1:1 ⧉ ⤴︎ καὶ ἤγαγεν Ιωσιας τὸ πασχα ἐν Ιερουσαλημ τῷ κυρίῳ αὐτοῦ καὶ ἔθυσεν τὸ πασχα τῇ τεσσαρεσκαιδεκάτῃ ἡμέρᾳ τοῦ μηνὸς τοῦ πρώτου
Et fecit Josias Pascha in Jerosolymis Domino , et immolavit Phase quarta decima luna primi mensis ,
Josias held the passover in Jerusalem to his Lord, and offered the passover the fourteenth day of the first month;
1:2 ⧉ ⤴︎ στήσας τοὺς ἱερεῖς κατ’ ἐφημερίας ἐστολισμένους ἐν τῷ ἱερῷ τοῦ κυρίου
statuens sacerdotes per vices dierum stolis amictos in templo Domini .
having set the priests according to their daily courses, being arrayed in their vestments, in the temple of the Lord.
1:3 ⧉ ⤴︎ καὶ εἶπεν τοῖς Λευίταις ἱεροδούλοις τοῦ Ισραηλ ἁγιάσαι ἑαυτοὺς τῷ κυρίῳ ἐν τῇ θέσει τῆς ἁγίας κιβωτοῦ τοῦ κυρίου ἐν τῷ οἴκῳ ᾧ ᾠκοδόμησεν Σαλωμων ὁ τοῦ Δαυιδ ὁ βασιλεύς οὐκ ἔσται ὑμῖν ἆραι ἐπ’ ὤμων αὐτήν
Et dixit Levitis sacris servis Israël , ut sanctificarent se Domino in positione sanctæ arcæ Domini , in domo , quam ædificavit Salomon filius David rex .
And he spoke to the Levites, the temple-servants of Israel, that they should hallow themselves to the Lord, to set the holy ark of the Lord in the house that King Solomon the son of David had built:
1:4 ⧉ ⤴︎ καὶ νῦν λατρεύετε τῷ κυρίῳ θεῷ ὑμῶν καὶ θεραπεύετε τὸ ἔθνος αὐτοῦ Ισραηλ καὶ ἑτοιμάσατε κατὰ τὰς πατριὰς καὶ τὰς φυλὰς ὑμῶν κατὰ τὴν γραφὴν Δαυιδ βασιλέως Ισραηλ καὶ κατὰ τὴν μεγαλειότητα Σαλωμων τοῦ υἱοῦ αὐτοῦ
Non erit vobis tollere super humeros eam . Et nunc deservite Domino vestro , et curam agite gentis illius Israël ex parte secundum pagos et tribus vestras ,
and said, You⌃ shall no more have need to bear it upon your shoulders: now therefore serve the Lord your God, and minister to his people Israel, and prepare you after your fathers’ houses and kindred,
1:5 ⧉ ⤴︎ καὶ στάντες ἐν τῷ ἱερῷ κατὰ τὴν μεριδαρχίαν τὴν πατρικὴν ὑμῶν τῶν Λευιτῶν τῶν ἔμπροσθεν τῶν ἀδελφῶν ὑμῶν υἱῶν Ισραηλ ἐν τάξει
secundum scripturam David regis Israël , et secundum magnificentiam Salomonis filii ejus , omnes in templo , et secundum particulam principatus paternam vestram eorum , qui stant in conspectu fratrum filiorum Israël .
according to the writing of David king of Israel, and according to the magnificence of Solomon his son: and standing in the holy place according to the several divisions of the families of you the Levites, who minister in the presence of your kindred the children of Israel,
1:6 ⧉ ⤴︎ θύσατε τὸ πασχα καὶ τὰς θυσίας ἑτοιμάσατε τοῖς ἀδελφοῖς ὑμῶν καὶ ποιήσατε τὸ πασχα κατὰ τὸ πρόσταγμα τοῦ κυρίου τὸ δοθὲν τῷ Μωυσῇ
Immolate Pascha , et sacrificia parate fratribus vestris , et facite secundum præceptum Domini quod datum est Moysi .
offer the passover in order, and make ready the sacrifices for your kindred, and keep the passover according to the commandment of the Lord, which was given to Moses.
1:7 ⧉ ⤴︎ καὶ ἐδωρήσατο Ιωσιας τῷ λαῷ τῷ εὑρεθέντι ἀρνῶν καὶ ἐρίφων τριάκοντα χιλιάδας μόσχους τρισχιλίους ταῦτα ἐκ τῶν βασιλικῶν ἐδόθη κατ’ ἐπαγγελίαν τῷ λαῷ καὶ τοῖς ἱερεῦσιν καὶ Λευίταις
Et donavit Josias in plebem , quæ inventa est , ovium , agnorum , et hœdorum , et caprarum triginta millia , vitulos tria millia .
And to the people which were present Josias gave thirty thousand lambs and kids, and three thousand calves: these things were given of the king’s substance, according as he promised, to the people, and to the priests and Levites.
1:8 ⧉ ⤴︎ καὶ ἔδωκεν Χελκιας καὶ Ζαχαριας καὶ Ησυηλος οἱ ἐπιστάται τοῦ ἱεροῦ τοῖς ἱερεῦσιν εἰς πασχα πρόβατα δισχίλια ἑξακόσια μόσχους τριακοσίους
Hæc de regalibus data sunt secundum promissionem populo : et sacerdotibus in Pascha , oves numero duo millia , ac vituli centum .
And Helkias, and Zacharias, and Esyelus, the rulers of the temple, gave to the priests for the passover two thousand and six hundred sheep, and three hundred calves.
1:9 ⧉ ⤴︎ καὶ Ιεχονιας καὶ Σαμαιας καὶ Ναθαναηλ ὁ ἀδελφὸς καὶ Ασαβιας καὶ Οχιηλος καὶ Ιωραμ χιλίαρχοι ἔδωκαν τοῖς Λευίταις εἰς πασχα πρόβατα πεντακισχίλια μόσχους ἑπτακοσίους
Et Jechonias , et Semejas , et Nathanaël fratres , et Hasabias , et Oziel , et Coraba in Phase , oves quinque millia , vitulos quingentos .
And Jeconias, and Samaias and Nathanael his brother, and Sabias, and Ochielus, and Joram, captains over thousands, gave to the Levites for the passover five thousand sheep, and seven hundred calves.
1:10 ⧉ ⤴︎ καὶ ταῦτα τὰ γενόμενα εὐπρεπῶς ἔστησαν οἱ ἱερεῖς καὶ οἱ Λευῖται
Et hæc cum fierent eleganter , steterunt sacerdotes et Levitæ habentes azyma per tribus .
And when these things were done, the priests and Levites, having the unleavened bread, stood in comely order according to the kindred,
1:11 ⧉ ⤴︎ ἔχοντες τὰ ἄζυμα κατὰ τὰς φυλὰς
Et secundum partes principatus patrum in conspectu populi offerebant Domino , secundum ea quæ in libro Moysi scripta sunt :
and according to the several divisions by fathers’ houses, before the people, to offer to the Lord, as it is written in the book of Moses: and thus did they in the morning.
1:12 ⧉ ⤴︎ καὶ κατὰ τὰς μεριδαρχίας τῶν πατέρων ἔμπροσθεν τοῦ λαοῦ προσενεγκεῖν τῷ κυρίῳ κατὰ τὰ γεγραμμένα ἐν βιβλίῳ Μωυσῆ καὶ οὕτω τὸ πρωινόν
et assaverunt Phase igni prout oportebat : et hostias coxerunt in emolis , et in ollis cum benevolentia :
And they roasted the passover with fire, as appertains: and the sacrifices they sod in the brazen vessels and caldrons with a good savor,
1:13 ⧉ ⤴︎ καὶ ὤπτησαν τὸ πασχα πυρὶ ὡς καθήκει καὶ τὰς θυσίας ἥψησαν ἐν τοῖς χαλκείοις καὶ λέβησιν μετ’ εὐωδίας καὶ ἀπήνεγκαν πᾶσι τοῖς ἐκ τοῦ λαοῦ
et attulerunt omnibus qui erant ex plebe : et post hæc paraverunt sibi et sacerdotibus .
and set them before all the people: and afterward they prepared for themselves, and for the priests their kindred, the sons of Aaron.
1:14 ⧉ ⤴︎ μετὰ δὲ ταῦτα ἡτοίμασαν ἑαυτοῖς τε καὶ τοῖς ἱερεῦσιν ἀδελφοῖς αὐτῶν υἱοῖς Ααρων οἱ γὰρ ἱερεῖς ἀνέφερον τὰ στέατα ἕως ἀωρίας καὶ οἱ Λευῖται ἡτοίμασαν ἑαυτοῖς καὶ τοῖς ἱερεῦσιν ἀδελφοῖς αὐτῶν υἱοῖς Ααρων
Sacerdotes enim offerebant adipes , usque dum finita esset hora : et Levitæ paraverunt sibi et fratribus suis , filiis Aaron .
For the priests offered the fat until night: and the Levites prepared for themselves, and for the priests their kindred, the sons of Aaron.
1:15 ⧉ ⤴︎ καὶ οἱ ἱεροψάλται υἱοὶ Ασαφ ἦσαν ἐπὶ τῆς τάξεως αὐτῶν κατὰ τὰ ὑπὸ Δαυιδ τεταγμένα καὶ Ασαφ καὶ Ζαχαριας καὶ Εδδινους οἱ παρὰ τοῦ βασιλέως καὶ οἱ θυρωροὶ ἐφ’ ἑκάστου πυλῶνος οὐκ ἔστιν παραβῆναι ἕκαστον τὴν ἑαυτοῦ ἐφημερίαν οἱ γὰρ ἀδελφοὶ αὐτῶν οἱ Λευῖται ἡτοίμασαν αὐτοῖς
Et sacri cantores filii Asaph erant per ordinem secundum præceptum David , et Asaph , et Zacharias , et Jeddimus , qui erat a rege .
The holy singers also, the sons of Asaph, were in their order, according to the appointment of David, to wit, Asaph, Zacharias, and Eddinus, who was of the king’s retinue.
1:16 ⧉ ⤴︎ καὶ συνετελέσθη τὰ τῆς θυσίας τοῦ κυρίου ἐν ἐκείνῃ τῇ ἡμέρᾳ ἀχθῆναι τὸ πασχα καὶ προσενεχθῆναι τὰς θυσίας ἐπὶ τὸ τοῦ κυρίου θυσιαστήριον κατὰ τὴν ἐπιταγὴν τοῦ βασιλέως Ιωσιου
Et ostiarii per singulas januas , ita ut non prævaricaretur unusquisque suam : fratres enim illorum paraverunt illis .
Moreover the gatekeepers were at every gate; none had need to depart from his daily course: for their kindred the Levites prepared for them.
1:17 ⧉ ⤴︎ καὶ ἠγάγοσαν οἱ υἱοὶ Ισραηλ οἱ εὑρεθέντες ἐν τῷ καιρῷ τούτῳ τὸ πασχα καὶ τὴν ἑορτὴν τῶν ἀζύμων ἡμέρας ἑπτά
Et consummata sunt quæ pertinebant ad sacrificium Domini .
Thus were the things that belonged to the sacrifices of the Lord accomplished in that day, in holding the passover,
1:18 ⧉ ⤴︎ καὶ οὐκ ἤχθη τὸ πασχα τοιοῦτο ἐν τῷ Ισραηλ ἀπὸ τῶν χρόνων Σαμουηλ τοῦ προφήτου
In illa die egerunt Phase , et offerebant hostias super Domini sacrificium , secundum præceptum regis Josiæ .
and offering sacrifices upon the altar of the Lord, according to the commandment of King Josias.
1:19 ⧉ ⤴︎ καὶ πάντες οἱ βασιλεῖς τοῦ Ισραηλ οὐκ ἠγάγοσαν πασχα τοιοῦτον οἷον ἤγαγεν Ιωσιας καὶ οἱ ἱερεῖς καὶ οἱ Λευῖται καὶ οἱ Ιουδαῖοι καὶ πᾶς Ισραηλ οἱ εὑρεθέντες ἐν τῇ κατοικήσει αὐτῶν ἐν Ιερουσαλημ
Et egerunt filii Israël , qui inventi sunt in tempore illo , Phase : et diem festum azymorum per dies septem :
So the children of Israel which were present at that time held the passover, and the feast of unleavened bread seven days.
1:20 ⧉ ⤴︎ ὀκτωκαιδεκάτῳ ἔτει βασιλεύοντος Ιωσιου ἤχθη τὸ πασχα τοῦτο
et non est celebratum Phase tale in Israël , a temporibus Samuelis prophetæ :
And such a passover was not held in Israel since the time of the prophet Samuel.
1:21 ⧉ ⤴︎ καὶ ὠρθώθη τὰ ἔργα Ιωσιου ἐνώπιον τοῦ κυρίου αὐτοῦ ἐν καρδίᾳ πλήρει εὐσεβείας
et omnes reges Israël non celebraverunt tale Pascha , quale egit Josias , et Sacerdotes et Levitæ , et Judæi , et omnis Israël , qui inventi sunt in commoratione Jerosolymis .
Yes, all the kings of Israel held not such a passover as Josias, and the priests, and the Levites, and the Jews, held with all Israel that were present in their dwelling place at Jerusalem.
1:22 ⧉ ⤴︎ καὶ τὰ κατ’ αὐτὸν δὲ ἀναγέγραπται ἐν τοῖς ἔμπροσθεν χρόνοις περὶ τῶν ἡμαρτηκότων καὶ ἠσεβηκότων εἰς τὸν κύριον παρὰ πᾶν ἔθνος καὶ βασιλείαν καὶ ἃ ἐλύπησαν αὐτὸν ἐν αἰσθήσει καὶ οἱ λόγοι τοῦ κυρίου ἀνέστησαν ἐπὶ Ισραηλ
Octavo decimo anno , regnante Josia , celebratum est Phase .
In the eighteenth year of the reign of Josias was this passover held.
1:23 ⧉ ⤴︎ καὶ μετὰ πᾶσαν τὴν πρᾶξιν ταύτην Ιωσιου συνέβη Φαραω βασιλέα Αἰγύπτου ἐλθόντα πόλεμον ἐγεῖραι ἐν Χαρκαμυς ἐπὶ τοῦ Εὐφράτου καὶ ἐξῆλθεν εἰς ἀπάντησιν αὐτῷ Ιωσιας
Et directa sunt opera Josiæ in conspectu Domini sui in corde pleno metuentis :
And the works of Josias were upright before his Lord with a heart full of godliness.
1:24 ⧉ ⤴︎ καὶ διεπέμψατο βασιλεὺς Αἰγύπτου πρὸς αὐτὸν λέγων τί ἐμοὶ καὶ σοί ἐστιν βασιλεῦ τῆς Ιουδαίας
et quæ circa illum quidem conscripta sunt , in pristinis temporibus de eis , qui peccaverunt , quique irreligiosi fuerunt in Dominum præ omni gente , et qui non quæsierunt verba Domini super Israël .
Moreover the things that came to pass in his days have been written in times past, concerning those that sinned, and did wickedly against the Lord above every people and kingdom, and how they grieved him exceedingly, so that the words of the Lord were confirmed against Israel.
1:25 ⧉ ⤴︎ οὐχὶ πρὸς σὲ ἐξαπέσταλμαι ὑπὸ κυρίου τοῦ θεοῦ ἐπὶ γὰρ τοῦ Εὐφράτου ὁ πόλεμός μού ἐστιν καὶ νῦν κύριος μετ’ ἐμοῦ ἐστιν καὶ κύριος μετ’ ἐμοῦ ἐπισπεύδων ἐστίν ἀπόστηθι καὶ μὴ ἐναντιοῦ τῷ κυρίῳ
Et post omnem actum hunc Josiæ , ascendit Pharao rex Ægypti , veniens in Charcamis ab itinere super Euphratem , et exiit obviam illi Josias .
Now after all these acts of Josias it came to pass, that Pharaoh the king of Egypt came to raise war at Carchemish upon Euphrates: and Josias went out against him.
1:26 ⧉ ⤴︎ καὶ οὐκ ἀπέστρεψεν ἑαυτὸν Ιωσιας ἐπὶ τὸ ἅρμα αὐτοῦ ἀλλὰ πολεμεῖν αὐτὸν ἐπιχειρεῖ οὐ προσέχων ῥήμασιν Ιερεμιου προφήτου ἐκ στόματος κυρίου
Et misit rex Ægypti ad Josiam , dicens : Quid mihi et tibi est rex Judæ ?
But the king of Egypt sent to him, saying, What have I to do with you, O king of Judea?
1:27 ⧉ ⤴︎ ἀλλὰ συνεστήσατο πρὸς αὐτὸν πόλεμον ἐν τῷ πεδίῳ Μαγεδδαους καὶ κατέβησαν οἱ ἄρχοντες πρὸς τὸν βασιλέα Ιωσιαν
Non sum missus a Domino ut pugnem contra te : super Euphratem enim bellum meum est , festinans descende .
I am not sent out from the Lord God against you; for my war is upon Euphrates: and now the Lord is with me, yes, the Lord is with me hasting me forward: depart from me, and be not against the Lord.
1:28 ⧉ ⤴︎ καὶ εἶπεν ὁ βασιλεὺς τοῖς παισὶν αὐτοῦ ἀποστήσατέ με ἀπὸ τῆς μάχης ἠσθένησα γὰρ λίαν καὶ εὐθέως ἀπέστησαν αὐτὸν οἱ παῖδες αὐτοῦ ἀπὸ τῆς παρατάξεως
Et non est reversus Josias super currum : sed expugnare eum conabatur , non attendens verbum prophetæ ex ore Domini :
Howbeit Josias did not turn back to his chariot, but undertook to fight with him, not regarding the words of the prophet Jeremy spoken by the mouth of the Lord:
1:29 ⧉ ⤴︎ καὶ ἀνέβη ἐπὶ τὸ ἅρμα τὸ δευτέριον αὐτοῦ καὶ ἀποκατασταθεὶς εἰς Ιερουσαλημ μετήλλαξεν τὸν βίον αὐτοῦ καὶ ἐτάφη ἐν τῷ πατρικῷ τάφῳ
sed constituit ad eum bellum in campo Mageddo . Et descenderunt principes ad regem Josiam .
but joined battle with him in the plain of Megiddo, and the princes came down against King Josias.
1:30 ⧉ ⤴︎ καὶ ἐν ὅλῃ τῇ Ιουδαίᾳ ἐπένθησαν τὸν Ιωσιαν καὶ ἐθρήνησεν Ιερεμιας ὁ προφήτης ὑπὲρ Ιωσιου καὶ οἱ προκαθήμενοι σὺν γυναιξὶν ἐθρηνοῦσαν αὐτὸν ἕως τῆς ἡμέρας ταύτης καὶ ἐξεδόθη τοῦτο γίνεσθαι αἰεὶ εἰς ἅπαν τὸ γένος Ισραηλ
Et dixit rex pueris suis , Amovete me a prælio , infirmatus sum enim valde . Et statim amoverunt eum pueri ipsius de acie .
Then said the king to his servants, Carry me away out of the battle; for I am very weak. And immediately his servants carried him away out of the army.
1:31 ⧉ ⤴︎ ταῦτα δὲ ἀναγέγραπται ἐν τῇ βύβλῳ τῶν ἱστορουμένων περὶ τῶν βασιλέων τῆς Ιουδαίας καὶ τὸ καθ’ ἓν πραχθὲν τῆς πράξεως Ιωσιου καὶ τῆς δόξης αὐτοῦ καὶ τῆς συνέσεως αὐτοῦ ἐν τῷ νόμῳ κυρίου τά τε προπραχθέντα ὑπ’ αὐτοῦ καὶ τὰ νῦν ἱστόρηται ἐν τῷ βυβλίῳ τῶν βασιλέων Ισραηλ καὶ Ιουδα
Et ascendit super currum secundarium suum : et perveniens Jerosolymam , vita functus est , et sepultus est in paterno sepulchro .
Then got he up upon his second chariot; and being brought back to Jerusalem he died, and was buried in the sepulchre of his fathers.
1:32 ⧉ ⤴︎ καὶ ἀναλαβόντες οἱ ἐκ τοῦ ἔθνους τὸν Ιεχονιαν υἱὸν Ιωσιου ἀνέδειξαν βασιλέα ἀντὶ Ιωσιου τοῦ πατρὸς αὐτοῦ ὄντα ἐτῶν εἴκοσι τριῶν
Et in tota Judæa lugebant Josiam : et qui præsidebant cum uxoribus lamentabant eum usque in hunc diem . Et datum est hoc fieri semper in omne genus Israël .
And in all Jewry they mourned for Josias; and Jeremy the prophet lamented for Josias, and the chief men with the women made lamentation for him, to this day: and this was given out for an ordinance to be done continually in all the nation of Israel.
1:33 ⧉ ⤴︎ καὶ ἐβασίλευσεν ἐν Ιουδα καὶ Ιερουσαλημ μῆνας τρεῖς καὶ ἀπεκατέστησεν αὐτὸν βασιλεὺς Αἰγύπτου βασιλεύειν ἐν Ιερουσαλημ
Hæc autem præscripta sunt in libro historiarum regum Judæ : et singula gesta actus Josiæ , et ejus gloria et intellectus ejus in lege Domini : quæque gesta sunt ab eo , et quæ non scripta sunt in libro regum Israël et Judæ .
These things are written in the book of the histories of the kings of Judea, and every one of the acts that Josias did, and his glory, and his understanding in the law of the Lord, and the things that he had done before, and the things now recited, are reported in the book of the kings of Israel and Judah.
1:34 ⧉ ⤴︎ καὶ ἐζημίωσεν τὸ ἔθνος ἀργυρίου ταλάντοις ἑκατὸν καὶ χρυσίου ταλάντῳ ἑνί
Et assumentes qui erant ex gente Jechoniam filium Josiæ , constituerunt regem pro Josia patre suo , cum esset annorum trigintatrium .
And the people took Joachaz the son of Josias, and made him king instead of Josias his father, when he was twenty and three years old.
1:35 ⧉ ⤴︎ καὶ ἀνέδειξεν ὁ βασιλεὺς Αἰγύπτου βασιλέα Ιωακιμ τὸν ἀδελφὸν αὐτοῦ βασιλέα τῆς Ιουδαίας καὶ Ιερουσαλημ
Et regnavit super Israël mensibus tribus . Et amovit eum rex Ægypti , ne regnaret in Jerosolymis :
And he reigned in Judah and in Jerusalem three months: and then the king of Egypt deposed him from reigning in Jerusalem.
1:36 ⧉ ⤴︎ καὶ ἔδησεν Ιωακιμ τοὺς μεγιστᾶνας Ζαριον δὲ τὸν ἀδελφὸν αὐτοῦ συλλαβὼν ἀνήγαγεν ἐξ Αἰγύπτου
et mulctavit gentem argenti talenta centum , et auri talentum unum .
And he set a tax upon the people of a hundred talents of silver and one talent of gold.
1:37 ⧉ ⤴︎ ἐτῶν δὲ ἦν εἴκοσι πέντε Ιωακιμ ὅτε ἐβασίλευσεν τῆς Ιουδαίας καὶ Ιερουσαλημ καὶ ἐποίησεν τὸ πονηρὸν ἐνώπιον κυρίου
Et constituit rex Ægypti Joacim fratrem ipsius , regem Judæ et Jerusalem :
The king of Egypt also made King Joakim his brother king of Judea and Jerusalem.
1:38 ⧉ ⤴︎ ἐπ’ αὐτὸν δὲ ἀνέβη Ναβουχοδονοσορ βασιλεὺς Βαβυλῶνος καὶ δήσας αὐτὸν ἐν χαλκείῳ δεσμῷ ἀπήγαγεν εἰς Βαβυλῶνα
et alligavit magistratus Joacim , et Zaracelem fratrem suum , et apprehendens reduxit in Ægyptum .
And Joakim bound the nobles: but Zarakes his brother he apprehended, and brought him up out of Egypt.
1:39 ⧉ ⤴︎ καὶ ἀπὸ τῶν ἱερῶν σκευῶν τοῦ κυρίου λαβὼν Ναβουχοδονοσορ καὶ ἀπενέγκας ἀπηρείσατο ἐν τῷ ναῷ αὐτοῦ ἐν Βαβυλῶνι
Annorum erat Joacim vigintiquinque , cum regnare cœpisset in terra Juda et Jerusalem : et fecit malum in conspectu Domini .
Five and twenty years old was Joakim when he began to reign in Judea and Jerusalem; and he did that which was evil in the sight of the Lord.
1:40 ⧉ ⤴︎ τὰ δὲ ἱστορηθέντα περὶ αὐτοῦ καὶ τῆς αὐτοῦ ἀκαθαρσίας καὶ δυσσεβείας ἀναγέγραπται ἐν τῇ βίβλῳ τῶν χρόνων τῶν βασιλέων
Post hunc autem ascendit Nabuchodonosor rex Babylonis , et alligans eum in æreo vinculo , perduxit in Babyloniam :
And against him Nabuchodonosor the king of Babylon came up, and bound him with a chain of brass, and carried him to Babylon.
1:41 ⧉ ⤴︎ καὶ ἐβασίλευσεν ἀντ’ αὐτοῦ Ιωακιμ ὁ υἱὸς αὐτοῦ ὅτε γὰρ ἀνεδείχθη ἦν ἐτῶν δέκα ὀκτώ
et sacra vasa Domini accepit Nabuchodonosor , et tulit et consecravit in templo suo in Babylonia .
Nabuchodonosor also took of the holy vessels of the Lord, and carried them away, and set them up in his own temple at Babylon.
1:42 ⧉ ⤴︎ βασιλεύει δὲ μῆνας τρεῖς καὶ ἡμέρας δέκα ἐν Ιερουσαλημ καὶ ἐποίησεν τὸ πονηρὸν ἔναντι κυρίου
Nam de immunditia illius , et irreligiositate scriptum est in libro temporum regum .
But those things that are reported of him, and of his uncleanness and impiety, are written in the chronicles of the kings.
1:43 ⧉ ⤴︎ καὶ μετ’ ἐνιαυτὸν ἀποστείλας Ναβουχοδονοσορ μετήγαγεν αὐτὸν εἰς Βαβυλῶνα ἅμα τοῖς ἱεροῖς σκεύεσιν τοῦ κυρίου
Et regnavit Joachin filius ejus pro eo . Cum autem constitutus esset rex , erat annorum decem et octo .
And Joakim his son reigned in his stead: for when he was made king he was eighteen years old;
1:44 ⧉ ⤴︎ καὶ ἀνέδειξε Σεδεκιαν βασιλέα τῆς Ιουδαίας καὶ Ιερουσαλημ Σεδεκιαν ὄντα ἐτῶν εἴκοσι ἑνός βασιλεύει δὲ ἔτη ἕνδεκα
Regnavit autem menses tres , et dies decem in Jerusalem , et fecit malum in conspectu Domini :
and he reigned three months and ten days in Jerusalem; and did that which was evil before the Lord.
1:45 ⧉ ⤴︎ καὶ ἐποίησεν τὸ πονηρὸν ἐνώπιον κυρίου καὶ οὐκ ἐνετράπη ἀπὸ τῶν ῥηθέντων λόγων ὑπὸ Ιερεμιου τοῦ προφήτου ἐκ στόματος τοῦ κυρίου
et post annum mittens Nabuchodonosor , transmigravit eum in Babyloniam simul cum sacris vasis Domini .
So after a year Nabuchodonosor sent and caused him to be brought to Babylon with the holy vessels of the Lord;
1:46 ⧉ ⤴︎ καὶ ὁρκισθεὶς ἀπὸ τοῦ βασιλέως Ναβουχοδονοσορ τῷ ὀνόματι τοῦ κυρίου ἐπιορκήσας ἀπέστη καὶ σκληρύνας αὐτοῦ τὸν τράχηλον καὶ τὴν καρδίαν αὐτοῦ παρέβη τὰ νόμιμα κυρίου θεοῦ Ισραηλ
Et constituit Sedeciam regem Juda , et Jerusalem , cum esset annorum viginti unius : regnavit autem annis undecim .
and made Sedekias king of Judea and Jerusalem, when he was one and twenty years old; and he reigned eleven years:
1:47 ⧉ ⤴︎ καὶ οἱ ἡγούμενοι δὲ τοῦ λαοῦ καὶ τῶν ἱερέων πολλὰ ἠσέβησαν καὶ ἠνόμησαν ὑπὲρ πάσας τὰς ἀκαθαρσίας πάντων τῶν ἐθνῶν καὶ ἐμίαναν τὸ ἱερὸν τοῦ κυρίου τὸ ἁγιαζόμενον ἐν Ιεροσολύμοις
Et fecit malum in conspectu Domini , et non est veritus a verbis , quæ dicta sunt ab Jeremia propheta ex ore Domini :
and he also did that which was evil in the sight of the Lord, and cared not for the words that were spoken by Jeremy the prophet from the mouth of the Lord.
1:48 ⧉ ⤴︎ καὶ ἀπέστειλεν ὁ θεὸς τῶν πατέρων αὐτῶν διὰ τοῦ ἀγγέλου αὐτοῦ μετακαλέσαι αὐτούς καθὸ ἐφείδετο αὐτῶν καὶ τοῦ σκηνώματος αὐτοῦ
et adjuratus a rege Nabuchodonosor , perjurans discessit : et indurata cervice sua , et corde suo , transgressus est legitima Domini Dei Israël .
And after that king Nabuchodonosor had made him to swear by the name of the Lord, he forswore himself, and rebelled; and hardening his neck, and his heart, he transgressed the laws of the Lord, the God of Israel.
1:49 ⧉ ⤴︎ αὐτοὶ δὲ ἐξεμυκτήρισαν ἐν τοῖς ἀγγέλοις αὐτοῦ καὶ ᾗ ἡμέρᾳ ἐλάλησεν κύριος ἦσαν ἐκπαίζοντες τοὺς προφήτας αὐτοῦ ἕως τοῦ θυμωθέντα αὐτὸν ἐπὶ τῷ ἔθνει αὐτοῦ διὰ τὰ δυσσεβήματα προστάξαι ἀναβιβάσαι ἐπ’ αὐτοὺς τοὺς βασιλεῖς τῶν Χαλδαίων
Et duces populi Domini multa inique gesserunt , et impie egerunt super omnes immunditias gentium : et polluerunt templum Domini quod sanctum erat in Jerosolymis .
Moreover the governors of the people and of the priests did many things wickedly, and passed all the pollutions of all nations, and defiled the temple of the Lord, which was sanctified in Jerusalem.
1:50 ⧉ ⤴︎ οὗτοι ἀπέκτειναν τοὺς νεανίσκους αὐτῶν ἐν ῥομφαίᾳ περικύκλῳ τοῦ ἁγίου αὐτῶν ἱεροῦ καὶ οὐκ ἐφείσαντο νεανίσκου καὶ παρθένου καὶ πρεσβύτου καὶ νεωτέρου ἀλλὰ πάντας παρέδωκεν εἰς τὰς χεῖρας αὐτῶν
Et misit Deus patrum ipsorum per angelum suum revocare eos , propter quod parceret illis , et tabernaculo suo .
And the God of their fathers sent by his messenger to call them back, because he had compassion on them and on his dwelling place.
1:51 ⧉ ⤴︎ καὶ πάντα τὰ ἱερὰ σκεύη τοῦ κυρίου τὰ μεγάλα καὶ τὰ μικρὰ καὶ τὰς κιβωτοὺς τοῦ κυρίου καὶ τὰς βασιλικὰς ἀποθήκας ἀναλαβόντες ἀπήνεγκαν εἰς Βαβυλῶνα
Ipsi vero subsannabant in angelis suis : et qua die locutus est Dominus , erant illudentes prophetis ejus .
But they mocked his messengers; and in the day when the Lord spoke to them, they scoffed at his prophets:
1:52 ⧉ ⤴︎ καὶ ἐνεπύρισαν τὸν οἶκον τοῦ κυρίου καὶ ἔλυσαν τὰ τείχα Ιεροσολύμων καὶ τοὺς πύργους αὐτῶν ἐνεπύρισαν ἐν πυρὶ
Qui usque ad iracundiam concitatus est super gentem suam propter irreligiositatem suam , et præcepit ascendere reges Chaldæorum .
so far forth, that he, being angry with his people for their great ungodliness, commanded to bring up the kings of the Chaldeans against them;
1:53 ⧉ ⤴︎ καὶ συνετέλεσαν πάντα τὰ ἔνδοξα αὐτῆς ἀχρεῶσαι καὶ τοὺς ἐπιλοίπους ἀπήγαγεν μετὰ ῥομφαίας εἰς Βαβυλῶνα
Hi occiderunt juvenes eorum in gladio , in circuitu sancti templi eorum , et non pepercerunt juveni , et seni , et virgini , et adolescenti :
who killed their young men with the sword, round about their holy temple, and spared neither young man nor maid, old man nor child; but he delivered all into their hands.
1:54 ⧉ ⤴︎ καὶ ἦσαν παῖδες αὐτῷ καὶ τοῖς υἱοῖς αὐτοῦ μέχρι τοῦ βασιλεῦσαι Πέρσας εἰς ἀναπλήρωσιν τοῦ ῥήματος τοῦ κυρίου ἐν στόματι Ιερεμιου
sed omnes traditi sunt in manus ipsorum : et omnia sacra vasa Domini , et regales apothecas resumentes , tulerunt in Babyloniam ,
And they took all the holy vessels of the Lord, both great and small, with the vessels of the ark of the Lord, and the king’s treasures, and carried them away to Babylon.
1:55 ⧉ ⤴︎ ἕως τοῦ εὐδοκῆσαι τὴν γῆν τὰ σάββατα αὐτῆς πάντα τὸν χρόνον τῆς ἐρημώσεως αὐτῆς σαββατιεῖ εἰς συμπλήρωσιν ἐτῶν ἑβδομήκοντα
et incenderunt domum Domini , et demolierunt muros Jerusalem : et turres ejus incenderunt igne ,
And they burned the house of the Lord, and brake down the walls of Jerusalem, and burned the towers thereof with fire:
1:56 ⧉ ⤴︎ — et consummaverunt omnia honorifica ejus , et ad nihilum redegerunt , et reliquos a gladio duxerunt in Babylonem .
and as for her glorious things, they never ceased till they had brought them all to nothing: and the people that were not slain with the sword he carried to Babylon:
1:57 ⧉ ⤴︎ — Et erant servi illius usque dum regnarent Persæ in repletione verbi Domini in ore Jeremiæ :
and they were servants to him and to his children, till the Persians reigned, to fulfil the word of the Lord by the mouth of Jeremy:
1:58 ⧉ ⤴︎ — quousque benigne ageret terra sabbata sua , omni tempore desertionis suæ sabbatizavit in applicatione annorum septuaginta septem .
Until the land has enjoyed her Sabbaths, the whole time of her desolation shall she keep Sabbath, to fulfil threescore and ten years.
