(55) The intellect that has been deemed worthy of spiritual knowledge must keep its conceptions of things free from passion, its contemplations secure, and the state of its prayer undisturbed;
(五十五)蒙恩得著屬靈知識的心智,必須持守對萬物的意念不受情慾沾染、其默觀堅定不移、其禱告的境界清澈不濁;

οὐ δύναται δὲ ταύτην ἀεὶ τηρεῖν ἐκ τῶν τῆς σαρκὸς ἀναδόσεων , διὰ τῆς τῶν δαιμόνων ἐπιβουλῆς καπνιζόμενος
yet it cannot always preserve this state because of the exhalations of the flesh, being clouded with smoke through the plotting of the demons.
然而它無法恆常持守這境界,因肉體的薰騰之氣,又因群魔的詭計使它如被煙燻而昏暗。

(56) We are not angered by all the things that grieve us;

for the things that produce grief are more numerous than those that produce anger.

For instance: this thing has been broken, that has been lost, so-and-so has died;

for over such things we are only grieved;

(57) When he contemplates these things spiritually, he is variously transfigured according to each object of contemplation;

but when he comes to be in God, he becomes wholly without form and without shape;

(58) The soul is perfect whose passible power has wholly inclined toward God.

(ƒ θ ) Νοῦς ἐστι τέλειος , ὁ διὰ πίστεως ἀληθοῦς τὸν ὑπεράγνωστον ὑπεραγνώστως ὑπερεγνωκὼς καὶ τῶν αὐτοῦ δημιουργημάτων τὰ καθόλου θεασάμενος καὶ τῆς ἐν αὐτοῖς προνοίας καὶ κρίσεως τὴν περιληπτικὴν γνῶσιν παρὰ Θεοῦ εἰληφώς·
(59) The intellect is perfect that, through true faith, has come to know beyond knowing the One who is beyond knowing, and has beheld the universal principles of His creatures, and has received from God the comprehensive knowledge of His providence and judgment within them.
(五十九)這心智是完全的:它藉真信仰,以超越知識的方式認識那超越一切知識的主,並洞察祂造物的普遍邏各斯,又從神領受了關於其中護理與審判的全備知識。

(100) Time is divided into three; and faith extends together with all three divisions;

Καὶ ἡ μὲν πίστις καὶ ἐλπὶς μέχρι τινός , ἡ δὲ ἀγάπη εἰς ἀπείρους αἰῶνας τῷ ὑπεραπείρῳ ὑπερηνωμένη καὶ ἀεὶ ὑπεραύξουσα διαμένει·
and faith and hope last only up to a certain point, but love, surpassingly united to the One who is beyond all infinity and ever increasing beyond measure, abides into the boundless ages;
信與望僅存到某一程度,惟有愛超凡地與那超乎一切無限者聯合,並永遠超越地增長,存到無窮的世代;

καὶ διὰ τοῦτο μείζων πάντων ἡ ἀγάπη
and for this reason love is the greatest of all.
因此,愛是其中最大的。

FOURTH CENTURY. (1) First the intellect marvels as it ponders the divine infinity in all respects, and that inexhaustible and most-longed-for ocean.
第四百章。(一)心智首先驚奇地思想那在各方面都無限的神性,以及那不可窮盡、極可羨慕的汪洋大海。

Ἀλλ ὥσπερ τῆς μεγαλωσύνης αὐτοῦ οὐκ ἔστι πέρας , οὕτως οὐδὲ τῆς φρονήσεως αὐτοῦ ἔστιν ἐξεύρεσις
But just as there is no limit to His greatness, so neither is there any discovering of His wisdom.
但正如祂的偉大沒有止境,祂的智慧也照樣無法被測透。

(β ) Πῶς γὰρ οὐ θαυμάζει τὸ ἄπλετον ἐκεῖνο καὶ ὑπὲρ ἔκπληξιν θεωρῶν τῆς ἀγαθότητος πέλαγος;Ἢ πῶς οὐκ ἐξίσταται ἐννοούμενος πῶς καὶ πόθεν ἥ τε λογικὰ καὶ νοερὰ γέγονεν οὐσία καὶ τὰ τέσσαρα στοιχεῖα , ἐξ ὧν τὰ σώματα , μηδεμιᾶς ὕλης τῆς τούτων προϋπαρξάσης γενέσεως; Ποία τε ἡ δύναμις ἐκείνη , ἡ εἰς ἐνέργειαν κινηθεῖσα ταῦτα εἰς τὸ εἶναι παρήγαγεν; Ἀλλὰ τοῦτο Ἑλλήνων παῖδες οὐ παραδέχονται , ἀγνοοῦντες τὴν παντοδύναμον ἀγαθότητα καὶ τὴν δραστήριον αὐτῆς καὶ ὑπὲρ νοῦν σοφίαν καὶ γνῶσιν
(2) For how should it not marvel as it contemplates that boundless ocean of goodness, beyond all astonishment? Or how should it not be amazed as it ponders how and whence rational and intellectual being came to be, and the four elements out of which bodies are made, when no matter pre-existed for their generation? And what was that power which, set in motion to act, brought these into being? But this the children of the Greeks do not accept, being ignorant of the all-powerful goodness and of its active wisdom and knowledge that surpasses the intellect.
(二)心智默觀那超越一切驚駭、無邊無際的良善之海,怎能不驚奇?又當它思想那理性與智性的本質如何並從何而生,以及構成形體的四元素,在沒有任何先存物質的情況下如何被造,怎能不歎為觀止?究竟是何等的能力,被激動而運行,將這一切帶進存在?然而希臘人的子弟卻不接受這事,因他們不認識那全能的良善,以及它那有效運行、超乎心智的智慧與知識。

( γ ) Ἐξ ἀϊδίου δημιουργὸς ὑπάρχων ὁ Θεός , ὅτε βούλεται δημιουργεῖ Λόγῳ ὁμοουσίῳ καὶ Πνεύματι δι ἄπειρον ἀγαθότητα
(3) Being a Creator from all eternity, God creates when He wills, through His consubstantial Word and Spirit, on account of His boundless goodness.
(三)神從亙古便是創造者,祂憑著與祂同質的話(道)和靈,因祂無限的良善,在祂所願的時候施行創造。

τίνι λόγῳ νῦν ἐδημιούργησεν , ἀεὶ ἀγαθὸς (≡__≡> ὑπάρχων; Ἐπεί , κἀγώ σοι λέγω , ὅτι ἡ τῆς ἀπείρου οὐσίας ἀνεξιχνίαστος σοφία τῇ ἀνθρωπίνῃ οὐχ ὑποπίπτει γνώσει
"But by what reason did He create only now, being ever good?" To this I answer you: the unsearchable wisdom of the infinite Being does not fall under human knowledge.
「然而祂既永遠是良善的,為何如今才創造呢?」對此我這樣回答你:那無限本質的不可測度之智慧,並不在人的知識所能企及之內。

Ἄτοπον δέ ἐστιν ἐπὶ Θεοῦ τοῦ παντοδυνάμου διστάσαι εἰ δύναταί τι οὐσιῶσαι , ὅτε βούλεται
It is absurd, in the case of the all-powerful God, to doubt whether He is able to bring anything into being whenever He wills.
對那全能的神而言,懷疑祂是否能在祂所願的時候使任何事物進入存在,乃是荒謬的。

Τὸ δὲ πῶς καὶ διὰ τί προσφάτως μὴ ζήτει·
But do not inquire into the how and the why He created so "recently";
但你不要追問祂如何、為何如此「晚近」才創造;
1:1230⧉ ⤴︎
οὐκ ἔστι γὰρ τῷ σῷ ὑποπίπτουσα νῷ , διότι τῶν θείων τὰ μὲν ληπτά , τὰ δὲ ἄληπτα τοῖς ἀνθρώποις
for it does not fall under your intellect, since of divine things some are comprehensible to men and others incomprehensible.
因為這不在你心智所能企及之內,既然在神的事中,有些是人可領悟的,有些則是人不可領悟的。

Θεωρία δὲ ἀχαλίνωτος κατὰ κρημνὸν ὤσειεν , ὡς ἔφη τις τῶν ἁγίων
And unbridled contemplation might thrust one over a precipice, as one of the saints has said.
正如一位聖徒所言,毫無約束的默觀,恐怕會將人推下懸崖。

( στ ) Τινές φασι συνυπάρχειν ἐξ ἀϊδίου τῷ Θεῷ τὰ δημιουργήματα , ὅπερ ἀμήχανον
(6) Some say that created things co-exist with God from all eternity, which is impossible.
(六)有人說受造之物與神從亙古便共同存在,但這是不可能的。
1:1233⧉ ⤴︎
Ἡμεῖς δὲ τὸν παντοδύναμον ἐγνωκότες Θεόν , οὐ ποιοτήτων , ἀλλ οὐσιῶν πεποιωμένων δημιουργὸν αὐτὸν εἶναί φαμεν
But we, having come to know the all-powerful God, declare Him to be the Creator not of qualities, but of substances endowed with qualities.
但我們既認識了那全能的神,便宣告祂並非品質的創造者,乃是賦有品質之諸本質的創造者。

Εἰ δὲ τοῦτο , οὐκ ἐξ ἀϊδίου συνύπαρκτα τῷ Θεῷ τὰ δημιουργήματα
And if this is so, then created things do not co-exist with God from all eternity.
既是如此,那麼受造之物便不是與神從亙古共同存在的。

(ζ ) Κατά τι μὲν γνωστὸν τὸ θεῖον καὶ τὰ θεῖα , κατά τι δὲ ἄγνωστον·
(7) In one respect the Divine and divine things are knowable, and in another unknowable;
(七)神與屬神的事物,就一方面而言是可知的,就另一方面而言是不可知的;

καὶ γνωστὸν μέν , τοῖς περὶ αὐτὸ θεωρήμασιν·
knowable through the contemplations concerning Him;
藉著關乎祂的諸般默觀而為可知;

ἄγνωστον δέ , τοῖς κατ αὐτό
but unknowable in respect of what He is in Himself.
但就祂自身本體而言,則是不可知的。

(η ) Μὴ ἕξεις καὶ ἐπιτηδειότητας ζητήσῃς ἐπὶ τῆς ἁπλῆς καὶ (≡__≡> ἀπείρου οὐσίας τῆς ἁγίας Τριάδος , ἵνα μὴ σύνθετον αὐτὴν ποιήσῃς ὥσπερ τὰ κτίσματα·
(8) Do not seek for states and aptitudes in the case of the simple and infinite Being of the Holy Trinity, lest you make it composite like creatures;
(八)對於聖三一那單純無限的本質,不要尋求其中有何狀態或稟性,免得你使它像受造之物一般成為複合的;

ὅπερ ἄτοπον καὶ ἀθέμιτον ἐπὶ Θεοῦ ἐννοῆσαι
for it is absurd and unlawful to conceive such a thing concerning God.
因為對神懷有這樣的想法,乃是荒謬且不可容的。

(θ ) Μόνη ἁπλῆ καὶ μονοειδὴς καὶ ἄποιος καὶ εἰρηναία καὶ ἀστασίαστος ἡ ἄπειρος οὐσία καὶ παντοδύναμος καὶ δημιουργικὴ τῶν ὅλων
(9) Alone simple, single in form, without quality, peaceful, and free from all discord is the infinite, all-powerful, and creative Being of all things.
(九)惟有那無限、全能、創造萬有的本質,是單純的、單一形像的、無品質的、安寧的、毫無紛爭的。

Πᾶσα δὲ ἡ κτίσις σύνθετος ὑπάρχει ἐξ οὐσίας καὶ συμβεβηκότος καὶ ἐπιδεὴς ἀεὶ τῆς θείας προνοίας , ὡς τροπῆς οὐκ ἐλευθέρα
But all creation is composite, of substance and accident, and ever in need of divine providence, since it is not free from change.
但一切受造之物都是複合的,由本質與偶性所構成,並常需神的護理,因它不能脫離變遷。

(ι ) Πᾶσα ἡ νοερὰ οὐσία καὶ ἡ αἰσθητικὴ ἔλαβον δυνάμεις , παρὰ Θεοῦ εἰς τὸ εἶναι παραχθεῖσαι , ἀντιληπτικὰς τῶν ὄντων·
(10) All intellectual being and all sensory being received powers from God when they were brought into existence, powers for apprehending the things that are;
(十)一切智性的本質與一切感官的本質,當被神帶進存在時,都領受了領會萬有的能力;

ἡ μὲν νοερὰ τὰς νοήσεις , ἡ δὲ αἰσθητικὴ τὰς αἰσθήσεις
the intellectual being received acts of understanding, and the sensory being received acts of perception.
智性的本質領受了理解的作用,感官的本質領受了知覺的作用。

(ια )Ὁ μὲν Θεὸς μετέχεται μόνον , ἡ δὲ κτίσις καὶ μετέχει καὶ μεταδίδωσι·
(11) God is only participated in, but creation both participates and imparts;
(十一)神只能被分享,而受造之物既分享又施與;

καὶ μετέχει μὲν τοῦ εἶναι καὶ τοῦ εὖ εἶναι , μεταδίδωσι δὲ τοῦ εὖ εἶναι μόνον·
it participates in being and in well-being, but imparts only well-being;
它分享存在與美好的存在,卻只施與美好的存在;

ἀλλ ἑτέρως μὲν ἡ σωματική , ἑτέρως δὲ ἡ ἀσώματος οὐσία
yet in one way the corporeal being does so, and in another the incorporeal.

(ιβ )Ἡ μὲν ἀσώματος οὐσία καὶ λέγουσα καὶ πράττουσα καὶ θεωρουμένη τοῦ εὖ εἶναι μεταδίδωσιν·
(12) The incorporeal being imparts well-being by speaking, by acting, and by being contemplated;
(十二)非形體的本質藉著言說、行動,以及被默觀,而施與美好的存在;

ἡ δὲ σωματική , θεωρουμένη μόνον
but the corporeal does so only by being contemplated.
但形體的本質只藉著被默觀而施與。

( ιγ ) Τὸ μὲν ἀεὶ εἶναι ἢ μὴ εἶναι τὴν λογικὴν καὶ νοερὰν οὐσίαν ἐν τῇ βουλήσει ἐστὶ τοῦ τὰ πάντα καλὰ δημιουργήσαντος·
(13) Whether the rational and intellectual being shall exist forever or not lies in the will of Him who created all things good;
(十三)那理性與智性的本質是否要永遠存在,全在乎那位將萬物造為美善者的旨意;

τὸ δὲ ἀγαθὰ ταῦτα εἶναι κατὰ προαίρεσιν ἢ φαῦλα ἐν τῷ θελήματι τῶν γεγονότων ὑπάρχει
but whether these are good by deliberate choice or wicked lies in the will of those who have come into being.
但這些受造者按其抉擇意志是良善或卑劣,則在乎受造者自己的意志。
1:1251⧉ ⤴︎
(ιδ ) Οὐ περὶ τὴν οὐσίαν τῶν γεγονότων τὸ κακὸν θεωρεῖται , ἀλλὰ περὶ τὴν ἐσφαλμένην καὶ ἀλόγιστον κίνησιν
(14) Evil is not contemplated in the substance of created beings, but in their erring and irrational movement.
(十四)邪惡並非存於受造之物的本質中,乃是存於其錯謬而無理的活動中。

( ιε ) Εὐλόγως κινεῖται ἡ ψυχή , ὅταν τὸ μὲν ἐπιθυμητικὸν αὐτῆς (≡__≡> τῇ ἐγκρατείᾳ πεποίωται·
(15) The soul moves rightly when its desiring power has been qualified by self-control,
(十五)當靈魂的慾望官能因節制而得以調正,靈魂的活動便是正當的;

τὸ δὲ θυμικὸν τῆς ἀγάπης ἀντέχηται , τὸ μῖσος ἀποστρεφόμενον·
and its incensive power cleaves to love, turning away from hatred,

τὸ δὲ λογιστικὸν πρὸς τὸν Θεὸν διάγῃ διὰ προσευχῆς καὶ θεωρίας πνευματικῆς
and its rational power abides with God through prayer and spiritual contemplation.

(ιστ ) Οὔπω ἔχει τελείαν τὴν ἀγάπην οὐδὲ τῆς θείας προνοίας κατὰ βάθος τὴν γνῶσιν ὁ ἐν καιρῷ πειρασμοῦ μὴ μακροθυμῶν ἐπὶ τοῖς συμβαίνουσι λυπηροῖς , ἀλλ ἀποκόπτων ἑαυτὸν τῆς τῶν πνευματικῶν ἀδελφῶν ἀγάπης
(16) He does not yet possess perfect love nor the deep knowledge of divine providence who, in time of trial, does not bear with longsuffering the grievous things that befall him, but cuts himself off from the love of his spiritual brethren.
(十六)凡在試煉之時,對所臨到的憂患不肯恆忍,反倒將自己從屬靈弟兄的愛中割離的,他便尚未擁有完全的愛,也尚未深知神的護理。

( ιζ ) Σκοπὸς τῆς θείας προνοίας τὸ τοὺς ὑπὸ τῆς κακίας ποικίλως διεσχισμένους διὰ τῆς ὀρθῆς πίστεως καὶ τῆς πνευματικῆς ἀγάπης ἑνοποιεῖν , εἴπερ διὰ τοῦτο πέπονθεν ὁ Σωτήρ , ἵνα τὰ τέκνα τοῦ Θεοῦ τὰ διεσκορπισμένα συναγάγῃ εἰς ἕν
(17) The aim of divine providence is to unite, through right faith and spiritual love, those who have been variously rent asunder by evil—if indeed the Saviour suffered for this very purpose, that He might gather into one the scattered children of God.
(十七)神護理的目標,乃是藉著正確的信仰與屬靈的愛,將那些被邪惡多方撕裂的人聯合為一;既然救主正是為此受苦,要將神四散的兒女聚集歸一。

Ὁ οὖν μὴ στέγων τὰ ὀχληρὰ μηδὲ φέρων τὰ λυπηρὰ μηδὲ ὑπομένων τὰ ἐπίπονα , ἐκτὸς τῆς θείας ἀγάπης καὶ τοῦ σκοποῦ τῆς προνοίας περιπαθεῖ
Therefore he who does not endure the troublesome things, nor bear the grievous things, nor patiently suffer the painful things, walks apart from divine love and from the aim of providence.
所以,凡不能忍受煩擾之事、不能擔當憂患之事、不能堅忍痛苦之事的人,便偏離了神的愛與護理的目標。

( ιη ) Εἰ ἡ ἀγάπη μακροθυμεῖ καὶ χρηστεύεται , ὁ ὀλιγοψυχῶν ἐπὶ τοῖς συμβαίνουσι λυπηροῖς καὶ διὰ τοῦτο πονηρευόμενος ἐπὶ τοῖς λυπήσασι καὶ τῆς πρὸς αὐτοὺς ἀγάπης ἑαυτὸν ἀποκόπτων , πῶς τοῦ σκοποῦ τῆς θείας προνοίας οὐκ ἐκπίπτει; . (ιθ ) Πρόσεχε σεαυτῷ , μήποτε ἡ χωρίζουσά σε ἐκ τοῦ ἀδελφοῦ κακία οὐκ ἐν τῷ ἀδελφῷ , ἀλλ ἔν σοι εὑρίσκεται·
(18) If love is longsuffering and kind, then he who is faint-hearted at the grievous things that befall him, and on this account bears malice against those who have grieved him, and cuts himself off from love toward them—how does he not fall away from the aim of divine providence? (19) Take heed to yourself, lest the evil that separates you from your brother be found not in your brother, but in you;
(十八)愛若是恆忍又有恩慈,那麼凡因所臨到的憂患而灰心喪膽、並因此向使他憂傷的人懷恨、又將自己從對他們的愛中割離的人,怎能不偏離神護理的目標呢?(十九)你要謹慎自己,免得那使你與弟兄分離的惡,並不在你弟兄身上,乃在你自己身上;

καὶ σπεῦσον αὐτῷ διαλλαγῆναι , ἵνα μὴ τῆς ἐντολῆς τῆς ἀγάπης ἐκπέσῃς
and make haste to be reconciled to him, lest you fall away from the commandment of love.
你當趕緊與他和好,免得你從愛的誡命中墜落。
1:1260⧉ ⤴︎
(κ ) Μὴ καταφρονήσῃς τῆς ἐντολῆς τῆς ἀγάπης , ὅτι δι αὐτῆς υἱὸς Θεοῦ ἔσῃ·
(20) Do not despise the commandment of love, for through it you shall be a son of God;
(二十)不要藐視愛的誡命,因為藉著它你必成為神的兒子;
1:1261⧉ ⤴︎
ἣν παραβαίνων , υἱὸς γεέννης εὑρεθήσῃ
but in transgressing it you shall be found a son of Gehenna.
但你若違犯它,便要被見為地獄之子。
1:1262⧉ ⤴︎
( κα ) Τὰ χωρίζοντα τῆς τῶν φίλων ἀγάπης εἰσὶ ταῦτα·
(21) These are the things that separate us from the love of friends:
(二十一)使我們與朋友之愛相隔離的,乃是這些事:

τὸ φθονεῖν (≡__≡> ἢ φθονεῖσθαι , τὸ ζημιοῦν ἢ ζημιοῦσθαι , τὸ ἀτιμάζειν ἢ ἀτιμάζεσθαι καὶ οἱ ἐξ ὑπονοίας λογισμοί
to envy or to be envied, to harm or to be harmed, to dishonour or to be dishonoured, and thoughts arising from suspicion.
嫉妒人或被人嫉妒,損害人或被人損害,羞辱人或被人羞辱,以及由猜疑而生的念頭。
1:1264⧉ ⤴︎
Μήποτε οὖν ἔδρασάς τι τούτων ἢ πέπονθας καὶ διὰ τοῦτο τῆς τοῦ φίλου ἀγάπης χωρίζῃ
Have you then ever done any of these things, or suffered them, and on this account are separated from the love of your friend?
那麼,你是否曾作過這些事,或曾受過這些事,並因此而與朋友的愛相隔離了呢?

( κβ ) Συνέβη σοι πειρασμὸς ἐκ τοῦ ἀδελφοῦ καὶ ἡ λύπη εἰς μῖσός σε ἤγαγε·
(22) A trial has come upon you from your brother, and the grief has led you to hatred;
(二十二)你從弟兄那裡遇見了試煉,那憂傷竟引你陷入恨惡;

μὴ νικῶ ὑπὸ τοῦ μίσους , ἀλλὰ νίκα ἐν τῇ ἀγάπῃ τὸ μῖσος
do not be overcome by hatred, but overcome the hatred by love.
不要被恨惡所勝,倒要用愛勝過那恨惡。

Νικήσεις δὲ τρόπῳ τοιούτῳ·
And you shall overcome it in this manner:
你必這樣勝過它:

προσευχόμενος ὑπὲρ αὐτοῦ γνησίως πρὸς τὸν Θεόν , τὴν ἀπολογίαν αὐτοῦ δεχόμενος ἢ καὶ αὐτὸς διὰ ταύτης αὐτὸν θεραπεύων καὶ σεαυτὸν αἴτιον τοῦ πειρασμοῦ λογιζόμενος καὶ μακροθυμῶν μέχρις οὗ παρέλθῃ τὸ νέφος
by praying for him sincerely to God, by accepting his explanation, or by yourself healing him through such means, by reckoning yourself the cause of the trial, and by being longsuffering until the cloud passes by.
就是真誠地為他向神禱告,接受他的辯解,或藉此親自去撫慰他,把試煉的緣由算在自己身上,並恆忍等候,直到那烏雲過去。
1:1269⧉ ⤴︎
( κγ ) Μακρόθυμός ἐστιν ὁ τὸ τέλος ἐκδεχόμενος τοῦ πειρασμοῦ καὶ τὸ καύχημα τῆς καρτερίας ἀναμένων
(23) He is longsuffering who awaits the end of the trial and patiently expects the crown of endurance.
(二十三)凡等候試煉之結局、忍耐等待那堅忍之榮耀的,便是恆忍的人。

( κδ ) Ἀνὴρ μακρόθυμος , πολὺς ἐν φρονήσει , ὅτι πάντα τὰ συμβαίνοντα ἐπὶ τὸ τέλος ἀναφέρει κἀκεῖνο περιμένων ἀνέχεται τῶν λυπηρῶν
(24) A longsuffering man abounds in prudence, because he refers all that befalls him to the end, and awaiting that end he bears patiently with the grievous things.
(二十四)恆忍的人滿有明智,因為他將一切臨到的事都歸於那結局,並因等待那結局而堅忍承擔憂患。
1:1271⧉ ⤴︎
Τὸ δὲ τέλος ἐστὶ ζωὴ αἰώνιος , κατὰ τὸν θεῖον Ἀπόστολον·
And the end is eternal life, according to the divine Apostle;
按照那神聖的使徒所言,這結局就是永遠的生命;
1:1272⧉ ⤴︎
αὕτη δέ ἐστιν ἡ αἰώνιος ζωή , ἵνα γινώσκωσί σε τὸν μόνον ἀληθινὸν Θεὸν καὶ ὃν ἀπέστειλας Ἰησοῦν Χριστόν
"and this is eternal life, that they may know You, the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom You have sent."
「認識你獨一的真神,並你所差來的耶穌基督,這就是永遠的生命。」
1:1273⧉ ⤴︎
( κε ) Μὴ εὔκολος ἔσο ἐπὶ ἀποβολῇ πνευματικῆς ἀγάπης , διότι ἄλλη σωτηρίας ὁδὸς οὐχ ὑπολέλειπται ἐν ἀνθρώποις
(25) Do not be ready to cast away spiritual love, for no other way of salvation has been left to men.
(二十五)不要輕易拋棄屬靈的愛,因為在人中間,再沒有留下別的得救之路。
1:1274⧉ ⤴︎
( κστ ) Μὴ τὸν χθὲς πνευματικὸν ἀδελφὸν καὶ ἐνάρετον διὰ τὸ ἐν σοὶ σήμερον ἐξ ἐπηρείας τοῦ πονηροῦ ἐγγινόμενον μῖσος κρῖνε φαῦλον καὶ πονηρόν·
(26) Do not, because of the hatred that arises in you today through the spite of the evil one, judge as base and wicked the brother who yesterday was spiritual and virtuous;
(二十六)不要因今日藉惡者的詭計在你裡面所生的恨惡,便將那昨日還是屬靈又有德行的弟兄判為卑劣邪惡之人;
1:1275⧉ ⤴︎
ἀλλὰ διὰ τῆς μακροθυμούσης ἀγάπης τὰ (≡__≡> χθεσινὰ καλὰ λογιζόμενος τὸ σήμερον μῖσος τῆς ψυχῆς ἀπόβαλλε
but through longsuffering love, reckoning his goodness of yesterday, cast away from your soul the hatred of today.
倒要藉著恆忍的愛,思念他昨日的美善,將今日的恨惡從你的魂中除去。
1:1276⧉ ⤴︎
( κζ ) Μὴ ὃν ἐπῄνεις χθὲς ὡς καλὸν καὶ ἐνεκωμίαζες ὡς ἐνάρετον , σήμερον ὡς φαῦλον καὶ πονηρὸν κακολογήσῃς , διὰ τὴν σὴν ἐξ ἀγάπης εἰς μῖσος μεταβολὴν τὸν τοῦ ἀδελφοῦ ψόγον ἀπολογίαν τοῦ ἐν σοὶ πονηροῦ μίσους ποιούμενος·
(27) Do not, the one whom yesterday you praised as good and extolled as virtuous, today speak ill of as base and wicked—making your brother's reproach the excuse for the evil hatred within you, because of your own change from love to hatred;
(二十七)那昨日你還稱讚為善、頌揚為有德行的人,今日不要把他毀謗為卑劣邪惡,藉指責弟兄來為你裡面那邪惡的恨惡找藉口,只因你自己從愛轉為恨;
1:1277⧉ ⤴︎
ἀλλὰ τοῖς αὐτοῖς ἐγκωμίοις ἐπίμεινον , κἆν ἔτι ὑπὸ τῆς λύπης κεκράτησαι , καὶ εἰς τὴν αὐτὴν σωτήριον ἀγάπην εὐχερῶς ἐπανέρχῃ
but continue in the same praises, even if you are still held fast by grief, and you will readily return to the same saving love.
倒要持守同樣的稱讚,縱使你仍被憂傷所轄制,你也必輕易地回轉到那同一的拯救之愛。
1:1278⧉ ⤴︎
(κη ) Μὴ τὸν συνήθη τοῦ ἀδελφοῦ ἔπαινον διὰ τὴν ἔτι ἔν σοι πρὸς αὐτὸν ὑπάρχουσαν κεκρυμμένην λύπην ἐν τῇ τῶν λοιπῶν ἀδελφῶν συντυχίᾳ νοθεύσῃς , συμπαραμίσγων τοῖς λόγοις λεληθότως τὸν ψόγον·
(28) Do not, in the company of the other brethren, adulterate your customary praise of your brother because of the grief still hidden in you against him, secretly mingling reproach into your words;
(二十八)不要在與其餘弟兄相聚時,因你裡面仍向他暗藏的憂傷,便摻雜污染你慣常對他的稱讚,暗暗將指責混入你的言語中;
1:1279⧉ ⤴︎
ἀλλὰ καθαρῷ τῷ ἐπαίνῳ ἐν τῇ συντυχίᾳ χρῆσαι καὶ γνησίως ὑπὲρ αὐτοῦ ὡς ὑπὲρ σαυτοῦ προσεύχου καὶ τοῦ ὀλεθρίου μίσους τάχιστα ἀπαλλάττῃ
but use pure praise in the company, and sincerely pray for him as for yourself, and you will most swiftly be delivered from that destructive hatred.
倒要在相聚中用純潔的稱讚,並真誠地為他禱告如同為你自己禱告,你便必極快地從那毀滅性的恨惡中得釋放。

οὐ μισῶ τὸν ἀδελφόν , τὴν μνήμην αὐτοῦ ἀποστρεφόμενος·
"I do not hate my brother," you say, while turning away from the very remembrance of him.
你說:「我並不恨我的弟兄」,卻又轉離對他的記念。

ἀλλὰ ἄκουσον Μωϋσέως λέγοντος·
But listen to Moses, who says:

Μὴ μισήσῃς τὸν ἀδελφόν σου τῇ διανοίᾳ σου·
"You shall not hate your brother in your heart;
「不可心裡恨你的弟兄;
1:1283⧉ ⤴︎
ἐλεγμῷ ἐλέγξεις τὸν ἀδελφόν σου καὶ οὐ λήψῃ δι αὐτὸν ἁμαρτίαν
you shall surely reprove your brother, and you shall not incur sin on his account."
總要指責你的弟兄,免得因他擔當罪過。」
1:1284⧉ ⤴︎
(λ ) Κἂν ὁ ἀδελφὸς τυχὸν πειραζόμενος ἐπιμείνῃ κακολογῶν σε , ἀλλὰ σύ γε μὴ ἐξενεχθῇς τῆς ἀγαπητικῆς καταστάσεως , τοῦ αὐτοῦ πονηροῦ δαίμονος ἀνεχόμενος ἐνοχλοῦντος κατὰ διάνοιαν
30. Even if your brother, being tempted, persists in speaking ill of you, do not for your part be cast out of your loving disposition, while you endure the same evil demon troubling you in your thoughts.
三十、即使你的弟兄受了試探,仍不斷惡言毀謗你,你卻不可因此被逐出愛的境界,當忍耐那同一個惡魔在心思中的攪擾。
1:1285⧉ ⤴︎
Οὐκ ἐξενεχθήσῃ δὲ ταύτης , ἐὰν λοιδορούμενος εὐλογήσῃς , ἐὰν δυσφημούμενος εὐφημήσῃς , ἐὰν ἐπιβουλευόμενος εὐνοήσῃς·
And you will not be cast out of it if, when reviled, you bless; when slandered, you speak well; when plotted against, you show goodwill.
你若被辱罵而祝福、被毀謗而稱讚、被陰謀算計而仍以善意相待,就不會被逐出這境界;
1:1286⧉ ⤴︎
αὕτη ἐστὶν ἡ ὁδὸς τῆς κατὰ Χριστὸν φιλοσοφίας καὶ ὁ μὴ ταύτην ὁδεύων οὐ συναυλίζεται αὐτῷ
This is the way of the philosophy that is according to Christ, and whoever does not travel this way does not dwell together with Him.
這就是按著基督的哲學之道路;凡不走這道路的,就不能與祂同住。
1:1287⧉ ⤴︎
( λα ) Μὴ ὡς εὐνοοῦντας λογίζου τοὺς λόγους σοι φέροντας λύπην (≡__ > ἐν σοὶ καὶ μῖσος πρὸς τὸν ἀδελφὸν ἐργαζομένους , κἂν ἀληθεύειν δοκῶσιν·
31. Do not regard as well-disposed toward you those who bring you words that produce grief in you and hatred toward your brother, even if they seem to be speaking the truth;
三十一、那些向你帶來言語、使你心生憂傷並對弟兄生出恨意的人,縱然他們似乎說的是實話,也不要把他們當作懷善意的人;
1:1288⧉ ⤴︎
ἀλλ ὡς θανατοῦντας ὄφεις τοὺς τοιούτους ἀποστρέφου , ἵνα κἀκείνους τοῦ κακολογεῖν ἀνακόψῃς καὶ τὴν σεαυτοῦ ψυχὴν πονηρίας ἀπαλλάξῃς
but turn away from such people as from death-dealing serpents, so that you may both check them from their evil-speaking and deliver your own soul from wickedness.
倒要躲避這等人,如同躲避致命的毒蛇,好叫你既制止他們惡言毀謗,又救你自己的靈魂脫離邪惡。
1:1289⧉ ⤴︎
(λβ ) Μὴ λόγοις δι αἰνιγμάτων τὸν ἀδελφὸν κεντήσῃς , ἵνα μὴ τὰ ὅμοια παρ αὐτοῦ ἀντιδεχόμενος τὴν τῆς ἀγάπης διάθεσιν ἐξ ἀμφοτέρων ἀπελάσῃς·
32. Do not prick your brother with words by way of veiled insinuations, lest, receiving the like in return from him, you drive away the disposition of love from you both;
三十二、不可用隱晦影射的言語刺傷你的弟兄,免得你從他那裡也受到同樣的對待,以致把愛的心意從你們雙方驅逐出去;
1:1290⧉ ⤴︎
ἀλλὰ μετὰ παρρησίας ἀγαπητικῆς ὕπαγε ἔλεγξον αὐτόν , ἵνα τὰς αἰτίας τῆς λύπης λύσας ταραχῆς καὶ λύπης ἀμφοτέρους ἀπαλλάξῃς
but go with loving frankness and reprove him, so that, having resolved the causes of grief, you may deliver both of you from disturbance and grief.
倒要帶著愛的坦誠,去指責他,好叫你既解除了憂傷的緣由,就使你們雙方都脫離擾亂與憂傷。
1:1291⧉ ⤴︎
( λγ ) Ἐρεύνησον τὴν συνείδησιν μετὰ πάσης ἀκριβείας , μήποτε τῇ σῇ αἰτίᾳ ὁ ἀδελφὸς οὐ διηλλάγη·
33. Examine your conscience with all exactness, lest it be through your own fault that your brother was not reconciled;
三十三、要極其精確地察驗你的良心,免得你的弟兄沒有與你和好,竟是出於你自己的緣故;
1:1292⧉ ⤴︎
καὶ μὴ παραλογίζου ταύτην τὰ κρυπτά σου γινώσκουσαν καὶ κατηγοροῦσάν σου ἐν τῷ καιρῷ τῆς ἐξόδου καὶ ἐν καιρῷ δὲ προσευχῆς πρόσκομμά σοι γινομένην
and do not deceive your conscience, which knows your hidden things and accuses you at the time of departure and becomes a stumbling-block to you at the time of prayer.
不可欺哄你的良心,因它知道你隱密的事,並要在你離世的時候控告你,又在禱告的時候成為你的絆腳石。
1:1293⧉ ⤴︎
( λδ ) Μὴ μνημόνευε ἐν τῷ καιρῷ τῆς εἰρήνης τῶν ἐν τῷ καιρῷ τῆς λύπης ὑπὸ τοῦ ἀδελφοῦ λεχθέντων , κἄν τε κατὰ πρόσωπον τὰ λυπηρὰ ἐρρέθῃ κἄν τε πρὸς ἄλλον περί σου καὶ μετὰ ταῦτα ἤκουσας·
34. Do not, at the time of peace, call to mind the things said by your brother at the time of grief, whether the grievous things were spoken to your face or to another about you and you heard of them afterward;
三十四、在和睦的時候,不要記念你弟兄在憂傷時所說的話,無論那傷人的話是當面對你說的,或是向別人論到你、你事後才聽見的;
1:1294⧉ ⤴︎
ἵνα μὴ τῶν λογισμῶν τῆς μνησικακίας ἀνεχόμενος εἰς τὸ ὀλέθριον μῖσος τοῦ ἀδελφοῦ ὑποστρέψῃς
lest, by entertaining thoughts of resentment, you slip back into a destructive hatred of your brother.
免得你因容讓記恨的思念,就轉回到對弟兄那毀滅性的恨惡裡去。
1:1295⧉ ⤴︎
(λε ) Οὐ δύναται ψυχὴ λογικὴ πρὸς ἄνθρωπον μῖσος τρέφουσα πρὸς τὸν Θεὸν εἰρηνεῦσαι , τὸν τῶν ἐντολῶν δοτῆρα
35. A rational soul that nourishes hatred toward a person cannot be at peace with God, the giver of the commandments.
三十五、一個理性的靈魂,若懷著對人的恨意,就不能與那賜命令的神和睦。
1:1296⧉ ⤴︎
Ἐὰν γάρ , φησί , μὴ ἀφῆτε τοῖς ἀνθρώποις τὰ παραπτώματα αὐτῶν , οὐδὲ ὁ Πατὴρ ὑμῶν ὁ οὐράνιος ἀφήσει ὑμῖν τὰ παραπτώματα ὑμῶν
"For," He says, "if you do not forgive men their trespasses, neither will your heavenly Father forgive you your trespasses."
祂說:「你們若不饒恕人的過犯,你們的天父也必不饒恕你們的過犯。」
1:1297⧉ ⤴︎
Εἰ δὲ ἐκεῖνος εἰρηνεύειν οὐ θέλει , ἀλλὰ σύ γε σεαυτὸν ( __ > ἀπὸ μίσους φύλαξον , προσευχόμενος ὑπὲρ αὐτοῦ γνησίως καὶ μὴ κακολογῶν αὐτὸν πρός τινα
And if that person is unwilling to be at peace, yet you for your part keep yourself from hatred, praying for him sincerely and not speaking ill of him to anyone.
那人若不願和睦,你卻要保守自己脫離恨惡,為他誠心禱告,並不向任何人惡言毀謗他。

( λστ )Ἡ τῶν ἁγίων ἀγγέλων ἄφραστος εἰρήνη ταῖς δυσὶ ταύταις κεκράτηται διαθέσεσι·
36. The ineffable peace of the holy angels is held fast by these two dispositions:
三十六、眾聖天使那不可言喻的平安,是被這兩種心意所持守的:

τῇ τε πρὸς τὸν Θεὸν καὶ τῇ πρὸς ἀλλήλους ἀγάπῃ·
by love toward God and by love toward one another;
就是向神的愛和彼此相愛的愛;

ὁμοίως δὲ καὶ πάντων τῶν ἀπ αἰῶνος ἁγίων
and likewise also the peace of all the saints from the beginning of the ages.
亙古以來眾聖徒的平安也是如此。

Παγκάλως οὖν εἴρηται ὑπὸ τοῦ Σωτῆρος ἡμῶν ὅτι ἐν ταύταις ταῖς δυσὶν ἐντολαῖς ὅλος ὁ νόμος καὶ οἱ προφῆται κρέμανται
Most excellently, therefore, was it said by our Savior that on these two commandments hang all the Law and the Prophets.
所以我們的救主說得極美:這兩條誡命是律法和先知一切道理的總綱。

37. Do not be self-pleasing, and you will not be a hater of your brother;
三十七、不要自我喜悅,你就不會恨弟兄;

and do not be a lover of self, and you will be a lover of God.

38. If you have chosen to live together with spiritual brothers, renounce your own self-will at the very door;
三十八、你既選擇與屬靈的弟兄共同生活,就當在門口便棄絕你自己的意願;

οὐ μὴ γὰρ ἑτέρῳ τρόπῳ εἰρηνεῦσαι δυνήσῃ οὔτε πρὸς τὸν Θεὸν οὔτε πρὸς τοὺς συζῶντας
for in no other way will you be able to be at peace, neither with God nor with those who live with you.
因為除此以外,你斷不能與神和睦,也不能與同住的人和睦。

( λθ )Ὁ τελείαν ἀγάπην κτήσασθαι δυνηθεὶς καὶ ὅλον τὸν βίον αὐτοῦ πρὸς ταύτην ῥυθμίσας , οὗτος λέγει Κύριον Ἰησοῦν ἐν Πνεύματι ἁγίῳ·
39. He who has been able to acquire perfect love and has ordered his whole life toward it, this is the one who says "Lord Jesus" in the Holy Spirit;
三十九、那能得著完全的愛、又將自己一生都按此調整的人,這人乃是在聖靈裡稱耶穌為主的;

καὶ ἐκ τοῦ ἐναντίου , τὰ ἐναντία δηλονότι
and the contrary man, clearly, says the contrary things.
反之,那相反的人,顯然也說相反的話。

40. Love toward God ever loves to give wings to the intellect for divine converse;
四十、向神的愛總是樂意給心智插上翅膀,飛向與神的交通;

ἡ δὲ εἰς τὸν πλησίον ἀεὶ καλὰ λογίζεσθαι περὶ αὐτοῦ παρασκευάζει
while love toward one's neighbor ever disposes one to think well of him.
向鄰舍的愛則總是使人預備好往美善處想他。

( μα ) Τοῦ ἔτι δόξαν ἀγαπῶντος κενὴνἤ τινι τῶν ὑλικῶν πραγμάτων προσκειμένου ἐστὶ τὸ πρὸς ἀνθρώπους λυπεῖσθαι διὰ πρόσκαιρα ἢ μνησικακεῖν αὐτοῖς ἢ μῖσος ἔχειν πρὸς αὐτοὺς ἢ λογισμοῖς δουλεύειν αἰσχροῖς·
41. It belongs to one who still loves empty glory or is attached to some material thing to be grieved with men over transient things, or to bear them resentment, or to hold hatred toward them, or to be enslaved to shameful thoughts;
四十一、那仍愛虛榮、或留戀某些物質之物的人,才會為著暫時的事與人憂傷,或記恨他們,或對他們懷恨,或受制於可恥的思念;

τῆς δὲ φιλοθέου ψυχῆς πάντῃ ταῦτα ἀλλότρια
but from the soul that loves God all these things are altogether alien.
但這一切,與那愛神的靈魂完全無關。

( μβ ) Ὅταν μηδὲν εἴπῃς μηδὲ πράξῃς αἰσχρὸν κατὰ διάνοιαν καὶ ( __ > ὅταν τῷ ζημιώσαντι ἢ κακολογήσαντι μὴ μνησικάκῃς καὶ ὅταν ἐν τῷ καιρῷ τῆς προσευχῆς ἄϋλον καὶ ἀνείδεον ἀεὶ ἔχῃς τὸν νοῦν , τότε γνῶθι ὅτι ἔφθασας εἰς τὸ μέτρον τῆς ἀπαθείας καὶ τῆς τελείας ἀγάπης
42. When you say and do nothing shameful in your mind, and when you bear no resentment against the one who has wronged you or spoken ill of you, and when at the time of prayer you ever keep your intellect immaterial and formless, then know that you have attained to the measure of dispassion and of perfect love.
四十二、當你在心思中不說不行任何可恥的事,當你對那虧負你或惡言毀謗你的人不再記恨,當你在禱告的時候總保守你的心智無質料、無形像時,那時你就知道,你已達到了無情慾與完全之愛的程度。

43. It is no small struggle to be rid of vainglory;

and one is rid of it through the hidden practice of the virtues and through more frequent prayer.
人乃是藉著隱密地操練眾德行、並更加頻繁的禱告,才得以脫離。

Σημεῖον δὲ τῆς ἀπαλλαγῆς , τὸ μηκέτι μνησικακεῖν τῷ κακολογήσαντι ἢ κακολογοῦντι
And the sign of being rid of it is no longer to bear resentment against the one who has spoken or speaks ill of you.
脫離的記號,就是不再記恨那曾惡言毀謗、或正在惡言毀謗你的人。

44. If you wish to be just, assign to each of the parts within you what is according to its worth;

to the rational part of the soul, readings and spiritual contemplations and prayer;
給靈魂的理性部分,當分派誦讀、屬靈的默觀與禱告;

τῷ δὲ θυμικῷ , ἀγάπην πνευματικὴν τὴν τῷ μίσει ἀντικειμένην·
to the incensive part, spiritual love, which is opposed to hatred;
給血氣(忿怒)部分,當分派那與恨惡相反的屬靈之愛;

τῷ δὲ ἐπιθυμητικῷ , σωφροσύνην καὶ ἐγκράτειαν·
to the desiring part, temperance and self-control;
給情慾(貪欲)部分,當分派貞潔與節制;

τῷ δὲ σαρκίῳ , διατροφὴν καὶ σκεπάσματα , τὰ μόνα ἀναγκαιότατα
and to the flesh, nourishment and clothing, only the most necessary things.

45. The intellect acts according to nature when it has the passions in subjection, contemplates the inner principles of beings, and abides with God.
四十五、心智按本性運作,乃是當它使情慾降服、默觀萬有的邏各斯、並與神同住的時候。

(μστ ) Ὥσπερ ὑγίεια καὶ νόσος πρὸς τὸ σῶμα θεωρεῖται τοῦ ζώου καὶ φῶς καὶ σκότος πρὸς τὸν ὀφθαλμόν , οὕτως ἀρετὴ καὶ κακία πρὸς τὴν ψυχὴν καὶ γνῶσις καὶ ἀγνωσία πρὸς τὸν νοῦν
46. As health and sickness are considered in relation to the body of a living creature, and light and darkness in relation to the eye, so virtue and vice in relation to the soul, and knowledge and ignorance in relation to the intellect.
四十六、正如健康與疾病是相對於生物的身體而言、光明與黑暗是相對於眼睛而言,照樣,德行與罪惡是相對於靈魂而言,屬靈知識與無知是相對於心智而言。

And the commandments separate the intellect from the passions;

the doctrines lead it into the knowledge of beings;

and faith into the contemplation of the Holy Trinity.

48. Some of those who strive merely repel impassioned thoughts;
四十八、那些爭戰的人中,有的僅僅擊退帶情慾的思念;

οἱ δὲ καὶ αὐτὰ τὰ πάθη περικόπτουσι
but others cut off the passions themselves as well.
另有的則連情慾本身也一併剪除。

Καὶ ἀποκρούεται μέν τις , οἷον ἢ ψαλμῳδίᾳ ἢ ( __ > προσευχῇ ἢ μετεωρισμῷ ἢ ἄλλῳ τινὶ τοπικῷ περισπασμῷ·
And one repels them, for instance, by psalmody or by prayer or by lifting up the mind or by some other local distraction;
人擊退這些思念,或藉著詩歌、或藉著禱告、或藉著心思的高舉、或藉著某種轉移之事;

ἐκκόπτει δὲ τὰ πάθη τῶν πραγμάτων ἐκείνων περιφρονῶν πρὸς ἅπερ αὐτὰ κέκτηται
but one cuts off the passions by despising those very things to which they are attached.
人剪除情慾,則是藉著輕看那些情慾所依附的事物。

49. The things to which the passions are attached are these: for instance, woman, money, glory, and the like.
四十九、情慾所依附的事物乃是這些,例如:女人、錢財、榮耀,以及其餘的。

Καὶ τῆς μὲν γυναικὸς τότε δύναταί τις περιφρονεῖν , ὅτε καὶ μετὰ τὴν ἀναχώρησιν τὸ σῶμα ὡς δεῖ δι ἐγκρατείας μαραίνει·
And one is able to despise woman then, when even after withdrawal one withers the body as one ought through self-control;
人能輕看女人,乃是當他即使在退隱之後,仍照所當的藉著節制使身體枯乾的時候;
1:1334⧉ ⤴︎
τῶν δὲ χρημάτων , ὅτε πείθει τὸν λογισμὸν ἐν παντὶ τῇ αὐταρκείᾳ στοιχῆσαι·
money, when one persuades one's reasoning to be content with self-sufficiency in everything;
輕看錢財,乃是當他說服自己的理性,在凡事上以知足自給為滿足的時候;

τῆς δὲ δόξης , ὅτε τὴν κρυπτὴν ἀγαπήσει τῶν ἀρετῶν ἐργασίαν καὶ Θεῷ μόνῳ φαινομένην·
glory, when one comes to love the hidden practice of the virtues, manifest to God alone;
輕看榮耀,乃是當他愛上那隱密的、惟獨向神顯現的操練眾德行之工的時候;

καὶ ἐπὶ τῶν ἄλλων ὡσαύτως
and likewise in the case of the others.
對其餘的事物,也是照樣。

Ὁ δὲ τούτων περιφρονῶν οὐδὲ εἰς μῖσός τινος ἔρχεταί ποτε
And he who despises these things never comes to hatred of anyone.
凡輕看這些事物的人,就永不會落到恨惡任何人的地步。

( ν )Ὁ μὲν τοῖς πράγμασιν ἀποταξάμενος , οἷον τῇ γυναικὶ καὶ τοῖς χρήμασι καὶ τοῖς ἑξῆς , τὸν ἔξω ἄνθρωπον ἐποίησε μοναχόν , οὔπω δὲ καὶ τὸν ἔσω
50. He who has renounced things, such as woman and money and the rest, has made the outer man a monk, but not yet also the inner.
五十、那已棄絕了諸事物(如女人、錢財,以及其餘的)的人,乃是使外在的人作了修士,卻還未使內在的人也作修士。
1:1339⧉ ⤴︎
Ὁ δὲ τοῖς τούτων ἐμπαθέσι νοήμασι , τὸν ἔσω ἄνθρωπον , ὅ ἐστιν ὁ νοῦς
But he who has renounced the impassioned mental representations of these things has made the inner man a monk, that is, the intellect.
惟有那已棄絕對這些事物之帶情慾意念的人,才是使內在的人,就是心智,作了修士。

ἔξω ἄνθρωπον εὐκόλως τις ποιεῖ μοναχόν , μόνον ἐὰν θελήσῃ·
One easily makes the outer man a monk, if only he wills it;
人很容易就使外在的人作修士,只要他願意;

οὐκ ὀλίγος δὲ ἀγὼν τὸν ἔσω ἄνθρωπον ποιῆσαι μοναχόν
but it is no small struggle to make the inner man a monk.

(να ) Τίς ἄρα ἐστὶν ἐν τῇ γενεᾷ ταύτῃ ὁ παντάπασιν ἀπαλλαγεὶς ἐμπαθῶν νοημάτων καὶ τῆς καθαρᾶς καὶ ἀΰλου καταξιωθεὶς προσευχῆς , ὅπερ ἐστὶ σημεῖον τοῦ ἔνδον μοναχοῦ; . ( νβ ) Πολλὰ πάθη ἐν ταῖς ψυχαῖς ἡμῶν κέκρυπται·
51. Who, then, in this generation, is the one who has been altogether rid of impassioned mental representations and has been deemed worthy of pure and immaterial prayer—which is the sign of the inner monk? 52. Many passions are hidden in our souls;
五十一、那麼,在這世代中,有誰是完全脫離了帶情慾的意念、並蒙恩配得那純潔無質料之禱告的人呢?這正是內在修士的記號。五十二、許多情慾隱藏在我們的靈魂裡;

τότε δὲ ἐλέγχονται , ὅταν τὰ πράγματα ἀναφαίνωνται
and they are then exposed when the things themselves come into view.
惟當那些事物顯現出來時,這些情慾才被揭露。

ἐὰν δὲ ἀναφανῶσι τὰ πράγματα , εὐθὺς τὰ πάθη τὸν νοῦν περισπῶσι
And if the things come into view, immediately the passions distract the intellect.

( νδ ) Μὴ νόμιζε τελείαν ἔχειν ἀπάθειαν , τοῦ πράγματος μὴ παρόντος
54. Do not suppose that you have perfect dispassion while the object is not present.
五十四、當那對象不在眼前時,不要以為你已有完全的無情慾。

Ὅταν δὲ ἀναφανῇ καὶ μείνῃς ἀκίνητος πρός τε τὸ πρᾶγμα καὶ τὴν μετὰ ταῦτα μνήμην αὐτοῦ , τότε γνῶθι σεαυτὸν τῶν ὅρων αὐτῆς ἐπιβεβηκέναι
But when it comes into view and you remain unmoved both toward the object and toward the memory of it afterward, then know that you have set foot within the bounds of dispassion.
惟當它顯現出來,而你對那對象、並對其後對它的記念都仍不動心時,那時你就知道,你已踏進了無情慾的境界之內。

Πλὴν μηδὲ οὕτω καταφρονήσῃς , διότι ἀρετὴ μὲν χρονίζουσα νεκροῖ τὰ πάθη , ἀμελουμένη δὲ πάλιν ἐγείρει αὐτά
Nevertheless, do not even so be careless, because virtue that endures over time mortifies the passions, but when neglected it rouses them again.
然而,即便如此也不可疏忽,因為德行若持久,就治死情慾,若被忽略,就又重新挑起情慾。

(νε )Ὁ ἀγαπῶν τὸν Χριστόν , πάντως καὶ μιμεῖται αὐτὸν κατὰ δύναμιν
55. He who loves Christ assuredly also imitates Him to the best of his ability.
五十五、那愛基督的人,必定也盡其所能地效法祂。

Οἷον ὁ Χριστὸς τοὺς ἀνθρώπους εὐεργετῶν οὐκ ἐπαύσατο καὶ ἀχαριστούμενος καὶ βλασφημούμενος ἐμακροθύμει καὶ τυπτόμενος ὑπ αὐτῶν καὶ φονευόμενος ὑπέμενε , μηδενὶ τὸ σύνολον τὸ κακὸν λογιζόμενος
For example, Christ did not cease from benefiting men, and when met with ingratitude and blasphemy He was longsuffering, and when struck by them and put to death He endured, reckoning the evil against no one at all.
例如,基督施恩給人從不止息,受人忘恩、受人褻瀆時祂恆忍,被他們毆打、被殺害時祂忍耐,全然不將惡歸於任何人。
1:1350⧉ ⤴︎
Ταῦτα δὲ τὰ τρία εἰσὶ τὰ ἔργα τῆς εἰς τὸν πλησίον ἀγάπης , ὧν χωρὶς ὁ λέγων ἀγαπᾶν τὸν Χριστὸν ἢ τῆς βασιλείας αὐτοῦ τυχεῖν ἑαυτὸν ἀπατᾷ·
And these three are the works of love toward one's neighbor, without which the one who claims to love Christ or to attain His kingdom deceives himself;
這三樣乃是向鄰舍之愛的工作,人若沒有這些,卻自稱愛基督、或要得著祂的國,就是自欺;
1:1351⧉ ⤴︎
Οὐ γὰρ ὁ λέγων μοι , φησί , Κύριε Κύριε , οὗτος εἰσελεύσεται εἰς τὴν βασιλείαν τῶν οὐρανῶν , ἀλλ ὁ ποιῶν τὸ θέλημα τοῦ Πατρός μου·
"For not everyone," He says, "who says to Me, 'Lord, Lord,' shall enter the kingdom of heaven, but he who does the will of My Father."
祂說:「凡稱呼我『主啊,主啊』的人,不能都進天國,惟獨遵行我父旨意的人,才能進去。」

Ὁ ἀγαπῶν ἐμὲ τὰς ἐντολάς μου τηρήσει·
"He who loves Me will keep My commandments."
「愛我的,就必遵守我的命令。」

( νστ ) Ἅπας ὁ σκοπὸς τῶν ἐντολῶν τοῦ Σωτῆρος , ἵνα ἀκρασίας καὶ μίσους τὸν νοῦν ἐλευθερώσῃ καὶ εἰς τὴν αὐτοῦ ἀγάπην καὶ τοῦ πλησίον ἀγάγῃ , ἐξ ὧν τίκτεται τὸ φέγγος τῆς κατ ἐνέργειαν ἁγίας γνώσεως
56. The whole aim of the Savior's commandments is to free the intellect from incontinence and hatred and to lead it into love of Him and of one's neighbor, from which is born the radiance of holy knowledge in actual operation.
五十六、救主一切誡命的目的,乃是要使心智脫離放縱與恨惡,並領它進入對祂與對鄰舍的愛,由此就生出那實際運行之聖潔屬靈知識的光輝。
1:1354⧉ ⤴︎
( νζ ) Μερικῆς γνώσεως παρὰ τοῦ Θεοῦ καταξιωθείς , μὴ ἀμέλει ἀγάπης καὶ ἐγκρατείας·
57. Having been deemed worthy by God of partial knowledge, do not neglect love and self-control;
五十七、你既蒙神看為配得部分的屬靈知識,就不可忽略愛與節制;
1:1355⧉ ⤴︎
αὗται γὰρ τὸ παθητικὸν μέρος τῆς ψυχῆς ( __ > ἐκκαθαίρουσαι τὴν ἐπὶ τὴν γνῶσιν ὁδὸν ἀεί σοι εὐτρεπίζουσιν
for these, by purifying the passible part of the soul, ever make ready for you the way to knowledge.
因為這些藉著潔淨靈魂中受情慾影響的部分,就常為你預備通往屬靈知識的道路。

( νη ) Ὁδὸς ἐπὶ τὴν γνῶσίν ἐστιν ἀπάθεια καὶ ταπείνωσις , ὧν χωρὶς οὐδεὶς ὄψεται τὸν Κύριον
58. The way to knowledge is dispassion and humility, without which no one shall see the Lord.
五十八、通往屬靈知識的道路,乃是無情慾與謙卑,人非有這些,就不能見主。

(νθ ) Ἐπειδὴ ἡ γνῶσις φυσιοῖ , ἡ δὲ ἀγάπη οἰκοδομεῖ , σύζευξον τῇ γνώσει τὴν ἀγάπην καὶ ἔσῃ ἄτυφος καὶ πνευματικὸς οἰκοδόμος καὶ σεαυτὸν οἰκοδομῶν καὶ πάντας τοὺς ἐγγίζοντάς σοι
59. Since knowledge puffs up, but love builds up, join love to knowledge, and you will be free from conceit and a spiritual builder, building up both yourself and all who draw near to you.
五十九、既然屬靈知識叫人自高自大,惟有愛能造就人,你就當把愛與知識聯結,這樣你便沒有虛妄,成為屬靈的建造者,既建造自己,也建造一切親近你的人。

( ξ ) Ἐντεῦθεν ἡ ἀγάπη οἰκοδομεῖ , ἐπειδὴ οὐδὲ φθονεῖ οὐδὲ πρὸς τοὺς φθονοῦντας πικραίνεται οὐδὲ τὸ φθονούμενον δημοσιεύει ἐπιδεικτικῶς οὐδὲ λογίζεται ἑαυτὸν ἤδη κατειληφέναι καὶ ὧν δὲ οὐκ οἶδεν ὁμολογεῖ ἀνερυθριάστως τὴν ἄγνοιαν·
60. Hence love builds up, because it neither envies, nor is embittered against those who envy, nor parades ostentatiously the thing envied, nor reckons that it has already attained, and confesses without shame its ignorance of the things it does not know;
六十、愛之所以造就人,乃因它既不嫉妒,也不對嫉妒的人懷苦毒,也不誇耀地張揚那被人嫉妒之物,也不以為自己已經得著了,並且毫不羞愧地承認自己對所不知之事的無知;

οὕτως οὖν τὸν νοῦν ἄτυφον ἀπεργάζεται καὶ προκόπτειν εἰς τὴν γνῶσιν ἀεὶ παρασκευάζει
thus, then, it renders the intellect free from conceit and ever prepares it to advance in knowledge.
如此,它就使心智脫離虛妄,並常預備它在屬靈知識上長進。

Self-conceit operates only inwardly,

but envy operates both inwardly and outwardly:
但嫉妒卻在內裡和外面都作工:

καὶ ἔνδοθεν μέν , πρὸς τοὺς ἔχοντας γνῶσιν·
inwardly, toward those who possess spiritual knowledge,
在內裡,是針對那些擁有屬靈知識的人;

ἔξωθεν δέ , ἀπὸ τῶν ἐχόντων
and outwardly, from those who possess it.
在外面,則是出於那些擁有屬靈知識的人。

Ἡ οὖν ἀγάπη τὰ τρία ἀνατρέπει·
Love, then, overturns all three:
因此,愛推翻了這三者:

τὴν μὲν οἴησιν , ἐπειδὴ οὐ φυσιοῦται·
self-conceit, since love is not puffed up;
自以為是,因為愛是不自誇的;

τὸν δὲ ἔνδοθεν φθόνον , ἐπειδὴ οὐ ζηλοῖ·
inward envy, since love is not jealous;
內裡的嫉妒,因為愛是不嫉妒的;

τὸν δὲ ἔξωθεν , ἐπειδὴ μακροθυμεῖ καὶ χρηστεύεται
and outward envy, since love is patient and kind.
以及外面的嫉妒,因為愛是恆忍且恩慈的。

Ἀνάγκη οὖν τὸν ἔχοντα γνῶσιν προσλαβέσθαι καὶ τὴν ἀγάπην , ἵνα ἄτρωτον τὸν νοῦν ἐν παντὶ διαφυλάττῃ
It is necessary, therefore, that the one who possesses spiritual knowledge also acquire love, so that he may keep his intellect unwounded in all things,
所以,擁有屬靈知識的人也必須得著愛,好叫他在凡事上保守自己的心智不受傷害,

τριβόλοις τοὺς ὀφθαλμοὺς κατακεντοῦντος
lest envy pierce his eyes with thorns.
免得嫉妒用蒺藜刺透他的眼目。

(ξγ ) Μὴ ὅλην τὴν σχολήν σου περὶ τὴν σάρκα ἔχε , ἀλλὰ ὅρισον αὐτῇ τὴν κατὰ δύναμιν ἄσκησιν καὶ ὅλον τὸν νοῦν σου περὶ τὰ ἔνδον τρέψον·
63. Do not give all your leisure to the flesh; rather, appoint for it ascetic discipline according to your strength, and turn your whole intellect to the things within.
六十三、不要將你所有的閒暇都用在肉體上,乃要按你的能力為它定下節制操練,並將你全部的心智轉向內裡的事物。

Ἡ γὰρ σωματικὴ γυμνασία πρὸς ὀλίγον ἐστὶν ὠφέλιμος·
For bodily exercise profits little,
因為操練身體,益處還少;

ἡ δὲ εὐσέβεια πρὸς πάντα ἐστὶν ὠφέλιμος·
but godliness is profitable for all things.
惟獨敬虔,凡事都有益處。

(ξδ )Ὁ ἀδιαλείπτως περὶ τὰ ἔνδον τὰς διατριβὰς ποιούμενος σωφρονεῖ , μακροθυμεῖ , χρηστεύεται , ταπεινοφρονεῖ·
64. He who unceasingly occupies himself with the things within is self-controlled, patient, kind, and humble-minded;
六十四、那不住地專注於內裡之事的人,是自守的、恆忍的、恩慈的、心存謙卑的;

οὐ μόνον , ἀλλὰ καὶ θεωρεῖ καὶ θεολογεῖ καὶ προσεύχεται·
not only that, but he also contemplates, theologizes, and prays.
不僅如此,他還默觀、論述神學、並禱告。

καὶ τοῦτό ἐστιν ὃ λέγει ὁ Ἀπόστολος·
And this is what the Apostle means when he says:

He who does not know how to travel the spiritual road takes no thought of his impassioned thoughts, but gives all his leisure to the flesh; and either he indulges in gluttony and licentiousness, and grows sorrowful and angry and bears grudges, and thereby darkens his intellect, or else he practices asceticism beyond measure and clouds his understanding.
六十五、那不曉得如何行走屬靈道路的人,不留意他那些屬情慾的念頭,反倒將一切閒暇都用在肉體上;他或是貪食、放縱情慾,又憂愁、發怒、記恨,因而使心智昏暗;或是過度地操練苦行,以致攪渾了自己的悟性。

( ξστ ) Οὐδὲν τῶν ἐκ Θεοῦ εἰς χρῆσιν ἡμῖν δοθέντων ἀναιρεῖ ἡ Γραφή , ἀλλὰ τὴν ἀμετρίαν κολάζει καὶ τὴν ἀλογιστίαν διορθοῦται
66. Scripture abolishes none of the things given to us by God for our use, but it chastises excess and corrects what is unreasonable.
六十六、聖經並不廢除神所賜給我們使用的任何事物,乃是責罰過度,矯正不合理之處。

Οἷον οὐ κωλύει ἐσθίειν οὐδὲ παιδοποιεῖν οὐδὲ χρήματα ἔχειν καὶ ὀρθῶς διοικεῖν , ἀλλὰ κωλύει γαστριμαργεῖν , πορνεύειν καὶ τὰ ἑξῆς·
For instance, it does not forbid eating, or begetting children, or having money and managing it rightly; but it forbids gluttony, fornication, and the like.
例如,它不禁止吃飯、生養兒女、擁有錢財並善加管理;卻禁止貪食、淫亂,以及諸如此類的事。

ἀλλ οὐδὲ τὸ νοεῖν ταῦτα κωλύει·
Nor even does it forbid thinking about these things;

for it was for this very purpose that they came into being.

67. Some of the things we do according to God are done in accordance with a commandment;

τὰ δὲ οὐ κατ ἐντολήν , ἀλλ ὡς ἄν τις εἴποι , ( __ > καθ ἑκούσιον προσφοράν
others are not according to a commandment but are, as one might say, by way of voluntary offering.
另有些則不是按著誡命,而是,可以說,出於甘心的奉獻。

Οἷον κατ ἐντολὴν μέν , τὸ ἀγαπᾶν τὸν Θεὸν καὶ τὸν πλησίον , τὸ ἀγαπᾶν τοὺς ἐχθρούς , τὸ μὴ μοιχεύειν , μὴ φονεύειν καὶ τὰ λοιπά·
For example, according to a commandment are: to love God and one's neighbor, to love one's enemies, not to commit adultery, not to murder, and the rest;
例如,按著誡命的有:愛神和愛鄰舍、愛仇敵、不可姦淫、不可殺人,以及其餘的事;
1:1386⧉ ⤴︎
ἅτινα καὶ παραβαίνοντες κατακρινόμεθα
and when we transgress these, we are condemned.
我們若違犯這些,就被定罪。
1:1387⧉ ⤴︎
Οὐ κατ ἐντολὴν δέ , τὸ παρθενεύειν , ἡ ἀγαμία , ἡ ἀκτημοσύνη , ἡ ἀναχώρησις καὶ τὰ ἑξῆς·
But not according to a commandment are: to remain a virgin, celibacy, voluntary poverty, withdrawal from the world, and the like.
但不是按著誡命的有:守童身、獨身、甘心的清貧、退隱離世,以及諸如此類的事。

( ξη )Ὁ τὴν ἀγαμίαν τιμῶν ἢ παρθενίαν ἀναγκαίως ὀφείλει ἔχειν τὴν ὀσφῦν περιεζωσμένην καὶ τὸν λύχνον καιόμενον·
68. He who honors celibacy or virginity must of necessity keep his loins girded and his lamp burning:
六十八、那看重獨身或童身的人,必須束上腰,點著燈:

τὴν μὲν ὀσφῦν δι ἐγκρατείας , τὸν δὲ λύχνον διὰ προσευχῆς καὶ θεωρίας καὶ ἀγάπης πνευματικῆς
the loins by self-control, and the lamp by prayer, contemplation, and spiritual love.
束腰是藉著節制,點燈是藉著禱告、默觀和屬靈的愛。

( ξθ ) Τινὲς τῶν ἀδελφῶν ἐκτὸς ἑαυτοὺς εἶναι νομίζουσι τῶν τοῦ ἁγίου Πνεύματος χαρισμάτων·
69. Some of the brethren suppose that they have no share in the gifts of the Holy Spirit;
六十九、有些弟兄以為自己與聖靈的恩賜無分;
1:1391⧉ ⤴︎
οὐ γὰρ ἴσασι διὰ τὴν ἀμέλειαν τῆς τῶν ἐντολῶν ἐργασίας ὅτι ὁ τὴν εἰς Χριστὸν πίστιν ἀνόθευτον ἔχων πάντα τὰ θεῖα χαρίσματα συλλήβδην ἔχει ἐν ἑαυτῷ
for through their negligence in the practice of the commandments they do not know that he who has unadulterated faith in Christ has within himself, all together, all the divine gifts.
因為他們因疏忽於遵行誡命,不知道那對基督存著純正信心的人,已將一切屬神的恩賜全然包含在自己裡面。
1:1392⧉ ⤴︎
Ἐπειδὴ γὰρ τῆς εἰς αὐτὸν κατ ἐνέργειαν ἀγάπης διὰ τὴν ἀργίαν μακράν ἐσμεν , τῆς δεικνυούσης ἡμῖν τοὺς ἐν ἡμῖν θείους θησαυρούς , εἰκότως ἐκτὸς ἑαυτοὺς τῶν θείων νομίζομεν χαρισμάτων
For since, because of our idleness, we are far from active love toward him—the love that reveals to us the divine treasures within us—we naturally suppose ourselves to be without a share in the divine gifts.
因為我們既因怠惰,遠離了那對祂主動之愛——就是那向我們顯明我們裡面屬神珍寶的愛——便理所當然地以為自己與屬神的恩賜無分。

(ο ) Εἰ ὁ Χριστὸς ἐν ταῖς καρδίαις ἡμῶν κατοικεῖ διὰ τῆς πίστεως , κατὰ τὸν θεῖον Ἀπόστολον , πάντες δὲ οἱ θησαυροὶ τῆς σοφίας καὶ τῆς γνώσεως ἐν αὐτῷ εἰσιν ἀπόκρυφοι·
70. If Christ dwells in our hearts through faith, as the divine Apostle says, and all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge are hidden in him,
七十、若照著屬神的使徒所說,基督因著信住在我們心裡,而一切智慧和知識的寶藏都藏在祂裡面;
1:1394⧉ ⤴︎
πάντες ἄρα οἱ θησαυροὶ τῆς σοφίας καὶ τῆς γνώσεως ἐν ταῖς καρδίαις ἡμῶν εἰσιν ἀπόκρυφοι·
then all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge are hidden in our hearts;
那麼,一切智慧和知識的寶藏都藏在我們心裡;
1:1395⧉ ⤴︎
φανεροῦνται δὲ τῇ καρδίᾳ κατὰ τὴν ἀναλογίαν τῆς ἑκάστου διὰ τῶν ἐντολῶν καθάρσεως
and they are made manifest to the heart in proportion to each one's purification through the commandments.
並且它們向人心顯明的程度,是按著各人藉誡命所得潔淨的比例。

( __ >. (οα ) Οὗτός ἐστιν ὁ θησαυρὸς ὁ ἐν τῷ ἀγρῷ κεκρυμμένος τῆς καρδίας σου , ὃν οὔπω εὗρες διὰ τὴν ἀργίαν·
71. This is the treasure hidden in the field of your heart, which you have not yet found because of your idleness;
七十一、這就是藏在你心田裡的寶貝,你因著怠惰尚未尋得;
1:1397⧉ ⤴︎
εἰ γὰρ εὗρες , ἄρα ἂν πέπρακας πάντα καὶ ἐκτήσω τὸν ἀγρὸν τοῦτον
for had you found it, you would have sold all and bought that field.
因為你若尋得,就必變賣一切,買下那塊田。

Νῦν δὲ τὸν ἀγρὸν ἀφεὶς τὰ περὶ τὸν ἀγρὸν περιέπεις , ἐν οἷς οὐδὲν ἄλλο εὑρίσκεται πλὴν ἀκανθῶν καὶ τριβόλων
But as it is, having left the field itself, you busy yourself with the things around the field, in which nothing else is found but thorns and thistles.
但如今你撇下了那田地,反倒忙於田地周圍的事物,在其中除了荊棘和蒺藜以外,再無別的可尋。

Μακάριοι οἱ καθαροὶ τῇ καρδίᾳ , ὅτι αὐτοὶ τὸν Θεὸν ὄψονται·
72. "Blessed are the pure in heart, for they shall see God";
七十二、「清心的人有福了,因為他們必得見神」;

ἐπειδὴ αὐτὸς ἐν τῇ καρδίᾳ κέκρυπται τῶν εἰς αὐτὸν πιστευόντων
since he himself is hidden in the heart of those who believe in him.
因為祂自己就隱藏在那些信祂之人的心裡。

Τότε δὲ ὄψονται αὐτὸν καὶ τοὺς ἐν αὐτῷ θησαυρούς , ὅτε δι ἀγάπης καὶ ἐγκρατείας ἑαυτοὺς καθαίρουσι καὶ τοσούτῳ πλέον ὅσῳ τὴν κάθαρσιν ἐπιτείνουσι
They will then see him and the treasures in him, when they purify themselves through love and self-control; and the more they intensify their purification, the more fully will they see.
當他們藉著愛和節制潔淨自己時,就必看見祂以及在祂裡面的寶藏;他們越加深潔淨的工夫,就越能看見。

Πωλήσατε τὰ ὑπάρχοντα ὑμῶν καὶ δότε ἐλεημοσύνην καὶ ἰδοὺ πάντα ὑμῖν καθαρὰ ἔσται·
73. "Sell your possessions and give alms, and behold, all things shall be clean unto you";
七十三、「你們要變賣所有的賙濟人,看哪,凡物於你們就都潔淨了」;
1:1403⧉ ⤴︎
ὡς μηκέτι τοῖς περὶ τὸ σῶμα σχολαζόντων πράγμασιν , ἀλλὰ τὸν νοῦν καθαίρειν σπευδόντων ἀπὸ μίσους καὶ ἀκρασίας , ὃν καρδίαν ὀνομάζει ὁ Κύριος
so that we no longer busy ourselves with matters concerning the body, but hasten to purify the intellect from hatred and intemperance—which intellect the Lord calls the heart.
如此,我們就不再忙於有關身體的事,而是急切地將心智從仇恨和不節制中潔淨出來——主稱這心智為心。
1:1404⧉ ⤴︎
Ταῦτα γὰρ τὸν νοῦν ῥυποῦντα οὐκ ἐῶσι βλέπειν τὸν ἐν αὐτῷ κατοικοῦντα Κύριον διὰ τῆς χάριτος τοῦ ἁγίου Βαπτίσματος
For these things defile the intellect and do not allow it to behold the Lord who dwells within it through the grace of holy Baptism.
因為這些事玷污心智,不容它看見那藉著聖洗的恩典住在其中的主。

74. Scripture calls the virtues "ways";

and the greatest of all the virtues is love.
而一切美德中最大的乃是愛。

ἔτι καθ ὑπερβολὴν ὁδὸν ὑμῖν δείκνυμι·
"Yet I show you a still more excellent way";
「我還指示你們更超越的路」;
1:1408⧉ ⤴︎
ὡς καταφρονεῖν πείθουσαν τῶν ὑλικῶν πραγμάτων καὶ μηδὲν τῶν προσκαίρων προτιμᾶν τῶν αἰωνίων
in that it persuades us to despise material things and to prefer none of the temporal things to the eternal.
因為它說服我們輕看物質的事物,不將任何暫時的事物看得高過永遠的事物。

( οε )Ἡ εἰς Θεὸν ἀγάπη ἀνθίσταται τῇ ἐπιθυμίᾳ·
75. Love for God resists desire,
七十五、對神的愛抵擋情慾的貪戀;

πείθει γὰρ τὸν νοῦν ἐγκρατεύεσθαι ἀπὸ τῶν ἡδονῶν
for it persuades the intellect to exercise self-control over the pleasures.
因為它說服心智對種種快樂操練節制。

Ἡ δὲ εἰς τὸν πλησίον ἀνθίσταται τῷ θυμῷ·
And love for one's neighbor resists the incensive faculty (anger);
對鄰舍的愛則抵擋血氣(怒氣);

ποιεῖ γὰρ καταφρονεῖν δόξης καὶ χρημάτων
for it makes one despise glory and money.
因為它使人輕看榮耀和錢財。

Καὶ ταῦτά εἰσι τὰ δύο δηνάρια , ἅπερ ὁ Σωτὴρ δέδωκε τῷ πανδοχεῖ , ( __ > ἵνα σου ἐπιμέλειαν ποιήσηται
And these are the two denarii which the Savior gave to the innkeeper, that he might take care of you.
這兩樣就是那兩個銀錢,是救主交給店主,要他照應你的。

Ἀλλὰ μὴ φανῇς ἀγνώμων τοῖς λῃσταῖς συνδυάζων , μή ποτε πάλιν πληγῇς καὶ οὐκ ἔτι ἡμιθανής , ἀλλὰ νεκρὸς εὑρεθήσῃ
But do not show yourself ungrateful by associating with the robbers, lest you be struck again and be found no longer half-dead, but dead.
只是不要顯為忘恩負義,與強盜結伴,免得你再次受傷,且不再是半死,乃要被發現是死了。

( οστ ) Κάθαιρε τὸν νοῦν σου ἀπὸ ὀργῆς καὶ μνησικακίας καὶ τῶν αἰσχρῶν λογισμῶν καὶ τότε δυνήσῃ γνῶναι τὴν τοῦ Χριστοῦ ἐνοίκησιν
76. Purify your intellect from anger, from the remembrance of wrongs, and from shameful thoughts, and then you will be able to know the indwelling of Christ.
七十六、要將你的心智從怒氣、記恨和污穢的思念中潔淨出來,那時你就能認識基督的內住。

( οζ ) Τίς σε ἐφώτισεν εἰς τὴν πίστιν τῆς ἁγίας καὶ προσκυνητῆς καὶ ὁμοουσίου Τριάδος;Ἢ τίς σοι ἐγνώρισε τὴν ἔνσαρκον οἰκονομίαν τοῦ ἑνὸς τῆς ἁγίας Τρίαδος; Τίς δέ σε ἐδίδαξε τοὺς περὶ ἀσωμάτων λόγους ἢ τοὺς περὶ γενέσεως καὶ συντελείας τοῦ ὁρωμένου κόσμου ἢ περὶ τῆς ἐκ νεκρῶν ἀναστάσεως καὶ τῆς αἰωνίου ζωῆς ἢ περὶ τῆς δόξης τῆς βασιλείας τῶν οὐρανῶν καὶ τῆς φοβερᾶς κρίσεως; Οὐχὶ ἡ χάρις τοῦ Χριστοῦ ἡ ἐνοικοῦσα ἔν σοι , ἥτις ἐστὶν ὁ ἀρραβὼν τοῦ ἁγίου Πνεύματος; Τί μεῖζον ταύτης τῆς χάριτος ἢ τί κρεῖττον ταύτης τῆς σοφίας καὶ τῆς γνώσεως;Ἢ τί τούτων τῶν ἐπαγγελιῶν ὑψηλότερον; Εἰ δέ ἐσμεν ἀργοὶ καὶ ἀμελεῖς καὶ μὴ καθαίρομεν ἑαυτοὺς τῶν μολυνόντων ἡμᾶς καὶ τὸν νοῦν ἡμῶν ἐκτυφλούντων παθῶν , ὥστε δυνηθῆναι τρανότερον τοῦ ἡλίου τοὺς περὶ τούτων λόγους ὁρᾶν , ἑαυτοὺς αἰτιασώμεθα καὶ μὴ τὴν τῆς χάριτος ἐνοίκησιν ἀρνησώμεθα
77. Who enlightened you unto faith in the holy, adorable, and consubstantial Trinity? Or who made known to you the incarnate dispensation of one of the holy Trinity? Who taught you the principles concerning incorporeal beings, or those concerning the genesis and consummation of the visible world, or concerning the resurrection from the dead and eternal life, or concerning the glory of the kingdom of heaven and the fearful judgment? Was it not the grace of Christ dwelling in you, which is the pledge of the Holy Spirit? What is greater than this grace, or what is better than this wisdom and knowledge? Or what is loftier than these promises? But if we are idle and negligent and do not purify ourselves from the passions that defile us and blind our intellect—so as to be able to see the principles concerning these things more clearly than the sun—let us blame ourselves and not deny the indwelling of grace.
七十七、是誰光照你,使你信入這聖潔、可敬拜、同質的三一神?又是誰使你認識聖三一中之一位成肉身的經綸?是誰教導你關於無形之物的邏各斯,或關於這可見世界之起源與終結的邏各斯,或關於從死人中復活與永遠生命的,或關於諸天之國的榮耀與那可畏審判的?這豈不是那住在你裡面、作聖靈憑質的基督的恩典麼?有甚麼比這恩典更大?有甚麼比這智慧和知識更美?又有甚麼比這些應許更崇高?但我們若是怠惰、疏忽,不將那玷污我們、使我們心智失明的情慾潔淨出來,以致能比太陽更清楚地看見關於這些事的邏各斯,我們就當責怪自己,而非否認恩典的內住。

78. God, who has promised you the eternal good things and has given the pledge of the Spirit in your heart, has commanded you to take care of your life, so that the inner man, set free from the passions, may begin even now to enjoy the good things.
七十八、神既已應許你那些永遠的福分,又已將聖靈的憑質賜在你心裡,祂就吩咐你要看顧自己的生活,好叫那從情慾中得釋放的內裡之人,從現今起就開始享受這些福分。

79. When you have been deemed worthy of the divine and lofty contemplations, take great care for love and self-control, so that, keeping the passible part of the soul undisturbed, you may possess the light of your soul unfailing.
七十九、當你蒙稱許得享屬神而崇高的默觀時,要極力顧念愛與節制,好叫你保守魂中那易受情慾影響的部分不受攪擾,使你魂的光不致止息。

(π ) Τὸ θυμικὸν τῆς ψυχῆς ἀγάπῃ χαλίνωσον καὶ τὸ ἐπιθυμητικὸν αὐτῆς ἐγκρατείᾳ μάρανον καὶ τὸ λογιστικὸν αὐτῆς προσευχῇ πτέρωσον·
80. Bridle the soul's incensive faculty with love, wither its desiring faculty with self-control, and give wings to its rational faculty with prayer;
八十、要用愛勒住魂的血氣,用節制使其貪戀枯萎,用禱告使其理性的部分得著翅膀;

καὶ τὸ φῶς τοῦ νοῦ οὐκ ἀμαυροῦταί ποτε
and the light of the intellect will never be dimmed.
如此,心智的光就永不致昏暗。

81. The things that dissolve love are these:

οἷον ἀτιμία , ζημία , συκοφαντία ἢ εἰς πίστιν ἢ εἰς βίον , δαρμοί , πληγαὶ καὶ τὰ ἑξῆς·
such as dishonor, loss, slander—whether against one's faith or against one's manner of life—beatings, blows, and the like;
諸如羞辱、損失、誣告——無論是針對信仰或是針對生活——鞭打、毆擊,以及諸如此類的事;

καὶ ταῦτα ἢ αὐτῷ συμβαίνονταἤ τινι τῶν αὐτοῦ ἢ συγγενῶν ἢ φίλων
and these whether they befall oneself, or any of one's own, whether kinsmen or friends.
無論這些是臨到自己身上,或是臨到自己的人——無論是親屬或是朋友。

Ὁ οὖν διά τι τούτων λύων τὴν ἀγάπην οὔπω ἔγνω τίς ὁ σκοπὸς τῶν τοῦ Χριστοῦ ἐντολῶν
He, then, who dissolves love because of any of these things has not yet known what is the aim of Christ's commandments.
那因這些事之一而拆毀了愛的人,還未認識基督誡命的目的是甚麼。

( πβ ) Σπούδασον ὅσον δύνασαι πάντα ἄνθρωπον ἀγαπῆσαι·
82. Strive, as much as you can, to love every man;
八十二、要竭盡你所能地去愛每一個人;

εἰ δὲ τοῦτο οὔπω δύνασαι , κἂν μηδένα μισήσῃς
but if you cannot yet do this, at least hate no one.
但你若還不能如此,至少不要恨任何人。

Οὐ δύνασαι δὲ οὐδὲ τοῦτο ποιῆσαι , εἰ μὴ τῶν τοῦ κόσμου πραγμάτων καταφρονήσῃς
Yet you cannot do even this unless you despise the things of the world.
然而,除非你輕看世上的事物,你連這也無法做到。

83. So-and-so has blasphemed;
八十三、某人謗讟了;

μὴ μισήσῃς ἐκεῖνον , ἀλλὰ τὴν βλασφημίαν καὶ τὸν βλασφημεῖν παρασκευάσαντα δαίμονα
do not hate him, but the blasphemy and the demon that incited him to blaspheme.
不要恨那人,乃要恨那謗讟,以及那唆使人謗讟的鬼魔。

Εἰ δὲ τὴν ἐντολὴν φυλάττεις , τὰ τῆς ἀγάπης ἐπίδειξαι καὶ εἴ τι δύνασαι , βοήθησον , ἵνα τοῦ κακοῦ αὐτὸν ἀπαλλάξῃς
And if you keep the commandment, show forth the works of love, and if you can do anything, help him, so as to deliver him from the evil.
你若遵守誡命,就要顯出愛的行為來;你若能做甚麼,就幫助他,好使他脫離那惡。

(πδ ) Οὐ θέλει σε ὁ Χριστὸς μῖσος ἔχειν πρὸς ἄνθρωπον ἢ λύπην ἢ ὀργὴν ἢ μνησικακίαν τὸ σύνολον καθ οἱονδήποτε τρόπον ἢ δι οἱονδήποτε πρᾶγμα πρόσκαιρον·
84. Christ does not will that you have any hatred toward any man, or grief, or anger, or remembrance of wrongs at all, in any manner whatsoever or on account of any temporal thing whatsoever;
八十四、基督絕不願你對任何人懷有恨意、憂愁、怒氣或記恨,無論是以何種方式,或為著任何暫時之物的緣故;

καὶ τοῦτο πάντῃ βοῶσι τὰ τέσσαρα Εὐαγγέλια
and this the four Gospels proclaim throughout.
這是四卷福音書通篇所宣告的。

( πε ) Πολλοί ἐσμεν οἱ λέγοντες , ὀλίγοι δὲ οἱ ποιοῦντες·
85. We who speak are many, but few are those who do;
八十五、我們說話的人雖多,行的人卻少;

ἀλλ οὖν τὸν λόγον τοῦ Θεοῦ οὐδεὶς ὤφειλε νοθεύειν διὰ τὴν ἰδίαν ἀμέλειαν , ἀλλ ὁμολογεῖν μὲν τὴν ἑαυτοῦ ἀσθένειαν , μὴ ἀποκρύπτειν ( __ > δὲ τὴν τοῦ Θεοῦ ἀλήθειαν·
yet no one ought to adulterate the word of God on account of his own negligence, but rather to confess his own weakness while not concealing the truth of God;
然而,沒有人應當因自己的疏忽而摻混神的話語,乃應承認自己的軟弱,卻不隱藏神的真理;
1:1435⧉ ⤴︎
ἵνα μὴ ὑπόδικοι γενώμεθα μετὰ τῆς τῶν ἐντολῶν παραβάσεως καὶ τῆς τοῦ Θεοῦ παρεξηγήσεως
lest we become liable to judgment, both for transgressing the commandments and for misinterpreting the word of God.
免得我們既因違犯誡命,又因曲解神的話,而落入受審的境地。

(πστ ) Ἀγάπη καὶ ἐγκράτεια παθῶν τὴν ψυχὴν ἐλευθεροῦσιν·
86. Love and self-control free the soul from the passions;
八十六、愛與節制使魂脫離情慾;

ἀνάγνωσις καὶ θεωρία ἀγνοίας τὸν νοῦν ἀπαλλάττουσιν·
reading and contemplation deliver the intellect from ignorance;
讀經與默觀使心智脫離無知;
1:1438⧉ ⤴︎
ἡ δὲ τῆς προσευχῆς κατάστασις αὐτῷ παρίστησιν αὐτὸν τῷ Θεῷ
and the state of prayer presents it before God.
而禱告的境界使心智得以站在神面前。

( πζ ) Ὅταν ἴδωσιν ἡμᾶς οἱ δαίμονες τῶν πραγμάτων τοῦ κόσμου καταφρονοῦντας , ἵνα μὴ δι αὐτὰ τοὺς ἀνθρώπους μισήσωμεν καὶ τῆς ἀγάπης ἐκπέσωμεν , τότε συκοφαντίας καθ ἡμῶν ἐγείρουσιν , ἵνα τὴν λύπην μὴ φέροντες τοὺς συκοφαντήσαντας μισήσωμεν
87. When the demons see us despising the things of the world—lest we should hate men on their account and fall away from love—then they stir up slanders against us, so that, being unable to bear the grief, we may hate those who slander us.
八十七、當鬼魔看見我們輕看世上的事物——為要使我們不致因這些事物而恨人,並從愛中墜落——牠們就興起誣告攻擊我們,好叫我們因擔不起那憂愁,去恨那些誣告我們的人。

( πη ) Οὐκ ἔστι πόνος ψυχῆς βαρύτερος συκοφαντίας , κἄν τε εἰς πίστιν κἄν τε εἰς βίον τις συκοφαντῆται·
88. There is no affliction of the soul heavier than slander, whether one is slandered in regard to faith or in regard to one's manner of life.
八十八、魂所受的痛苦,沒有比誣告更沉重的了,無論人是在信仰上、或是在生活上被誣告。
1:1441⧉ ⤴︎
καὶ οὐδεὶς ταύτην καταφρονεῖν δύναται , εἰ μὴ μόνος ὁ εἰς τὸν Θεὸν ἀποβλεπόμενος ὡς ἡ Σουσάννα , τὸν μόνον δυνάμενον καὶ ἐξ ἀναγκῶν ῥύσασθαι , ὥσπερ κἀκείνην , καὶ τοὺς ἀνθρώπους πληροφορῆσαι , ὡς καὶ περὶ ἐκείνης , καὶ τὴν ψυχὴν τῇ ἐλπίδι παραμυθήσασθαι
And no one is able to despise this slander, except only the one who looks to God, as did Susanna, who alone is able both to deliver from distress, as He did her, and to give the people full assurance, as also in her case, and to comfort the soul with hope.
沒有人能夠輕看這誣告,惟有那仰望神的人才能,如同蘇撒拿一樣;惟有神能從困境中拯救人,正如祂拯救了她,也能使眾人完全確信,正如在她的事上一樣,並能以盼望安慰人的靈魂。

(πθ ) Ὅσον σὺ ἐκ ψυχῆς εὔχῃ ὑπὲρ τοῦ συκοφαντήσαντος , τοσοῦτον καὶ ὁ Θεὸς πληροφορεῖ τοὺς σκανδαλισθέντας
(89) The more you pray from your soul for the one who has slandered you, the more God gives full assurance to those who have been scandalised.
(八九)你越從心靈深處為那誣告你的人禱告,神就越使那些跌倒的人得著完全的確信。

(ƒ ) Φύσει ἀγαθός , μόνος ὁ Θεός·
(90) Good by nature is God alone;
(九十)惟有神本性是善的;

καὶ γνώμῃ ἀγαθός , μόνος ὁ θεομίμητος·
and good by deliberate choice is he alone who imitates God.
惟有效法神的人,是出於意志的善。
1:1445⧉ ⤴︎
σκοπὸς γὰρ αὐτῷ ἐστι τῷ φύσει ἀγαθῷ τοὺς πονηροὺς συνάψαι , ἵνα γένωνται ἀγαθοί
For the aim of Him who is good by nature is to unite the wicked to Himself, that they may become good.
因為那位本性是善的神,其目的是要將惡人聯於自己,使他們成為善的。
1:1446⧉ ⤴︎
πάντα ποιεῖ , ἵνα τοῦ σκοποῦ τῆς ἀγάπης μὴ ἐκπέσῃ , ἥτις ἐστὶν αὐτὸς ὁ Θεὸς ἡμῶν
He does all things so as not to fall short of the aim of love, which is our God Himself.
祂行一切事,為要不偏離愛的目標,這愛就是我們的神自己。

(ƒ α ) Αἱ μὲν ἐντολαὶ τοῦ Κυρίου διδάσκουσιν ἡμᾶς τοῖς μέσοις εὐλόγως χρήσασθαι πράγμασιν·
(91) The commandments of the Lord teach us to use indifferent things reasonably;
(九一)主的誡命教導我們合理地使用中性之物;
1:1448⧉ ⤴︎
ἡ δὲ εὔλογος τῶν μεσῶν χρῆσις τὴν τῆς ψυχῆς καθαίρει κατάστασιν·
and the reasonable use of indifferent things purifies the state of the soul;
合理地使用中性之物,潔淨靈魂的光景;
1:1449⧉ ⤴︎
ἡ δὲ καθαρὰ κατάστασις τίκτει τὴν διάκρισιν·
and the purified state gives birth to discernment;
潔淨的光景生出分辨力;
1:1450⧉ ⤴︎
ἡ δὲ διάκρισις τίκτει τὴν ἀπάθειαν , ἐξ ἧς τίκτεται ἡ τελεία ἀγάπη
and discernment gives birth to dispassion, from which is born perfect love.
分辨力生出無情慾,從無情慾生出完全的愛。
