1:6888
By 'children' he means those who have been weaned, thereby signifying affliction.
1:6889
For it does not leave its mother's side, grieving at being deprived of the milk.
1:6890
'Thus,' he says, 'being amid misfortunes, I too prayed to God continually.'
1:6891
But if I should not be so, may I pay the utmost penalty.
1:6892
'O Lord, remember' — rendering to him according to his meekness. For just as he, being meek, forgave Saul the wrongs done to him, so also forgive him his transgressions.
1:6893
How he swore unto the Lord, and vowed unto the God of Jacob, and so forth.
1:6894
For having learned from the Holy Spirit that the Lord would come to dwell among men, granting forgiveness of many sins, and hoping himself to be saved through this, he hastens to learn when this will be, where it will happen, and in what manner he will come to dwell.
1:6895
Longing to know these things, he subjected himself to such hardship as to renounce all bedding, to take leave of his house, and to lie before God, before the face of the sanctuary, upon the ground, confirming by oath that he would not rise until he had learned them.
1:6896
And God, taking pity on his fervor, assents.
1:6897
even as, having once sworn, he did not prove false.
1:6898
Behold, we heard of it at Ephratah.
1:6899
And what is 'it,' but the coming of the Lord that was to be? 'We found it in the fields of the wood.'
1:6900
For the cave in which Christ was born is amid the fields, that is, in the countryside.
1:6901
We will go into his tabernacles.
1:6902
He signifies the churches that would come to be in their time.
1:6903
We will worship at the place where his feet stood.
1:6904
Arise, O Lord, into thy resting place.
1:6905
They are eagerly urging on his ascension into the heavens.
1:6906
Thou, and the ark of thy sanctuary.
1:6907
By 'the ark of the sanctuary' he means his holy flesh.
1:6908
Thy priests shall be clothed with righteousness.
1:6909
'No longer,' he says, 'garments according to the law, but righteousness itself.'
1:6910
And where is it that he 'swore'? In his saying to him:
1:6911
And it shall be, when thy days are fulfilled, and thou shalt sleep with thy fathers, that another shall arise from thy seed, who shall come from thy body.
1:6912
And I will prepare his kingdom forever.
1:6913
He shall build a house for my name.
1:6914
and I will establish his kingdom forever.
1:6915
I will be to him a father, and he shall be to me a son.
1:6916
If thy sons keep my covenant...
1:6917
This is my resting place forever.
1:6918
For even if the ancient temple lies desolate on account of the madness of the Jews, still, there again, the sites of the cross, of the resurrection, and of the ascension have been made worthy of divine grace.
1:6919
Her provision I will surely bless.
1:6920
For each such person, being seed of the righteous, is not lacking in bread.
1:6921
It is also written 'her widow,' plainly meaning the one who has no protector.
1:6922
I will satisfy her poor with bread.
1:6923
Those who have become poor for God's sake.
1:6924
I will clothe her priests with salvation.
1:6925
Once again it is Christ himself who is the salvation, the very one also named righteousness above.
1:6926
I have prepared a lamp for my anointed one.
1:6927
He says this concerning John, in accordance with what was said by the Lord:
1:6928
He was the lamp, burning and shining.
1:6929
The fourteenth ode, following upon the Savior's shining forth, makes manifest the good bestowed by him upon men, saying:
1:6930
Behold now, how good, or how pleasant...
1:6931
As ointment upon the head, which ran down upon the beard.
1:6932
For, he says, when the Church is gathered together and made, as it were, into a single harmony, then—indeed, then—the anointing of the Holy Spirit and the priesthood is applied: first upon the head of the Church, which is Christ, and afterward upon the beard, which is the comeliness of the Church's face.
1:6933
By this are meant the apostles.
1:6934
And at last it has passed over also to the whole body, that is, to all who in the Church have put on Christ.
1:6935
For there the Lord commanded the blessing, and life forevermore.
1:6936
顯然,這是指那些同住在一處的弟兄之中所發生的事;
And it is clear that this is among those brothers who dwell together in the same place;
1:6937
not any ordinary life, but the immortal one.
1:6938
For upon Zion the life-giving dew of the all-holy Spirit was sent down upon the sacred apostles, through which all who believe reap the eternal blessing as their fruit.
1:6939
For of them the heart and the soul were one.
1:6940
Behold now, bless the Lord, all you servants of the Lord.
1:6941
The fifteenth ode exhorts those still being catechized in the Church to praise God.
1:6942
In the nights lift up your hands to the holy places.
1:6943
He says that they still stand in the night, inasmuch as they have not yet been deemed worthy of the illumination of the Holy Spirit.
1:6944
May the Lord bless you out of Zion.
1:6945
it belonged to them, there where the foundation of every sacred rite lay.
1:6946
Then he teaches them to call upon him from every quarter, saying:
1:6947
who made heaven and earth.
1:6948
Praise the name of the Lord; praise the Lord, you servants.
1:6949
This psalm too is spoken to those newly brought in, exhorting: Praise God.
1:6950
For 'Allelu' is interpreted 'praise,' and 'ia,' 'the Lord.'
1:6951
你們要讚美耶和華,因耶和華本為善;
Praise the Lord, for the Lord is good;
1:6952
sing psalms to his name, for it is lovely.
1:6953
He urges them to sing psalms—men who, before this, had even practiced other forms of idolatry in Egypt.
1:6954
These were those descended from Jacob.
1:6955
And they were called to hymn God.
1:6956
Israel for his own peculiar possession.
1:6957
For Israel is the mind that sees clearly.
1:6958
For I have known that the Lord is great, and our Lord is above all gods.
1:6959
From his creative power he has known him to be Lord.
1:6960
in the seas and in all the depths.
1:6961
bringing up clouds from the ends of the earth.
1:6962
He says this because the seas surround the earth on the outside, and it is from them that he brings up the clouds.
1:6963
He made lightnings for the rain.
1:6964
And this too would be a symbol of the power befitting God, that in it the fiery nature of the lightnings and water are mingled together.
1:6965
He brings forth winds out of his treasuries.
1:6966
By 'treasuries' he made clear that the nature of the winds is incomprehensible to men.
1:6967
Similar is what was said by the Lord:
1:6968
The wind blows where it wills, and you hear its sound;
1:6969
but you do not know where it comes from, and where it goes.
1:6970
who struck the firstborn of Egypt, from man to beast.
1:6971
He placed the last plague first, since it was after this one that they received their freedom.
1:6972
He mentions the beasts too, since these things came into being for man's sake, and it is for man's sake that they are punished as well.
1:6973
So that the plague might be shown to be sent from God, unto the increase of fear.
1:6974
The idols of the nations are silver and gold, the works of men's hands.
1:6975
After showing forth the divine providence and offering it praise, as one still conversing with servants who had but lately come over from the nations, he goes on in due course to set out, by comparison, the refutation of the gods whom they formerly esteemed:
1:6976
For I have known that the Lord is great, and our Lord is above all gods.
1:6977
因為祂成就了如此偉大、如此眾多的事;
For he has done such great and so many things;
1:6978
but your former gods are nothing but dead and mute idols, and may those who make them become like them.
1:6979
For how could those who worship lifeless things not have their very souls turned to stone? And those whom, by former custom, he once called gods, he now shames and has called idols, condemning them both by their material and by their workmanship.
1:6980
Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good, for his mercy endures forever.
1:6981
To him who divided the Red Sea into parts.
1:6982
An ancient tradition says that the sea, having been divided into twelve sections, gave to each tribe a single path of its own.
1:6983
To him who led his people through the wilderness.
1:6984
The wonder of the wilderness is no less than that of the sea.
1:6985
For many were the things that threatened death: famine, drought, thirst, a multitude of wild beasts, and the desert's lack of every necessity.
1:6986
Yet they walked on, fearing nothing.
1:6987
And he delivered them from two mighty kings, who prided themselves on their strength, their power, and the greatness of their stature.
1:6988
Og, whose bed was nine cubits in length and five in breadth, and it was made of iron.
1:6989
Sihon, king of the Amorites.
1:6990
It is not without purpose that, passing over the other kings, he made particular mention of these two, but rather to remind the people of the victory given them by God.
1:6991
For these too prided themselves on their strength, their power, and the greatness of their stature.
1:6992
who remembered us in our low estate.
1:6993
The saying that 'the Lord remembered us in our low estate' will fit better those who have been set free from intelligible slavery than those freed from sensible slavery.
1:6994
who gives food to all flesh.
1:6995
祂的護理從天上的奇事,直延伸到地上最微小的事物;
a providence reaching from the wonders in heaven down to the smallest things on earth;
1:6996
and from there it extends back up again to heaven.
1:6997
Give thanks to the God of heaven.
1:6998
And though he is the maker of all things, he is styled, by special distinction, God of heaven, being served by those who dwell there.
1:6999
For it is a place pure of sin.
1:7000
By the rivers of Babylon, there we sat down and wept.
1:7001
If I forget you, O Jerusalem, let my right hand be forgotten.
1:7002
That is, may I not attain the help that comes from above.
1:7003
Let my tongue cling to my throat, if I do not remember you.
1:7004
I will sing to the Lord throughout my life.
1:7005
The city was precious to them because of divine worship, as was said before: 'For the sake of the Lord our God, I have sought good things for you.'
1:7006
If I do not set Jerusalem before me as the beginning of my joy.
1:7007
That is, he says, 'I will set the remembrance of you before every joy.'
1:7008
For in this way it happens that our remaining joys, too, become good for us.
1:7009
And the Lord too teaches us to put sacred nourishment before bodily nourishment.
1:7010
Remember, O Lord, the sons of Edom.
1:7011
The sons of Edom are the Idumeans descended from Esau, who, when Jerusalem was taken, trampled upon her bitterly, until they saw her torn up from her very foundations.
1:7012
O wretched daughter of Babylon.
1:7013
This is a prophetic word; that saying too signifies the sack of Babylon.
1:7014
Blessed is he who will repay you your recompense.
1:7015
That one, he says, is blessed, who leads you captive in turn.
1:7016
這篇詩篇包含了萬國蒙召的預言;
The present psalm contains a prophecy of the calling of all the nations;
1:7017
他也為此感恩:並非唯獨他自己身為君王,才蒙賜以神聖的顯現;
for which he also gives thanks, that he alone, though a king, was not the only one deemed worthy of the divine manifestation;
1:7018
but that many kings of the nations, he says, would also be deemed worthy of the same grace, a thing that came to pass only after the Lord's coming among us.
1:7019
I will give thanks to you, O Lord, with my whole heart.
1:7020
This is the commandment the Savior gave to the rich man, saying:
1:7021
You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your strength.
1:7022
And before the angels I will sing to you; I will worship toward your holy temple.
1:7023
As though the angels were present, always beholding his victory that is according to God.
1:7024
And I will give thanks to your name for your mercy and your truth.
1:7025
I will give thanks, he says, for the fact that I have been redeemed from the shadow and deemed worthy of the truth.
1:7026
For you have magnified your holy name above all things.
1:7027
He says that he offers thanksgiving for the calling of the nations.
1:7028
我感謝,不僅是為了自己所蒙受的美善;
I give thanks not only for the good things that have happened to me;
1:7029
but also because I behold your glory throughout all things, in creating, in benefiting, and in chastising.
1:7030
For there is nothing in creation that does not proclaim your majesty.
1:7031
You will greatly care for me in my soul, with your power.
1:7032
By 'abundant care' he means 'long duration.'
1:7033
And let them sing in the songs of the Lord, for great is the glory of the Lord.
1:7034
He has recorded the songs of the Lord, which he promises that all those from the nations will sing.
1:7035
For the Lord is high, and he looks upon the lowly.
1:7036
他說:你不要驚訝,若這些事發生在世人身上;
Do not marvel, he says, if these things come to pass among men;
1:7037
for human affairs are not estranged from the providence of God.
1:7038
And he knows lofty things from afar.
1:7039
For, according to the divine Apostle, he foreordained from the foundation of the world both the calling of the nations and their elevation to the heights.
1:7040
If I walk in the midst of affliction, you will give me life.
1:7041
在世上你們有苦難;
In the world you will have tribulation;
1:7042
but take courage, I have overcome the world.
1:7043
For the right hand of the Father has been stretched forth against them, that is, the Son, who also saved us.
1:7044
The Lord will repay on my behalf.
1:7045
For having judged the injustice done against us, he cast out the ruler of this world.
1:7046
The psalm is referred to the person of Zachariah, at the time when the sons of Israel were still in captivity, and indeed the prophet himself was among them.
1:7047
他描述神眷顧我們的方式;
He writes concerning the manner of God's care for us;
1:7048
並說明他不僅眷顧總體之事,也眷顧個別之事;
and how he exercises providence not only over things in general, but also over each particular thing;
1:7049
so that not even our movements nor our thoughts fall outside his providence.
1:7050
He also marvels greatly at the depth of the divine dispensation, and clearly signifies both the calling of the nations and the contradiction raised against the Savior Christ by the people from Israel.
1:7051
We have said many times that the psalms so titled are to be referred to the time of the Lord's coming.
1:7052
O Lord, you have tested me and known me.
1:7053
As one confident that he holds firm faith in Christ, and that he has had no part in the lawlessness of the wicked people, he calls upon the fashioner of their hearts as his witness.
1:7054
You have understood my thoughts from afar; my path and my line you have traced out.
1:7055
If God knows the movement of our thoughts, how much more does he have knowledge of the course of our life.
1:7056
My path and my line you have traced out.
1:7057
A measuring line is a fixed measure of a road.
1:7058
意思是說:你知道理性一切的活動;
He means that you know every movement of reasoning;
1:7059
for he signifies these movements by means of 'ways.'
1:7060
For there is no deceit in my tongue.
1:7061
Behold, O Lord, you have known all things, the last and the first.
1:7062
The middle things are passed over in silence, because it is evil that lies in between.
1:7063
For evil was not in the beginning, nor will it be again in the end.
1:7064
You fashioned me, and laid your hand upon me.
1:7065
他說:縱使你造了我,又在我已存在之後持守著我;
Even though you fashioned me, he says, and sustain me now that I exist;
1:7066
因為神按手一事,正表明賜給我們聖靈的恩賜;
for the laying on of God's hand signifies the gift of the Spirit granted to us;
1:7067
just as the apostles, through the laying on of hands, imparted the Holy Spirit.
1:7068
Your knowledge is too wonderful for me; it has grown too strong; I shall not be able to attain to it.
1:7069
For there are very many other things that have come to him from God, and he is not able fully to discern them.
1:7070
For the knowledge of these things, he says, surpasses my power and lies beyond my comprehension, so that I am unable either to find them out or to declare them.
1:7071
For as many things as I have said turn out to be small and utterly slight.
1:7072
For the comprehension of the divine power escapes my smallness.
1:7073
'If I ascend into heaven, you are there.'
1:7074
Similar to: 'Heaven is my throne.'
1:7075
'If I go down to Hades, you are present.'
1:7076
He prophesies the descent of the Lord into Hades that came to pass.
1:7077
'If I should take up my wings at dawn and dwell in the uttermost parts of the sea.'
1:7078
意即:倘若我取得的是飛鳥尚未疲乏的翅膀;
That is, if I should take the wings of birds not yet wearied;
1:7079
for this is what 'at dawn' signifies: fresh in their flying and filled with strength.
1:7080
'Having encompassed all things,' he says, 'O Lord, you know all things beforehand, and you are present everywhere, and you fill all things as God.'
1:7081
What shall become of me, if some sin should befall me, and if I should have need of flight and escape, since you, the Lord, have encompassed all things? And I said:
1:7082
'Surely darkness will trample me down.'
1:7083
'Will trample' is used instead of 'will cover and hide me from your eyes.'
1:7084
But even this darkness, he says, is in your knowledge just as the light itself would be.
1:7085
'As its darkness, so also its light.'
1:7086
For just as night is dark to me, so it is bright to you.
1:7087
He says that the kidneys are what produce fear.
1:7088
'You took hold of me from my mother's womb.'
1:7089
Fittingly, he says, I acquired the fear of you, since your providence guarded me even while I was being formed in the womb.
1:7090
'I will confess to you, for you were made fearfully wonderful.'
1:7091
Fittingly, after the aforesaid theology, he now utters this confession.
1:7092
'Wonderful are your works, and my soul knows it exceedingly.'
1:7093
This, he says, is to me an ineffable power, yet it is manifest to you, God.
1:7094
'My bone, which you made in secret, was not hidden from you.'
1:7095
他說,那婦人被取出之事並未逃過你的眼目——你曾使我沉入深沉的睡眠之中,暗中從我的骨頭造出了她;
It did not escape your notice, he says, the taking of the woman, whom you secretly formed out of my bone, having lulled me into a heavy sleep;
1:7096
but you knew our hidden matters, you who brought her secretly into being.
1:7097
'And my substance in the lowest parts of the earth.'
1:7098
And even if I should be dissolved, he says, and go into dust, this too is likewise known to you. 'Your eyes saw my unformed substance.'
1:7099
Before I came into being, he says, and before I was formed, your eyes of foreknowledge beheld me and foresaw me — not merely in a general way, but as one already laid up, numbered, and written in your book.
1:7100
'Days will be formed, and not one of them yet exists.'
1:7101
Throughout all the days of their life they conducted themselves in an orderly and well-formed manner, and not even one of their days was without order or without form.
1:7102
'But to me your friends have been greatly honored, O God;'
1:7103
'He who receives a prophet in the name of a prophet shall receive a prophet's reward.'
1:7104
'I will number them, and they will be multiplied beyond the sand.'
1:7105
I am full of good hope, he says, in honoring your friends, that indeed at the resurrection I shall stand together with them, and through them I shall obtain honor from you.
1:7106
Then indeed, he says, the sinners too will be slain, that is, they will receive their fitting punishments.
1:7107
'If only you would slay sinners, O God.'
1:7108
Knowing the punishments that would come upon them, he in some way sets them apart, outside of himself.
1:7109
'Men of blood, depart from me, for you are contentious in your reasonings.'
1:7110
Τὴν αἰ.
He states the reason for which he drives the sinners away from himself.
1:7111
「主啊,恨你的人,我豈不恨他們嗎?」因為你的朋友,我愛他們,也接納他們;
'Have I not hated those who hate you, O Lord?' For your friends I loved and welcomed;
1:7112
but your enemies I hated completely.
1:7113
神的仇敵,首先且主要是指那些污穢的鬼魔;
The enemies of God, first and properly, are the unclean demons;
1:7114
and second after them, those who champion idolatry, and the founders of the heresies.
1:7115
139. 'Deliver me, O Lord, from the evil man.'
1:7116
Because of the injustice done by the demons to human nature, [human nature] cries out to God to execute vengeance, and to turn the injustice back upon the head of those who commit it.
1:7117
But these words might also be spoken concerning perceptible enemies.
1:7118
'Who devised injustice in their heart; all the day they arrayed wars.'
1:7119
For they did not merely employ evil reasonings, but they also added deeds to their reasonings.
1:7120
As for 'all the day,' Symmachus renders it 'every day.'
1:7121
'Along the path they set snares for me.'
1:7122
All these things, he says, they did in order to halt the course of his journey toward God, ensnaring his feet with traps, so as to cast him down from his standing in God.
1:7123
'Do not deliver me, O Lord, according to my desire, to the sinner.'
1:7124
他說,主啊,我所渴慕的,是渴慕救恩;
I, O Lord, he says, desire the desire of salvation;
1:7125
therefore do not forsake me, so that, turned aside from this, I be delivered to the sinner, that is, to the devil.
1:7126
'Do not forsake me, lest they be exalted.'
1:7127
He asks to be sheltered in the covering of his wings, and under his mighty hand, from which no one can snatch away, so that they might not become proud of themselves as though over something else.
1:7128
'As for the head of those who surround me,'
1:7129
May what they plotted, he says, come upon them.
1:7130
For this is what 'the head of their encirclement' signifies.
1:7131
For the head of sinners is their reasoning and their perception.
1:7132
Indeed, may also their trouble and the toil they exerted against me come back upon them.
1:7133
These are also to be handed over to the punishment by fire.
1:7134
'Coals shall fall upon them in the fire.'
1:7135
For as though by a kind of fire — your wrath — you will consume them.
1:7136
'You will cast them down into miseries, and they shall not endure.'
1:7137
They will fall into calamities, and they will not prevail over them.
1:7138
These things happened to Saul in the war against the Philistines.
1:7139
For there, having been slain, he met the end of his life.
1:7140
'A man full of tongue shall not be established upon the earth.'
1:7141
Eternal fire awaits the ungodly.
1:7142
And in this present life as well, the man of the evil tongue will not be guided aright unto the end.
1:7143
For no contentious and abusive man, being of an earthly disposition, is set aright, since he is warped by the very fact of being contentious.
1:7144
For since such men are lovers of sin, how could they be guided aright by virtue? 'Evils shall hunt the unjust man to destruction.'
1:7145
For just as a man is destroyed by a disease that is his own, apart from any wickedness of another, so he pays the fitting penalty.
1:7146
For wickedness alone is sufficient, in place of every punishment, to destroy the soul that possesses it.
1:7147
This verse too resembles the one that follows, except that it is more doctrinal in character.
1:7148
O Lord, I have cried unto You; hear me.
1:7149
Attend to the voice of my supplication, when I cry unto You.
1:7150
The cry surely signifies the intensity of the mind.
1:7151
Let my prayer be directed as incense before You.
1:7152
He likens the things that come from the mind to incense, seeing that they are subtle, and are offered up to God alone.
1:7153
The lifting up of my hands, as the evening sacrifice.
1:7154
He likens the deeds signified by the hands to a sacrifice, since these are coarser than the choices of the mind.
1:7155
He says 'evening' because one must practice good deeds all the way to the end.
1:7156
Set, O Lord, a watch upon my mouth, and a door of enclosure round about my lips.
1:7157
Since he knows that success in guarding the tongue is a great thing, he asks God to grant him mastery over it.
1:7158
Incline not my heart to words of wickedness.
1:7159
意思就是說,求你不要容許我那一度受美善造就的心思,偏轉到相反的一面;
That is, do not allow my mind, which was once well fashioned, to be turned aside to the contrary;
1:7160
that I may not, he says, conceive thoughts of lawlessness.
1:7161
Let the righteous man chasten me in mercy, and reprove me.
1:7162
I would welcome every chastening from the righteous man, but may I never receive the flattering praise of the sinner, with which they anoint my head as though with oil.
1:7163
For my prayer continues even in the midst of their delights; their judges have been swallowed up, cast close beside the rock.
1:7164
Having come near the rock, he says, they shall be sunk into the deep.
1:7165
And he signifies that Christ Himself will sink them into the abyss.
1:7166
They shall hear my words, for they were sweet.
1:7167
The outcome, he says, of the punishment foretold against them will lend my words the credit of truth and fitting comeliness.
1:7168
As when a clod of earth is broken up upon the ground.
1:7169
他說,我們已將自己一切屬地的部分撕裂,為你的緣故自卑;
All that is earthly in us, he says, we have rent asunder, humbling ourselves for Your sake;
1:7170
so that all our strength has been brought down as far as Hades.
1:7171
This is similar to, 'For Your sake we are put to death all the day long.'
1:7172
For unto You, O Lord, Lord, are my eyes.
1:7173
至於我,我不倚靠任何屬人的事物;
But I trust in none of the things that are human;
1:7174
rather, I wait for Your help, and I beseech that my soul not be stripped of it.
1:7175
In You have I hoped; take not away my soul.
1:7176
Do not pour out or empty me of the hope which I have toward You.
1:7177
The sinners shall fall into their own net.
1:7178
May the sinners, he says, fall into their own nets.
1:7179
I am alone, until I shall pass by.
1:7180
Then, he says, I shall pass by without fear and without anxiety, when the sinners themselves fall into their own nets.
1:7181
But I shall continue on, separated from these, until I reach the end of my life.
1:7182
What lies before us is indeed a prayer, and nothing else.
1:7183
然而,它仍需要悟性去領會;
Nevertheless, it requires understanding;
1:7184
so that we may learn in what manner, when we are in the midst of trials, we may be able to escape evils.
1:7185
我發聲呼求耶和華;
With my voice I cried unto the Lord;
1:7186
with my voice I made supplication to the Lord.
1:7187
I will pour out my supplication before Him.
1:7188
As it were, he says, he has dedicated his whole mind to the Lord.
1:7189
I will declare my affliction before Him.
1:7190
Contending, he says, in the race that concerns the soul itself, I offer up my supplications, praying that my afflictions be made known.
1:7191
You know, he says, that I am pursued unjustly.
1:7192
When my spirit was failing within me.
1:7193
他之所以這樣做,是因為看見禍患已達極度嚴重的地步;
He did these things, beholding the extremity of the evils;
1:7194
for I was encamped right beside death itself.
1:7195
'And You have known my paths' is spoken by one who has confidence in the course of his life and in his deeds: 'You have known my paths.'
1:7196
They hid a snare for me, which the present prayer has brought to nothing.
1:7197
For, so far as depended on men, once he was caught in the cave he was shut off from every escape, and there was no one to rescue him, or to seek after his soul.
1:7198
In this way in which I was walking, they hid a snare for me.
1:7199
If one considers the place in the cave, he will find that what has been said fits it exactly.
1:7200
I looked on my right hand and beheld, and there was no one who knew me.
1:7201
Setting evils that closely border upon virtue right beside the virtues being practiced.
1:7202
例如,對走向智慧之路的人,他們暗設網羅,就是那不屬神的智慧;
As, for instance, to one journeying toward wisdom they hid a snare, a wisdom not of God;
1:7203
and to one seeking knowledge they set before him that which is falsely called by its name.
1:7204
This saying bears some resemblance to, 'Close beside the path they have set stumbling blocks for me.'
1:7205
For to those who are more ambitious for honor, snares are laid on the right hand.
1:7206
Flight has perished from me, and there is no one who seeks after my soul.
1:7207
For it was not possible to flee from the cave, since the approaches before it were held by Saul's men.
1:7208
No one, he says, seeks the salvation of my soul. 'I have cried unto You, O Lord.'
1:7209
For upon Him alone does he place the hopes of his salvation.
1:7210
Bring my soul out of prison.
1:7211
He says these things with reference to the place of the cave.
1:7212
Bring my soul out from its confinement,
1:7213
that I may give thanks to your name.
1:7214
When, he says, you have released me from this affliction and from the prison, I will send up songs of thanksgiving.
1:7215
The righteous wait for me, until you repay me.
1:7216
If, he says, you bring me out from here, having rewarded my good deeds, then the rest of the righteous too, holding me before their eyes as an example, and laying up for themselves from what concerns me what concerns them, will render their supplications to you and will run to you.
1:7217
This psalm too has a subject similar to the one before it.
1:7218
For he prays to be delivered from those who persecute him, as the Apostle says.
1:7219
這些事作為預表,發生在古時的人身上;
These things happened as a type to the men of old;
1:7220
but they were written for our admonition.
1:7221
One must know that the prayer is referred to the person of humanity, being persecuted and afflicted by Satan who has gained the advantage over it, from whom it also prays to be delivered through the coming of the Only-begotten.
1:7222
Lord, hear my prayer.
1:7223

I ask, he says, to be heard through your truth.
1:7224

Be attentive to me, by sending your Only-begotten, who is truth and righteousness.
1:7225

He speaks of the morning resurrection of the Lord;
1:7233
or perhaps he also prays for the morning resurrection of Christ to come to pass, through which we are shown mercy.
1:7234

who teaches my hands for battle.

By 'hands' he means the deeds done according to godliness, through which we war against Satan.

Man has become like vanity.
1:7242
Each of men has become like this world.
1:7243
Flash forth lightning, and you will scatter them.
1:7244
By 'lightning' he means the evangelical proclamation.

whose mouth has spoken vanities.
1:7248

And these would be the alienated sons, who also speak vain things.
1:7251
And what vain things, but this — to say to Christ:
1:7252

but those according to the spirit are humbled.
