4:1 ⧉ ⤴︎ Ἀγαπητοί , μὴ παντὶ πνεύματι πιστεύετε , ἀλλὰ δοκιμάζετε τὰ πνεύματα εἰ ἐκ τοῦ θεοῦ ἐστιν , ὅτι πολλοὶ ψευδοπροφῆται ἐξεληλύθασιν εἰς τὸν κόσμον .
Carissimi , nolite omni spiritui credere , sed probate spiritus si ex Deo sint : quoniam multi pseudoprophetae exierunt in mundum .
አኀዊነ ለኵላ መንፈስ ኢትእመንዋ አላ አመክርዋ ለመንፈስ ለእመ እምኀበ እግዚአብሔር ይእቲ እስመ ብዙኃን ሐሳውያን ነቢያት መጽኡ ውስተ ዓለም እለ ኢየአምርዎ ለኢየሱስ ክርስቶስ ።
Beloved, don’t believe every spirit, but test the spirits, whether they are of God, because many false prophets have gone out into the world.
4:2 ⧉ ⤴︎ ἐν τούτῳ γινώσκετε τὸ πνεῦμα τοῦ θεοῦ · πᾶν πνεῦμα ὃ ὁμολογεῖ Ἰησοῦν Χριστὸν ἐν σαρκὶ ἐληλυθότα ἐκ τοῦ θεοῦ ἐστιν ,
In hoc cognoscitur Spiritus Dei : omnis spiritus qui confitetur Jesum Christum in carne venisse , ex Deo est :
ወበዝንቱ ተአምርዋ ለመንፈሰ እግዚአብሔር ወለመፈሰ ሐሰት ኵላ መንፈስ እንተ ተአምን ከመ ኢየሱስ ክርስቶስ መጽአ በሥጋ ሰብእ እምነ እግዚአብሔር ይእቲ ።
By this you know the Spirit of God: every spirit who confesses that Jesus Christ has come in the flesh is of God,
4:3 ⧉ ⤴︎ καὶ πᾶν πνεῦμα ὃ μὴ ὁμολογεῖ τὸν Ἰησοῦν ἐκ τοῦ θεοῦ οὐκ ἔστιν · καὶ τοῦτό ἐστιν τὸ τοῦ ἀντιχρίστου , ὃ ἀκηκόατε ὅτι ἔρχεται , καὶ νῦν ἐν τῷ κόσμῳ ἐστὶν ἤδη .
et omnis spiritus qui solvit Jesum , ex Deo non est , et hic est antichristus , de quo audistis quoniam venit , et nunc jam in mundo est .
ወኵላ መንፈስ እንተ ኢተአምን በኢየሱስ ክርስቶስ ከመ መጽአ በሥጋ ሰብእ ኢኮነት እምነ እግዚአብሔር ወዝንቱ ውእቱ ሐሳዌ መሲሕ ዘሰማዕክሙ ከመ ይመጽእ ወይእዜኒ ወድአ መጽአ ወውስተ ዓለም ሀሎ ።
and every spirit who doesn’t confess that Jesus Christ has come in the flesh is not of God; and this is the spirit of the Antichrist, of whom you have heard that it comes. Now it is in the world already.
4:4 ⧉ ⤴︎ Ὑμεῖς ἐκ τοῦ θεοῦ ἐστε , τεκνία , καὶ νενικήκατε αὐτούς , ὅτι μείζων ἐστὶν ὁ ἐν ὑμῖν ἢ ὁ ἐν τῷ κόσμῳ .
Vos ex Deo estis filioli , et vicistis eum , quoniam major est qui in vobis est , quam qui in mundo .
ወአንትሙሰ እምነ እግዚአብሔር አንትሙ ደቂቅየ ወሞእክምዎ ለእኩይ እስመ የዐቢ ዘሀሎ ምስሌክሙ እምነ ዘውስተ ዓለም ሀሎ ።
You are of God, little children, and have overcome them, because greater is he who is in you than he who is in the world.
4:5 ⧉ ⤴︎ αὐτοὶ ἐκ τοῦ κόσμου εἰσίν · διὰ τοῦτο ἐκ τοῦ κόσμου λαλοῦσιν καὶ ὁ κόσμος αὐτῶν ἀκούει .
Ipsi de mundo sunt : ideo de mundo loquuntur , et mundus eos audit .
ወእሙንቱሰ እምነ ዓለም እሙንቱ ወበእንተ ዝንቱ እምነ ዓለም ይነብቡ ወዓለምኒ ይሰምዖሙ ።
They are of the world. Therefore they speak of the world, and the world hears them.
4:6 ⧉ ⤴︎ ἡμεῖς ἐκ τοῦ θεοῦ ἐσμεν · ὁ γινώσκων τὸν θεὸν ἀκούει ἡμῶν , ὃς οὐκ ἔστιν ἐκ τοῦ θεοῦ οὐκ ἀκούει ἡμῶν . ἐκ τούτου γινώσκομεν τὸ πνεῦμα τῆς ἀληθείας καὶ τὸ πνεῦμα τῆς πλάνης .
Nos ex Deo sumus . Qui novit Deum , audit nos ; qui non est ex Deo , non audit nos : in hoc cognoscimus Spiritum veritatis , et spiritum erroris .
ወንሕነሰ እምነ እግዚአብሔር ንሕነ ወዘየአምሮ ለእግዚአብሔር ይሰምዐነ ወዘኢኮነ እምእግዚአብሔር ኢይሰምዐነ ወበዝንቱ ነአምራ ለመንፈሰ ጽድቅ ወለመንፈሰ ሐሰት ።
We are of God. He who knows God listens to us. He who is not of God doesn’t listen to us. By this we know the spirit of truth, and the spirit of error.
4:7 ⧉ ⤴︎ Ἀγαπητοί , ἀγαπῶμεν ἀλλήλους , ὅτι ἡ ἀγάπη ἐκ τοῦ θεοῦ ἐστιν , καὶ πᾶς ὁ ἀγαπῶν ἐκ τοῦ θεοῦ γεγέννηται καὶ γινώσκει τὸν θεόν .
Carissimi , diligamus nos invicem : quia caritas ex Deo est . Et omnis qui diligit , ex Deo natus est , et cognoscit Deum .
አኀዊነ ለንትፋቀር በበይናቲነ እስመ ተፋቅሮ እምነ እግዚአብሔር ውእቱ ወኵሉ ዘይትፋቀር እምነ እግዚአብሔር ውእቱ ተወልደ ወየአምሮ ለእግዚአብሔር ።
Beloved, let’s love one another, for love is of God; and everyone who loves has been born of God and knows God.
4:8 ⧉ ⤴︎ ὁ μὴ ἀγαπῶν οὐκ ἔγνω τὸν θεόν , ὅτι ὁ θεὸς ἀγάπη ἐστίν .
Qui non diligit , non novit Deum : quoniam Deus caritas est .
ወዘሰ ኢያፈቅር ቢጾ ኢየአምሮ ለእግዚአብሔር እስመ እግዚአብሔር ፍቅር ውእቱ ።
He who doesn’t love doesn’t know God, for God is love.
4:9 ⧉ ⤴︎ ἐν τούτῳ ἐφανερώθη ἡ ἀγάπη τοῦ θεοῦ ἐν ἡμῖν , ὅτι τὸν υἱὸν αὐτοῦ τὸν μονογενῆ ἀπέσταλκεν ὁ θεὸς εἰς τὸν κόσμον ἵνα ζήσωμεν δι’ αὐτοῦ .
In hoc apparuit caritas Dei in nobis , quoniam Filium suum unigenitum misit Deus in mundum , ut vivamus per eum .
ወበዝንቱ ተዐውቀ ፍቅሩ ለእግዚአብሔር ላዕሌነ እስመ ለወልዱ ዋሕድ ፈነዎ ውስተ ዓለም ከመ ንሕዮ በእንቲኣሁ ።
By this God’s love was revealed in us, that God has sent his only born Son into the world that we might live through him.
4:10 ⧉ ⤴︎ ἐν τούτῳ ἐστὶν ἡ ἀγάπη , οὐχ ὅτι ἡμεῖς ἠγαπήσαμεν τὸν θεόν , ἀλλ’ ὅτι αὐτὸς ἠγάπησεν ἡμᾶς καὶ ἀπέστειλεν τὸν υἱὸν αὐτοῦ ἱλασμὸν περὶ τῶν ἁμαρτιῶν ἡμῶν .
In hoc est caritas : non quasi nos dilexerimus Deum , sed quoniam ipse prior dilexit nos , et misit Filium suum propitiationem pro peccatis nostris .
ወዝንቱ ውእቱ ፍቅሩ ለእግዚአብሔር ወአኮ ንሕነ ዘአፍቀርናሁ አላ ውእቱ አፍቀረነ ወፈነዎ ለወልዱ ይኅድግ ለነ ኀጣውኢነ ።
In this is love, not that we loved God, but that he loved us, and sent his Son as the atoning sacrifice for our sins.
4:11 ⧉ ⤴︎ Ἀγαπητοί , εἰ οὕτως ὁ θεὸς ἠγάπησεν ἡμᾶς , καὶ ἡμεῖς ὀφείλομεν ἀλλήλους ἀγαπᾶν .
Carissimi , si sic Deus dilexit nos : et nos debemus alterutrum diligere .
አኀዊነ እመሰ ከመዝ አፍቀረነ እግዚአብሔር ንሕነኒ ይደልወነ ንትፋቀር በበይናቲነ ።
Beloved, if God loved us in this way, we also ought to love one another.
4:12 ⧉ ⤴︎ θεὸν οὐδεὶς πώποτε τεθέαται · ἐὰν ἀγαπῶμεν ἀλλήλους , ὁ θεὸς ἐν ἡμῖν μένει καὶ ἡ ἀγάπη αὐτοῦ τετελειωμένη ἐν ἡμῖν ἐστιν .
Deum nemo vidit umquam . Si diligamus invicem , Deus in nobis manet , et caritas ejus in nobis perfecta est .
ለእግዚአብሔርሰ አልቦ ዘርእዮ ግሙራ ወእመሰ ተፋቀርነ በበይናቲነ እግዚአብሔር ይነብር ምስሌነ ወፍቅሩሂ ፍጹም ሀሎ ምስሌነ ።
No one has seen God at any time. If we love one another, God remains in us, and his love has been perfected in us.
4:13 ⧉ ⤴︎ ἐν τούτῳ γινώσκομεν ὅτι ἐν αὐτῷ μένομεν καὶ αὐτὸς ἐν ἡμῖν , ὅτι ἐκ τοῦ πνεύματος αὐτοῦ δέδωκεν ἡμῖν .
In hoc cognoscimus quoniam in eo manemus , et ipse in nobis : quoniam de Spiritu suo dedit nobis .
ወበዝንቱ ነአምር ከመ ምስሌሁ ንነብር ወውእቱኒ ምስሌነ እምነ መንፈሱ ቅዱስ ዘወሀበነ ።
By this we know that we remain in him and he in us, because he has given us of his Spirit.
4:14 ⧉ ⤴︎ καὶ ἡμεῖς τεθεάμεθα καὶ μαρτυροῦμεν ὅτι ὁ πατὴρ ἀπέσταλκεν τὸν υἱὸν σωτῆρα τοῦ κόσμου .
Et nos vidimus , et testificamur quoniam Pater misit Filium suum Salvatorem mundi .
ወንሕነኒ ርኢነ ወሰማዕነ ፥ ከመ አብ ፈነወ ወልዶ መድኅነ ዓለም ።
We have seen and testify that the Father has sent the Son as the Savior of the world.
4:15 ⧉ ⤴︎ ὃς ἂν ὁμολογήσῃ ὅτι Ἰησοῦς ἐστιν ὁ υἱὸς τοῦ θεοῦ , ὁ θεὸς ἐν αὐτῷ μένει καὶ αὐτὸς ἐν τῷ θεῷ .
Quisquis confessus fuerit quoniam Jesus est Filius Dei , Deus in eo manet , et ipse in Deo .
ወኵሉ ዘየአምን ከመ ኢየሱስ ውእቱ ወልደ እግዚአብሔር እግዚአብሔር ይነብር ምስሌሁ ወውእቱኒ ምስለ እግዚአብሔር ።
Whoever confesses that Jesus is the Son of God, God remains in him, and he in God.
4:16 ⧉ ⤴︎ καὶ ἡμεῖς ἐγνώκαμεν καὶ πεπιστεύκαμεν τὴν ἀγάπην ἣν ἔχει ὁ θεὸς ἐν ἡμῖν . ὁ θεὸς ἀγάπη ἐστίν , καὶ ὁ μένων ἐν τῇ ἀγάπῃ ἐν τῷ θεῷ μένει καὶ ὁ θεὸς ἐν αὐτῷ μένει .
Et nos cognovimus , et credidimus caritati , quam habet Deus in nobis . Deus caritas est : et qui manet in caritate , in Deo manet , et Deus in eo .
ወንሕነሰ አእመርነ ወአመነ እንተ ቦ ፍቅረ እግዚአብሔር ምስሌነ እግዚአብሔርሰ ፍቅር ውእቱ ወዘኒ ነበረ በተፋቅሮ ምስለ እግዚአብሔር ይነብር ወእግዚአብሔርኒ ምስሌሁ ።
We know and have believed the love which God has for us. God is love, and he who remains in love remains in God, and God remains in him.
4:17 ⧉ ⤴︎ Ἐν τούτῳ τετελείωται ἡ ἀγάπη μεθ’ ἡμῶν , ἵνα παρρησίαν ἔχωμεν ἐν τῇ ἡμέρᾳ τῆς κρίσεως , ὅτι καθὼς ἐκεῖνός ἐστιν καὶ ἡμεῖς ἐσμεν ἐν τῷ κόσμῳ τούτῳ .
In hoc perfecta est caritas Dei nobiscum , ut fiduciam habeamus in die judicii : quia sicut ille est , et nos sumus in hoc mundo .
ወበዝንቱ ትትፌጸም ፍቅሩ ለእግዚአብሔር ምስሌነ ከመ ንርከብ ገጸ በዕለተ ደይን በኀቤሁ እስመ በከመ ኮነ ውእቱ ኮነ ንሕነኒ ውስተ ዝንቱ ዓለም ።
In this, love has been made perfect among us, that we may have boldness in the day of judgment, because as he is, even so we are in this world.
4:18 ⧉ ⤴︎ φόβος οὐκ ἔστιν ἐν τῇ ἀγάπῃ , ἀλλ’ ἡ τελεία ἀγάπη ἔξω βάλλει τὸν φόβον , ὅτι ὁ φόβος κόλασιν ἔχει , ὁ δὲ φοβούμενος οὐ τετελείωται ἐν τῇ ἀγάπῃ .
Timor non est in caritate : sed perfecta caritas foras mittit timorem , quoniam timor poenam habet : qui autem timet , non est perfectus in caritate .
ወአልቦ ፍርሀት ውስተ ተፋቅሮትነ አላ ተፋቅሮሰ ፍጽምት አፍኣ ታወፅኣ ለፍርሀት እስመ ፍርሀትሰ መቅሠፍት ባቲ ወዘሰ ይፈርህ ኢኮነ ፍጹመ በተፋቅሮ ።
There is no fear in love; but perfect love casts out fear, because fear has punishment. He who fears is not made perfect in love.
4:19 ⧉ ⤴︎ ἡμεῖς ἀγαπῶμεν , ὅτι αὐτὸς πρῶτος ἠγάπησεν ἡμᾶς .
Nos ergo diligamus Deum , quoniam Deus prior dilexit nos .
ወንሕነኒ ንትፋቀር በበይናቲነ ወናፍቅሮ ለእግዚአብሔር እስመ ውእቱ ቀደመ አፍቅሮተነ ።
We love him, because he first loved us.
4:20 ⧉ ⤴︎ ἐάν τις εἴπῃ ὅτι ἀγαπῶ τὸν θεόν , καὶ τὸν ἀδελφὸν αὐτοῦ μισῇ , Ψεύστης ἐστίν · ὁ γὰρ μὴ ἀγαπῶν τὸν ἀδελφὸν αὐτοῦ ὃν ἑώρακεν , τὸν θεὸν ὃν οὐχ ἑώρακεν οὐ δύναται ἀγαπᾶν .
Si quis dixerit : Quoniam diligo Deum , et fratrem suum oderit , mendax est . Qui enim non diligit fratrem suum quem vidit , Deum , quem non vidit , quomodo potest diligere ?
ወእመሰ ቦ ዘይብል አፈቅሮ ለእግዚአብሔር ወይጸልእ ቢጾ ሐሳዊ ውእቱ እስመ ዘያፈቅሮ ለቢጹ ዘይሬኢ ለእግዚአብሔርኒ ያፈቅሮ ዘኢይሬኢ ወዘሰ ኢያፈቅር ቢጾ ዘይሬኢ እፎ እንከ ይክል አፍቅሮቶ ለእግዚአብሔር ዘኢይሬኢ ።
If a man says, “I love God,” and hates his brother, he is a liar; for he who doesn’t love his brother whom he has seen, how can he love God whom he has not seen?
4:21 ⧉ ⤴︎ καὶ ταύτην τὴν ἐντολὴν ἔχομεν ἀπ’ αὐτοῦ , ἵνα ὁ ἀγαπῶν τὸν θεὸν ἀγαπᾷ καὶ τὸν ἀδελφὸν αὐτοῦ .
Et hoc mandatum habemus a Deo : ut qui diligit Deum , diligat et fratrem suum .
ወዝንቱ ትእዛዝ እንተ ብነ እምኔሁ ከመ ናፍቅሮ ለእግዚአብሔር ወናፍቅር ቢጸነ ወኵሉ ዘያፈቅሮ ለእግዚአብሔር ያፈቅር ቢጾ ።
This commandment we have from him, that he who loves God should also love his brother.
