23:1
וַיַּ֥עַן אִיּ֗וֹב וַיֹּאמַֽר׃
ὑπολαβὼν δὲ Ιωβ λέγει
Respondens autem Job, ait :
ወደእደ፡ ተናገረ፡ ኢዮብ፡ ወተሰጥወ፡ ወይቤ።
Then Job answered,
23:2
גַּם־הַ֭יּוֹם מְרִ֣י שִׂחִ֑י יָ֝דִ֗י כָּבְדָ֥ה עַל־אַנְחָתִֽי׃
καὶ δὴ οἶδα ὅτι ἐκ χειρός μου ἡ ἔλεγξίς ἐστιν καὶ ἡ χεὶρ αὐτοῦ βαρεῖα γέγονεν ἐπ’ ἐμῷ στεναγμῷ
Nunc quoque in amaritudine est sermo meus, et manus plagae meae aggravata est super gemitum meum.
አእመርኩ፡ ከመ፡ እምእዴየ፡ ውእቱ፡ ዘለፋየ፡ ወአክበደ፡ እዴሁ፡ ላዕሌየ፡ ወአግዐረኒ።
“Even today my complaint is rebellious. His hand is heavy in spite of my groaning.
23:3
מִֽי־יִתֵּ֣ן יָ֭דַעְתִּי וְאֶמְצָאֵ֑הוּ אָ֝ב֗וֹא עַד־תְּכוּנָתֽוֹ׃
τίς δ’ ἄρα γνοίη ὅτι εὕροιμι αὐτὸν καὶ ἔλθοιμι εἰς τέλος
Quis mihi tribuat ut cognoscam et inveniam illum, et veniam usque ad solium ejus ?
ምንት፡ ውእቱ፡ ዘኢየአምር፡ ከመ፡ እርከብ፡ ወእብጻሕ፡ እስከ፡ ለዝሉፉ።
Oh that I knew where I might find him! That I might come even to his seat!
23:4
אֶעֶרְכָ֣ה לְפָנָ֣יו מִשְׁפָּ֑ט וּ֝פִ֗י אֲמַלֵּ֥א תוֹכָחֽוֹת׃
εἴποιμι δὲ ἐμαυτοῦ κρίμα τὸ δὲ στόμα μου ἐμπλήσαιμι ἐλέγχων
Ponam coram eo judicium, et os meum replebo increpationibus :
ወይንግረኒ፡ እመቦ፡ ዘገበርኩ፡ ወኢያረምም፡ አፉየ፡ እንዘ፡ እወቅስ።
I would set my cause in order before him, and fill my mouth with arguments.
23:5
אֵ֭דְעָה מִלִּ֣ים יַעֲנֵ֑נִי וְ֝אָבִ֗ינָה מַה־יֹּ֥אמַר לִֽי׃
γνῴην δὲ ῥήματα ἅ μοι ἐρεῖ αἰσθοίμην δὲ τίνα μοι ἀπαγγελεῖ
ut sciam verba quae mihi respondeat, et intelligam quid loquatur mihi.
ወአምር፡ ሊተሂ፡ ከመ፡ ይሁበኒ፡ ፈውሰ፡ ወለበውኩ፡ ዘይሁበኒ።
I would know the words which he would answer me, and understand what he would tell me.
23:6
הַבְּרׇב־כֹּ֭חַ יָרִ֣יב עִמָּדִ֑י לֹ֥א אַךְ־ה֝֗וּא יָשִׂ֥ם בִּֽי׃
καὶ εἰ ἐν πολλῇ ἰσχύι ἐπελεύσεταί μοι εἶτα ἐν ἀπειλῇ μοι οὐ χρήσεται
Nolo multa fortitudine contendat mecum, nec magnitudinis suae mole me premat.
ወእመሂ፡ በብዙኅ፡ ኃይል፡ ይመጽሕ፡ ኢይገብር፡ እንከ፡ በመዓቱ፡ ላዕሌየ፡ እስመ፡ ሣህል፡ ወጻድቅ፡ ኀቤሁ።
Would he contend with me in the greatness of his power? No, but he would listen to me.
23:7
שָׁ֗ם יָ֭שָׁר נוֹכָ֣ח עִמּ֑וֹ וַאֲפַלְּטָ֥ה לָ֝נֶ֗צַח מִשֹּׁפְטִֽי׃
ἀλήθεια γὰρ καὶ ἔλεγχος παρ’ αὐτοῦ ἐξαγάγοι δὲ εἰς τέλος τὸ κρίμα μου
Proponat aequitatem contra me, et perveniat ad victoriam judicium meum.
ወያዐርፈኒ፡ ለዝሉፉ፡ እምኵነኔየ፡ እስመ፡ ኀበ፡ ቀዲሙ።
There the upright might reason with him, so I should be delivered forever from my judge.
23:8
הֵ֤ן קֶ֣דֶם אֶהֱלֹ֣ךְ וְאֵינֶ֑נּוּ וְ֝אָח֗וֹר וְֽלֹא־אָבִ֥ין לֽוֹ׃
εἰς γὰρ πρῶτα πορεύσομαι καὶ οὐκέτι εἰμί τὰ δὲ ἐπ’ ἐσχάτοις τί οἶδα
Si ad orientem iero, non apparet ; si ad occidentem, non intelligam eum.
ወኢይሄሉ፡ እንከ፡ ወኢየአምር፡ እንከ፡ ደኃሪታ።
“If I go east, he is not there. If I go west, I can’t find him.
23:9
שְׂמֹ֣אול בַּעֲשֹׂת֣וֹ וְלֹא־אָ֑חַז יַעְטֹ֥ף יָ֝מִ֗ין וְלֹ֣א אֶרְאֶֽה׃
ἀριστερὰ ποιήσαντος αὐτοῦ καὶ οὐ κατέσχον περιβαλεῖ δεξιά καὶ οὐκ ὄψομαι
Si ad sinistram, quid agam ? non apprehendam eum ; si me vertam ad dexteram, non videbo illum.
እገብእ፡ እንከ፡ መንገለ፡ ጸጋም፡ ወእትመየጥ፡ መንገለ፡ የማን፡ ወአልቦ፡ ዘእሬኢ።
He works to the north, but I can’t see him. He turns south, but I can’t catch a glimpse of him.
23:10
כִּֽי־יָ֭דַע דֶּ֣רֶךְ עִמָּדִ֑י בְּ֝חָנַ֗נִי כַּזָּהָ֥ב אֵצֵֽא׃
οἶδεν γὰρ ἤδη ὁδόν μου διέκρινεν δέ με ὥσπερ τὸ χρυσίον
Ipse vero scit viam meam, et probavit me quasi aurum quod per ignem transit.
ወእደ፡ አእምር፡ ፍኖትየ፡ ወፈተነኒ፡ ከመ፡ ወርቅ።
But he knows the way that I take. When he has tried me, I will come out like gold.
23:11
בַּ֭אֲשֻׁרוֹ אָחֲזָ֣ה רַגְלִ֑י דַּרְכּ֖וֹ שָׁמַ֣רְתִּי וְלֹא־אָֽט׃
ἐξελεύσομαι δὲ ἐν ἐντάλμασιν αὐτοῦ ὁδοὺς γὰρ αὐτοῦ ἐφύλαξα καὶ οὐ μὴ ἐκκλίνω
Vestigia ejus secutus est pes meus : viam ejus custodivi, et non declinavi ex ea.
ወኢይወጽእ፡ እምተግሣዑ፡ ወዓቀብኩ፡ ፍናዊሁ፡ ወኢተግኅሥኩ።
My foot has held fast to his steps. I have kept his way, and not turned away.
23:12
מִצְוַ֣ת שְׂ֭פָתָיו וְלֹ֣א אָמִ֑ישׁ מֵ֝חֻקִּ֗י צָפַ֥נְתִּי אִמְרֵי־פִֽיו׃
ἀπὸ ἐνταλμάτων αὐτοῦ καὶ οὐ μὴ παρέλθω ἐν δὲ κόλπῳ μου ἔκρυψα ῥήματα αὐτοῦ
A mandatis labiorum ejus non recessi, et in sinu meo abscondi verba oris ejus.
ወኢኀለፍኩ፡ እምትእዛዙ፡ ወኀባእኩ፡ ነገሮ፡ ውስተ፡ ሕፅንየ።
I haven’t gone back from the commandment of his lips. I have treasured up the words of his mouth more than my necessary food.
23:13
וְה֣וּא בְ֭אֶחָד וּמִ֣י יְשִׁיבֶ֑נּוּ וְנַפְשׁ֖וֹ אִוְּתָ֣ה וַיָּֽעַשׂ׃
εἰ δὲ καὶ αὐτὸς ἔκρινεν οὕτως τίς ἐστιν ὁ ἀντειπὼν αὐτῷ ὃ γὰρ αὐτὸς ἠθέλησεν καὶ ἐποίησεν
Ipse enim solus est, et nemo avertere potest cogitationem ejus : et anima ejus quodcumque voluit, hoc fecit.
ወመኑ፡ ውእቱ፡ ዘይትዋቀሶ፡ በእንተ፡ ኵነኔ፡ እስመ፡ ውእቱ፡ ዘይፈቀደ፡ ይገብር።
But he stands alone, and who can oppose him? What his soul desires, even that he does.
23:14
כִּ֭י יַשְׁלִ֣ים חֻקִּ֑י וְכָהֵ֖נָּה רַבּ֣וֹת עִמּֽוֹ׃
—
Cum expleverit in me voluntatem suam, et alia multa similia praesto sunt ei.
ወበእንተዝ፡ አነሂ፡ ጐጓእኩ፡ በእንቲአሁ፡ ወተገሢዕየ፡ ሐለይክዎ።
For he performs that which is appointed for me. Many such things are with him.
23:15
עַל־כֵּ֭ן מִפָּנָ֣יו אֶבָּהֵ֑ל אֶ֝תְבּוֹנֵ֗ן וְאֶפְחַ֥ד מִמֶּֽנּוּ׃
διὰ τοῦτο ἐπ’ αὐτῷ ἐσπούδακα νουθετούμενος δὲ ἐφρόντισα αὐτοῦ ἐπὶ τούτῳ ἀπὸ προσώπου αὐτοῦ κατασπουδασθῶ κατανοήσω καὶ πτοηθήσομαι ἐξ αὐτοῦ
Et idcirco a facie ejus turbatus sum, et considerans eum, timore sollicitor.
ወበእንተዝ፡ ደንገፅኩ፡ እምቅድመ፡ ገጹ፡ እሔልዮሂ፡ ወይጌርመኒ።
Therefore I am terrified at his presence. When I consider, I am afraid of him.
23:16
וְ֭אֵל הֵרַ֣ךְ לִבִּ֑י וְ֝שַׁדַּ֗י הִבְהִילָֽנִי׃
κύριος δὲ ἐμαλάκυνεν τὴν καρδίαν μου ὁ δὲ παντοκράτωρ ἐσπούδασέν με
Deus mollivit cor meum, et Omnipotens conturbavit me.
ወእግዚአብሔር፡ መሰዎ፡ ለልብየ፡ ወዘኵሎ፡ ይመልከ፡ አጐጕዓኒ።
For God has made my heart faint. The Almighty has terrified me.
23:17
כִּֽי־לֹ֣א נִ֭צְמַתִּי מִפְּנֵי־חֹ֑שֶׁךְ וּ֝מִפָּנַ֗י כִּסָּה־אֹֽפֶל׃
οὐ γὰρ ᾔδειν ὅτι ἐπελεύσεταί μοι σκότος πρὸ προσώπου δέ μου ἐκάλυψεν γνόφος
Non enim perii propter imminentes tenebras, nec faciem meam operuit caligo.
በእይቴ፡ አእመርኩ፡ ከመ፡ ትመጽአኒ፡ ጽልመት፡ ወደፈነኒ፡ ቆባር፡ ውስተ፡ ገጽየ።
Because I was not cut off before the darkness, neither did he cover the thick darkness from my face.
