32:1
וַיַּשְׁכֵּ֨ם לָבָ֜ן בַּבֹּ֗קֶר וַיְנַשֵּׁ֧ק לְבָנָ֛יו וְלִבְנוֹתָ֖יו וַיְבָ֣רֶךְ אֶתְהֶ֑ם וַיֵּ֛לֶךְ וַיָּ֥שׇׁב לָבָ֖ן לִמְקֹמֽוֹ׃
ἀναστὰς δὲ Λαβαν τὸ πρωὶ κατεφίλησεν τοὺς υἱοὺς αὐτοῦ καὶ τὰς θυγατέρας αὐτοῦ καὶ εὐλόγησεν αὐτούς καὶ ἀποστραφεὶς Λαβαν ἀπῆλθεν εἰς τὸν τόπον αὐτοῦ
Jacob quoque abiit itinere quo coeperat : fueruntque ei obviam angeli Dei.
ወተንሥአ ፡ ላባ ፡ በጽባሕ ፡ ወሰዐመ ፡ አዋልዲሁ ፡ ወደቂቆ ፡ ወባረኮሙ ፡ ወተመይጠ ፡ ላባ ፡ ብሔሮ ፡ ወሖረ ።
Jacob went on his way, and the angels of God met him.
32:2
וְיַעֲקֹ֖ב הָלַ֣ךְ לְדַרְכּ֑וֹ וַיִּפְגְּעוּ־ב֖וֹ מַלְאֲכֵ֥י אֱלֹהִֽים׃
καὶ Ιακωβ ἀπῆλθεν εἰς τὴν ἑαυτοῦ ὁδόν καὶ ἀναβλέψας εἶδεν παρεμβολὴν θεοῦ παρεμβεβληκυῖαν καὶ συνήντησαν αὐτῷ οἱ ἄγγελοι τοῦ θεοῦ
Quos cum vidisset, ait : Castra Dei sunt haec : et appellavit nomen loci illius Mahanaim, id est, Castra.
ወያዕቆብኒ ፡ ገብአ ፡ ውስተ ፡ ፍኖቱ ፡ ወነጸረ ፡ በአዕይንቲሁ ፡ ያዕቆብ ፡ ወርእየ ፡ ተዓይነ ፡ እግዚአብሔር ፡ ኅዱረ ፡ ወተራከብዎ ፡ መላእክተ ፡ እግዚአብሔር ።
When he saw them, Jacob said, “This is God’s army.” He called the name of that place Mahanaim.
32:3
וַיֹּ֤אמֶר יַעֲקֹב֙ כַּאֲשֶׁ֣ר רָאָ֔ם מַחֲנֵ֥ה אֱלֹהִ֖ים זֶ֑ה וַיִּקְרָ֛א שֵֽׁם־הַמָּק֥וֹם הַה֖וּא מַֽחֲנָֽיִם׃ {פ}
εἶπεν δὲ Ιακωβ ἡνίκα εἶδεν αὐτούς Παρεμβολὴ θεοῦ αὕτη καὶ ἐκάλεσεν τὸ ὄνομα τοῦ τόπου ἐκείνου Παρεμβολαί
Misit autem et nuntios ante se ad Esau fratrem suum in terram Seir, in regionem Edom :
ወይቤ ፡ ያዕቆብ ፡ ሶበ ፡ ርእየ ፡ ተዓይነ ፡ እግዚአብሔር ፡ ይእቲ ፡ ዛቲ ፡ ወሰመዮ ፡ ስሞ ፡ ለውእቱ ፡ ብሔር ፡ ተዓይን ።
Jacob sent messengers in front of him to Esau, his brother, to the land of Seir, the field of Edom.
32:4
וַיִּשְׁלַ֨ח יַעֲקֹ֤ב מַלְאָכִים֙ לְפָנָ֔יו אֶל־עֵשָׂ֖ו אָחִ֑יו אַ֥רְצָה שֵׂעִ֖יר שְׂדֵ֥ה אֱדֽוֹם׃
ἀπέστειλεν δὲ Ιακωβ ἀγγέλους ἔμπροσθεν αὐτοῦ πρὸς Ησαυ τὸν ἀδελφὸν αὐτοῦ εἰς γῆν Σηιρ εἰς χώραν Εδωμ
praecepitque eis, dicens : Sic loquimini domino meo Esau : Haec dicit frater tuus Jacob : Apud Laban peregrinatus sum, et fui usque in praesentem diem.
ወፈነወ ፡ ያዕቆብ ፡ ሐዋርያ ፡ ኀበ ፡ ዔሳው ፡ እኁሁ ፡ ብሔረ ፡ ሴይር ፡ ውስተ ፡ ምድረ ፡ ኤዶም ።
He commanded them, saying, “This is what you shall tell my lord, Esau: ‘This is what your servant, Jacob, says. I have lived as a foreigner with Laban, and stayed until now.
32:5
וַיְצַ֤ו אֹתָם֙ לֵאמֹ֔ר כֹּ֣ה תֹאמְר֔וּן לַֽאדֹנִ֖י לְעֵשָׂ֑ו כֹּ֤ה אָמַר֙ עַבְדְּךָ֣ יַעֲקֹ֔ב עִם־לָבָ֣ן גַּ֔רְתִּי וָאֵחַ֖ר עַד־עָֽתָּה׃
καὶ ἐνετείλατο αὐτοῖς λέγων οὕτως ἐρεῖτε τῷ κυρίῳ μου Ησαυ οὕτως λέγει ὁ παῖς σου Ιακωβ μετὰ Λαβαν παρῴκησα καὶ ἐχρόνισα ἕως τοῦ νῦν
Habeo boves, et asinos, et oves, et servos, et ancillas : mittoque nunc legationem ad dominum meum, ut inveniam gratiam in conspectu tuo.
ወአዘዞሙ ፡ ወይቤሎሙ ፡ ከመዝ ፡ በልዎ ፡ ለዔሳው ፡ እግዚእየ ፡ ከመዝ ፡ ይቤ ፡ ገብርከ ፡ ያዕቆብ ፡ ኀበ ፡ ላባአ ፡ ነበርኩ ፡ ወጐንዶይኩ ፡ እስከ ፡ ዮም ።
I have cattle, donkeys, flocks, male servants, and female servants. I have sent to tell my lord, that I may find favor in your sight.’”
32:6
וַֽיְהִי־לִי֙ שׁ֣וֹר וַחֲמ֔וֹר צֹ֖אן וְעֶ֣בֶד וְשִׁפְחָ֑ה וָֽאֶשְׁלְחָה֙ לְהַגִּ֣יד לַֽאדֹנִ֔י לִמְצֹא־חֵ֖ן בְּעֵינֶֽיךָ׃
καὶ ἐγένοντό μοι βόες καὶ ὄνοι καὶ πρόβατα καὶ παῖδες καὶ παιδίσκαι καὶ ἀπέστειλα ἀναγγεῖλαι τῷ κυρίῳ μου Ησαυ ἵνα εὕρῃ ὁ παῖς σου χάριν ἐναντίον σου
Reversique sunt nuntii ad Jacob, dicentes : Venimus ad Esau fratrem tuum, et ecce properat tibi in occursum cum quadringentis viris.
ወአጥረይኩ ፡ አእዱገ ፡ (ወአግማለ ፡) ወአልህምተ ፡ [ወአባግዐ ፡] ወአግብርተ ፡ ወአእማተ ፡ ወፈነውኩአ ፡ ይዜንውዎ ፡ ለእግዚእየ ፡ ዔሳውአ ፡ ከመ ፡ እርከብ ፡ ሞገሰ ፡ በቅድሜከ ፡ አነአ ፡ ገብርከአ ።
The messengers returned to Jacob, saying, “We came to your brother Esau. He is coming to meet you, and four hundred men are with him.”
32:7
וַיָּשֻׁ֙בוּ֙ הַמַּלְאָכִ֔ים אֶֽל־יַעֲקֹ֖ב לֵאמֹ֑ר בָּ֤אנוּ אֶל־אָחִ֙יךָ֙ אֶל־עֵשָׂ֔ו וְגַם֙ הֹלֵ֣ךְ לִקְרָֽאתְךָ֔ וְאַרְבַּע־מֵא֥וֹת אִ֖ישׁ עִמּֽוֹ׃
καὶ ἀνέστρεψαν οἱ ἄγγελοι πρὸς Ιακωβ λέγοντες ἤλθομεν πρὸς τὸν ἀδελφόν σου Ησαυ καὶ ἰδοὺ αὐτὸς ἔρχεται εἰς συνάντησίν σοι καὶ τετρακόσιοι ἄνδρες μετ’ αὐτοῦ
Timuit Jacob valde : et perterritus divisit populum qui secum erat, greges quoque et oves, et boves, et camelos, in duas turmas,
ወገብኡ ፡ ኀቤሁ ፡ ለያዕቆብ ፡ እሙንቱ ፡ ሐዋርያት ፡ እለ ፡ ፈነወ ፡ ወይቤልዎ ፡ ሖርነ ፡ ኀበ ፡ ዔሳው ፡ እኁከ ፡ ወናሁ ፡ መጽአ ፡ ይትቀበልከ ፡ ወ፬፻ዕደው ፡ ምስሌሁ ።
Then Jacob was greatly afraid and was distressed. He divided the people who were with him, along with the flocks, the herds, and the camels, into two companies.
32:8
וַיִּירָ֧א יַעֲקֹ֛ב מְאֹ֖ד וַיֵּ֣צֶר ל֑וֹ וַיַּ֜חַץ אֶת־הָעָ֣ם אֲשֶׁר־אִתּ֗וֹ וְאֶת־הַצֹּ֧אן וְאֶת־הַבָּקָ֛ר וְהַגְּמַלִּ֖ים לִשְׁנֵ֥י מַחֲנֽוֹת׃
ἐφοβήθη δὲ Ιακωβ σφόδρα καὶ ἠπορεῖτο καὶ διεῖλεν τὸν λαὸν τὸν μετ’ αὐτοῦ καὶ τοὺς βόας καὶ τὰ πρόβατα εἰς δύο παρεμβολάς
dicens : Si venerit Esau ad unam turmam, et percusserit eam, alia turma, quae relicta est, salvabitur.
ወፈርሀ ፡ ጥቀ ፡ ያዕቆብ ፡ ወኀጥአ ፡ ዘይገብር ፡ ወነፈቆ ፡ ለሕዝብ ፡ ዘምስሌሁ ፡ ወአባግዐኒ ፡ ወአልህምተ ፡ ወገብሮሙ ፡ ክልኤ ፡ ትዕይንተ ።
He said, “If Esau comes to the one company, and strikes it, then the company which is left will escape.”
32:9
וַיֹּ֕אמֶר אִם־יָב֥וֹא עֵשָׂ֛ו אֶל־הַמַּחֲנֶ֥ה הָאַחַ֖ת וְהִכָּ֑הוּ וְהָיָ֛ה הַמַּחֲנֶ֥ה הַנִּשְׁאָ֖ר לִפְלֵיטָֽה׃
καὶ εἶπεν Ιακωβ ἐὰν ἔλθῃ Ησαυ εἰς παρεμβολὴν μίαν καὶ ἐκκόψῃ αὐτήν ἔσται ἡ παρεμβολὴ ἡ δευτέρα εἰς τὸ σῴζεσθαι
Dixitque Jacob : Deus patris mei Abraham, et Deus patris mei Isaac : Domine qui dixisti mihi : Revertere in terram tuam, et in locum nativitatis tuae, et benefaciam tibi :
ወይቤ ፡ ያዕቆብ ፡ ለእመ ፡ መጽአ ፡ ዔሳው ፡ ውስተ ፡ አሐቲ ፡ ትዕይንት ፡ ወቀተላ ፡ ትድኅን ፡ ካልእት ፡ ትዕይንት ።
Jacob said, “God of my father Abraham, and God of my father Isaac, Yahweh, who said to me, ‘Return to your country, and to your relatives, and I will do you good,’
32:10
וַיֹּ֘אמֶר֮ יַעֲקֹב֒ אֱלֹהֵי֙ אָבִ֣י אַבְרָהָ֔ם וֵאלֹהֵ֖י אָבִ֣י יִצְחָ֑ק יְהֹוָ֞ה הָאֹמֵ֣ר אֵלַ֗י שׁ֧וּב לְאַרְצְךָ֛ וּלְמוֹלַדְתְּךָ֖ וְאֵיטִ֥יבָה עִמָּֽךְ׃
εἶπεν δὲ Ιακωβ ὁ θεὸς τοῦ πατρός μου Αβρααμ καὶ ὁ θεὸς τοῦ πατρός μου Ισαακ κύριε ὁ εἴπας μοι ἀπότρεχε εἰς τὴν γῆν τῆς γενέσεώς σου καὶ εὖ σε ποιήσω
minor sum cunctis miserationibus tuis, et veritate tua quam explevisti servo tuo. In baculo meo transivi Jordanem istum : et nunc cum duabus turmis regredior.
ወይቤ ፡ ያዕቆብ ፡ ውእቱ ፡ አምላከ ፡ አበዊየ ፡ አምላከ ፡ አብርሃም ፡ ወአምላከ ፡ ይስሐቅ ፡ ውእቱ ፡ እግዚአብሔር ፡ ዘይቤለኒ ፡ ሑር ፡ ውስተ ፡ ብሔር ፡ ኀበ ፡ ተወለድከ ፡ ወኣሤኒ ፡ ላዕሌከ ፤
I am not worthy of the least of all the loving kindnesses, and of all the truth, which you have shown to your servant; for with just my staff I crossed over this Jordan; and now I have become two companies.
32:11
קָטֹ֜נְתִּי מִכֹּ֤ל הַחֲסָדִים֙ וּמִכׇּל־הָ֣אֱמֶ֔ת אֲשֶׁ֥ר עָשִׂ֖יתָ אֶת־עַבְדֶּ֑ךָ כִּ֣י בְמַקְלִ֗י עָבַ֙רְתִּי֙ אֶת־הַיַּרְדֵּ֣ן הַזֶּ֔ה וְעַתָּ֥ה הָיִ֖יתִי לִשְׁנֵ֥י מַחֲנֽוֹת׃
ἱκανοῦταί μοι ἀπὸ πάσης δικαιοσύνης καὶ ἀπὸ πάσης ἀληθείας ἧς ἐποίησας τῷ παιδί σου ἐν γὰρ τῇ ῥάβδῳ μου διέβην τὸν Ιορδάνην τοῦτον νῦν δὲ γέγονα εἰς δύο παρεμβολάς
Erue me de manu fratris mei Esau, quia valde eum timeo : ne forte veniens percutiat matrem cum filiis.
ያሠኒ ፡ እንከሰ ፡ ላዕሌየ ፡ ወበኵሉ ፡ ጽድቅ ፡ ወርትዕ ፡ ዘገበርከ ፡ ላዕሌየ ፡ [ለገብርከ ፡] እስመ ፡ በበትርየ ፡ ዐደውክዎ ፡ ለዝ ፡ ዮርዳንስ ፡ ወይእዜሰ ፡ ኮንኩ ፡ ክልኤ ፡ ተዓይነ ።
Please deliver me from the hand of my brother, from the hand of Esau; for I fear him, lest he come and strike me and the mothers with the children.
32:12
הַצִּילֵ֥נִי נָ֛א מִיַּ֥ד אָחִ֖י מִיַּ֣ד עֵשָׂ֑ו כִּֽי־יָרֵ֤א אָנֹכִי֙ אֹת֔וֹ פֶּן־יָב֣וֹא וְהִכַּ֔נִי אֵ֖ם עַל־בָּנִֽים׃
ἐξελοῦ με ἐκ χειρὸς τοῦ ἀδελφοῦ μου Ησαυ ὅτι φοβοῦμαι ἐγὼ αὐτόν μήποτε ἐλθὼν πατάξῃ με καὶ μητέρα ἐπὶ τέκνοις
Tu locutus es quod benefaceres mihi, et dilatares semen meum sicut arenam maris, quae prae multitudine numerari non potest.
አድኀነኒ ፡ እምነ ፡ እዴሁ ፡ ለዔሳው ፡ እኁየ ፡ እስመ ፡ እፈርህ ፡ አነ ፡ እምኔሁ ፡ ላዕለ ፡ ርእስየ ፡ ከመ ፡ ኢይምጻእ ፡ ወኢይቅትለኒ ፡ ወኢይቅትል ፡ እመ ፡ ምስለ ፡ ውሉዳ ።
You said, ‘I will surely do you good, and make your offspring as the sand of the sea, which can’t be counted because there are so many.’”
32:13
וְאַתָּ֣ה אָמַ֔רְתָּ הֵיטֵ֥ב אֵיטִ֖יב עִמָּ֑ךְ וְשַׂמְתִּ֤י אֶֽת־זַרְעֲךָ֙ כְּח֣וֹל הַיָּ֔ם אֲשֶׁ֥ר לֹא־יִסָּפֵ֖ר מֵרֹֽב׃
σὺ δὲ εἶπας καλῶς εὖ σε ποιήσω καὶ θήσω τὸ σπέρμα σου ὡς τὴν ἄμμον τῆς θαλάσσης ἣ οὐκ ἀριθμηθήσεται ἀπὸ τοῦ πλήθους
Cumque dormisset ibi nocte illa, separavit de his quae habebat, munera Esau fratri suo,
ወትቤለኒ ፡ ኣሤኒ ፡ ላዕሌከ ፡ ወእገብሮ ፡ ለ[ዘርእከ ፡] ከመ ፡ ኆጻ ፡ ባሕር ፡ ዘኢይትኌለቍ ፡ እምነ ፡ ብዝኁ ።
He stayed there that night, and took from that which he had with him a present for Esau, his brother:
32:14
וַיָּ֥לֶן שָׁ֖ם בַּלַּ֣יְלָה הַה֑וּא וַיִּקַּ֞ח מִן־הַבָּ֧א בְיָד֛וֹ מִנְחָ֖ה לְעֵשָׂ֥ו אָחִֽיו׃
καὶ ἐκοιμήθη ἐκεῖ τὴν νύκτα ἐκείνην καὶ ἔλαβεν ὧν ἔφερεν δῶρα καὶ ἐξαπέστειλεν Ησαυ τῷ ἀδελφῷ αὐτοῦ
capras ducentas, hircos viginti, oves ducentas, et arietes viginti,
ወቤተ ፡ ህየ ፡ በይእቲ ፡ ሌሊት ፡ ወአውጽአ ፡ አምኃ ፡ ዘይወስዱ ፡ ለዔሳው ፡ እኁሁ ፤
two hundred female goats and twenty male goats, two hundred ewes and twenty rams,
32:15
עִזִּ֣ים מָאתַ֔יִם וּתְיָשִׁ֖ים עֶשְׂרִ֑ים רְחֵלִ֥ים מָאתַ֖יִם וְאֵילִ֥ים עֶשְׂרִֽים׃
αἶγας διακοσίας τράγους εἴκοσι πρόβατα διακόσια κριοὺς εἴκοσι
camelos foetas cum pullis suis triginta, vaccas quadraginta, et tauros viginti, asinas viginti et pullos earum decem.
ክልኤ ፡ ምእተ ፡ አጣሌ ፡ ወአብሓኰ ፡ አጣሊ ፡ ዕሥራ ፡ ወአባግዐ ፡ ፪፻ወአብሓኰ ፡ አባግዕ ፡ [፳] ፤
thirty milk camels and their colts, forty cows, ten bulls, twenty female donkeys and ten foals.
32:16
גְּמַלִּ֧ים מֵינִיק֛וֹת וּבְנֵיהֶ֖ם שְׁלֹשִׁ֑ים פָּר֤וֹת אַרְבָּעִים֙ וּפָרִ֣ים עֲשָׂרָ֔ה אֲתֹנֹ֣ת עֶשְׂרִ֔ים וַעְיָרִ֖ם עֲשָׂרָֽה׃
καμήλους θηλαζούσας καὶ τὰ παιδία αὐτῶν τριάκοντα βόας τεσσαράκοντα ταύρους δέκα ὄνους εἴκοσι καὶ πώλους δέκα
Et misit per manus servorum suorum singulos seorsum greges, dixitque pueris suis : Antecedite me, et sit spatium inter gregem et gregem.
ወናቀተ ፡ [፴]ምስለ ፡ እጐሊሆን ፡ [ወ]እጐልተ ፡ [፵]ወአስዋረ ፡ ፲ወአእዱገ ፡ [፳]ወዕዋለ ፡ ፲ ።
He delivered them into the hands of his servants, every herd by itself, and said to his servants, “Pass over before me, and put a space between herd and herd.”
32:17
וַיִּתֵּן֙ בְּיַד־עֲבָדָ֔יו עֵ֥דֶר עֵ֖דֶר לְבַדּ֑וֹ וַיֹּ֤אמֶר אֶל־עֲבָדָיו֙ עִבְר֣וּ לְפָנַ֔י וְרֶ֣וַח תָּשִׂ֔ימוּ בֵּ֥ין עֵ֖דֶר וּבֵ֥ין עֵֽדֶר׃
καὶ ἔδωκεν διὰ χειρὸς τοῖς παισὶν αὐτοῦ ποίμνιον κατὰ μόνας εἶπεν δὲ τοῖς παισὶν αὐτοῦ προπορεύεσθε ἔμπροσθέν μου καὶ διάστημα ποιεῖτε ἀνὰ μέσον ποίμνης καὶ ποίμνης
Et praecepit priori, dicens : Si obvium habueris fratrem meum Esau, et interrogaverit te : Cujus es ? aut, Quo vadis ? aut, Cujus sunt ista quae sequeris ?
ወወሀቦሙ ፡ ለደቁ ፡ መራዕየ ፡ እንተ ፡ ባሕቲቶሙ ፡ ወይቤሎሙ ፡ ሑሩ ፡ ቅድመ ፡ ወአስተራሕቁ ፡ መራዕየ ፡ እመራዕይ ።
He commanded the foremost, saying, “When Esau, my brother, meets you, and asks you, saying, ‘Whose are you? Where are you going? Whose are these before you?’
32:18
וַיְצַ֥ו אֶת־הָרִאשׁ֖וֹן לֵאמֹ֑ר כִּ֣י יִֽפְגׇשְׁךָ֞ עֵשָׂ֣ו אָחִ֗י וּשְׁאֵֽלְךָ֙ לֵאמֹ֔ר לְמִי־אַ֙תָּה֙ וְאָ֣נָה תֵלֵ֔ךְ וּלְמִ֖י אֵ֥לֶּה לְפָנֶֽיךָ׃
καὶ ἐνετείλατο τῷ πρώτῳ λέγων ἐάν σοι συναντήσῃ Ησαυ ὁ ἀδελφός μου καὶ ἐρωτᾷ σε λέγων τίνος εἶ καὶ ποῦ πορεύῃ καὶ τίνος ταῦτα τὰ προπορευόμενά σου
respondebis : Servi tui Jacob, munera misit domino meo Esau, ipse quoque post nos venit.
ወይቤሎ ፡ ለዘ ፡ ቀዳሚ ፡ ለእመ ፡ ረከብኮ ፡ ለዔሰው ፡ እኁየ ፡ ወተስእለከ ፡ ወይቤለከ ፡ ዘመኑ ፡ ዝንቱ ፡ ወአይቴ ፡ ተሐውር ፡ ወዘመኑዝ ፡ ዘየሐውር ፡ ቅድሜከ ፤
Then you shall say, ‘They are your servant, Jacob’s. It is a present sent to my lord, Esau. Behold, he also is behind us.’”
32:19
וְאָֽמַרְתָּ֙ לְעַבְדְּךָ֣ לְיַעֲקֹ֔ב מִנְחָ֥ה הִוא֙ שְׁלוּחָ֔ה לַֽאדֹנִ֖י לְעֵשָׂ֑ו וְהִנֵּ֥ה גַם־ה֖וּא אַחֲרֵֽינוּ׃
ἐρεῖς τοῦ παιδός σου Ιακωβ δῶρα ἀπέσταλκεν τῷ κυρίῳ μου Ησαυ καὶ ἰδοὺ αὐτὸς ὀπίσω ἡμῶν
Similiter dedit mandata secundo, et tertio, et cunctis qui sequebantur greges, dicens : Iisdem verbis loquimini ad Esau cum inveneritis eum.
በሎ ፡ ዘገብርከ ፡ ያዕቆብ ፡ አምኃ ፡ ዘፈነወ ፡ ለእግዚኡ ፡ ዔሳው ፡ ወናሁ ፡ ውእቱኒ ፡ ድኅሬነ ፡ ይተልወነ ።
He commanded also the second, and the third, and all that followed the herds, saying, “This is how you shall speak to Esau, when you find him.
32:20
וַיְצַ֞ו גַּ֣ם אֶת־הַשֵּׁנִ֗י גַּ֚ם אֶת־הַשְּׁלִישִׁ֔י גַּ֚ם אֶת־כׇּל־הַהֹ֣לְכִ֔ים אַחֲרֵ֥י הָעֲדָרִ֖ים לֵאמֹ֑ר כַּדָּבָ֤ר הַזֶּה֙ תְּדַבְּר֣וּן אֶל־עֵשָׂ֔ו בְּמֹצַאֲכֶ֖ם אֹתֽוֹ׃
καὶ ἐνετείλατο τῷ πρώτῳ καὶ τῷ δευτέρῳ καὶ τῷ τρίτῳ καὶ πᾶσι τοῖς προπορευομένοις ὀπίσω τῶν ποιμνίων τούτων λέγων κατὰ τὸ ῥῆμα τοῦτο λαλήσατε Ησαυ ἐν τῷ εὑρεῖν ὑμᾶς αὐτὸν
Et addetis : Ipse quoque servus tuus Jacob iter nostrum insequitur. Dixit enim : Placabo illum muneribus quae praecedunt, et postea videbo illum : forsitan propitiabitur mihi.
ወአዘዞ ፡ ለቀዳማዊኒ ፡ ወለካልኡኒ ፡ ወለሣልሱኒ ፡ ወኵሎሙ ፡ እለ ፡ የሐውሩ ፡ ቅድሜሁ ፡ ወይነድኡ ፡ መራዕየ ፡ ወይቤሎሙ ፡ ከመዝ ፡ በልዎ ፡ ለእኁየ ፡ ለዔሳው ፡ ለእመ ፡ ረከብክሙ ።
You shall say, ‘Not only that, but behold, your servant, Jacob, is behind us.’” For, he said, “I will appease him with the present that goes before me, and afterward I will see his face. Perhaps he will accept me.”
32:21
וַאֲמַרְתֶּ֕ם גַּ֗ם הִנֵּ֛ה עַבְדְּךָ֥ יַעֲקֹ֖ב אַחֲרֵ֑ינוּ כִּֽי־אָמַ֞ר אֲכַפְּרָ֣ה פָנָ֗יו בַּמִּנְחָה֙ הַהֹלֶ֣כֶת לְפָנָ֔י וְאַחֲרֵי־כֵן֙ אֶרְאֶ֣ה פָנָ֔יו אוּלַ֖י יִשָּׂ֥א פָנָֽי׃
καὶ ἐρεῖτε ἰδοὺ ὁ παῖς σου Ιακωβ παραγίνεται ὀπίσω ἡμῶν εἶπεν γάρ ἐξιλάσομαι τὸ πρόσωπον αὐτοῦ ἐν τοῖς δώροις τοῖς προπορευομένοις αὐτοῦ καὶ μετὰ τοῦτο ὄψομαι τὸ πρόσωπον αὐτοῦ ἴσως γὰρ προσδέξεται τὸ πρόσωπόν μου
Praecesserunt itaque munera ante eum, ipse vero mansit nocte illa in castris.
በልዎ ፡ ናሁ ፡ ገብርከ ፡ ያዕቆብ ፡ ይበጽሕ ፡ ድኅሬነ ፤ እስመ ፡ ይቤ ፡ እድኅን ፡ እምነ ፡ ገጹ ፡ በዝንቱ ፡ አምኃ ፡ ዘይወስዱ ፡ ቅድሜሁ ፡ ወእምዝ ፡ እሬኢ ፡ ገጾ ፡ ከመ ፡ ይትቄበሎ ፡ ለገጽየ ፡ በዳኅን ።
So the present passed over before him, and he himself stayed that night in the camp.
32:22
וַתַּעֲבֹ֥ר הַמִּנְחָ֖ה עַל־פָּנָ֑יו וְה֛וּא לָ֥ן בַּלַּֽיְלָה־הַה֖וּא בַּֽמַּחֲנֶֽה׃
καὶ παρεπορεύοντο τὰ δῶρα κατὰ πρόσωπον αὐτοῦ αὐτὸς δὲ ἐκοιμήθη τὴν νύκτα ἐκείνην ἐν τῇ παρεμβολῇ
Cumque mature surrexisset, tulit duas uxores suas, et totidem famulas cum undecim filiis, et transivit vadum Jaboc.
ወእምዝ ፡ ፈነወ ፡ አምኃ ፡ ወውእቱሰ ፡ ቤተ ፡ ውስተ ፡ ትዕይንት ፡ በይእቲ ፡ ሌሊት ።
He rose up that night, and took his two wives, and his two servants, and his eleven sons, and crossed over the ford of the Jabbok.
32:23
וַיָּ֣קׇם׀ בַּלַּ֣יְלָה ה֗וּא וַיִּקַּ֞ח אֶת־שְׁתֵּ֤י נָשָׁיו֙ וְאֶת־שְׁתֵּ֣י שִׁפְחֹתָ֔יו וְאֶת־אַחַ֥ד עָשָׂ֖ר יְלָדָ֑יו וַֽיַּעֲבֹ֔ר אֵ֖ת מַעֲבַ֥ר יַבֹּֽק׃
ἀναστὰς δὲ τὴν νύκτα ἐκείνην ἔλαβεν τὰς δύο γυναῖκας καὶ τὰς δύο παιδίσκας καὶ τὰ ἕνδεκα παιδία αὐτοῦ καὶ διέβη τὴν διάβασιν τοῦ Ιαβοκ
Traductisque omnibus quae ad se pertinebant,
ወተንሥአ ፡ ወነሥኦን ፡ ለክልኤሆን ፡ አንስቲያሁ ፡ ወለክልኤ ፡ ዕቁባቲሁ ፡ ወዐሠርተ ፡ ወአሐደ ፡ ደቂቆ ፡ ወዐዶወ ፡ ማዕዶተ ፡ [ያቦቅ ።]24 ወነሥኦሙ ፡ ወዐደወ ፡ ውኂዘ ፡ ወአዕደወ ፡ ኵሎ ፡ ንዋይሁ ።
He took them, and sent them over the stream, and sent over that which he had.
32:24
וַיִּ֨קָּחֵ֔ם וַיַּֽעֲבִרֵ֖ם אֶת־הַנָּ֑חַל וַֽיַּעֲבֵ֖ר אֶת־אֲשֶׁר־לֽוֹ׃
καὶ ἔλαβεν αὐτοὺς καὶ διέβη τὸν χειμάρρουν καὶ διεβίβασεν πάντα τὰ αὐτοῦ
mansit solus : et ecce vir luctabatur cum eo usque mane.
ወተርፈ ፡ ያዕቆብ ፡ ባሕቲቱ ፡ ወተጋደሎ ፡ ብእሲ ፡ እስከ ፡ ጸብሐ ።
Jacob was left alone, and wrestled with a man there until the breaking of the day.
32:25
וַיִּוָּתֵ֥ר יַעֲקֹ֖ב לְבַדּ֑וֹ וַיֵּאָבֵ֥ק אִישׁ֙ עִמּ֔וֹ עַ֖ד עֲל֥וֹת הַשָּֽׁחַר׃
ὑπελείφθη δὲ Ιακωβ μόνος καὶ ἐπάλαιεν ἄνθρωπος μετ’ αὐτοῦ ἕως πρωί
Qui cum videret quod eum superare non posset, tetigit nervum femoris ejus, et statim emarcuit.
ወሶበ ፡ ርእየ ፡ ከመ ፡ ኢይክሎ ፡ አኀዞ ፡ ሥርወ ፡ ሕሩም ፡ እንዘ ፡ ይትጋደሎ ፡ ምስሌሁ ።
When he saw that he didn’t prevail against him, the man touched the hollow of his thigh, and the hollow of Jacob’s thigh was strained as he wrestled.
32:26
וַיַּ֗רְא כִּ֣י לֹ֤א יָכֹל֙ ל֔וֹ וַיִּגַּ֖ע בְּכַף־יְרֵכ֑וֹ וַתֵּ֙קַע֙ כַּף־יֶ֣רֶךְ יַעֲקֹ֔ב בְּהֵאָֽבְק֖וֹ עִמּֽוֹ׃
εἶδεν δὲ ὅτι οὐ δύναται πρὸς αὐτόν καὶ ἥψατο τοῦ πλάτους τοῦ μηροῦ αὐτοῦ καὶ ἐνάρκησεν τὸ πλάτος τοῦ μηροῦ Ιακωβ ἐν τῷ παλαίειν αὐτὸν μετ’ αὐτοῦ
Dixitque ad eum : Dimitte me : jam enim ascendit aurora. Respondit : Non dimittam te, nisi benedixeris mihi.
ወይቤሎ ፡ ፈንወኒ ፡ እስመ ፡ ጎሐ ፡ ጽባሕ ፡ ወይቤሎ ፡ ኢይፌንወከ ፡ ለእመ ፡ ኢባረከኒ ።
The man said, “Let me go, for the day breaks.” Jacob said, “I won’t let you go unless you bless me.”
32:27
וַיֹּ֣אמֶר שַׁלְּחֵ֔נִי כִּ֥י עָלָ֖ה הַשָּׁ֑חַר וַיֹּ֙אמֶר֙ לֹ֣א אֲשַֽׁלֵּחֲךָ֔ כִּ֖י אִם־בֵּרַכְתָּֽנִי׃
καὶ εἶπεν αὐτῷ ἀπόστειλόν με ἀνέβη γὰρ ὁ ὄρθρος ὁ δὲ εἶπεν οὐ μή σε ἀποστείλω ἐὰν μή με εὐλογήσῃς
Ait ergo : Quod nomen est tibi ? Respondit : Jacob.
ወይቤሎ ፡ መኑ ፡ ስምከ ፡ ወይቤሎ ፡ ያዕቆብ ።
He said to him, “What is your name?” He said, “Jacob”.
32:28
וַיֹּ֥אמֶר אֵלָ֖יו מַה־שְּׁמֶ֑ךָ וַיֹּ֖אמֶר יַעֲקֹֽב׃
εἶπεν δὲ αὐτῷ τί τὸ ὄνομά σού ἐστιν ὁ δὲ εἶπεν Ιακωβ
At ille : Nequaquam, inquit, Jacob appellabitur nomen tuum, sed Israël : quoniam si contra Deum fortis fuisti, quanto magis contra homines praevalebis ?
ወይቤሎ ፡ ኢይኩን ፡ እንከ ፡ ስምከ ፡ ያዕቆብ ፡ ዳእሙ ፡ ይኩን ፡ ስምከ ፡ እስራኤል ፡ እስመ ፡ ክህልከ ፡ ምስለ ፡ እግዚአብሔር ፡ ወምስለ ፡ እጓለ ፡ እመሕያው ።
He said, “Your name will no longer be called Jacob, but Israel; for you have fought with God and with men, and have prevailed.”
32:29
וַיֹּ֗אמֶר לֹ֤א יַעֲקֹב֙ יֵאָמֵ֥ר עוֹד֙ שִׁמְךָ֔ כִּ֖י אִם־יִשְׂרָאֵ֑ל כִּֽי־שָׂרִ֧יתָ עִם־אֱלֹהִ֛ים וְעִם־אֲנָשִׁ֖ים וַתּוּכָֽל׃
εἶπεν δὲ αὐτῷ οὐ κληθήσεται ἔτι τὸ ὄνομά σου Ιακωβ ἀλλὰ Ισραηλ ἔσται τὸ ὄνομά σου ὅτι ἐνίσχυσας μετὰ θεοῦ καὶ μετὰ ἀνθρώπων δυνατός
Interrogavit eum Jacob : Dic mihi, quo appellaris nomine ? Respondit : Cur quaeris nomen meum ? Et benedixit ei in eodem loco.
ወይቤሎ ፡ አይድዐኒ ፡ ስመከ ፡ ወይቤሎ ፡ ለምንት ፡ ለከ ፡ ትሴአል ፡ ስምየ ፡ ወባረኮ ፡ በህየ ።
Jacob asked him, “Please tell me your name.” He said, “Why is it that you ask what my name is?” So he blessed him there.
32:30
וַיִּשְׁאַ֣ל יַעֲקֹ֗ב וַיֹּ֙אמֶר֙ הַגִּֽידָה־נָּ֣א שְׁמֶ֔ךָ וַיֹּ֕אמֶר לָ֥מָּה זֶּ֖ה תִּשְׁאַ֣ל לִשְׁמִ֑י וַיְבָ֥רֶךְ אֹת֖וֹ שָֽׁם׃
ἠρώτησεν δὲ Ιακωβ καὶ εἶπεν ἀνάγγειλόν μοι τὸ ὄνομά σου καὶ εἶπεν ἵνα τί τοῦτο ἐρωτᾷς τὸ ὄνομά μου καὶ ηὐλόγησεν αὐτὸν ἐκεῖ
Vocavitque Jacob nomen loci illius Phanuel, dicens : Vidi Deum facie ad faciem, et salva facta est anima mea.
ወሰመዮ ፡ ስሞ ፡ ያዕቆብ ፡ ለውእቱ ፡ ብሔር ፡ ራእየ ፡ እግዚአብሔር ፡ እስመ ፡ ርኢክዎ ፡ ለእግዚአብሔር ፡ ገጸ ፡ በገጽ ፡ ወድኅነት ፡ ነፍስየ ፡ (ወገጽየ ።)32 ወሠረቀ ፡ ፀሓይ ፡ ሶበ ፡ ኀደጎ ፡ ራእየ ፡ እግዚአብሔር ፡ ወሎቱሰ ፡ ያስዖዝዞ ፡ ክመ ፡ እግሩ ። ወበእንተዝ ፡ ኢይበልዑ ፡ ደቂቀ ፡ እስራኤል ፡ ውእተ ፡ ሥርወ ፡ ዘአስዖዘዞ ፡ ዘሀሎ ፡ ውስተ ፡ ዓወ ፡ እግሩ ፡ እስከ ፡ ዛቲ ፡ ዕለት ፡ እስመ ፡ አኀዞ ፡ ሥርወ ፡ ሕሩም ፡ ለያዕቆብ ፡ (ውእቱ ፡ ሥርው ፡ ሕሩም ።)
Jacob called the name of the place Peniel; for he said, “I have seen God face to face, and my life is preserved.”
32:31
וַיִּקְרָ֧א יַעֲקֹ֛ב שֵׁ֥ם הַמָּק֖וֹם פְּנִיאֵ֑ל כִּֽי־רָאִ֤יתִי אֱלֹהִים֙ פָּנִ֣ים אֶל־פָּנִ֔ים וַתִּנָּצֵ֖ל נַפְשִֽׁי׃
καὶ ἐκάλεσεν Ιακωβ τὸ ὄνομα τοῦ τόπου ἐκείνου Εἶδος θεοῦ εἶδον γὰρ θεὸν πρόσωπον πρὸς πρόσωπον καὶ ἐσώθη μου ἡ ψυχή
Ortusque est ei statim sol, postquam transgressus est Phanuel : ipse vero claudicabat pede.

The sun rose on him as he passed over Peniel, and he limped because of his thigh.
32:32
וַיִּֽזְרַֽח־ל֣וֹ הַשֶּׁ֔מֶשׁ כַּאֲשֶׁ֥ר עָבַ֖ר אֶת־פְּנוּאֵ֑ל וְה֥וּא צֹלֵ֖עַ עַל־יְרֵכֽוֹ׃
ἀνέτειλεν δὲ αὐτῷ ὁ ἥλιος ἡνίκα παρῆλθεν τὸ Εἶδος τοῦ θεοῦ αὐτὸς δὲ ἐπέσκαζεν τῷ μηρῷ αὐτοῦ
Quam ob causam non comedunt nervum filii Israël, qui emarcuit in femore Jacob, usque in praesentem diem : eo quod tetigerit nervum femoris ejus, et obstupuerit.

Therefore the children of Israel don’t eat the sinew of the hip, which is on the hollow of the thigh, to this day, because he touched the hollow of Jacob’s thigh in the sinew of the hip.
32:33
עַל־כֵּ֡ן לֹֽא־יֹאכְל֨וּ בְנֵֽי־יִשְׂרָאֵ֜ל אֶת־גִּ֣יד הַנָּשֶׁ֗ה אֲשֶׁר֙ עַל־כַּ֣ף הַיָּרֵ֔ךְ עַ֖ד הַיּ֣וֹם הַזֶּ֑ה כִּ֤י נָגַע֙ בְּכַף־יֶ֣רֶךְ יַעֲקֹ֔ב בְּגִ֖יד הַנָּשֶֽׁה׃
ἕνεκεν τούτου οὐ μὴ φάγωσιν οἱ υἱοὶ Ισραηλ τὸ νεῦρον ὃ ἐνάρκησεν ὅ ἐστιν ἐπὶ τοῦ πλάτους τοῦ μηροῦ ἕως τῆς ἡμέρας ταύτης ὅτι ἥψατο τοῦ πλάτους τοῦ μηροῦ Ιακωβ τοῦ νεύρου καὶ ἐνάρκησεν

Therefore the children of Israel don’t eat the sinew of the hip, which is on the hollow of the thigh, to this day, because he touched the hollow of Jacob’s thigh in the sinew of the hip.
