μὴ διαμάχου μετὰ ἀνθρώπου δυνάστου μήποτε ἐμπέσῃς εἰς τὰς χεῖρας αὐτοῦ
Non litiges cum homine potente, ne forte incidas in manus illius.
ወኢትትገአዝ፡ ምስለ፡ ዐበይተ፡ ሰብእ፡ ከመ፡ ኢትደቅ፡ ውስተ፡ እዴሆሙ።
Contend not with a mighty man, Lest haply you fall into his hands.
8:2
μὴ ἔριζε μετὰ ἀνθρώπου πλουσίου μήποτε ἀντιστήσῃ σου τὴν ὁλκήν πολλοὺς γὰρ ἀπώλεσεν τὸ χρυσίον καὶ καρδίας βασιλέων ἐξέκλινεν
Non contendas cum viro locuplete, ne forte contra te constituat litem tibi :
ወኢትትቀሐው፡ ምስለ፡ ዘይብዕለከ፡ ከመ፡ በብዕሉ፡ ኢይማእከ፡ እስመ፡ ብዙኃን፡ ተሀጕሉ፡ እንበይነ፡ ወርቅ፡ ቀይሕ፡ ወገመጾሙ፡ ልቦሙ፡ ለነገሥት።
Strive not with a rich man, lest haply he overweigh you: For gold has destroyed many, And turned away the hearts of kings.
8:3
μὴ διαμάχου μετὰ ἀνθρώπου γλωσσώδους καὶ μὴ ἐπιστοιβάσῃς ἐπὶ τὸ πῦρ αὐτοῦ ξύλα
multos enim perdidit aurum et argentum, et usque ad cor regum extendit et convertit.
ወኢትትላኰይ፡ ምስለ፡ ብእሲ፡ ነባቢ፡ ወእመ፡ አኮሰ፡ ወጣሕከ፡ ዕፀወ፡ ዲበ፡ እሳተ።
Contend not with a man that is full of tongue, And heap not wood upon his fire.
8:4
μὴ πρόσπαιζε ἀπαιδεύτῳ ἵνα μὴ ἀτιμάζωνται οἱ πρόγονοί σου
Non litiges cum homine linguato, et non strues in ignem illius ligna.
ኢትሥሐቅ፡ ወኢትሣለቅ፡ ምስለ፡ አብድ፡ ከመ፡ ኢታኅሥር፡ አዝማዲከ።
Jest not with a rude man, Lest your ancestors be dishonored.
8:5
μὴ ὀνείδιζε ἄνθρωπον ἀποστρέφοντα ἀπὸ ἁμαρτίας μνήσθητι ὅτι πάντες ἐσμὲν ἐν ἐπιτίμοις
Non communices homini indocto, ne male de progenie tua loquatur.
ወኢትትሀበቦ፡ ለዘይትጋነይ፡ በእንተ፡ ጌጋዩ፡ ተዘከር፡ ከመ፡ ኵልነ፡ ኃጥኣን፡ ንሕነ።
Reproach not a man when he turns from sin: Remember that we are all worthy of punishment.
8:6
μὴ ἀτιμάσῃς ἄνθρωπον ἐν γήρᾳ αὐτοῦ καὶ γὰρ ἐξ ἡμῶν γηράσκουσιν
Ne despicias hominem avertentem se a peccato, neque improperes ei : memento quoniam omnes in correptione sumus.
ወኢታስተአክዮ፡ ለሰብእ፡ በርሥዓቲሁ፡ እስመ፡ እምውስቴትነሂ፡ ቦ፡ ዘይረሥዕ።
Dishonour not a man in his old age; For some of us also are waxing old.
8:7
μὴ ἐπίχαιρε ἐπὶ νεκρῷ μνήσθητι ὅτι πάντες τελευτῶμεν
Ne spernas hominem in sua senectute, etenim ex nobis senescunt.
ኢትትፌሣሕ፡ ላዕለ፡ ዘሞተ፡ ተዘከር፡ ከመ፡ ኵልነ፡ ንመውት።
Rejoice not over one that is dead: Remember that we die all.
8:8
μὴ παρίδῃς διήγημα σοφῶν καὶ ἐν ταῖς παροιμίαις αὐτῶν ἀναστρέφου ὅτι παρ’ αὐτῶν μαθήσῃ παιδείαν καὶ λειτουργῆσαι μεγιστᾶσιν
Noli de mortuo inimico tuo gaudere : sciens quoniam omnes morimur, et in gaudium nolumus venire.
ኢታስትት፡ ነገረ፡ ጠቢባን፡ ወተመሀር፡ አምሳሊሆሙ፡ እስመ፡ በኀቤሆሙ፡ ትረክባ፡ ለጥበብ፡ ወተፀመድ፡ መኳንንተ።
Neglect not the discourse of the wise, And be conversant with their proverbs; For of them you will learn instruction, And how to minister to great men.
8:9
μὴ ἀστόχει διηγήματος γερόντων καὶ γὰρ αὐτοὶ ἔμαθον παρὰ τῶν πατέρων αὐτῶν ὅτι παρ’ αὐτῶν μαθήσῃ σύνεσιν καὶ ἐν καιρῷ χρείας δοῦναι ἀπόκρισιν
Ne despicias narrationem presbyterorum sapientium, et in proverbiis eorum conversare :
ወዕቀብ፡ ተግሣጾሙ፡ ለአእሩግ፡ እስመ፡ እሙንቱሂ፡ በኀበ፡ አበዊሆሙ፡ ተምህሩ፡ ወአንተሂ፡ በኀቤሆሙ፡ ትመሀር፡ ወትረክብ፡ ዘትነብብ፡ በጊዜ፡ ትካዝከ፡ ወተአምር፡ ዘታወሥእ።
Miss not the discourse of the aged; For they also learned of their fathers: Because from them you will learn understanding, And to give answer in time of need.
8:10
μὴ ἔκκαιε ἄνθρακας ἁμαρτωλοῦ μὴ ἐμπυρισθῇς ἐν πυρὶ φλογὸς αὐτοῦ
ab ipsis enim disces sapientiam et doctrinam intellectus, et servire magnatis sine querela.
ኢትሱጥ፡ እሳቶሙ፡ ለኃጥኣን፡ ከመ፡ ኢተዐይ፡ በነዶሙ።
Kindle not the coals of a sinner, Lest you be burned with the flame of his fire.
8:11
μὴ ἐξαναστῇς ἀπὸ προσώπου ὑβριστοῦ ἵνα μὴ ἐγκαθίσῃ ὡς ἔνεδρον τῷ στόματί σου
Non te prætereat narratio seniorum, ipsi enim didicerunt a patribus suis :
ኢትትዋሣእ፡ በኀበ፡ ጸላኢ፡ ጸዓሊ፡ ከመ፡ ኢያስሕትከ፡ በቃለ፡ አፉሁ።
Rise not up from the presence of an insolent man, Lest he lie in wait as an ambush for your mouth.
8:12
μὴ δανείσῃς ἀνθρώπῳ ἰσχυροτέρῳ σου καὶ ἐὰν δανείσῃς ὡς ἀπολωλεκὼς γίνου
quoniam ab ipsis disces intellectum, et in tempore necessitatis dare responsum.
ወኢትለቅሖ፡ ለዘይብዕለከ፡ ወለእመሰ፡ ለቃሕካሁ፡ ረሲ፡ ከመ፡ ዘሀጐልከ።
Lend not to a man that is mightier than yourself; And if you lend, be as one that has lost.
8:13
μὴ ἐγγυήσῃ ὑπὲρ δύναμίν σου καὶ ἐὰν ἐγγυήσῃ ὡς ἀποτείσων φρόντιζε
Non incendas carbones peccatorum arguens eos, et ne incendaris flamma ignis peccatorum illorum.
ኢትትሐበዮ፡ ለዘይጸንዐከ፡ ወለእመሰ፡ ተሐበይካሁ፡ ኀሊ፡ እንከ፡ ዘከመ፡ ትፈዲ፡ ለሊከ።
Be not surety above your power: And if you be surety, take thought as one that will have to pay.
8:14
μὴ δικάζου μετὰ κριτοῦ κατὰ γὰρ τὴν δόξαν αὐτοῦ κρινοῦσιν αὐτῷ
Ne contra faciem stes contumeliosi, ne sedeat quasi insidiator ori tuo.
ኢትሳነን፡ ምስለ፡ መኰንን፡ እስመ፡ በከመ፡ ክብሩ፡ ያገብኡ፡ ሎቱ፡ ፍትሐ።
Go not to law with a judge; For according to his honor will they give judgement for him.
8:15
μετὰ τολμηροῦ μὴ πορεύου ἐν ὁδῷ ἵνα μὴ βαρύνηται κατὰ σοῦ αὐτὸς γὰρ κατὰ τὸ θέλημα αὐτοῦ ποιήσει καὶ τῇ ἀφροσύνῃ αὐτοῦ συναπολῇ
Noli fœnerari homini fortiori te : quod si fœneraveris, quasi perditum habe.
ምስለ፡ መስተኀብል፡ ኢትኅበር፡ መንገደ፡ ከመ፡ ኢይትመዐዕ፡ ላዕሌከ፡ እስመ፡ ውእቱሰ፡ ዘፈተወ፡ ልቡ፡ ይገብር፡ ወትመውት፡ አንተ፡ በእበደ፡ ዚኣሁ።
Go not in the way with a rash man, Lest he be aggrieved with you; For he will do according to his own will, And you will perish with his folly.
8:16
μετὰ θυμώδους μὴ ποιήσῃς μάχην καὶ μὴ διαπορεύου μετ’ αὐτοῦ τὴν ἔρημον ὅτι ὡς οὐδὲν ἐν ὀφθαλμοῖς αὐτοῦ αἷμα καὶ ὅπου οὐκ ἔστιν βοήθεια καταβαλεῖ σε
Non spondeas super virtutem tuam : quod si spoponderis, quasi restituens cogita.
ወኢትትገአዝ፡ ምስለ፡ መዐትም፡ ወኢትፃእ፡ ሐቅለ፡ ምስሌሁ፡ እስመ፡ ከመ፡ ወኢ፡ ምንት፡ ክዒወ፡ ደም፡ በኀበ፡ ዐይኑ፡ ወበኀበ፡ አልቦ፡ ረድኤት፡ ይወስደከ።
Fight not with a wrathful man, And travel not with him through the desert: For blood is as nothing in his sight; And where there is no help, he will overthrow you.
8:17
μετὰ μωροῦ μὴ συμβουλεύου οὐ γὰρ δυνήσεται λόγον στέξαι
Non judices contra judicem, quoniam secundum quod justum est judicat.
ወኢትትማከር፡ ምስለ፡ አብድ፡ እስመ፡ ኢይክል፡ ዐቂበ፡ ነገር፡ ዘሰምዐ።
Take not counsel with a fool; For he will not be able to conceal the matter.
8:18
ἐνώπιον ἀλλοτρίου μὴ ποιήσῃς κρυπτόν οὐ γὰρ γινώσκεις τί τέξεται
Cum audace non eas in via, ne forte gravet mala sua in te : ipse enim secundum voluntatem suam vadit, et simul cum stultitia illius peries.
ኢትንግር፡ ቅድመ፡ ነኪር፡ ትካዘከ፡ እስመ፡ ኢተአምር፡ እፎ፡ ይበጽሐከ።
Do no secret thing before a stranger; For you know not what he will bring forth.
8:19
παντὶ ἀνθρώπῳ μὴ ἔκφαινε σὴν καρδίαν καὶ μὴ ἀναφερέτω σοι χάριν
Cum iracundo non facias rixam, et cum audace non eas in desertum : quoniam quasi nihil est ante illum sanguis, et ubi non est adjutorium, elidet te.
ኢትክሥት፡ ለኵሉ፡ ሰብእ፡ ዘውስተ፡ ልብከ፡ ከመ፡ ኢይኩንከ፡ ህጉለ፡ ዕሴትከ።
Open not your heart to every man; And let him not return you a favor.
