3:1 ⧉ ⤴︎ וַתֹּ֥אמֶר לָ֖הּ נׇעֳמִ֣י חֲמוֹתָ֑הּ בִּתִּ֕י הֲלֹ֧א אֲבַקֶּשׁ ־לָ֛ךְ מָנ֖וֹחַ אֲשֶׁ֥ר יִֽיטַב ־לָֽךְ ׃
εἶπεν δὲ αὐτῇ Νωεμιν ἡ πενθερὰ αὐτῆς θύγατερ οὐ μὴ ζητήσω σοι ἀνάπαυσιν ἵνα εὖ γένηταί σοι
Postquam autem reversa est ad socrum suam , audivit ab ea : Filia mea , quaeram tibi requiem , et providebo ut bene sit tibi .
ወትቤላ ፡ ኖሔሚን ፡ ሐማታ ፡ ወለትየ ፡ ኢየኀሥሥኑ ፡ ለኪ ፡ ዕረፍተ ፡ ከመ ፡ ትሠኒ ፡ ላዕሌኪ ።
Naomi her mother-in-law said to her, “My daughter, shall I not seek rest for you, that it may be well with you?
3:2 ⧉ ⤴︎ וְעַתָּ֗ה הֲלֹ֥א בֹ֙עַז֙ מֹֽדַעְתָּ֔נוּ אֲשֶׁ֥ר הָיִ֖ית אֶת ־נַעֲרוֹתָ֑יו הִנֵּה ־ה֗וּא זֹרֶ֛ה אֶת ־גֹּ֥רֶן הַשְּׂעֹרִ֖ים הַלָּֽיְלָה ׃
καὶ νῦν οὐχὶ Βοος γνώριμος ἡμῶν οὗ ἦς μετὰ τῶν κορασίων αὐτοῦ ἰδοὺ αὐτὸς λικμᾷ τὸν ἅλωνα τῶν κριθῶν ταύτῃ τῇ νυκτί
Booz iste , cujus puellis in agro juncta es , propinquus noster est , et hac nocte aream hordei ventilat .
ወይእዜኒ ፡ አኮኑ ፡ ቦዖስ ፡ ማእምርነ ፡ ዘምስለ ፡ አዋልዲሁ ፡ ሀሎኪ ፡ ናሁ ፡ ውእቱ ፡ ይገብር ፡ ውስተ ፡ ዐውደ ፡ እክሉ ፡ ዮም ፡ በዛቲ ፡ ሌሊት ።
Now isn’t Boaz our kinsman, with whose maidens you were? Behold, he will be winnowing barley tonight on the threshing floor.
3:3 ⧉ ⤴︎ וְרָחַ֣צְתְּ ׀ וָסַ֗כְתְּ וְשַׂ֧מְתְּ (שמלתך ) [שִׂמְלֹתַ֛יִךְ ] עָלַ֖יִךְ (וירדתי ) [וְיָרַ֣דְתְּ ] הַגֹּ֑רֶן אַל ־תִּוָּדְעִ֣י לָאִ֔ישׁ עַ֥ד כַּלֹּת֖וֹ לֶאֱכֹ֥ל וְלִשְׁתּֽוֹת ׃
σὺ δὲ λούσῃ καὶ ἀλείψῃ καὶ περιθήσεις τὸν ἱματισμόν σου ἐπὶ σεαυτῇ καὶ ἀναβήσῃ ἐπὶ τὸν ἅλω μὴ γνωρισθῇς τῷ ἀνδρὶ ἕως οὗ συντελέσαι αὐτὸν πιεῖν καὶ φαγεῖν
Lavare igitur , et ungere , et induere cultioribus vestimentis , et descende in aream : non te videat homo , donec esum potumque finierit .
ወአንቲሰ ፡ ተኀፀቢ ፡ ወተቀብኢ ፡ ወተለበሲ ፡ አልባሰኪ ፡ ወሑሪ ፡ ኀበ ፡ ዐውደ ፡ እክሉ ፡ ወአልቦ ፡ ሰብእ ፡ ዘይርአይኪ ፡ እስከ ፡ የኀልቅ ፡ በሊዐ ፡ ወሰትየ ።
Therefore wash yourself, anoint yourself, get dressed, and go down to the threshing floor; but don’t make yourself known to the man until he has finished eating and drinking.
3:4 ⧉ ⤴︎ וִיהִ֣י בְשׇׁכְב֗וֹ וְיָדַ֙עַתְּ֙ אֶת ־הַמָּקוֹם֙ אֲשֶׁ֣ר יִשְׁכַּב ־שָׁ֔ם וּבָ֛את וְגִלִּ֥ית מַרְגְּלֹתָ֖יו (ושכבתי ) [וְשָׁכָ֑בְתְּ ] וְהוּא֙ יַגִּ֣יד לָ֔ךְ אֵ֖ת אֲשֶׁ֥ר תַּעֲשִֽׂין ׃
καὶ ἔσται ἐν τῷ κοιμηθῆναι αὐτόν καὶ γνώσῃ τὸν τόπον ὅπου κοιμᾶται ἐκεῖ καὶ ἐλεύσῃ καὶ ἀποκαλύψεις τὰ πρὸς ποδῶν αὐτοῦ καὶ κοιμηθήσῃ καὶ αὐτὸς ἀπαγγελεῖ σοι ἃ ποιήσεις
Quando autem ierit ad dormiendum , nota locum in quo dormiat : veniesque et discooperies pallium , quo operitur a parte pedum , et projicies te , et ibi jacebis : ipse autem dicet quid agere debeas .
ወሶበ ፡ ሰክበ ፡ አእምርዮ ፡ መካኖ ፡ ኀበ ፡ ኖመ ፡ ህየ ፡ ወሑሪ ፡ ወክሥቲ ፡ ኀበ ፡ እገሪሁ ፡ ወስክቢ ፡ ወውእቱ ፡ ለሊሁ ፡ ይኤዝዘኪ ፡ ዘከመ ፡ ትገብሪ ።
It shall be, when he lies down, that you shall note the place where he is lying. Then you shall go in, uncover his feet, and lie down. Then he will tell you what to do.”
3:5 ⧉ ⤴︎ וַתֹּ֖אמֶר אֵלֶ֑יהָ כֹּ֛ל אֲשֶׁר ־תֹּאמְרִ֥י [אֵלַ֖י ] אֶעֱשֶֽׂה ׃
εἶπεν δὲ Ρουθ πρὸς αὐτήν πάντα ὅσα ἐὰν εἴπῃς ποιήσω
Quae respondit : Quidquid praeceperis , faciam .
ወትቤላ ፡ ሩት ፡ ኵሎ ፡ ዘከመ ፡ ትቤልኒ ፡ እገብር ።
She said to her, “All that you say, I will do.”
3:6 ⧉ ⤴︎ וַתֵּ֖רֶד הַגֹּ֑רֶן וַתַּ֕עַשׂ כְּכֹ֥ל אֲשֶׁר ־צִוַּ֖תָּה חֲמוֹתָֽהּ ׃
καὶ κατέβη εἰς τὸν ἅλω καὶ ἐποίησεν κατὰ πάντα ὅσα ἐνετείλατο αὐτῇ ἡ πενθερὰ αὐτῆς
Descenditque in aream , et fecit omnia quae sibi imperaverat socrus .
ወወረደት ፡ ኀበ ፡ ዐውደ ፡ እክል ፡ ወገብረት ፡ ኵሎ ፡ ዘከመ ፡ አዘዘታ ፡ ሐማታ ።
She went down to the threshing floor, and did everything that her mother-in-law told her.
3:7 ⧉ ⤴︎ וַיֹּ֨אכַל בֹּ֤עַז וַיֵּשְׁתְּ֙ וַיִּיטַ֣ב לִבּ֔וֹ וַיָּבֹ֕א לִשְׁכַּ֖ב בִּקְצֵ֣ה הָעֲרֵמָ֑ה וַתָּבֹ֣א בַלָּ֔ט וַתְּגַ֥ל מַרְגְּלֹתָ֖יו וַתִּשְׁכָּֽב ׃
καὶ ἔφαγεν Βοος καὶ ἠγαθύνθη ἡ καρδία αὐτοῦ καὶ ἦλθεν κοιμηθῆναι ἐν μερίδι τῆς στοιβῆς ἡ δὲ ἦλθεν κρυφῇ καὶ ἀπεκάλυψεν τὰ πρὸς ποδῶν αὐτοῦ
Cumque comedisset Booz , et bibisset , et factus esset hilarior , issetque ad dormiendum juxta acervum manipulorum , venit abscondite , et discooperto pallio , a pedibus ejus se projecit .
ወበልዐ ፡ ቦዖስ ፡ ወተፈሥሐ ፡ ልቡ ፡ ወሖረ ፡ ወሰክበ ፡ ኀበ ፡ ክምር ፡ ወመጽአት ፡ ጽምሚተ ፡ ወከሠተት ፡ ኀበ ፡ እገሪሁ ፡ ወሰከበት ።
When Boaz had eaten and drunk, and his heart was merry, he went to lie down at the end of the heap of grain. She came softly, uncovered his feet, and lay down.
3:8 ⧉ ⤴︎ וַֽיְהִי֙ בַּחֲצִ֣י הַלַּ֔יְלָה וַיֶּחֱרַ֥ד הָאִ֖ישׁ וַיִּלָּפֵ֑ת וְהִנֵּ֣ה אִשָּׁ֔ה שֹׁכֶ֖בֶת מַרְגְּלֹתָֽיו ׃
ἐγένετο δὲ ἐν τῷ μεσονυκτίῳ καὶ ἐξέστη ὁ ἀνὴρ καὶ ἐταράχθη καὶ ἰδοὺ γυνὴ κοιμᾶται πρὸς ποδῶν αὐτοῦ
Et ecce , nocte jam media expavit homo , et conturbatus est : viditque mulierem jacentem ad pedes suos ,
ወመንፈቀ ፡ ሌሊት ፡ ከዊኖ ፡ ነቅሀ ፡ ብእሲ ፡ ወደንገፀ ፡ ወረከበ ፡ ብእሲተ ፡ ኀበ ፡ እገሪሁ ።
At midnight, the man was startled and turned himself; and behold, a woman lay at his feet.
3:9 ⧉ ⤴︎ וַיֹּ֖אמֶר מִי ־אָ֑תְּ וַתֹּ֗אמֶר אָֽנֹכִי֙ ר֣וּת אֲמָתֶ֔ךָ וּפָרַשְׂתָּ֤ כְנָפֶ֙ךָ֙ עַל ־אֲמָ֣תְךָ֔ כִּ֥י גֹאֵ֖ל אָֽתָּה ׃
εἶπεν δέ τίς εἶ σύ ἡ δὲ εἶπεν ἐγώ εἰμι Ρουθ ἡ δούλη σου καὶ περιβαλεῖς τὸ πτερύγιόν σου ἐπὶ τὴν δούλην σου ὅτι ἀγχιστεὺς εἶ σύ
et ait illi : Quae es ? Illaque respondit : Ego sum Ruth ancilla tua : expande pallium tuum super famulam tuam , quia propinquus es .
ወይቤላ ፡ መኑ ፡ አንቲ ፡ ወትቤሎ ፡ አነ ፡ ሩት ፡ አመትከ ፡ ወክድነኒ ፡ ጽንፈ ፡ ልብስከ ፡ እስመ ፡ መስተሐምው ፡ አንተ ።
He said, “Who are you?” She answered, “I am Ruth your servant. Therefore spread the corner of your garment over your servant; for you are a near kinsman.”
3:10 ⧉ ⤴︎ וַיֹּ֗אמֶר בְּרוּכָ֨ה אַ֤תְּ לַֽיהֹוָה֙ בִּתִּ֔י הֵיטַ֛בְתְּ חַסְדֵּ֥ךְ הָאַחֲר֖וֹן מִן ־הָרִאשׁ֑וֹן לְבִלְתִּי ־לֶ֗כֶת אַֽחֲרֵי֙ הַבַּ֣חוּרִ֔ים אִם ־דַּ֖ל וְאִם ־עָשִֽׁיר ׃
καὶ εἶπεν Βοος εὐλογημένη σὺ τῷ κυρίῳ θεῷ θύγατερ ὅτι ἠγάθυνας τὸ ἔλεός σου τὸ ἔσχατον ὑπὲρ τὸ πρῶτον τὸ μὴ πορευθῆναί σε ὀπίσω νεανιῶν εἴτοι πτωχὸς εἴτοι πλούσιος
Et ille : Benedicta , inquit , es a Domino , filia , et priorem misericordiam posteriore superasti : quia non est secuta juvenes , pauperes sive divites .
ወይቤላ ፡ ቦዖስ ፡ ቡርክት ፡ አንቲ ፡ ለእግዚአብሔር ፡ ወለትየ ፡ እስመ ፡ ኀየሰት ፡ ምሕረት ፡ ደኃሪት ፡ እምነ ፡ ቀዳሚትኪ ፡ ዘኢሖርኪ ፡ ወኢተለውኪ ፡ አቀልዳተ ፡ እለ ፡ ነዳያት ፡ ወኢለአብዕልት ።
He said, “You are blessed by Yahweh, my daughter. You have shown more kindness in the latter end than at the beginning, because you didn’t follow young men, whether poor or rich.
3:11 ⧉ ⤴︎ וְעַתָּ֗ה בִּתִּי֙ אַל ־תִּ֣ירְאִ֔י כֹּ֥ל אֲשֶׁר ־תֹּאמְרִ֖י אֶעֱשֶׂה ־לָּ֑ךְ כִּ֤י יוֹדֵ֙עַ֙ כׇּל ־שַׁ֣עַר עַמִּ֔י כִּ֛י אֵ֥שֶׁת חַ֖יִל אָֽתְּ ׃
καὶ νῦν θύγατερ μὴ φοβοῦ πάντα ὅσα ἐὰν εἴπῃς ποιήσω σοι οἶδεν γὰρ πᾶσα φυλὴ λαοῦ μου ὅτι γυνὴ δυνάμεως εἶ σύ
Noli ergo metuere , sed quidquid dixeris mihi , faciam tibi . Scit enim omnis populus , qui habitat intra portas urbis meae , mulierem te esse virtutis .
ወይእዜኒ ፡ ወለትየ ፡ ኢትፍርሂ ፡ ኵሎ ፡ ዘትቤሊ ፡ እገብር ፡ ለኪ ፡ ወያአምር ፡ ኵሉ ፡ ነገደ ፡ ሕዝብየ ፡ ከመ ፡ ብእሲተ ፡ ኀይሎሙ ፡ አንቲ ፡ ወከመ ፡ መስተሐምው ፡ አነ ።
Now, my daughter, don’t be afraid. I will do to you all that you say; for all the city of my people knows that you are a worthy woman.
3:12 ⧉ ⤴︎ וְעַתָּה֙ כִּ֣י אׇמְנָ֔ם כִּ֥י (אם ) גֹאֵ֖ל אָנֹ֑כִי וְגַ֛ם יֵ֥שׁ גֹּאֵ֖ל קָר֥וֹב מִמֶּֽנִּי ׃
καὶ ὅτι ἀληθῶς ἀγχιστεὺς ἐγώ εἰμι καί γε ἔστιν ἀγχιστεὺς ἐγγίων ὑπὲρ ἐμέ
Nec abnuo me propinquum , sed est alius me propinquior .
ወባሕቱ ፡ ቦ ፡ መስተሐምወ ፡ ዘይቀርብ ፡ እምኔየ ።
Now it is true that I am a near kinsman. However, there is a kinsman nearer than I.
3:13 ⧉ ⤴︎ לִ֣ינִי ׀ הַלַּ֗יְלָה וְהָיָ֤ה בַבֹּ֙קֶר֙ אִם ־יִגְאָלֵ֥ךְ טוֹב֙ יִגְאָ֔ל וְאִם ־לֹ֨א יַחְפֹּ֧ץ לְגׇאֳלֵ֛ךְ וּגְאַלְתִּ֥יךְ אָנֹ֖כִי חַי ־יְהֹוָ֑ה שִׁכְבִ֖י עַד ־הַבֹּֽקֶר ׃
αὐλίσθητι τὴν νύκτα καὶ ἔσται τὸ πρωί ἐὰν ἀγχιστεύσῃ σε ἀγαθόν ἀγχιστευέτω ἐὰν δὲ μὴ βούληται ἀγχιστεῦσαί σε ἀγχιστεύσω σε ἐγώ ζῇ κύριος κοιμήθητι ἕως πρωί
Quiesce hac nocte : et facto mane , si te voluerit propinquitatis jure retinere , bene res acta est : sin autem ille noluerit , ego te absque ulla dubitatione suscipiam , vivit Dominus . Dormi usque mane .
ቢቲ ፡ ዛተ ፡ ሌሊተ ፡ ወሶበ ፡ ጸብሐ ፡ ለእመ ፡ ተሐመወ ፡ ሠናይ ፡ ለይትሐመውኪ ፡ ውእቱ ፡ ወእመሰ ፡ ኢፈቀደ ፡ ይትሐሞ ፡ ውእቱ ፡ ሕያው ፡ እግዚአብሔር ፡ ከመ ፡ አነ ፡ እትሐመወኪ ፡ ወቢቲ ፡ እስከ ፡ ይጸብሕ ።
Stay this night, and in the morning, if he will perform for you the part of a kinsman, good. Let him do the kinsman’s duty. But if he will not do the duty of a kinsman for you, then I will do the duty of a kinsman for you, as Yahweh lives. Lie down until the morning.”
3:14 ⧉ ⤴︎ וַתִּשְׁכַּ֤ב מַרְגְּלוֹתָו֙ עַד ־הַבֹּ֔קֶר וַתָּ֕קׇם (בטרום ) [בְּטֶ֛רֶם ] יַכִּ֥יר אִ֖ישׁ אֶת ־רֵעֵ֑הוּ וַיֹּ֙אמֶר֙ אַל ־יִוָּדַ֔ע כִּי ־בָ֥אָה הָאִשָּׁ֖ה הַגֹּֽרֶן ׃
καὶ ἐκοιμήθη πρὸς ποδῶν αὐτοῦ ἕως πρωί ἡ δὲ ἀνέστη πρὸ τοῦ ἐπιγνῶναι ἄνδρα τὸν πλησίον αὐτοῦ καὶ εἶπεν Βοος μὴ γνωσθήτω ὅτι ἦλθεν γυνὴ εἰς τὸν ἅλωνα
Dormivit itaque ad pedes ejus , usque ad noctis abscessum . Surrexit itaque antequam homines se cognoscerent mutuo , et dixit Booz : Cave ne quis noverit quod huc veneris .
ወቤተት ፡ ኀበ ፡ እገሪሁ ፡ እስከ ፡ ይጸብሕ ፡ ወተንሥአት ፡ እንበለ ፡ ይትራአይ ፡ ሰብእ ፡ ወይቤ ፡ ቦዖስ ፡ አልቦ ፡ ዘያአምር ፡ ከመ ፡ መጽአት ፡ ብእሲት ፡ ኀበ ፡ ዐውደ ፡ እክል ።
She lay at his feet until the morning, then she rose up before one could discern another. For he said, “Let it not be known that the woman came to the threshing floor.”
3:15 ⧉ ⤴︎ וַיֹּ֗אמֶר הָ֠בִ֠י הַמִּטְפַּ֧חַת אֲשֶׁר ־עָלַ֛יִךְ וְאֶחֳזִי ־בָ֖הּ וַתֹּ֣אחֶז בָּ֑הּ וַיָּ֤מׇד שֵׁשׁ ־שְׂעֹרִים֙ וַיָּ֣שֶׁת עָלֶ֔יהָ וַיָּבֹ֖א הָעִֽיר ׃
καὶ εἶπεν αὐτῇ φέρε τὸ περίζωμα τὸ ἐπάνω σου καὶ ἐκράτησεν αὐτό καὶ ἐμέτρησεν ἓξ κριθῶν καὶ ἐπέθηκεν ἐπ’ αὐτήν καὶ εἰσῆλθεν εἰς τὴν πόλιν
Et rursum : Expande , inquit , pallium tuum , quo operiris , et tene utraque manu . Qua extendente , et tenente , mensus est sex modios hordei , et posuit super eam . Quae portans ingressa est civitatem ,
ወይቤላ ፡ አምጽኢ ፡ ልብሰ ፡ ዘላዕሌኪ ፡ ወአኀዘ ፡ ወሰፈረ ፡ ውስቴቱ ፡ ስድሰ ፡ እክለ ፡ ስገም ፡ ወአጾራ ፡ ወቦአት ፡ ውስተ ፡ ሀገር ።
He said, “Bring the mantle that is on you, and hold it.” She held it; and he measured six measures of barley, and laid it on her; then he went into the city.
3:16 ⧉ ⤴︎ וַתָּבוֹא֙ אֶל ־חֲמוֹתָ֔הּ וַתֹּ֖אמֶר מִי ־אַ֣תְּ בִּתִּ֑י וַתַּ֨גֶּד ־לָ֔הּ אֵ֛ת כׇּל ־אֲשֶׁ֥ר עָשָׂה ־לָ֖הּ הָאִֽישׁ ׃
καὶ Ρουθ εἰσῆλθεν πρὸς τὴν πενθερὰν αὐτῆς ἡ δὲ εἶπεν τίς εἶ θύγατερ καὶ εἶπεν αὐτῇ πάντα ὅσα ἐποίησεν αὐτῇ ὁ ἀνήρ
et venit ad socrum suam . Quae dixit ei : Quid egisti , filia ? Narravitque ei omnia , quae sibi fecisset homo .
ወአተወት ፡ ሩት ፡ ኀበ ፡ ሐማታ ፡ ወትቤላ ፡ ምንት ፡ ዝንቱ ፡ ወለትየ ፡ ወአይድዐታ ፡ ኵሎ ፡ ዘከመ ፡ ገብረ ፡ ላቲ ፡ ውእቱ ፡ ብእሲ ።
When she came to her mother-in-law, she said, “How did it go, my daughter?” She told her all that the man had done for her.
3:17 ⧉ ⤴︎ וַתֹּ֕אמֶר שֵׁשׁ ־הַשְּׂעֹרִ֥ים הָאֵ֖לֶּה נָ֣תַן לִ֑י כִּ֚י אָמַ֣ר [אֵלַ֔י ] אַל ־תָּב֥וֹאִי רֵיקָ֖ם אֶל ־חֲמוֹתֵֽךְ ׃
καὶ εἶπεν αὐτῇ τὰ ἓξ τῶν κριθῶν ταῦτα ἔδωκέν μοι ὅτι εἶπεν πρός με μὴ εἰσέλθῃς κενὴ πρὸς τὴν πενθεράν σου
Et ait : Ecce sex modios hordei dedit mihi , et ait : Nolo vacuam te reverti ad socrum tuam .
ወትቤላ ፡ እላንተ ፡ ስድሰ ፡ እክለ ፡ ስገም ፡ ወሀበኒ ፡ እስመ ፡ ይቤለኒ ፡ ኢትእትዊ ፡ ዕራቅኪ ፡ ኀበ ፡ ሐማትኪ ።
She said, “He gave me these six measures of barley; for he said, ‘Don’t go empty to your mother-in-law.’”
3:18 ⧉ ⤴︎ וַתֹּ֙אמֶר֙ שְׁבִ֣י בִתִּ֔י עַ֚ד אֲשֶׁ֣ר תֵּֽדְעִ֔ין אֵ֖יךְ יִפֹּ֣ל דָּבָ֑ר כִּ֣י לֹ֤א יִשְׁקֹט֙ הָאִ֔ישׁ כִּֽי ־אִם ־כִּלָּ֥ה הַדָּבָ֖ר הַיּֽוֹם ׃
ἡ δὲ εἶπεν κάθου θύγατερ ἕως τοῦ ἐπιγνῶναί σε πῶς οὐ πεσεῖται ῥῆμα οὐ γὰρ μὴ ἡσυχάσῃ ὁ ἀνήρ ἕως ἂν τελέσῃ τὸ ῥῆμα σήμερον
Dixitque Noëmi : Expecta , filia , donec videamus quem res exitum habeat : neque enim cessabit homo , nisi compleverit quod locutus est .
ወትቤላ ፡ ንበሪ ፡ ወለትየ ፡ እስከ ፡ ትሬእዪ ፡ ከመ ፡ ኢይስ [ሕ ]ት ፡ ቃልየ ፡ እስመ ፡ ኢያረምም ፡ ውእቱ ፡ ብእሲ ፡ ወኢያዐርፍ ፡ ዮም ፡ እስከ ፡ ይገብሮ ፡ ለዝንቱ ፡ ነገር ።
Then she said, “Wait, my daughter, until you know what will happen; for the man will not rest until he has settled this today.”
