1:684⧉ ⤴︎
'Behold, here he comes, striding over the mountains, leaping over the hills.' To these words the bride again adds:
1:685⧉ ⤴︎
and she sets about her, as around a city, a wall, that she may not be besieged by her enemies; and, as around a vineyard and garden and paradise, a fence, that all who pass along the way may not gather her, nor a boar from the thicket ravage her, and a solitary wild beast feed upon her, as upon that former one which was transplanted out of Egypt.
1:686⧉ ⤴︎
如此她表明:祂既已拆毀了鬼魔的廟宇,並那些所謂諸神的樹叢與神廟(因為這是祂藉「在伯特利的山上」所暗示的;
She signifies, then, that having destroyed the sacred precincts of the demons, and the groves and shrines of the so-called gods (for this He hinted at by 'upon the mountains of Bethel';
1:687⧉ ⤴︎
因為「伯特利」翻譯出來就是「神的家」;
for 'Bethel' is interpreted as 'house of God';
1:688⧉ ⤴︎
and by a name shared with the God who is over all, those who are not gods were also named gods by the impious ones).
1:689⧉ ⤴︎
祂還沒有進入她的內室;
And into her chamber He has not yet entered;
1:690⧉ ⤴︎
卻站在牆外,從窗戶往裡窺看;
but standing outside the wall He peers in through the windows;
1:691⧉ ⤴︎
and by 'windows' she means the senses.
1:692⧉ ⤴︎
For just as through the windows of the senses there flow into the soul both good things and their opposites, and again from there flow out,
1:693⧉ ⤴︎
and he who admits a vain report receives death through the windows.
1:694⧉ ⤴︎
But the bride now enjoys the beauty of the Bridegroom through the windows.
1:695⧉ ⤴︎
And it must be inquired how the Bridegroom peers in through the windows, that is, through our senses.
1:696⧉ ⤴︎
When, meditating in the law of the Lord day and night, we delight ourselves in the divine words, and with compunction and knowledge attend to the things that are written, we open our windows, and receive the face of the Bridegroom.
1:697⧉ ⤴︎
And when, while others read the divine oracles or discourse concerning God, we listen earnestly, again through the other windows the Bridegroom peers in, and shows us His own beauty.
1:698⧉ ⤴︎
祂不但藉著窗戶往裡窺看,也從網羅中向外察看;
But not only through the windows does He peer in, but also from the nets He looks out;
1:699⧉ ⤴︎
for He does not abandon His bride when she is hunted by the scheming demons and encompassed with nets, but delivers her from the snare of the hunters, and from the troubling word. And even in the midst of these very temptations He looks out through the nets, and comforts her when she is besieged, and raises up her spirit.
1:700⧉ ⤴︎
因為祂曾容許撒拉被法老擄去;
For He permitted Sarah to be seized by Pharaoh;
1:701⧉ ⤴︎
He looked forth through the nets, and both consoled the patriarch Abraham, and tearing the nets asunder, restored to him his prey safe and unharmed.
1:702⧉ ⤴︎
Again he was ensnared by Abimelech, and again he looks forth through the nets, and not only rescued the prey, but even bestowed a benefit upon the hunter.
1:703⧉ ⤴︎
祂在以撒身上也做了同樣的事;
This same thing he did also in the case of Isaac;
1:704⧉ ⤴︎
for such things did he suffer concerning Rebecca as the father had suffered concerning Sarah.
1:705⧉ ⤴︎
祂在雅各身上也成就了同樣的事;
This same thing he wrought also in the case of Jacob;
1:706⧉ ⤴︎
for when his kinsman-by-marriage was hastening to overtake him and was eager to slay him, he appears again through the nets, and encourages Jacob, while he strikes fear into Laban.
1:707⧉ ⤴︎
And again, when he feared his brother's coming, he appears and drives away the dread, and instils courage.
1:708⧉ ⤴︎
And with Joseph too, when he had been sold into slavery and become a bondman, he was present in his master's house, and was at hand in the prison, and everywhere, looking forth through the nets, he continually consoled him.
1:709⧉ ⤴︎
祂就這樣與那幾位有福的少年人一同進入那可怕的火窯;
Thus he came together with those blessed young men into that fearful furnace;
1:710⧉ ⤴︎
當聖使徒們被猶太人下在監裡時,祂也這樣勸勉他們要放膽,並要坦然無懼地傳講敬虔的道;
thus, when the holy apostles were cast into prison by the Jews, he exhorted them to take courage, and to preach with boldness the word of true religion;
1:711⧉ ⤴︎
thus afterward, when the blessed Paul was imprisoned in Jerusalem and was expecting death, he instilled courage, saying: 'Be of good cheer, Paul;'
1:712⧉ ⤴︎
'for as you have testified concerning the things about me in Jerusalem, so must you bear witness also at Rome.' This too is what the bride hints at, saying:
1:713⧉ ⤴︎
'My beloved answers, and says to me:'
1:714⧉ ⤴︎
'Rise up, come, my companion, my fair one, my dove.'
1:715⧉ ⤴︎
新郎為新婦的美貌作見證;
The bridegroom bears witness to the beauty of the bride;
1:716⧉ ⤴︎
他不只稱她為美人,乃稱她為「我的美人」;
and he calls her not simply fair, but 'my fair one;'
1:717⧉ ⤴︎
teaching that her beauty is exceedingly pleasing to him.
1:718⧉ ⤴︎
他又稱呼她為鴿子,藉這名稱暗示屬靈的恩典;
And he addresses her also as a dove, hinting through this name at the spiritual grace;
1:719⧉ ⤴︎
for in the form of a dove the Holy Spirit alighted upon him.
1:720⧉ ⤴︎
And the blessed Paul knows how to call the perfect ones spiritual:
1:721⧉ ⤴︎
'And I, brethren, could not speak to you as unto spiritual, but as unto carnal, as unto babes in Christ.' But to the perfect he writes:
1:722⧉ ⤴︎
'But you are not in the flesh, but in the spirit, if so be that the Spirit of God dwells in you.'
1:723⧉ ⤴︎
所以,新郎理當稱那在德行上臻於完全的靈魂為鴿子;
Fittingly, therefore, the bridegroom names the soul that has been perfected in virtue a dove;
1:724⧉ ⤴︎
that is, spiritual and filled with the Holy Spirit.
1:725⧉ ⤴︎
For indeed the prophet Isaiah, foreseeing these things from afar, and beholding the holy apostles flying, as it were winged, over all the inhabited world, and their disciples and hearers following them like young nestlings, cries aloud and says:
1:726⧉ ⤴︎
'Who are these that fly as clouds, and as doves with their young?' Thus here too the bridegroom, consoling and comforting his Church as she labours amid temptations, and looking forth from the windows and peering out from the nets, exhorts her to arise and to fly up to him.
1:727⧉ ⤴︎
「祂的背在金子的青翠光澤中」──這是那些隱藏之奧祕的璀璨榮光;
'and his back parts in the greenness of gold' — the resplendence of the hidden mysteries;
1:728⧉ ⤴︎
should you draw profit from them, you will find there the manifold gifts of the Spirit.
1:729⧉ ⤴︎
The bride, therefore, having received the spiritual exhortation and having lain down between the lots, found the silvered wings by which she is bidden to fly up to the bridegroom.
1:730⧉ ⤴︎
'For behold,' he says, 'the winter is past, the rain is over and gone.'
1:731⧉ ⤴︎
'The voice of the turtledove is heard in our land.'
1:732⧉ ⤴︎
'The fig tree has put forth her green figs, the vines in blossom give forth their fragrance.'
1:733⧉ ⤴︎
Let us set beside these, if it seems good, also the evangelical utterances of the Lord.
1:734⧉ ⤴︎
For beholding a great multitude flowing together to him from every quarter, he says to the sacred apostles:
1:735⧉ ⤴︎
'The harvest truly is plenteous, but the labourers are few.' And elsewhere too:
1:736⧉ ⤴︎
'Already,' he says, 'he that reaps receives wages, and gathers fruit unto life eternal.' And again:
1:737⧉ ⤴︎
'One is he that sows,' he says, 'and another that reaps;'
1:738⧉ ⤴︎
「我差你們去收割。」由此,讓我們來領會「看哪,冬天已往」這句話。因為祂稱祂降臨以前的時期為冬天,稱降臨以後的時期為春天;
'I have sent you to reap.' From this, then, let us understand the saying, 'Behold, the winter is past.' For he calls the time before his coming winter, and spring that which is after the coming;
1:739⧉ ⤴︎
and the height of summer, the age that is awaited.
1:740⧉ ⤴︎
'And it is gone its way.' For the shadow gives place to the body, the pedagogue to the wise teacher.
1:741⧉ ⤴︎
'For the flowers have appeared in the land.' Attention must be given to the exactness of the words.
1:742⧉ ⤴︎
For he did not say the fruits, but flowers. For the perfection of good things is bestowed upon the worthy in the age to come.
1:743⧉ ⤴︎
But here those who follow the blessed Paul say:
1:744⧉ ⤴︎
'I am the true vine, you are the branches;'
1:745⧉ ⤴︎
'my Father is the husbandman;'
1:746⧉ ⤴︎
'every branch in me that bears not fruit, he takes it away;'
1:747⧉ ⤴︎
'And the time of the pruning has arrived.' But also, 'The voice of the turtledove is heard in our land.' Again he calls the teaching of the all-holy Spirit the voice of the turtledove.
1:748⧉ ⤴︎
For having said, 'How amiable are your tabernacles, O Lord of hosts! My soul longs, yea, even faints for the courts of the Lord;'
1:749⧉ ⤴︎

「就是你的祭壇,萬軍之耶和華。」他教導我們,那些雛鳥就是藉著洗禮之水得著重生的人;

The bridegroom therefore says that 'The voice of the turtledove is heard in our land, and the fig tree has put forth her green figs' — that is, the early fruit of faith, through which the other fruit also, I mean that of works, becomes lasting and does not fall off, but ripens and is rendered most sweet.

'Who is this coming up from the wilderness like pillars of smoke, as though perfumed with myrrh and frankincense, with all the fragrant powders of the perfumer?' For just as, seeing the Bridegroom ascend into the heavens after the conquest of the devil and the abolition of death, they marvel and say:
1:879⧉ ⤴︎
「這榮耀的王是誰呢?」他們便得知,乃是「那剛強大能的主,在爭戰中大有能力的主」;他們既想更精確地知曉,便再次發問;
'Who is this King of glory?' and they learn that it is 'the Lord strong and mighty, the Lord mighty in battle'; and wishing to learn yet more exactly, they ask again;
1:880⧉ ⤴︎
so here too, marveling at the beauty of the bride, they say:
1:881⧉ ⤴︎
'Who is this that comes up from the wilderness?' And they call human nature 'wilderness,' on account of its former impiety.
1:882⧉ ⤴︎
「乾渴的曠野啊,你要歡喜;
'Rejoice, O thirsty wilderness;
1:883⧉ ⤴︎
「願曠野歡樂,如百合花開放。」正如在此他們驚訝,竟有如此的華美從曠野中萌發;
let the wilderness be glad, and blossom as the lily.' And just as here they are astonished that so great a beauty has sprung forth from the wilderness;
1:884⧉ ⤴︎
so also in the prophecy of Isaiah they marvel, seeing the Bridegroom, and say, 'Who is this that comes from Edom? The redness of his garments from Bosor?' And 'Edom' signifies the earth, and 'Bosor' the flesh.
1:885⧉ ⤴︎
And astonished at his beauty they cry out: 'This one is comely in his robe, mighty in strength.'
1:886⧉ ⤴︎
'Why are your garments red, as from a full winepress that has been trodden down?' And they say:
1:887⧉ ⤴︎
「祂雖在身體之中,卻發出光輝。」他們稱祂的身體為祂的華服;
'Being in a body, he shines forth.' They have named his body his robe;
1:888⧉ ⤴︎
and he has a compelling beauty, constraining all who behold him.
1:889⧉ ⤴︎
So here they are astonished, not only that the bride is beautiful, but that she is also coming up from the wilderness—that is, ascending from the depths to the heights, and journeying from lowly things to the lofty.
1:890⧉ ⤴︎
他說:「她好像一根薰香的煙柱。」這句的結構確實含糊;
'And she is like,' he says, 'a pillar of smoke, perfumed.' The construction is indeed obscure;
1:891⧉ ⤴︎
因為七十士譯者受制於希伯來文的語法,未能把意思講明;
for the Seventy, being subservient to the Hebrew tongue, did not make the meaning clear;
1:892⧉ ⤴︎
but Aquila and Symmachus disclosed the sense to us, saying, 'Like the likeness of smoke from incense.' And often the smoke of incense in the air imitates a pillar, being as it were shaped into form.
1:893⧉ ⤴︎
And fittingly they say that she resembles the smoke of incense—she who, according to the blessed Paul, has presented her members as a living sacrifice, holy, well-pleasing to God, and who offers continually the sacrifice of praise, and has put to death her members that are upon the earth, and has been buried together with Christ, and has brought herself as a whole burnt offering to God.
1:894⧉ ⤴︎
「因為他們說:沒藥與乳香,並商人各樣的香粉」;
'for they say myrrh and frankincense, from all the fragrant powders of the perfumer';
1:895⧉ ⤴︎
and myrrh is an unguent for dead bodies.
1:896⧉ ⤴︎
By these names, then, those who marvel at the beauty of the bride signify that she is fragrant, and likened to the vapor of incense, for this reason: because she worships both the humanity and the divinity, and, believing in his death, also confesses his existence before the ages.
1:897⧉ ⤴︎
From all the fragrant powders of the perfumer, then, they marvel at her myrrh and her frankincense.
1:898⧉ ⤴︎
因為她也有其他各樣的美德,如同從某位香料商——就是神聖的經卷——處採集這些美德;
For she has the other virtues as well, gathering these as though from some perfumer, namely the divine Scripture;
1:899⧉ ⤴︎
but her choicest are the myrrh and the frankincense, that is, theology and the economy.
1:900⧉ ⤴︎
Thus, having marveled at the beauty of the bride, they recount to her the riches of the Bridegroom, and say:
1:901⧉ ⤴︎
'Behold, the bed of Solomon; sixty mighty men are around it, of the mighty men of Israel.
1:902⧉ ⤴︎
「他們都手持利劍,熟練戰事;
All of them holding swords, trained for war;
1:903⧉ ⤴︎
each man his sword upon his thigh, because of terror in the nights.'
1:904⧉ ⤴︎
But before all things it must be inquired: why in the world do they address the Bridegroom as 'Solomon'?
1:905⧉ ⤴︎
「所羅門」一詞解作「和平的」;
The word 'Solomon' is interpreted 'peaceable';
1:906⧉ ⤴︎
and this one may find in the Books of Chronicles:
1:907⧉ ⤴︎
「這人必作安息之人,我必使他得享安息,脫離四圍一切的仇敵,因為他名叫所羅門;
'This one shall be a man of rest, and I will give him rest from all his enemies round about, for Solomon is his name;
1:908⧉ ⤴︎
and I will give peace and quietness upon Israel in his days.
1:909⧉ ⤴︎
This one shall build a house for my name, and this one shall be to me for a son, and I will be to him for a father, and I will establish the throne of his kingdom in Israel forever.' But it is quite evident that Solomon died, not having lived even a long time, and that his throne came to an end.
1:910⧉ ⤴︎
Therefore he addresses as 'Solomon' our peaceable Lord, concerning whom the blessed Paul says:
1:911⧉ ⤴︎
因為經上說:「祂要為民中的困苦人伸冤,拯救窮乏人的子孫,並要壓制欺壓者」;
For, it says, 'He shall judge the poor of the people, and shall save the children of the needy, and shall bring low the false accuser';
1:912⧉ ⤴︎
'and he shall continue as long as the sun, and before the moon throughout all generations.' But Solomon neither continued as long as the sun, nor before the moon throughout all generations.
1:913⧉ ⤴︎
反倒是,這些話乃是應驗在那按人性從所羅門而出的耶穌基督身上;
Rather, these things fit Jesus Christ, who according to His humanity sprang from Solomon;
1:914⧉ ⤴︎
who, existing before the ages, 'came down like rain upon a fleece, and like a raindrop falling upon the earth.' And by 'fleece' here he designated the Virgin.
1:915⧉ ⤴︎
For just as rain descends upon a fleece without any sound, so that saving birth came to pass while all men were unaware of it.
1:916⧉ ⤴︎
'In his days righteousness shall arise, and abundance of peace,'
1:917⧉ ⤴︎
'until the moon be taken away.'
1:918⧉ ⤴︎
「祂要執掌權柄,從這海到那海,從大河直到地極」,以及隨後所有與此同義的話語;
'And he shall have dominion from sea to sea, and from the rivers to the ends of the world,' and all that follows, which holds to the same meaning;
1:919⧉ ⤴︎
for now is not the time to expound this psalm.
