28:1 ⧉ ⤴︎ כִּ֤י יֵ֣שׁ לַכֶּ֣סֶף מוֹצָ֑א וּ֝מָק֗וֹם לַזָּהָ֥ב יָזֹֽקּוּ ׃
ἔστιν γὰρ ἀργυρίῳ τόπος ὅθεν γίνεται τόπος δὲ χρυσίῳ ὅθεν διηθεῖται
Habet argentum venarum suarum principia , et auro locus est in quo conflatur .
ቦ ፡ ብሔር ፡ እምኀበ ፡ ይወፅአ ፡ ብሩር ፡ ለወርቅኒ ፡ ቦ ፡ ብሔር ፡ እምኀበ ፡ የአርርዎ ።
“Surely there is a mine for silver, and a place for gold which they refine.
28:2 ⧉ ⤴︎ בַּ֭רְזֶל מֵעָפָ֣ר יֻקָּ֑ח וְ֝אֶ֗בֶן יָצ֥וּק נְחוּשָֽׁה ׃
σίδηρος μὲν γὰρ ἐκ γῆς γίνεται χαλκὸς δὲ ἴσα λίθῳ λατομεῖται
Ferrum de terra tollitur , et lapis solutus calore in aes vertitur .
ሐፂንሂ ፡ እምውስተ ፡ ምድር ፡ ይትገበር ፡ ለብርትኒ ፡ ከመ ፡ እብን ፡ ይፈጽሕዎ ።
Iron is taken out of the earth, and copper is smelted out of the ore.
28:3 ⧉ ⤴︎ קֵ֤ץ ׀ שָׂ֤ם לַחֹ֗שֶׁךְ וּֽלְכׇל ־תַּ֭כְלִית ה֣וּא חוֹקֵ֑ר אֶ֖בֶן אֹ֣פֶל וְצַלְמָֽוֶת ׃
τάξιν ἔθετο σκότει καὶ πᾶν πέρας αὐτὸς ἐξακριβάζεται λίθος σκοτία καὶ σκιὰ θανάτου
Tempus posuit tenebris , et universorum finem ipse considerat : lapidem quoque caliginis et umbram mortis .
ለጽልመትኒ ፡ አዘዘ ፡ ዕድሜሁ ፡ ወለኵሉ ፡ ውእቱ ፡ የሐትቶ ፡ እብነ ፡ ጽልመት ፡ ወጽላሎተ ፡ ሞት ።
Man sets an end to darkness, and searches out, to the furthest bound, the stones of obscurity and of thick darkness.
28:4 ⧉ ⤴︎ פָּ֤רַץ נַ֨חַל ׀ מֵֽעִם ־גָּ֗ר הַֽנִּשְׁכָּחִ֥ים מִנִּי ־רָ֑גֶל דַּ֖לּוּ מֵאֱנ֣וֹשׁ נָֽעוּ ׃
διακοπὴ χειμάρρου ἀπὸ κονίας οἱ δὲ ἐπιλανθανόμενοι ὁδὸν δικαίαν ἠσθένησαν ἐκ βροτῶν
Dividit torrens a populo peregrinante eos quos oblitus est pes egentis hominis , et invios .
ከመ ፡ ስጥቀተ ፡ ፈለግ ፡ ውስተ ፡ መሬት ፡ እለ ፡ ይረስዕዋ ፡ ለፍኖተ ፡ ጽድቅ ፡ ደክሙ ፡ በኃጢአቶሙ ።
He breaks open a shaft away from where people live. They are forgotten by the foot. They hang far from men, they swing back and forth.
28:5 ⧉ ⤴︎ אֶ֗רֶץ מִמֶּ֥נָּה יֵֽצֵא ־לָ֑חֶם וְ֝תַחְתֶּ֗יהָ נֶהְפַּ֥ךְ כְּמוֹ ־אֵֽשׁ ׃
γῆ ἐξ αὐτῆς ἐξελεύσεται ἄρτος ὑποκάτω αὐτῆς ἐστράφη ὡσεὶ πῦρ
Terra de qua oriebatur panis , in loco suo igni subversa est .
ለምድርኒ ፡ ይወፅእ ፡ እምኔሃ ፡ እክል ፡ በመትሕቴሃኒ ፡ ጠብለላ ፡ በእሳት ።
As for the earth, out of it comes bread. Underneath it is turned up as it were by fire.
28:6 ⧉ ⤴︎ מְקוֹם ־סַפִּ֥יר אֲבָנֶ֑יהָ וְעַפְרֹ֖ת זָהָ֣ב לֽוֹ ׃
τόπος σαπφείρου οἱ λίθοι αὐτῆς καὶ χῶμα χρυσίον αὐτῷ
Locus sapphiri lapides ejus , et glebae illius aurum .
ቦ ፡ ብሔር ፡ ዘአብነ ፡ ሰንፔር ፡ ወወርቃኒ ፡ ከመ ፡ መሬት ።
Sapphires come from its rocks. It has dust of gold.
28:7 ⧉ ⤴︎ נָ֭תִיב לֹא ־יְדָ֣עוֹ עָ֑יִט וְלֹ֥א שְׁ֝זָפַ֗תּוּ עֵ֣ין אַיָּֽה ׃
τρίβος οὐκ ἔγνω αὐτὴν πετεινόν καὶ οὐ παρέβλεψεν αὐτὴν ὀφθαλμὸς γυπός
Semitam ignoravit avis , nec intuitus est eam oculus vulturis .
ፍኖት ፡ ዘኢርአያ ፡ ዖፍ ፡ ወዘኢነጸራ ፡ ዓይን ፡ ንስር ።
That path no bird of prey knows, neither has the falcon’s eye seen it.
28:8 ⧉ ⤴︎ לֹֽא ־הִדְרִיכ֥וּהוּ בְנֵי ־שָׁ֑חַץ לֹֽא ־עָדָ֖ה עָלָ֣יו שָֽׁחַל ׃
οὐκ ἐπάτησαν αὐτὴν υἱοὶ ἀλαζόνων οὐ παρῆλθεν ἐπ’ αὐτῆς λέων
Non calcaverunt eam filii institorum , nec pertransivit per eam leaena .
ወኢኬድዋ ፡ ደቂቀ ፡ ዝኁራን ፡ በእግር ፡ ወኢኃለፈ ፡ አንበሳ ፡ ውስቴታ ።
The proud animals have not trodden it, nor has the fierce lion passed by there.
28:9 ⧉ ⤴︎ בַּ֭חַלָּמִישׁ שָׁלַ֣ח יָד֑וֹ הָפַ֖ךְ מִשֹּׁ֣רֶשׁ הָרִֽים ׃
ἐν ἀκροτόμῳ ἐξέτεινεν χεῖρα αὐτοῦ κατέστρεψεν δὲ ἐκ ῥιζῶν ὄρη
Ad silicem extendit manum suam : subvertit a radicibus montes .
ወአንሥአ ፡ እዴሁ ፡ በእዝኅ ፡ ወአጥፍኦሙ ፡ ለአድባር ፡ እመሠረቶሙ ፡ ወእምሥርዎሙ ።
He puts his hand on the flinty rock, and he overturns the mountains by the roots.
28:10 ⧉ ⤴︎ בַּ֭צּוּרוֹת יְאֹרִ֣ים בִּקֵּ֑עַ וְכׇל ־יְ֝קָ֗ר רָאֲתָ֥ה עֵינֽוֹ ׃
δίνας δὲ ποταμῶν ἔρρηξεν πᾶν δὲ ἔντιμον εἶδέν μου ὁ ὀφθαλμός
In petris rivos excidit , et omne pretiosum vidit oculus ejus .
ወሰጠቀ ፡ አንቅዕተ ፡ አፍላግ ፡ ወርእየ ፡ ዓይንየ ፡ ኵሎ ፡ ክቡራተ ።
He cuts out channels among the rocks. His eye sees every precious thing.
28:11 ⧉ ⤴︎ מִ֭בְּכִי נְהָר֣וֹת חִבֵּ֑שׁ וְ֝תַעֲלֻמָ֗הּ יֹ֣צִא אֽוֹר ׃ {פ}
βάθη δὲ ποταμῶν ἀνεκάλυψεν ἔδειξεν δὲ ἑαυτοῦ δύναμιν εἰς φῶς
Profunda quoque fluviorum scrutatus est , et abscondita in lucem produxit .
ወሰጠቀ ፡ ቀላያተ ፡ ዘአፍላግ ፡ ወአርአየኃይሎ ፡ በውስተ ፡ ብርሃን ።
He binds the streams that they don’t trickle. The thing that is hidden he brings out to light.
28:12 ⧉ ⤴︎ וְֽ֭הַחׇכְמָה מֵאַ֣יִן תִּמָּצֵ֑א וְאֵ֥י זֶ֝֗ה מְק֣וֹם בִּינָֽה ׃
ἡ δὲ σοφία πόθεν εὑρέθη ποῖος δὲ τόπος ἐστὶν τῆς ἐπιστήμης
Sapientia vero ubi invenitur ? et quis est locus intelligentiae ?
ወእምአይቴ ፡ ተረክበት ፡ ጥበብ ፡ ወአይቴ ፡ ብሔር ፡ ለጥበብ ።
“But where will wisdom be found? Where is the place of understanding?
28:13 ⧉ ⤴︎ לֹא ־יָדַ֣ע אֱנ֣וֹשׁ עֶרְכָּ֑הּ וְלֹ֥א תִ֝מָּצֵ֗א בְּאֶ֣רֶץ הַחַיִּֽים ׃
οὐκ οἶδεν βροτὸς ὁδὸν αὐτῆς οὐδὲ μὴ εὑρεθῇ ἐν ἀνθρώποις
Nescit homo pretium ejus , nec invenitur in terra suaviter viventium .
ወኢየአምራ ፡ መዋቲ ፡ ለፍኖታ ፡ ወኢሀለወት ፡ ኀበ ፡ እጓለ ፡ እመሕያው ።
Man doesn’t know its price, and it isn’t found in the land of the living.
28:14 ⧉ ⤴︎ תְּה֣וֹם אָ֭מַר לֹ֣א בִי ־הִ֑יא וְיָ֥ם אָ֝מַ֗ר אֵ֣ין עִמָּדִֽי ׃
ἄβυσσος εἶπεν οὐκ ἔστιν ἐν ἐμοί καὶ θάλασσα εἶπεν οὐκ ἔστιν μετ’ ἐμοῦ
Abyssus dicit : Non est in me , et mare loquitur : Non est mecum .
ቀላይኒ ፡ ትቤ ፡ ኢህለወት ፡ ኀቤየሰ ፡ ወባሕርኒ ፡ ትቤ ፡ ኢነበረት ፡ ምስሌየሰ ።
The deep says, ‘It isn’t in me.’ The sea says, ‘It isn’t with me.’
28:15 ⧉ ⤴︎ לֹא ־יֻתַּ֣ן סְג֣וֹר תַּחְתֶּ֑יהָ וְלֹ֥א יִ֝שָּׁקֵ֗ל כֶּ֣סֶף מְחִירָֽהּ ׃
οὐ δώσει συγκλεισμὸν ἀντ’ αὐτῆς καὶ οὐ σταθήσεται ἀργύριον ἀντάλλαγμα αὐτῆς
Non dabitur aurum obrizum pro ea , nec appendetur argentum in commutatione ejus .
ወአልቦ ፡ ዘተረክበ ፡ ዘክማሓ ፡ ወኢይደልዋ ፡ ብሩር ፡ ተውላጣ ።
It can’t be gotten for gold, neither will silver be weighed for its price.
28:16 ⧉ ⤴︎ לֹא ־תְ֭סֻלֶּה בְּכֶ֣תֶם אוֹפִ֑יר בְּשֹׁ֖הַם יָקָ֣ר וְסַפִּֽיר ׃
καὶ οὐ συμβασταχθήσεται χρυσίῳ Ωφιρ ἐν ὄνυχι τιμίῳ καὶ σαπφείρῳ
Non conferetur tinctis Indiae coloribus , nec lapidi sardonycho pretiosissimo vel sapphiro .
ወኢትሠየጥ ፡ በወርቀ ፡ አፌር ፡ ወኢ ፡ በባላቅ ፡ ቅድው ፡ ወበ ፡ ሰንፔር ።
It can’t be valued with the gold of Ophir, with the precious onyx, or the sapphire.
28:17 ⧉ ⤴︎ לֹא ־יַעַרְכֶ֣נָּה זָ֭הָב וּזְכוֹכִ֑ית וּתְמ֖וּרָתָ֣הּ כְּלִי ־פָֽז ׃
οὐκ ἰσωθήσεται αὐτῇ χρυσίον καὶ ὕαλος καὶ τὸ ἄλλαγμα αὐτῆς σκεύη χρυσᾶ
Non adaequabitur ei aurum vel vitrum , nec commutabuntur pro ea vasa auri .
ወኢትማሰላ ፡ ወርቅ ፡ ወማኅው ፡ ወቤዛሃኒ ፡ ንዋየ ፡ ወርቅ ።
Gold and glass can’t equal it, neither will it be exchanged for jewels of fine gold.
28:18 ⧉ ⤴︎ רָאמ֣וֹת וְ֭גָבִישׁ לֹ֣א יִזָּכֵ֑ר וּמֶ֥שֶׁךְ חׇ֝כְמָ֗ה מִפְּנִינִֽים ׃
μετέωρα καὶ γαβις οὐ μνησθήσεται καὶ ἕλκυσον σοφίαν ὑπὲρ τὰ ἐσώτατα
Excelsa et eminentia non memorabuntur comparatione ejus : trahitur autem sapientia de occultis .
ዝሉፍ ፡ ወእንቡዝ ፡ ኢይዜክርዋ ፡ ወሰሐባ ፡ ለጥበብ ፡ እምአፅናቊ ፡ በአምጣነ ፡ ኃይልከ ፡፡ 19፡ ወኢይርዔረያ ፡ ተንከራ ፡ ዘኢትዮጲያ ፡ ወኢትሠየጥ ፡ በወርቅ ፡ ጽሩይ ።
No mention will be made of coral or of crystal. Yes, the price of wisdom is above rubies.
28:19 ⧉ ⤴︎ לֹֽא ־יַ֭עַרְכֶנָּה פִּטְדַת ־כּ֑וּשׁ בְּכֶ֥תֶם טָ֝ה֗וֹר לֹ֣א תְסֻלֶּֽה ׃
οὐκ ἰσωθήσεται αὐτῇ τοπάζιον Αἰθιοπίας χρυσίῳ καθαρῷ οὐ συμβασταχθήσεται
Non adaequabitur ei topazius de Aethiopia , nec tincturae mundissimae componetur .
— The topaz of Ethiopia will not equal it. It won’t be valued with pure gold.
28:20 ⧉ ⤴︎ וְֽ֭הַחׇכְמָה מֵאַ֣יִן תָּב֑וֹא וְאֵ֥י זֶ֝֗ה מְק֣וֹם בִּינָֽה ׃
ἡ δὲ σοφία πόθεν εὑρέθη ποῖος δὲ τόπος ἐστὶν τῆς συνέσεως
Unde ergo sapientia venit ? et quis est locus intelligentiae ?
ወጥበብ ፡ በአይቴ ፡ ተረክበት ፡ ወአይቴ ፡ ውእቱ ፡ ብሔር ፡ ለምክር ።
Where then does wisdom come from? Where is the place of understanding?
28:21 ⧉ ⤴︎ וְֽ֭נֶעֶלְמָה מֵעֵינֵ֣י כׇל ־חָ֑י וּמֵע֖וֹף הַשָּׁמַ֣יִם נִסְתָּֽרָה ׃
λέληθεν πάντα ἄνθρωπον καὶ ἀπὸ πετεινῶν τοῦ οὐρανοῦ ἐκρύβη
Abscondita est ab oculis omnium viventium : volucres quoque caeli latet .
እስመ ፡ ተረስዓት ፡ እምኵሉ ፡ ሰብእ ፡ ወተኃብአት ፡ ዓዲ ፡ እምአዕዋፈ ፡ ሰማይ ።
Seeing it is hidden from the eyes of all living, and kept close from the birds of the sky.
28:22 ⧉ ⤴︎ אֲבַדּ֣וֹן וָ֭מָוֶת אָ֣מְר֑וּ בְּ֝אׇזְנֵ֗ינוּ שָׁמַ֥עְנוּ שִׁמְעָֽהּ ׃
ἡ ἀπώλεια καὶ ὁ θάνατος εἶπαν ἀκηκόαμεν δὲ αὐτῆς τὸ κλέος
Perditio et mors dixerunt : Auribus nostris audivimus famam ejus .
ሞትሂ ፡ ወሲኦል ፡ ይቤሉ ፡ ሰማዕነ ፡ ድምፃ ።
Destruction and Death say, ‘We have heard a rumor of it with our ears.’
28:23 ⧉ ⤴︎ אֱ֭לֹהִים הֵבִ֣ין דַּרְכָּ֑הּ וְ֝ה֗וּא יָדַ֥ע אֶת ־מְקוֹמָֽהּ ׃
ὁ θεὸς εὖ συνέστησεν αὐτῆς τὴν ὁδόν αὐτὸς δὲ οἶδεν τὸν τόπον αὐτῆς
Deus intelligit viam ejus , et ipse novit locum illius .
ወእግዚአብሔር ፡ አሠነየ ፡ ፍታ ፡ ወውእቱ ፡ ለሊሁ ፡ የአምር ፡ ብሔራ ።
“God understands its way, and he knows its place.
28:24 ⧉ ⤴︎ כִּי ־ה֭וּא לִקְצוֹת ־הָאָ֣רֶץ יַבִּ֑יט תַּ֖חַת כׇּל ־הַשָּׁמַ֣יִם יִרְאֶֽה ׃
αὐτὸς γὰρ τὴν ὑπ’ οὐρανὸν πᾶσαν ἐφορᾷ εἰδὼς τὰ ἐν τῇ γῇ πάντα ἃ ἐποίησεν
Ipse enim fines mundi intuetur , et omnia quae sub caelo sunt respicit .
ወውእቱ ፡ ይሬኢ ፡ ኵሎ ፡ ዘውስተ ፡ ሰማይ ፡ ወየአምር ፡ ኵሎ ፡ ዘውስተ ፡ ምድር ።
For he looks to the ends of the earth, and sees under the whole sky.
28:25 ⧉ ⤴︎ לַעֲשׂ֣וֹת לָר֣וּחַ מִשְׁקָ֑ל וּ֝מַ֗יִם תִּכֵּ֥ן בְּמִדָּֽה ׃
ἀνέμων σταθμὸν ὕδατός τε μέτρα
Qui fecit ventis pondus , et aquas appendit in mensura .
ዘለሊሁ ፡ ገብረ ፡ ነፋሳተ ፡ በመዳልው ፡ ወማየሂ ፡ በመስፈርት ።
He establishes the force of the wind. Yes, he measures out the waters by measure.
28:26 ⧉ ⤴︎ בַּעֲשֹׂת֣וֹ לַמָּטָ֣ר חֹ֑ק וְ֝דֶ֗רֶךְ לַחֲזִ֥יז קֹלֽוֹת ׃
ὅτε ἐποίησεν οὕτως ὑετὸν ἠρίθμησεν καὶ ὁδὸν ἐν τινάγματι φωνάς
Quando ponebat pluviis legem , et viam procellis sonantibus :
አመ ፡ ፈጠረ ፡ ከመዝ ፡ አእሚሮ ፡ ኈለቃ ፡ አመ ፡ ገብረ ፡ ለዝናም ፡ ሥርዓተ ፡ ወበፍኖት ፡ ያሜክርዎ ፡ ለቃል ።
When he made a decree for the rain, and a way for the lightning of the thunder,
28:27 ⧉ ⤴︎ אָ֣ז רָ֭אָהּ וַֽיְסַפְּרָ֑הּ הֱ֝כִינָ֗הּ וְגַם ־חֲקָרָֽהּ ׃
τότε εἶδεν αὐτὴν καὶ ἐξηγήσατο αὐτήν ἑτοιμάσας ἐξιχνίασεν
tunc vidit illam et enarravit , et praeparavit , et investigavit .
ወርአያ ፡ አሜሁ ፡ ወኈለቃ ፡ ወአስተዳለዋ ፡ ወአክበራ ፡ ወሰሐባ ።
then he saw it, and declared it. He established it, yes, and searched it out.
28:28 ⧉ ⤴︎ וַיֹּ֤אמֶר ׀ לָאָדָ֗ם הֵ֤ן יִרְאַ֣ת אֲ֭דֹנָי הִ֣יא חׇכְמָ֑ה וְס֖וּר מֵרָ֣ע בִּינָֽה ׃ {פ}
εἶπεν δὲ ἀνθρώπῳ ἰδοὺ ἡ θεοσέβειά ἐστιν σοφία τὸ δὲ ἀπέχεσθαι ἀπὸ κακῶν ἐστιν ἐπιστήμη
Et dixit homini : Ecce timor Domini , ipsa est sapientia ; et recedere a malo , intelligentia .
ወይቤሎ ፡ ለእጓለ ፡ እመሕያው ፡ ናሁ ፡ ፈሪሃ ፡ እግዚአብሔር ፡ ውእቱ ፡ ጥበብ ፡ ወተግኅሦ ፡ እምኵሉ ፡ እኩይ ፡ አእምሮ ፡ ውእቱ ።
To man he said, ‘Behold, the fear of the Lord, that is wisdom. To depart from evil is understanding.’”
