
שֵׂ֣כֶל אָ֭דָם הֶאֱרִ֣יךְ אַפּ֑וֹ וְ֝תִפְאַרְתּ֗וֹ עֲבֹ֣ר עַל־פָּֽשַׁע׃
ἐλεήμων ἀνὴρ μακροθυμεῖ τὸ δὲ καύχημα αὐτοῦ ἐπέρχεται παρανόμοις
Doctrina viri per patientiam noscitur, et gloria ejus est iniqua praetergredi.
ወሐሪ፡ ብእሲ፡ ይትዔገሥ፡ ወትምክሕተ፡ ምሕረቱ፡ ይትቃወሞሙ፡ ለኃጥአን።
The discretion of a man makes him slow to anger. It is his glory to overlook an offense.
19:12
נַ֣הַם כַּ֭כְּפִיר זַ֣עַף מֶ֑לֶךְ וּכְטַ֖ל עַל־עֵ֣שֶׂב רְצוֹנֽוֹ׃
βασιλέως ἀπειλὴ ὁμοία βρυγμῷ λέοντος ὥσπερ δὲ δρόσος ἐπὶ χόρτῳ οὕτως τὸ ἱλαρὸν αὐτοῦ
Sicut fremitus leonis, ita et regis ira, et sicut ros super herbam, ita et hilaritas ejus.
መዓተ፡ ንጉሥ፡ ከመ፡ ጣሕረ፡ አንበሳ፡ ወከመ፡ ጠል፡ ዘይወርድ፡ ዲበ፡ ሣዕር፡ ከማሁ፡ ውእቱ፡ ውኅዋኄሁ።
The king’s wrath is like the roaring of a lion, but his favor is like dew on the grass.
19:13
הַוֺּ֣ת לְ֭אָבִיו בֵּ֣ן כְּסִ֑יל וְדֶ֥לֶף טֹ֝רֵ֗ד מִדְיְנֵ֥י אִשָּֽׁה׃
αἰσχύνη πατρὶ υἱὸς ἄφρων καὶ οὐχ ἁγναὶ εὐχαὶ ἀπὸ μισθώματος ἑταίρας
Dolor patris filius stultus, et tecta jugiter perstillantia litigiosa mulier.
ኃፍረት፡ ለአብ፡ ዐብድ፡ ወልድ፡ ወኢኮነ፡ ንጹሐ፡ ጸሎት፡ ምስለ፡ ዐስበ፡ ከልአት።
A foolish son is the calamity of his father. A wife’s quarrels are a continual dripping.
19:14
בַּ֣יִת וָ֭הוֹן נַחֲלַ֣ת אָב֑וֹת וּ֝מֵיְהֹוָ֗ה אִשָּׁ֥ה מַשְׂכָּֽלֶת׃
οἶκον καὶ ὕπαρξιν μερίζουσιν πατέρες παισίν παρὰ δὲ θεοῦ ἁρμόζεται γυνὴ ἀνδρί
Domus et divitiae dantur a parentibus ; a Domino autem proprie uxor prudens.
አብያተ፡ ወንዋየ፡ ይከፍሉ፡ አበው፡ ለውሉዶሙ፡ ወባሕቱ፡ በኀበ፡ እግዚአብሔር፡ ትትዋደዶ፡ ብእሲት፡ ለብእሲሃ።
House and riches are an inheritance from fathers, but a prudent wife is from Yahweh.
19:15
עַ֭צְלָה תַּפִּ֣יל תַּרְדֵּמָ֑ה וְנֶ֖פֶשׁ רְמִיָּ֣ה תִרְעָֽב׃
δειλία κατέχει ἀνδρογύναιον ψυχὴ δὲ ἀεργοῦ πεινάσει
Pigredo immittit soporem, et anima dissoluta esuriet.
ምምዓ፡ ይእኅዞ፡ ለብእሲ፡ ፅኑስ፡ ወነፍስ፡ ዘኢይትቀነይ፡ ይርኅብ።
Slothfulness casts into a deep sleep. The idle soul shall suffer hunger.
19:16
שֹׁמֵ֣ר מִ֭צְוָה שֹׁמֵ֣ר נַפְשׁ֑וֹ בּוֹזֵ֖ה דְרָכָ֣יו (יומת) [יָמֽוּת]׃
ὃς φυλάσσει ἐντολήν τηρεῖ τὴν ἑαυτοῦ ψυχήν ὁ δὲ καταφρονῶν τῶν ἑαυτοῦ ὁδῶν ἀπολεῖται
Qui custodit mandatum custodit animam suam ; qui autem negligit viam suam mortificabitur.
ዘየዓቅብ፡ ተግሣፀ፡ ወትእዛዘ፡ ይትመኀፀን፡ ነፍሶ፡ ወዘያሰትትሰ፡ ፍናዊሁ፡ ይትኃጐል።
He who keeps the commandment keeps his soul, but he who is contemptuous in his ways shall die.
19:17
מַלְוֵ֣ה יְ֭הֹוָה ח֣וֹנֵֽן דָּ֑ל וּ֝גְמֻל֗וֹ יְשַׁלֶּם־לֽוֹ׃
δανίζει θεῷ ὁ ἐλεῶν πτωχόν κατὰ δὲ τὸ δόμα αὐτοῦ ἀνταποδώσει αὐτῷ
Foeneratur Domino qui miseretur pauperis, et vicissitudinem suam reddet ei.
ይሌቅሖ፡ ለእግዚአብሔር፡ ዘይምሕር፡ ነዳየ፡ ወበከመ፡ ሀብቱ፡ ይፈድዮ።
He who has pity on the poor lends to Yahweh; he will reward him.
19:18
יַסֵּ֣ר בִּ֭נְךָ כִּֽי־יֵ֣שׁ תִּקְוָ֑ה וְאֶל־הֲ֝מִית֗וֹ אַל־תִּשָּׂ֥א נַפְשֶֽׁךָ׃
παίδευε υἱόν σου οὕτως γὰρ ἔσται εὔελπις εἰς δὲ ὕβριν μὴ ἐπαίρου τῇ ψυχῇ σου
Erudi filium tuum ; ne desperes : ad interfectionem autem ejus ne ponas animam tuam.
ዝብጥ፡ ወልደከ፡ ከመ፡ ይኩንከ፡ ለተስፋ፡ ወለተጽእሎሰ፡ ኢታልዕል፡ እዴከ።
Discipline your son, for there is hope; don’t be a willing party to his death.
19:19
(גרל) [גְּֽדׇל־]חֵ֭מָה נֹ֣שֵׂא עֹ֑נֶשׁ כִּ֥י אִם־תַּ֝צִּ֗יל וְע֣וֹד תּוֹסִֽף׃
κακόφρων ἀνὴρ πολλὰ ζημιωθήσεται ἐὰν δὲ λοιμεύηται καὶ τὴν ψυχὴν αὐτοῦ προσθήσει
Qui impatiens est sustinebit damnum, et cum rapuerit, aliud apponet.
ብእሲ፡ እኩይ፡ ብዙኀ፡ ያኃጒል፡ ወእመሰ፡ ዓቢይ፡ ሕቡል፡ ነፍሶሂ፡ ይዌስክ።
A hot-tempered man must pay the penalty, for if you rescue him, you must do it again.
19:20
שְׁמַ֣ע עֵ֭צָה וְקַבֵּ֣ל מוּסָ֑ר לְ֝מַ֗עַן תֶּחְכַּ֥ם בְּאַחֲרִיתֶֽךָ׃
ἄκουε υἱέ παιδείαν πατρός σου ἵνα σοφὸς γένῃ ἐπ’ ἐσχάτων σου
Audi consilium, et suscipe disciplinam, ut sis sapiens in novissimis tuis.
ስማዕ፡ ወልድየ፡ ተግሣፀ፡ አቡከ፡ ከመ፡ ትኩን፡ ጠቢበ፡ በደኃሪትከ።
Listen to counsel and receive instruction, that you may be wise in your latter end.
19:21
רַבּ֣וֹת מַחֲשָׁב֣וֹת בְּלֶב־אִ֑ישׁ וַעֲצַ֥ת יְ֝הֹוָ֗ה הִ֣יא תָקֽוּם׃
πολλοὶ λογισμοὶ ἐν καρδίᾳ ἀνδρός ἡ δὲ βουλὴ τοῦ κυρίου εἰς τὸν αἰῶνα μένει
Multae cogitationes in corde viri ; voluntas autem Domini permanebit.
ብዙኅ፡ ሕሊና፡ ውስተ፡ ልበ፡ ብእሲ፡ መምክር፡ ወምክሩሰ፡ ለእግዚአብሔር፡ ይሄሉ፡ ለዓለም።
There are many plans in a man’s heart, but Yahweh’s counsel will prevail.
19:22
תַּאֲוַ֣ת אָדָ֣ם חַסְדּ֑וֹ וְטֽוֹב־רָ֝֗שׁ מֵאִ֥ישׁ כָּזָֽב׃
καρπὸς ἀνδρὶ ἐλεημοσύνη κρείσσων δὲ πτωχὸς δίκαιος ἢ πλούσιος ψεύστης
Homo indigens misericors est, et melior est pauper quam vir mendax.
ፍሬሁ፡ ለብእሲ፡ ምጽዋት፡ ይኄይስ፡ ነዳይ፡ ጻድቅ፡ እምባዕል፡ ሐሳዊ።
That which makes a man to be desired is his kindness. A poor man is better than a liar.
19:23
יִרְאַ֣ת יְהֹוָ֣ה לְחַיִּ֑ים וְשָׂבֵ֥עַ יָ֝לִ֗ין בַּל־יִפָּ֥קֶד רָֽע׃
φόβος κυρίου εἰς ζωὴν ἀνδρί ὁ δὲ ἄφοβος αὐλισθήσεται ἐν τόποις οὗ οὐκ ἐπισκοπεῖται γνῶσις
Timor Domini ad vitam, et in plenitudine commorabitur absque visitatione pessima.
ፈሪሀ፡ እግዚአብሔር፡ ሕይወተ፡ ብእሲ፡ ዘኢይፈርህሰ፡ የኃድር፡ ውስተ፡ መካን፡ ኀበ፡ ኢያስተርኢ፡ አእምሮ።
The fear of Yahweh leads to life, then contentment; he rests and will not be touched by trouble.
19:24
טָ֘מַ֤ן עָצֵ֣ל יָ֭דוֹ בַּצַּלָּ֑חַת גַּם־אֶל־פִּ֝֗יהוּ לֹ֣א יְשִׁיבֶֽנָּה׃
ὁ ἐγκρύπτων εἰς τὸν κόλπον αὐτοῦ χεῖρας ἀδίκως οὐδὲ τῷ στόματι οὐ μὴ προσαγάγῃ αὐτάς
Abscondit piger manum suam sub ascella, nec ad os suum applicat eam.
የኀብእ፡ ሀካይ፡ እዴሁ፡ ውስተ፡ ኅፅኑ፡ ወኀበ፡ አፉሁ፡ ኢያቀርብ።
The sluggard buries his hand in the dish; he will not so much as bring it to his mouth again.
19:25
לֵ֣ץ תַּ֭כֶּה וּפֶ֣תִי יַעְרִ֑ם וְהוֹכִ֥יחַ לְ֝נָב֗וֹן יָבִ֥ין דָּֽעַת׃
λοιμοῦ μαστιγουμένου ἄφρων πανουργότερος γίνεται ἐὰν δὲ ἐλέγχῃς ἄνδρα φρόνιμον νοήσει αἴσθησιν
Pestilente flagellato stultus sapientior erit ; si autem corripueris sapientem, intelliget disciplinam.
ሕቡል፡ እንዘ፡ ይትቀሠፍ፡ ዐብድ፡ ጠቢበ፡ ይከውን፡ ወእመሰ፡ ዘለፍኮ፡ ለብእሲ፡ ጠቢብ፡ ይሔሊ፡ አእምሮ።
Flog a scoffer, and the simple will learn prudence; rebuke one who has understanding, and he will gain knowledge.
19:26
מְֽשַׁדֶּד־אָ֭ב יַבְרִ֣יחַ אֵ֑ם בֵּ֝֗ן מֵבִ֥ישׁ וּמַחְפִּֽיר׃
ὁ ἀτιμάζων πατέρα καὶ ἀπωθούμενος μητέρα αὐτοῦ καταισχυνθήσεται καὶ ἐπονείδιστος ἔσται
Qui affligit patrem, et fugat matrem, ignominiosus est et infelix.
ዘያኀሥር፡ አባሁ፡ ወእሞ፡ ይትከላእ፡ ወይትኀፈር፡ ወምኑነ፡ ይከውን።
He who robs his father and drives away his mother is a son who causes shame and brings reproach.
19:27
חֲֽדַל־בְּ֭נִי לִשְׁמֹ֣עַ מוּסָ֑ר לִ֝שְׁג֗וֹת מֵאִמְרֵי־דָֽעַת׃
υἱὸς ἀπολειπόμενος φυλάξαι παιδείαν πατρὸς μελετήσει ῥήσεις κακάς
Non cesses, fili, audire doctrinam, nec ignores sermones scientiae.
ወልድ፡ ዘይትከላእ፡ እምዓቂበ፡ ትምህርተ፡ አብ፡ ይትሜሀር፡ ቃለ፡ እኩየ።
If you stop listening to instruction, my son, you will stray from the words of knowledge.
19:28
עֵ֣ד בְּ֭לִיַּעַל יָלִ֣יץ מִשְׁפָּ֑ט וּפִ֥י רְ֝שָׁעִ֗ים יְבַלַּע־אָֽוֶן׃
ὁ ἐγγυώμενος παῖδα ἄφρονα καθυβρίζει δικαίωμα στόμα δὲ ἀσεβῶν καταπίεται κρίσεις
Testis iniquus deridet judicium, et os impiorum devorat iniquitatem.
ዘይትሄበይ፡ ዐብደ፡ ወልደ፡ ያጼእል፡ ፍትሐ፡ ወለአፈረሲዐን፡ ይውኅጦ፡ እኩይ፡ ኵነኔ።
A corrupt witness mocks justice, and the mouth of the wicked gulps down iniquity.
19:29
נָכ֣וֹנוּ לַלֵּצִ֣ים שְׁפָטִ֑ים וּ֝מַהֲלֻמ֗וֹת לְגֵ֣ו כְּסִילִֽים׃
ἑτοιμάζονται ἀκολάστοις μάστιγες καὶ τιμωρίαι ὤμοις ἀφρόνων
Parata sunt derisoribus judicia, et mallei percutientes stultorum corporibus.
ወይጸንሕ፡ ሎሙ፡ መቅሠፍት፡ ለእኩያን፡ ወኵነኔ፡ ከማሁ፡ ለዐብዳን።
Penalties are prepared for scoffers, and beatings for the backs of fools.
