28:1 ⧉ ⤴︎ וַיִּקְרָ֥א יִצְחָ֛ק אֶֽל ־יַעֲקֹ֖ב וַיְבָ֣רֶךְ אֹת֑וֹ וַיְצַוֵּ֙הוּ֙ וַיֹּ֣אמֶר ל֔וֹ לֹֽא ־תִקַּ֥ח אִשָּׁ֖ה מִבְּנ֥וֹת כְּנָֽעַן ׃
προσκαλεσάμενος δὲ Ισαακ τὸν Ιακωβ εὐλόγησεν αὐτὸν καὶ ἐνετείλατο αὐτῷ λέγων οὐ λήμψῃ γυναῖκα ἐκ τῶν θυγατέρων Χανααν
Vocavit itaque Isaac Jacob , et benedixit eum , praecepitque ei dicens : Noli accipere conjugem de genere Chanaan :
ወጸውዖ ፡ ይስሐቅ ፡ ለያዕቆብ ፡ ወልዱ ፡ ወባረኮ ፡ ወይቤሎ ፡ ኢትንሣእ ፡ ብእሲተ ፡ እምአዋልደ ፡ ከናአን ።
Isaac called Jacob, blessed him, and commanded him, “You shall not take a wife of the daughters of Canaan.
28:2 ⧉ ⤴︎ ק֥וּם לֵךְ֙ פַּדֶּ֣נָֽה אֲרָ֔ם בֵּ֥יתָה בְתוּאֵ֖ל אֲבִ֣י אִמֶּ֑ךָ וְקַח ־לְךָ֤ מִשָּׁם֙ אִשָּׁ֔ה מִבְּנ֥וֹת לָבָ֖ן אֲחִ֥י אִמֶּֽךָ ׃
ἀναστὰς ἀπόδραθι εἰς τὴν Μεσοποταμίαν εἰς τὸν οἶκον Βαθουηλ τοῦ πατρὸς τῆς μητρός σου καὶ λαβὲ σεαυτῷ ἐκεῖθεν γυναῖκα ἐκ τῶν θυγατέρων Λαβαν τοῦ ἀδελφοῦ τῆς μητρός σου
sed vade , et proficiscere in Mesopotamiam Syriae , ad domum Bathuel patris matris tuae , et accipe tibi inde uxorem de filiabus Laban avunculi tui .
ተንሥእ ፡ ወሑር ፡ ማእከለ ፡ አፍላግ ፡ ውስተ ፡ ቤተ ፡ ባቱኤል ፡ ኀበ ፡ [አቡ ]ሃ ፡ ለእምከ ፡ ወንሣእ ፡ ለከ ፡ ብእሲተ ፡ እምአዋልዲሁ ፡ ለላባ ፡ እኁሃ ፡ ለእምከ ።
Arise, go to Paddan Aram, to the house of Bethuel your mother’s father. Take a wife from there from the daughters of Laban, your mother’s brother.
28:3 ⧉ ⤴︎ וְאֵ֤ל שַׁדַּי֙ יְבָרֵ֣ךְ אֹֽתְךָ֔ וְיַפְרְךָ֖ וְיַרְבֶּ֑ךָ וְהָיִ֖יתָ לִקְהַ֥ל עַמִּֽים ׃
ὁ δὲ θεός μου εὐλογήσαι σε καὶ αὐξήσαι σε καὶ πληθύναι σε καὶ ἔσῃ εἰς συναγωγὰς ἐθνῶν
Deus autem omnipotens benedicat tibi , et crescere te faciat , atque multiplicet , ut sis in turbas populorum .
ወአምላኪየ ፡ ውእቱ ፡ የሐውር ፡ ምስሌከ ፡ ወያዐቢየከ ፡ ወይባርክ ፡ ወያበዝኅከ ፡ ወትከውን ፡ ብዙኀ ፡ አሕዛበ ።
May God Almighty bless you, and make you fruitful, and multiply you, that you may be a company of peoples,
28:4 ⧉ ⤴︎ וְיִֽתֶּן ־לְךָ֙ אֶת ־בִּרְכַּ֣ת אַבְרָהָ֔ם לְךָ֖ וּלְזַרְעֲךָ֣ אִתָּ֑ךְ לְרִשְׁתְּךָ֙ אֶת ־אֶ֣רֶץ מְגֻרֶ֔יךָ אֲשֶׁר ־נָתַ֥ן אֱלֹהִ֖ים לְאַבְרָהָֽם ׃
καὶ δῴη σοι τὴν εὐλογίαν Αβρααμ τοῦ πατρός μου σοὶ καὶ τῷ σπέρματί σου μετὰ σέ κληρονομῆσαι τὴν γῆν τῆς παροικήσεώς σου ἣν ἔδωκεν ὁ θεὸς τῷ Αβρααμ
Et det tibi benedictiones Abrahae , et semini tuo post te : ut possideas terram peregrinationis tuae , quam pollicitus est avo tuo .
ወይሁበከ ፡ በረከተ ፡ አብርሃም ፡ አቡከ ፡ ለከ ፡ ወለዘርእከ ፡ እምድኅሬከ ፡ ከመ ፡ ትረሳ ፡ ለይእቲ ፡ ምድር ፡ እንተ ፡ ወሀቦ ፡ ለአብርሃም ።
and give you the blessing of Abraham, to you and to your offspring with you, that you may inherit the land where you travel, which God gave to Abraham.”
28:5 ⧉ ⤴︎ וַיִּשְׁלַ֤ח יִצְחָק֙ אֶֽת ־יַעֲקֹ֔ב וַיֵּ֖לֶךְ פַּדֶּ֣נָֽה אֲרָ֑ם אֶל ־לָבָ֤ן בֶּן ־בְּתוּאֵל֙ הָֽאֲרַמִּ֔י אֲחִ֣י רִבְקָ֔ה אֵ֥ם יַעֲקֹ֖ב וְעֵשָֽׂו ׃
καὶ ἀπέστειλεν Ισαακ τὸν Ιακωβ καὶ ἐπορεύθη εἰς τὴν Μεσοποταμίαν πρὸς Λαβαν τὸν υἱὸν Βαθουηλ τοῦ Σύρου ἀδελφὸν δὲ Ρεβεκκας τῆς μητρὸς Ιακωβ καὶ Ησαυ
Cumque dimisisset eum Isaac , profectus venit in Mesopotamiam Syriae ad Laban filium Bathuel Syri , fratrem Rebeccae matris suae .
ወፈነዎ ፡ ይስሐቅ ፡ ለያዕቆብ ፡ ወልዱ ፡ ማእከለ ፡ አፍላግ ፡ ዘሶርያ ፡ ኀበ ፡ ላባ ፡ ወልደ ፡ ባቱኤል ፡ ሶርያዊ ፡ እኁሃ ፡ ለርብቃ ።
Isaac sent Jacob away. He went to Paddan Aram to Laban, son of Bethuel the Syrian, the brother of Rebekah, Jacob’s and Esau’s mother.
28:6 ⧉ ⤴︎ וַיַּ֣רְא עֵשָׂ֗ו כִּֽי ־בֵרַ֣ךְ יִצְחָק֮ אֶֽת ־יַעֲקֹב֒ וְשִׁלַּ֤ח אֹתוֹ֙ פַּדֶּ֣נָֽה אֲרָ֔ם לָקַֽחַת ־ל֥וֹ מִשָּׁ֖ם אִשָּׁ֑ה בְּבָרְכ֣וֹ אֹת֔וֹ וַיְצַ֤ו עָלָיו֙ לֵאמֹ֔ר לֹֽא ־תִקַּ֥ח אִשָּׁ֖ה מִבְּנ֥וֹת כְּנָֽעַן ׃
εἶδεν δὲ Ησαυ ὅτι εὐλόγησεν Ισαακ τὸν Ιακωβ καὶ ἀπῴχετο εἰς τὴν Μεσοποταμίαν Συρίας λαβεῖν ἑαυτῷ ἐκεῖθεν γυναῖκα ἐν τῷ εὐλογεῖν αὐτὸν καὶ ἐνετείλατο αὐτῷ λέγων οὐ λήμψῃ γυναῖκα ἀπὸ τῶν θυγατέρων Χανααν
Videns autem Esau quod benedixisset pater suus Jacob , et misisset eum in Mesopotamiam Syriae , ut inde uxorem duceret ; et quod post benedictionem praecepisset ei , dicens : Non accipies uxorem de filiabus Chanaan :
ወሶበ ፡ ርእየ ፡ ዔሳው ፡ ከመ ፡ ባረኮ ፡ አቡሁ ፡ ለያዕቆብ ፡ ወሖረ ፡ ማእከለ ፡ አፍላግ ፡ ዘሶርያ ፡ ከመ ፡ ይንሣእ ፡ ብእሲተ ፡ እምህየ ፡ ዘባረከ ፡ ወአዘዞ ፡ ከመ ፡ ኢይንሣእ ፡ ሎቱ ፡ ብእሲተ ፡ እምህየ ፡ እምአዋልደ ፡ ከናአን ፤
Now Esau saw that Isaac had blessed Jacob and sent him away to Paddan Aram, to take him a wife from there, and that as he blessed him he gave him a command, saying, “You shall not take a wife of the daughters of Canaan;”
28:7 ⧉ ⤴︎ וַיִּשְׁמַ֣ע יַעֲקֹ֔ב אֶל ־אָבִ֖יו וְאֶל ־אִמּ֑וֹ וַיֵּ֖לֶךְ פַּדֶּ֥נָֽה אֲרָֽם ׃
καὶ ἤκουσεν Ιακωβ τοῦ πατρὸς καὶ τῆς μητρὸς αὐτοῦ καὶ ἐπορεύθη εἰς τὴν Μεσοποταμίαν Συρίας
quodque obediens Jacob parentibus suis isset in Syriam :
ወሰምዖሙ ፡ ያዕቆብ ፡ ለአቡሁ ፡ ወለእሙ ፡ ወሖረ ፡ ማእከለ ፡ አፍላግ ፤
and that Jacob obeyed his father and his mother, and was gone to Paddan Aram.
28:8 ⧉ ⤴︎ וַיַּ֣רְא עֵשָׂ֔ו כִּ֥י רָע֖וֹת בְּנ֣וֹת כְּנָ֑עַן בְּעֵינֵ֖י יִצְחָ֥ק אָבִֽיו ׃
καὶ εἶδεν Ησαυ ὅτι πονηραί εἰσιν αἱ θυγατέρες Χανααν ἐναντίον Ισαακ τοῦ πατρὸς αὐτοῦ
probans quoque quod non libenter aspiceret filias Chanaan pater suus :
ወሶበ ፡ ርእየ ፡ ዔሳው ፡ ከመ ፡ እኩያት ፡ እማንቱ ፡ አዋልደ ፡ ከናአን ፡ በኀበ ፡ አቡሁ ፡ ይስሐቅ ፤
Esau saw that the daughters of Canaan didn’t please Isaac, his father.
28:9 ⧉ ⤴︎ וַיֵּ֥לֶךְ עֵשָׂ֖ו אֶל ־יִשְׁמָעֵ֑אל וַיִּקַּ֡ח אֶֽת ־מָחֲלַ֣ת ׀ בַּת ־יִשְׁמָעֵ֨אל בֶּן ־אַבְרָהָ֜ם אֲח֧וֹת נְבָי֛וֹת עַל ־נָשָׁ֖יו ל֥וֹ לְאִשָּֽׁה ׃ {ס}
καὶ ἐπορεύθη Ησαυ πρὸς Ισμαηλ καὶ ἔλαβεν τὴν Μαελεθ θυγατέρα Ισμαηλ τοῦ υἱοῦ Αβρααμ ἀδελφὴν Ναβαιωθ πρὸς ταῖς γυναιξὶν αὐτοῦ γυναῖκα
ivit ad Ismaëlem , et duxit uxorem absque iis , quas prius habebat , Maheleth filiam Ismaël filii Abraham , sororem Nabaioth .
ሖረ ፡ ኀበ ፡ ይስማኤል ፡ ወነሥኣ ፡ ለኤማሌት ፡ ወለተ ፡ ይስማኤል ፡ ወልደ ፡ አብርሃም ፡ እኁሁ ፡ ለናኮር ፡ ከመ ፡ ትኩኖ ፡ ብእሲቶ ፡ ምስለ ፡ አንስቲያሁ ።
So Esau went to Ishmael, and took, in addition to the wives that he had, Mahalath the daughter of Ishmael, Abraham’s son, the sister of Nebaioth, to be his wife.
28:10 ⧉ ⤴︎ וַיֵּצֵ֥א יַעֲקֹ֖ב מִבְּאֵ֣ר שָׁ֑בַע וַיֵּ֖לֶךְ חָרָֽנָה ׃
καὶ ἐξῆλθεν Ιακωβ ἀπὸ τοῦ φρέατος τοῦ ὅρκου καὶ ἐπορεύθη εἰς Χαρραν
Igitur egressus Jacob de Bersabee , pergebat Haran .
ወወፅአ ፡ ያዕቆብ ፡ ኀበ ፡ ዐዘቅተ ፡ መሐላ ፡ ወሖረ ፡ ካራን ።
Jacob went out from Beersheba, and went toward Haran.
28:11 ⧉ ⤴︎ וַיִּפְגַּ֨ע בַּמָּק֜וֹם וַיָּ֤לֶן שָׁם֙ כִּי ־בָ֣א הַשֶּׁ֔מֶשׁ וַיִּקַּח֙ מֵאַבְנֵ֣י הַמָּק֔וֹם וַיָּ֖שֶׂם מְרַֽאֲשֹׁתָ֑יו וַיִּשְׁכַּ֖ב בַּמָּק֥וֹם הַהֽוּא ׃
καὶ ἀπήντησεν τόπῳ καὶ ἐκοιμήθη ἐκεῖ ἔδυ γὰρ ὁ ἥλιος καὶ ἔλαβεν ἀπὸ τῶν λίθων τοῦ τόπου καὶ ἔθηκεν πρὸς κεφαλῆς αὐτοῦ καὶ ἐκοιμήθη ἐν τῷ τόπῳ ἐκείνῳ
Cumque venisset ad quemdam locum , et vellet in eo requiescere post solis occubitum , tulit de lapidibus qui jacebant , et supponens capiti suo , dormivit in eodem loco .
[ወረከበ ፡ መካነ ፡] ወቤተ ፡ ህየ ፡ እስመ ፡ ዐረበት ፡ ፀሓይ ፡ ወነሥአ ፡ እምውእቱ ፡ እብን ፡ ዘውእቱ ፡ ብሔር ፡ ወወደየ ፡ ትርኣሲሁ ፡ ወቤተ ፡ ህየ ።
He came to a certain place, and stayed there all night, because the sun had set. He took one of the stones of the place, and put it under his head, and lay down in that place to sleep.
28:12 ⧉ ⤴︎ וַֽיַּחֲלֹ֗ם וְהִנֵּ֤ה סֻלָּם֙ מֻצָּ֣ב אַ֔רְצָה וְרֹאשׁ֖וֹ מַגִּ֣יעַ הַשָּׁמָ֑יְמָה וְהִנֵּה֙ מַלְאֲכֵ֣י אֱלֹהִ֔ים עֹלִ֥ים וְיֹרְדִ֖ים בּֽוֹ ׃
καὶ ἐνυπνιάσθη καὶ ἰδοὺ κλίμαξ ἐστηριγμένη ἐν τῇ γῇ ἧς ἡ κεφαλὴ ἀφικνεῖτο εἰς τὸν οὐρανόν καὶ οἱ ἄγγελοι τοῦ θεοῦ ἀνέβαινον καὶ κατέβαινον ἐπ’ αὐτῆς
Viditque in somnis scalam stantem super terram , et cacumen illius tangens caelum : angelos quoque Dei ascendentes et descendentes per eam ,
ወሐለመ ፡ ወይሬኢ ፡ ሰዋስወ ፡ (ዘወርቅ ፡) ውስተ ፡ ምድር ፡ ወርእሱ ፡ ያሰምክ ፡ ሰማየ ፡ ወመላእክተ ፡ እግዚአብሔር ፡ የዐርጉ ፡ ወይወርዱ ፡ ቦቱ ።
He dreamed and saw a stairway set upon the earth, and its top reached to heaven. Behold, the angels of God were ascending and descending on it.
28:13 ⧉ ⤴︎ וְהִנֵּ֨ה יְהֹוָ֜ה נִצָּ֣ב עָלָיו֮ וַיֹּאמַר֒ אֲנִ֣י יְהֹוָ֗ה אֱלֹהֵי֙ אַבְרָהָ֣ם אָבִ֔יךָ וֵאלֹהֵ֖י יִצְחָ֑ק הָאָ֗רֶץ אֲשֶׁ֤ר אַתָּה֙ שֹׁכֵ֣ב עָלֶ֔יהָ לְךָ֥ אֶתְּנֶ֖נָּה וּלְזַרְעֶֽךָ ׃
ὁ δὲ κύριος ἐπεστήρικτο ἐπ’ αὐτῆς καὶ εἶπεν ἐγὼ κύριος ὁ θεὸς Αβρααμ τοῦ πατρός σου καὶ ὁ θεὸς Ισαακ μὴ φοβοῦ ἡ γῆ ἐφ’ ἧς σὺ καθεύδεις ἐπ’ αὐτῆς σοὶ δώσω αὐτὴν καὶ τῷ σπέρματί σου
et Dominum innixum scalae dicentem sibi : Ego sum Dominus Deus Abraham patris tui , et Deus Isaac : terram , in qua dormis , tibi dabo et semini tuo .
ወእግዚእ ፡ ያሰምክ ፡ በላዕሌሁ ፡ ወይቤሎ ፡ አነ ፡ ውእቱ ፡ እግዚአብሔር ፡ አምላከ ፡ አብርሃም ፡ ወአምላከ ፡ ይስሐቅ ፡ አቡከ ፡ ኢትፍራህ ፡ ዛቲኒ ፡ ምድር ፡ እንተ ፡ ውስቴታ ፡ ትሰክብ ፡ ለከ ፡ እሁበከ ፡ ወለዘርእከ ።
Behold, Yahweh stood above it, and said, “I am Yahweh, the God of Abraham your father, and the God of Isaac. I will give the land you lie on to you and to your offspring.
28:14 ⧉ ⤴︎ וְהָיָ֤ה זַרְעֲךָ֙ כַּעֲפַ֣ר הָאָ֔רֶץ וּפָרַצְתָּ֛ יָ֥מָּה וָקֵ֖דְמָה וְצָפֹ֣נָה וָנֶ֑גְבָּה וְנִבְרְכ֥וּ בְךָ֛ כׇּל ־מִשְׁפְּחֹ֥ת הָאֲדָמָ֖ה וּבְזַרְעֶֽךָ ׃
καὶ ἔσται τὸ σπέρμα σου ὡς ἡ ἄμμος τῆς γῆς καὶ πλατυνθήσεται ἐπὶ θάλασσαν καὶ ἐπὶ λίβα καὶ ἐπὶ βορρᾶν καὶ ἐπ’ ἀνατολάς καὶ ἐνευλογηθήσονται ἐν σοὶ πᾶσαι αἱ φυλαὶ τῆς γῆς καὶ ἐν τῷ σπέρματί σου
Eritque semen tuum quasi pulvis terrae : dilataberis ad occidentem , et orientem , et septentrionem , et meridiem : et benedicentur in te et in semine tuo cunctae tribus terrae .
ወይከውን ፡ ዘርእከ ፡ ከመ ፡ ኆጻ ፡ ምድር ፡ ወይበዝኅ ፡ ዘርእከ ፡ ወይመልእ ፡ እስከ ፡ ባሕር ፡ ወውስተ ፡ አዜብ ፡ ወመስዕ ፡ ወውስተ ፡ ጽባሕ ፡ ወይትባረክ ፡ በእንቲአከ ፡ ኵሉ ፡ አሕዛበ ፡ ምድር ፡ ወበዘርእከ ።
Your offspring will be as the dust of the earth, and you will spread abroad to the west, and to the east, and to the north, and to the south. In you and in your offspring, all the families of the earth will be blessed.
28:15 ⧉ ⤴︎ וְהִנֵּ֨ה אָנֹכִ֜י עִמָּ֗ךְ וּשְׁמַרְתִּ֙יךָ֙ בְּכֹ֣ל אֲשֶׁר ־תֵּלֵ֔ךְ וַהֲשִׁ֣בֹתִ֔יךָ אֶל ־הָאֲדָמָ֖ה הַזֹּ֑את כִּ֚י לֹ֣א אֶֽעֱזׇבְךָ֔ עַ֚ד אֲשֶׁ֣ר אִם ־עָשִׂ֔יתִי אֵ֥ת אֲשֶׁר ־דִּבַּ֖רְתִּי לָֽךְ ׃
καὶ ἰδοὺ ἐγὼ μετὰ σοῦ διαφυλάσσων σε ἐν τῇ ὁδῷ πάσῃ οὗ ἐὰν πορευθῇς καὶ ἀποστρέψω σε εἰς τὴν γῆν ταύτην ὅτι οὐ μή σε ἐγκαταλίπω ἕως τοῦ ποιῆσαί με πάντα ὅσα ἐλάλησά σοι
Et ero custos tuus quocumque perrexeris , et reducam te in terram hanc : nec dimittam nisi complevero universa quae dixi .
ወአነ ፡ አሐውር ፡ ምስሌከ ፡ ወአዐቅበከ ፡ በኵሉ ፡ ፍኖትከ ፡ እንተ ፡ ተሐውር ፡ ወኣገብአከ ፡ ውስተ ፡ ዝክቱ ፡ ምድር ፡ ወኢየኀድገከ ፡ እስከ ፡ እገብር ፡ ለከ ፡ ኵሎ ፡ ዘእቤለከ ።
Behold, I am with you, and will keep you, wherever you go, and will bring you again into this land. For I will not leave you until I have done that which I have spoken of to you.”
28:16 ⧉ ⤴︎ וַיִּיקַ֣ץ יַעֲקֹב֮ מִשְּׁנָתוֹ֒ וַיֹּ֕אמֶר אָכֵן֙ יֵ֣שׁ יְהֹוָ֔ה בַּמָּק֖וֹם הַזֶּ֑ה וְאָנֹכִ֖י לֹ֥א יָדָֽעְתִּי ׃
καὶ ἐξηγέρθη Ιακωβ ἀπὸ τοῦ ὕπνου αὐτοῦ καὶ εἶπεν ὅτι ἔστιν κύριος ἐν τῷ τόπῳ τούτῳ ἐγὼ δὲ οὐκ ᾔδειν
Cumque evigilasset Jacob de somno , ait : Vere Dominus est in loco isto , et ego nesciebam .
ወነቅሀ ፡ ያዕቆብ ፡ እምንዋሙ ፡ ወይቤ ፡ እግዚአብሔር ፡ ሀሎ ፡ ውስተ ፡ ዛቲ ፡ ምድር ፡ ወአንሰ ፡ ኢያእመርኩ ።
Jacob awakened out of his sleep, and he said, “Surely Yahweh is in this place, and I didn’t know it.”
28:17 ⧉ ⤴︎ וַיִּירָא֙ וַיֹּאמַ֔ר מַה ־נּוֹרָ֖א הַמָּק֣וֹם הַזֶּ֑ה אֵ֣ין זֶ֗ה כִּ֚י אִם ־בֵּ֣ית אֱלֹהִ֔ים וְזֶ֖ה שַׁ֥עַר הַשָּׁמָֽיִם ׃
καὶ ἐφοβήθη καὶ εἶπεν ὡς φοβερὸς ὁ τόπος οὗτος οὐκ ἔστιν τοῦτο ἀλλ’ ἢ οἶκος θεοῦ καὶ αὕτη ἡ πύλη τοῦ οὐρανοῦ
Pavensque , Quam terribilis est , inquit , locus iste ! non est hic aliud nisi domus Dei , et porta caeli .
ወፈርሀ ፡ ወይቤ ፡ ግሩም ፡ ውእቱ ፡ ዝንቱ ፡ ምድር ፡ ወይከውን ፡ ዝየ ፡ ቤተ ፡ እግዚአብሔር ፡ ወዛቲ ፡ ኆኅታ ፡ ይእቲ ፡ ለሰማይ ።
He was afraid, and said, “How awesome this place is! This is none other than God’s house, and this is the gate of heaven.”
28:18 ⧉ ⤴︎ וַיַּשְׁכֵּ֨ם יַעֲקֹ֜ב בַּבֹּ֗קֶר וַיִּקַּ֤ח אֶת ־הָאֶ֙בֶן֙ אֲשֶׁר ־שָׂ֣ם מְרַֽאֲשֹׁתָ֔יו וַיָּ֥שֶׂם אֹתָ֖הּ מַצֵּבָ֑ה וַיִּצֹ֥ק שֶׁ֖מֶן עַל ־רֹאשָֽׁהּ ׃
καὶ ἀνέστη Ιακωβ τὸ πρωὶ καὶ ἔλαβεν τὸν λίθον ὃν ὑπέθηκεν ἐκεῖ πρὸς κεφαλῆς αὐτοῦ καὶ ἔστησεν αὐτὸν στήλην καὶ ἐπέχεεν ἔλαιον ἐπὶ τὸ ἄκρον αὐτῆς
Surgens ergo Jacob mane , tulit lapidem quem supposuerat capiti suo , et erexit in titulum , fundens oleum desuper .
ወተንሥአ ፡ ያዕቆብ ፡ በጽባሕ ፡ ወነሥኣ ፡ ለይእቲ ፡ እብን ፡ እንተ ፡ ወደያ ፡ ትርኣሲሁ ፡ ወአቀማ ፡ ከመ ፡ ሐውልት ፡ ወሶጠ ፡ ቅብአ ፡ ላዕለ ፡ ርእሳ ።
Jacob rose up early in the morning, and took the stone that he had put under his head, and set it up for a pillar, and poured oil on its top.
28:19 ⧉ ⤴︎ וַיִּקְרָ֛א אֶת ־שֵֽׁם ־הַמָּק֥וֹם הַה֖וּא בֵּֽית ־אֵ֑ל וְאוּלָ֛ם ל֥וּז שֵׁם ־הָעִ֖יר לָרִאשֹׁנָֽה ׃
καὶ ἐκάλεσεν Ιακωβ τὸ ὄνομα τοῦ τόπου ἐκείνου Οἶκος θεοῦ καὶ Ουλαμλους ἦν ὄνομα τῇ πόλει τὸ πρότερον
Appellavitque nomen urbis Bethel , quae prius Luza vocabatur .
ወሰመየ ፡ ስሞ ፡ ለውእቱ ፡ መካን ፡ ቤተ ፡ እግዚአብሔር ፡ ወስሙሰ ፡ ለውእቱ ፡ ብሔር ፡ ትካቲሁ ፡ ውለምሕሳ ።
He called the name of that place Bethel, but the name of the city was Luz at the first.
28:20 ⧉ ⤴︎ וַיִּדַּ֥ר יַעֲקֹ֖ב נֶ֣דֶר לֵאמֹ֑ר אִם ־יִהְיֶ֨ה אֱלֹהִ֜ים עִמָּדִ֗י וּשְׁמָרַ֙נִי֙ בַּדֶּ֤רֶךְ הַזֶּה֙ אֲשֶׁ֣ר אָנֹכִ֣י הוֹלֵ֔ךְ וְנָֽתַן ־לִ֥י לֶ֛חֶם לֶאֱכֹ֖ל וּבֶ֥גֶד לִלְבֹּֽשׁ ׃
καὶ ηὔξατο Ιακωβ εὐχὴν λέγων ἐὰν ᾖ κύριος ὁ θεὸς μετ’ ἐμοῦ καὶ διαφυλάξῃ με ἐν τῇ ὁδῷ ταύτῃ ᾗ ἐγὼ πορεύομαι καὶ δῷ μοι ἄρτον φαγεῖν καὶ ἱμάτιον περιβαλέσθαι
Vovit etiam votum , dicens : Si fuerit Deus mecum , et custodierit me in via , per quam ego ambulo , et dederit mihi panem ad vescendum , et vestimentum ad induendum ,
ወበፅአ ፡ ያዕቆብ ፡ ወይቤ ፡ ለእመ ፡ ሀሎ ፡ እግዚእ ፡ እግዚአብሔር ፡ ምስሌየ ፡ ወዐቀበኒ ፡ በዛቲ ፡ ፍኖት ፡ እንተ ፡ አሐውር ፡ ወወሀበኒ ፡ እክለ ፡ ዘእሴሰይ ፡ ወልብሰ ፡ ዘእለብስ ፤
Jacob vowed a vow, saying, “If God will be with me, and will keep me in this way that I go, and will give me bread to eat, and clothing to put on,
28:21 ⧉ ⤴︎ וְשַׁבְתִּ֥י בְשָׁל֖וֹם אֶל ־בֵּ֣ית אָבִ֑י וְהָיָ֧ה יְהֹוָ֛ה לִ֖י לֵאלֹהִֽים ׃
καὶ ἀποστρέψῃ με μετὰ σωτηρίας εἰς τὸν οἶκον τοῦ πατρός μου καὶ ἔσται μοι κύριος εἰς θεόν
reversusque fuero prospere ad domum patris mei : erit mihi Dominus in Deum ,
ወአግብአኒ ፡ በዳኅን ፡ ቤተ ፡ አቡየ ፡ ወይከውነኒ ፡ እግዚአብሔር ፡ አምላኪየ ።
so that I come again to my father’s house in peace, and Yahweh will be my God,
28:22 ⧉ ⤴︎ וְהָאֶ֣בֶן הַזֹּ֗את אֲשֶׁר ־שַׂ֙מְתִּי֙ מַצֵּבָ֔ה יִהְיֶ֖ה בֵּ֣ית אֱלֹהִ֑ים וְכֹל֙ אֲשֶׁ֣ר תִּתֶּן ־לִ֔י עַשֵּׂ֖ר אֲעַשְּׂרֶ֥נּוּ לָֽךְ ׃
καὶ ὁ λίθος οὗτος ὃν ἔστησα στήλην ἔσται μοι οἶκος θεοῦ καὶ πάντων ὧν ἐάν μοι δῷς δεκάτην ἀποδεκατώσω αὐτά σοι
et lapis iste , quem erexi in titulum , vocabitur Domus Dei : cunctorumque quae dederis mihi , decimas offeram tibi .
ወዛቲ ፡ እብን ፡ እንተ ፡ አቀምኩ ፡ ትከውነኒ ፡ ቤተ ፡ እግዚአብሔር ፡ ወኵሎ ፡ ዘወሀበኒ ፡ ዓሥራተ ፡ እዴሁ ፡ እዔሥሮ ፡ ለከ ።
then this stone, which I have set up for a pillar, will be God’s house. Of all that you will give me I will surely give a tenth to you.”
