📖 This chapter exists in 3 other originals — side by side (Hebrew Old Testament, Vulgate, Ge'ez Bible)
ℹ️ This corpus has no verse-level morphological tagging. Lemmas come mainly from word-level tagging of other books in the same language (not from this verse), falling back to dictionary form-matching for the rest. Rare homographs can still be misread; verify against the original and a specialist lexicon where precision matters.
ℹ️ The Chinese and English alongside are this site's own translation, made directly from the original text on this page (not the CUV or the WEB, which follow the Masoretic Text and a different textual tradition).

2:1
And the Lord ordered a great sea monster to swallow Jonah; and Jonah was in the belly of the sea monster three days and three nights.
And Jonah prayed to the Lord his God from the belly of the sea monster.
And he said: I cried out in my affliction to the Lord my God, and he listened to me; out of the belly of Hades came my cry, you heard my voice.
You cast me into the depths of the heart of the sea, and rivers surrounded me; all your surges and your waves passed over me.
And I said: I have been driven away from your eyes; shall I ever again look toward your holy temple?
Water was poured around me up to my soul; the lowest abyss surrounded me; my head sank into the clefts of the mountains.
I went down into the earth, whose bars are everlasting barriers; yet let the corruption of my life come up, O Lord my God.
When my soul was failing within me, I remembered the Lord; and may my prayer come to you, into your holy temple.
Those who cling to vain and false things have forsaken their own mercy.
But I, with a voice of praise and thanksgiving, will sacrifice to you; whatever I have vowed I will pay to you, for deliverance to the Lord.
And the sea monster was ordered, and it cast Jonah out onto the dry land.
