31:1 ⧉ ⤴︎ וַיִּשְׁמַ֗ע אֶת ־דִּבְרֵ֤י בְנֵֽי ־לָבָן֙ לֵאמֹ֔ר לָקַ֣ח יַעֲקֹ֔ב אֵ֖ת כׇּל ־אֲשֶׁ֣ר לְאָבִ֑ינוּ וּמֵאֲשֶׁ֣ר לְאָבִ֔ינוּ עָשָׂ֕ה אֵ֥ת כׇּל ־הַכָּבֹ֖ד הַזֶּֽה ׃
ἤκουσεν δὲ Ιακωβ τὰ ῥήματα τῶν υἱῶν Λαβαν λεγόντων εἴληφεν Ιακωβ πάντα τὰ τοῦ πατρὸς ἡμῶν καὶ ἐκ τῶν τοῦ πατρὸς ἡμῶν πεποίηκεν πᾶσαν τὴν δόξαν ταύτην
Postquam autem audivit verba filiorum Laban dicentium : Tulit Jacob omnia quae fuerunt patris nostri , et de illius facultate ditatus , factus est inclytus :
ወሴምዐ ፡ ያዕቆብ ፡ ነገሮም ፡ ለደቂቀ ፡ ላባ ፡ ዘይቤሉ ፡ ነሥአ ፡ ያዕቆብ ፡ ኵሎ ፡ ንዋየ ፡ አቡነ ፡ ወእምንዋየ ፡ አቡነ ፡ አጥረዮ ፡ ለዝንቱ ፡ ኵሉ ፡ ክብር ።
Jacob heard Laban’s sons’ words, saying, “Jacob has taken away all that was our father’s. He has obtained all this wealth from that which was our father’s.”
31:2 ⧉ ⤴︎ וַיַּ֥רְא יַעֲקֹ֖ב אֶת ־פְּנֵ֣י לָבָ֑ן וְהִנֵּ֥ה אֵינֶ֛נּוּ עִמּ֖וֹ כִּתְמ֥וֹל שִׁלְשֽׁוֹם ׃
καὶ εἶδεν Ιακωβ τὸ πρόσωπον τοῦ Λαβαν καὶ ἰδοὺ οὐκ ἦν πρὸς αὐτὸν ὡς ἐχθὲς καὶ τρίτην ἡμέραν
animadvertit quoque faciem Laban , quod non esset erga se sicut heri et nudiustertius ,
ወርእዮ ፡ ያዕቆብ ፡ ለላባ ፡ ከመ ፡ አኮ ፡ ከመ ፡ ትካት ፡ ገጹ ፡ ምስሌሁ ።
Jacob saw the expression on Laban’s face, and, behold, it was not toward him as before.
31:3 ⧉ ⤴︎ וַיֹּ֤אמֶר יְהֹוָה֙ אֶֽל ־יַעֲקֹ֔ב שׁ֛וּב אֶל ־אֶ֥רֶץ אֲבוֹתֶ֖יךָ וּלְמוֹלַדְתֶּ֑ךָ וְאֶֽהְיֶ֖ה עִמָּֽךְ ׃
εἶπεν δὲ κύριος πρὸς Ιακωβ ἀποστρέφου εἰς τὴν γῆν τοῦ πατρός σου καὶ εἰς τὴν γενεάν σου καὶ ἔσομαι μετὰ σοῦ
maxime dicente sibi Domino : Revertere in terram patrum tuorum , et ad generationem tuam , eroque tecum .
ወይሌሎ ፡ አምላክ ፡ እግዚአብሔር ፡ ለያዕቆብ ፡ ግባዕ ፡ ብሔረ ፡ አቡከ ፡ ወኀበ ፡ አዝማዲከ ፡ ወእሄሉ ፡ ምስሌከ ።
Yahweh said to Jacob, “Return to the land of your fathers, and to your relatives, and I will be with you.”
31:4 ⧉ ⤴︎ וַיִּשְׁלַ֣ח יַעֲקֹ֔ב וַיִּקְרָ֖א לְרָחֵ֣ל וּלְלֵאָ֑ה הַשָּׂדֶ֖ה אֶל ־צֹאנֽוֹ ׃
ἀποστείλας δὲ Ιακωβ ἐκάλεσεν Ραχηλ καὶ Λειαν εἰς τὸ πεδίον οὗ τὰ ποίμνια
Misit , et vocavit Rachel et Liam in agrum , ubi pascebat greges ,
ወጸውዖን ፡ ያዕቆብ ፡ ለልያ ፡ ወለራሔል ፡ ውስተ ፡ ሐቅል ፡ ኀበ ፡ ምርዓይ ።
Jacob sent and called Rachel and Leah to the field to his flock,
31:5 ⧉ ⤴︎ וַיֹּ֣אמֶר לָהֶ֗ן רֹאֶ֤ה אָנֹכִי֙ אֶת ־פְּנֵ֣י אֲבִיכֶ֔ן כִּֽי ־אֵינֶ֥נּוּ אֵלַ֖י כִּתְמֹ֣ל שִׁלְשֹׁ֑ם וֵֽאלֹהֵ֣י אָבִ֔י הָיָ֖ה עִמָּדִֽי ׃
καὶ εἶπεν αὐταῖς ὁρῶ ἐγὼ τὸ πρόσωπον τοῦ πατρὸς ὑμῶν ὅτι οὐκ ἔστιν πρὸς ἐμοῦ ὡς ἐχθὲς καὶ τρίτην ἡμέραν ὁ δὲ θεὸς τοῦ πατρός μου ἦν μετ’ ἐμοῦ
dixitque eis : Video faciem patris vestri quod non sit erga me sicut heri et nudiustertius : Deus autem patris mei fuit mecum .
ወይቤሎን ፡ ናሁ ፡ አነ ፡ እሬኢ ፡ ገጾ ፡ ለአቡክን ፡ ከመ ፡ ኢኮነ ፡ ምስሌየ ፡ ከመ ፡ ትካት ፡ ወአምላኩ ፡ ለአቡየ ፡ ሀሎ ፡ ምስሌየ ።
and said to them, “I see the expression on your father’s face, that it is not toward me as before; but the God of my father has been with me.
31:6 ⧉ ⤴︎ וְאַתֵּ֖נָה יְדַעְתֶּ֑ן כִּ֚י בְּכׇל ־כֹּחִ֔י עָבַ֖דְתִּי אֶת ־אֲבִיכֶֽן ׃
καὶ αὐταὶ δὲ οἴδατε ὅτι ἐν πάσῃ τῇ ἰσχύι μου δεδούλευκα τῷ πατρὶ ὑμῶν
Et ipsae nostis quod totis viribus meis servierim patri vestro .
ታአምራ ፡ ከመ ፡ በኵሉ ፡ ኀይልየ ፡ ተቀነይኩ ፡ ለአቡክን ።
You know that I have served your father with all of my strength.
31:7 ⧉ ⤴︎ וַאֲבִיכֶן֙ הֵ֣תֶל בִּ֔י וְהֶחֱלִ֥ף אֶת ־מַשְׂכֻּרְתִּ֖י עֲשֶׂ֣רֶת מֹנִ֑ים וְלֹֽא ־נְתָנ֣וֹ אֱלֹהִ֔ים לְהָרַ֖ע עִמָּדִֽי ׃
ὁ δὲ πατὴρ ὑμῶν παρεκρούσατό με καὶ ἤλλαξεν τὸν μισθόν μου τῶν δέκα ἀμνῶν καὶ οὐκ ἔδωκεν αὐτῷ ὁ θεὸς κακοποιῆσαί με
Sed et pater vester circumvenit me et mutavit mercedem meam decem vicibus : et tamen non dimisit eum Deus ut noceret mihi .
ወአቡክንሰ ፡ አሕዘነኒ ፡ ወወለጠ ፡ ዐስብየ ፡ ዘዐሥሩ ፡ አባግዕ ፡ ወኢያብሖ ፡ እግዚአብሔር ፡ ያሕሥም ፡ ላዕሌየ ።
Your father has deceived me, and changed my wages ten times, but God didn’t allow him to hurt me.
31:8 ⧉ ⤴︎ אִם ־כֹּ֣ה יֹאמַ֗ר נְקֻדִּים֙ יִהְיֶ֣ה שְׂכָרֶ֔ךָ וְיָלְד֥וּ כׇל ־הַצֹּ֖אן נְקֻדִּ֑ים וְאִם ־כֹּ֣ה יֹאמַ֗ר עֲקֻדִּים֙ יִהְיֶ֣ה שְׂכָרֶ֔ךָ וְיָלְד֥וּ כׇל ־הַצֹּ֖אן עֲקֻדִּֽים ׃
ἐὰν οὕτως εἴπῃ τὰ ποικίλα ἔσται σου μισθός καὶ τέξεται πάντα τὰ πρόβατα ποικίλα ἐὰν δὲ εἴπῃ τὰ λευκὰ ἔσται σου μισθός καὶ τέξεται πάντα τὰ πρόβατα λευκά
Si quando dixit : Variae erunt mercedes tuae : pariebant omnes oves varios foetus ; quando vero e contrario , ait : Alba quaeque accipies pro mercede : omnes greges alba pepererunt .
ለእመ ፡ ይቤለኒ ፡ ዘሕብር ፡ ይኩን ፡ ዐስብከ ፡ ወይወልዳ ፡ ኵሎን ፡ አባግዕ ፡ ዘሕብር ፡ ወለእመ ፡ ይቤለኒ ፡ ጻዕዳ ፡ ይኩን ፡ ዐስብከ ፡ ይወልዳ ፡ ኵሎን ፡ ጸዐዳ ።
If he said, ‘The speckled will be your wages,’ then all the flock bore speckled. If he said, ‘The streaked will be your wages,’ then all the flock bore streaked.
31:9 ⧉ ⤴︎ וַיַּצֵּ֧ל אֱלֹהִ֛ים אֶת ־מִקְנֵ֥ה אֲבִיכֶ֖ם וַיִּתֶּן ־לִֽי ׃
καὶ ἀφείλατο ὁ θεὸς πάντα τὰ κτήνη τοῦ πατρὸς ὑμῶν καὶ ἔδωκέν μοι αὐτά
Tulitque Deus substantiam patris vestri , et dedit mihi .
ወነሥአ ፡ እግዚአብሔር ፡ ኵሎ ፡ አባግዒሁ ፡ ለአቡክን ፡ ወወሀበኒዮን ፡ ሊተ ።
Thus God has taken away your father’s livestock, and given them to me.
31:10 ⧉ ⤴︎ וַיְהִ֗י בְּעֵת֙ יַחֵ֣ם הַצֹּ֔אן וָאֶשָּׂ֥א עֵינַ֛י וָאֵ֖רֶא בַּחֲל֑וֹם וְהִנֵּ֤ה הָֽעַתֻּדִים֙ הָעֹלִ֣ים עַל ־הַצֹּ֔אן עֲקֻדִּ֥ים נְקֻדִּ֖ים וּבְרֻדִּֽים ׃
καὶ ἐγένετο ἡνίκα ἐνεκίσσων τὰ πρόβατα καὶ εἶδον τοῖς ὀφθαλμοῖς αὐτὰ ἐν τῷ ὕπνῳ καὶ ἰδοὺ οἱ τράγοι καὶ οἱ κριοὶ ἀναβαίνοντες ἦσαν ἐπὶ τὰ πρόβατα καὶ τὰς αἶγας διάλευκοι καὶ ποικίλοι καὶ σποδοειδεῖς ῥαντοί
Postquam enim conceptus ovium tempus advenerat , levavi oculos meos , et vidi in somnis ascendentes mares super feminas , varios et maculosos , et diversorum colorum .
ወእምዝ ፡ አመ ፡ ይፀንሳ ፡ እሬኢ ፡ በአዕይንትየ ፡ በሕልም ፡ ወናሁ ፡ አብሓኵ ፡ ዘአባግዕ ፡ ወዘአጣሊ ፡ የዐርጉ ፡ ዲበ ፡ አጣሊ ፡ ወዲበ ፡ አባግዕ ፡ ጻዕዳ ፡ ወ [ዘ ]ሕብርኒ ፡ ወዘሕብረ ፡ ሐመድ ፡ ወኰሠኰሥ ።
During mating season, I lifted up my eyes, and saw in a dream, and behold, the male goats which leaped on the flock were streaked, speckled, and grizzled.
31:11 ⧉ ⤴︎ וַיֹּ֨אמֶר אֵלַ֜י מַלְאַ֧ךְ הָאֱלֹהִ֛ים בַּחֲל֖וֹם יַֽעֲקֹ֑ב וָאֹמַ֖ר הִנֵּֽנִי ׃
καὶ εἶπέν μοι ὁ ἄγγελος τοῦ θεοῦ καθ’ ὕπνον Ιακωβ ἐγὼ δὲ εἶπα τί ἐστιν
Dixitque angelus Dei ad me in somnis : Jacob ? Et ego respondi : Adsum .
ወይቤለኒ ፡ መልአ [ከ ] ፡ እግዚአብሔር ፡ በሕልም ፡ ያዕቆብ ፡ ያዕቆብ ፡ ወእቤ ፡ ነየ ፡ አነ ፡ ምንትኑ ፡ ውእቱ ።
The angel of God said to me in the dream, ‘Jacob,’ and I said, ‘Here I am.’
31:12 ⧉ ⤴︎ וַיֹּ֗אמֶר שָׂא ־נָ֨א עֵינֶ֤יךָ וּרְאֵה֙ כׇּל ־הָֽעַתֻּדִים֙ הָעֹלִ֣ים עַל ־הַצֹּ֔אן עֲקֻדִּ֥ים נְקֻדִּ֖ים וּבְרֻדִּ֑ים כִּ֣י רָאִ֔יתִי אֵ֛ת כׇּל ־אֲשֶׁ֥ר לָבָ֖ן עֹ֥שֶׂה לָּֽךְ ׃
καὶ εἶπεν ἀνάβλεψον τοῖς ὀφθαλμοῖς σου καὶ ἰδὲ τοὺς τράγους καὶ τοὺς κριοὺς ἀναβαίνοντας ἐπὶ τὰ πρόβατα καὶ τὰς αἶγας διαλεύκους καὶ ποικίλους καὶ σποδοειδεῖς ῥαντούς ἑώρακα γὰρ ὅσα σοι Λαβαν ποιεῖ
Qui ait : Leva oculos tuos , et vide universos masculos ascendentes super feminas , varios , maculosos , atque respersos . Vidi enim omnia quae fecit tibi Laban .
ወይቤለኒ ፡ ነጽር ፡ በአዕይንቲከ ፡ ወርኢ ፡ አብሓኵ ፡ ዘአጣሊ ፡ ወዘአባግዕ ፡ የዐርጉ ፡ ዲበ ፡ አጣሊ ፡ ወዲበ ፡ አባግዕ ፡ ጸዐዳ ፡ ወዘሕብርኒ ፡ ወዘሕብረ ፡ ሐመድ ፡ ወዘኰሠኰሥ ፡ እስመ ፡ ርኢኩ ፡ ኵሎ ፡ ዘይገብር ፡ ላዕሌከ ፡ ላባ ።
He said, ‘Now lift up your eyes, and behold, all the male goats which leap on the flock are streaked, speckled, and grizzled, for I have seen all that Laban does to you.
31:13 ⧉ ⤴︎ אָנֹכִ֤י הָאֵל֙ בֵּֽית ־אֵ֔ל אֲשֶׁ֨ר מָשַׁ֤חְתָּ שָּׁם֙ מַצֵּבָ֔ה אֲשֶׁ֨ר נָדַ֥רְתָּ לִּ֛י שָׁ֖ם נֶ֑דֶר עַתָּ֗ה ק֥וּם צֵא֙ מִן ־הָאָ֣רֶץ הַזֹּ֔את וְשׁ֖וּב אֶל ־אֶ֥רֶץ מוֹלַדְתֶּֽךָ ׃
ἐγώ εἰμι ὁ θεὸς ὁ ὀφθείς σοι ἐν τόπῳ θεοῦ οὗ ἤλειψάς μοι ἐκεῖ στήλην καὶ ηὔξω μοι ἐκεῖ εὐχήν νῦν οὖν ἀνάστηθι καὶ ἔξελθε ἐκ τῆς γῆς ταύτης καὶ ἄπελθε εἰς τὴν γῆν τῆς γενέσεώς σου καὶ ἔσομαι μετὰ σοῦ
Ego sum Deus Bethel , ubi unxisti lapidem , et votum vovisti mihi . Nunc ergo surge , et egredere de terra hac , revertens in terram nativitatis tuae .
አነ ፡ ውእቱ ፡ እግዚአብሔር ፡ አምላክከ ፡ ዘአስተርአይኩከ ፡ በብሔረ ፡ እግዚአብሔር ፡ በኀበ ፡ ቀባእከ ፡ ሊተ ፡ ሐውልተ ፡ ወበህየ ፡ በፃእከ ፡ ሊተ ፡ ብፅአተ ፡ ወይእዜኒ ፡ ተንሥእ ፡ ወሑር ፡ ውስተ ፡ ብሔር ፡ ዘተወለድከ ፡ ወእሄሉ ፡ ምስሌከ ።
I am the God of Bethel, where you anointed a pillar, where you vowed a vow to me. Now arise, get out from this land, and return to the land of your birth.’”
31:14 ⧉ ⤴︎ וַתַּ֤עַן רָחֵל֙ וְלֵאָ֔ה וַתֹּאמַ֖רְנָה ל֑וֹ הַע֥וֹד לָ֛נוּ חֵ֥לֶק וְנַחֲלָ֖ה בְּבֵ֥ית אָבִֽינוּ ׃
καὶ ἀποκριθεῖσα Ραχηλ καὶ Λεια εἶπαν αὐτῷ μὴ ἔστιν ἡμῖν ἔτι μερὶς ἢ κληρονομία ἐν τῷ οἴκῳ τοῦ πατρὸς ἡμῶν
Responderuntque Rachel et Lia : Numquid habemus residui quidquam in facultatibus et haereditate domus patris nostri ?
ወአውሥኣሁ ፡ ወይቤላሁ ፡ ቦኑ ፡ እንከ ፡ ዘብነ ፡ ርስተ ፡ ቤተ ፡ አቡነ ።
Rachel and Leah answered him, “Is there yet any portion or inheritance for us in our father’s house?
31:15 ⧉ ⤴︎ הֲל֧וֹא נׇכְרִיּ֛וֹת נֶחְשַׁ֥בְנוּ ל֖וֹ כִּ֣י מְכָרָ֑נוּ וַיֹּ֥אכַל גַּם ־אָכ֖וֹל אֶת ־כַּסְפֵּֽנוּ ׃
οὐχ ὡς αἱ ἀλλότριαι λελογίσμεθα αὐτῷ πέπρακεν γὰρ ἡμᾶς καὶ κατέφαγεν καταβρώσει τὸ ἀργύριον ἡμῶν
nonne quasi alienas reputavit nos , et vendidit , comeditque pretium nostrum ?
አኮኑ ፡ ከመ ፡ ነኪር ፡ ንሕነ ፡ በኀቤሁ ፡ ወሤጠነ ፡ ወበልዐ ፡ ሤጠነ ።
Aren’t we considered as foreigners by him? For he has sold us, and has also used up our money.
31:16 ⧉ ⤴︎ כִּ֣י כׇל ־הָעֹ֗שֶׁר אֲשֶׁ֨ר הִצִּ֤יל אֱלֹהִים֙ מֵֽאָבִ֔ינוּ לָ֥נוּ ה֖וּא וּלְבָנֵ֑ינוּ וְעַתָּ֗ה כֹּל֩ אֲשֶׁ֨ר אָמַ֧ר אֱלֹהִ֛ים אֵלֶ֖יךָ עֲשֵֽׂה ׃
πάντα τὸν πλοῦτον καὶ τὴν δόξαν ἣν ἀφείλατο ὁ θεὸς τοῦ πατρὸς ἡμῶν ἡμῖν ἔσται καὶ τοῖς τέκνοις ἡμῶν νῦν οὖν ὅσα εἴρηκέν σοι ὁ θεός ποίει
Sed Deus tulit opes patris nostri , et eas tradidit nobis , ac filiis nostris : unde omnia quae praecepit tibi Deus , fac .
ወኵሉ ፡ ክብር ፡ ዘነሥአ ፡ እግዚአብሔር ፡ እምቤተ ፡ አቡነ ፡ ለነ ፡ ውእቱ ፡ ወለውሉድነ ፡ ወይእዜኒ ፡ ኵሎ ፡ ዘይቤለከ ፡ እግዚአብሔር ፡ ግበር ።
For all the riches which God has taken away from our father are ours and our children’s. Now then, whatever God has said to you, do.”
31:17 ⧉ ⤴︎ וַיָּ֖קׇם יַעֲקֹ֑ב וַיִּשָּׂ֛א אֶת ־בָּנָ֥יו וְאֶת ־נָשָׁ֖יו עַל ־הַגְּמַלִּֽים ׃
ἀναστὰς δὲ Ιακωβ ἔλαβεν τὰς γυναῖκας αὐτοῦ καὶ τὰ παιδία αὐτοῦ ἐπὶ τὰς καμήλους
Surrexit itaque Jacob , et impositis liberis ac conjugibus suis super camelos , abiit .
ወተንሥአ ፡ ያዕቆብ ፡ ወነሥአ ፡ አንስቲያሁ ፡ ወደቂቆ ፡ ወጸዐኖሙ ፡ በአግማል ።
Then Jacob rose up, and set his sons and his wives on the camels,
31:18 ⧉ ⤴︎ וַיִּנְהַ֣ג אֶת ־כׇּל ־מִקְנֵ֗הוּ וְאֶת ־כׇּל ־רְכֻשׁוֹ֙ אֲשֶׁ֣ר רָכָ֔שׁ מִקְנֵה֙ קִנְיָנ֔וֹ אֲשֶׁ֥ר רָכַ֖שׁ בְּפַדַּ֣ן אֲרָ֑ם לָב֛וֹא אֶל ־יִצְחָ֥ק אָבִ֖יו אַ֥רְצָה כְּנָֽעַן ׃
καὶ ἀπήγαγεν πάντα τὰ ὑπάρχοντα αὐτοῦ καὶ πᾶσαν τὴν ἀποσκευὴν αὐτοῦ ἣν περιεποιήσατο ἐν τῇ Μεσοποταμίᾳ καὶ πάντα τὰ αὐτοῦ ἀπελθεῖν πρὸς Ισαακ τὸν πατέρα αὐτοῦ εἰς γῆν Χανααν
Tulitque omnem substantiam suam , et greges , et quidquid in Mesopotamia acquisierat , pergens ad Isaac patrem suum in terram Chanaan .
ወነሥአ ፡ ኵሎ ፡ ንዋዮ ፡ ወቍስቋሳቲሁኒ ፡ ዘአጥረየ ፡ በማእከለ ፡ አፍላግ ፡ ወኵሎ ፡ ዘዚአሁ ፡ ወሖረ ፡ ኀበ ፡ አቡሁ ፡ ይስሐቅ ፡ ውስተ ፡ ምድረ ፡ ከናአን ።
and he took away all his livestock, and all his possessions which he had gathered, including the livestock which he had gained in Paddan Aram, to go to Isaac his father, to the land of Canaan.
31:19 ⧉ ⤴︎ וְלָבָ֣ן הָלַ֔ךְ לִגְזֹ֖ז אֶת ־צֹאנ֑וֹ וַתִּגְנֹ֣ב רָחֵ֔ל אֶת ־הַתְּרָפִ֖ים אֲשֶׁ֥ר לְאָבִֽיהָ ׃
Λαβαν δὲ ᾤχετο κεῖραι τὰ πρόβατα αὐτοῦ ἔκλεψεν δὲ Ραχηλ τὰ εἴδωλα τοῦ πατρὸς αὐτῆς
Eo tempore ierat Laban ad tondendas oves , et Rachel furata est idola patris sui .
ወላባሰ ፡ ሖረ ፡ ኀበ ፡ ይቀርፅ ፡ አባግዒሁ ፡ ወሰረቀት ፡ ራሔል ፡ አማልክተ ፡ አቡሃ ።
Now Laban had gone to shear his sheep; and Rachel stole the teraphim that were her father’s.
31:20 ⧉ ⤴︎ וַיִּגְנֹ֣ב יַעֲקֹ֔ב אֶת ־לֵ֥ב לָבָ֖ן הָאֲרַמִּ֑י עַל ־בְּלִי֙ הִגִּ֣יד ל֔וֹ כִּ֥י בֹרֵ֖חַ הֽוּא ׃
ἔκρυψεν δὲ Ιακωβ Λαβαν τὸν Σύρον τοῦ μὴ ἀναγγεῖλαι αὐτῷ ὅτι ἀποδιδράσκει
Noluitque Jacob confiteri socero suo quod fugeret .
ወያዕቆብሰ ፡ ኀብኦ ፡ ለላባ ፡ ሶርያዊ ፡ ወኢያይድዖ ፡ ከመ ፡ የሐውር ።
Jacob deceived Laban the Syrian, in that he didn’t tell him that he was running away.
31:21 ⧉ ⤴︎ וַיִּבְרַ֥ח הוּא֙ וְכׇל ־אֲשֶׁר ־ל֔וֹ וַיָּ֖קׇם וַיַּעֲבֹ֣ר אֶת ־הַנָּהָ֑ר וַיָּ֥שֶׂם אֶת ־פָּנָ֖יו הַ֥ר הַגִּלְעָֽד ׃
καὶ ἀπέδρα αὐτὸς καὶ πάντα τὰ αὐτοῦ καὶ διέβη τὸν ποταμὸν καὶ ὥρμησεν εἰς τὸ ὄρος Γαλααδ
Cumque abiisset tam ipse quam omnia quae juris sui erant , et amne transmisso pergeret contra montem Galaad ,
ወሖረ ፡ ውእቱ ፡ ወኵሉ ፡ ዘዚአሁ ፡ ወዐደወ ፡ ፈለገ ፡ ወኀደረ ፡ ገለዓድ ።
So he fled with all that he had. He rose up, passed over the River, and set his face toward the mountain of Gilead.
31:22 ⧉ ⤴︎ וַיֻּגַּ֥ד לְלָבָ֖ן בַּיּ֣וֹם הַשְּׁלִישִׁ֑י כִּ֥י בָרַ֖ח יַעֲקֹֽב ׃
ἀνηγγέλη δὲ Λαβαν τῷ Σύρῳ τῇ τρίτῃ ἡμέρᾳ ὅτι ἀπέδρα Ιακωβ
nuntiatum est Laban die tertio quod fugeret Jacob .
ወዜነውዎ ፡ ለላባ ፡ ሶርያዊ ፡ ከመ ፡ ሖረ ፡ ያዕቆብ ።
Laban was told on the third day that Jacob had fled.
31:23 ⧉ ⤴︎ וַיִּקַּ֤ח אֶת ־אֶחָיו֙ עִמּ֔וֹ וַיִּרְדֹּ֣ף אַחֲרָ֔יו דֶּ֖רֶךְ שִׁבְעַ֣ת יָמִ֑ים וַיַּדְבֵּ֥ק אֹת֖וֹ בְּהַ֥ר הַגִּלְעָֽד ׃
καὶ παραλαβὼν πάντας τοὺς ἀδελφοὺς αὐτοῦ μεθ’ ἑαυτοῦ ἐδίωξεν ὀπίσω αὐτοῦ ὁδὸν ἡμερῶν ἑπτὰ καὶ κατέλαβεν αὐτὸν ἐν τῷ ὄρει τῷ Γαλααδ
Qui , assumptis fratribus suis , persecutus est eum diebus septem : et comprehendit eum in monte Galaad .
ወነሥኦሙ ፡ ላባ ፡ ለኵሎሙ ፡ አኀዊሁ ፡ ወዴገኖሙ ፡ ምሕዋረ ፡ ሰሙን ፡ መዋዕል ፡ ወረከቦሙ ፡ በደብረ ፡ ገለዓድ ።
He took his relatives with him, and pursued him seven days’ journey. He overtook him in the mountain of Gilead.
31:24 ⧉ ⤴︎ וַיָּבֹ֧א אֱלֹהִ֛ים אֶל ־לָבָ֥ן הָאֲרַמִּ֖י בַּחֲלֹ֣ם הַלָּ֑יְלָה וַיֹּ֣אמֶר ל֗וֹ הִשָּׁ֧מֶר לְךָ֛ פֶּן ־תְּדַבֵּ֥ר עִֽם ־יַעֲקֹ֖ב מִטּ֥וֹב עַד ־רָֽע ׃
ἦλθεν δὲ ὁ θεὸς πρὸς Λαβαν τὸν Σύρον καθ’ ὕπνον τὴν νύκτα καὶ εἶπεν αὐτῷ φύλαξαι σεαυτόν μήποτε λαλήσῃς μετὰ Ιακωβ πονηρά
Viditque in somnis dicentem sibi Deum : Cave ne quidquam aspere loquaris contra Jacob .
ወመጽአ ፡ እግዚአብሔር ፡ ኀበ ፡ ላባ ፡ ሶርያዊ ፡ በሕልም ፡ ሌሊተ ፡ ወይቤሎ ፡ ዑቅ ፡ ኢትንብብ ፡ ሕሡመ ፡ ላዕለ ፡ ያዕቆብ ።
God came to Laban the Syrian in a dream of the night, and said to him, “Be careful that you don’t speak to Jacob either good or bad.”
31:25 ⧉ ⤴︎ וַיַּשֵּׂ֥ג לָבָ֖ן אֶֽת ־יַעֲקֹ֑ב וְיַעֲקֹ֗ב תָּקַ֤ע אֶֽת ־אׇהֳלוֹ֙ בָּהָ֔ר וְלָבָ֛ן תָּקַ֥ע אֶת ־אֶחָ֖יו בְּהַ֥ר הַגִּלְעָֽד ׃
καὶ κατέλαβεν Λαβαν τὸν Ιακωβ Ιακωβ δὲ ἔπηξεν τὴν σκηνὴν αὐτοῦ ἐν τῷ ὄρει Λαβαν δὲ ἔστησεν τοὺς ἀδελφοὺς αὐτοῦ ἐν τῷ ὄρει Γαλααδ
Jamque Jacob extenderat in monte tabernaculum : cumque ille consecutus fuisset eum cum fratribus suis , in eodem monte Galaad fixit tentorium .
ወረከቦ ፡ [ላባ ፡ ለያዕቆብ ፡] ወያዕቆብሰ ፡ ይተክል ፡ ደብተራ ፡ ውስተ ፡ ደብር ፡ ወአቀሞሙ ፡ ላባ ፡ ለአኀዊሁ ፡ ውስተ ፡ ደብረ ፡ ገለዓድ ።
Laban caught up with Jacob. Now Jacob had pitched his tent in the mountain, and Laban with his relatives encamped in the mountain of Gilead.
31:26 ⧉ ⤴︎ וַיֹּ֤אמֶר לָבָן֙ לְיַעֲקֹ֔ב מֶ֣ה עָשִׂ֔יתָ וַתִּגְנֹ֖ב אֶת ־לְבָבִ֑י וַתְּנַהֵג֙ אֶת ־בְּנֹתַ֔י כִּשְׁבֻי֖וֹת חָֽרֶב ׃
εἶπεν δὲ Λαβαν τῷ Ιακωβ τί ἐποίησας ἵνα τί κρυφῇ ἀπέδρας καὶ ἐκλοποφόρησάς με καὶ ἀπήγαγες τὰς θυγατέρας μου ὡς αἰχμαλώτιδας μαχαίρᾳ
Et dixit ad Jacob : Quare ita egisti , ut clam me abigeres filias meas quasi captivas gladio ?
ወይቤሎ ፡ ላባ ፡ ለያዕቆብ ፡ ምንተ ፡ ገበርኩ ፡ ጽምሚተ ፡ ዘትትኅጥአኒ ፡ ወትሰርቀኒ ፡ አዋልድየ ፡ ከመ ፡ ዘበኵናት ፡ ፄወው ።
Laban said to Jacob, “What have you done, that you have deceived me, and carried away my daughters like captives of the sword?
31:27 ⧉ ⤴︎ לָ֤מָּה נַחְבֵּ֙אתָ֙ לִבְרֹ֔חַ וַתִּגְנֹ֖ב אֹתִ֑י וְלֹא ־הִגַּ֣דְתָּ לִּ֔י וָֽאֲשַׁלֵּחֲךָ֛ בְּשִׂמְחָ֥ה וּבְשִׁרִ֖ים בְּתֹ֥ף וּבְכִנּֽוֹר ׃
καὶ εἰ ἀνήγγειλάς μοι ἐξαπέστειλα ἄν σε μετ’ εὐφροσύνης καὶ μετὰ μουσικῶν τυμπάνων καὶ κιθάρας
cur ignorante me fugere voluisti , nec indicare mihi , ut prosequerer te cum gaudio , et canticis , et tympanis , et citharis ?
ወሶበ ፡ ነገርከኒ ፡ እምፈነውኩከ ፡ በትፍሥሕት ፡ ወበሐሤት ፡ ወበማሕሌት ፡ ወበከበሮ ፡ ወመሰንቆ ።
Why did you flee secretly, and deceive me, and didn’t tell me, that I might have sent you away with mirth and with songs, with tambourine and with harp;
31:28 ⧉ ⤴︎ וְלֹ֣א נְטַשְׁתַּ֔נִי לְנַשֵּׁ֥ק לְבָנַ֖י וְלִבְנֹתָ֑י עַתָּ֖ה הִסְכַּ֥לְתָּֽ עֲשֽׂוֹ ׃
οὐκ ἠξιώθην καταφιλῆσαι τὰ παιδία μου καὶ τὰς θυγατέρας μου νῦν δὲ ἀφρόνως ἔπραξας
Non es passus ut oscularer filios meos et filias : stulte operatus es : et nunc quidem
ወሚመ ፡ ኢይደልወኒኑ ፡ ከመ ፡ እስዐም ፡ ደቂቅየ ፡ ወአዋልድየ ፡ ወይእዜሰ ፡ ከመ ፡ አብድ ፡ ገበርከ ።
and didn’t allow me to kiss my sons and my daughters? Now you have done foolishly.
31:29 ⧉ ⤴︎ יֶשׁ ־לְאֵ֣ל יָדִ֔י לַעֲשׂ֥וֹת עִמָּכֶ֖ם רָ֑ע וֵֽאלֹהֵ֨י אֲבִיכֶ֜ם אֶ֣מֶשׁ ׀ אָמַ֧ר אֵלַ֣י לֵאמֹ֗ר הִשָּׁ֧מֶר לְךָ֛ מִדַּבֵּ֥ר עִֽם ־יַעֲקֹ֖ב מִטּ֥וֹב עַד ־רָֽע ׃
καὶ νῦν ἰσχύει ἡ χείρ μου κακοποιῆσαί σε ὁ δὲ θεὸς τοῦ πατρός σου ἐχθὲς εἶπεν πρός με λέγων φύλαξαι σεαυτόν μήποτε λαλήσῃς μετὰ Ιακωβ πονηρά
valet manus mea reddere tibi malum : sed Deus patris vestri heri dixit mihi : Cave ne loquaris contra Jacob quidquam durius .
ወይእዜኒ ፡ እምክህልኩ ፡ ገቢረ ፡ እኩየ ፡ ላዕሌከ ፡ ወባሕቱ ፡ አምላከ ፡ አቡ [ከ ፡] ይቤለኒ ፡ ትማልም ፡ ዑቅ ፡ ርእሰከ ፡ ኢትግበር ፡ ሕሡመ ፡ ላዕለ ፡ ያዕቆብ ።
It is in the power of my hand to hurt you, but the God of your father spoke to me last night, saying, ‘Be careful that you don’t speak to Jacob either good or bad.’
31:30 ⧉ ⤴︎ וְעַתָּה֙ הָלֹ֣ךְ הָלַ֔כְתָּ כִּֽי ־נִכְסֹ֥ף נִכְסַ֖פְתָּה לְבֵ֣ית אָבִ֑יךָ לָ֥מָּה גָנַ֖בְתָּ אֶת ־אֱלֹהָֽי ׃
νῦν οὖν πεπόρευσαι ἐπιθυμίᾳ γὰρ ἐπεθύμησας ἀπελθεῖν εἰς τὸν οἶκον τοῦ πατρός σου ἵνα τί ἔκλεψας τοὺς θεούς μου
Esto , ad tuos ire cupiebas , et desiderio erat tibi domus patris tui : cur furatus es deos meos ?
ወይእዜኒ ፡ ሑር ፡ እስመ ፡ ፌተውከ ፡ ከመ ፡ ትሑር ፡ ቤተ ፡ አቡከ ፡ ወለምንት ፡ ትሰርቀኒ ፡ አማልክትየ ።
Now, you want to be gone, because you greatly longed for your father’s house, but why have you stolen my gods?”
31:31 ⧉ ⤴︎ וַיַּ֥עַן יַעֲקֹ֖ב וַיֹּ֣אמֶר לְלָבָ֑ן כִּ֣י יָרֵ֔אתִי כִּ֣י אָמַ֔רְתִּי פֶּן ־תִּגְזֹ֥ל אֶת ־בְּנוֹתֶ֖יךָ מֵעִמִּֽי ׃
ἀποκριθεὶς δὲ Ιακωβ εἶπεν τῷ Λαβαν εἶπα γάρ μήποτε ἀφέλῃς τὰς θυγατέρας σου ἀπ’ ἐμοῦ καὶ πάντα τὰ ἐμά
Respondit Jacob : Quod inscio te profectus sum , timui ne violenter auferres filias tuas .
ወአውሥአ ፡ ያዕቆብ ፡ ወይቤሎ ፡ ለላባ ፡ እስመ ፡ መስለኒ ፡ ዘተሀይደኒ ፡ አዋልዲከ ፡ ወኵሎ ፡ ንዋይየ ።
Jacob answered Laban, “Because I was afraid, for I said, ‘Lest you should take your daughters from me by force.’
31:32 ⧉ ⤴︎ עִ֠ם אֲשֶׁ֨ר תִּמְצָ֣א אֶת ־אֱלֹהֶ֘יךָ֮ לֹ֣א יִֽחְיֶה֒ נֶ֣גֶד אַחֵ֧ינוּ הַֽכֶּר ־לְךָ֛ מָ֥ה עִמָּדִ֖י וְקַֽח ־לָ֑ךְ וְלֹֽא ־יָדַ֣ע יַעֲקֹ֔ב כִּ֥י רָחֵ֖ל גְּנָבָֽתַם ׃
ἐπίγνωθι τί ἐστιν τῶν σῶν παρ’ ἐμοί καὶ λαβέ καὶ οὐκ ἐπέγνω παρ’ αὐτῷ οὐθέν καὶ εἶπεν αὐτῷ Ιακωβ παρ’ ᾧ ἐὰν εὕρῃς τοὺς θεούς σου οὐ ζήσεται ἐναντίον τῶν ἀδελφῶν ἡμῶν οὐκ ᾔδει δὲ Ιακωβ ὅτι Ραχηλ ἡ γυνὴ αὐτοῦ ἔκλεψεν αὐτούς
Quod autem furti me arguis : apud quemcumque inveneris deos tuos , necetur coram fratribus nostris : scrutare , quidquid tuorum apud me inveneris , et aufer . Haec dicens , ignorabat quod Rachel furata esset idola .
ወይእዜኒ ፡ ርኢ ፡ ለእመቦ ፡ ዘሀሎ ፡ ንዋይከ ፡ ኀቤየ ፡ ወንሣእ ፡ ወቦአ ፡ ላባ ፡ ወአልቦ ፡ ዘረከበ ፡ ወኢምንተ ፡ ወይቤ ፡ ያዕቆብ ፡ በኀበ ፡ ዘረከብከ ፡ አማልክቲከ ፡ ኢይሕየው ፡ ወናሁ ፡ በቅድመ ፡ እሎንቱ ፡ አኀዊነ ፡ ወኢያእመረ ፡ ያዕቆብ ፡ ከመ ፡ ራሔል ፡ ሰረቀት ።
Anyone you find your gods with shall not live. Before our relatives, discern what is yours with me, and take it.” For Jacob didn’t know that Rachel had stolen them.
31:33 ⧉ ⤴︎ וַיָּבֹ֨א לָבָ֜ן בְּאֹ֥הֶל יַעֲקֹ֣ב ׀ וּבְאֹ֣הֶל לֵאָ֗ה וּבְאֹ֛הֶל שְׁתֵּ֥י הָאֲמָהֹ֖ת וְלֹ֣א מָצָ֑א וַיֵּצֵא֙ מֵאֹ֣הֶל לֵאָ֔ה וַיָּבֹ֖א בְּאֹ֥הֶל רָחֵֽל ׃
εἰσελθὼν δὲ Λαβαν ἠρεύνησεν εἰς τὸν οἶκον Λειας καὶ οὐχ εὗρεν καὶ ἐξελθὼν ἐκ τοῦ οἴκου Λειας ἠρεύνησεν τὸν οἶκον Ιακωβ καὶ ἐν τῷ οἴκῳ τῶν δύο παιδισκῶν καὶ οὐχ εὗρεν εἰσῆλθεν δὲ καὶ εἰς τὸν οἶκον Ραχηλ
Ingressus itaque Laban tabernaculum Jacob , et Liae , et utriusque famulae , non invenit . Cumque intrasset tentorium Rachelis ,
ወቦአ ፡ ላባ ፡ ቤተ ፡ ልያ ፡ ወኢረከበ ፡ ወወፅአ ፡ ወቦአ ፡ ቤተ ፡ ያዕቆብ ፡ ወፈተነ ፡ ወቦአ ፡ ቤተ ፡ ክልኤሆን ፡ ዕቁባቲሁ ፡ ወኢረከበ ፡ ወቦአ ፡ ቤተ ፡ ራሔል ።
Laban went into Jacob’s tent, into Leah’s tent, and into the tent of the two female servants; but he didn’t find them. He went out of Leah’s tent, and entered into Rachel’s tent.
31:34 ⧉ ⤴︎ וְרָחֵ֞ל לָקְחָ֣ה אֶת ־הַתְּרָפִ֗ים וַתְּשִׂמֵ֛ם בְּכַ֥ר הַגָּמָ֖ל וַתֵּ֣שֶׁב עֲלֵיהֶ֑ם וַיְמַשֵּׁ֥שׁ לָבָ֛ן אֶת ־כׇּל ־הָאֹ֖הֶל וְלֹ֥א מָצָֽא ׃
Ραχηλ δὲ ἔλαβεν τὰ εἴδωλα καὶ ἐνέβαλεν αὐτὰ εἰς τὰ σάγματα τῆς καμήλου καὶ ἐπεκάθισεν αὐτοῖς
illa festinans abscondit idola subter stramenta cameli , et sedit desuper : scrutantique omne tentorium , et nihil invenienti ,
ወራሔልሰ ፡ ነሥአቶሙ ፡ ለአማልክተ ፡ አቡሃ ፡ ወወደየቶሙ ፡ ውስተ ፡ ሕንባላተ ፡ ገመል ፡ ወነበረት ፡ ላዕሌሁ ።
Now Rachel had taken the teraphim, put them in the camel’s saddle, and sat on them. Laban felt around all the tent, but didn’t find them.
31:35 ⧉ ⤴︎ וַתֹּ֣אמֶר אֶל ־אָבִ֗יהָ אַל ־יִ֙חַר֙ בְּעֵינֵ֣י אֲדֹנִ֔י כִּ֣י ל֤וֹא אוּכַל֙ לָק֣וּם מִפָּנֶ֔יךָ כִּי ־דֶ֥רֶךְ נָשִׁ֖ים לִ֑י וַיְחַפֵּ֕שׂ וְלֹ֥א מָצָ֖א אֶת ־הַתְּרָפִֽים ׃
καὶ εἶπεν τῷ πατρὶ αὐτῆς μὴ βαρέως φέρε κύριε οὐ δύναμαι ἀναστῆναι ἐνώπιόν σου ὅτι τὸ κατ’ ἐθισμὸν τῶν γυναικῶν μοί ἐστιν ἠρεύνησεν δὲ Λαβαν ἐν ὅλῳ τῷ οἴκῳ καὶ οὐχ εὗρεν τὰ εἴδωλα
ait : Ne irascatur dominus meus quod coram te assurgere nequeo : quia juxta consuetudinem feminarum nunc accidit mihi : sic delusa sollicitudo quaerentis est .
ወትቤሎ ፡ ለአቡሃ ፡ ኢይምሰልከ ፡ ዘአስተሐቀርኩከ ፡ እግዚእየ ፡ እስመ ፡ ኢይክል ፡ ተንሥኦ ፡ ቅድሜከ ፡ እስመ ፡ ትክት ፡ አነ ፡ ወፈተነ ፡ ላባ ፡ ኵሎ ፡ ቤታ ፡ ለራሔል ፡ ወኢረከበ ፡ አማልክቲሁ ።
She said to her father, “Don’t let my lord be angry that I can’t rise up before you; for I’m having my period.” He searched, but didn’t find the teraphim.
31:36 ⧉ ⤴︎ וַיִּ֥חַר לְיַעֲקֹ֖ב וַיָּ֣רֶב בְּלָבָ֑ן וַיַּ֤עַן יַעֲקֹב֙ וַיֹּ֣אמֶר לְלָבָ֔ן מַה ־פִּשְׁעִי֙ מַ֣ה חַטָּאתִ֔י כִּ֥י דָלַ֖קְתָּ אַחֲרָֽי ׃
ὠργίσθη δὲ Ιακωβ καὶ ἐμαχέσατο τῷ Λαβαν ἀποκριθεὶς δὲ Ιακωβ εἶπεν τῷ Λαβαν τί τὸ ἀδίκημά μου καὶ τί τὸ ἁμάρτημά μου ὅτι κατεδίωξας ὀπίσω μου
Tumensque Jacob , cum jurgio ait : Quam ob culpam meam , et ob quod peccatum meum sic exarsisti post me ,
ወተምዐ ፡ ያዕቆብ ፡ ወተላኰዮ ፡ ለላባ ፡ ወይቤሎ ፡ ምንት ፡ አበሳየ ፡ ወምንት ፡ ጌጋይየ ፡ ዘዴገንከኒ ፤
Jacob was angry, and argued with Laban. Jacob answered Laban, “What is my trespass? What is my sin, that you have hotly pursued me?
31:37 ⧉ ⤴︎ כִּֽי ־מִשַּׁ֣שְׁתָּ אֶת ־כׇּל ־כֵּלַ֗י מַה ־מָּצָ֙אתָ֙ מִכֹּ֣ל כְּלֵי ־בֵיתֶ֔ךָ שִׂ֣ים כֹּ֔ה נֶ֥גֶד אַחַ֖י וְאַחֶ֑יךָ וְיוֹכִ֖יחוּ בֵּ֥ין שְׁנֵֽינוּ ׃
καὶ ὅτι ἠρεύνησας πάντα τὰ σκεύη μου τί εὗρες ἀπὸ πάντων τῶν σκευῶν τοῦ οἴκου σου θὲς ὧδε ἐναντίον τῶν ἀδελφῶν μου καὶ τῶν ἀδελφῶν σου καὶ ἐλεγξάτωσαν ἀνὰ μέσον τῶν δύο ἡμῶν
et scrutatus es omnem supellectilem meam ? quid invenisti de cuncta substantia domus tuae ? pone hic coram fratribus meis , et fratribus tuis , et judicent inter me et te .
ወፈተንከኒ ፡ ኵሎ ፡ ንዋይየ ፡ ምንተ ፡ ረከብከ ፡ እምነ ፡ ቍስቋሰ ፡ ቤትከ ፡ ናስተኣኅዝኑ ፡ ቅድመ ፡ እሎንቱ ፡ አኀዊነ ፡ ወይዝልፉ ፡ ማእከሌነ ።
Now that you have felt around in all my stuff, what have you found of all your household stuff? Set it here before my relatives and your relatives, that they may judge between us two.
31:38 ⧉ ⤴︎ זֶה֩ עֶשְׂרִ֨ים שָׁנָ֤ה אָנֹכִי֙ עִמָּ֔ךְ רְחֵלֶ֥יךָ וְעִזֶּ֖יךָ לֹ֣א שִׁכֵּ֑לוּ וְאֵילֵ֥י צֹאנְךָ֖ לֹ֥א אָכָֽלְתִּי ׃
ταῦτά μοι εἴκοσι ἔτη ἐγώ εἰμι μετὰ σοῦ τὰ πρόβατά σου καὶ αἱ αἶγές σου οὐκ ἠτεκνώθησαν κριοὺς τῶν προβάτων σου οὐ κατέφαγον
Idcirco viginti annis fui tecum ? oves tuae et caprae steriles non fuerunt , arietes gregis tui non comedi :
ዕሥራ ፡ ዓመት ፡ ሊተ ፡ እንዘ ፡ አዐቅብ ፡ አባግዒከ ፡ ወአጣሌከ ፡ ወኢማሕስአ ፡ በግዕ ፡ ኢበላዕኩ ፡ እምነ ፡ አባግዒከ ።
“These twenty years I have been with you. Your ewes and your female goats have not cast their young, and I haven’t eaten the rams of your flocks.
31:39 ⧉ ⤴︎ טְרֵפָה֙ לֹא ־הֵבֵ֣אתִי אֵלֶ֔יךָ אָנֹכִ֣י אֲחַטֶּ֔נָּה מִיָּדִ֖י תְּבַקְשֶׁ֑נָּה גְּנֻֽבְתִ֣י י֔וֹם וּגְנֻֽבְתִ֖י לָֽיְלָה ׃
θηριάλωτον οὐκ ἀνενήνοχά σοι ἐγὼ ἀπετίννυον παρ’ ἐμαυτοῦ κλέμματα ἡμέρας καὶ κλέμματα νυκτός
nec captum a bestia ostendi tibi , ego damnum omne reddebam : quidquid furto peribat , a me exigebas :
ወብላዐ ፡ አርዌኒ ፡ ኢያምጻእኩ ፡ ለከ ፡ አነ ፡ እፈዲ ፡ እምኀቤየ ፡ እመኒቦ ፡ ዘሰርቀ ፡ እመኒ ፡ መዓልተ ፡ ወእመኒ ፡ ሌሊተ ።
That which was torn of animals, I didn’t bring to you. I bore its loss. Of my hand you required it, whether stolen by day or stolen by night.
31:40 ⧉ ⤴︎ הָיִ֧יתִי בַיּ֛וֹם אֲכָלַ֥נִי חֹ֖רֶב וְקֶ֣רַח בַּלָּ֑יְלָה וַתִּדַּ֥ד שְׁנָתִ֖י מֵֽעֵינָֽי ׃
ἐγινόμην τῆς ἡμέρας συγκαιόμενος τῷ καύματι καὶ παγετῷ τῆς νυκτός καὶ ἀφίστατο ὁ ὕπνος ἀπὸ τῶν ὀφθαλμῶν μου
die noctuque aestu urebar , et gelu , fugiebatque somnus ab oculis meis .
ውስተ ፡ ጠል ፡ እበይት ፡ ወነፍጸ ፡ ንዋም ፡ እምአዕይንትየ ።
This was my situation: in the day the drought consumed me, and the frost by night; and my sleep fled from my eyes.
31:41 ⧉ ⤴︎ זֶה ־לִּ֞י עֶשְׂרִ֣ים שָׁנָה֮ בְּבֵיתֶ֒ךָ֒ עֲבַדְתִּ֜יךָ אַרְבַּֽע ־עֶשְׂרֵ֤ה שָׁנָה֙ בִּשְׁתֵּ֣י בְנֹתֶ֔יךָ וְשֵׁ֥שׁ שָׁנִ֖ים בְּצֹאנֶ֑ךָ וַתַּחֲלֵ֥ף אֶת ־מַשְׂכֻּרְתִּ֖י עֲשֶׂ֥רֶת מֹנִֽים ׃
ταῦτά μοι εἴκοσι ἔτη ἐγώ εἰμι ἐν τῇ οἰκίᾳ σου ἐδούλευσά σοι δέκα τέσσαρα ἔτη ἀντὶ τῶν δύο θυγατέρων σου καὶ ἓξ ἔτη ἐν τοῖς προβάτοις σου καὶ παρελογίσω τὸν μισθόν μου δέκα ἀμνάσιν
Sicque per viginti annos in domo tua servivi tibi , quatuordecim pro filiabus , et sex pro gregibus tuis : immutasti quoque mercedem meam decem vicibus .
ዕሥራ ፡ ዓመት ፡ ሊተ ፡ ዮም ፡ ውስተ ፡ ቤትከ ፡ ዘተቀነይኩ ፡ ለከ ፡ ዐሠርተ ፡ ወአርባዕተ ፡ ዓመተ ፡ ተቀነይኩ ፡ ለከ ፡ በእንተ ፡ ክልኤ ፡ አዋልዲከ ፡ ወስድስተ ፡ ዓመተ ፡ ውስተ ፡ አባግዒከ ፡ ወረሰይከ ፡ ሊተ ፡ ዐስብየ ፡ ዐሥሩ ፡ አባግዐ ።
These twenty years I have been in your house. I served you fourteen years for your two daughters, and six years for your flock, and you have changed my wages ten times.
31:42 ⧉ ⤴︎ לוּלֵ֡י אֱלֹהֵ֣י אָבִי֩ אֱלֹהֵ֨י אַבְרָהָ֜ם וּפַ֤חַד יִצְחָק֙ הָ֣יָה לִ֔י כִּ֥י עַתָּ֖ה רֵיקָ֣ם שִׁלַּחְתָּ֑נִי אֶת ־עׇנְיִ֞י וְאֶת ־יְגִ֧יעַ כַּפַּ֛י רָאָ֥ה אֱלֹהִ֖ים וַיּ֥וֹכַח אָֽמֶשׁ ׃
εἰ μὴ ὁ θεὸς τοῦ πατρός μου Αβρααμ καὶ ὁ φόβος Ισαακ ἦν μοι νῦν ἂν κενόν με ἐξαπέστειλας τὴν ταπείνωσίν μου καὶ τὸν κόπον τῶν χειρῶν μου εἶδεν ὁ θεὸς καὶ ἤλεγξέν σε ἐχθές
Nisi Deus patris mei Abraham , et timor Isaac affuisset mihi , forsitan modo nudum me dimisisses : afflictionem meam et laborem manuum mearum respexit Deus , et arguit te heri .
ሶበ ፡ አኮ ፡ አምላከ ፡ አብርሃም ፡ አቡየ ፡ ዘሀሎ ፡ ምስሌየ ፡ ወሶበ ፡ አኮ ፡ በፍርሀተ ፡ ይስሐቅ ፡ ዕራቅየ ፡ እምፈነውከኒ ፡ ወርእየ ፡ እግዚአብሔር ፡ ጻማሆን ፡ ለእደውየ ፡ ወገሠጸከ ፡ ትማልም ።
Unless the God of my father, the God of Abraham, and the fear of Isaac, had been with me, surely now you would have sent me away empty. God has seen my affliction and the labor of my hands, and rebuked you last night.”
31:43 ⧉ ⤴︎ וַיַּ֨עַן לָבָ֜ן וַיֹּ֣אמֶר אֶֽל ־יַעֲקֹ֗ב הַבָּנ֨וֹת בְּנֹתַ֜י וְהַבָּנִ֤ים בָּנַי֙ וְהַצֹּ֣אן צֹאנִ֔י וְכֹ֛ל אֲשֶׁר ־אַתָּ֥ה רֹאֶ֖ה לִי ־ה֑וּא וְלִבְנֹתַ֞י מָֽה ־אֶעֱשֶׂ֤ה לָאֵ֙לֶּה֙ הַיּ֔וֹם א֥וֹ לִבְנֵיהֶ֖ן אֲשֶׁ֥ר יָלָֽדוּ ׃
ἀποκριθεὶς δὲ Λαβαν εἶπεν τῷ Ιακωβ αἱ θυγατέρες θυγατέρες μου καὶ οἱ υἱοὶ υἱοί μου καὶ τὰ κτήνη κτήνη μου καὶ πάντα ὅσα σὺ ὁρᾷς ἐμά ἐστιν καὶ τῶν θυγατέρων μου τί ποιήσω ταύταις σήμερον ἢ τοῖς τέκνοις αὐτῶν οἷς ἔτεκον
Respondit ei Laban : Filiae meae et filii , et greges tui , et omnia quae cernis , mea sunt : quid possum facere filiis et nepotibus meis ?
ወአውሥአ ፡ ላባ ፡ ለያዕቆብ ፡ ወይቤሎ ፡ አዋልድኒ ፡ አዋልድየ ፡ ወደቂቅኒ ፡ ደቂቅየ ፡ ወእንስሳሂ ፡ እንስሳየ ፡ ወኵሉዝ ፡ ዘትሬኢ ፡ ዘዚአየ ፡ ውእቱ ፡ ወዘአዋልድየ ፡ ምንተ ፡ እንከ ፡ እሬስዮን ፡ ሎንቱ ፡ ዮም ፡ ወለውሉዶንሂ ፡ ዘወለዶ ።
Laban answered Jacob, “The daughters are my daughters, the children are my children, the flocks are my flocks, and all that you see is mine! What can I do today to these my daughters, or to their children whom they have borne?
31:44 ⧉ ⤴︎ וְעַתָּ֗ה לְכָ֛ה נִכְרְתָ֥ה בְרִ֖ית אֲנִ֣י וָאָ֑תָּה וְהָיָ֥ה לְעֵ֖ד בֵּינִ֥י וּבֵינֶֽךָ ׃
νῦν οὖν δεῦρο διαθώμεθα διαθήκην ἐγὼ καὶ σύ καὶ ἔσται εἰς μαρτύριον ἀνὰ μέσον ἐμοῦ καὶ σοῦ εἶπεν δὲ αὐτῷ ἰδοὺ οὐθεὶς μεθ’ ἡμῶν ἐστιν ἰδὲ ὁ θεὸς μάρτυς ἀνὰ μέσον ἐμοῦ καὶ σοῦ
Veni ergo , et ineamus foedus , ut sit in testimonium inter me et te .
ወይእዜኒ ፡ ነዓ ፡ ንትማሐል ፡ አነ ፡ ወአንተ ፡ ወይኩን ፡ ሰላም ፡ ማእከሌየ ፡ ወማእከሌከ ።
Now come, let’s make a covenant, you and I. Let it be for a witness between me and you.”
31:45 ⧉ ⤴︎ וַיִּקַּ֥ח יַעֲקֹ֖ב אָ֑בֶן וַיְרִימֶ֖הָ מַצֵּבָֽה ׃
λαβὼν δὲ Ιακωβ λίθον ἔστησεν αὐτὸν στήλην
Tulit itaque Jacob lapidem , et erexit illum in titulum :
ወነሥአ ፡ ያዕቆብ ፡ እብነ ፡ ወአቀመ ፡ ሐውልተ ።
Jacob took a stone, and set it up for a pillar.
31:46 ⧉ ⤴︎ וַיֹּ֨אמֶר יַעֲקֹ֤ב לְאֶחָיו֙ לִקְט֣וּ אֲבָנִ֔ים וַיִּקְח֥וּ אֲבָנִ֖ים וַיַּֽעֲשׂוּ ־גָ֑ל וַיֹּ֥אכְלוּ שָׁ֖ם עַל ־הַגָּֽל ׃
εἶπεν δὲ Ιακωβ τοῖς ἀδελφοῖς αὐτοῦ συλλέγετε λίθους καὶ συνέλεξαν λίθους καὶ ἐποίησαν βουνόν καὶ ἔφαγον καὶ ἔπιον ἐκεῖ ἐπὶ τοῦ βουνοῦ καὶ εἶπεν αὐτῷ Λαβαν ὁ βουνὸς οὗτος μαρτυρεῖ ἀνὰ μέσον ἐμοῦ καὶ σοῦ σήμερον
dixitque fratribus suis : Afferte lapides . Qui congregantes fecerunt tumulum , comederuntque super eum :
ወይቤሎሙ ፡ ያዕቆብ ፡ ለአኀዊሁ ፡ አልዱ ፡ እብነ ፡ ወአለዱ ፡ እብነ ፡ [ወገብሩ ፡ ወግረ ፡] ወበልዑ ፡ ወሰትዩ ፡ በኀበ ፡ ይእቲ ፡ እብነ ፡ ወግር ፡ ወይቤሎ ፡ ላባ ፡ ዛቲ ፡ እብን ፡ ስምዕ ፡ ማእከሌየ ፡ ወማእከሌከ ፡ ዮም ።
Jacob said to his relatives, “Gather stones.” They took stones, and made a heap. They ate there by the heap.
31:47 ⧉ ⤴︎ וַיִּקְרָא ־ל֣וֹ לָבָ֔ן יְגַ֖ר שָׂהֲדוּתָ֑א וְיַֽעֲקֹ֔ב קָ֥רָא ל֖וֹ גַּלְעֵֽד ׃
καὶ ἐκάλεσεν αὐτὸν Λαβαν Βουνὸς τῆς μαρτυρίας Ιακωβ δὲ ἐκάλεσεν αὐτὸν Βουνὸς μάρτυς
quem vocavit Laban Tumulum testis : et Jacob , Acervum testimonii , uterque juxta proprietatem linguae suae .
ወሰመያ ፡ ላባ ፡ ወግረ ፡ ስምዕ ፡ ወያዕቆብኒ ፡ ሰመያ ፡ ከማሁ ።
Laban called it Jegar Sahadutha, but Jacob called it Galeed.
31:48 ⧉ ⤴︎ וַיֹּ֣אמֶר לָבָ֔ן הַגַּ֨ל הַזֶּ֥ה עֵ֛ד בֵּינִ֥י וּבֵינְךָ֖ הַיּ֑וֹם עַל ־כֵּ֥ן קָרָֽא ־שְׁמ֖וֹ גַּלְעֵֽד ׃
εἶπεν δὲ Λαβαν τῷ Ιακωβ ἰδοὺ ὁ βουνὸς οὗτος καὶ ἡ στήλη αὕτη ἣν ἔστησα ἀνὰ μέσον ἐμοῦ καὶ σοῦ μαρτυρεῖ ὁ βουνὸς οὗτος καὶ μαρτυρεῖ ἡ στήλη αὕτη διὰ τοῦτο ἐκλήθη τὸ ὄνομα αὐτοῦ Βουνὸς μαρτυρεῖ
Dixitque Laban : Tumulus iste erit testis inter me et te hodie , et idcirco appellatum est nomen ejus Galaad , id est , Tumulus testis .
ወይቤሎ ፡ ላባ ፡ ለያዕቆብ ፡ ናሁ ፡ ዛቲ ፡ ሐውልት ፡ እንተ ፡ ኣቀውም ፡ ስምዕ ፡ ማእከሌየ ፡ ወማእከሌከ ፡ ወበእንተ ፡ ዝንቱ ፡ ተሰምየ ፡ ስማ ፡ ወግረ ፡ ስምዕ ።
Laban said, “This heap is witness between me and you today.” Therefore it was named Galeed
31:49 ⧉ ⤴︎ וְהַמִּצְפָּה֙ אֲשֶׁ֣ר אָמַ֔ר יִ֥צֶף יְהֹוָ֖ה בֵּינִ֣י וּבֵינֶ֑ךָ כִּ֥י נִסָּתֵ֖ר אִ֥ישׁ מֵרֵעֵֽהוּ ׃
καὶ ἡ ὅρασις ἣν εἶπεν ἐπίδοι ὁ θεὸς ἀνὰ μέσον ἐμοῦ καὶ σοῦ ὅτι ἀποστησόμεθα ἕτερος ἀπὸ τοῦ ἑτέρου
Intueatur et judicet Dominus inter nos quando recesserimus a nobis ,
ወራእይ ፡ ዘአስተርአየኒ ፡ እግዚአብሔር ፡ ይርአይ ፡ ማእከሌየ ፡ ወማእከሌከ ፡ እስመ ፡ ንትራሐቅ ፡ አሐዱ ፡ ምስለ ፡ ካልኡ ፤
and Mizpah, for he said, “Yahweh watch between me and you, when we are absent one from another.
31:50 ⧉ ⤴︎ אִם ־תְּעַנֶּ֣ה אֶת ־בְּנֹתַ֗י וְאִם ־תִּקַּ֤ח נָשִׁים֙ עַל ־בְּנֹתַ֔י אֵ֥ין אִ֖ישׁ עִמָּ֑נוּ רְאֵ֕ה אֱלֹהִ֥ים עֵ֖ד בֵּינִ֥י וּבֵינֶֽךָ ׃
εἰ ταπεινώσεις τὰς θυγατέρας μου εἰ λήμψῃ γυναῖκας ἐπὶ ταῖς θυγατράσιν μου ὅρα οὐθεὶς μεθ’ ἡμῶν ἐστιν
si afflixeris filias meas , et si introduxeris alias uxores super eas : nullus sermonis nostri testis est absque Deo , qui praesens respicit .
ከመ ፡ ኢትሣቅዮን ፡ ለአዋልድየ ፡ ወከመ ፡ ኢትንሣእ ፡ ብእሲተ ፡ ላዕሌሆን ፤
If you afflict my daughters, or if you take wives in addition to my daughters, no man is with us; behold, God is witness between me and you.”
31:51 ⧉ ⤴︎ וַיֹּ֥אמֶר לָבָ֖ן לְיַעֲקֹ֑ב הִנֵּ֣ה ׀ הַגַּ֣ל הַזֶּ֗ה וְהִנֵּה֙ הַמַּצֵּבָ֔ה אֲשֶׁ֥ר יָרִ֖יתִי בֵּינִ֥י וּבֵינֶֽךָ ׃
— Dixitque rursus ad Jacob : En tumulus hic , et lapis quem erexi inter me et te ,
ወርኢ ፡ ናሁ ፡ አልቦ ፡ ዘሀሎ ፡ ምስሌነ ።
Laban said to Jacob, “See this heap, and see the pillar, which I have set between me and you.
31:52 ⧉ ⤴︎ עֵ֚ד הַגַּ֣ל הַזֶּ֔ה וְעֵדָ֖ה הַמַּצֵּבָ֑ה אִם ־אָ֗נִי לֹֽא ־אֶעֱבֹ֤ר אֵלֶ֙יךָ֙ אֶת ־הַגַּ֣ל הַזֶּ֔ה וְאִם ־אַ֠תָּ֠ה לֹא ־תַעֲבֹ֨ר אֵלַ֜י אֶת ־הַגַּ֥ל הַזֶּ֛ה וְאֶת ־הַמַּצֵּבָ֥ה הַזֹּ֖את לְרָעָֽה ׃
ἐάν τε γὰρ ἐγὼ μὴ διαβῶ πρὸς σὲ μηδὲ σὺ διαβῇς πρός με τὸν βουνὸν τοῦτον καὶ τὴν στήλην ταύτην ἐπὶ κακίᾳ
testis erit : tumulus , inquam , iste et lapis sint in testimonium , si aut ego transiero illum pergens ad te , aut tu praeterieris , malum mihi cogitans .
እመኒ ፡ (ኢ )ዐደውኩ ፡ ኀቤከ ፡ ዛቲ ፡ ወግር ፡ ወዛቲ ፡ ሐውልት ፡ ትትልወኒ ፡ በእኪት ፡ ወአንተኒ ፡ ለእመ ፡ (ኢ )ዐደውከ ፡ ኀቤየ ።
May this heap be a witness, and the pillar be a witness, that I will not pass over this heap to you, and that you will not pass over this heap and this pillar to me, for harm.
31:53 ⧉ ⤴︎ אֱלֹהֵ֨י אַבְרָהָ֜ם וֵֽאלֹהֵ֤י נָחוֹר֙ יִשְׁפְּט֣וּ בֵינֵ֔ינוּ אֱלֹהֵ֖י אֲבִיהֶ֑ם וַיִּשָּׁבַ֣ע יַעֲקֹ֔ב בְּפַ֖חַד אָבִ֥יו יִצְחָֽק ׃
ὁ θεὸς Αβρααμ καὶ ὁ θεὸς Ναχωρ κρινεῖ ἀνὰ μέσον ἡμῶν καὶ ὤμοσεν Ιακωβ κατὰ τοῦ φόβου τοῦ πατρὸς αὐτοῦ Ισαακ
Deus Abraham , et Deus Nachor , judicet inter nos , Deus patris eorum . Juravit ergo Jacob per timorem patris sui Isaac :
አምላከ ፡ አብርሃም ፡ ወአምላከ ፡ ናኮር ፡ ይፍታሕ ፡ ማእከሌነ ፡ ወመሐለ ፡ ሎቱ ፡ ያዕቆብ ፡ በፍርሀተ ፡ ይስሐቅ ፡ አቡሁ ።
The God of Abraham, and the God of Nahor, the God of their father, judge between us.” Then Jacob swore by the fear of his father, Isaac.
31:54 ⧉ ⤴︎ וַיִּזְבַּ֨ח יַעֲקֹ֥ב זֶ֙בַח֙ בָּהָ֔ר וַיִּקְרָ֥א לְאֶחָ֖יו לֶאֱכׇל ־לָ֑חֶם וַיֹּ֣אכְלוּ לֶ֔חֶם וַיָּלִ֖ינוּ בָּהָֽר ׃
καὶ ἔθυσεν Ιακωβ θυσίαν ἐν τῷ ὄρει καὶ ἐκάλεσεν τοὺς ἀδελφοὺς αὐτοῦ καὶ ἔφαγον καὶ ἔπιον καὶ ἐκοιμήθησαν ἐν τῷ ὄρει
immolatisque victimis in monte , vocavit fratres suos ut ederent panem . Qui cum comedissent , manserunt ibi :
ወሦዐ ፡ ያዕቆብ ፡ መሥዋዕተ ፡ በውስተ ፡ ደብር ፡ ወጸውዐ ፡ አኀዊሁ ፡ ወበልዑ ፡ ወሰትዩ ፡ ወቤቱ ፡ ውስተ ፡ ውእቱ ፡ ደብር ።
Jacob offered a sacrifice in the mountain, and called his relatives to eat bread. They ate bread, and stayed all night in the mountain.
31:55 ⧉ ⤴︎ — — Laban vero de nocte consurgens , osculatus est filios , et filias suas , et benedixit illis : reversusque est in locum suum .
— Early in the morning, Laban rose up, and kissed his sons and his daughters, and blessed them. Laban departed and returned to his place.
