ወሰምዑ፡ ደቂቀ፡ እሥራኤል፡ ወእለ፡ ይነብሩ፡ ውስተ፡ ይሁዳ፡ ኵሎ፡ ዘገብረ፡ ሆሎፎርኒስ፡ ላዕለ፡ አሕዛብ፡ መልአከ፡ ኃይሉ፡ ለናቡከደነፆር፡ ንጉሠ፡ ፋርስ፡ ዘከመ፡ አማሰነ፡ ኵሎ፡ ደወሎሙ፡ ወዘከመ፡ አጥፍኦሙ።
The children of Israel that lived in Judea heard all that Holofernes the chief captain of Nebuchadnezzar king of the Assyrians had done to the nations, and how he had plundered all their temples and destroyed them utterly.
4:2
καὶ ἐφοβήθησαν σφόδρα σφόδρα ἀπὸ προσώπου αὐτοῦ καὶ περὶ Ιερουσαλημ καὶ τοῦ ναοῦ κυρίου θεοῦ αὐτῶν ἐταράχθησαν
Tremor et horror invasit sensus eorum, ne hoc faceret Jerusalem et templo Domini, quod fecerat ceteris civitatibus et templis earum.
ወፈርሁ፡ ጥቀ፡ ፈድፋደ፡ እምቅድመ፡ ገጹ፡ ወበእንተ፡ ኢየሩሳሌም፡ ወበእንተ፡ ቤተ፡ እግዚአብሔር፡ አምላኮሙ።
They were exceedingly afraid before him, and were troubled for Jerusalem, and for the temple of the Lord their God;
4:3
ὅτι προσφάτως ἦσαν ἀναβεβηκότες ἐκ τῆς αἰχμαλωσίας καὶ νεωστὶ πᾶς ὁ λαὸς συνελέλεκτο τῆς Ιουδαίας καὶ τὰ σκεύη καὶ τὸ θυσιαστήριον καὶ ὁ οἶκος ἐκ τῆς βεβηλώσεως ἡγιασμένα ἦν
Et miserunt in omnem Samariam per circuitum usque Jericho, et præoccupaverunt omnes vertices montium :
እስመ፡ ግብተ፡ ሀለዉ፡ እምኀበ፡ ዐርጉ፡ እምድኅረ፡ ተፄወዉ፡ ኵሉ፡ ኅሩያን፡ ሕዝብ፡ ዘእምነገደ፡ ይሁዳ፡ ወበእንተ፡ ንዋየ፡ ቅድሳት፡ ወምሥዋዕ፡ ወበእንተ፡ ቤተ፡ መቅደስ፡ እስመ፡ እምድኅረ፡ ተገመነ፡ ቀደስዎ።
because they had newly come up from the captivity, and all the people of Judea were recently gathered together; and the vessels, the altar, and the house were sanctified after being profaned.
4:4
καὶ ἀπέστειλαν εἰς πᾶν ὅριον Σαμαρείας καὶ Κωνα καὶ Βαιθωρων καὶ Βελμαιν καὶ Ιεριχω καὶ εἰς Χωβα καὶ Αισωρα καὶ τὸν αὐλῶνα Σαλημ
et muris circumdederunt vicos suos, et congregaverunt frumenta in præparationem pugnæ.
ወለአከ፡ ውስተ፡ ኵሉ፡ ደወለ፡ ሶርያ፡ ወቆናስ፡ ወቤቶሮ፡ ወቤልሞን፡ ወኢያሪኮ፡ ወአስኮባን፡ ወኦሥራ፡ ወአውሌናሴሌም።
And they sent into every coast of Samaria, to Konae, to Beth-horon, Belmaim, Jericho, to Choba, Aesora, and to the valley of Salem;
4:5
καὶ προκατελάβοντο πάσας τὰς κορυφὰς τῶν ὀρέων τῶν ὑψηλῶν καὶ ἐτείχισαν τὰς ἐν αὐτοῖς κώμας καὶ παρέθεντο εἰς ἐπισιτισμὸν εἰς παρασκευὴν πολέμου ὅτι προσφάτως ἦν τὰ πεδία αὐτῶν τεθερισμένα
Sacerdos etiam Eliachim scripsit ad universos qui erant contra Esdrelon, quæ est contra faciem campi magni juxta Dothain, et universos per quos viæ transitus esse poterat,
ወበጽሐ፡ ውስተ፡ ኵሉ፡ አርእስተ፡ አድባሪሆሙ፡ ልዑላን፡ ወኀደረ፡ ላዕለ፡ አህጉር፡ እለ፡ ውስቴቶሙ፡ ወነሥኡ፡ ሎሙ፡ ስንቀ፡ ለፀብእ፡ እስመ፡ ግብተ፡ ኮኖሙ፡ ማዕረሮሙ።
and they occupied beforehand all the tops of the high mountains, fortified the villages that were in them, stored supplies for the provision of war; for their fields were newly reaped.
4:6
καὶ ἔγραψεν Ιωακιμ ὁ ἱερεὺς ὁ μέγας ὃς ἦν ἐν ταῖς ἡμέραις ἐν Ιερουσαλημ τοῖς κατοικοῦσι Βαιτυλουα καὶ Βαιτομεσθαιμ ἥ ἐστιν ἀπέναντι Εσδρηλων κατὰ πρόσωπον τοῦ πεδίου τοῦ πλησίον Δωθαϊμ
ut obtinerent ascensus montium, per quos via esse poterat ad Jerusalem, et illic custodirent ubi angustum iter esse poterat inter montes.
ወጸሐፈ፡ ኢዮአቄም፡ ካህን፡ ዓቢይ፡ ዘሀለወ፡ በኪያሆን፡ መዋዕል፡ ውስተ፡ ኢየሩሳሌም፡ ለእለ፡ ይነብሩ፡ ውስተ፡ ቤጤልዋ፡ ወቤጦሜስታም፡ እንተ፡ ቅድመ፡ ኢያሪኮ፡ ውስተ፡ ገጸ፡ ገዳም፡ ዘገቦ፡ ዶታይም።
Joakim the high priest, who was in those days at Jerusalem, wrote to those who lived in Bethulia, and Betomesthaim, which is opposite Esdraelon toward the plain that is near to Dothaim,
4:7
λέγων διακατασχεῖν τὰς ἀναβάσεις τῆς ὀρεινῆς ὅτι δῑ αὐτῶν ἦν ἡ εἴσοδος εἰς τὴν Ιουδαίαν καὶ ἦν εὐχερῶς διακωλῦσαι αὐτοὺς προσβαίνοντας στενῆς τῆς προσβάσεως οὔσης ἐπ’ ἄνδρας τοὺς πάντας δύο
Et fecerunt filii Israël secundum quod constituerat eis sacerdos Domini Eliachim.
እንዘ፡ ይብል፡ አጽንዑ፡ ፍትሐታተ፡ አድባር፡ እስመ፡ እንተ፡ ህየ፡ ቦቱ፡ ሙባዕ፡ ላዕለ፡ ይሁዳ፡ ከመ፡ ትክልእዎሙ፡ ኃሊፈ፡ እስመ፡ ጸባብ፡ ሙባዒሁ፡ ወፍናዊሁ፡ ዳዕሙ፡ ምኅላፈ፡ ክልኤቱ፡ ዕደው፡ ኵለንታሁ።
charging them to seize upon the ascents of the hill country; because by them was the entrance into Judea, and it was easy to stop them from approaching, inasmuch as the approach was narrow, with space for two men at the most.
4:8
καὶ ἐποίησαν οἱ υἱοὶ Ισραηλ καθὰ συνέταξεν αὐτοῖς Ιωακιμ ὁ ἱερεὺς ὁ μέγας καὶ ἡ γερουσία παντὸς δήμου Ισραηλ οἳ ἐκάθηντο ἐν Ιερουσαλημ
Et clamavit omnis populus ad Dominum instantia magna, et humiliaverunt animas suas in jejuniis et orationibus, ipsi et mulieres eorum.
ወገብሩ፡ ደቂቀ፡ እሥራኤል፡ በከመ፡ አዘዞሙ፡ ኢዮአቄም፡ ካህን፡ ዓቢይ፡ ወኵሉ፡ ሊቃውንተ፡ እሥራኤል፡ እለ፡ ይነብሩ፡ ኢየሩሳሌም።
And the children of Israel did as Joakim the high priest had commanded them, as did the senate of all the people of Israel, which lived at Jerusalem.
4:9
καὶ ἀνεβόησαν πᾶς ἀνὴρ Ισραηλ πρὸς τὸν θεὸν ἐν ἐκτενείᾳ μεγάλῃ καὶ ἐταπείνωσαν τὰς ψυχὰς αὐτῶν ἐν ἐκτενείᾳ μεγάλῃ
Et induerunt se sacerdotes ciliciis, et infantes prostraverunt contra faciem templi Domini, et altare Domini operuerunt cilicio :
ወጸርሑ፡ ኵሎሙ፡ ደቂቀ፡ እስራኤል፡ ኀበ፡ እግዚአብሔር፡ በዓቢይ፡ ቃል፡ ወአሕመሙ፡ ነፍሶሙ፡ በዓቢይ፡ ሕማም።
And every man of Israel cried to God with great earnestness, and with great earnestness they humbled their souls.
4:10
αὐτοὶ καὶ αἱ γυναῖκες αὐτῶν καὶ τὰ νήπια αὐτῶν καὶ τὰ κτήνη αὐτῶν καὶ πᾶς πάροικος καὶ μισθωτὸς καὶ ἀργυρώνητος αὐτῶν ἐπέθεντο σάκκους ἐπὶ τὰς ὀσφύας αὐτῶν
et clamaverunt ad Dominum Deum Israël unanimiter ne darentur in prædam infantes eorum, et uxores eorum in divisionem, et civitates eorum in exterminium, et sancta eorum in pollutionem, et fierent opprobrium gentibus.
ወእሙንቱኒ፡ ወአንስቲያሆሙኒ፡ ወደቂቆሙኒ፡ ወእንስሳሆሙኒ፡ ወኵሉ፡ ፈላሲ፡ ወአሳብ፡ ወዘበሤጥ፡ ለሀዉ፡ ወለብሱ፡ ሠቀ።
They, their wives, their children, their cattle, and every sojourner, hireling, and servant bought with their money put sackcloth on their loins.
4:11
καὶ πᾶς ἀνὴρ Ισραηλ καὶ γυνὴ καὶ τὰ παιδία οἱ κατοικοῦντες ἐν Ιερουσαλημ ἔπεσον κατὰ πρόσωπον τοῦ ναοῦ καὶ ἐσποδώσαντο τὰς κεφαλὰς αὐτῶν καὶ ἐξέτειναν τοὺς σάκκους αὐτῶν κατὰ πρόσωπον κυρίου
Tunc Eliachim sacerdos Domini magnus circuivit omnem Israël, allocutusque est eos,
ወኵሉ፡ ሰብአ፡ እስራኤል፡ ወአንስቲያሆሙ፡ ወደቂቆሙ፡ እለ፡ ይነብሩ፡ ኢየሩሳሌም፡ ወድቁ፡ ውስተ፡ ቤተ፡ መቅደስ፡ ወደዩ፡ ሐመደ፡ ዲበ፡ ርእሶሙ፡ ወሰፍሑ፡ ሠቃቲሆሙ፡ ቅድመ፡ እግዚአብሔር፡ ወአልበሱ፡ ምሥዋዓ፡ ሠቀ።
Every man and woman of Israel, and the little children, and the inhabitants of Jerusalem, fell before the temple, and cast ashes upon their heads, and spread out their sackcloth before the Lord. They put sackcloth around the altar.
4:12
καὶ τὸ θυσιαστήριον σάκκῳ περιέβαλον καὶ ἐβόησαν πρὸς τὸν θεὸν Ισραηλ ὁμοθυμαδὸν ἐκτενῶς τοῦ μὴ δοῦναι εἰς διαρπαγὴν τὰ νήπια αὐτῶν καὶ τὰς γυναῖκας εἰς προνομὴν καὶ τὰς πόλεις τῆς κληρονομίας αὐτῶν εἰς ἀφανισμὸν καὶ τὰ ἅγια εἰς βεβήλωσιν καὶ ὀνειδισμὸν ἐπίχαρμα τοῖς ἔθνεσιν
dicens : Scitote quoniam exaudiet Dominus preces vestras, si manentes permanseritis in jejuniis et orationibus in conspectu Domini.
ወጸርሑ፡ ኀበ፡ እግዚአብሔር፡ አምላከ፡ እስራኤል፡ ኅቡረ፡ በሕቁ፡ ከመ፡ ኢይትመሠጡ፡ ደቂቆሙ፡ ወከመ፡ ኢይፄወዋ፡ አንስቲያሆሙ፡ ወከመ፡ ኢያጥፍኡ፡ አህጉረ፡ ርስቶሙ፡ ወኢያገምኑ፡ መቅደሶሙ፡ ወኢይሬስይዎ፡ ተውኔተ፡ ለአሕዛብ።
They cried to the God of Israel earnestly with one consent, that he would not give their children as prey, their wives as plunder, the cities of their inheritance to destruction, and the sanctuary to being profaned and being made a reproach, for the nations to rejoice at.
4:13
καὶ εἰσήκουσεν κύριος τῆς φωνῆς αὐτῶν καὶ εἰσεῖδεν τὴν θλῖψιν αὐτῶν καὶ ἦν ὁ λαὸς νηστεύων ἡμέρας πλείους ἐν πάσῃ τῇ Ιουδαίᾳ καὶ Ιερουσαλημ κατὰ πρόσωπον τῶν ἁγίων κυρίου παντοκράτορος
Memores estote Moysi servi Domini, qui Amalec confidentem in virtute sua, et in potentia sua, et in exercitu suo, et in clypeis suis, et in curribus suis, et in equitibus suis, non ferro pugnando, sed precibus sanctis orando dejecit :
ወርእየ፡ እግዚአብሔር፡ ሕማሞሙ፡ ወሰምዐ፡ ቃሎሙ፡ ወጾሙ፡ ሕዝብ፡ ብዙኃ፡ መዋዕለ፡ በኵሉ፡ ይሁዳ፡ ወበኢየሩሳሌም፡ በቅድመ፡ መቅደሱ፡ ለእግዚአብሔር፡ ዘኵሎ፡ ይመልክ።
The Lord heard their voice, and looked at their affliction. The people continued fasting many days in all Judea and Jerusalem before the sanctuary of the Lord Almighty.
4:14
καὶ Ιωακιμ ὁ ἱερεὺς ὁ μέγας καὶ πάντες οἱ παρεστηκότες ἐνώπιον κυρίου ἱερεῖς καὶ οἱ λειτουργοῦντες κυρίῳ σάκκους περιεζωσμένοι τὰς ὀσφύας αὐτῶν προσέφερον τὴν ὁλοκαύτωσιν τοῦ ἐνδελεχισμοῦ καὶ τὰς εὐχὰς καὶ τὰ ἑκούσια δόματα τοῦ λαοῦ
sic erunt universi hostes Israël, si perseveraveritis in hoc opere quod cœpistis.
ወኢዮአቄምሰ፡ ካህን፡ ዓቢይ፡ ወኵሎሙ፡ እለ፡ ይቀውሙ፡ ካህናት፡ ቅድመ፡ እግዚአብሔር፡ ወእለ፡ ይገብሩ፡ ግብረ፡ እግዚአብሔር፡ ቀነቱ፡ ሠቃተ፡ ውስተ፡ ሐቌሆሙ፡ ወአብኡ፡ መሥዋዕተ፡ ዘዘልፍ፡ ወዘብፅአት፡ ወዘበፈቃዶሙ፡ ዘያበውዑ፡ ሕዝብ።
And Joakim the high priest, and all the priests that stood before the Lord, and those who ministered to the Lord, had their loins dressed in sackcloth, and offered the continual burnt offering, the vows, and the free gifts of the people.
4:15
καὶ ἦν σποδὸς ἐπὶ τὰς κιδάρεις αὐτῶν καὶ ἐβόων πρὸς κύριον ἐκ πάσης δυνάμεως εἰς ἀγαθὸν ἐπισκέψασθαι πᾶν οἶκον Ισραηλ
Ad hanc igitur exhortationem ejus deprecantes Dominum, permanebant in conspectu Domini,
ወወደዩ፡ ሐመደ፡ ውስተ፡ አርእስቲሆሙ፡ ወጸርሑ፡ ኀበ፡ እግዚአብሔር፡ በኵሉ፡ ኃይሎሙ፡ ወይቤሉ፡ ነጽር፡ ላዕለ፡ ቤተ፡ እስራኤል፡ በሠናይ።
They had ashes on their hats. They cried to the Lord with all their power, that he would look upon all the house of Israel for good.
