Πατέρας ἑαυτοῦ κατὰ σάρκα τοὺς πατριάρχας καὶ τοὺς προφήτας φησί
He speaks of the patriarchs and the prophets as his fathers according to the flesh.
他所指的,是照肉身而言作他祖先的列祖與眾先知。

[Ἐπὶ σοὶ ἤλπισαν οἱ πατέρες ἡμῶν
[Our fathers hoped in you,
〔我們的列祖倚靠你,

Ἀλλὰ καὶ οἱ κατὰ σάρκα πρὸ ἐμοῦ , τουτέστιν οἱ προφῆται , ἐπὶ σοὶ προσεδόκων , τὴν ἐμὴν ἐπίλαμψιν ἀναμένοντες , καὶ τῆς ἐλπίδος οὐ διεψεύσθησαν·
but also those who, according to the flesh, came before me, that is, the prophets, waited expectantly on you, awaiting my shining forth, and were not disappointed of their hope;
但那些照肉身在我以先的人,就是眾先知,也曾仰望等候你,期待我的顯現,並未因所盼望的而落空;

ὡσαύτως καὶ οἱ πατριάρχαι .] Ἐγὼ δέ εἰμι σκώληξ , καὶ οὐκ ἄνθρωπος
likewise also the patriarchs.] 'But I am a worm, and not a man,'
眾先祖也是如此。〕「但我是蟲,不是人,」

Τα . πεινόφρονας εἶναι διδάσκει , καὶ μάλιστα προσιόντας Θεῷ
He teaches us to be humble-minded, especially those who draw near to God.
祂教導人要存謙卑的心,尤其是那些來到神面前的人。

Ὄνειδος ἀνθρώπων καὶ ἐξουδένωμα λαοῦ
'A reproach of men, and despised of the people.'
「是人所羞辱的,是百姓所藐視的。」

Ταῦτα σαφῶς ὁ εὐαγγελιστὴς πεπρᾶχθαι εἰς αὐτὸν κατὰ τὸν καιρὸν τοῦ σταυροῦ φησιν·

'If you are the Son of God, save yourself.'

'For you are he who drew me out of the womb.'
「因為是你使我從母腹中出來。」

Τοῦτό φησιν , ἐπειδὴ κατ' εὐδοκίαν τοῦ Πατρὸς ἐνηνθρώ πησεν
He says this, since he became man according to the good pleasure of the Father.
祂這樣說,是因為祂乃是按照父的美意而成為人的。

Ὅτε γὰρ , φησὶν , ἦλθε τὸ πλήρωμα τοῦ χρό νου , ἐξαπέστειλεν ὁ Θεὸς τὸν Υἱὸν αὐτοῦ γεννώ μενον ἐκ γυναικός
'For when,' he says, 'the fullness of time came, God sent forth his Son, born of a woman.'
他說:「及至時候滿足,神就差遣祂的兒子,為女子所生。」

Ἐπιγράφεται γὰρ καὶ ἐλπίδα τὸν ἑαυτοῦ Πατέρα , καὶ τοῦτο λέγων ὡς ἄνθρωπος·
For he also inscribes his own Father as his hope, and says this as a man:
因為他也稱自己的父為他的盼望,並且是以人的身分說這話:

ἐπειδὴ γὰρ τὸν Χριστὸν μόνον ἐκ τῆς Μαρίας ἐξέσπασεν ὁ Θεὸς , τῶν ἄλλων ἀνθρώπων οὐκ ἐκσπωμένων , ἀλλ' ἐξερχομένων
For since God drew Christ alone forth out of Mary, while other men are not drawn out but come forth [in the ordinary way],
因為神只將基督獨自從馬利亞裡取出,其他人卻不是被取出,而是照常出生的緣故,

Ἐξῆλθε γὰρ , φησὶν , Ἡσαῦ , ᾧ ἡ δορὰ δασύς
for it says, "Esau came forth, and his skin was hairy."

"Upon thee was I cast from the womb, from my mother's belly," etc.

Εὔχεται πάλιν ὡς ἐκ προσώπου τῆς ἀνθρωπότητος
Again he prays as if from the person of [his] humanity,

for the whole company of his disciples has forsaken him.

Then he foretells the several forms of the affliction:

By this he means the rulers of the Jews.

"I am poured out like water, and all my bones are scattered."

By his bones he means the holy mystagogues [the apostles];

for if the Church is his body, then those who hold it together might reasonably be understood as bones.
因為若教會是他的身體,那麼那些支撐維繫教會的人,理當被理解為骨頭。

Ἠκούσα μεν δὲ τοῦ εὐαγγελιστοῦ , ὡς , συλληφθέντος αὐτοῦ πα ρὰ τῆς σπείρας τῶν στρατιωτῶν , διεσκορπίσθησαν οἱ μαθηταί
For we have heard from the evangelist that, when he was seized by the cohort of soldiers, the disciples were scattered.
我們曾聽福音書作者說,當他被那隊士兵拿住的時候,門徒就四散了。

Τὰ ὀστᾶ τῆς σοφίας , τὰ ἅγια δόγματα τῆς Ἐκκλησίας ἐστὶν , ἅπερ ἐν τῷ Πάσχα μὴ συντρίβειν τοῖς Ἰουδαίοις νενομοθέτηται·
The bones of wisdom are the holy doctrines of the Church, which at the Passover the Jews were commanded by law not to break;
智慧的骨頭,就是教會的聖潔教義;正如在逾越節時,律法規定猶太人不可折斷(羊羔的骨頭);

Ὀστοῦν γὰρ αὐτοῦ , φησὶν , οὐ συντριβήσετε
for it says, "You shall not break a bone of him."
因為經上說:「你們不可折斷他的骨頭。」

Ἐγενήθη ἡ καρδία μου ὡσεὶ κηρὸς τηκόμενος
"My heart has become like melting wax."

"He began to be sorrowful and troubled."

He grieved both for the Jewish nation and for the traitor, because indeed they were being carried off to destruction on account of their impiety toward him.

[ Καὶ διεσκορπίσθη πάντα τὰ ὀστᾶ μου
"And all my bones were scattered."
「我的骨頭都散開了。」

Ἐσκέδα σται , φησὶ , καὶ διεσκορπίσθη τὰ τέως ἐν ὀστῶν τάξει τὴν περὶ τὸν διδάσκαλον συμπληροῦντα σύνταξιν·
"It has been dispersed," he says, "and scattered" — those who formerly, standing in the order of bones, made up the company gathered about the Teacher;
他說:「已經潰散了,」並且「四散了」——那些先前如骨頭一般排列,組成環繞老師之隊伍的人;

for the disciples abandoned him and fled, imitating water let loose across a plain. "My strength is dried up like a potsherd, and my tongue cleaves to my throat."
因為門徒撇下他逃跑了,如同水傾瀉在平原上四散一般。「我的力氣枯乾如同瓦片,我的舌頭貼在我的上顎。」

Σημαίνει διὰ τούτων τὴν ἐπὶ τῷ τιμίῳ σταυρῷ συμβᾶσαν αὐτῷ δίψαν , ὅτε καὶ αἰτήσαντι πιεῖν , ὄξος προσήνεγκαν αὐτῷ μετὰ χολῆς
By these words he signifies the thirst that befell him on the precious cross, when, having asked to drink, they brought him vinegar mixed with gall.
他藉此表明他在寶貴十字架上所遭受的乾渴;那時他求水喝,人就拿調了苦膽的醋給他。

Καὶ ἡ γλῶσσά μου κεκόλληται τῷ λάρυγγί μου .] Καὶ εἰς χοῦν θανά του κατήγαγές με
"And my tongue cleaves to my throat." "And you have brought me down into the dust of death."
「我的舌頭貼在我的上顎。」「你將我安置在死的塵土中。」

Χάριτι γὰρ Θεοῦ ὑπὲρ παντὸς ἐγεύσατο θανάτου
For by the grace of God he tasted death on behalf of everyone.
因為他是靠著神的恩典,為眾人嘗了死味。

Οὐ γὰρ εἰς θάνατον , ἀλλ' εἰς χοῦν θανάτου κατήχθη ὁ Χριστός·
For Christ was brought down not into death itself, but into the dust of death;
因為基督不是被帶入死亡本身,而是被帶入死的塵土;

οὐκ ἐγκατελείφθη γὰρ ἡ ψυχὴ αὐτοῦ εἰς τὸν ᾅδην , οὐδὲ σὰρξ αὐτοῦ εἶδε δια φθοράν
for his soul was not left in Hades, nor did his flesh see corruption.
因為他的靈魂沒有被撇在陰間,他的肉身也未曾見朽壞。

"For many dogs have encircled me."

They probably felt over his whole body and measured each of the bones, in order to see where they ought to drive the nails.
他們大概摸遍了他全身,量度每一根骨頭,為要看清該把釘子釘在何處。

Αὐτοὶ δὲ κατενόησαν καὶ ἐπεῖδόν με
"They gazed and stared at me."
「他們定睛看我。」

Ταῦτα δέ φησι διὰ τὴν κοκ κίνην χλαμύδα καὶ τὸν ἐξ ἀκανθῶν στέφανον , καὶ τὸν ἀντὶ σκήπτρου κάλαμον
He says this on account of the scarlet cloak, the crown woven of thorns, and the reed used in place of a scepter.
他這樣說,是指那件朱紅色的袍子、荊棘編成的冠冕,以及用來代替權杖的蘆葦。

These things are clearly written in the Gospels.

"But you, O Lord, do not remove your help far from me."

Μεθίστησι τοὺς λόγους εἰς προσευχήν
He turns his words into prayer.

[ Σοῦ , φησὶ , βοηθοῦντος καὶ ἀντιλαμβανομένου , τρι ταῖος ἀναστὰς , ματαίαν αὐτῶν τὴν ἐπιβουλὴν ἀπο δείξω .] Ὑποτύπωσις ἡμῖν γενόμενος , ὡς δεῖ ἐν τοῖς πειρασμοῖς ἐπικαλεῖσθαι Θεὸν , καὶ μὴ καταπίπτειν εἰς ἀκηδίαν , μηδὲ ἐκλύεσθαι ὑπὸ τῶν θλίψεων
"With you helping and sustaining me," he says, "rising on the third day I will show their plot to be in vain." He became for us a pattern of how, in temptations, one must call upon God, and not fall into despondency, nor be weakened by afflictions.
他說:「有你的幫助與扶持,我第三日復活,就要顯明他們的陰謀是徒然的。」他成為我們的榜樣,教導我們在試探中應當如何呼求神,而不至陷入頹喪,也不因苦難而軟弱無力。

Ῥῦσαι ἀπὸ ῥομφαίας τὴν ψυχήν μου
"Deliver my soul from the sword."
「求你救我的靈魂脫離刀劍。」

Τὴν κα κίαν τῶν Ἰουδαίων καὶ τὴν ἄνοιαν διὰ τούτων σημαί νει διὰ ῥομφαίας καὶ χειρὸς κυνὸς καὶ λέοντος καὶ κεράτων μονοκερώτων
By these he signifies the wickedness and folly of the Jews — through the sword, and the paw of the dog, and the lion, and the horns of the unicorns.
他藉著這些話——刀劍、犬的爪、獅子,以及獨角獸的角——來表明猶太人的邪惡與愚昧。

Καὶ ἐκ χειρὸς κυνὸς τὴν μονογενῆ μου
"And my only-begotten [soul] from the paw of the dog."

The effects that come from this dog he calls its "paw," and he also calls him a dog;
由這隻犬所發出的動作,他稱之為牠的「爪」,並且也稱牠為「犬」;

Οὐ καλὸν γὰρ , φησὶν , ἐστὶ λαβεῖν τὸν ἄρτον τῶν τέκνων καὶ βαλεῖν τοῖς κυναρίοις
for it says, "It is not good to take the bread of the children and cast it to the little dogs."
因為經上說:「拿兒女的餅丟給小狗吃是不好的。」

[ Ῥομφαία δὲ εἴη ἂν καὶ ὁ διάβολος , ἀεὶ τιτρώ σκειν ἐπιχειρῶν
The sword might also be the devil, who is always attempting to wound;
這刀劍也可能是指魔鬼,牠總是企圖傷人;

Μονογενῆ δὲ λέγει αὐτοῦ τὴν ψυχὴν , διὰ τὸ μεμονῶσθαι καὶ κεχωρίσθαι τῶν ἄλλων ψυχῶν·
and he calls his soul "only-begotten" because it is set apart and separated from all other souls;
他稱他的靈魂為「獨一的」,是因為這靈魂與一切其他的靈魂有別、被分別出來;

πᾶσαι μὲν γὰρ ἐκεῖναι ἔγνωσαν ἁμαρτίαν , ἐκείνη δὲ οὔ·
for all those other souls have known sin, but that soul did not;

and also because it alone always has union, according to hypostasis, with the flesh of God the Word;
並且因為唯獨這靈魂始終在肉身中與神的道按位格聯合;

Εἷς γάρ ἐστιν ὁ Χριστὸς ἐκ δύο τῶν ἐναντίων , τέλειος Θεὸς καὶ τέλειος ἄνθρωπος
for Christ is one, out of two opposites, perfect God and perfect man.
因為基督是由兩種相對的性質——完全的神與完全的人——所合成的一位。

Ἐκείναις δὲ ἐκ διαλειμμάτων ἐπιφοιτᾷ
But upon those other souls he visits only at intervals.
而對其他的靈魂,他卻只是間歇性地臨到。

Perhaps he also calls the Church, standing by him, "only-begotten," because she has neither spot nor wrinkle, being made complete from the blameless, surpassing the sixty queens and eighty concubines. "Save me from the mouth of the lion, and my lowliness from the horns of the unicorns."
或許他也稱那站立在他身旁的教會為「獨一的」,因為她沒有玷污、沒有皺紋,是由無瑕疵者所組成,遠勝於那六十位王后和八十位妃嬪。「求你救我脫離獅子的口,救我這卑微的脫離獨角獸的角。」

ἐν μέσῳ Ἐκκλησίας ὑμνήσω σε
"In the midst of the Church I will hymn you."
「我要在教會中歌頌你。」

Ἐδίδασκε γὰρ ἡμᾶς τὸν φύσει καὶ ἀληθείᾳ Θεὸν καὶ ὁμοούσιον αὐτοῦ Πατέρα
For he was teaching us [to know] the Father, who is God by nature and in truth, and consubstantial with him.
因為他正在教導我們認識父——那位在本性與真理上都是神、並且與他同質的父。

Πάλιν ὡς ἄνθρωπος ἥνωται διὰ τῆς Ἐκκλησίας
Again, as man, he is united [to the Father] through the Church.
他又再一次以人的身分,藉著教會與父聯合。

Οἱ φοβούμενοι τὸν Κύριον , αἰνέσατε αὐτόν·
"You who fear the Lord, praise him;"

"all you seed of Jacob, glorify him."

Ἐπειδὴ γὰρ ἡ Ἐκκλησία καὶ ἐξ ἐθνῶν καὶ ἐξ Ἰουδαίων συνέστηκε , καὶ τούτους καὶ ἐκείνους εἰς τὸν ὕμνον ἐγείρει·
For since the Church is composed both of Gentiles and of Jews, he rouses both the one and the other to the hymn;
因為教會既是由外邦人與猶太人共同組成,他就呼召這兩者都起來歌頌;

τοὺς μὲν ἀπὸ τοῦ προπάτορος ὀνομάζων Ἰα κώβ τε καὶ Ἰσραὴλ , τοὺς δὲ ἀπὸ τῆς ἀρετῆς , ὡς ἀρ κούσης ἀντὶ γένους κοσμῆσαι
naming the one group after their forefather, Jacob and Israel, and the other after virtue, since virtue suffices to adorn them in place of lineage.

So that none of his enemies might suppose that the earth belongs to Satan, and that Christ has only now come to reign over it, for this reason he demonstrates Christ to be its maker; and at the same time he shows his power, in that so great a mass as the earth is established upon the waters.

so that rivers might make their outlets unhindered, mountains and groves of life be allotted, and regions and plains be set apart for men for dwellings and farming.] 'Who shall ascend into the hill of the Lord?' After setting forth the faith, he goes on to expound the teaching of works, so that we who hear might, through both, attain to the true inheritance.

Therefore they also inquire.] 'Who is this King of glory?' Let the powers above ask this, astounded at the paradox of the dispensation.

From the case of those who have already trusted in God and become illustrious—because they possessed confidence—he affirms strongly that prayer is granted.

Since the prophet, not yet knowing the ways of the Lord, nor taught to walk in his paths, and as one not yet guided to the truth of God, nor taught concerning God as Savior, prays in this way — who would not tremble at the word: 'Woe to those who are wise in their own eyes, and prudent in their own sight'? 'Remember not the sins of my youth and my ignorances.'
既然先知尚未認識耶和華的道路,也未曾被教導行走祂的路徑,又彷彿尚未被引導到神的真理,也未曾被教導認識神為救主,竟這樣祈求,那麼誰能不因這話而戰兢:『那些自以為有智慧、在自己眼中看為通達的人有禍了』?『求你不要記念我幼年的罪愆和我的無知。』

Νεότητα τὴν ἀφροσύνην φησίν
By 'youth' he means folly.
他所說的『幼年』,是指愚昧無知。

Ἀφροσύνη δὲ σαφὴς ὁ τῆς εἰδωλολατρείας αὐτῶν καιρός
And the clear instance of folly is the time of their idolatry.

And otherwise, he means the sins of the people in Egypt;

Do not, therefore, remember those sins now, but remember instead the loving-kindness by which you also, at that time, showed kindness and had mercy on them though they were ignorant.

For it is not on account of my own worthiness, but on account of your loving-kindness, that I beseech to obtain this.

ὑποδείξει ἁμαρτάνουσιν ὁδόν
he will show sinners the way,

Πᾶσαι αἱ ὁδοὶ Κυρίου ἔλεος καὶ ἀλήθεια
All the ways of the Lord are mercy and truth.
耶和華一切的道路都是慈愛和真理。

Οἱ γὰρ διηνεκῶς τοῖς θείοις ἐντρεφόμενοι λόγοις μαν θάνουσιν ἀκριβῶς δι' ἐκείνων , ὡς πᾶσαι τοῦ Σωτῆ ρος Χριστοῦ Θεοῦ ἡμῶν οἰκονομίαι ἐλέῳ καὶ ἀληθείᾳ . συγκέκρανται·
For those who are continually nourished in the divine words learn precisely through them that all the dispensations of Christ our Savior and God are blended together with mercy and truth;
因為那些持續在神聖話語中被養育的人,藉此便能清楚明白:我們救主基督、我們的神,一切的救世作為,都是慈愛與真理交融調和而成的;

τοῖς γὰρ μεταμελομένοις ἐφ' οἷς ἐπλημμέλησαν τὸν ἔλεον καὶ τὴν συγγνώμην ὀρέγει τοὺς δὲ ἀηττήτους τῆς ἀρετῆς ἀθλητὰς ἀνακηρύττει καὶ στεφανοῖ σὺν ἀληθείᾳ τὴν ψῆφον ἐκφέρων·
for to those who repent of the wrongs they have committed he extends mercy and forgiveness, while he proclaims the unconquered athletes of virtue and crowns them, rendering his verdict together with truth;
因為對那些為自己所犯過犯而悔改的人,祂施予憐憫與饒恕;而對那些在德行上百戰不屈的鬥士,祂則加以宣告並冠冕,並本著真理作出判決;
1:1230⧉ ⤴︎
καὶ μέντοι καὶ τοῖς παρανομίᾳ συνεζηκόσι , καὶ μεταμε λείᾳ μὴ χρησαμένοις κατὰ τοὺς τῆς ἀληθείας ὅρους ἐπιφέρει τὰς τιμωρίας
and indeed, upon those who have lived in company with lawlessness and have not availed themselves of repentance, he brings punishments according to the standards of truth.
而且,對那些與不法同居、又不肯悔改的人,祂便按著真理的準則,施加懲罰。

[ Καὶ τὸ σπέρμα αὐτοῦ κληρονομήσει γῆν
[And his seed shall inherit the land.
〔他的後裔必承受地土。

Αἱ πράξεις , φησὶν , αἱ γενόμεναι πρόξενοι αὐτῷ τοῦ κληρονομῆσαι τὴν νοητὴν γῆν γενήσονταί γε σπέρμα τῶν ἀγαθῶν ἀνδρῶν , δι' ὧν τοὺς κατὰ Θεὸν γεννω μένους φησίν
The deeds, he says, which became the means by which he inherits the intelligible land, will indeed become the seed of good men, by which he refers to those who are begotten according to God.
他說,那些成為他承受屬靈之地之媒介的行為,將要成為善人的種子;他藉此指的是那些照著神而被生的人。
1:1233⧉ ⤴︎
καὶ διαθήκη αὐτοῦ δηλώσει αὐτούς
and his covenant shall make them known.

Τί δὲ δηλώσει; ἢ τὴν σωτηρίας ὁδόν
And what will it make known? Nothing other than the way of salvation.

For every legislation of God, he says, looks to this: to make the good enjoy the very things which they chose beforehand.
他說,因為神一切的律法都朝向這一個目的:使那些行善的人得以享受他們預先所揀選的美物。

Αἱ θλίψεις τῆς καρδίας μου ἐπληθύνθησαν
The troubles of my heart are multiplied.
我心裡的愁苦增多了。

Πολλοῖς , φησὶν , ἀλγεινοῖς πανταχόθεν περιστοιχίζο μαι
By many pains, he says, I am surrounded on every side.
他說,我四面被眾多的苦楚所圍困。

Ταύτην μου τοίνυν τὴν ταπείνωσιν καὶ τὴν τα λαιπωρίαν ταῖς ἐμαῖς ἀντιταλαντεύσας παρανομίαις , δὸς τὴν ἄφεσιν , καὶ τὴν συγγνώμην πάρασχε
Therefore, weighing this my humiliation and affliction against my transgressions, grant remission, and bestow forgiveness.
所以,求你將我這卑微與困苦,與我的種種不法相權衡,賜下赦免,並施予饒恕。

Ἐκ τῶν ἀναγκῶν μου ἐξάγαγέ με·
Bring me out of my distresses.
求你領我出離我的窘迫。

Ἴδε τὴν ταπείνωσίν μου καὶ τὸν κόπον μου
Behold my humiliation and my toil.
求你看顧我的卑微和我的勞苦。

ἀλλὰ γὰρ εἰσφέρειν τὸν διὰ τῶν ἔργων πόνον
but indeed, [he says this] to bring forward the toil that comes through works.
而這是要提出那藉著行為所生的勞苦。

Ἴδε τοὺς ἐχθρούς μου , ὅτι ἐπληθύνθησαν
Look upon my enemies, for they are multiplied.

Καὶ ἀπὸ τῆς ἀδικίας τῶν ἐχθρῶν εἰς ἔλεον ἐκκαλεῖται τὸν Θεόν
And from the injustice of the enemies he calls God forth to mercy.

Καὶ τοῦτο ἴδιον ἀρετῆς , τὸ μισεῖν μὲν τῶν φαύλων τὰς συν ουσίας , τοὺς δὲ τὴν ἰσότητα τιμῶντας καὶ εὐθύτητι χρωμένους συνήθεις ἔχειν καὶ φίλους·
And this is characteristic of virtue: to hate the company of the base, but to hold as intimates and friends those who honor equity and practice uprightness;
這正是德行的特徵:憎惡與卑劣之人的交往,卻與那些尊重公平、行事正直的人結為知交與朋友;

Τῶν πεπιστευκότων εἰς Χριστὸν εἰσφέρεται τὸ πρόσ ωπον ἀρνουμένων καὶ διισχυριζομένων ἐπὶ τῇ κα ταστάσει τῆς κοινωνίας τῶν Ἰουδαίων τῶν συν εληλυθότων κατὰ τοῦ Κυρίου καὶ κατὰ τοῦ Χριστοῦ αὐτοῦ
The persona is introduced of those who have believed in Christ, disowning and vehemently protesting any part in the fellowship of the Jews who conspired together against the Lord and against his Christ.

He calls 'innocence' the not having taken part in the baseness and the madness of the Jews.

Καὶ ἐπὶ τῷ . Κυρίῳ ἐλπίζων οὐ μὴ ἀσθενήσω
And trusting in the Lord, I shall not waver.
並且我倚靠耶和華,必不動搖。

I shall have, he says, a firm standing, having entrusted my hopes of salvation to you.

τουτέστι πνευματικὴ διδασκαλία , δι' ἧς ἄρδουσι τοὺς ἀκούοντας
that is, spiritual teaching, by which they water those who hear.

The Lord, then, is upon such waters.

"This is my beloved Son" — a voice which he also likens to thunder: "The voice of the Lord breaks the cedars."

Κέδρους ἐν τούτοις τὰς ἀντικειμένας δυνάμεις φησίν
By 'cedars' in these words he means the opposing powers.

'And the Lord shall break in pieces the cedars of Lebanon.'

He means by 'cedars of Lebanon' the exalted ones of the Jewish people, because in the divine Scripture Jerusalem is often called 'Lebanon.'

[The unicorns are] the holy prophets and patriarchs, whose sons the holy apostles are;

because they have their horn and their strength in God alone.

'The voice of the Lord divides the flame of fire.'

'And if you pass through the midst of fire, the fire shall not burn you.'

Φωνὴ Κυρίου συσσείοντος ἔρημον
'The voice of the Lord shakes the wilderness.'

Here 'shaking' is again spoken with reference to being made widely known, as in: 'When Jesus had entered, the whole city was shaken.'

Ἔρημον δὲ τὴν ἐξ ἐθνῶν Ἐκκλησίαν λέγει , τὴν πάλαι ἔρημον οὖσαν τῆς τοῦ Θεοῦ γνώσεως
By 'wilderness' he means the Church from the Gentiles, which was formerly desolate of the knowledge of God.

'And the Lord shall shake the wilderness of Kadesh.'

By 'flood' he means the multitude of believers, according to what is said: 'The whole earth was filled with the knowledge of the Lord, as much water covers the sea.'

It concerns the dedication of the house—either of the Church, or the time when, our outward man being corrupted, the inward man is renewed.

And he sings also on behalf of forgiveness, offering up thanksgiving, and praying that he himself may remain secure regarding what is to come, and giving instruction to others—that if ever such a thing should happen, they should lift up prayers to God.
他也為蒙赦免而歌唱,獻上感謝,並祈求自己在將來的事上能保持穩妥,同時也教導他人:若日後遭遇類似的事,當向神舉起禱告。

'I will exalt you, O Lord, for you have taken me up.'

This also Adam hoped for while he lived in paradise before the deception, and also Hezekiah after he had conquered the Assyrian; and the book of Chronicles teaches this clearly, saying that the heart of Hezekiah the king was lifted up.
亞當在受欺騙以前住在樂園中時,也曾如此盼望;希西家王擊敗亞述人之後亦然;《歷代志》一書清楚教導此事,說希西家王的心曾自高。

Πρὸς σὲ , Κύριε , κεκράξομαι
'To you, O Lord, will I cry.'

For I would be deprived of the life that comes from you;

and others would in no way obtain salvation through me.

For having regained my former glory, it is through that glory that I speak to you, not with any evil conscience;
因為我既已重獲昔日的榮耀,我便藉此榮耀向你說話,並非出於邪惡的良心;

He called mourning 'sackcloth,' since it was customary for those in mourning to make use of sackcloth as well.
他將哀慟稱為「麻衣」,因為在哀慟中的人素來也慣於穿麻衣。

Ὁ γὰρ σάκκος κακίαν καὶ ἀγνωσίαν σημαίνει·
For the sackcloth signifies wickedness and ignorance;

since it is also made from the hair of the goats that stand on the left, and of the scapegoat.

He sings the present psalm as one still in repentance because of sin, and asking to be freed from it.

Yet nevertheless, as one already heard, he also offers up thanksgiving;

καὶ μὴν καὶ τὰ συμβάντα αὐτῷ ἐν τῷ τῆς μετανοίας καιρῷ διηγεῖται
and indeed he also relates the things that happened to him during the time of his repentance.

Τὸ δὲ , ἐκστάσεως , οὐδὲν ἕτερον ἢ αὐτὴν τὴν ἁμαρτίαν ἡμῖν κατασημαίνει , δι' ἣν ὥσπερ ἀγαθῶν φρενῶν ἐξίστατο ἡ ψυχή·
'Ecstasy' signifies to us nothing other than sin itself, on account of which the soul was, as it were, put out of its right senses;
