29:1
ὁ ποιῶν ἔλεος δανιεῖ τῷ πλησίον καὶ ὁ ἐπισχύων τῇ χειρὶ αὐτοῦ τηρεῖ ἐντολάς
Qui facit misericordiam fœneratur proximo suo : et qui prævalet manu mandata servat.
ዘይገብር፡ ምጽዋተ፡ ይሌቅሖ፡ ለቢጹ፡ ወዘኒ፡ የአክል፡ ውስተ፡ እዴሁ፡ ይገብር፡ ትእዛዞ።
He that shows mercy will lend to his neighbor; And he that strengthens him with his hand keeps the commandments.
29:2
δάνεισον τῷ πλησίον ἐν καιρῷ χρείας αὐτοῦ καὶ πάλιν ἀπόδος τῷ πλησίον εἰς τὸν καιρόν
Fœnerare proximo tuo in tempore necessitatis illius : et iterum redde proximo in tempore suo.
ለቅሖ፡ ለቢጽከ፡ አመ፡ ተጽናሱ፡ ከመ፡ ትደለው፡ ምስሌሁ፡ አመ፡ ተድላሁ።
Lend to your neighbor in time of his need; And pay you your neighbor again in due season.
29:3
στερέωσον λόγον καὶ πιστώθητι μετ’ αὐτοῦ καὶ ἐν παντὶ καιρῷ εὑρήσεις τὴν χρείαν σου
Confirma verbum, et fideliter age cum illo : et in omni tempore invenies quod tibi necessarium est.
ዕቀብ፡ ነገረከ፡ ወተአመን፡ ምስሌሁ፡ ወእንተ፡ ሶበ፡ ፈቀድከ፡ ትረክቦ፡ ለጽድቅከ።
Confirm your word, and keep faith with him; And at all seasons you shall find what you need.
29:4
πολλοὶ ὡς εὕρεμα ἐνόμισαν δάνος καὶ παρέσχον κόπον τοῖς βοηθήσασιν αὐτοῖς
Multi quasi inventionem æstimaverunt fœnus, et præstiterunt molestiam his qui se adjuverunt.
ብዙኃን፡ እለ፡ ይመስሎሙ፡ ከመ፡ ዘውስተ፡ ምድር፡ ዘረከብዎ፡ ለንዋየ፡ ልቃሕ፡ ወአስርሕዎሙ፡ ለእለ፡ (ለቅሖሙ፡ እለ)፡ ረድእዎሙ፡ (እለ፡ ምንዳቤሆሙ)።
Many have reckoned a loan as a windfall, And have given trouble to those that helped them.
29:5
ἕως οὗ λάβῃ καταφιλήσει χεῖρας αὐτοῦ καὶ ἐπὶ τῶν χρημάτων τοῦ πλησίον ταπεινώσει φωνήν καὶ ἐν καιρῷ ἀποδόσεως παρελκύσει χρόνον καὶ ἀποδώσει λόγους ἀκηδίας καὶ τὸν καιρὸν αἰτιάσεται
Donec accipiant, osculantur manus dantis, et in promissionibus humiliant vocem suam :
እስከ፡ ይትሌቃሕ፡ ይስዕመከ፡ ርእሰከ፡ ወያደክም፡ ቃሎ፡ ወይየውሀከ፡ እስከ፡ ይነሥእ፡ ንዋየከ። ወአመ፡ ትትፈደዮ፡ ያነውኅ፡ ለከ፡ ዕድሜከ፡ ወየዐስየከ፡ ቅሥተ፡ ወተስናነ፡ በንዋይከ፡ ወያቴክት፡ (ወያስተኀልፍ)፡ ዕድሜከ።
Till he has received, he will kiss a man’s hands; And for his neighbor’s money he will speak submissly: And when payment is due, he will prolong the time, And return words of heaviness, and complain of the times.
29:6
ἐὰν ἰσχύσῃ μόλις κομίσεται τὸ ἥμισυ καὶ λογιεῖται αὐτὸ ὡς εὕρεμα εἰ δὲ μή ἀπεστέρησεν αὐτὸν τῶν χρημάτων αὐτοῦ καὶ ἐκτήσατο αὐτὸν ἐχθρὸν δωρεάν κατάρας καὶ λοιδορίας ἀποδώσει αὐτῷ καὶ ἀντὶ δόξης ἀποδώσει αὐτῷ ἀτιμίαν
et in tempore redditionis postulabit tempus, et loquetur verba tædii et murmurationum, et tempus causabitur.
እምዕጹብ፡ መንፈቆ፡ ለእመ፡ ፈደየከ፡ ወዓዲ፡ ኪያሁኒ፡ ይመስለከ፡ ከመ፡ ዘበዲበ፡ ምድር፡ ረከብከ። ወእመ፡ አልቦሰ፡ ተሀጕል፡ ወዓዲ፡ ጸላኤ፡ ይከውነከ፡ ወመርገመ፡ ወጽዕለተ፡ የዐስየከ፡ ወያኀስረከ፡ ዘእምአክበረከ።
If he prevail, he shall hardly receive the half; And he will count it as a windfall: If not, he has deprived him of his money, And he has gotten him for an enemy without cause: He will pay him with cursings and railings; And for honor he will pay him disgrace.
29:7
πολλοὶ οὐ χάριν πονηρίας ἀπέστρεψαν ἀποστερηθῆναι δωρεὰν εὐλαβήθησαν
Si autem potuerit reddere, adversabitur : solidi vix reddet dimidium, et computabit illud quasi inventionem :
ወብዙኃን፡ እለ፡ ኢይሌቅሑ፡ በኢፈቂደ፡ ጻሕብ፡ ወበፈሪሀ፡ ኢይህጐሉ፡ ወከመ፡ ኢይጸልኡ።
Many on account of men’s ill-dealing have turned away; They have feared to be defrauded for nothing.
29:8
πλὴν ἐπὶ ταπεινῷ μακροθύμησον καὶ ἐπ’ ἐλεημοσύνῃ μὴ παρελκύσῃς αὐτόν
sin autem, fraudabit illum pecunia sua, et possidebit illum inimicum gratis :
ወባሕቱ፡ ለነዳይሰ፡ ተዐገሦ፡ ወምጽዋተኒ፡ ኢታኅልፎ።
Howbeit with a man in poor estate be longsuffering; And let him not wait for your alms.
29:9
χάριν ἐντολῆς ἀντιλαβοῦ πένητος καὶ κατὰ τὴν ἔνδειαν αὐτοῦ μὴ ἀποστρέψῃς αὐτὸν κενόν
et convitia et maledicta reddet illi, et pro honore et beneficio reddet illi contumeliam.
እንበይነ፡ ምጽዋት፡ ተወከፎ፡ ለነዳይ፡ ወእስመ፡ ጽኑስ፡ ውእቱ፡ ኢታውጽኦ፡ ዕራቆ።
Help a poor man for the commandment’s sake; And according to his need send him not empty away.
29:10
ἀπόλεσον ἀργύριον δῑ ἀδελφὸν καὶ φίλον καὶ μὴ ἰωθήτω ὑπὸ τὸν λίθον εἰς ἀπώλειαν
Multi non causa nequitiæ non fœnerati sunt, sed fraudari gratis timuerunt.
ህጐል፡ ወርቀከ፡ እምትህጐል፡ ዐርከከ፡ ወቢጸከ፡ ወእምይዝሐልውስተ፡ መድፍን፡ ወይትሀጐል፡ ታሕተ፡ እብን።
Lose your money for a brother and a friend; And let it not rust under the stone to be lost.
29:11
θὲς τὸν θησαυρόν σου κατ’ ἐντολὰς ὑψίστου καὶ λυσιτελήσει σοι μᾶλλον ἢ τὸ χρυσίον
Verumtamen super humilem animo fortior esto, et pro eleemosyna non trahas illum.
አስተዋጽኦ፡ ለመድፍንከ፡ በእንተ፡ ትእዛዙ፡ ለልዑል፡ ወይረብሐከ፡ ፈድፋደ፡ እመዛግብተ፡ ወርቅ።
Bestow your treasure according to the commandments of the Most High; And it shall profit you more than gold.
29:12
σύγκλεισον ἐλεημοσύνην ἐν τοῖς ταμιείοις σου καὶ αὕτη ἐξελεῖταί σε ἐκ πάσης κακώσεως
Propter mandatum assume pauperem, et propter inopiam ejus ne dimittas eum vacuum.
ዝግባ፡ ለምጽዋት፡ ውስተ፡ አብያቲከ፡ ወይእቲ፡ ትኄይስ፡ አድኅኖተከ፡ እምነ፡ ኵሉ፡ ምንዳቤከ።
Shut up alms in your store-chambers; And it shall deliver you out of all affliction:
29:13
ὑπὲρ ἀσπίδα κράτους καὶ ὑπὲρ δόρυ ὁλκῆς κατέναντι ἐχθροῦ πολεμήσει ὑπὲρ σοῦ
Perde pecuniam propter fratrem et amicum tuum, et non abscondas illam sub lapide in perditionem.
እመኒ፡ በኲናት፡ በንዋየ፡ ሐቅል፡ ትበድር፡ ይእቲ፡ (ወትመውእ፡ ለከ፡ ጸላኤከ)፡ ወትትቃተል፡ ለከ፡ ፀረከ።
It shall fight for you against your enemy Better than a mighty shield and a ponderous spear.
29:14
ἀνὴρ ἀγαθὸς ἐγγυήσεται τὸν πλησίον καὶ ὁ ἀπολωλεκὼς αἰσχύνην ἐγκαταλείψει αὐτόν
Pone thesaurum tuum in præceptis Altissimi, et proderit tibi magis quam aurum.
ብእሲሰ፡ ኄር፡ ይትሐበዮ፡ ለዐርኩ፡ ወዘኢየኀፍር፡ ይትዔወር።
A good man will be surety for his neighbor; And he that has lost shame will fail him.
29:15
χάριτας ἐγγύου μὴ ἐπιλάθῃ ἔδωκεν γὰρ τὴν ψυχὴν αὐτοῦ ὑπὲρ σοῦ
Conclude eleemosynam in corde pauperis, et hæc pro te exorabit ab omni malo.
ዕሴቶ፡ ለዘ፡ ተሐበየከ፡ ኢትርሳዕ፡ ሎቱ፡ እስመ፡ መጠወ፡ ነፍሶ፡ ህየንቴከ።
Forget not the good offices of your surety; For he has given his life for you.
29:16
ἀγαθὰ ἐγγύου ἀνατρέψει ἁμαρτωλός καὶ ἀχάριστος ἐν διανοίᾳ ἐγκαταλείψει ῥυσάμενον
Super scutum potentis
ሠናይ፡ ተሐበዮ፡ ለአጥፍኦ፡ እኩይ።
A sinner will overthrow the good estate of his surety;
29:17
ἐγγύη πολλοὺς ἀπώλεσεν κατευθύνοντας καὶ ἐσάλευσεν αὐτοὺς ὡς κῦμα θαλάσσης
et super lanceam
ወኃጥእሰ፡ ይረስዕ፡ ዕሴተ፡ ዘአድኀኖ።
And he that is of an unthankful mind will fail him that delivered him.
29:18
ἄνδρας δυνατοὺς ἀπῴκισεν καὶ ἐπλανήθησαν ἐν ἔθνεσιν ἀλλοτρίοις
adversus inimicum tuum pugnabit.
ብዙኃነ፡ ኄራነ፡ አሕመሞሙ፡ ተሐበዮ፡ ወሆኮሙ፡ ከመ፡ ማዕበለ፡ ባሕር፡ ወአስሐቶሙ፡ ለዕደው፡ ጽኑዓን፡ ወውስተ፡ አሕዛበ፡ ባዕድ፡ አፍለሶሙ።
Suretiship has undone many that were prospering, And shaken them as a wave of the sea: Mighty men has it driven from their homes; And they wandered among strange nations.
29:19
ἁμαρτωλὸς ἐμπεσὼν εἰς ἐγγύην καὶ διώκων ἐργολαβίας ἐμπεσεῖται εἰς κρίσεις
Vir bonus fidem facit pro proximo suo : et qui perdiderit confusionem derelinquet sibi.
ኃጥእሰ፡ ይትመነሶ፡ በሕቢት፡ ወዘይሤሥዕ፡ በረባሕ፡ ይወድቅ፡ ውስተ፡ መንሱት።
A sinner that falls into suretiship, And undertakes contracts for work, shall fall into lawsuits.
29:20
ἀντιλαβοῦ τοῦ πλησίον κατὰ δύναμίν σου καὶ πρόσεχε σεαυτῷ μὴ ἐμπέσῃς
Gratiam fidejussoris ne obliviscaris : dedit enim pro te animam suam.
ተወከፍ፡ ቢጸከ፡ በአምጣነ፡ ኀይልከ፡ ወተዐቀብ፡ ርእሰከ፡ ኢያስሕትከ።
Help your neighbor according to your power, And take heed to yourself that you fall not to the same.
29:21
ἀρχὴ ζωῆς ὕδωρ καὶ ἄρτος καὶ ἱμάτιον καὶ οἶκος καλύπτων ἀσχημοσύνην
Repromissorem fugit peccator et immundus.
ቀዳሜ፡ ሕይወትከ፡ እክል፡ ወማይ፡ ወልብስ፡ ወቤት(ከሰ)፡ ኀበ፡ ትሴውር፡ ኀፍረተከ።
The chief thing for life is water, and bread, And a garment, and a house to cover shame.
29:22
κρείσσων βίος πτωχοῦ ὑπὸ σκέπην δοκῶν ἢ ἐδέσματα λαμπρὰ ἐν ἀλλοτρίοις
Bona repromissoris sibi ascribit peccator : et ingratus sensu derelinquet liberantem se.
ይኄይስ፡ ትጸነስ፡ በታሕተ፡ ሠርዌ፡ ቤትከ፡ እምትደለው፡ ወትትፈጋዕ፡ በቤተ፡ ባዕድ፡ በንዋየ፡ ነኪር።
Better is the life of a poor man under a shelter of logs, Than sumptuous fare in another man’s house.
29:23
ἐπὶ μικρῷ καὶ μεγάλῳ εὐδοκίαν ἔχε καὶ ὀνειδισμὸν παροικίας οὐ μὴ ἀκούσῃς
Vir repromittit de proximo suo : et cum perdiderit reverentiam, derelinquetur ab eo.
ለንኡስኒ፡ ወለዐቢይኒ፡ አሠኒ፡ ግዕዘከ፡ ወቃለከ።
With little or with much, be well satisfied.
29:24
ζωὴ πονηρὰ ἐξ οἰκίας εἰς οἰκίαν καὶ οὗ παροικήσεις οὐκ ἀνοίξεις στόμα
Repromissio nequissima multos perdidit dirigentes, et commovit illos quasi fluctus maris.
እኩይ፡ ሕይወቱ፡ ለዘይትፋለስ፡ እምቤት፡ ቤተ፡ ወኀበ፡ ኀደርከ፡ ዑቅ፡ ኢታሕሥም፡ አፉከ።
It is a miserable life to go from house to house: And where you are a sojourner, you shall not dare to open your mouth.
29:25
ξενιεῖς καὶ ποτιεῖς εἰς ἀχάριστα καὶ πρὸς ἐπὶ τούτοις πικρὰ ἀκούσῃ
Viros potentes gyrans migrare fecit, et vagati sunt in gentibus alienis.
ወእመ፡ አኮሰ፡ ታበልዕኒ፡ ወታሰቲኒ፡ ወአኰቴተ፡ አልብከ፡ ወምስለ፡ ኵሉዝ፡ መራር፡ ያውሥኡከ።
You shall entertain, and give to drink, and have no thanks: And besides this you shall hear bitter words.
29:26
πάρελθε πάροικε κόσμησον τράπεζαν καὶ εἴ τι ἐν τῇ χειρί σου ψώμισόν με
Peccator transgrediens mandatum Domini incidet in promissionem nequam : et qui conatur multa agere incidet in judicium.
ወአመሰ፡ ትዴለው፡ ይብሉከ፡ ባእ፡ ኀዳሪነ፡ ሥራዕ፡ ማእደ፡ ወአብልዐነ፡ ዘብከ።
Come hither, you sojourner, furnish a table, And if you have anything in your hand, feed me with it.
29:27
ἔξελθε πάροικε ἀπὸ προσώπου δόξης ἐπεξένωταί μοι ὁ ἀδελφός χρεία τῆς οἰκίας
Recupera proximum secundum virtutem tuam, et attende tibi ne incidas.
ወእምከመ፡ ተጸነስከ፡ ይብሉከ፡ ፃእ፡ ኀዳሪነ፡ በጽሐ፡ ማኅፈርነ፡ ንፈቅድ፡ ቤተነ።
Go forth, you sojourner, from the face of honor; My brother is come to be my guest; I have need of my house.
29:28
βαρέα ταῦτα ἀνθρώπῳ ἔχοντι φρόνησιν ἐπιτίμησις οἰκίας καὶ ὀνειδισμὸς δανειστοῦ
Initium vitæ hominis, aqua et panis, et vestimentum, et domus protegens turpitudinem.
ዕጹብ፡ ዝነገር፡ በኀበ፡ ብእሲ፡ ጠቢብ፡ ያኀስረከ፡ ዘአኅደ[ረ]ከ፡ ወይዘረክየከ፡ ዘለ[ቅሐ]ከ።
These things are grievous to a man of understanding; The upbraiding of house-room, and the reproaching of the money-lender.
