23:1
Τότε ὁ Ἰησοῦς ἐλάλησεν τοῖς ὄχλοις καὶ τοῖς μαθηταῖς αὐτοῦ
Tunc Jesus locutus est ad turbas, et ad discipulos suos,
ወእምዝ ነገሮሙ እግዚእ ኢየሱስ ለሕዝብ ወለአርዳእሁ እንዘ ይብል።
Then Jesus spoke to the multitudes and to his disciples,
23:2
λέγων, ἐπὶ τῆς Μωϋσέως καθέδρας ἐκάθισαν οἱ γραμματεῖς καὶ οἱ Φαρισαῖοι.
dicens : Super cathedram Moysi sederunt scribae et pharisaei.
ዲበ መንበረ ሙሴ ነበሩ ለክሙ ጸሐፍት ወፈሪሳውያን።
saying, “The scribes and the Pharisees sit on Moses’ seat.
23:3
πάντα οὖν ὅσα ἐὰν εἴπωσιν ὑμῖν ποιήσατε καὶ τηρεῖτε, κατὰ δὲ τὰ ἔργα αὐτῶν μὴ ποιεῖτε· λέγουσιν γὰρ καὶ οὐ ποιοῦσιν.
Omnia ergo quaecumque dixerint vobis, servate, et facite : secundum opera vero eorum nolite facere : dicunt enim, et non faciunt.
ኵሎ ዘመሀሩክሙ ግበሩ ወዕቀቡ ወዘከመ ምግባሮሙሰ ኢትግበሩ እስመ እሙንቱ ዘይሜህሩ ለሰብእ ኢይገብሩ።
All things therefore whatever they tell you to observe, observe and do, but don’t do their works; for they say, and don’t do.
23:4
δεσμεύουσιν δὲ φορτία βαρέα καὶ ἐπιτιθέασιν ἐπὶ τοὺς ὤμους τῶν ἀνθρώπων, αὐτοὶ δὲ τῷ δακτύλῳ αὐτῶν οὐ θέλουσιν κινῆσαι αὐτά.
Alligant enim onera gravia, et importabilia, et imponunt in humeros hominum : digito autem suo nolunt ea movere.
ወየአስሩ ጾረ ዐቢየ ወክቡደ ወያሰክምዎ ለሰብእ ዲበ መትከፍቱ ወለሊሆሙሰ ኢይለክፍዎ ጥቀ በአጽባዕቶሙ።
For they bind heavy burdens that are grievous to be borne, and lay them on men’s shoulders; but they themselves will not lift a finger to help them.
23:5
πάντα δὲ τὰ ἔργα αὐτῶν ποιοῦσιν πρὸς τὸ θεαθῆναι τοῖς ἀνθρώποις· πλατύνουσιν γὰρ τὰ φυλακτήρια αὐτῶν καὶ μεγαλύνουσιν τὰ κράσπεδα,
Omnia vero opera sua faciunt ut videantur ab hominibus : dilatant enim phylacteria sua, et magnificant fimbrias.
ወኵሎ ምግባሮሙ ዘይገብሩ ለዐይነ ሰብእ ይገብሩ ወይሰፍሑ ኵርበታቲሆሙ ወያዐብዩ አዝፋረ አልባሲሆሙ።
But they do all their works to be seen by men. They make their phylacteries broad and enlarge the fringes of their garments,
23:6
φιλοῦσιν δὲ τὴν πρωτοκλισίαν ἐν τοῖς δείπνοις καὶ τὰς πρωτοκαθεδρίας ἐν ταῖς συναγωγαῖς
Amant autem primos recubitus in coenis, et primas cathedras in synagogis,
ወያፈቅሩ ርእሰ ምርፋቃት በውስተ ምሳሐት ወነቢረ ፍጽም በውስተ አዕዋዳት።
and love the place of honor at feasts, the best seats in the synagogues,
23:7
καὶ τοὺς ἀσπασμοὺς ἐν ταῖς ἀγοραῖς καὶ καλεῖσθαι ὑπὸ τῶν ἀνθρώπων, ῥαββεί.
et salutationes in foro, et vocari ab hominibus Rabbi.
ወተአምኆ በውስተ ምሥያጣት ከመ ይበሎሙ ሰብእ መምህራነ።
the salutations in the marketplaces, and to be called ‘Rabbi, Rabbi’ by men.
23:8
ὑμεῖς δὲ μὴ κληθῆτε, ῥαββεί, εἷς γάρ ἐστιν ὑμῶν ὁ διδάσκαλος, πάντες δὲ ὑμεῖς ἀδελφοί ἐστε.
Vos autem nolite vocari Rabbi : unus est enim magister vester, omnes autem vos fratres estis.
አንትሙሰኬ ኢትሰመዩ መምህረ በዲበ ምድር እስመ አሐዱ ውእቱ መምህርክሙ ወአንትሙሰ አኀው ኵልክሙ።
But you are not to be called ‘Rabbi’, for one is your teacher, the Christ, and all of you are brothers.
23:9
καὶ πατέρα μὴ καλέσητε ὑμῶν ἐπὶ τῆς γῆς· εἷς γάρ ἐστιν ὑμῶν ὁ πατὴρ ὁ οὐράνιος.
Et patrem nolite vocare vobis super terram : unus est enim pater vester qui in caelis est.
ወኢትረስዩ አበ በዲበ ምድር እስመ አሐዱ ውእቱ አቡክሙ ሰማያዊ።
Call no man on the earth your father, for one is your Father, he who is in heaven.
23:10
μηδὲ κληθῆτε καθηγηταί, ὅτι καθηγητὴς ὑμῶν ἐστιν εἷς ὁ Χριστός.
Nec vocemini magistri : quia magister vester unus est, Christus.
ወኢትስምዩ እግዚአ በዲበ ምድር እስመ አሐዱ ውእቱ እግዚእክሙ ክርስቶስ።
Neither be called masters, for one is your master, the Christ.
23:11
ὁ δὲ μείζων ὑμῶν ἔσται ὑμῶν διάκονος.
Qui major est vestrum, erit minister vester.
ወባሕቱ ዘይልህቀክሙ ይኩንክሙ ላእከ።
But he who is greatest among you will be your servant.
23:12
ὅστις δὲ ὑψώσει ἑαυτὸν ταπεινωθήσεται, καὶ ὅστις ταπεινώσει ἑαυτὸν ὑψωθήσεται.
Qui autem se exaltaverit, humiliabitur : et qui se humiliaverit, exaltabitur.
እስመ ዘአዕበየ ርእሶ የኀሥር ወዘአትሐተ ርእሶ ይከብር።
Whoever exalts himself will be humbled, and whoever humbles himself will be exalted.
23:13
Οὐαὶ δὲ ὑμῖν, γραμματεῖς καὶ Φαρισαῖοι ὑποκριταί, ὅτι κλείετε τὴν βασιλείαν τῶν οὐρανῶν ἔμπροσθεν τῶν ἀνθρώπων· ὑμεῖς γὰρ οὐκ εἰσέρχεσθε, οὐδὲ τοὺς εἰσερχομένους ἀφίετε εἰσελθεῖν.
Vae autem vobis scribae et pharisaei hypocritae, quia clauditis regnum caelorum ante homines ! vos enim non intratis, nec introëuntes sinitis intrare.
አሌ ለክሙ ጸሐፍት ወፈሪሳውያን መደልዋን እስመ ትበልዑ አብያተ መበለታት በምክንያተ አንኆ ጸሎትክሙ ወበእንተ ዝንቱ ትረክቡ ኵነኔ ፈድፋደ።
“Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you devour widows’ houses, and as a pretense you make long prayers. Therefore you will receive greater condemnation.
23:14—
Vae vobis scribae et pharisaei hypocritae, quia comeditis domos viduarum, orationes longas orantes ! propter hoc amplius accipietis judicium.
አሌ ለክሙ ጸሐፍት ወፈሪሳውያን መደልዋን እስመ ተዐጽዉ መንግሥተ ሰማያት ቅድመ ገጹ ለሰብእ አንትሙሂ ኢትበውኡ ወለእለሂ ይበውኡ ትከልእዎሙ በዊአ።
“But woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! Because you shut up the Kingdom of Heaven against men; for you don’t enter in yourselves, neither do you allow those who are entering in to enter.
23:15
οὐαὶ ὑμῖν, γραμματεῖς καὶ Φαρισαῖοι ὑποκριταί, ὅτι περιάγετε τὴν θάλασσαν καὶ τὴν ξηρὰν ποιῆσαι ἕνα προσήλυτον, καὶ ὅταν γένηται, ποιεῖτε αὐτὸν υἱὸν γεέννης διπλότερον ὑμῶν.
Vae vobis scribae et pharisaei hypocritae, quia circuitis mare, et aridam, ut faciatis unum proselytum, et cum fuerit factus, facitis eum filium gehennae duplo quam vos.
አሌ ለክሙ ጸሐፍት፥ ወፈሪሳውያን መደልዋን እስመ ተዐውዱ ባሕረ ወየብሰ ከመ ታጥምቁ አሐደ ፈላሴ ወተጠሚቆ ትሬስይዎ ካዕበተክሙ ወልደ ገሃነም።
Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you travel around by sea and land to make one proselyte; and when he becomes one, you make him twice as much a son of Gehenna as yourselves.
23:16
οὐαὶ ὑμῖν, ὁδηγοὶ τυφλοὶ οἱ λέγοντες· ὃς ἂν ὀμόσῃ ἐν τῷ ναῷ, οὐδέν ἐστιν· ὃς δ’ ἂν ὀμόσῃ ἐν τῷ χρυσῷ τοῦ ναοῦ ὀφείλει.
Vae vobis duces caeci, qui dicitis : Quicumque juraverit per templum, nihil est : qui autem juraverit in auro templi, debet.
አሌ ለክሙ ጸሐፍት ወፈሪሳውያን አምርሕተ ዕዉራን እለ ትብሉ ዘመሐለ በቤተ መቅደስ ኢይጌጊ ወዘሰ መሐለ በወርቀ ቤተ መቅደስ ይጌጊ።
“Woe to you, you blind guides, who say, ‘Whoever swears by the temple, it is nothing; but whoever swears by the gold of the temple, he is obligated.’
23:17
μωροὶ καὶ τυφλοί, τίς γὰρ μείζων ἐστίν, ὁ χρυσὸς ἢ ὁ ναὸς ὁ ἁγιάσας τὸν χρυσόν;
Stulti et caeci : quid enim majus est ? aurum, an templum, quod sanctificat aurum ?
ኦ አብዳን ወዕዉራን አይኑ የዐቢ ወርቅኑ ወሚመ ቤተ መቅደስ አኮኑ ቤተ መቅደስ ዘይቄድሶ ለወርቅ።
You blind fools! For which is greater, the gold or the temple that sanctifies the gold?
23:18
καί· ὃς ἂν ὀμόσῃ ἐν τῷ θυσιαστηρίῳ, οὐδέν ἐστιν· ὃς δ’ ἂν ὀμόσῃ ἐν τῷ δώρῳ τῷ ἐπάνω αὐτοῦ ὀφείλει.
Et quicumque juraverit in altari, nihil est : quicumque autem juraverit in dono, quod est super illud, debet.
ዘሰ መሐለ በምሥዋዕ ኢይጌጊ ትብሉ ወዘሰ መሐለ በጽንሓሕ ዘላዕሌሁ ይጌጊ ትብሉ።
And, ‘Whoever swears by the altar, it is nothing; but whoever swears by the gift that is on it, he is obligated.’
23:19
τυφλοί, τί γὰρ μεῖζον, τὸ δῶρον ἢ τὸ θυσιαστήριον τὸ ἁγιάζον τὸ δῶρον;
Caeci : quid enim majus est, donum, an altare, quod sanctificat donum ?
ኦ አብዳን ወዕዉራን አይኑ የዐቢ ጽንሓሕኑ ወሚመ ምሥዋዕ አኮኑ ምሥዋዕ ዘይቄድሶ ለውእቱ ጽንሓሕ።
You blind fools! For which is greater, the gift, or the altar that sanctifies the gift?
23:20
ὁ οὖν ὀμόσας ἐν τῷ θυσιαστηρίῳ ὀμνύει ἐν αὐτῷ καὶ ἐν πᾶσιν τοῖς ἐπάνω αὐτοῦ·
Qui ergo jurat in altari, jurat in eo, et in omnibus quae super illud sunt.
ዘሰኬ መሐለ በምሥዋዕ መሐለ ቦቱ ወበኵሉ ዘይነብር ዲቤሁ።
He therefore who swears by the altar, swears by it and by everything on it.
23:21
καὶ ὁ ὀμόσας ἐν τῷ ναῷ ὀμνύει ἐν αὐτῷ καὶ ἐν τῷ κατοικοῦντι αὐτόν·
Et quicumque juraverit in templo, jurat in illo, et in eo qui habitat in ipso :
ወዘሂ መሐለ በቤተ መቅደስ መሐለ ቦቱ ወበኵሉ ዘይነብር ውስቴቱ።
He who swears by the temple, swears by it and by him who has been living in it.
23:22
καὶ ὁ ὀμόσας ἐν τῷ οὐρανῷ ὀμνύει ἐν τῷ θρόνῳ τοῦ θεοῦ καὶ ἐν τῷ καθημένῳ ἐπάνω αὐτοῦ.
et qui jurat in caelo, jurat in throno Dei, et in eo qui sedet super eum.
ወዘሂ መሐለ በሰማይ መሐለ በመንበሩ ለእግዚአብሔር ወበዘይነብር ዲቤሁ።
He who swears by heaven, swears by the throne of God and by him who sits on it.
23:23
οὐαὶ ὑμῖν, γραμματεῖς καὶ Φαρισαῖοι ὑποκριταί, ὅτι ἀποδεκατοῦτε τὸ ἡδύοσμον καὶ τὸ ἄνηθον καὶ τὸ κύμινον, καὶ ἀφήκατε τὰ βαρύτερα τοῦ νόμου, τὴν κρίσιν καὶ τὸ ἔλεος καὶ τὴν πίστιν· ταῦτα ἔδει ποιῆσαι κἀκεῖνα μὴ ἀφεῖναι.
Vae vobis scribae et pharisaei hypocritae, qui decimatis mentham, et anethum, et cyminum, et reliquistis quae graviora sunt legis, judicium, et misericordiam, et fidem ! haec oportuit facere, et illa non omittere.
አሌ ለክሙ ጸሐፍት ወፈሪሳውያን መደልዋን እለ ታበውኡ ዐሥራተ እዴሁ ለአዛብ ወለሲላን ወለከሙን ወኀደግሙ ዘየዐቢ ትእዛዛተ ኦሪት ፍትሐ ወጽድቀ ወሃይማኖተ ዘኒ መፍትው ትግበሩ ወዝክተኒ ኢትኅድጉ።
“Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you tithe mint, dill, and cumin, and have left undone the weightier matters of the law: justice, mercy, and faith. But you ought to have done these, and not to have left the other undone.
23:24
ὁδηγοὶ τυφλοί, οἱ διϋλίζοντες τὸν κώνωπα τὴν δὲ κάμηλον καταπίνοντες.
Duces caeci, excolantes culicem, camelum autem glutientes.
አምርሕተ ዕዉራን እለ ጻጹተ ትነጥፉ ወገመለሰ ትውኅጡ።
You blind guides, who strain out a gnat, and swallow a camel!
23:25
οὐαὶ ὑμῖν, γραμματεῖς καὶ Φαρισαῖοι ὑποκριταί, ὅτι καθαρίζετε τὸ ἔξωθεν τοῦ ποτηρίου καὶ τῆς παροψίδος, ἔσωθεν δὲ γέμουσιν ἐξ ἁρπαγῆς καὶ ἀκρασίας.
Vae vobis scribae et pharisaei hypocritae, quia mundatis quod deforis est calicis et paropsidis ; intus autem pleni estis rapina et immunditia !
አሌ ለክሙ ጸሐፍት ወፈሪሳውያን መደልዋን እለ ተኀፅብዎ ለጽዋዕ ወለጻሕል እንተ አፍኣሁ ወውስጡሰ ምሉእ ሀዪደ ወዐመፃ ወትዕግልተ።
“Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you clean the outside of the cup and of the platter, but within they are full of extortion and unrighteousness.
23:26
Φαρισαῖε τυφλέ, καθάρισον πρῶτον τὸ ἐντὸς τοῦ ποτηρίου, ἵνα γένηται καὶ τὸ ἐκτὸς αὐτοῦ καθαρόν.
Pharisaee caece, munda prius quod intus est calicis, et paropsidis, ut fiat id, quod deforis est, mundum.
ኦ ፈሪሳዊ ዕዉር ቅድመ ኅፅቦ ለጽዋዕ፥ ወለጻሕል እንተ ውስጡ፥ ከመ ይኩን ንጹሐ እንተ አፍኣሁኒ።
You blind Pharisee, first clean the inside of the cup and of the platter, that its outside may become clean also.
23:27
οὐαὶ ὑμῖν, γραμματεῖς καὶ Φαρισαῖοι ὑποκριταί, ὅτι παρομοιάζετε τάφοις κεκονιαμένοις, οἵτινες ἔξωθεν μὲν φαίνονται ὡραῖοι ἔσωθεν δὲ γέμουσιν ὀστέων νεκρῶν καὶ πάσης ἀκαθαρσίας.
Vae vobis scribae et pharisaei hypocritae, quia similes estis sepulchris dealbatis, quae a foris parent hominibus speciosa, intus vero pleni sunt ossibus mortuorum, et omni spurcitia !
አሌ ለክሙ ጸሐፍት ወፈሪሳውያን መደልዋን እለ ትመስሉ መቃብራተ ግብሱሳነ እለ እንተ አፍኣሆሙ ያስተርእዩ ሠናያነ ወእንተ ውስጦሙሰ ምሉኣን አዕፅምተ ወአብድንተ ወኵሎ ርኵሰ።
“Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you are like whitened tombs, which outwardly appear beautiful, but inwardly are full of dead men’s bones and of all uncleanness.
23:28
οὕτως καὶ ὑμεῖς ἔξωθεν μὲν φαίνεσθε τοῖς ἀνθρώποις δίκαιοι, ἔσωθεν δέ ἐστε μεστοὶ ὑποκρίσεως καὶ ἀνομίας.
Sic et vos a foris quidem paretis hominibus justi : intus autem pleni estis hypocrisi et iniquitate.
ከማሁኬ አንትሙኒ እንተ አፍኣክሙ ትጼደቁ ለዐይነ ሰብእ ወእንተ ውስጥክሙሰ ምሉኣን አንትሙ ዐመፃ ወሀዪደ ወአድልዎ።
Even so you also outwardly appear righteous to men, but inwardly you are full of hypocrisy and iniquity.
23:29
οὐαὶ ὑμῖν, γραμματεῖς καὶ Φαρισαῖοι ὑποκριταί, ὅτι οἰκοδομεῖτε τοὺς τάφους τῶν προφητῶν καὶ κοσμεῖτε τὰ μνημεῖα τῶν δικαίων,
Vae vobis scribae et pharisaei hypocritae, qui aedificatis sepulchra prophetarum, et ornatis monumenta justorum,
አሌ ለክሙ ጸሐፍት ወፈሪሳውያን መደልዋን እለ ትነድቁ መቃብሪሆሙ ለነቢያት ወታስተሣንዩ ዝኅሮሙ ለጻድቃን።
“Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you build the tombs of the prophets and decorate the tombs of the righteous,
23:30
καὶ λέγετε· εἰ ἤμεθα ἐν ταῖς ἡμέραις τῶν πατέρων ἡμῶν, οὐκ ἂν ἤμεθα κοινωνοὶ αὐτῶν ἐν τῷ αἵματι τῶν προφητῶν.
et dicitis : Si fuissemus in diebus patrum nostrorum, non essemus socii eorum in sanguine prophetarum !
ወትብሉ ሶበሰ ሀለውነ በመዋዕለ አበዊነ እምኢተሳተፍነ ምስሌሆሙ በደመ ነቢያት።
and say, ‘If we had lived in the days of our fathers, we wouldn’t have been partakers with them in the blood of the prophets.’
23:31
ὥστε μαρτυρεῖτε ἑαυτοῖς ὅτι υἱοί ἐστε τῶν φονευσάντων τοὺς προφήτας.
itaque testimonio estis vobismetipsis, quia filii estis eorum, qui prophetas occiderunt.
ናሁኬ ለሊክሙ ተአምኑ፥ ከመ ደቂቆሙ አንትሙ ለቀተልተ ነቢያት።
Therefore you testify to yourselves that you are children of those who killed the prophets.
23:32
καὶ ὑμεῖς πληρώσατε τὸ μέτρον τῶν πατέρων ὑμῶν.
Et vos implete mensuram patrum vestrorum.
አንትሙሂ ፈጽሙ መስፈርተ አበዊክሙ።
Fill up, then, the measure of your fathers.
23:33
ὄφεις, γεννήματα ἐχιδνῶν, πῶς φύγητε ἀπὸ τῆς κρίσεως τῆς γεέννης;
Serpentes, genimina viperarum, quomodo fugietis a judicio gehennae ?
ኦ አፍዖታት! ትውልደ አራዊተ ምድር፥ በእፎ ትክሉ አምስጦ እምኵነኔ ገሃነም።
You serpents, you offspring of vipers, how will you escape the judgment of Gehenna?
23:34
διὰ τοῦτο ἰδοὺ ἐγὼ ἀποστέλλω πρὸς ὑμᾶς προφήτας καὶ σοφοὺς καὶ γραμματεῖς· ἐξ αὐτῶν ἀποκτενεῖτε καὶ σταυρώσετε, καὶ ἐξ αὐτῶν μαστιγώσετε ἐν ταῖς συναγωγαῖς ὑμῶν καὶ διώξετε ἀπὸ πόλεως εἰς πόλιν·
Ideo ecce ego mitto ad vos prophetas, et sapientes, et scribas, et ex illis occidetis, et crucifigetis, et ex eis flagellabitis in synagogis vestris, et persequemini de civitate in civitatem :
ወበእንተዝ ናሁ አነ እፌኑ ኀቤክሙ ነቢያተ ወጠቢባነ ወጸሐፍተ ወትቀትሉ እምውስቴቶሙ ወትሰቅሉ ወትቀሥፉ በመኳርብቲክሙ ወትሰድድዎሙ እምሀገር ውስተ ሀገር።
Therefore, behold, I send to you prophets, wise men, and scribes. Some of them you will kill and crucify; and some of them you will scourge in your synagogues and persecute from city to city,
23:35
ὅπως ἔλθῃ ἐφ’ ὑμᾶς πᾶν αἷμα δίκαιον ἐκχυννόμενον ἐπὶ τῆς γῆς ἀπὸ τοῦ αἵματος Ἅβελ τοῦ δικαίου ἕως τοῦ αἵματος Ζαχαρίου υἱοῦ Βαραχίου, ὃν ἐφονεύσατε μεταξὺ τοῦ ναοῦ καὶ τοῦ θυσιαστηρίου.
ut veniat super vos omnis sanguis justus, qui effusus est super terram, a sanguine Abel justi usque ad sanguinem Zachariae, filii Barachiae, quem occidistis inter templum et altare.
ከመ ይብጻሕ ላዕሌክሙ ደመ ኵሎሙ ጻድቃን ዘተክዕወ ዲበ ምድር እምደመ አቤል ጻድቅ እስከ ደመ ዘካርያስ ወልደ በራክዩ ዘቀተልክምዎ በማእከለ ቤተ መቅደስ ወምሥዋዕ።
that on you may come all the righteous blood shed on the earth, from the blood of righteous Abel to the blood of Zachariah son of Barachiah, whom you killed between the sanctuary and the altar.
23:36
ἀμὴν λέγω ὑμῖν, ἥξει ταῦτα πάντα ἐπὶ τὴν γενεὰν ταύτην.
Amen dico vobis, venient haec omnia super generationem istam.
አማን እብለክሙ ከመ ዝንቱ ኵሉ ይበጽሓ ለዛቲ ትውልድ።
Most certainly I tell you, all these things will come upon this generation.
23:37
Ἱερουσαλὴμ Ἱερουσαλήμ, ἡ ἀποκτείνουσα τοὺς προφήτας καὶ λιθοβολοῦσα τοὺς ἀπεσταλμένους πρὸς αὐτήν, ποσάκις ἠθέλησα ἐπισυναγαγεῖν τὰ τέκνα σου, ὃν τρόπον ὄρνις ἐπισυνάγει τὰ νοσσία αὐτῆς ὑπὸ τὰς πτέρυγας, καὶ οὐκ ἠθελήσατε.
Jerusalem, Jerusalem, quae occidis prophetas, et lapidas eos, qui ad te missi sunt, quoties volui congregare filios tuos, quemadmodum gallina congregat pullos suos sub alas, et noluisti ?
ኢየሩሳሌም ኢየሩሳሌም እንተ ትቀትሎሙ ለነቢያት ወትዌግሮሙ ለሐዋርያት እለ ተፈነዉ ኀቤሃ ሚመጠነ ፈቀድኩ አስተጋብኦሙ ለውሉድኪ ከመ እንተ ታስተጋብእ ዶርሆ ዕጐሊሃ ታሕተ ክነፊሃ ወአበይክሙ።
“Jerusalem, Jerusalem, who kills the prophets and stones those who are sent to her! How often I would have gathered your children together, even as a hen gathers her chicks under her wings, and you would not!
23:38
ἰδοὺ ἀφίεται ὑμῖν ὁ οἶκος ὑμῶν ἔρημος.
Ecce relinquetur vobis domus vestra deserta.
ናሁ ይትኀደግ ለክሙ ቤትክሙ በድወ።
Behold, your house is left to you desolate.
23:39
λέγω γὰρ ὑμῖν, οὐ μή με ἴδητε ἀπ’ ἄρτι ἕως ἂν εἴπητε· εὐλογημένος ὁ ἐρχόμενος ἐν ὀνόματι κυρίου.
Dico enim vobis, non me videbitis amodo, donec dicatis : Benedictus, qui venit in nomine Domini.
አማን እብለክሙ እምይእዜሰ ኢትሬእዩኒ እስከ ሶበ ትብሉ «ቡሩክ ዘይመጽእ በስመ እግዚአብሔር።»
For I tell you, you will not see me from now on, until you say, ‘Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord!’”
