Stars hidden by black clouds can shed no light. If the turbid south wind, rolling the sea, churns up the swell, the wave, but lately glassy and clear as on serene days, soon, the mire loosened, foul with mud, blocks the sight. And the stream that wanders down from the high mountains often is stayed by the rock of a stone loosened in its path. You too, if you wish to discern the truth with clear light, and to take the path by a straight track, cast off joy, cast off fear, put hope to flight, and let no grief be present. The mind is clouded and bound in reins where these hold sway.
