29:1
וְאֵ֙לֶּה֙ דִּבְרֵ֣י הַסֵּ֔פֶר אֲשֶׁ֥ר שָׁלַ֛ח יִרְמְיָ֥ה הַנָּבִ֖יא מִירוּשָׁלָ֑͏ִם אֶל־יֶ֜תֶר זִקְנֵ֣י הַגּוֹלָ֗ה וְאֶל־הַכֹּהֲנִ֤ים וְאֶל־הַנְּבִיאִים֙ וְאֶל־כׇּל־הָעָ֔ם אֲשֶׁ֨ר הֶגְלָ֧ה נְבוּכַדְנֶאצַּ֛ר מִירוּשָׁלַ֖͏ִם בָּבֶֽלָה׃
ἐπὶ τοὺς ἀλλοφύλους
Et haec sunt verba libri quem misit Jeremias propheta de Jerusalem ad reliquias seniorum transmigrationis, et ad sacerdotes, et ad prophetas, et ad omnem populum quem traduxerat Nabuchodonosor de Jerusalem in Babylonem,
ወከመዝ፡ ውእቱ፡ ነገረ፡ መጽሐፍ፡ ዘፈነወ፡ ኤርምያስ፡ ነቢይ፡ እምኢየሩሳሌም፡ ኀበ፡ እለ፡ ተርፉ፡ ረበናት፡ እለ፡ አፍለስዎሙ፡ ወኀበ፡ ካህናት፡ ወሐሳውያን፡ ነቢያት፡ ወኀበ፡ ኵሉ፡ ሕዝብ፡ ዘአፍለሰ፡ ናቡከደነፆር፡ ንጉሠ፡ ባቢሎን፡ እምኢየሩሳሌም።
Now these are the words of the letter that Jeremiah the prophet sent from Jerusalem to the residue of the elders of the captivity, and to the priests, to the prophets, and to all the people whom Nebuchadnezzar had carried away captive from Jerusalem to Babylon,
29:2
אַחֲרֵ֣י צֵ֣את יְכׇנְיָֽה־הַ֠מֶּ֠לֶךְ וְהַגְּבִירָ֨ה וְהַסָּרִיסִ֜ים שָׂרֵ֨י יְהוּדָ֧ה וִירוּשָׁלַ֛͏ִם וְהֶחָרָ֥שׁ וְהַמַּסְגֵּ֖ר מִירוּשָׁלָֽ͏ִם׃
τάδε λέγει κύριος ἰδοὺ ὕδατα ἀναβαίνει ἀπὸ βορρᾶ καὶ ἔσται εἰς χειμάρρουν κατακλύζοντα καὶ κατακλύσει γῆν καὶ τὸ πλήρωμα αὐτῆς πόλιν καὶ τοὺς κατοικοῦντας ἐν αὐτῇ καὶ κεκράξονται οἱ ἄνθρωποι καὶ ἀλαλάξουσιν ἅπαντες οἱ κατοικοῦντες τὴν γῆν
postquam egressus est Jechonias rex, et domina, et eunuchi, et principes Juda et Jerusalem, et faber et inclusor, de Jerusalem,
እምድኅረ፡ ወፅአ፡ ኢኮንያን፡ ንጉሥ፡ ወነጋሥያንት፡ ወሕፅዋን፡ ወመላእክተ፡ ይሁዳ፡ ወኢየሩሳሌም፡ ወኵሉ፡ አግዐዚ፡ ወሙቁሓን፡ ወኬነት፡ እምኢየሩሳሌም።
(after Jeconiah the king, the queen mother, the eunuchs, the princes of Judah and Jerusalem, the craftsmen, and the smiths had departed from Jerusalem),
29:3
בְּיַד֙ אֶלְעָשָׂ֣ה בֶן־שָׁפָ֔ן וּגְמַרְיָ֖ה בֶּן־חִלְקִיָּ֑ה אֲשֶׁ֨ר שָׁלַ֜ח צִדְקִיָּ֣ה מֶלֶךְ־יְהוּדָ֗ה אֶל־נְבוּכַדְנֶאצַּ֛ר מֶ֥לֶךְ בָּבֶ֖ל בָּבֶ֥לָה לֵאמֹֽר׃
ἀπὸ φωνῆς ὁρμῆς αὐτοῦ ἀπὸ τῶν ὁπλῶν τῶν ποδῶν αὐτοῦ καὶ ἀπὸ σεισμοῦ τῶν ἁρμάτων αὐτοῦ ἤχου τροχῶν αὐτοῦ οὐκ ἐπέστρεψαν πατέρες ἐφ’ υἱοὺς αὐτῶν ἀπὸ ἐκλύσεως χειρῶν αὐτῶν
in manu Elasa filii Saphan, et Gamariae filii Helciae, quos misit Sedecias rex Juda ad Nabuchodonosor regem Babylonis in Babylonem, dicens :
በእደ፡ ኤልሳዕ፡ ወልደ፡ ሳፋን፡ ወገማርዩ፡ ወልደ፡ ኬልቅዩ፡ እለ፡ ፈነወ፡ ሴዴቅያስ፡ ንጉሠ፡ ይሁዳ፡ ኀበ፡ ናቡከደነፆር፡ ንጉሠ፡ ባቢሎን፡ ውስተ፡ ባቢሎን፡ እንዘ፡ ይብል።
by the hand of Elasah the son of Shaphan and Gemariah the son of Hilkiah, (whom Zedekiah king of Judah sent to Babylon to Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon). It said:
29:4
כֹּ֥ה אָמַ֛ר יְהֹוָ֥ה צְבָא֖וֹת אֱלֹהֵ֣י יִשְׂרָאֵ֑ל לְכׇ֨ל־הַגּוֹלָ֔ה אֲשֶׁר־הִגְלֵ֥יתִי מִירוּשָׁלַ֖͏ִם בָּבֶֽלָה׃
ἐν τῇ ἡμέρᾳ τῇ ἐρχομένῃ τοῦ ἀπολέσαι πάντας τοὺς ἀλλοφύλους καὶ ἀφανιῶ τὴν Τύρον καὶ τὴν Σιδῶνα καὶ πάντας τοὺς καταλοίπους τῆς βοηθείας αὐτῶν ὅτι ἐξολεθρεύσει κύριος τοὺς καταλοίπους τῶν νήσων
Haec dicit Dominus exercituum, Deus Israël, omni transmigrationi quam transtuli de Jerusalem in Babylonem :
ከመዝ፡ ይቤ፡ እግዚአብሔር፡ እግዚአ፡ ኃያላን፡ አምላከ፡ እስራኤል፡ ለኵሉ፡ ፈላስያን፡ እለ፡ አፍለስኩ፡ እምኢየሬሳሌም፡ ውስተ፡ ባቢሎን።
Yahweh of Armies, the God of Israel, says to all the captives whom I have caused to be carried away captive from Jerusalem to Babylon:
29:5
בְּנ֥וּ בָתִּ֖ים וְשֵׁ֑בוּ וְנִטְע֣וּ גַנּ֔וֹת וְאִכְל֖וּ אֶת־פִּרְיָֽן׃
ἥκει φαλάκρωμα ἐπὶ Γάζαν ἀπερρίφη Ἀσκαλὼν καὶ οἱ κατάλοιποι Ενακιμ ἕως τίνος κόψεις
Aedificate domos, et habitate : et plantate hortos, et comedite fructum eorum.
ሕንጹአ፡ አብያተ፡ ወንበሩ፡ ወትክሉ፡ አቅማሓተ፡ ወብልዑ፡ ፍሬሁ።
“Build houses and dwell in them. Plant gardens and eat their fruit.
29:6
קְח֣וּ נָשִׁ֗ים וְהוֹלִ֘ידוּ֮ בָּנִ֣ים וּבָנוֹת֒ וּקְח֨וּ לִבְנֵיכֶ֜ם נָשִׁ֗ים וְאֶת־בְּנֽוֹתֵיכֶם֙ תְּנ֣וּ לַאֲנָשִׁ֔ים וְתֵלַ֖דְנָה בָּנִ֣ים וּבָנ֑וֹת וּרְבוּ־שָׁ֖ם וְאַל־תִּמְעָֽטוּ׃
ἡ μάχαιρα τοῦ κυρίου ἕως τίνος οὐχ ἡσυχάσεις ἀποκατάστηθι εἰς τὸν κολεόν σου ἀνάπαυσαι καὶ ἐπάρθητι
Accipite uxores, et generate filios et filias : et date filiis vestris uxores, et filias vestras date viris, et pariant filios et filias : et multiplicamini ibi, et nolite esse pauci numero.
ወአውስቡ፡ ብእሲተ፡ ወለዱ፡ ደቂቀ፡ ወአዋልደ፡ ወንሥኡ፡ አንስተ፡ ለደቂቅክሙ፡ ወሀቡ፡ አዋልዲክሙ፡ ለዕደው፡ ወይለዱ፡ ደቂቀ፡ ወአዋልደ፡ ወብዝኁ፡ በህየ፡ ወኢትውሐዱ።
Take wives and father sons and daughters. Take wives for your sons, and give your daughters to husbands, that they may bear sons and daughters. Multiply there, and don’t be diminished.
29:7
וְדִרְשׁ֞וּ אֶת־שְׁל֣וֹם הָעִ֗יר אֲשֶׁ֨ר הִגְלֵ֤יתִי אֶתְכֶם֙ שָׁ֔מָּה וְהִתְפַּֽלְל֥וּ בַעֲדָ֖הּ אֶל־יְהֹוָ֑ה כִּ֣י בִשְׁלוֹמָ֔הּ יִהְיֶ֥ה לָכֶ֖ם שָׁלֽוֹם׃
πῶς ἡσυχάσει καὶ κύριος ἐνετείλατο αὐτῇ ἐπὶ τὴν Ἀσκαλῶνα καὶ ἐπὶ τὰς παραθαλασσίους ἐπὶ τὰς καταλοίπους ἐπεγερθῆναι
Et quaerite pacem civitatis ad quam transmigrare vos feci, et orate pro ea ad Dominum, quia in pace illius erit pax vobis.
ኅሥሡ፡ ሰላማ፡ ለሀገር፡ ኀበ፡ አፍለስኩክሙ፡ ህየ፡ ወጸልዩ፡ በእንቲአሃ፡ ኀበ፡ እግዚአብሔር፡ እስመ፡ በሰላመ፡ ዚአሃ፡ ይከውን፡ ሰላምክሙ።
Seek the peace of the city where I have caused you to be carried away captive, and pray to Yahweh for it; for in its peace you will have peace.”
29:8
כִּי֩ כֹ֨ה אָמַ֜ר יְהֹוָ֤ה צְבָאוֹת֙ אֱלֹהֵ֣י יִשְׂרָאֵ֔ל אַל־יַשִּׁ֧יאוּ לָכֶ֛ם נְבִיאֵיכֶ֥ם אֲשֶׁר־בְּקִרְבְּכֶ֖ם וְקֹסְמֵיכֶ֑ם וְאַֽל־תִּשְׁמְעוּ֙ אֶל־חֲלֹמֹ֣תֵיכֶ֔ם אֲשֶׁ֥ר אַתֶּ֖ם מַחְלְמִֽים׃
—
Haec enim dicit Dominus exercituum, Deus Israël : Non vos seducant prophetae vestri qui sunt in medio vestrum, et divini vestri, et ne attendatis ad somnia vestra quae vos somniatis :
እስመ፡ ከመዝ፡ ይቤ፡ እግዚአብሔር፡ እግዚአ፡ ኃያላን፡ አምላከ፡ እስራኤል፡ ኢያስሕቱክሙአ፡ ነቢያት፡ እለ፡ ኀቤክሙ፡ ወኢያስሕቱክሙአ፡ ሰብአ፡ ሠገልክሙ፡ ወኢትስምዕዎሙ፡ ለሐላምያኒክሙ፡ እለ፡ የሐልሙ፡ ለክሙ።
For Yahweh of Armies, the God of Israel says: “Don’t let your prophets who are among you and your diviners deceive you. Don’t listen to your dreams which you cause to be dreamed.
29:9
כִּ֣י בְשֶׁ֔קֶר הֵ֛ם נִבְּאִ֥ים לָכֶ֖ם בִּשְׁמִ֑י לֹ֥א שְׁלַחְתִּ֖ים נְאֻם־יְהֹוָֽה׃ {ס}
—
quia falso ipsi prophetant vobis in nomine meo, et non misi eos, dicit Dominus.
እስመ፡ ዓመፃ፡ ይትኔበዩ፡ ለክሙ፡ በስምየ፡ ወኢለአክዎሙ፡ ይቤ፡ እግዚአብሔር።
For they prophesy falsely to you in my name. I have not sent them,” says Yahweh.
29:10
כִּֽי־כֹה֙ אָמַ֣ר יְהֹוָ֔ה כִּ֠י לְפִ֞י מְלֹ֧את לְבָבֶ֛ל שִׁבְעִ֥ים שָׁנָ֖ה אֶפְקֹ֣ד אֶתְכֶ֑ם וַהֲקִמֹתִ֤י עֲלֵיכֶם֙ אֶת־דְּבָרִ֣י הַטּ֔וֹב לְהָשִׁ֣יב אֶתְכֶ֔ם אֶל־הַמָּק֖וֹם הַזֶּֽה׃
—
Quia haec dicit Dominus : Cum coeperint impleri in Babylone septuaginta anni, visitabo vos, et suscitabo super vos verbum meum bonum, ut reducam vos ad locum istum.
እስመ፡ ከመዝ፡ ይቤ፡ እግዚአብሔር፡ አመ፡ ፈጸምክሙአ፡ ፸ዓመተ፡ ውስተ፡ ባቢሎን፡ እሔውጸክሙ፡ ወአቀውም፡ ቃልየ፡ ኀበክሙ፡ ዘሠናይ፡ ወአሰውጠክሙ፡ ውስተ፡ ዝንቱ፡ ብሔርክሙ።
For Yahweh says, “After seventy years are accomplished for Babylon, I will visit you and perform my good word toward you, in causing you to return to this place.
29:11
כִּי֩ אָנֹכִ֨י יָדַ֜עְתִּי אֶת־הַמַּחֲשָׁבֹ֗ת אֲשֶׁ֧ר אָנֹכִ֛י חֹשֵׁ֥ב עֲלֵיכֶ֖ם נְאֻם־יְהֹוָ֑ה מַחְשְׁב֤וֹת שָׁלוֹם֙ וְלֹ֣א לְרָעָ֔ה לָתֵ֥ת לָכֶ֖ם אַחֲרִ֥ית וְתִקְוָֽה׃
—
Ego enim scio cogitationes quas ego cogito super vos, ait Dominus, cogitationes pacis et non afflictionis, ut dem vobis finem et patientiam.
እስመ፡ አነ፡ አአምር፡ ሕሊና፡ ዘአነ፡ እሔሊ፡ ለክሙ፡ ይቤ፡ እግዚአብሔር፡ ሕሊና፡ ሰላም፡ ወአኮ፡ እኩየ፡ ከመ፡ አሀብክሙ፡ ዘንተ።
For I know the thoughts that I think toward you,” says Yahweh, “thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you hope and a future.
29:12
וּקְרָאתֶ֤ם אֹתִי֙ וַֽהֲלַכְתֶּ֔ם וְהִתְפַּלַּלְתֶּ֖ם אֵלָ֑י וְשָׁמַעְתִּ֖י אֲלֵיכֶֽם׃
—
Et invocabitis me, et ibitis : et orabitis me, et ego exaudiam vos.
ትጼውዑኒ፡ ወተሐውሩ፡ ወትጼልዩ፡ ኀቤየ፡ ወእሰምዐክሙ።
You shall call on me, and you shall go and pray to me, and I will listen to you.
29:13
וּבִקַּשְׁתֶּ֥ם אֹתִ֖י וּמְצָאתֶ֑ם כִּ֥י תִדְרְשֻׁ֖נִי בְּכׇל־לְבַבְכֶֽם׃
—
Quaeretis me, et invenietis, cum quaesieritis me in toto corde vestro.
ተኀሥሡኒ፡ ወትረክቡኒ፡ እምከመ፡ በኵሉ፡ ልብክሙ፡ ተኀሥሡኒ።
You shall seek me and find me, when you search for me with all your heart.
29:14
וְנִמְצֵ֣אתִי לָכֶם֮ נְאֻם־יְהֹוָה֒ וְשַׁבְתִּ֣י אֶת־[שְׁבוּתְכֶ֗ם] (שביתכם) וְקִבַּצְתִּ֣י אֶ֠תְכֶ֠ם מִֽכׇּל־הַגּוֹיִ֞ם וּמִכׇּל־הַמְּקוֹמ֗וֹת אֲשֶׁ֨ר הִדַּ֧חְתִּי אֶתְכֶ֛ם שָׁ֖ם נְאֻם־יְהֹוָ֑ה וַהֲשִׁבֹתִ֣י אֶתְכֶ֔ם אֶ֨ל־הַמָּק֔וֹם אֲשֶׁר־הִגְלֵ֥יתִי אֶתְכֶ֖ם מִשָּֽׁם׃
—
Et inveniar a vobis, ait Dominus : et reducam captivitatem vestram, et congregabo vos de universis gentibus et de cunctis locis ad quae expuli vos, dicit Dominus, et reverti vos faciam de loco ad quem transmigrare vos feci.
ወአስተርኢ፡ ለክሙ፡ ይቤ፡ እግዚአብሔር፡ ወእመይጥ፡ ፄዋክሙ፡ ወአስተጋብአክሙ፡ እምኵሉ፡ አሕዛብ፡ ወእምኵሉ፡ በሐውርት፡ ኀበ፡ ዘረውኩክሙ፡ ህየ፡ ይቤ፡ እግዚአብሔር፡ ወአገብአክሙ፡ ኀበ፡ መካን፡ እምኀበ፡ አፍለስኩክሙ፡ እምህየ።
I will be found by you,” says Yahweh, “and I will turn again your captivity, and I will gather you from all the nations, and from all the places where I have driven you,” says Yahweh. “I will bring you again to the place from where I caused you to be carried away captive.”
29:15
כִּ֖י אֲמַרְתֶּ֑ם הֵקִ֨ים לָ֧נוּ יְהֹוָ֛ה נְבִאִ֖ים בָּבֶֽלָה׃ {ס}
—
Quia dixistis : Suscitavit nobis Dominus prophetas in Babylone :
እስመ፡ ትብሉ፡ አቀመ፡ ለነ፡ እግዚአብሔር፡ ነቢያተ፡ በባቢሎን።
Because you have said, “Yahweh has raised us up prophets in Babylon,”
29:16
כִּי־כֹ֣ה׀ אָמַ֣ר יְהֹוָ֗ה אֶל־הַמֶּ֙לֶךְ֙ הַיּוֹשֵׁב֙ אֶל־כִּסֵּ֣א דָוִ֔ד וְאֶ֨ל־כׇּל־הָעָ֔ם הַיּוֹשֵׁ֖ב בָּעִ֣יר הַזֹּ֑את אֲחֵיכֶ֕ם אֲשֶׁ֛ר לֹֽא־יָצְא֥וּ אִתְּכֶ֖ם בַּגּוֹלָֽה׃ {ס}
—
quia haec dicit Dominus ad regem qui sedet super solium David, et ad omnem populum habitatorem urbis hujus, ad fratres vestros qui non sunt egressi vobiscum in transmigrationem :
እስመ፡ ከመዝ፡ ይቤ፡ እግዚአብሔር፡ ለንጉሥ፡ ዘይነብር፡ ዲበ፡ መንበረ፡ ዳዊት፡ ወላዕለ፡ ሕዝብ፡ እለ፡ ይነብሩ፡ ውስተ፡ ዛሀገር፡ ለአኃዊክሙ፡ እለ፡ ኢወፅኡ፡ ምስሌክሙ፡ ውስተ፡ ፍልሰት።
Yahweh says concerning the king who sits on David’s throne, and concerning all the people who dwell in this city, your brothers who haven’t gone with you into captivity,
29:17
כֹּ֤ה אָמַר֙ יְהֹוָ֣ה צְבָא֔וֹת הִנְנִי֙ מְשַׁלֵּ֣חַ בָּ֔ם אֶת־הַחֶ֖רֶב אֶת־הָרָעָ֣ב וְאֶת־הַדָּ֑בֶר וְנָתַתִּ֣י אוֹתָ֗ם כַּתְּאֵנִים֙ הַשֹּׁ֣עָרִ֔ים אֲשֶׁ֥ר לֹא־תֵאָכַ֖לְנָה מֵרֹֽעַ׃
—
haec dicit Dominus exercituum : Ecce mittam in eos gladium, et famem, et pestem : et ponam eos quasi ficus malas, quae comedi non possunt eo quod pessimae sint :
ከመዝ፡ ይቤ፡ እግዚአብሔር፡ እግዚአ፡ ኃያላን፡ ናሁ፡ አነ፡ እፌኑ፡ ላዕሌሆሙ፡ መጥባሕተ፡ ወረኃበ፡ ወብድብደ፡ ወእሜጥዎሙ፡ ከመ፡ በለሰ፡ ሱዓሪም፡ ዘኢይትበላዕ፡ እምእከዩ።
Yahweh of Armies says: “Behold, I will send on them the sword, the famine, and the pestilence, and will make them like rotten figs that can’t be eaten, they are so bad.
29:18
וְרָֽדַפְתִּי֙ אַֽחֲרֵיהֶ֔ם בַּחֶ֖רֶב בָּרָעָ֣ב וּבַדָּ֑בֶר וּנְתַתִּ֨ים (לזועה) [לְזַעֲוָ֜ה] לְכֹ֣ל׀ מַמְלְכ֣וֹת הָאָ֗רֶץ לְאָלָ֤ה וּלְשַׁמָּה֙ וְלִשְׁרֵקָ֣ה וּלְחֶרְפָּ֔ה בְּכׇל־הַגּוֹיִ֖ם אֲשֶׁר־הִדַּחְתִּ֥ים שָֽׁם׃
—
et persequar eos in gladio, et in fame, et in pestilentia : et dabo eos in vexationem universis regnis terrae : in maledictionem, et in stuporem, et in sibilum, et in opprobrium cunctis gentibus ad quas ego ejeci eos,
ወእዴግኖሙ፡ ድኅሬሆሙ፡ በኲናት፡ ወበረኃብ፡ ወበብድብድ፡ ፤ወእሜጥዎሙ፡ ውስተ፡ ኵሉ፡ ነገሥተ፡ ምድር፡ ካልኣን፡ ለመሐላ፡ ወለሙስና፡ ወለተፋጽዮ፡ ወለጽዕለት፡ በኀበ፡ ኵሉ፡ አሕዛብ፡ ኀበ፡ ዘረውክዎሙ፡ ህየ።
I will pursue after them with the sword, with the famine, and with the pestilence, and will deliver them to be tossed back and forth among all the kingdoms of the earth, to be an object of horror, an astonishment, a hissing, and a reproach among all the nations where I have driven them,
29:19
תַּ֛חַת אֲשֶֽׁר־לֹא־שָׁמְע֥וּ אֶל־דְּבָרַ֖י נְאֻם־יְהֹוָ֑ה אֲשֶׁר֩ שָׁלַ֨חְתִּי אֲלֵיהֶ֜ם אֶת־עֲבָדַ֤י הַנְּבִאִים֙ הַשְׁכֵּ֣ם וְשָׁלֹ֔חַ וְלֹ֥א שְׁמַעְתֶּ֖ם נְאֻם־יְהֹוָֽה׃
—
eo quod non audierint verba mea, dicit Dominus, quae misit ad eos per servos meos prophetas, de nocte consurgens et mittens : et non audistis, dicit Dominus.
በእንተ፡ ዘኢሰምዑ፡ ቃልየ፡ ይቤ፡ እግዚአብሔር፡ እስመ፡ ፈነውኩ፡ አግብርትየ፡ ነቢያተ፡ በጽባሕ፡ ወፈነውኩ፡ ወኢሰምዑኒ፡ ይቤ፡ እግዚአብሔር።
because they have not listened to my words,” says Yahweh, “with which I sent to them my servants the prophets, rising up early and sending them; but you would not hear,” says Yahweh.
29:20
וְאַתֶּ֖ם שִׁמְע֣וּ דְבַר־יְהֹוָ֑ה כׇּ֨ל־הַגּוֹלָ֔ה אֲשֶׁר־שִׁלַּ֥חְתִּי מִירוּשָׁלַ֖͏ִם בָּבֶֽלָה׃ {ס}
—
Vos ergo audite verbum Domini, omnis transmigratio quam emisi de Jerusalem in Babylonem.
ወአንትሙኒ፡ ስምዑኒ፡ ቃለ፡ እግዚአብሔር፡ ኵልክሙ፡ ፈላስያን፡ እለ፡ ፈነውኩ፡ እምኢየሩሳሌም፡ ውስተ፡ ባቢሎን።
Hear therefore Yahweh’s word, all you captives whom I have sent away from Jerusalem to Babylon.
29:21
כֹּֽה־אָמַר֩ יְהֹוָ֨ה צְבָא֜וֹת אֱלֹהֵ֣י יִשְׂרָאֵ֗ל אֶל־אַחְאָ֤ב בֶּן־קֽוֹלָיָה֙ וְאֶל־צִדְקִיָּ֣הוּ בֶן־מַֽעֲשֵׂיָ֔ה הַֽנִּבְּאִ֥ים לָכֶ֛ם בִּשְׁמִ֖י שָׁ֑קֶר הִנְנִ֣י׀ נֹתֵ֣ן אֹתָ֗ם בְּיַד֙ נְבֽוּכַדְרֶאצַּ֣ר מֶֽלֶךְ־בָּבֶ֔ל וְהִכָּ֖ם לְעֵינֵיכֶֽם׃
—
Haec dicit Dominus exercituum, Deus Israël, ad Achab filium Coliae, et ad Sedeciam filium Maasiae, qui prophetant vobis in nomine meo mendaciter : Ecce ego tradam eos in manus Nabuchodonosor regis Babylonis, et percutiet eos in oculis vestris :
ከመዝ፡ ይቤ፡ እግዚአብሔር፡ እግዚአ፡ ኃያላን፡ አምላከ፡ እስራኤል፡ ላዕለ፡ አክያብ፡ ወልደ፡ ቆልያ፡ ወላዕለ፡ ሴዴቅያስ፡ ወልደ፡ ማሴው፡ እለ፡ ይትኔበዩ፡ ለክሙ፡ በስምየ፡ በዓመፃ፡ ናሁ፡ አነ፡ እሜጥዎሙ፡ ውስተ፡ እደ፡ ናቡከደነፆር፡ ንጉሠ፡ ባቢሎን፡ ወይቀትሎሙ፡ በቅድመ፡ አዕይንቲክሙ።
Yahweh of Armies, the God of Israel, says concerning Ahab the son of Kolaiah, and concerning Zedekiah the son of Maaseiah, who prophesy a lie to you in my name: “Behold, I will deliver them into the hand of Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon; and he will kill them before your eyes.
29:22
וְלֻקַּ֤ח מֵהֶם֙ קְלָלָ֔ה לְכֹל֙ גָּל֣וּת יְהוּדָ֔ה אֲשֶׁ֥ר בְּבָבֶ֖ל לֵאמֹ֑ר יְשִֽׂמְךָ֤ יְהֹוָה֙ כְּצִדְקִיָּ֣הוּ וּכְאֶחָ֔ב אֲשֶׁר־קָלָ֥ם מֶֽלֶךְ־בָּבֶ֖ל בָּאֵֽשׁ׃
—
et assumetur ex eis maledictio omni transmigrationi Juda quae est in Babylone, dicentium : Ponat te Dominus sicut Sedeciam et sicut Achab, quos frixit rex Babylonis in igne :
ወይነሥኡ፡ እምኔሆሙ፡ መርገመ፡ በኵሉ፡ ፈላስያነ፡ ይሁዳ፡ ዘውስተ፡ ባቢሎን፡ ወይብሉ፡ ይረሲከ፡ እግዚአብሔር፡ ከመ፡ ረሰዮሙ፡ ለአክያብ፡ ወለሴዴቅያስ፡ እለ፡ ጤገኖሙ፡ ንጉሠ፡ ባቢሎን፡ በእሳት።
A curse will be taken up about them by all the captives of Judah who are in Babylon, saying, ‘Yahweh make you like Zedekiah and like Ahab, whom the king of Babylon roasted in the fire;’
29:23
יַ֡עַן אֲשֶׁר֩ עָשׂ֨וּ נְבָלָ֜ה בְּיִשְׂרָאֵ֗ל וַיְנַֽאֲפוּ֙ אֶת־נְשֵׁ֣י רֵֽעֵיהֶ֔ם וַיְדַבְּר֨וּ דָבָ֤ר בִּשְׁמִי֙ שֶׁ֔קֶר אֲשֶׁ֖ר ל֣וֹא צִוִּיתִ֑ם וְאָנֹכִ֛י (הוידע) [הַיּוֹדֵ֥עַ] וָעֵ֖ד נְאֻם־יְהֹוָֽה׃ {ס}
—
pro eo quod fecerint stultitiam in Israël, et moechati sunt in uxores amicorum suorum, et locuti sunt verbum in nomine meo mendaciter, quod non mandavi eis. Ego sum judex et testis, dicit Dominus.
እስመ፡ ገብሩ፡ እኩየ፡ ላዕለ፡ እስራኤል፡ ወዘመዉ፡ በአንስትያ፡ ቢጾሙ፡ ወነገሩ፡ ነገረ፡ ሐሰት፡ በስምየ፡ ዘኢአዘዝክዎሙ፡ ወአነ፡ እዛለፎሙ፡ ይቤ፡ እግዚአብሔር።
because they have done foolish things in Israel, and have committed adultery with their neighbors’ wives, and have spoken words in my name falsely, which I didn’t command them. I am he who knows, and am witness,” says Yahweh.
29:24
וְאֶל־שְׁמַעְיָ֥הוּ הַנֶּחֱלָמִ֖י תֹּאמַ֥ר לֵאמֹֽר׃

Et ad Semeiam Nehelamiten dices :
ወትብሎ፡ ለሳሚያ፡ ኤልማዊ።
Concerning Shemaiah the Nehelamite you shall speak, saying,
29:25
כֹּֽה־אָמַ֞ר יְהֹוָ֧ה צְבָא֛וֹת אֱלֹהֵ֥י יִשְׂרָאֵ֖ל לֵאמֹ֑ר יַ֡עַן אֲשֶׁ֣ר אַתָּה֩ שָׁלַ֨חְתָּ בְשִׁמְכָ֜ה סְפָרִ֗ים אֶל־כׇּל־הָעָם֙ אֲשֶׁ֣ר בִּירוּשָׁלַ֔͏ִם וְאֶל־צְפַנְיָ֤ה בֶן־מַֽעֲשֵׂיָה֙ הַכֹּהֵ֔ן וְאֶ֥ל כׇּל־הַכֹּהֲנִ֖ים לֵאמֹֽר׃
—
Haec dicit Dominus exercituum, Deus Israël : Pro eo quod misisti in nomine tuo libros ad omnem populum qui est in Jerusalem, et ad Sophoniam filium Maasiae sacerdotem, et ad universos sacerdotes, dicens :
ከመዝ፡ ይቤ፡ እግዚአብሔር፡ ጸባኦት፡ አምላከ፡ እስራኤል፡ እስመ፡ አንተ፡ ፈነውከ፡ መጻሕፍተ፡ በስምከ፡ ኀበ፡ ኵሉ፡ ሕዝብ፡ ዘውስተ፡ ኢየሩሳሌም፡ ወኀበ፡ ሶፎንያስ፡ ወልደ፡ ማሴው፡ ካህን፡ ወኀበ፡ ኵሎሙ፡ ካህናት፡ ወትቤ።
“Yahweh of Armies, the God of Israel, says, ‘Because you have sent letters in your own name to all the people who are at Jerusalem, and to Zephaniah the son of Maaseiah, the priest, and to all the priests, saying,
29:26
יְהֹוָ֞ה נְתָנְךָ֣ כֹהֵ֗ן תַּ֚חַת יְהוֹיָדָ֣ע הַכֹּהֵ֔ן לִֽהְי֤וֹת פְּקִדִים֙ בֵּ֣ית יְהֹוָ֔ה לְכׇל־אִ֥ישׁ מְשֻׁגָּ֖ע וּמִתְנַבֵּ֑א וְנָתַתָּ֥ה אֹת֛וֹ אֶל־הַמַּהְפֶּ֖כֶת וְאֶל־הַצִּינֹֽק׃
—
Dominus dedit te sacerdotem pro Jojade sacerdote, ut sis dux in domo Domini, super omnem virum arreptitium et prophetantem, ut mittas eum in nervum et in carcerem :
እግዚአብሔር፡ ሤመከ፡ ካህነ፡ ህየንተ፡ ዮዳሔ፡ ካህን፡ ሊቀ፡ በውስተ፡ ቤተ፡ እግዚአብሔር፡ ለኵሉ፡ ሰብእ፡ ዘይትኔበይ፡ ወለኵሉ፡ ሰብእ፡ ዘይትዌረድ፡ ከመ፡ ትዕጽዎ፡ ወታሥጥሞ፡ ውስተ፡ ውኂዝ።
“Yahweh has made you priest in the place of Jehoiada the priest, that there may be officers in Yahweh’s house, for every man who is crazy and makes himself a prophet, that you should put him in the stocks and in shackles.
29:27
וְעַתָּ֗ה לָ֚מָּה לֹ֣א גָעַ֔רְתָּ בְּיִרְמְיָ֖הוּ הָֽעַנְּתֹתִ֑י הַמִּתְנַבֵּ֖א לָכֶֽם׃
—
et nunc quare non increpasti Jeremiam Anathothiten, qui prophetat vobis ?
ወይእዜኒ፡ ለምንት፡ ዘኢገሠጽኮ፡ ለኤርምያስ፡ ዘእምአናቶት፡ ዘተነበየ፡ ለክሙ።
Now therefore, why have you not rebuked Jeremiah of Anathoth, who makes himself a prophet to you,
29:28
כִּ֣י עַל־כֵּ֞ן שָׁלַ֥ח אֵלֵ֛ינוּ בָּבֶ֥ל לֵאמֹ֖ר אֲרֻכָּ֣ה הִ֑יא בְּנ֤וּ בָתִּים֙ וְשֵׁ֔בוּ וְנִטְע֣וּ גַנּ֔וֹת וְאִכְל֖וּ אֶת־פְּרִיהֶֽן׃
—
Quia super hoc misit in Babylonem ad nos, dicens : Longum est : aedificate domos, et habitate : et plantate hortos, et comedite fructus eorum.
አኮኑ፡ በበይኑ፡ ዝንቱ፡ ለአከ፡ ኀቤነ፡ ውስተ፡ ባቢሎን፡ ወይቤ፡ ሕንጹ፡ አብያተ፡ ወንበሩ፡ ወትክሉ፡ አቅማሓተ፡ ወብልዑ፡ ፍሬሁ።
because he has sent to us in Babylon, saying, The captivity is long. Build houses, and dwell in them. Plant gardens, and eat their fruit?”’”
29:29
וַיִּקְרָ֛א צְפַנְיָ֥ה הַכֹּהֵ֖ן אֶת־הַסֵּ֣פֶר הַזֶּ֑ה בְּאׇזְנֵ֖י יִרְמְיָ֥הוּ הַנָּבִֽיא׃ {פ}
—
Legit ergo Sophonias sacerdos librum istum in auribus Jeremiae prophetae.
ወአንበባ፡ ሶፎንያስ፡ ካህን፡ ለይእቲ፡ መጽሐፍ፡ ውስተ፡ እዝነ፡ ኤርምያስ፡ ነቢይ።
Zephaniah the priest read this letter in the hearing of Jeremiah the prophet.
29:30
וַֽיְהִי֙ דְּבַר־יְהֹוָ֔ה אֶֽל־יִרְמְיָ֖הוּ לֵאמֹֽר׃
—
Et factum est verbum Domini ad Jeremiam, dicens :
ወኮነ፡ ቃለ፡ እግዚአብሔር፡ ኀበ፡ ኤርምያስ፡ ወይቤሎ።
Then Yahweh’s word came to Jeremiah, saying,
29:31
שְׁלַ֤ח עַל־כׇּל־הַגּוֹלָה֙ לֵאמֹ֔ר כֹּ֚ה אָמַ֣ר יְהֹוָ֔ה אֶל־שְׁמַעְיָ֖ה הַנֶּחֱלָמִ֑י יַ֡עַן אֲשֶׁר֩ נִבָּ֨א לָכֶ֜ם שְׁמַעְיָ֗ה וַֽאֲנִי֙ לֹ֣א שְׁלַחְתִּ֔יו וַיַּבְטַ֥ח אֶתְכֶ֖ם עַל־שָֽׁקֶר׃
—
Mitte ad omnem transmigrationem, dicens : Haec dicit Dominus ad Semeiam Nehelamiten : Pro eo quod prophetavit vobis Semeias, et ego non misi eum, et fecit vos confidere in mendacio,
ለአክ፡ ኀበ፡ ኵሉ፡ ፈካስያን፡ እንዘ፡ ትብል፡ ከመዝ፡ ይቤ፡ እግዚአብሔር፡ ለሳምያ፡ ኤልማዊ፡ እስመ፡ ተነበየ፡ ለክሙ፡ ሳሚያ፡ ዘኢለአክዎ፡ አነ፡ ወአሰፈወክሙ፡ ሐሰተ።
“Send to all of the captives, saying, ‘Yahweh says concerning Shemaiah the Nehelamite: “Because Shemaiah has prophesied to you, and I didn’t send him, and he has caused you to trust in a lie,”
29:32
לָכֵ֞ן כֹּֽה־אָמַ֣ר יְהֹוָ֗ה הִנְנִ֨י פֹקֵ֜ד עַל־שְׁמַעְיָ֣ה הַנֶּחֱלָמִי֮ וְעַל־זַרְעוֹ֒ לֹא־יִהְיֶ֨ה ל֜וֹ אִ֣ישׁ׀ יוֹשֵׁ֣ב׀ בְּתוֹךְ־הָעָ֣ם הַזֶּ֗ה וְלֹֽא־יִרְאֶ֥ה בַטּ֛וֹב אֲשֶׁר־אֲנִ֥י עֹשֶֽׂה־לְעַמִּ֖י נְאֻם־יְהֹוָ֑ה כִּֽי־סָרָ֥ה דִבֶּ֖ר עַל־יְהֹוָֽה׃ {פ}
—
idcirco haec dicit Dominus : Ecce ego visitabo super Semeiam Nehelamiten, et super semen ejus : non erit ei vir sedens in medio populi hujus, et non videbit bonum quod ego faciam populo meo, ait Dominus, quia praevaricationem locutus est adversus Dominum.
በእንተ፡ ዝንቱ፡ ከመዝ፡ ይቤ፡ እግዚአብሔር፡ ናሁ፡ አነ፡ እዋህዮሙ፡ ለሳሚያ፡ ኤልማዊ፡ ወለዘርኡ፡ ወኢይሄሉ፡ ሎቱ፡ ብእሲ፡ ዘይነብር፡ ማእከለ፡ ዝንቱ፡ ሕዝብ፡ ወዘይሬኢ፡ ሠናይተ፡ ዘአነ፡ እገብር፡ ለሕዝብየ፡ ይቤ፡ እግዚዘብሔር፡ እስመ፡ ዓመፃ፡ ተናገረ፡ ላዕለ፡ እግዚአብሔር።
therefore Yahweh says, “Behold, I will punish Shemaiah the Nehelamite and his offspring. He will not have a man to dwell among this people. He won’t see the good that I will do to my people,” says Yahweh, “because he has spoken rebellion against Yahweh.”’”
