8:1 ⧉ ⤴︎ וַיֹּ֨אמֶר יְהֹוָ֤ה אֶל ־יְהוֹשֻׁ֙עַ֙ אַל ־תִּירָ֣א וְאַל ־תֵּחָ֔ת קַ֣ח עִמְּךָ֗ אֵ֚ת כׇּל ־עַ֣ם הַמִּלְחָמָ֔ה וְק֖וּם עֲלֵ֣ה הָעָ֑י רְאֵ֣ה ׀ נָתַ֣תִּי בְיָדְךָ֗ אֶת ־מֶ֤לֶךְ הָעַי֙ וְאֶת ־עַמּ֔וֹ וְאֶת ־עִיר֖וֹ וְאֶת ־אַרְצֽוֹ ׃
καὶ εἶπεν κύριος πρὸς Ἰησοῦν μὴ φοβηθῇς μηδὲ δειλιάσῃς λαβὲ μετὰ σοῦ τοὺς ἄνδρας πάντας τοὺς πολεμιστὰς καὶ ἀναστὰς ἀνάβηθι εἰς Γαι ἰδοὺ δέδωκα εἰς τὰς χεῖράς σου τὸν βασιλέα Γαι καὶ τὴν γῆν αὐτοῦ
Dixit autem Dominus ad Josue : Ne timeas , neque formides : tolle tecum omnem multitudinem pugnatorum , et consurgens ascende in oppidum Hai . Ecce tradidi in manu tua regem ejus et populum , urbemque et terram .
ወይቤሎ ፡ እግዚአብሔር ፡ ለኢየሱስ ፡ ኢትፍራህ ፡ ወኢትደንግፅ ፡ ንሥኦሙ ፡ ምስሌከ ፡ ለኵሎሙ ፡ ዕደው ፡ መስተቃትላን ፡ ወተንሥእ ፡ ወዕረግ ፡ ውስተ ፡ ጋይ ፡ እስመ ፡ ናሁ ፡ አግባእክዎ ፡ ውስተ ፡ እደዊከ ፡ ለንጉሠ ፡ ጋይ ፡ ወለሕዝቡሂ ፡ ወለሀገሩሂ ፡ ወለምድሩሂ ።
Yahweh said to Joshua, “Don’t be afraid, and don’t be dismayed. Take all the warriors with you, and arise, go up to Ai. Behold, I have given into your hand the king of Ai, with his people, his city, and his land.
8:2 ⧉ ⤴︎ וְעָשִׂ֨יתָ לָעַ֜י וּלְמַלְכָּ֗הּ כַּאֲשֶׁ֨ר עָשִׂ֤יתָ לִּֽירִיחוֹ֙ וּלְמַלְכָּ֔הּ רַק ־שְׁלָלָ֥הּ וּבְהֶמְתָּ֖הּ תָּבֹ֣זּוּ לָכֶ֑ם שִׂים ־לְךָ֥ אֹרֵ֛ב לָעִ֖יר מֵאַחֲרֶֽיהָ ׃
καὶ ποιήσεις τὴν Γαι ὃν τρόπον ἐποίησας τὴν Ιεριχω καὶ τὸν βασιλέα αὐτῆς καὶ τὴν προνομὴν τῶν κτηνῶν προνομεύσεις σεαυτῷ κατάστησον δὲ σεαυτῷ ἔνεδρα τῇ πόλει εἰς τὰ ὀπίσω
Faciesque urbi Hai , et regi ejus , sicut fecisti Jericho , et regi illius : praedam vero , et omnia animantia diripietis vobis : pone insidias urbi post eam .
ወትገብሮሙ ፡ ለጋይ ፡ ወለንጉሦሙ ፡ ከመ ፡ ገበርካሃ ፡ ለኢያሪኮ ፡ ወንጉሣ ፡ ወበርበረ ፡ እንስሳሆሙ ፡ በርብር ፡ ለርእስከ ፡ ወባሕቱ ፡ ፈኑ ፡ ይዕግትዋ ፡ ለሀገር ፡ እንተ ፡ መንገለ ፡ ከዋላሃ ።
You shall do to Ai and her king as you did to Jericho and her king, except you shall take its goods and its livestock for yourselves. Set an ambush for the city behind it.”
8:3 ⧉ ⤴︎ וַיָּ֧קׇם יְהוֹשֻׁ֛עַ וְכׇל ־עַ֥ם הַמִּלְחָמָ֖ה לַעֲל֣וֹת הָעָ֑י וַיִּבְחַ֣ר יְ֠הוֹשֻׁ֠עַ שְׁלֹשִׁ֨ים אֶ֤לֶף אִישׁ֙ גִּבּוֹרֵ֣י הַחַ֔יִל וַיִּשְׁלָחֵ֖ם לָֽיְלָה ׃
καὶ ἀνέστη Ἰησοῦς καὶ πᾶς ὁ λαὸς ὁ πολεμιστὴς ὥστε ἀναβῆναι εἰς Γαι ἐπέλεξεν δὲ Ἰησοῦς τριάκοντα χιλιάδας ἀνδρῶν δυνατοὺς ἐν ἰσχύι καὶ ἀπέστειλεν αὐτοὺς νυκτός
Surrexitque Josue , et omnis exercitus bellatorum cum eo , ut ascenderent in Hai : et electa triginta millia virorum fortium misit nocte ,
ወተንሥአ ፡ ኢየሱስ ፡ ወኵሉ ፡ ሕዝብ ፡ ዘመስተቃትላን ፡ ወዐርጉ ፡ ውስተ ፡ ጋይ ፡ ወኀርየ ፡ ኢየሱስ ፡ ሠለስተ ፡ እልፈ ፡ ዕደወ ፡ ጽኑዓነ ፡ ወመስተቃትላነ ፡ ወኀያላነ ፡ ወፈነዎሙ ፡ በሌሊት ።
So Joshua arose, with all the warriors, to go up to Ai. Joshua chose thirty thousand men, the mighty men of valor, and sent them out by night.
8:4 ⧉ ⤴︎ וַיְצַ֨ו אֹתָ֜ם לֵאמֹ֗ר רְ֠א֠וּ אַתֶּ֞ם אֹרְבִ֤ים לָעִיר֙ מֵאַחֲרֵ֣י הָעִ֔יר אַל ־תַּרְחִ֥יקוּ מִן ־הָעִ֖יר מְאֹ֑ד וִהְיִיתֶ֥ם כֻּלְּכֶ֖ם נְכֹנִֽים ׃
καὶ ἐνετείλατο αὐτοῖς λέγων ὑμεῖς ἐνεδρεύσατε ὀπίσω τῆς πόλεως μὴ μακρὰν γίνεσθε ἀπὸ τῆς πόλεως καὶ ἔσεσθε πάντες ἕτοιμοι
praecepitque eis , dicens : Ponite insidias post civitatem , nec longius recedatis : et eritis omnes parati .
ወአዘዞሙ ፡ ወይቤሎሙ ፡ ሑሩ ፡ ከመ ፡ ታእምሩ ፡ ዕግትዋ ፡ ለሀገር ፡ እንተ ፡ መንገለ ፡ ከዋላሃ ፡ ለሀገር ፡ ወኢትርሐቁ ፡ በሕቁ ፡ እምነ ፡ ሀገር ፡ ወንበሩ ፡ ኵልክሙ ፡ ድልዋኒክሙ ።
He commanded them, saying, “Behold, you shall lie in ambush against the city, behind the city. Don’t go very far from the city, but all of you be ready.
8:5 ⧉ ⤴︎ וַאֲנִ֗י וְכׇל ־הָעָם֙ אֲשֶׁ֣ר אִתִּ֔י נִקְרַ֖ב אֶל ־הָעִ֑יר וְהָיָ֗ה כִּֽי ־יֵצְא֤וּ לִקְרָאתֵ֙נוּ֙ כַּאֲשֶׁ֣ר בָּרִֽאשֹׁנָ֔ה וְנַ֖סְנוּ לִפְנֵיהֶֽם ׃
καὶ ἐγὼ καὶ πάντες οἱ μετ’ ἐμοῦ προσάξομεν πρὸς τὴν πόλιν καὶ ἔσται ὡς ἂν ἐξέλθωσιν οἱ κατοικοῦντες Γαι εἰς συνάντησιν ἡμῖν καθάπερ καὶ πρῴην καὶ φευξόμεθα ἀπὸ προσώπου αὐτῶν
Ego autem , et reliqua multitudo , quae mecum est , accedemus ex adverso contra urbem . Cumque exierint contra nos , sicut ante fecimus , fugiemus , et terga vertemus ,
ወአንሰ ፡ ወኵሉ ፡ እለ ፡ ምስሌየ ፡ ነሐውር ፡ ኀበ ፡ ሀገር ፡ ወሶበ ፡ ወፅኡ ፡ ሰብአ ፡ ጋይ ፡ ወተቀበሉነ ፡ ከመ ፡ ቀዲሙ ፡ ንጐይይ ፡ እምቅድመ ፡ ገጾሙ ።
I and all the people who are with me will approach the city. It shall happen, when they come out against us, as at the first, that we will flee before them.
8:6 ⧉ ⤴︎ וְיָצְא֣וּ אַחֲרֵ֗ינוּ עַ֣ד הַתִּיקֵ֤נוּ אוֹתָם֙ מִן ־הָעִ֔יר כִּ֣י יֹֽאמְר֔וּ נָסִ֣ים לְפָנֵ֔ינוּ כַּאֲשֶׁ֖ר בָּרִֽאשֹׁנָ֑ה וְנַ֖סְנוּ לִפְנֵיהֶֽם ׃
καὶ ὡς ἂν ἐξέλθωσιν ὀπίσω ἡμῶν ἀποσπάσομεν αὐτοὺς ἀπὸ τῆς πόλεως καὶ ἐροῦσιν φεύγουσιν οὗτοι ἀπὸ προσώπου ἡμῶν ὃν τρόπον καὶ ἔμπροσθεν
donec persequentes ab urbe longius protrahantur : putabunt enim nos fugere sicut prius .
ወሶበ ፡ ወፅኡ ፡ ወዴገኑነ ፡ ናርሕቆሙ ፡ እምነ ፡ ሀገር ፡ ወይብሉ ፡ ነትዑ ፡ እሉሂ ፡ እምቅድመ ፡ ገጽነ ፡ ከመ ፡ ቀዲሙ ፡ ወንሕነሰ ፡ ንጐይይ ፡ እምቅድመ ፡ ገጾሙ ።
They will come out after us until we have drawn them away from the city; for they will say, ‘They flee before us, like the first time.’ So we will flee before them,
8:7 ⧉ ⤴︎ וְאַתֶּ֗ם תָּקֻ֙מוּ֙ מֵהָ֣אוֹרֵ֔ב וְהוֹרַשְׁתֶּ֖ם אֶת ־הָעִ֑יר וּנְתָנָ֛הּ יְהֹוָ֥ה אֱלֹהֵיכֶ֖ם בְּיֶדְכֶֽם ׃
ὑμεῖς δὲ ἐξαναστήσεσθε ἐκ τῆς ἐνέδρας καὶ πορεύσεσθε εἰς τὴν πόλιν
Nobis ergo fugientibus , et illis persequentibus , consurgetis de insidiis , et vastabitis civitatem : tradetque eam Dominus Deus vester in manus vestras .
ወእምዝ ፡ እንከ ፡ ተንሥኡ ፡ አንትሙሂ ፡ ወአጥፍእዋ ፡ ለሀገሮሙ ፡ ወያገብኣ ፡ እግዚአብሔር ፡ አምላክክሙ ፡ ውስተ ፡ እደዊክሙ ።
and you shall rise up from the ambush, and take possession of the city; for Yahweh your God will deliver it into your hand.
8:8 ⧉ ⤴︎ וְהָיָ֞ה כְּתׇפְשְׂכֶ֣ם אֶת ־הָעִ֗יר תַּצִּ֤יתוּ אֶת ־הָעִיר֙ בָּאֵ֔שׁ כִּדְבַ֥ר יְהֹוָ֖ה תַּעֲשׂ֑וּ רְא֖וּ צִוִּ֥יתִי אֶתְכֶֽם ׃
κατὰ τὸ ῥῆμα τοῦτο ποιήσετε ἰδοὺ ἐντέταλμαι ὑμῖν
Cumque ceperitis , succendite eam , et sic omnia facietis , ut jussi .
ወእምከመ ፡ ቦእክምዋ ፡ ለሀገሮሙ ፡ አውዕይዋ ፡ በእሳት ፡ ወግበሩ ፡ በከመ ፡ እቤለክሙ ፡ ናሁ ፡ አዘዝኩክሙ ።
It shall be, when you have seized the city, that you shall set the city on fire. You shall do this according to Yahweh’s word. Behold, I have commanded you.”
8:9 ⧉ ⤴︎ וַיִּשְׁלָחֵ֣ם יְהוֹשֻׁ֗עַ וַיֵּֽלְכוּ֙ אֶל ־הַמַּאְרָ֔ב וַיֵּשְׁב֗וּ בֵּ֧ין בֵּֽית ־אֵ֛ל וּבֵ֥ין הָעַ֖י מִיָּ֣ם לָעָ֑י וַיָּ֧לֶן יְהוֹשֻׁ֛עַ בַּלַּ֥יְלָה הַה֖וּא בְּת֥וֹךְ הָעָֽם ׃
καὶ ἀπέστειλεν αὐτοὺς Ἰησοῦς καὶ ἐπορεύθησαν εἰς τὴν ἐνέδραν καὶ ἐνεκάθισαν ἀνὰ μέσον Βαιθηλ καὶ ἀνὰ μέσον Γαι ἀπὸ θαλάσσης τῆς Γαι
Dimisitque eos , et perrexerunt ad locum insidiarum , sederuntque inter Bethel et Hai , ad occidentalem plagam urbis Hai : Josue autem nocte illa in medio mansit populi ,
ወፈነዎሙ ፡ ኢየሱስ ፡ ወሖሩ ፡ ይዕግቱ ፡ ወነበሩ ፡ ማእከለ ፡ ቤቴል ፡ ወማእከለ ፡ ጋይ ፡ እምኀበ ፡ ባሕረ ፡ ጋይ ፡ ወቤተ ፡ ኢየሱስ ፡ ህየ ፡ በይእቲ ፡ ሌሊት ፡ ማእከለ ፡ ሕዝብ ።
Joshua sent them out; and they went to set up the ambush, and stayed between Bethel and Ai on the west side of Ai; but Joshua stayed among the people that night.
8:10 ⧉ ⤴︎ וַיַּשְׁכֵּ֤ם יְהוֹשֻׁ֙עַ֙ בַּבֹּ֔קֶר וַיִּפְקֹ֖ד אֶת ־הָעָ֑ם וַיַּ֨עַל ה֜וּא וְזִקְנֵ֧י יִשְׂרָאֵ֛ל לִפְנֵ֥י הָעָ֖ם הָעָֽי ׃
καὶ ὀρθρίσας Ἰησοῦς τὸ πρωὶ ἐπεσκέψατο τὸν λαόν καὶ ἀνέβησαν αὐτὸς καὶ οἱ πρεσβύτεροι κατὰ πρόσωπον τοῦ λαοῦ ἐπὶ Γαι
surgensque diluculo recensuit socios , et ascendit cum senioribus in fronte exercitus , vallatus auxilio pugnatorum .
ወጌሠ ፡ ኢየሱስ ፡ በጽባሕ ፡ ወርእዮሙ ፡ ለሕዝብ ፡ ወዐርጉ ፡ ውእቱ ፡ ወሊቃናቲሆሙ ፡ ለእስራኤል ፡ ፍጽመ ፡ ቅድመ ፡ ሕዝብ ፡ ላዕለ ፡ ጋይ ።
Joshua rose up early in the morning, mustered the people, and went up, he and the elders of Israel, before the people to Ai.
8:11 ⧉ ⤴︎ וְכׇל ־הָעָ֨ם הַמִּלְחָמָ֜ה אֲשֶׁ֣ר אִתּ֗וֹ עָלוּ֙ וַֽיִּגְּשׁ֔וּ וַיָּבֹ֖אוּ נֶ֣גֶד הָעִ֑יר וַֽיַּחֲנוּ֙ מִצְּפ֣וֹן לָעַ֔י וְהַגַּ֖י בֵּינָ֥ו וּבֵין ־הָעָֽי ׃
καὶ πᾶς ὁ λαὸς ὁ πολεμιστὴς μετ’ αὐτοῦ ἀνέβησαν καὶ πορευόμενοι ἦλθον ἐξ ἐναντίας τῆς πόλεως ἀπ’ ἀνατολῶν
Cumque venissent et ascendissent ex adverso civitatis , steterunt ad septentrionalem urbis plagam , inter quam et eos erat vallis media .
ወዐርጉ ፡ ኵሎሙ ፡ ሕዝብ ፡ መስተቃትላን ፡ ምስሌሁ ፡ ወሶበ ፡ ሖሩ ፡ ወበጽሑ ፡ ቅድመ ፡ ሀገር ፡ እንተ ፡ መንገለ ፡ ጽባሒሃ ። ወእለሂ ፡ ዐገትዋ ፡ ለሀገር ፡ እንተ ፡ መንገለ ፡ ጽባሐ ፡ ባሕር ፡ ወተአኀዝዋ ፡ እንተ ፡ መንገለ ፡ መስዕ ፡ ለጋይ ፡ ወፂኦት ፡ ማእከሎሙ ፡ ወማእከለ ፡ ጋይ ።
All the people, even the men of war who were with him, went up and came near, and came before the city and encamped on the north side of Ai. Now there was a valley between him and Ai.
8:12 ⧉ ⤴︎ וַיִּקַּ֕ח כַּחֲמֵ֥שֶׁת אֲלָפִ֖ים אִ֑ישׁ וַיָּ֨שֶׂם אוֹתָ֜ם אֹרֵ֗ב בֵּ֧ין בֵּֽית ־אֵ֛ל וּבֵ֥ין הָעַ֖י מִיָּ֥ם לָעִֽיר ׃
καὶ τὰ ἔνεδρα τῆς πόλεως ἀπὸ θαλάσσης
Quinque autem millia viros elegerat , et posuerat in insidiis inter Bethel et Hai ex occidentali parte ejusdem civitatis :
ወነሥአ ፡ ኀምሳ ፡ ምእተ ፡ ብእሴ ፡ ወአንበሮሙ ፡ ይዕግቱ ፡ ማእከለ ፡ ቤትውን ፡ ወማእከለ ፡ ጋይ ፡ መንገለ ፡ ባሕረ ፡ ጋይ ።
He took about five thousand men, and set them in ambush between Bethel and Ai, on the west side of the city.
8:13 ⧉ ⤴︎ וַיָּשִׂ֨ימוּ הָעָ֜ם אֶת ־כׇּל ־הַֽמַּחֲנֶ֗ה אֲשֶׁר֙ מִצְּפ֣וֹן לָעִ֔יר וְאֶת ־עֲקֵב֖וֹ מִיָּ֣ם לָעִ֑יר וַיֵּ֧לֶךְ יְהוֹשֻׁ֛עַ בַּלַּ֥יְלָה הַה֖וּא בְּת֥וֹךְ הָעֵֽמֶק ׃
— omnis vero reliquus exercitus ad aquilonem aciem dirigebat , ita ut novissimi illius multitudinis occidentalem plagam urbis attingerent . Abiit ergo Josue nocte illa , et stetit in vallis medio .
ወአኅደሩ ፡ ኵሉ ፡ ሕዝብ ፡ ተዓይኒሆሙ ፡ እንተ ፡ መንገለ ፡ መስዕ ፡ ዘሀገር ፡ ወጽንፉ ፡ እስከ ፡ ባሕረ ፡ ሀገር ፡ ወሖረ ፡ ኢየሱስ ፡ በይእቲ ፡ ሌሊት ፡ ማእከለ ፡ ውእቱ ፡ ፂኦት ።
So they set the people, even all the army who was on the north of the city, and their ambush on the west of the city; and Joshua went that night into the middle of the valley.
8:14 ⧉ ⤴︎ וַיְהִ֞י כִּרְא֣וֹת מֶלֶךְ ־הָעַ֗י וַֽיְמַהֲר֡וּ וַיַּשְׁכִּ֡ימוּ וַיֵּצְא֣וּ אַנְשֵֽׁי ־הָעִ֣יר לִקְרַֽאת ־יִ֠שְׂרָאֵ֠ל לַֽמִּלְחָמָ֞ה ה֧וּא וְכׇל ־עַמּ֛וֹ לַמּוֹעֵ֖ד לִפְנֵ֣י הָעֲרָבָ֑ה וְהוּא֙ לֹ֣א יָדַ֔ע כִּֽי ־אֹרֵ֥ב ל֖וֹ מֵאַחֲרֵ֥י הָעִֽיר ׃
καὶ ἐγένετο ὡς εἶδεν βασιλεὺς Γαι ἔσπευσεν καὶ ἐξῆλθεν εἰς συνάντησιν αὐτοῖς ἐπ’ εὐθείας εἰς τὸν πόλεμον αὐτὸς καὶ πᾶς ὁ λαὸς ὁ μετ’ αὐτοῦ καὶ αὐτὸς οὐκ ᾔδει ὅτι ἔνεδρα αὐτῷ ἐστιν ὀπίσω τῆς πόλεως
Quod cum vidisset rex Hai , festinavit mane , et egressus est cum omni exercitu civitatis , direxitque aciem contra desertum , ignorans quod post tergum laterent insidiae .
ወሶበ ፡ ሰምዐ ፡ ንጉሠ ፡ ጋይ ፡ ጌሠ ፡ ፍጡነ ፡ ወወፅኡ ፡ ሰብአ ፡ ሀገር ፡ ወተቀበልዎሙ ፡ እንተ ፡ ቅድሜሆሙ ፡ ከመ ፡ ይትቃተልዎሙ ፡ ውእቱ ፡ ወኵሉ ፡ ሕዝብ ፡ ዘምስሌሁ ፡ በጊዜሃ ፡ መንጸረ ፡ አራባ ፡ ወኢያእመረ ፡ ውእቱሰ ፡ ከመ ፡ ዐገትዎሙ ፡ እንተ ፡ መንገለ ፡ ከወላሃ ፡ ለሀገር ።
When the king of Ai saw it, they hurried and rose up early, and the men of the city went out against Israel to battle, he and all his people, at the time appointed, before the Arabah; but he didn’t know that there was an ambush against him behind the city.
8:15 ⧉ ⤴︎ וַיִּנָּ֥גְע֛וּ יְהוֹשֻׁ֥עַ וְכׇל ־יִשְׂרָאֵ֖ל לִפְנֵיהֶ֑ם וַיָּנֻ֖סוּ דֶּ֥רֶךְ הַמִּדְבָּֽר ׃
καὶ εἶδεν καὶ ἀνεχώρησεν Ἰησοῦς καὶ Ισραηλ ἀπὸ προσώπου αὐτῶν
Josue vero et omnis Israël cesserunt loco , simulantes metum , et fugientes per solitudinis viam .
ወሶበ ፡ በጽሕዎሙ ፡ ጐዩ ፡ ኢየሱስ ፡ ወኵሉ ፡ እስራኤል ፡ እምቅድመ ፡ ገጾሙ ፡ ወነትዑ ፡ ውስተ ፡ ፍኖተ ፡ ገዳም ።
Joshua and all Israel made as if they were beaten before them, and fled by the way of the wilderness.
8:16 ⧉ ⤴︎ וַיִּזָּעֲק֗וּ כׇּל ־הָעָם֙ אֲשֶׁ֣ר (בעיר ) [בָּעַ֔י ] לִרְדֹּ֖ף אַחֲרֵיהֶ֑ם וַֽיִּרְדְּפוּ֙ אַֽחֲרֵ֣י יְהוֹשֻׁ֔עַ וַיִּנָּתְק֖וּ מִן ־הָעִֽיר ׃
καὶ κατεδίωξαν ὀπίσω τῶν υἱῶν Ισραηλ καὶ αὐτοὶ ἀπέστησαν ἀπὸ τῆς πόλεως
At illi vociferantes pariter , et se mutuo cohortantes , persecuti sunt eos . Cumque recessissent a civitate ,
ወኄለ ፡ ኵሉ ፡ ሕዝበ ፡ ብሔር ፡ ወተለውዎሙ ፡ ወሰደድዎሙ ፡ ወዴገንዎሙ ፡ እምድኅሬሆሙ ፡ ለደቂቀ ፡ እስራኤል ።
All the people who were in the city were called together to pursue after them. They pursued Joshua, and were drawn away from the city.
8:17 ⧉ ⤴︎ וְלֹא ־נִשְׁאַ֣ר אִ֗ישׁ בָּעַי֙ וּבֵ֣ית אֵ֔ל אֲשֶׁ֥ר לֹא ־יָצְא֖וּ אַחֲרֵ֣י יִשְׂרָאֵ֑ל וַיַּעַזְב֤וּ אֶת ־הָעִיר֙ פְּתוּחָ֔ה וַֽיִּרְדְּפ֖וּ אַחֲרֵ֥י יִשְׂרָאֵֽל ׃ {פ}
οὐ κατελείφθη οὐθεὶς ἐν τῇ Γαι ὃς οὐ κατεδίωξεν ὀπίσω Ισραηλ καὶ κατέλιπον τὴν πόλιν ἀνεῳγμένην καὶ κατεδίωξαν ὀπίσω Ισραηλ
et ne unus quidem in urbe Hai et Bethel remansisset qui non persequeretur Israël (sicut eruperant aperta oppida relinquentes ),
ወርሒቆሙ ፡ እሙንቱ ፡ እምነ ፡ ሀገር ፡ ሶበ ፡ አልቦ ፡ ዘተርፈ ፡ ወኢመኑሂ ፡ ውስተ ፡ ጋይ ፡ [ወ ]ውስተ ፡ ቤቴል ፡ ዘኢተለዎሙ ፡ ወዘኢዴገኖሙ ፡ ለእስራኤል ፡ ወኀደግዋ ፡ ለሀገር ፡ ርኁተ ፡ ወሰደድዎሙ ፡ ለእስራኤል ፡ ወደገንዎሙ ።
There was not a man left in Ai or Bethel who didn’t go out after Israel. They left the city open, and pursued Israel.
8:18 ⧉ ⤴︎ וַיֹּ֨אמֶר יְהֹוָ֜ה אֶל ־יְהוֹשֻׁ֗עַ נְ֠טֵ֠ה בַּכִּיד֤וֹן אֲשֶׁר ־בְּיָֽדְךָ֙ אֶל ־הָעַ֔י כִּ֥י בְיָדְךָ֖ אֶתְּנֶ֑נָּה וַיֵּ֧ט יְהוֹשֻׁ֛עַ בַּכִּיד֥וֹן אֲשֶׁר ־בְּיָד֖וֹ אֶל ־הָעִֽיר ׃
καὶ εἶπεν κύριος πρὸς Ἰησοῦν ἔκτεινον τὴν χεῖρά σου ἐν τῷ γαίσῳ τῷ ἐν τῇ χειρί σου ἐπὶ τὴν πόλιν εἰς γὰρ τὰς χεῖράς σου παραδέδωκα αὐτήν καὶ τὰ ἔνεδρα ἐξαναστήσονται ἐν τάχει ἐκ τοῦ τόπου αὐτῶν καὶ ἐξέτεινεν Ἰησοῦς τὴν χεῖρα αὐτοῦ τὸν γαῖσον ἐπὶ τὴν πόλιν
dixit Dominus ad Josue : Leva clypeum , qui in manu tua est , contra urbem Hai , quoniam tibi tradam eam .
ወይቤሎ ፡ እግዚአብሔር ፡ ለኢየሱስ ፡ አልዕል ፡ እዴከ ፡ በጋይሶ ፡ ዘውስተ ፡ እዴከ ፡ [ላዕለ ፡ ጋይ ፡] እስመ ፡ ውስተ ፡ እዴከ ፡ አግባእክዋ ፡ ወእለሂ ፡ ዐገቱ ፡ ለይትነሥኡ ፡ ፍጡነ ፡ እምነ ፡ መካናቲሆሙ ፡ ወአልዐለ ፡ እዴሁ ፡ ኢየሱስ ፡ በጋይሶ ፡ ላዕለ ፡ ሀገር ።
Yahweh said to Joshua, “Stretch out the javelin that is in your hand toward Ai, for I will give it into your hand.” Joshua stretched out the javelin that was in his hand toward the city.
8:19 ⧉ ⤴︎ וְהָאוֹרֵ֡ב קָם֩ מְהֵרָ֨ה מִמְּקוֹמ֤וֹ וַיָּר֙וּצוּ֙ כִּנְט֣וֹת יָד֔וֹ וַיָּבֹ֥אוּ הָעִ֖יר וַֽיִּלְכְּד֑וּהָ וַֽיְמַהֲר֔וּ וַיַּצִּ֥יתוּ אֶת ־הָעִ֖יר בָּאֵֽשׁ ׃
καὶ τὰ ἔνεδρα ἐξανέστησαν ἐν τάχει ἐκ τοῦ τόπου αὐτῶν καὶ ἐξήλθοσαν ὅτε ἐξέτεινεν τὴν χεῖρα καὶ ἤλθοσαν ἐπὶ τὴν πόλιν καὶ κατελάβοντο αὐτὴν καὶ σπεύσαντες ἐνέπρησαν τὴν πόλιν ἐν πυρί
Cumque elevasset clypeum ex adverso civitatis , insidiae , quae latebant , surrexerunt confestim : et pergentes ad civitatem , ceperunt , et succenderunt eam .
ወተንሥኡ ፡ እለሂ ፡ ዐገቱ ፡ ፍጡነ ፡ እምነ ፡ መካናቲሆሙ ፡ ወወፅኡ ፡ ሶበ ፡ አልዐለ ፡ እዴሁ ፡ በጋይሶ ፡ [ወቦኡ ፡ ሀገረ ፡] ወረከብዋ ፡ ወአውዐይዋ ፡ ፍጡነ ፡ በእሳት ።
The ambush arose quickly out of their place, and they ran as soon as he had stretched out his hand and entered into the city and took it. They hurried and set the city on fire.
8:20 ⧉ ⤴︎ וַיִּפְנ֣וּ אַנְשֵׁי֩ הָעַ֨י אַחֲרֵיהֶ֜ם וַיִּרְא֗וּ וְהִנֵּ֨ה עָלָ֜ה עֲשַׁ֤ן הָעִיר֙ הַשָּׁמַ֔יְמָה וְלֹא ־הָיָ֨ה בָהֶ֥ם יָדַ֛יִם לָנ֖וּס הֵ֣נָּה וָהֵ֑נָּה וְהָעָם֙ הַנָּ֣ס הַמִּדְבָּ֔ר נֶהְפַּ֖ךְ אֶל ־הָֽרוֹדֵֽף ׃
καὶ περιβλέψαντες οἱ κάτοικοι Γαι εἰς τὰ ὀπίσω αὐτῶν καὶ ἐθεώρουν καπνὸν ἀναβαίνοντα ἐκ τῆς πόλεως εἰς τὸν οὐρανόν καὶ οὐκέτι εἶχον ποῦ φύγωσιν ὧδε ἢ ὧδε
Viri autem civitatis , qui persequebantur Josue , respicientes et videntes fumum urbis ad caelum usque conscendere , non potuerunt ultra huc illucque diffugere : praesertim cum hi qui simulaverant fugam , et tendebant ad solitudinem , contra persequentes fortissime restitissent .
ወሶበ ፡ ነጸሩ ፡ ድኅሬሆሙ ፡ ሰብአ ፡ ጋይ ፡ ወርእዩ ፡ ጢሰ ፡ የዐርግ ፡ ውስተ ፡ ሰማይ ፡ እምውስተ ፡ ሀገሮሙ ፡ ኀጥኡ ፡ እንከ ፡ ኀበ ፡ ይጐዩ ፡ ኢለፌ ፡ ወኢለፌ ፡ ወሕዝብኒ ፡ እለ ፡ ጐዩ ፡ ውስተ ፡ ገዳም ፡ ተመይጥዎሙ ፡ ለእለ ፡ ዴገንዎሙ ።
When the men of Ai looked behind them, they saw, and behold, the smoke of the city ascended up to heaven, and they had no power to flee this way or that way. The people who fled to the wilderness turned back on the pursuers.
8:21 ⧉ ⤴︎ וִיהוֹשֻׁ֨עַ וְכׇל ־יִשְׂרָאֵ֜ל רָא֗וּ כִּֽי ־לָכַ֤ד הָאֹרֵב֙ אֶת ־הָעִ֔יר וְכִ֥י עָלָ֖ה עֲשַׁ֣ן הָעִ֑יר וַיָּשֻׁ֕בוּ וַיַּכּ֖וּ אֶת ־אַנְשֵׁ֥י הָעָֽי ׃
καὶ Ἰησοῦς καὶ πᾶς Ισραηλ εἶδον ὅτι ἔλαβον τὰ ἔνεδρα τὴν πόλιν καὶ ὅτι ἀνέβη ὁ καπνὸς τῆς πόλεως εἰς τὸν οὐρανόν καὶ μεταβαλόμενοι ἐπάταξαν τοὺς ἄνδρας τῆς Γαι
Vidensque Josue et omnis Israël quod capta esset civitas , et fumus urbis ascenderet , reversus percussit viros Hai .
ወርእየ ፡ ኢየሱስ ፡ ከመ ፡ ረከብዋ ፡ ለሀገር ፡ እለ ፡ ዐገትዋ ፡ [ወአእመሩ ፡] ሶበ ፡ ርእዩ ፡ ጢሰ ፡ የዐርግ ፡ ውስተ ፡ ሰማይ ፡ እምነ ፡ ሀገር ፡ ወእምዝ ፡ ተመይጡ ፡ ወቀተልዎሙ ፡ ለሰብአ ፡ ጋይ ።
When Joshua and all Israel saw that the ambush had taken the city, and that the smoke of the city ascended, then they turned back and killed the men of Ai.
8:22 ⧉ ⤴︎ וְאֵ֨לֶּה יָצְא֤וּ מִן ־הָעִיר֙ לִקְרָאתָ֔ם וַיִּֽהְי֤וּ לְיִשְׂרָאֵל֙ בַּתָּ֔וֶךְ אֵ֥לֶּה מִזֶּ֖ה וְאֵ֣לֶּה מִזֶּ֑ה וַיַּכּ֣וּ אוֹתָ֔ם עַד ־בִּלְתִּ֥י הִשְׁאִֽיר ־ל֖וֹ שָׂרִ֥יד וּפָלִֽיט ׃
καὶ οὗτοι ἐξήλθοσαν ἐκ τῆς πόλεως εἰς συνάντησιν καὶ ἐγενήθησαν ἀνὰ μέσον τῆς παρεμβολῆς οὗτοι ἐντεῦθεν καὶ οὗτοι ἐντεῦθεν καὶ ἐπάταξαν ἕως τοῦ μὴ καταλειφθῆναι αὐτῶν σεσωσμένον καὶ διαπεφευγότα
Siquidem et illi qui ceperant et succenderant civitatem , egressi ex urbe contra suos , medios hostium ferire coeperunt . Cum ergo ex utraque parte adversarii caederentur , ita ut nullus de tanta multitudine salvaretur ,
ወእልክቱሂ ፡ ወፅኡ ፡ እምነ ፡ ሀገር ፡ ወተቀበልዎሙ ፡ ወአግብእዎሙ ፡ ማእከለ ፡ ትዕይንቶሙ ፡ ለእስራኤል ፡ ወቀተልዎሙ ፡ ወእልክቱሂ ፡ እምከሓ ፡ ወእሉሂ ፡ እምለፌ ፡ እስከ ፡ ኢያትረፉ ፡ እምኔሆሙ ፡ ነፋጺተ ፡ ዘድኅነ ።
The others came out of the city against them, so they were in the middle of Israel, some on this side, and some on that side. They struck them, so that they let none of them remain or escape.
8:23 ⧉ ⤴︎ וְאֶת ־מֶ֥לֶךְ הָעַ֖י תָּ֣פְשׂוּ חָ֑י וַיַּקְרִ֥בוּ אֹת֖וֹ אֶל ־יְהוֹשֻֽׁעַ ׃
καὶ τὸν βασιλέα τῆς Γαι συνέλαβον ζῶντα καὶ προσήγαγον αὐτὸν πρὸς Ἰησοῦν
regem quoque urbis Hai apprehenderunt viventem , et obtulerunt Josue .
ወአኀዝዎ ፡ ለንጉሠ ፡ ጋይ ፡ ሕያዎ ፡ ወወሰድዎ ፡ ኀበ ፡ ኢየሱስ ።
They captured the king of Ai alive, and brought him to Joshua.
8:24 ⧉ ⤴︎ וַיְהִ֣י כְּכַלּ֣וֹת יִשְׂרָאֵ֡ל לַהֲרֹג֩ אֶת ־כׇּל ־יֹשְׁבֵ֨י הָעַ֜י בַּשָּׂדֶ֗ה בַּמִּדְבָּר֙ אֲשֶׁ֣ר רְדָפ֣וּם בּ֔וֹ וַֽיִּפְּל֥וּ כֻלָּ֛ם לְפִי ־חֶ֖רֶב עַד ־תֻּמָּ֑ם וַיָּשֻׁ֤בוּ כׇל ־יִשְׂרָאֵל֙ הָעַ֔י וַיַּכּ֥וּ אֹתָ֖הּ לְפִי ־חָֽרֶב ׃
καὶ ὡς ἐπαύσαντο οἱ υἱοὶ Ισραηλ ἀποκτέννοντες πάντας τοὺς ἐν τῇ Γαι τοὺς ἐν τοῖς πεδίοις καὶ ἐν τῷ ὄρει ἐπὶ τῆς καταβάσεως οὗ κατεδίωξαν αὐτοὺς ἀπ’ αὐτῆς εἰς τέλος καὶ ἀπέστρεψεν Ἰησοῦς εἰς Γαι καὶ ἐπάταξεν αὐτὴν ἐν στόματι ῥομφαίας
Igitur omnibus interfectis , qui Israëlem ad deserta tendentem fuerant persecuti , et in eodem loco gladio corruentibus , reversi filii Israël percusserunt civitatem .
ወሶበ ፡ አኅለቁ ፡ ቀቲሎቶሙ ፡ ለሰብአ ፡ ጋይ ፡ ደቂቀ ፡ እስራኤል ፡ በገዳም ፡ ወበሙራደ ፡ ደብር ፡ በኀበ ፡ ዴገንዎሙ ፡ ወቀተልዎሙ ፡ ለኵሎሙ ፡ በኀፂን ፡ ወአጥፍእዎሙ ፡ ወተመይጠ ፡ ኢየሱስ ፡ በጊዜሃ ፡ ውስተ ፡ ጋይ ፡ ወቀተላ ፡ በኀፂን ።
When Israel had finished killing all the inhabitants of Ai in the field, in the wilderness in which they pursued them, and they had all fallen by the edge of the sword until they were consumed, all Israel returned to Ai and struck it with the edge of the sword.
8:25 ⧉ ⤴︎ וַיְהִי֩ כׇל ־הַנֹּ֨פְלִ֜ים בַּיּ֤וֹם הַהוּא֙ מֵאִ֣ישׁ וְעַד ־אִשָּׁ֔ה שְׁנֵ֥ים עָשָׂ֖ר אָ֑לֶף כֹּ֖ל אַנְשֵׁ֥י הָעָֽי ׃
καὶ ἐγενήθησαν οἱ πεσόντες ἐν τῇ ἡμέρᾳ ἐκείνῃ ἀπὸ ἀνδρὸς καὶ ἕως γυναικὸς δώδεκα χιλιάδες πάντας τοὺς κατοικοῦντας Γαι
Erant autem qui in eodem die conciderant a viro usque ad mulierem , duodecim millia hominum , omnes urbis Hai .
ወኮኑ ፡ ኵሎሙ ፡ እለ ፡ ሞቱ ፡ ይእተ ፡ አሚረ ፡ ተባዕቱ ፡ ወአንስቱ ፡ እልፍ ፡ ወዕሥራ ፡ ምእት ፡ ኵሉ ፡ ሰብአ ፡ ጋይ ።
All that fell that day, both of men and women, were twelve thousand, even all the people of Ai.
8:26 ⧉ ⤴︎ וִיהוֹשֻׁ֙עַ֙ לֹא ־הֵשִׁ֣יב יָד֔וֹ אֲשֶׁ֥ר נָטָ֖ה בַּכִּיד֑וֹן עַ֚ד אֲשֶׁ֣ר הֶחֱרִ֔ים אֵ֖ת כׇּל ־יֹשְׁבֵ֥י הָעָֽי ׃
— Josue vero non contraxit manum , quam in sublime porrexerat , tenens clypeum donec interficerentur omnes habitatores Hai .
ወኢሜጠ ፡ ኢየሱስ ፡ እዴሁ ፡ እንተ ፡ አልዐለ ፡ በጋይሶ ፡ እስከ ፡ አጥፍእዎሙ ፡ ለሰብአ ፡ ጋይ ።
For Joshua didn’t draw back his hand, with which he stretched out the javelin, until he had utterly destroyed all the inhabitants of Ai.
8:27 ⧉ ⤴︎ רַ֣ק הַבְּהֵמָ֗ה וּשְׁלַל֙ הָעִ֣יר הַהִ֔יא בָּֽזְז֥וּ לָהֶ֖ם יִשְׂרָאֵ֑ל כִּדְבַ֣ר יְהֹוָ֔ה אֲשֶׁ֥ר צִוָּ֖ה אֶת ־יְהוֹשֻֽׁעַ ׃
πλὴν τῶν κτηνῶν καὶ τῶν σκύλων τῶν ἐν τῇ πόλει πάντα ἃ ἐπρονόμευσαν οἱ υἱοὶ Ισραηλ κατὰ πρόσταγμα κυρίου ὃν τρόπον συνέταξεν κύριος τῷ Ἰησοῖ
Jumenta autem et praedam civitatis diviserunt sibi filii Israël , sicut praeceperat Dominus Josue .
ዘእንበለ ፡ እንስሳ ፡ ወበርበረ ፡ ሀገር ፡ ኵሎ ፡ ዘበርበሩ ፡ ደቂቀ ፡ እስራኤል ፡ ለርእሶሙ ፡ በትእዛዘ ፡ እግዚአብሔር ፡ በከመ ፡ አዘዞ ፡ እግዚአብሔር ፡ ለኢየሱስ ።
Israel took for themselves only the livestock and the goods of that city, according to Yahweh’s word which he commanded Joshua.
8:28 ⧉ ⤴︎ וַיִּשְׂרֹ֥ף יְהוֹשֻׁ֖עַ אֶת ־הָעָ֑י וַיְשִׂימֶ֤הָ תֵּל ־עוֹלָם֙ שְׁמָמָ֔ה עַ֖ד הַיּ֥וֹם הַזֶּֽה ׃
καὶ ἐνεπύρισεν Ἰησοῦς τὴν πόλιν ἐν πυρί χῶμα ἀοίκητον εἰς τὸν αἰῶνα ἔθηκεν αὐτὴν ἕως τῆς ἡμέρας ταύτης
Qui succendit urbem , et fecit eam tumulum sempiternum :
ወአውዐያ ፡ ኢየሱስ ፡ ለሀገር ፡ በእሳት ፡ ወኮነት ፡ ሐመደ ፡ ወረሰያ ፡ ከመ ፡ አልቦ ፡ ዘይነብራ ፡ ለዘላፉ ፡ እስከ ፡ ዮም ፡ ወእስከ ፡ ዛቲ ፡ ዕለት ።
So Joshua burned Ai and made it a heap forever, even a desolation, to this day.
8:29 ⧉ ⤴︎ וְאֶת ־מֶ֧לֶךְ הָעַ֛י תָּלָ֥ה עַל ־הָעֵ֖ץ עַד ־עֵ֣ת הָעָ֑רֶב וּכְב֣וֹא הַשֶּׁ֩מֶשׁ֩ צִוָּ֨ה יְהוֹשֻׁ֜עַ וַיֹּרִ֧ידוּ אֶת ־נִבְלָת֣וֹ מִן ־הָעֵ֗ץ וַיַּשְׁלִ֤יכוּ אוֹתָהּ֙ אֶל ־פֶּ֙תַח֙ שַׁ֣עַר הָעִ֔יר וַיָּקִ֤ימוּ עָלָיו֙ גַּל ־אֲבָנִ֣ים גָּד֔וֹל עַ֖ד הַיּ֥וֹם הַזֶּֽה ׃ {פ}
καὶ τὸν βασιλέα τῆς Γαι ἐκρέμασεν ἐπὶ ξύλου διδύμου καὶ ἦν ἐπὶ τοῦ ξύλου ἕως ἑσπέρας καὶ ἐπιδύνοντος τοῦ ἡλίου συνέταξεν Ἰησοῦς καὶ καθείλοσαν αὐτοῦ τὸ σῶμα ἀπὸ τοῦ ξύλου καὶ ἔρριψαν αὐτὸν εἰς τὸν βόθρον καὶ ἐπέστησαν αὐτῷ σωρὸν λίθων ἕως τῆς ἡμέρας ταύτης
regem quoque ejus suspendit in patibulo usque ad vesperam et solis occasum . Praecepitque Josue , et deposuerunt cadaver ejus de cruce : projeceruntque in ipso introitu civitatis , congesto super eum magno acervo lapidum , qui permanet usque in praesentem diem .
ወለንጉሠ ፡ ጋይ ፡ ሰቀሎ ፡ ውስተ ፡ ዕፅ ፡ ዘግባ ፡ ወነበረ ፡ ውስተ ፡ ዕፅ ፡ እስከ ፡ ሰርክ ፡ ወሶበ ፡ ዐርበት ፡ ፀሐይ ፡ አዘዘ ፡ ኢየሱስ ፡ ወአውረድዎ ፡ እምውስተ ፡ ዕፅ ፡ ወወገርዎ ፡ ውስተ ፡ ግብ ፡ ውስተ ፡ አንቀጸ ፡ ሀገር ፡ ወገብሩ ፡ ሎቱ ፡ ነፍቀ ፡ አንተ ፡ እብን ፡ ዐባይ ፡ እስከ ፡ ዮም ፡ ወእስከ ፡ ዛቲ ፡ ዕለት ።
He hanged the king of Ai on a tree until the evening. At sundown, Joshua commanded, and they took his body down from the tree and threw it at the entrance of the gate of the city, and raised a great heap of stones on it that remains to this day.
8:30 ⧉ ⤴︎ אָ֣ז יִבְנֶ֤ה יְהוֹשֻׁ֙עַ֙ מִזְבֵּ֔חַ לַֽיהֹוָ֖ה אֱלֹהֵ֣י יִשְׂרָאֵ֑ל בְּהַ֖ר עֵיבָֽל ׃
— Tunc aedificavit Josue altare Domino Deo Israël in monte Hebal ,
ወሶበ ፡ ሰምዑ ፡ ኵሎሙ ፡ ነገሥተ ፡ አሞሬዎን ፡ እለ ፡ ሀለው ፡ ማዕዶተ ፡ ዮርዳንስ ፡ እለ ፡ ውስተ ፡ አድባር ፡ ወእለ ፡ ውስተ ፡ ገዳም ፡ ወእለ ፡ ውስተ ፡ ኵሉ ፡ ሐይቀ ፡ ባሕር ፡ ዐቢይ ፡ ወእለ ፡ ውስተ ፡ አንጢሊባኖን ፡ ወኬጤዎን ፡ ወከናኔዎን ፡ ወፌሬዜዎን ፡ ወኤዌዎን ፡ ወአሞሬዎን ፡ ወጌርጌሴዎን ፡ ወኢያቡሴዎን ፤
Then Joshua built an altar to Yahweh, the God of Israel, on Mount Ebal,
8:31 ⧉ ⤴︎ כַּֽאֲשֶׁ֣ר צִוָּה֩ מֹשֶׁ֨ה עֶֽבֶד ־יְהֹוָ֜ה אֶת ־בְּנֵ֣י יִשְׂרָאֵ֗ל כַּכָּתוּב֙ בְּסֵ֙פֶר֙ תּוֹרַ֣ת מֹשֶׁ֔ה מִזְבַּח֙ אֲבָנִ֣ים שְׁלֵמ֔וֹת אֲשֶׁ֛ר לֹא ־הֵנִ֥יף עֲלֵיהֶ֖ן בַּרְזֶ֑ל וַיַּעֲל֨וּ עָלָ֤יו עֹלוֹת֙ לַֽיהֹוָ֔ה וַֽיִּזְבְּח֖וּ שְׁלָמִֽים ׃
— sicut praeceperat Moyses famulus Domini filiis Israël , et scriptum est in volumine legis Moysi : altare vero de lapidibus impolitis , quos ferrum non tetigit : et obtulit super eo holocausta Domino , immolavitque pacificas victimas .
ተጋብኡ ፡ ኅቡረ ፡ ከመ ፡ ይፅብእዎሙ ፡ ለኢየሱስ ፡ ወለኵሉ ፡ እስራኤል ።
as Moses the servant of Yahweh commanded the children of Israel, as it is written in the book of the law of Moses: an altar of uncut stones, on which no one had lifted up any iron. They offered burnt offerings on it to Yahweh and sacrificed peace offerings.
8:32 ⧉ ⤴︎ וַיִּכְתׇּב ־שָׁ֖ם עַל ־הָאֲבָנִ֑ים אֵ֗ת מִשְׁנֵה֙ תּוֹרַ֣ת מֹשֶׁ֔ה אֲשֶׁ֣ר כָּתַ֔ב לִפְנֵ֖י בְּנֵ֥י יִשְׂרָאֵֽל ׃
— Et scripsit super lapides Deuteronomium legis Moysi , quod ille digesserat coram filiis Israël .
ወነደቀ ፡ ኢየሱስ ፡ ምሥዋዐ ፡ ይእተ ፡ አሚረ ፡ ለእግዚአብሔር ፡ አምላከ ፡ እስራኤል ፡ በደብረ ፡ ጌባል ፤
He wrote there on the stones a copy of Moses’ law, which he wrote in the presence of the children of Israel.
8:33 ⧉ ⤴︎ וְכׇל ־יִשְׂרָאֵ֡ל וּזְקֵנָ֡יו וְשֹׁטְרִ֣ים ׀וְשֹׁפְטָ֡יו עֹמְדִ֣ים מִזֶּ֣ה ׀וּמִזֶּ֣ה ׀לָאָר֡וֹן נֶ֩גֶד֩ הַכֹּהֲנִ֨ים הַלְוִיִּ֜ם נֹשְׂאֵ֣י ׀ אֲר֣וֹן בְּרִית ־יְהֹוָ֗ה כַּגֵּר֙ כָּאֶזְרָ֔ח חֶצְיוֹ֙ אֶל ־מ֣וּל הַר ־גְּרִזִ֔ים וְהַחֶצְי֖וֹ אֶל ־מ֣וּל הַר ־עֵיבָ֑ל כַּאֲשֶׁ֨ר צִוָּ֜ה מֹשֶׁ֣ה עֶבֶד ־יְהֹוָ֗ה לְבָרֵ֛ךְ אֶת ־הָעָ֥ם יִשְׂרָאֵ֖ל בָּרִאשֹׁנָֽה ׃
— Omnis autem populus , et majores natu , ducesque ac judices , stabant ex utraque parte arcae , in conspectu sacerdotum qui portabant arcam foederis Domini , ut advena , ita et indigena . Media pars eorum juxta montem Garizim , et media juxta montem Hebal , sicut praeceperat Moyses famulus Domini . Et primum quidem benedixit populo Israël .
በከመ ፡ አዘዞሙ ፡ ሙሴ ፡ ቍልዔሁ ፡ ለእግዚአብሔር ፡ ለደቂቀ ፡ እስራኤል ፡ በከመ ፡ ጽሑፍ ፡ ውስተ ፡ ሕገ ፡ ሙሴ ፡ ምሥዋዐ ፡ ዘእብን ፡ መብሐት ፡ ዘኢተወቅረ ፡ ወዘኢተገብረ ፡ በኅፂን ፡ ወአዕረገሂ ፡ ቍርባነ ፡ ለእግዚአብሔር ፡ ወመሥዋዕተ ፡ መድኀኒት ።
All Israel, with their elders, officers, and judges, stood on both sides of the ark before the Levitical priests, who carried the ark of Yahweh’s covenant, the foreigner as well as the native; half of them in front of Mount Gerizim, and half of them in front of Mount Ebal, as Moses the servant of Yahweh had commanded at the first, that they should bless the people of Israel.
8:34 ⧉ ⤴︎ וְאַחֲרֵי ־כֵ֗ן קָרָא֙ אֶת ־כׇּל ־דִּבְרֵ֣י הַתּוֹרָ֔ה הַבְּרָכָ֖ה וְהַקְּלָלָ֑ה כְּכׇל ־הַכָּת֖וּב בְּסֵ֥פֶר הַתּוֹרָֽה ׃
— Post haec legit omnia verba benedictionis et maledictionis , et cuncta quae scripta erant in legis volumine .
ወጸሐፎ ፡ ኢየሱስ ፡ ውስተ ፡ እብን ፡ ለዝክቱ ፡ ዳግም ፡ ኦሪት ፡ ሕገ ፡ ሙሴ ፡ ዘጸሐፈ ፡ በቅድሜሆሙ ፡ ለኵሉ ፡ ደቂቀ ፡ እስራኤል ።
Afterward he read all the words of the law, the blessing and the curse, according to all that is written in the book of the law.
8:35 ⧉ ⤴︎ לֹא ־הָיָ֣ה דָבָ֔ר מִכֹּ֖ל אֲשֶׁר ־צִוָּ֣ה מֹשֶׁ֑ה אֲשֶׁ֨ר לֹֽא ־קָרָ֜א יְהוֹשֻׁ֗עַ נֶ֣גֶד כׇּל ־קְהַ֤ל יִשְׂרָאֵל֙ וְהַנָּשִׁ֣ים וְהַטַּ֔ף וְהַגֵּ֖ר הַהֹלֵ֥ךְ בְּקִרְבָּֽם ׃
— Nihil ex his quae Moyses jusserat , reliquit intactum , sed universa replicavit coram omni multitudine Israël , mulieribus ac parvulis , et advenis qui inter eos morabantur .
ወኵሉ ፡ እስራኤል ፡ ወመኳንንቲሆሙ ፡ ወጸሐፍቶሙ ፡ የሐውሩ ፡ እምፀጋም ፡ ወእምየማን ፡ ቅድመ ፡ ታቦት ፡ ወካህናትሰ ፡ ወሌዋውያን ፡ ይጸውሩ ፡ ታቦተ ፡ ሕጉ ፡ ለእግዚአብሔር ፡ ወመንፈቆሙ ፡ ለግዩራን ፡ ወእለሂ ፡ እምፍጥረቶሙ ፡ ጠቃ ፡ ደብረ ፡ ጌባል ፡ ወመንፈቆሙ ፡ ጠቃ ፡ ደብረ ፡ ጋሪዝን ፡ እለ ፡ አዘዞሙ ፡ ሙሴ ፡ ቍልዔሁ ፡ ለእግዚአብሔር ፡ ከመ ፡ ይባርክዎ ፡ ለሕዝበ ፡ እስራኤል ። ወእሙንቱ ፡ ይቀውሙ ፡ ወእምድኅረ ፡ ዝንቱ ፡ አንበበ ፡ ኢየሱስ ፡ ኵሎ ፡ ነገሮ ፡ ለዝንቱ ፡ ሕግ ፡ በረከቶሂ ፡ ወመርገሞሂ ፡ ኵሎ ፡ ዘጽሑፍ ፡ ውስተ ፡ ሕገ ፡ ሙሴ ። ወአልቦ ፡ ቃለ ፡ እምነ ፡ ኵሉ ፡ ዘአዘዞ ፡ ሙሴ ፡ ለኢየሱስ ፡ ዘኢያንበበ ፡ ወዘኢያስምዖሙ ፡ ኢየሱስ ፡ ለኵሉ ፡ ተዓይነ ፡ ደቂቀ ፡ እስራኤል ፡ ለዕደዊሆሙ ፡ ወለአንስቲያሆሙ ፡ ወለደቂቆሙ ፡ ወለግዩራን ፡ እለ ፡ ሖሩ ፡ ምስለ ፡ እስራኤል ፡ (ወለኵሉ ፡ እስራኤል ፡)፡
There was not a word of all that Moses commanded which Joshua didn’t read before all the assembly of Israel, with the women, the little ones, and the foreigners who were among them.
