5:1
קְֽרָא־נָ֭א הֲיֵ֣שׁ עוֹנֶ֑ךָּ וְאֶל־מִ֖י מִקְּדֹשִׁ֣ים תִּפְנֶֽה׃
ἐπικάλεσαι δέ εἴ τίς σοι ὑπακούσεται ἢ εἴ τινα ἀγγέλων ἁγίων ὄψῃ
Voca ergo, si est qui tibi respondeat, et ad aliquem sanctorum convertere.
ጸውዕ፡ እስኩ፡ እመቦ፡ ዘያወሥአከ፡ ወእመቦ፡ እመላእክቲሁ፡ ቅዱሳን፡ ዘትሬኢ።
“Call now; is there any who will answer you? To which of the holy ones will you turn?
5:2
כִּֽי־לֶ֭אֱוִיל יַהֲרׇג־כָּ֑עַשׂ וּ֝פֹתֶ֗ה תָּמִ֥ית קִנְאָֽה׃
καὶ γὰρ ἄφρονα ἀναιρεῖ ὀργή πεπλανημένον δὲ θανατοῖ ζῆλος
Vere stultum interficit iracundia, et parvulum occidit invidia.
እስመ፡ ለዕቡድ፡ ይቀትሎ፡ መዓት፡ ወዕቡድኒ፡ ይመውት፡ በቅንአት።
For resentment kills the foolish man, and jealousy kills the simple.
5:3
אֲֽנִי־רָ֭אִיתִי אֱוִ֣יל מַשְׁרִ֑ישׁ וָאֶקּ֖וֹב נָוֵ֣הוּ פִתְאֹֽם׃
ἐγὼ δὲ ἑώρακα ἄφρονας ῥίζαν βάλλοντας ἀλλ’ εὐθέως ἐβρώθη αὐτῶν ἡ δίαιτα
Ego vidi stultum firma radice, et maledixi pulchritudini ejus statim.
አንሰ፡ ርኢኩ፡ ብቁለ፡ ሥርዎሙ፡ ለዓብዳን፡ ወበጊዜሃ፡ ጠፍአት፡ ንብረቶሙ፡ ወወፅኡ፡ እምሕይወቶሙ።
I have seen the foolish taking root, but suddenly I cursed his habitation.
5:4
יִרְחֲק֣וּ בָנָ֣יו מִיֶּ֑שַׁע וְיִֽדַּכְּא֥וּ בַ֝שַּׁ֗עַר וְאֵ֣ין מַצִּֽיל׃
πόρρω γένοιντο οἱ υἱοὶ αὐτῶν ἀπὸ σωτηρίας κολαβρισθείησαν δὲ ἐπὶ θύραις ἡσσόνων καὶ οὐκ ἔσται ὁ ἐξαιρούμενος
Longe fient filii ejus a salute, et conterentur in porta, et non erit qui eruat.
ለውሉዶሙኒ፡ ይኰርዕዎሙ፡ በውስተ፡ አናቅጽ፡ ወያመነዝዝዎሙ፡ ወአልቦ፡ ዘያድኅኖሙ።
His children are far from safety. They are crushed in the gate. Neither is there any to deliver them,
5:5
אֲשֶׁ֤ר קְצִיר֨וֹ׀ רָ֘עֵ֤ב יֹאכֵ֗ל וְאֶֽל־מִצִּנִּ֥ים יִקָּחֵ֑הוּ וְשָׁאַ֖ף צַמִּ֣ים חֵילָֽם׃
ἃ γὰρ ἐκεῖνοι συνήγαγον δίκαιοι ἔδονται αὐτοὶ δὲ ἐκ κακῶν οὐκ ἐξαίρετοι ἔσονται ἐκσιφωνισθείη αὐτῶν ἡ ἰσχύς
Cujus messem famelicus comedet, et ipsum rapiet armatus, et bibent sitientes divitias ejus.
ዘእሙንቱ፡ ዘገቡ፡ ጻድቃን፡ ይበልዑ፡ ሎሙሰ፡ ትፀብዖሙ፡ እኪት፡ ወይትመሰው፡ ኃይሎሙ።
whose harvest the hungry eat up, and take it even out of the thorns. The snare gapes for their substance.
5:6
כִּ֤י׀ לֹא־יֵצֵ֣א מֵעָפָ֣ר אָ֑וֶן וּ֝מֵאֲדָמָ֗ה לֹא־יִצְמַ֥ח עָמָֽל׃
οὐ γὰρ μὴ ἐξέλθῃ ἐκ τῆς γῆς κόπος οὐδὲ ἐξ ὀρέων ἀναβλαστήσει πόνος
Nihil in terra sine causa fit, et de humo non oritur dolor.
እስመ፡ አኮ፡ እምድር፡ ዘይወፅአ፡ ፃማ፡ ወአኮ፡ እምውስተ፡ አድባር፡ ዘይበቊል፡ ሕማም።
For affliction doesn’t come out of the dust, neither does trouble spring out of the ground;
5:7
כִּֽי־אָ֭דָם לְעָמָ֣ל יוּלָּ֑ד וּבְנֵי־רֶ֝֗שֶׁף יַגְבִּ֥יהוּ עֽוּף׃
ἀλλὰ ἄνθρωπος γεννᾶται κόπῳ νεοσσοὶ δὲ γυπὸς τὰ ὑψηλὰ πέτονται
Homo nascitur ad laborem, et avis ad volatum.
ሰብእሰ፡ ይትወለድ፡ ለሥራሕ፡ ወእጕለ፡ አዕዋፍ፡ ያሌዕሉ፡ ዖፈ።
but man is born to trouble, as the sparks fly upward.
5:8
אוּלָ֗ם אֲ֭נִי אֶדְרֹ֣שׁ אֶל־אֵ֑ל וְאֶל־אֱ֝לֹהִ֗ים אָשִׂ֥ים דִּבְרָתִֽי׃
οὐ μὴν δὲ ἀλλὰ ἐγὼ δεηθήσομαι κυρίου κύριον δὲ τὸν πάντων δεσπότην ἐπικαλέσομαι
Quam ob rem ego deprecabor Dominum, et ad Deum ponam eloquium meum :
ወባሕቱ፡ ለእግኢአብሔር፡ እስእሎ፡ ወእፄውዖ፡ ለእግዚአ፡ ኵሉ፡ ዘገብረ፡ ዓቢያተ፡ ዘአልቦ፡ ኍልቊ፡ ክቡራተ፡ ወመንክራተ፡ ዘአልቦ፡ አሠር።
“But as for me, I would seek God. I would commit my cause to God,
5:9
עֹשֶׂ֣ה גְ֭דֹלוֹת וְאֵ֣ין חֵ֑קֶר נִ֝פְלָא֗וֹת עַד־אֵ֥ין מִסְפָּֽר׃
τὸν ποιοῦντα μεγάλα καὶ ἀνεξιχνίαστα ἔνδοξά τε καὶ ἐξαίσια ὧν οὐκ ἔστιν ἀριθμός
qui facit magna et inscrutabilia, et mirabilia absque numero ;
ወገብረ፡ መንክራተ፡ ዘአልቦ፡ ኍልቊ።
who does great things that can’t be fathomed, marvelous things without number;
5:10
הַנֹּתֵ֣ן מָ֭טָר עַל־פְּנֵי־אָ֑רֶץ וְשֹׁ֥לֵֽחַ מַ֝֗יִם עַל־פְּנֵ֥י חוּצֽוֹת׃
τὸν διδόντα ὑετὸν ἐπὶ τὴν γῆν ἀποστέλλοντα ὕδωρ ἐπὶ τὴν ὑπ’ οὐρανόν
qui dat pluviam super faciem terrae, et irrigat aquis universa ;
ዘይሁብ፡ ዝናመ፡ ላዕለ፡ ምድር፡ ወይፌኑ፡ ማየ፡ መትሕተ፡ ሰማይ።
who gives rain on the earth, and sends waters on the fields;
5:11
לָשׂ֣וּם שְׁפָלִ֣ים לְמָר֑וֹם וְ֝קֹדְרִ֗ים שָׂ֣גְבוּ יֶֽשַׁע׃
τὸν ποιοῦντα ταπεινοὺς εἰς ὕψος καὶ ἀπολωλότας ἐξεγείροντα
qui ponit humiles in sublime, et moerentes erigit sospitate ;
ዘያሌሎሙ፡ ለትሑታን፡ ወያነሥኦሙ፡ ለግዱፋን።
so that he sets up on high those who are low, those who mourn are exalted to safety.
5:12
מֵ֭פֵר מַחְשְׁב֣וֹת עֲרוּמִ֑ים וְֽלֹא־תַעֲשֶׂ֥נָה יְ֝דֵיהֶ֗ם תֻּֽשִׁיָּֽה׃
διαλλάσσοντα βουλὰς πανούργων καὶ οὐ μὴ ποιήσουσιν αἱ χεῖρες αὐτῶν ἀληθές
qui dissipat cogitationes malignorum, ne possint implere manus eorum quod coeperant ;
ወይመይጥ፡ ምክሮሙ፡ ለእለ፡ በጉሕሉት፡ ወኢይገብሩ፡ ርትዐ፡ እደዊሆሙ።
He frustrates the plans of the crafty, so that their hands can’t perform their enterprise.
5:13
לֹכֵ֣ד חֲכָמִ֣ים בְּעׇרְמָ֑ם וַעֲצַ֖ת נִפְתָּלִ֣ים נִמְהָֽרָה׃
ὁ καταλαμβάνων σοφοὺς ἐν τῇ φρονήσει βουλὴν δὲ πολυπλόκων ἐξέστησεν
qui apprehendit sapientes in astutia eorum, et consilium pravorum dissipat.
ዘይእኅዞሙ፡ በምክሮሙ፡ ለጠቢባን፡ ወያጠፍአ፡ ሕሊና፡ ሆሙ፡ ለእለ፡ ይጸፍርዋ፡ ለምክር።
He takes the wise in their own craftiness; the counsel of the cunning is carried headlong.
5:14
יוֹמָ֥ם יְפַגְּשׁוּ־חֹ֑שֶׁךְ וְ֝כַלַּ֗יְלָה יְֽמַשְׁשׁ֥וּ בַֽצׇּהֳרָֽיִם׃
ἡμέρας συναντήσεται αὐτοῖς σκότος τὸ δὲ μεσημβρινὸν ψηλαφήσαισαν ἴσα νυκτί
Per diem incurrent tenebras, et quasi in nocte, sic palpabunt in meridie.
መዓልተ፡ ይትራክቦሙ፡ ጽልመት፡ ወያረመስሱ፡ ቀትረ፡ ከመ፡ ዕውር፡ ወከመ፡ ሌሊት፡ ወይትሐጐሉ፡ ውስተ፡ ቀትል።
They meet with darkness in the day time, and grope at noonday as in the night.
5:15
וַיֹּ֣שַׁע מֵ֭חֶרֶב מִפִּיהֶ֑ם וּמִיַּ֖ד חָזָ֣ק אֶבְיֽוֹן׃
ἀπόλοιντο δὲ ἐν πολέμῳ ἀδύνατος δὲ ἐξέλθοι ἐκ χειρὸς δυνάστου
Porro salvum faciet egenum a gladio oris eorum, et de manu violenti pauperem.
ወያመስጥ፡ ድኩም፡ እምእደ፡ እስመ፡ ኃያል፡ ለፅቡስሂቦ፡ ተስፋ፡ ወይትፈፀም፡ አፉሁ፡ ለዓማፂ።
But he saves from the sword of their mouth, even the needy from the hand of the mighty.
5:16
וַתְּהִ֣י לַדַּ֣ל תִּקְוָ֑ה וְ֝עֹלָ֗תָה קָ֣פְצָה פִּֽיהָ׃
εἴη δὲ ἀδυνάτῳ ἐλπίς ἀδίκου δὲ στόμα ἐμφραχθείη
Et erit egeno spes ; iniquitas autem contrahet os suum.
ወባሕቱ፡ ብፁዕ፡ ብእሲ፡ ዘእግዚአብሔር፡ ገሠዖ፡ ወኢታ፡ ስተጽሕብ፡ ተግሣዐ፡ እግዚአብሔር።
So the poor has hope, and injustice shuts her mouth.
5:17
הִנֵּ֤ה אַשְׁרֵ֣י אֱ֭נוֹשׁ יוֹכִחֶ֣נּוּ אֱל֑וֹהַּ וּמוּסַ֥ר שַׁ֝דַּ֗י אַל־תִּמְאָֽס׃
μακάριος δὲ ἄνθρωπος ὃν ἤλεγξεν ὁ κύριος νουθέτημα δὲ παντοκράτορος μὴ ἀπαναίνου
Beatus homo qui corripitur a Deo : increpationem ergo Domini ne reprobes :
እስመ፡ ውእቱ፡ ይቈስል፡ ወካዕበ፡ ይፌውስ፡ ይቀሥፍሂ፡ ወይሣሃል፡ እዴሁ።
“Behold, happy is the man whom God corrects. Therefore do not despise the chastening of the Almighty.
5:18
כִּ֤י ה֣וּא יַכְאִ֣יב וְיֶחְבָּ֑שׁ יִ֝מְחַ֗ץ וְיָדָ֥ו תִּרְפֶּֽינָה׃
αὐτὸς γὰρ ἀλγεῖν ποιεῖ καὶ πάλιν ἀποκαθίστησιν ἔπαισεν καὶ αἱ χεῖρες αὐτοῦ ἰάσαντο
quia ipse vulnerat, et medetur ; percutit, et manus ejus sanabunt.
ስድሰ፡ ያድኅነከ፡ እመንሱት፡ ወበሳብፅሰ፡ ኢትገሥሠከ፡ እኪት።
For he wounds and binds up. He injures and his hands make whole.
5:19
בְּשֵׁ֣שׁ צָ֭רוֹת יַצִּילֶ֑ךָּ וּבְשֶׁ֓בַע׀ לֹֽא־יִגַּ֖ע בְּךָ֣ רָֽע׃
ἑξάκις ἐξ ἀναγκῶν σε ἐξελεῖται ἐν δὲ τῷ ἑβδόμῳ οὐ μὴ ἅψηταί σου κακόν
In sex tribulationibus liberabit te, et in septima non tanget te malum.
እምነ፡ ረኃብ፡ ያድኅነከ፡ እሞት፡ ወበውስተ፡ ጸብዕኒ፡ እምእደ፡ ኲናት፡ ያነግፈከ።
He will deliver you in six troubles; yes, in seven no evil will touch you.
5:20
בְּֽ֭רָעָב פָּדְךָ֣ מִמָּ֑וֶת וּ֝בְמִלְחָמָ֗ה מִ֣ידֵי חָֽרֶב׃
ἐν λιμῷ ῥύσεταί σε ἐκ θανάτου ἐν πολέμῳ δὲ ἐκ χειρὸς σιδήρου λύσει σε
In fame eruet te de morte, et in bello de manu gladii.
ወይሤውረከ፡ እመቅሠፍተ፡ ልሳን፡ ወኢትፈርህ፡ እምእኪት፡ እንተ፡ ትመጽእ።
In famine he will redeem you from death; in war, from the power of the sword.
5:21
בְּשׁ֣וֹט לָ֭שׁוֹן תֵּחָבֵ֑א וְֽלֹא־תִירָ֥א מִ֝שֹּׁ֗ד כִּ֣י יָבֽוֹא׃
ἀπὸ μάστιγος γλώσσης σε κρύψει καὶ οὐ μὴ φοβηθῇς ἀπὸ κακῶν ἐρχομένων
A flagello linguae absconderis, et non timebis calamitatem cum venerit.
ወትስሕቆሙ፡ ለኃጥአን፡ ወለዐማዕን፡ ወኢትፈርህ፡ እምአራዊተ፡ ኅለት፡ ወይሰነዓዉከ፡ አራዊተ፡ ገዳም።
You will be hidden from the scourge of the tongue, neither will you be afraid of destruction when it comes.
5:22
לְשֹׁ֣ד וּלְכָפָ֣ן תִּשְׂחָ֑ק וּֽמֵחַיַּ֥ת הָ֝אָ֗רֶץ אַל־תִּירָֽא׃
ἀδίκων καὶ ἀνόμων καταγελάσῃ ἀπὸ δὲ θηρίων ἀγρίων οὐ μὴ φοβηθῇς
In vastitate et fame ridebis, et bestias terrae non formidabis.
ወሶቤሃ፡ ተአምር፡ ከመ፡ ዳኅን፡ ቤትከ፡ ወአልቦ፡ ዘይትነከይ፡ እምንብረትከ።
You will laugh at destruction and famine, neither will you be afraid of the animals of the earth.
5:23
כִּ֤י עִם־אַבְנֵ֣י הַשָּׂדֶ֣ה בְרִיתֶ֑ךָ וְחַיַּ֥ת הַ֝שָּׂדֶ֗ה הׇשְׁלְמָה־לָּֽךְ׃
θῆρες γὰρ ἄγριοι εἰρηνεύσουσίν σοι
Sed cum lapidibus regionum pactum tuum, et bestiae terrae pacificae erunt tibi.
ወትጤቅ፡ ከመ፡ ብዙኅ፡ ዘርእከ፡ ወደቂቀከኒ፡ ከመ፡ ሣዕረ፡ ፂዖት፡ ሥሙር።
For you will be allied with the stones of the field. The animals of the field will be at peace with you.
5:24
וְֽ֭יָדַעְתָּ כִּֽי־שָׁל֣וֹם אׇהֳלֶ֑ךָ וּֽפָקַדְתָּ֥ נָ֝וְךָ֗ וְלֹ֣א תֶחֱטָֽא׃
εἶτα γνώσῃ ὅτι εἰρηνεύσει σου ὁ οἶκος ἡ δὲ δίαιτα τῆς σκηνῆς σου οὐ μὴ ἁμάρτῃ
Et scies quod pacem habeat tabernaculum tuum ; et visitans speciem tuam, non peccabis.
ወተአቱ፡ ውስተ፡ መቃብሪከ፡ ከመ፡ እክለ፡ ማእረር፡ ሥሙር፡ ወከመ፡ ክምር፡ ዘኵሎ፡ ጊዜ፡ ይነሥኡ፡ እምኔሁ።
You will know that your tent is in peace. You will visit your fold, and will miss nothing.
5:25
וְֽ֭יָדַעְתָּ כִּֽי־רַ֣ב זַרְעֶ֑ךָ וְ֝צֶאֱצָאֶ֗יךָ כְּעֵ֣שֶׂב הָאָֽרֶץ׃
γνώσῃ δὲ ὅτι πολὺ τὸ σπέρμα σου τὰ δὲ τέκνα σου ἔσται ὥσπερ τὸ παμβότανον τοῦ ἀγροῦ
Scies quoque quoniam multiplex erit semen tuum, et progenies tua quasi herba terrae.
ናሁ፡ ዝ፡ አሠር፡ ዘአቅፃዕነ፡ ወዝንቱ፡ ዘሰማዕነ፡ ወአንተ፡ ባሕቱ፡ አእምር፡ ዘገበርከ።
You will know also that your offspring will be great, your offspring as the grass of the earth.
5:26
תָּב֣וֹא בְכֶ֣לַח אֱלֵי־קָ֑בֶר כַּעֲל֖וֹת גָּדִ֣ישׁ בְּעִתּֽוֹ׃
ἐλεύσῃ δὲ ἐν τάφῳ ὥσπερ σῖτος ὥριμος κατὰ καιρὸν θεριζόμενος ἢ ὥσπερ θιμωνιὰ ἅλωνος καθ’ ὥραν συγκομισθεῖσα
Ingredieris in abundantia sepulchrum, sicut infertur acervus tritici in tempore suo.
—
You will come to your grave in a full age, like a shock of grain comes in its season.
5:27
הִנֵּה־זֹ֖את חֲקַרְנ֥וּהָ כֶּֽן־הִ֑יא שְׁ֝מָעֶ֗נָּה וְאַתָּ֥ה דַֽע־לָֽךְ׃ {פ}
ἰδοὺ ταῦτα οὕτως ἐξιχνιάσαμεν ταῦτά ἐστιν ἃ ἀκηκόαμεν σὺ δὲ γνῶθι σεαυτῷ εἴ τι ἔπραξας
Ecce hoc, ut investigavimus, ita est : quod auditum, mente pertracta.
—
Behold, we have researched it. It is so. Hear it, and know it for your good.”
