23:1 ⧉ ⤴︎ κύριε πάτερ καὶ δέσποτα ζωῆς μου μὴ ἐγκαταλίπῃς με ἐν βουλῇ αὐτῶν μὴ ἀφῇς με πεσεῖν ἐν αὐτοῖς
Domine , pater et dominator vitæ meæ , ne derelinquas me in consilio eorum , nec sinas me cadere in illis .
እግዚኦ ፡ አቡየ ፡ አምላከ ፡ ሕይወትየ ፡ ኢትግድፈኒ ፡ በምክረ ፡ ዚአሆሙ ፡ ወኢትኅድገኒ ፡ እደቅ ፡ ቦሙ ።
O Lord, Father and Master of my life, Abandon me not to their counsel: Suffer me not to fall by them.
23:2 ⧉ ⤴︎ τίς ἐπιστήσει ἐπὶ τοῦ διανοήματός μου μάστιγας καὶ ἐπὶ τῆς καρδίας μου παιδείαν σοφίας ἵνα ἐπὶ τοῖς ἀγνοήμασίν μου μὴ φείσωνται καὶ οὐ μὴ παρῇ τὰ ἁμαρτήματα αὐτῶν
Quis superponet in cogitatu meo flagella , et in corde meo doctrinam sapientiæ , ut ignorationibus eorum non parcant mihi , et non appareant delicta eorum ,
መኑ ፡ ይጌሥጾ ፡ ሊተ ፡ ለልብየ ፡ ወመኑ ፡ ይሜህራ ፡ ሊተ ፡ ጥበብ ፡ ለኅሊናየ ፡ ከመ ፡ ይኅድገኒ ፡ እበድየ ፡ ወኢይማኡኒ ፡ በዘይነቡ ፡ ላዕሌየ ።
Who will set scourges over my thought, And a discipline of wisdom over my heart? That they spare me not for my ignorances, And my heart pass not by their sins:
23:3 ⧉ ⤴︎ ὅπως μὴ πληθυνθῶσιν αἱ ἄγνοιαί μου καὶ αἱ ἁμαρτίαι μου πλεονάσωσιν καὶ πεσοῦμαι ἔναντι τῶν ὑπεναντίων καὶ ἐπιχαρεῖταί μοι ὁ ἐχθρός μου
et ne adincrescant ignorantiæ meæ , et multiplicentur delicta mea , et peccata mea abundent , et incidam in conspectu adversariorum meorum , et gaudeat super me inimicus meus ?
ወከመ ፡ ኢይብዝኀኒ ፡ ጌጋይየ ፡ ወከመ ፡ ኢትፈድፍድ ፡ ኀጢአተ ፡ ወከመ ፡ ኢይደቅ ፡ ቅድሜሆሙ ፡ ለፀርየ ፡ ወኢትፍሥሑ ፡ ጸላእትየ ፡ ዲቤየ ።
That my ignorances be not multiplied, And my sins abound not; And I will fall before my adversaries, And my enemy rejoice over me.
23:4 ⧉ ⤴︎ κύριε πάτερ καὶ θεὲ ζωῆς μου μετεωρισμὸν ὀφθαλμῶν μὴ δῷς μοι
Domine , pater et Deus vitæ meæ , ne derelinquas me in cogitatu illorum .
እግዚየ ፡ ወአቡየ ፡ ወአምላከ ፡ ሕይወትየ ፡ ኢታምጽእ ፡ ሊተ ፡ ዘያስሕታ ፡ ለዐይንየ ።
O Lord, Father and God of my life, Give me not a proud look,
23:5 ⧉ ⤴︎ καὶ ἐπιθυμίαν ἀπόστρεψον ἀπ’ ἐμοῦ
Extollentiam oculorum meorum ne dederis mihi , et omne desiderium averte a me .
ወአሰስል ፡ ፍትወተ ፡ እምኔነ ።
And turn away concupiscense from me.
23:6 ⧉ ⤴︎ κοιλίας ὄρεξις καὶ συνουσιασμὸς μὴ καταλαβέτωσάν με καὶ ψυχῇ ἀναιδεῖ μὴ παραδῷς με
Aufer a me ventris concupiscentias , et concubitus concupiscentiæ ne apprehendant me , et animæ irreverenti et infrunitæ ne tradas me .
ጽጋብ ፡ ኢይምጽአኒ ፡ ወፈሐል ፡ ኢይክርየኒ ፡ ወለነፍስ ፡ እኪት ፡ ኢትመጥወኒ ።
Let not greediness and chambering overtake me; And give me not over to a shameless mind.
23:7 ⧉ ⤴︎ παιδείαν στόματος ἀκούσατε τέκνα καὶ ὁ φυλάσσων οὐ μὴ ἁλῷ
Doctrinam oris audite , filii : et qui custodierit illam non periet labiis , nec scandalizabitur in operibus nequissimis .
>ስምዑኒ ፡ ደቂቅየ ፡ ተግሣጸ ፡ አፉየ ፡ ወዘሰ ፡ ዐቀበ ፡ ኢይድኅፅ ፡ ወዘአጽንዐ ፡ ከናፍሪሁ ።
Hear you⌃, my children, the discipline of the mouth; And he that keeps it will not be taken.
23:8 ⧉ ⤴︎ ἐν τοῖς χείλεσιν αὐτοῦ καταληφθήσεται ἁμαρτωλός καὶ λοίδορος καὶ ὑπερήφανος σκανδαλισθήσονται ἐν αὐτοῖς
In vanitate sua apprehenditur peccator : et superbus et maledicus scandalizabitur in illis .
ኃጥእ ፡ ወዕቡይ ፡ ወጸዓሊ ፡ ይትዐቀፉ ፡ ቦሙ ።
The sinner will be overtaken in his lips; And the reviler and the proud man will stumble therein.
23:9 ⧉ ⤴︎ ὅρκῳ μὴ ἐθίσῃς τὸ στόμα σου καὶ ὀνομασίᾳ τοῦ ἁγίου μὴ συνεθισθῇς
Jurationi non assuescat os tuum : multi enim casus in illa .
ወልድየ ፡ ኢታልምዶ ፡ መሐላ ፡ ለአፉከ ፡ ወስሞ ፡ ለቅዱስ ፡ ኢትዝክር ፡ ሶበ ፡ ትምሕል ።
Accustom not your mouth to an oath; And be not accustomed to the naming of the Holy One.
23:10 ⧉ ⤴︎ ὥσπερ γὰρ οἰκέτης ἐξεταζόμενος ἐνδελεχῶς ἀπὸ μώλωπος οὐκ ἐλαττωθήσεται οὕτως καὶ ὁ ὀμνύων καὶ ὀνομάζων διὰ παντὸς ἀπὸ ἁμαρτίας οὐ μὴ καθαρισθῇ
Nominatio vero Dei non sit assidua in ore tuo , et nominibus sanctorum non admiscearis , quoniam non erit immunis ab eis .
ከመ ፡ ገብር ፡ ዘኵሎ ፡ ጊዜ ፡ የሐትትዎ ፡ ኢይጸብእ ፡ ቊስለ ፡ ለሥጋሁ ፡ ከማሁ ፡ ዘይዜከር ፡ ስሞ ፡ ለእግዚአብሔር ፡ ዘልፈ ፡ እንዘ ፡ ይምሕል ፡ ኢይነጽሕ ፡ እምነ ፡ ኀጢአት ።
For as a servant that is continually scourged will not lack a bruise, So he also that swears and names God continually will not be cleansed from sin.
23:11 ⧉ ⤴︎ ἀνὴρ πολύορκος πλησθήσεται ἀνομίας καὶ οὐκ ἀποστήσεται ἀπὸ τοῦ οἴκου αὐτοῦ μάστιξ ἐὰν πλημμελήσῃ ἁμαρτία αὐτοῦ ἐπ’ αὐτῷ κἂν ὑπερίδῃ ἥμαρτεν δισσῶς καὶ εἰ διὰ κενῆς ὤμοσεν οὐ δικαιωθήσεται πλησθήσεται γὰρ ἐπαγωγῶν ὁ οἶκος αὐτοῦ
Sicut enim servus interrogatus assidue a livore non minuitur , sic omnis jurans et nominans in toto a peccato non purgabitur .
ብዙኅ ፡ ጌጋዩ ፡ ለብእሲ ፡ መሓሊ ፡ ወኢየኀልቅ ፡ መቅሠፍተ ፡ ቤቱ ። ወእመኒ ፡ ረስዐ ፡ ኀጢአቱሰ ፡ ኢይትኀደጎ ፡ ወእመኒ ፡ ተጸመመ ፡ ካዕበተ ፡ ይከውኖ ፡ ጌጋዩ ። ወኢይጸድቅ ፡ በዘ ፡ መሐለ ፡ እስመ ፡ ምሉእ ፡ ፍዳሁ ፡ ዲበ ፡ ቤቱ ።
A man of many oaths will be filled with iniquity; And the scourge will not depart from his house: If he shall offend, his sin will be upon him; And if he disregard it, he has sinned doubly; And if he has sworn in vain, he will not be justified; For his house will be filled with calamities.
23:12 ⧉ ⤴︎ ἔστιν λέξις ἀντιπαραβεβλημένη θανάτῳ μὴ εὑρεθήτω ἐν κληρονομίᾳ Ιακωβ ἀπὸ γὰρ εὐσεβῶν ταῦτα πάντα ἀποστήσεται καὶ ἐν ἁμαρτίαις οὐκ ἐγκυλισθήσονται
Vir multum jurans implebitur iniquitate , et non discedet a domo illius plaga .
ቦቱ ፡ ቃለ ፡ እንተ ፡ ታመጽኣ ፡ ለሞት ፡ ወኢትሄሉ ፡ ውስተ ፡ ርስተ ፡ ያዕቆብ ። ኵሉ ፡ ዝንቱ ፡ ኢሀለወ ፡ ኀበ ፡ ጻድቃን ፡ ወኢይትዐቀፉ ፡ በኀጢአት ።
There is a manner of speech that is clothed about with death: Let it not be found in the heritage of Jacob; For all these things will be far from the godly, And they will not wallow in sins.
23:13 ⧉ ⤴︎ ἀπαιδευσίαν ἀσυρῆ μὴ συνεθίσῃς τὸ στόμα σου ἔστιν γὰρ ἐν αὐτῇ λόγος ἁμαρτίας
Et si frustraverit , delictum illius super ipsum erit : et si dissimulaverit , delinquit dupliciter :
ነገረ ፡ ስላቅ ፡ ኢይፃእ ፡ እምአፉከ ፡ እስመቦ ፡ ውስቴቱኒ ፡ ብዙኅ ፡ ኀጢአት ።
Accustom not your mouth to gross rudeness, For therein is the word of sin.
23:14 ⧉ ⤴︎ μνήσθητι πατρὸς καὶ μητρός σου ἀνὰ μέσον γὰρ μεγιστάνων συνεδρεύεις μήποτε ἐπιλάθῃ ἐνώπιον αὐτῶν καὶ τῷ ἐθισμῷ σου μωρανθῇς καὶ θελήσεις εἰ μὴ ἐγεννήθης καὶ τὴν ἡμέραν τοῦ τοκετοῦ σου καταράσῃ
et si in vacuum juraverit , non justificabitur : replebitur enim retributione domus illius .
ተዘከሮሙ ፡ ለአቡከ ፡ ወለእምከ ፡ ወተፀመድ ፡ መኳንንቲከ ፡ ወኢትስሐት ፡ በቅድሜሆሙ ፡ ወኢትልሳሕ ፡ በእበድከ ፡ ከመ ፡ ኢትበል ፡ ሶበ ፡ ኢተወለድኩ ፡ ወከመ ፡ ኢትርግም ፡ ዕለተ ፡ ተወለድከ ።
Remember your father and your mother, For you sit in the midst of great men; That you be not forgetful before them, And become a fool by your custom; So will you wish that you had not been born, And curse the day of your nativity.
23:15 ⧉ ⤴︎ ἄνθρωπος συνεθιζόμενος λόγοις ὀνειδισμοῦ ἐν πάσαις ταῖς ἡμέραις αὐτοῦ οὐ μὴ παιδευθῇ
Est et alia loquela contraria morti : non inveniatur in hæreditate Jacob .
ብእሲ ፡ ዘልሙድ ፡ ስላቀ ፡ ኢይጠብብ ፡ አምጣነ ፡ ሕያው ፡ ውእቱ ።
A man that is accustomed to words of reproach Will not be corrected all the days of his life.
23:16 ⧉ ⤴︎ δύο εἴδη πληθύνουσιν ἁμαρτίας καὶ τὸ τρίτον ἐπάξει ὀργήν
Etenim a misericordibus omnia hæc auferentur , et in delictis non volutabuntur .
ክልኤቱ ፡ እሙንቱ ፡ እለ ፡ ያመጽእዋ ፡ ለኀጢአት ፡ ወሣልሶሙ ፡ ያመጽኣ ፡ ለመንሱት ፡ ነፍስ ፡ መዐትም ፡ ዘይነድድ ፡ ከመ ፡ እሳት ፡ ወኢትቈርር ፡ እስከ ፡ ታሰጥሞ ፡ ወብእሲኒ ፡ ዘይዜሙ ፡ በነፍስተ ፡ ሥጋሁ ፡ ኢኀድግ ፡ እስከ ፡ ያነድዳ ፡ ለእሳት ።
Two sorts of men multiply sins, And the third will bring wrath: A hot mind, as a burning fire, will not be quenched till it be consumed: A fornicator in the body of his flesh will never cease till he has burned out the fire.
23:17 ⧉ ⤴︎ ψυχὴ θερμὴ ὡς πῦρ καιόμενον οὐ μὴ σβεσθῇ ἕως ἂν καταποθῇ ἄνθρωπος πόρνος ἐν σώματι σαρκὸς αὐτοῦ οὐ μὴ παύσηται ἕως ἂν ἐκκαύσῃ πῦρ ἀνθρώπῳ πόρνῳ πᾶς ἄρτος ἡδύς οὐ μὴ κοπάσῃ ἕως ἂν τελευτήσῃ
Indisciplinatæ loquelæ non assuescat os tuum : est enim in illa verbum peccati .
ለብእሲ ፡ ዘማዊ ፡ ኵሉ ፡ እክል ፡ ይጥዕሞ ፡ ወኢያዐርፍ ፡ እስከ ፡ አመ ፡ ይመውት ።
All bread is sweet to a fornicator: He will not leave off till he die.
23:18 ⧉ ⤴︎ ἄνθρωπος παραβαίνων ἀπὸ τῆς κλίνης αὐτοῦ λέγων ἐν τῇ ψυχῇ αὐτοῦ τίς με ὁρᾷ σκότος κύκλῳ μου καὶ οἱ τοῖχοί με καλύπτουσιν καὶ οὐθείς με ὁρᾷ τί εὐλαβοῦμαι τῶν ἁμαρτιῶν μου οὐ μὴ μνησθήσεται ὁ ὕψιστος
Memento patris et matris tuæ : in medio enim magnatorum consistis :
ብእሲ ፡ ዘይትፋለስ ፡ እምነ ፡ ምስካቢሁ ፡ ወይብል ፡ በልቡ ፡ አልቦ ፡ ዘይሬእየኒ ፡ ጽልመት ፡ ብሔር ፡ ወአረፍትኒ ፡ ይሴውረኒ ፡ ምንተ ፡ እፈርህ ፡ እንከ ፡ አልቦ ፡ ዘያአምረኒ ፡ ወልዑልኒ ፡ ይረስዕ ፡(ሊተ ፡)፡ ኀጢአትየ ፡ ወኢይዜከረኒ ።
A man that goes astray from his own bed, Saying in his heart, Who sees me? Darkness is round about me, and the walls hide me, And no man sees me; of whom am I afraid? The Most High will not remember my sins;
23:19 ⧉ ⤴︎ καὶ ὀφθαλμοὶ ἀνθρώπων ὁ φόβος αὐτοῦ καὶ οὐκ ἔγνω ὅτι ὀφθαλμοὶ κυρίου μυριοπλασίως ἡλίου φωτεινότεροι ἐπιβλέποντες πάσας ὁδοὺς ἀνθρώπων καὶ κατανοοῦντες εἰς ἀπόκρυφα μέρη
ne forte obliviscatur te Deus in conspectu illorum , et assiduitate tua infatuatus , improperium patiaris , et maluisses non nasci , et diem nativitatis tuæ maledicas .
ወዳእሙ ፡ ዐይነ ፡ ሰብእ ፡ ይፈርህ ፡ ኢይርአዮ ፡ ወኢያአምር ፡ ከመ ፡ ዐይነ ፡ እግዚአብሔር ፡ ይበርህ ፡ እምአእላፈ ፡ ፀሓይ ፡ ወይሬእዮ ፡ ኵሎ ፡ ምግባሮ ፡ ለእጓለ ፡ እመሕያው ፡ ወያአምሮ ፡ ኵሎ ፡ ዘይገብር ፡ ጽምሚተ ።
—And the eyes of men are his terror, And he knows not that the eyes of the Lord are ten thousand times brighter than the sun, Beholding all the ways of men, And looking into secret places.
23:20 ⧉ ⤴︎ πρὶν ἢ κτισθῆναι τὰ πάντα ἔγνωσται αὐτῷ οὕτως καὶ μετὰ τὸ συντελεσθῆναι
Homo assuetus in verbis improperii in omnibus diebus suis non erudietur .
— All things were known to him or ever they were created; And in like manner also after they were perfected.
23:21 ⧉ ⤴︎ οὗτος ἐν πλατείαις πόλεως ἐκδικηθήσεται καὶ οὗ οὐχ ὑπενόησεν πιασθήσεται
Duo genera abundant in peccatis , et tertium adducit iram et perditionem .
ወበማእከለ ፡ ሀገር ፡ ይትቤቀሎ ፡ ወእንተ ፡ ኀበ ፡ ኢተሐዘበ ፡ ያሠግሮ ።
This man will be punished in the streets of the city; And where he suspected not he will be taken.
23:22 ⧉ ⤴︎ οὕτως καὶ γυνὴ καταλιποῦσα τὸν ἄνδρα καὶ παριστῶσα κληρονόμον ἐξ ἀλλοτρίου
Anima calida quasi ignis ardens , non extinguetur donec aliquid glutiat :
ወከማሁ ፡ ብእሲትኒ ፡ እንተ ፡ ተኀድግ ፡ ምታ ፡ ወትውልድ ፡ ወራሴ ፡ በዲበ ፡ መሐዛ ።
So also a wife that leaves her husband, And brings in an heir by a stranger.
23:23 ⧉ ⤴︎ πρῶτον μὲν γὰρ ἐν νόμῳ ὑψίστου ἠπείθησεν καὶ δεύτερον εἰς ἄνδρα αὐτῆς ἐπλημμέλησεν καὶ τὸ τρίτον ἐν πορνείᾳ ἐμοιχεύθη καὶ ἐξ ἀλλοτρίου ἀνδρὸς τέκνα παρέστησεν
et homo nequam in ore carnis suæ non desinet donec incendat ignem .
አሐቲ ፡ ክሕደት ፡ በእግዚአብሔር ፡ ወካልእታ ፡ ዐለወቶ ፡>ለምታ ፤ ወሣልስታ ፡ ሰረቀት ፡ በዝሙታ ፡ ወአቀመት ፡ ውሉደ ፡ እምላዕለ ፡ መሐዛ ።
For first, she was disobedient in the law of the Most High; And secondly, she trespassed against her own husband; And thirdly, she played the adulteress in whoredom, And brought in children by a stranger.
23:24 ⧉ ⤴︎ αὕτη εἰς ἐκκλησίαν ἐξαχθήσεται καὶ ἐπὶ τὰ τέκνα αὐτῆς ἐπισκοπὴ ἔσται
Homini fornicario omnis panis dulcis : non fatigabitur transgrediens usque ad finem .
ለእንተ ፡ ከመዝ ፡ የኀስርዋ ፡ ወትትቀሠፍ ፡ በውሉዳ ።
She shall be brought out into the congregation; And upon her children will there be visitation.
23:25 ⧉ ⤴︎ οὐ διαδώσουσιν τὰ τέκνα αὐτῆς εἰς ῥίζαν καὶ οἱ κλάδοι αὐτῆς οὐκ οἴσουσιν καρπόν
Omnis homo qui transgreditur lectum suum , contemnens in animam suam , et dicens : Quis me videt ?
ወይሤረው ፡ ዘርኣ ፡ ወፍሬሃ ፡ ወኢይፈርዩ ፡ አዕጹቂሃ ።
Her children will not spread into roots, And her branches will bear no fruit.
23:26 ⧉ ⤴︎ καταλείψει εἰς κατάραν τὸ μνημόσυνον αὐτῆς καὶ τὸ ὄνειδος αὐτῆς οὐκ ἐξαλειφθήσεται
Tenebræ circumdant me , et parietes cooperiunt me , et nemo circumspicit me : quem vereor ? delictorum meorum non memorabitur Altissimus .
ወርጉመ ፡ ይከውን ፡ ዝክራ ፡ ወታወርስ ፡ መርገመ ፡ ለቤታ ፡ ወኢየኀልቅ ፡ ለዝላፉ ፡(መርገማ ፡ወ )ኀሳራ ።
She will leave her memory for a curse; And her reproach will not be blotted out.
23:27 ⧉ ⤴︎ καὶ ἐπιγνώσονται οἱ καταλειφθέντες ὅτι οὐθὲν κρεῖττον φόβου κυρίου καὶ οὐθὲν γλυκύτερον τοῦ προσέχειν ἐντολαῖς κυρίου
Et non intelligit quoniam omnia videt oculus illius , quoniam expellit a se timorem Dei hujusmodi hominis timor , et oculi hominum timentes illum :
ወያአምር ፡ እንከ ፡ ኵሉ ፡ ዘርእያ ፡ ከመ ፡ አልቦ ፡ ዘይኄይስ ፡ እምፈሪሃ ፡ እግዚአብሔር ፡ ወአልቦ ፡ ዘይጥዕም ፡ እምነ ፡ ዐቂበ ፡ ትእዛዙ ፡ ለእግዚአብሔር ።
And those who are left behind will know that there is nothing better than the fear of the Lord, And nothing sweeter than to take heed to the commandments of the Lord.
23:28 ⧉ ⤴︎ — et non cognovit quoniam oculi Domini multo plus lucidiores sunt super solem , circumspicientes omnes vias hominum , et profundum abyssi , et hominum corda , intuentes in absconditas partes .
— And he does not know that the eyes of the Lord are far brighter than the sun, beholding all the ways of men, and the depth of the abyss, and the hearts of men, gazing into their hidden parts.
