42:1
וַֽיִּגְּשׁוּ֙ כׇּל־שָׂרֵ֣י הַחֲיָלִ֔ים וְיֽוֹחָנָן֙ בֶּן־קָרֵ֔חַ וִיזַנְיָ֖ה בֶּן־הוֹשַֽׁעְיָ֑ה וְכׇל־הָעָ֖ם מִקָּטֹ֥ן וְעַד־גָּדֽוֹל׃
ὁ λόγος ὁ γενόμενος πρὸς Ιερεμιαν παρὰ κυρίου ἐν ἡμέραις Ιωακιμ βασιλέως Ιουδα λέγων
Et accesserunt omnes principes bellatorum, et Johanan filius Caree, et Jezonias filius Osaiae, et reliquum vulgus, a parvo usque ad magnum,
ወመጽኡ፡ ኵሉ፡ መላእክተ፡ ኃይሎሙ፡ ወዮሐናን፡ ወልደ፡ ቃርሔ፡ ወኢዛንያስ፡ ወልደ፡ ሐናንዩ፡ ወኵሉ፡ ሕዝብ፡ ንኡስ፡ ወዓብይ፡ ኀበ፡ ኤርምያስ፡ ነቢይ።
Then all the captains of the forces, and Johanan the son of Kareah, and Jezaniah the son of Hoshaiah, and all the people from the least even to the greatest, came near,
42:2
וַיֹּאמְר֞וּ אֶל־יִרְמְיָ֣הוּ הַנָּבִ֗יא תִּפׇּל־נָ֤א תְחִנָּתֵ֙נוּ֙ לְפָנֶ֔יךָ וְהִתְפַּלֵּ֤ל בַּעֲדֵ֙נוּ֙ אֶל־יְהֹוָ֣ה אֱלֹהֶ֔יךָ בְּעַ֖ד כׇּל־הַשְּׁאֵרִ֣ית הַזֹּ֑את כִּֽי־נִשְׁאַ֤רְנֽוּ מְעַט֙ מֵֽהַרְבֵּ֔ה כַּאֲשֶׁ֥ר עֵינֶ֖יךָ רֹא֥וֹת אֹתָֽנוּ׃
βάδισον εἰς οἶκον Αρχαβιν καὶ ἄξεις αὐτοὺς εἰς οἶκον κυρίου εἰς μίαν τῶν αὐλῶν καὶ ποτιεῖς αὐτοὺς οἶνον
dixeruntque ad Jeremiam prophetam : Cadat oratio nostra in conspectu tuo, et ora pro nobis ad Dominum Deum tuum, pro universis reliquiis istis, quia derelicti sumus pauci de pluribus, sicut oculi tui nos intuentur :
ወይቤሎ፡ ይደቅ፡ ምሕረትነ፡ ቅድመ፡ ገጽከ፡ ወጸሊ፡ በእንቲአነ፡ ኀበ፡ እግዚአብሔር፡ አምላክከ፡ በእንተ፡ እሎንቱ፡ እለ፡ ተርፉ፡ እስመ፡ ተረፍነ፡ ኅዳጣን፡ እምብዙኅን፡ በከመ፡ አዕይንቲከ፡ ይኔጽራ።
and said to Jeremiah the prophet, “Please let our supplication be presented before you, and pray for us to Yahweh your God, even for all this remnant, for we are left but a few of many, as your eyes see us,
42:3
וְיַגֶּד־לָ֙נוּ֙ יְהֹוָ֣ה אֱלֹהֶ֔יךָ אֶת־הַדֶּ֖רֶךְ אֲשֶׁ֣ר נֵֽלֶךְ־בָּ֑הּ וְאֶת־הַדָּבָ֖ר אֲשֶׁ֥ר נַעֲשֶֽׂה׃
καὶ ἐξήγαγον τὸν Ιεζονιαν υἱὸν Ιερεμιν υἱοῦ Χαβασιν καὶ τοὺς ἀδελφοὺς αὐτοῦ καὶ τοὺς υἱοὺς αὐτοῦ καὶ πᾶσαν τὴν οἰκίαν Αρχαβιν
et annuntiet nobis Dominus Deus tuus viam per quam pergamus, et verbum quod faciamus.
ወያይድዐነ፡ እግዚአብሔር፡ አምላክከ፡ ፍኖተ፡ እንተ፡ ባቲ፡ ነሐውር፡ ወነገረ፡ ዘንገብር።
that Yahweh your God may show us the way in which we should walk, and the things that we should do.”
42:4
וַיֹּ֨אמֶר אֲלֵיהֶ֜ם יִרְמְיָ֤הוּ הַנָּבִיא֙ שָׁמַ֔עְתִּי הִנְנִ֧י מִתְפַּלֵּ֛ל אֶל־יְהֹוָ֥ה אֱלֹהֵיכֶ֖ם כְּדִבְרֵיכֶ֑ם וְֽהָיָ֡ה כׇּֽל־הַדָּבָר֩ אֲשֶׁר־יַעֲנֶ֨ה יְהֹוָ֤ה אֶתְכֶם֙ אַגִּ֣יד לָכֶ֔ם לֹא־אֶמְנַ֥ע מִכֶּ֖ם דָּבָֽר׃
καὶ εἰσήγαγον αὐτοὺς εἰς οἶκον κυρίου εἰς τὸ παστοφόριον υἱῶν Ανανιου υἱοῦ Γοδολιου ἀνθρώπου τοῦ θεοῦ ὅ ἐστιν ἐγγὺς τοῦ οἴκου τῶν ἀρχόντων τῶν ἐπάνω τοῦ οἴκου Μαασαιου υἱοῦ Σελωμ τοῦ φυλάσσοντος τὴν αὐλήν
Dixit autem ad eos Jeremias propheta : Audivi. Ecce ego oro ad Dominum Deum vestrum secundum verba vestra : omne verbum quodcumque responderit mihi indicabo vobis, nec celabo vos quidquam.
ወይቤሎሙ፡ ኤርምያስ፡ ነቢይ፡ ሰማዕኩ፡ ናሁ፡ አነ፡ እጼሊ፡ ኀበ፡ እግዚአብሔር፡ አምላክክሙ፡ በከመ፡ ቃልክሙ፡ ወዘአውሥአኒ፡ ቃለ፡ እግዚአብሔር፡ አየድዐክሙ፡ ወኢየኀብእ፡ እምኔክሙ፡ ቃለ፡ ወኢዘሐደ።
Then Jeremiah the prophet said to them, “I have heard you. Behold, I will pray to Yahweh your God according to your words; and it will happen that whatever thing Yahweh answers you, I will declare it to you. I will keep nothing back from you.”
42:5
וְהֵ֙מָּה֙ אָמְר֣וּ אֶֽל־יִרְמְיָ֔הוּ יְהִ֤י יְהֹוָה֙ בָּ֔נוּ לְעֵ֖ד אֱמֶ֣ת וְנֶאֱמָ֑ן אִם־לֹ֡א כְּֽכׇל־הַ֠דָּבָ֠ר אֲשֶׁ֨ר יִֽשְׁלָחֲךָ֜ יְהֹוָ֧ה אֱלֹהֶ֛יךָ אֵלֵ֖ינוּ כֵּ֥ן נַעֲשֶֽׂה׃
καὶ ἔδωκα κατὰ πρόσωπον αὐτῶν κεράμιον οἴνου καὶ ποτήρια καὶ εἶπα πίετε οἶνον
Et illi dixerunt ad Jeremiam : Sit Dominus inter nos testis veritatis et fidei, si non juxta omne verbum in quo miserit te Dominus Deus tuus ad nos, sic faciemus :
ወይቤልዎ፡ እሙንቱ፡ ለኤርምያስ፡ ይኩን፡ እግዚአብሔር፡ ስምዓ፡ ጽድቅ፡ ወምእመነ፡ ከመ፡ ኵሉ፡ በከመ፡ ለአከከ፡ እግዚአብሔር፡ አምላክከ፡ ነገረ፡ ኀቤነ፡ ከማሁ፡ ንገብር።
Then they said to Jeremiah, “May Yahweh be a true and faithful witness among us, if we don’t do according to all the word with which Yahweh your God sends you to tell us.
42:6
אִם־ט֣וֹב וְאִם־רָ֔ע בְּק֣וֹל׀ יְהֹוָ֣ה אֱלֹהֵ֗ינוּ אֲשֶׁ֨ר (אנו) [אֲנַ֜חְנוּ] שֹׁלְחִ֥ים אֹתְךָ֛ אֵלָ֖יו נִשְׁמָ֑ע לְמַ֙עַן֙ אֲשֶׁ֣ר יִֽיטַב־לָ֔נוּ כִּ֣י נִשְׁמַ֔ע בְּק֖וֹל יְהֹוָ֥ה אֱלֹהֵֽינוּ׃ {פ}
καὶ εἶπαν οὐ μὴ πίωμεν οἶνον ὅτι Ιωναδαβ υἱὸς Ρηχαβ ὁ πατὴρ ἡμῶν ἐνετείλατο ἡμῖν λέγων οὐ μὴ πίητε οἶνον ὑμεῖς καὶ οἱ υἱοὶ ὑμῶν ἕως αἰῶνος
sive bonum est, sive malum, voci Domini Dei nostri, ad quem mittimus te, obediemus, ut bene sit nobis cum audierimus vocem Domini Dei nostri.
እመሂ፡ ሠናይ፡ ወእመሂ፡ እኩይ፡ ወቃለ፡ እግዚአብሔር፡ አምላክነ፡ ዘለሊነ፡ ለአክናከ፡ ኀቤሁ፡ ንሰምዕ፡ ከመ፡ ይኩን፡ ሠናይ፡ ላዕሌነ፡ እስመ፡ ንሰምዕ፡ ቃለ፡ እግዚአብሔር፡ አምላክነ።
Whether it is good, or whether it is bad, we will obey the voice of Yahweh our God, to whom we send you; that it may be well with us, when we obey the voice of Yahweh our God.”
42:7
וַיְהִ֕י מִקֵּ֖ץ עֲשֶׂ֣רֶת יָמִ֑ים וַיְהִ֥י דְבַר־יְהֹוָ֖ה אֶֽל־יִרְמְיָֽהוּ׃
καὶ οἰκίαν οὐ μὴ οἰκοδομήσητε καὶ σπέρμα οὐ μὴ σπείρητε καὶ ἀμπελὼν οὐκ ἔσται ὑμῖν ὅτι ἐν σκηναῖς οἰκήσετε πάσας τὰς ἡμέρας ὑμῶν ὅπως ἂν ζήσητε ἡμέρας πολλὰς ἐπὶ τῆς γῆς ἐφ’ ἧς διατρίβετε ὑμεῖς ἐπ’ αὐτῆς
Cum autem completi essent decem dies, factum est verbum Domini ad Jeremiam,
ወኮነ፡ እምድኅረ፡ ዐሡር፡ ዕለት፡ ቃለ፡ እግዚአብሔር፡ ኀበ፡ ኤርምያስ።
After ten days, Yahweh’s word came to Jeremiah.
42:8
וַיִּקְרָ֗א אֶל־יֽוֹחָנָן֙ בֶּן־קָרֵ֔חַ וְאֶ֛ל כׇּל־שָׂרֵ֥י הַחֲיָלִ֖ים אֲשֶׁ֣ר אִתּ֑וֹ וּ֨לְכׇל־הָעָ֔ם לְמִקָּטֹ֖ן וְעַד־גָּדֽוֹל׃
καὶ ἠκούσαμεν τῆς φωνῆς Ιωναδαβ τοῦ πατρὸς ἡμῶν πρὸς τὸ μὴ πιεῖν οἶνον πάσας τὰς ἡμέρας ἡμῶν ἡμεῖς καὶ αἱ γυναῖκες ἡμῶν καὶ οἱ υἱοὶ ἡμῶν καὶ αἱ θυγατέρες ἡμῶν
vocavitque Johanan filium Caree, et omnes principes bellatorum qui erant cum eo, et universum populum, a minimo usque ad magnum.
ወጸውዖ፡ ለዮሐናን፡ ወልደ፡ ቃርሔ፡ ወለኵሉ፡ መላእክተ፡ ኃይል፡ እለ፡ ምስሌሁ፡ ወለኵሉ፡ ሕዝብ፡ ንኡስ፡ ወዓቢይ።
Then he called Johanan the son of Kareah, and all the captains of the forces who were with him, and all the people from the least even to the greatest,
42:9
וַיֹּ֣אמֶר אֲלֵיהֶ֔ם כֹּה־אָמַ֥ר יְהֹוָ֖ה אֱלֹהֵ֣י יִשְׂרָאֵ֑ל אֲשֶׁ֨ר שְׁלַחְתֶּ֤ם אֹתִי֙ אֵלָ֔יו לְהַפִּ֥יל תְּחִנַּתְכֶ֖ם לְפָנָֽיו׃
καὶ πρὸς τὸ μὴ οἰκοδομεῖν οἰκίας τοῦ κατοικεῖν ἐκεῖ καὶ ἀμπελὼν καὶ ἀγρὸς καὶ σπέρμα οὐκ ἐγένετο ἡμῖν
Et dixit ad eos : Haec dicit Dominus Deus Israël, ad quem misistis me ut prosternerem preces vestras in conspectu ejus :
ወይቤሎሙ፡ ከመዝ፡ ይቤ፡ እግዚአብሔር፡ አምላከ፡ እስራኤል፡ በእንተ፡ ዘፈነውክሙኒ፡ ኀቤሁ፡ ከመ፡ ይደቅ፡ ሣህልክሙ፡ ቅድሜሁ።
and said to them, “Yahweh, the God of Israel, to whom you sent me to present your supplication before him, says:
42:10
אִם־שׁ֤וֹב תֵּֽשְׁבוּ֙ בָּאָ֣רֶץ הַזֹּ֔את וּבָנִ֤יתִי אֶתְכֶם֙ וְלֹ֣א אֶהֱרֹ֔ס וְנָטַעְתִּ֥י אֶתְכֶ֖ם וְלֹ֣א אֶתּ֑וֹשׁ כִּ֤י נִחַ֙מְתִּי֙ אֶל־הָ֣רָעָ֔ה אֲשֶׁ֥ר עָשִׂ֖יתִי לָכֶֽם׃
καὶ ᾠκήσαμεν ἐν σκηναῖς καὶ ἠκούσαμεν καὶ ἐποιήσαμεν κατὰ πάντα ἃ ἐνετείλατο ἡμῖν Ιωναδαβ ὁ πατὴρ ἡμῶν
Si quiescentes manseritis in terra hac, aedificabo vos, et non destruam : plantabo, et non evellam : jam enim placatus sum super malo quod feci vobis.
እመ፡ ነቢረ፡ ነበርክሙ፡ ውስተዝ፡ ምድር፡ አሐንጸክሙ፡ ወኢይነሥተክሙ፡ ወእተክለክሙ፡ ወኢይመልሐክሙ፡ እስመ፡ ነሳሕኩ፡ እምእኩይ፡ ዘሐለይኩ፡ እግበር፡ ላዕሌክሙ።
‘If you will still live in this land, then I will build you, and not pull you down, and I will plant you, and not pluck you up; for I grieve over the distress that I have brought on you.
42:11
אַל־תִּֽירְא֗וּ מִפְּנֵי֙ מֶ֣לֶךְ בָּבֶ֔ל אֲשֶׁר־אַתֶּ֥ם יְרֵאִ֖ים מִפָּנָ֑יו אַל־תִּֽירְא֤וּ מִמֶּ֙נּוּ֙ נְאֻם־יְהֹוָ֔ה כִּֽי־אִתְּכֶ֣ם אָ֔נִי לְהוֹשִׁ֧יעַ אֶתְכֶ֛ם וּלְהַצִּ֥יל אֶתְכֶ֖ם מִיָּדֽוֹ׃
καὶ ἐγενήθη ὅτε ἀνέβη Ναβουχοδονοσορ ἐπὶ τὴν γῆν καὶ εἴπαμεν εἰσέλθατε καὶ εἰσέλθωμεν εἰς Ιερουσαλημ ἀπὸ προσώπου τῆς δυνάμεως τῶν Χαλδαίων καὶ ἀπὸ προσώπου τῆς δυνάμεως τῶν Ἀσσυρίων καὶ ᾠκοῦμεν ἐκεῖ
Nolite timere a facie regis Babylonis, quem vos pavidi formidatis : nolite metuere eum, dicit Dominus, quia vobiscum sum ego ut salvos vos faciam, et eruam de manu ejus :
ኢትፍርሁ፡ እምገጸ፡ ንጉሠ፡ ባቢሎን፡ ዘአንትሙ፡ ትፈርሁ፡ እምቅድመ፡ ገጹ፡ ኢትፍርህዎ፡ ይቤ፡ እግዚአብሔር፡ እስመ፡ ምስሌክሙ፡ አነ፡ ከመ፡ አድኅንክሙ፡ ወእባልሕክሙ፡ እምእዴሁ።
Don’t be afraid of the king of Babylon, of whom you are afraid. Don’t be afraid of him,’ says Yahweh, ‘for I am with you to save you, and to deliver you from his hand.
42:12
וְאֶתֵּ֥ן לָכֶ֛ם רַחֲמִ֖ים וְרִחַ֣ם אֶתְכֶ֑ם וְהֵשִׁ֥יב אֶתְכֶ֖ם אֶל־אַדְמַתְכֶֽם׃
καὶ ἐγένετο λόγος κυρίου πρός με λέγων
et dabo vobis misericordias, et miserebor vestri, et habitare vos faciam in terra vestra.
ወእሁበክሙ፡ ሣህለ፡ ወእሠሀለክሙ፡ ወአነብረክሙ፡ ውስተ፡ ምድርክሙ።
I will grant you mercy, that he may have mercy on you, and cause you to return to your own land.
42:13
וְאִם־אֹמְרִ֣ים אַתֶּ֔ם לֹ֥א נֵשֵׁ֖ב בָּאָ֣רֶץ הַזֹּ֑את לְבִלְתִּ֣י שְׁמֹ֔עַ בְּק֖וֹל יְהֹוָ֥ה אֱלֹהֵיכֶֽם׃
οὕτως λέγει κύριος πορεύου καὶ εἰπὸν ἀνθρώπῳ Ιουδα καὶ τοῖς κατοικοῦσιν Ιερουσαλημ οὐ μὴ λάβητε παιδείαν τοῦ ἀκούειν τοὺς λόγους μου
Si autem dixeritis vos : Non habitabimus in terra ista, nec audiemus vocem Domini Dei nostri,
ወእመሰ፡ ትቤሉ፡ አንትሙ፡ ኢንነብር፡ ውስተዛ፡ ምድር፡ ከመ፡ ኢንስማዕ፡ ቃለ፡ እግዚአብሔር፡ አምላክነ።
“‘But if you say, “We will not dwell in this land,” so that you don’t obey Yahweh your God’s voice,
42:14
לֵאמֹ֗ר לֹ֚א כִּ֣י אֶ֤רֶץ מִצְרַ֙יִם֙ נָב֔וֹא אֲשֶׁ֤ר לֹֽא־נִרְאֶה֙ מִלְחָמָ֔ה וְק֥וֹל שׁוֹפָ֖ר לֹ֣א נִשְׁמָ֑ע וְלַלֶּ֥חֶם לֹֽא־נִרְעָ֖ב וְשָׁ֥ם נֵשֵֽׁב׃
ἔστησαν ῥῆμα υἱοὶ Ιωναδαβ υἱοῦ Ρηχαβ ὃ ἐνετείλατο τοῖς τέκνοις αὐτοῦ πρὸς τὸ μὴ πιεῖν οἶνον καὶ οὐκ ἐπίοσαν καὶ ἐγὼ ἐλάλησα πρὸς ὑμᾶς ὄρθρου καὶ ἐλάλησα καὶ οὐκ ἠκούσατε
dicentes : Nequaquam, sed ad terram Aegypti pergemus, ubi non videbimus bellum, et clangorem tubae non audiemus, et famem non sustinebimus, et ibi habitabimus :
ዳእሙ፡ ንበውእ፡ ውስተ፡ ምድረ፡ ግብጽ፡ ወኢንሬኢ፡ ቀትለ፡ ወኢንሰምዕ፡ ቃለ፡ ቀርን፡ ወኢንጼነስ፡ እክለ፡ ወንነብር፡ ህየ።
saying, “No, but we will go into the land of Egypt, where we will see no war, nor hear the sound of the trumpet, nor have hunger of bread; and there we will dwell;”’
42:15
וְעַתָּ֕ה לָכֵ֛ן שִׁמְע֥וּ דְבַר־יְהֹוָ֖ה שְׁאֵרִ֣ית יְהוּדָ֑ה כֹּֽה־אָמַר֩ יְהֹוָ֨ה צְבָא֜וֹת אֱלֹהֵ֣י יִשְׂרָאֵ֗ל אִם־אַ֠תֶּ֠ם שׂ֣וֹם תְּשִׂמ֤וּן פְּנֵיכֶם֙ לָבֹ֣א מִצְרַ֔יִם וּבָאתֶ֖ם לָג֥וּר שָֽׁם׃
καὶ ἀπέστειλα πρὸς ὑμᾶς τοὺς παῖδάς μου τοὺς προφήτας λέγων ἀποστράφητε ἕκαστος ἀπὸ τῆς ὁδοῦ αὐτοῦ τῆς πονηρᾶς καὶ βελτίω ποιήσατε τὰ ἐπιτηδεύματα ὑμῶν καὶ οὐ πορεύσεσθε ὀπίσω θεῶν ἑτέρων τοῦ δουλεύειν αὐτοῖς καὶ οἰκήσετε ἐπὶ τῆς γῆς ἧς ἔδωκα ὑμῖν καὶ τοῖς πατράσιν ὑμῶν καὶ οὐκ ἐκλίνατε τὰ ὦτα ὑμῶν καὶ οὐκ ἠκούσατε
propter hoc nunc audite verbum Domini, reliquiae Juda : Haec dicit Dominus exercituum, Deus Israël : Si posueritis faciem vestram ut ingrediamini Aegyptum, et intraveritis ut ibi habitetis,
በእንተ፡ ዝንቱ፡ ስምዑ፡ ቃለ፡ እግዚአብሔር፡ ተረፈ፡ ይሁዳ፡ ከመዝ፡ ይቤ፡ እግዚአብሔር፡ አምላከ፡ እስራኤል፡ እስመ፡ አንትሙ፡ ወሀብክሙ፡ ገጽክሙ፡ ከመ፡ ትባኡ፡ ውስተ፡ ግብጽ፡ ወቦእክሙ፡ ከመ፡ ትንበሩ፡ ህየ።
now therefore hear Yahweh’s word, O remnant of Judah! Yahweh of Armies, the God of Israel, says, ‘If you indeed set your faces to enter into Egypt, and go to live there,
42:16
וְהָיְתָ֣ה הַחֶ֗רֶב אֲשֶׁ֤ר אַתֶּם֙ יְרֵאִ֣ים מִמֶּ֔נָּה שָׁ֛ם תַּשִּׂ֥יג אֶתְכֶ֖ם בְּאֶ֣רֶץ מִצְרָ֑יִם וְהָרָעָ֞ב אֲשֶׁר־אַתֶּ֣ם׀ דֹּאֲגִ֣ים מִמֶּ֗נּוּ שָׁ֣ם יִדְבַּ֧ק אַחֲרֵיכֶ֛ם מִצְרַ֖יִם וְשָׁ֥ם תָּמֻֽתוּ׃
καὶ ἔστησαν υἱοὶ Ιωναδαβ υἱοῦ Ρηχαβ τὴν ἐντολὴν τοῦ πατρὸς αὐτῶν ὁ δὲ λαὸς οὗτος οὐκ ἤκουσάν μου
gladius quem vos formidatis ibi comprehendet vos in terra Aegypti : et fames, pro qua estis solliciti, adhaerebit vobis in Aegypto, et ibi moriemini.
ይከውን፡ ኵናት፡ ዘአንትሙ፡ ትፈርሁ፡ እምቅድመ፡ ገጹ፡ በህየ፡ ይረክበክሙ፡ በምድረ፡ ግብጽ፡ ወረኃብኒ፡ ዘአንትሙ፡ ፈራህክሙ፡ እምኔሁ፡ ህየ፡ ይተሉ፡ ድኅሬክሙ፡ ግብጸ፡ ወበህየ፡ ትመውቱ።
then it will happen that the sword, which you fear, will overtake you there in the land of Egypt; and the famine, about which you are afraid, will follow close behind you there in Egypt; and you will die there.
42:17
וְיִֽהְי֣וּ כׇל־הָאֲנָשִׁ֗ים אֲשֶׁר־שָׂ֨מוּ אֶת־פְּנֵיהֶ֜ם לָב֤וֹא מִצְרַ֙יִם֙ לָג֣וּר שָׁ֔ם יָמ֕וּתוּ בַּחֶ֖רֶב בָּרָעָ֣ב וּבַדָּ֑בֶר וְלֹֽא־יִהְיֶ֤ה לָהֶם֙ שָׂרִ֣יד וּפָלִ֔יט מִפְּנֵי֙ הָרָעָ֔ה אֲשֶׁ֥ר אֲנִ֖י מֵבִ֥יא עֲלֵיהֶֽם׃
διὰ τοῦτο οὕτως εἶπεν κύριος ἰδοὺ ἐγὼ φέρω ἐπὶ Ιουδαν καὶ ἐπὶ τοὺς κατοικοῦντας Ιερουσαλημ πάντα τὰ κακά ἃ ἐλάλησα ἐπ’ αὐτούς
Omnesque viri qui posuerunt faciem suam ut ingrediantur Aegyptum, ut habitent ibi, morientur gladio, et fame, et peste : nullus de eis remanebit, nec effugiet a facie mali quod ego afferam super eos.
ወኮነ፡ ኵሎሙ፡ ዕደው፡ እለ፡ ረሰዩ፡ ገጾሙ፡ ከመ፡ ይሑሩ፡ ውስተ፡ ምድረ፡ ግብጽ፡ ይኅድሩ፡ ህየ፡ በኵናት፡ ወበረኃብ፡ ወበብድብድ፡ የኀልቁ፡ ወኢይድኅኑ፡ ወኢአሐዱ፡ እምእኩይ፡ ዘአነ፡ አመጽእ፡ ላዕሌሆሙ።
So will it be with all the men who set their faces to go into Egypt to live there. They will die by the sword, by the famine, and by the pestilence. None of them will remain or escape from the evil that I will bring on them.’
42:18
כִּי֩ כֹ֨ה אָמַ֜ר יְהֹוָ֣ה צְבָאוֹת֮ אֱלֹהֵ֣י יִשְׂרָאֵל֒ כַּאֲשֶׁר֩ נִתַּ֨ךְ אַפִּ֜י וַחֲמָתִ֗י עַל־יֹֽשְׁבֵי֙ יְר֣וּשָׁלַ֔͏ִם כֵּ֣ן תִּתַּ֤ךְ חֲמָתִי֙ עֲלֵיכֶ֔ם בְּבֹאֲכֶ֖ם מִצְרָ֑יִם וִהְיִיתֶ֞ם לְאָלָ֤ה וּלְשַׁמָּה֙ וְלִקְלָלָ֣ה וּלְחֶרְפָּ֔ה וְלֹא־תִרְא֣וּ ע֔וֹד אֶת־הַמָּק֖וֹם הַזֶּֽה׃
διὰ τοῦτο οὕτως εἶπεν κύριος ἐπειδὴ ἤκουσαν υἱοὶ Ιωναδαβ υἱοῦ Ρηχαβ τὴν ἐντολὴν τοῦ πατρὸς αὐτῶν ποιεῖν καθότι ἐνετείλατο αὐτοῖς ὁ πατὴρ αὐτῶν
Quia haec dicit Dominus exercituum, Deus Israël : Sicut conflatus est furor meus et indignatio mea super habitatores Jerusalem, sic conflabitur indignatio mea super vos cum ingressi fueritis Aegyptum : et eritis in jusjurandum, et in stuporem, et in maledictum, et in opprobrium, et nequaquam ultra videbitis locum istum.
እስመ፡ ከመዝ፡ ይቤ፡ እግዚአ፡ ኃያላን፡ አምላከ፡ እስራኤል፡ በከመ፡ ወረደ፡ መዐትየ፡ ወመቅሠፍትየ፡ ላዕለ፡ እለ፡ ይነብሩ፡ ኢየሩሳሌም፡ ከማሁ፡ ይወርድ፡ መዐትየ፡ ላዕሌክሙ፡ እምከመ፡ ቦእክሙ፡ ውስተ፡ ግብጽ፡ ወትከውኑ፡ ለመሐላ፡ ወለተነሥቶ፡ ወለመርገም፡ ወለጽዕለት፡ ወኢትሬእይዋ፡ ዳግመ፡ ለዛቲ፡ መካን።
For Yahweh of Armies, the God of Israel, says: ‘As my anger and my wrath has been poured out on the inhabitants of Jerusalem, so my wrath will be poured out on you, when you enter into Egypt; and you will be an object of horror, an astonishment, a curse, and a reproach; and you will see this place no more.’
42:19
דִּבֶּ֨ר יְהֹוָ֤ה עֲלֵיכֶם֙ שְׁאֵרִ֣ית יְהוּדָ֔ה אַל־תָּבֹ֖אוּ מִצְרָ֑יִם יָדֹ֙עַ֙ תֵּדְע֔וּ כִּֽי־הַעִידֹ֥תִי בָכֶ֖ם הַיּֽוֹם׃
οὐ μὴ ἐκλίπῃ ἀνὴρ τῶν υἱῶν Ιωναδαβ υἱοῦ Ρηχαβ παρεστηκὼς κατὰ πρόσωπόν μου πάσας τὰς ἡμέρας τῆς γῆς
Verbum Domini super vos, reliquiae Juda : Nolite intrare Aegyptum : scientes scietis, quia obtestatus sum vos hodie,
ከመዝ፡ ነበበ፡ እግዚአብሔር፡ ላዕሌክሙ፡ እለ፡ ተረፍክሙ፡ እምይሁዳ፡ ኢትባኡ፡ ውስተ፡ ግብጽ።
“Yahweh has spoken concerning you, remnant of Judah, ‘Don’t go into Egypt!’ Know certainly that I have testified to you today.
42:20
כִּ֣י (התעתים) [הִתְעֵיתֶם֮] בְּנַפְשׁוֹתֵיכֶם֒ כִּֽי־אַתֶּ֞ם שְׁלַחְתֶּ֣ם אֹתִ֗י אֶל־יְהֹוָ֤ה אֱלֹֽהֵיכֶם֙ לֵאמֹ֔ר הִתְפַּלֵּ֣ל בַּעֲדֵ֔נוּ אֶל־יְהֹוָ֖ה אֱלֹהֵ֑ינוּ וּכְכֹל֩ אֲשֶׁ֨ר יֹאמַ֜ר יְהֹוָ֧ה אֱלֹהֵ֛ינוּ כֵּ֥ן הַגֶּד־לָ֖נוּ וְעָשִֽׂינוּ׃
—
quia decepistis animas vestras. Vos enim misistis me ad Dominum Deum nostrum, dicentes : Ora pro nobis ad Dominum Deum nostrum, et juxta omnia quaecumque dixerit tibi Dominus Deus noster, sic annuntia nobis, et faciemus.
እስመ፡ ስሕትክሙ፡ በነፍስክሙ፡ እስመ፡ አንትሙኒ፡ ፈነውክሙኒ፡ ኀበ፡ እግዚአብሔር፡ አምላክሙ፡ እንዘ፡ ትብሉ፡ ጸሊ፡ ለነ፡ ኀበ፡ እግዚአብሔር፡ አምላክነ፡ ወበከመ፡ ኵሉ፡ ዘነበበከ፡ እግዚአብሔር፡ አምላክነ፡ ንግረነ፡ ወከማሁ፡ ንገብር።
For you have dealt deceitfully against your own souls; for you sent me to Yahweh your God, saying, ‘Pray for us to Yahweh our God; and according to all that Yahweh our God says, so declare to us, and we will do it.’
42:21
וָאַגִּ֥ד לָכֶ֖ם הַיּ֑וֹם וְלֹ֣א שְׁמַעְתֶּ֗ם בְּקוֹל֙ יְהֹוָ֣ה אֱלֹהֵיכֶ֔ם וּלְכֹ֖ל אֲשֶׁר־שְׁלָחַ֥נִי אֲלֵיכֶֽם׃
—
Et annuntiavi vobis hodie, et non audistis vocem Domini Dei vestri super universis pro quibus misit me ad vos.
ወነገርኩክሙ፡ ዮም፡ ወኢሰማዕክሙ፡ ቃለ፡ እግዚአብሔር፡ አምላክክሙ፡ በከመ፡ ኵሉ፡ ዘለአከኒ፡ ኀቤክሙ።
I have declared it to you today; but you have not obeyed Yahweh your God’s voice in anything for which he has sent me to you.
42:22
וְעַתָּה֙ יָדֹ֣עַ תֵּדְע֔וּ כִּ֗י בַּחֶ֛רֶב בָּרָעָ֥ב וּבַדֶּ֖בֶר תָּמ֑וּתוּ בַּמָּקוֹם֙ אֲשֶׁ֣ר חֲפַצְתֶּ֔ם לָב֖וֹא לָג֥וּר שָֽׁם׃ {ס}
—
Nunc ergo scientes scietis quia gladio, et fame, et peste moriemini in loco ad quem voluistis intrare ut habitaretis ibi.
ወይእዜኒ፡ አእምሮ፡ አእምሩ፡ ከመ፡ በኵናት፡ ወበረኃብ፡ ወበሞት፡ ተኀልቁ፡ በመካን፡ ኀበ፡ አንትሙ፡ መከርክሙ፡ ትባኡ፡ ትኅድሩ፡ ህየ።
Now therefore know certainly that you will die by the sword, by the famine, and by the pestilence in the place where you desire to go to live.”
