Psalms 12 — 4 originals side by side

Versification differs between traditions. Columns are aligned by verse number; where a text has no such verse the cell is left blank rather than forced into line. Tap any word for a gloss.

⚠️ The Chinese and English alongside are the CUV and the WEB, both translated from the Masoretic Text; they follow a different textual tradition from the Greek and Latin shown here and will disagree in places.
ℹ️ Some verses here have no matching verse in the public-domain translations (the Psalm superscriptions are not numbered verses in the CUV or the WEB). Those verses were translated by this site with AI (Claude), not taken from the WEB.

לַמְנַצֵּ֥חַ עַֽל־הַשְּׁמִינִ֗ית מִזְמ֥וֹר לְדָוִֽד׃
εἰς τὸ τέλος ὑπὲρ τῆς ὀγδόης ψαλμὸς τῷ Δαυιδ
In finem, pro octava. Psalmus David.
—
For the Chief Musician; upon the eight-stringed lyre. A Psalm by David.
12:1
הוֹשִׁ֣יעָה יְ֭הֹוָה כִּֽי־גָמַ֣ר חָסִ֑יד כִּי־פַ֥סּוּ אֱ֝מוּנִ֗ים מִבְּנֵ֥י אָדָֽם׃
σῶσόν με κύριε ὅτι ἐκλέλοιπεν ὅσιος ὅτι ὠλιγώθησαν αἱ ἀλήθειαι ἀπὸ τῶν υἱῶν τῶν ἀνθρώπων
Salvum me fac, Domine, quoniam defecit sanctus, quoniam diminutae sunt veritates a filiis hominum.
—
Help, Yahweh; for the godly man ceases. For the faithful fail from among the children of men.
12:2
Everyone lies to his neighbor. They speak with flattering lips, and with a double heart.
12:3
יַכְרֵ֣ת יְ֭הֹוָה כׇּל־שִׂפְתֵ֣י חֲלָק֑וֹת לָ֝שׁ֗וֹן מְדַבֶּ֥רֶת גְּדֹלֽוֹת׃
ἐξολεθρεύσαι κύριος πάντα τὰ χείλη τὰ δόλια καὶ γλῶσσαν μεγαλορήμονα
Disperdat Dominus universa labia dolosa, et linguam magniloquam.
ከንቶ ፡ ይትናገሩ ፡ አሐዱ ፡ ምስለ ፡ ካልኡ ፤ በከናፍረ ፡ ጕሕሉት ፡ በልብ ፡ ወበልብ ፡ ይትናገሩ ።
May Yahweh cut off all flattering lips, and the tongue that boasts,
12:4
Qui dixerunt : Linguam nostram magnificabimus ; labia nostra a nobis sunt. Quis noster dominus est ?
ይሤርዎን ፡ እግዚአብሔር ፡ ለከናፍረ ፡ ጕሕሉት ፤ ወለልሳን ፡ እንተ ፡ ታዐቢ ነቢበ ።
who have said, “With our tongue we will prevail. Our lips are our own. Who is lord over us?”
12:5
Propter miseriam inopum, et gemitum pauperum, nunc exsurgam, dicit Dominus. Ponam in salutari ; fiducialiter agam in eo.

“Because of the oppression of the weak and because of the groaning of the needy, I will now arise,” says Yahweh; “I will set him in safety from those who malign him.”
12:6
אִ֥מְר֣וֹת יְהֹוָה֮ אֲמָר֢וֹת טְהֹ֫ר֥וֹת כֶּ֣סֶף צָ֭רוּף בַּעֲלִ֣יל לָאָ֑רֶץ מְ֝זֻקָּ֗ק שִׁבְעָתָֽיִם׃

Yahweh’s words are flawless words, as silver refined in a clay furnace, purified seven times.
12:7
אַתָּֽה־יְהֹוָ֥ה תִּשְׁמְרֵ֑ם תִּצְּרֶ֓נּוּ׀ מִן־הַדּ֖וֹר ז֣וּ לְעוֹלָֽם׃
σύ κύριε φυλάξεις ἡμᾶς καὶ διατηρήσεις ἡμᾶς ἀπὸ τῆς γενεᾶς ταύτης καὶ εἰς τὸν αἰῶνα
Tu, Domine, servabis nos, et custodies nos a generatione hac in aeternum.
እሬሲ ፡ መድኀኒተ ፡ ወእግህድ ፡ ቦቱ ።
You will keep them, Yahweh. You will preserve them from this generation forever.
12:8
סָבִ֗יב רְשָׁעִ֥ים יִתְהַלָּכ֑וּן כְּרֻ֥ם זֻ֝לּ֗וּת לִבְנֵ֥י אָדָֽם׃ {פ}
κύκλῳ οἱ ἀσεβεῖς περιπατοῦσιν κατὰ τὸ ὕψος σου ἐπολυώρησας τοὺς υἱοὺς τῶν ἀνθρώπων
In circuitu impii ambulant : secundum altitudinem tuam multiplicasti filios hominum.

The wicked walk on every side, when what is vile is exalted among the sons of men.
