3:1
אַֽחֲרֵי־כֵ֗ן פָּתַ֤ח אִיּוֹב֙ אֶת־פִּ֔יהוּ וַיְקַלֵּ֖ל אֶת־יוֹמֽוֹ׃ {פ}
μετὰ τοῦτο ἤνοιξεν Ιωβ τὸ στόμα αὐτοῦ
Post haec aperuit Job os suum, et maledixit diei suo,
ወእምድኅረዝ፡ ከሠተ፡ ኢዮብ፡ አፉሁ፡ ወረገማ፡ ለዕለት፡ እንተ፡ ባቲ፡ ተወልደ።
After this Job opened his mouth, and cursed the day of his birth.
3:2
וַיַּ֥עַן אִיּ֗וֹב וַיֹּאמַֽר׃
καὶ κατηράσατο τὴν ἡμέραν αὐτοῦ λέγων
et locutus est :
ወይቤ፡ ለትጥፋእ፡ ይእቲ፡ ዕለት፡ እንተ፡ ባቲ፡ ተወልኩ፡ ወሌሊታኒ፡ እንተ፡ ባቲ፡ ይቤሉ፡ ተባዕት፡ ውእቱ።
Job answered:
3:3
יֹ֣אבַד י֭וֹם אִוָּ֣לֶד בּ֑וֹ וְהַלַּ֥יְלָה אָ֝מַ֗ר הֹ֣רָה גָֽבֶר׃
ἀπόλοιτο ἡ ἡμέρα ἐν ᾗ ἐγεννήθην καὶ ἡ νύξ ἐν ᾗ εἶπαν ἰδοὺ ἄρσεν
Pereat dies in qua natus sum, et nox in qua dictum est : Conceptus est homo.
ለትጽልም፡ ይእቲ፡ ዕለት፡ ወኢይትኃሠሣ፡ እግዚአብሔር፡ በላዕሉ፡ ወኢይምጻእ፡ ብርሃን፡ ውስቴታ።
“Let the day perish in which I was born, the night which said, ‘There is a boy conceived.’
3:4
הַיּ֥וֹם הַה֗וּא יְֽהִ֫י־חֹ֥שֶׁךְ אַֽל־יִדְרְשֵׁ֣הוּ אֱל֣וֹהַּ מִמַּ֑עַל וְאַל־תּוֹפַ֖ע עָלָ֣יו נְהָרָֽה׃
ἡ ἡμέρα ἐκείνη εἴη σκότος καὶ μὴ ἀναζητήσαι αὐτὴν ὁ κύριος ἄνωθεν μηδὲ ἔλθοι εἰς αὐτὴν φέγγος
Dies ille vertatur in tenebras : non requirat eum Deus desuper, et non illustretur lumine.
ወይርከባ፡ ጽልመት፡ ወይድፍና፡ ጽላሎተ፡ ሞት፡ ወይም፡ ጽኣ፡ ቆባር፡ ርግምተ፡ ለትኩን፡ ይእቲ፡ ዕለት።
Let that day be darkness. Don’t let God from above seek for it, neither let the light shine on it.
3:5
יִגְאָלֻ֡הוּ חֹ֣שֶׁךְ וְ֭צַלְמָוֶת תִּשְׁכׇּן־עָלָ֣יו עֲנָנָ֑ה יְ֝בַעֲתֻ֗הוּ כִּֽמְרִ֥ירֵי יֽוֹם׃
ἐκλάβοι δὲ αὐτὴν σκότος καὶ σκιὰ θανάτου ἐπέλθοι ἐπ’ αὐτὴν γνόφος
Obscurent eum tenebrae et umbra mortis ; occupet eum caligo, et involvatur amaritudine.
ወይምጽኣ፡ ጽልመት፡ ለይእቲ፡ ሌሊት፡ ወኢተሀሉ፡ ውስተ፡ መዋዕለ፡ ዓመት፡ ወኢትትኈለቊ፡ ውስተ፡ መዋዕለ፡ አውራኅ።
Let darkness and the shadow of death claim it for their own. Let a cloud dwell on it. Let all that makes the day black terrify it.
3:6
הַלַּ֥יְלָה הַהוּא֮ יִקָּחֵ֢ה֫וּ אֹ֥פֶל אַל־יִ֭חַדְּ בִּימֵ֣י שָׁנָ֑ה בְּמִסְפַּ֥ר יְ֝רָחִ֗ים אַל־יָבֹֽא׃
καταραθείη ἡ ἡμέρα καὶ ἡ νὺξ ἐκείνη ἀπενέγκαιτο αὐτὴν σκότος μὴ εἴη εἰς ἡμέρας ἐνιαυτοῦ μηδὲ ἀριθμηθείη εἰς ἡμέρας μηνῶν
Noctem illam tenebrosus turbo possideat ; non computetur in diebus anni, nec numeretur in mensibus.
ወለይእቲ፡ ዕለት፡ ፃዕር፡ ለይርከባ፡ ወኢይምጻእ፡ ውስቴታ፡ ፍሥሓ፡ ወኃሤት።
As for that night, let thick darkness seize on it. Let it not rejoice among the days of the year. Let it not come into the number of the months.
3:7
הִנֵּ֤ה הַלַּ֣יְלָה הַ֭הוּא יְהִ֣י גַלְמ֑וּד אַל־תָּב֖וֹא רְנָנָ֣ה בֽוֹ׃
ἀλλὰ ἡ νὺξ ἐκείνη εἴη ὀδύνη καὶ μὴ ἔλθοι ἐπ’ αὐτὴν εὐφροσύνη μηδὲ χαρμονή
Sit nox illa solitaria, nec laude digna.
ዳእሙ፡ ይርግማ፡ ዘረገማ፡ ለይእቲ፡ ዕለት፡ ዘሀለዎ፡ ይምትሮ፡ ለዓቢይ፡ አንበሪ።
Behold, let that night be barren. Let no joyful voice come therein.
3:8
יִקְּבֻ֥הוּ אֹֽרְרֵי־י֑וֹם הָ֝עֲתִידִ֗ים עֹרֵ֥ר לִוְיָתָֽן׃
ἀλλὰ καταράσαιτο αὐτὴν ὁ καταρώμενος τὴν ἡμέραν ἐκείνην ὁ μέλλων τὸ μέγα κῆτος χειρώσασθαι
Maledicant ei qui maledicunt diei, qui parati sunt suscitare Leviathan.
ለይጽልሙ፡ ከዋክብቲሃ፡ ለይእቲ፡ ሌሊት፡ ወይንበሩ፡ ኀበ፡ ኢይሬእዩ፡ ብርሃነ።
Let them curse it who curse the day, who are ready to rouse up leviathan.
3:9
יֶחְשְׁכוּ֮ כּוֹכְבֵ֢י נִ֫שְׁפּ֥וֹ יְקַו־לְא֥וֹר וָאַ֑יִן וְאַל־יִ֝רְאֶ֗ה בְּעַפְעַפֵּי־שָֽׁחַר׃
σκοτωθείη τὰ ἄστρα τῆς νυκτὸς ἐκείνης ὑπομείναι καὶ εἰς φωτισμὸν μὴ ἔλθοι καὶ μὴ ἴδοι ἑωσφόρον ἀνατέλλοντα
Obtenebrentur stellae caligine ejus ; expectet lucem, et non videat, nec ortum surgentis aurorae.
እሰመ፡ ኢዓፀዉ፡ አንቀጸ፡ ከርሣ፡ ለእምየ፡ ወኢይርእዩ፡ ቤዘ፡ እንዘ፡ ይሠርቅ፡ ዘኢያእተቱ፡ ሕማመ፡ እምአዕይንትየ።
Let the stars of its twilight be dark. Let it look for light, but have none, neither let it see the eyelids of the morning,
3:10
כִּ֤י לֹ֣א סָ֭גַר דַּלְתֵ֣י בִטְנִ֑י וַיַּסְתֵּ֥ר עָ֝מָ֗ל מֵעֵינָֽי׃
ὅτι οὐ συνέκλεισεν πύλας γαστρὸς μητρός μου ἀπήλλαξεν γὰρ ἂν πόνον ἀπὸ ὀφθαλμῶν μου
Quia non conclusit ostia ventris qui portavit me, nec abstulit mala ab oculis meis.
ለምንት፡ በውስተ፡ ከርሥ፡ ኢሞትኩ፡ ወወፂእየኒ፡ እምከርሥ፡ ዘኢተኃጐልኩ፡ ሶቤሃ።
because it didn’t shut up the doors of my mother’s womb, nor did it hide trouble from my eyes.
3:11
לָ֤מָּה לֹּ֣א מֵרֶ֣חֶם אָמ֑וּת מִבֶּ֖טֶן יָצָ֣אתִי וְאֶגְוָֽע׃
διὰ τί γὰρ ἐν κοιλίᾳ οὐκ ἐτελεύτησα ἐκ γαστρὸς δὲ ἐξῆλθον καὶ οὐκ εὐθὺς ἀπωλόμην
Quare non in vulva mortuus sum ? egressus ex utero non statim perii ?
ለምንት፡ ጸንዐ፡ ብረክየ፡ ወለምንት፡ ተሐፀንኩ፡ በጥብ።
“Why didn’t I die from the womb? Why didn’t I give up the spirit when my mother bore me?
3:12
מַ֭דּוּעַ קִדְּמ֣וּנִי בִרְכָּ֑יִם וּמַה־שָּׁ֝דַ֗יִם כִּ֣י אִינָֽק׃
ἵνα τί δὲ συνήντησάν μοι γόνατα ἵνα τί δὲ μαστοὺς ἐθήλασα
Quare exceptus genibus ? cur lactatus uberibus ?
ሶበ፡ ሰከብኩ፡ አሜሃ፡ ይእዜ፡ እምአርመምኩ፡ ወሶበሂ፡ ኖምኩ፡ አሜሃ፡ እምአዕረፍኩ፡ ይእዜ።
Why did the knees receive me? Or why the breast, that I should nurse?
3:13
כִּֽי־עַ֭תָּה שָׁכַ֣בְתִּי וְאֶשְׁק֑וֹט יָ֝שַׁ֗נְתִּי אָ֤ז׀ יָנ֬וּחַֽ לִֽי׃
νῦν ἂν κοιμηθεὶς ἡσύχασα ὑπνώσας δὲ ἀνεπαυσάμην
Nunc enim dormiens silerem, et somno meo requiescerem
ምስለ፡ ነገሥት፡ እለ፡ መከሩ፡ እኩየ፡ በዲበ፡ ምድር፡ ወኰነኑ፡ በመጥባሕት።
For now I should have lain down and been quiet. I should have slept, then I would have been at rest,
3:14
עִם־מְ֭לָכִים וְיֹ֣עֲצֵי אָ֑רֶץ הַבֹּנִ֖ים חֳרָב֣וֹת לָֽמוֹ׃
μετὰ βασιλέων βουλευτῶν γῆς οἳ ἠγαυριῶντο ἐπὶ ξίφεσιν
cum regibus et consulibus terrae, qui aedificant sibi solitudines ;
አው፡ ምስለ፡ መላእክት፡ ወአብዕልት፡ እለ፡ አብዝኅዎ፡ ለወርቅ፡ ወመልኡ፡ አብያቲሆሙ፡ ብሩረ።
with kings and counselors of the earth, who built up waste places for themselves;
3:15
א֣וֹ עִם־שָׂ֭רִים זָהָ֣ב לָהֶ֑ם הַֽמְמַלְאִ֖ים בָּתֵּיהֶ֣ם כָּֽסֶף׃
ἢ μετὰ ἀρχόντων ὧν πολὺς ὁ χρυσός οἳ ἔπλησαν τοὺς οἴκους αὐτῶν ἀργυρίου
aut cum principibus qui possident aurum, et replent domos suas argento ;
ወሶበኒ፡ ኮንኩ፡ ከመ፡ ፃዕፃፅ፡ ዘአድሐጾቶ፡ ማኅፀነ፡ እሙ።
or with princes who had gold, who filled their houses with silver;
3:16
א֤וֹ כְנֵ֣פֶל טָ֭מוּן לֹ֣א אֶהְיֶ֑ה כְּ֝עֹלְלִ֗ים לֹא־רָ֥אוּ אֽוֹר׃
ἢ ὥσπερ ἔκτρωμα ἐκπορευόμενον ἐκ μήτρας μητρὸς ἢ ὥσπερ νήπιοι οἳ οὐκ εἶδον φῶς
aut sicut abortivum absconditum non subsisterem, vel qui concepti non viderunt lucem.
ህየ፡ ኃጥአን፡ የኃድጉ፡ ድንጋፄ፡ ወይውዕዩ፡ በመቅሠፍተ፡ መዓቱ።
or as a hidden untimely birth I had not been, as infants who never saw light.
3:17
שָׁ֣ם רְ֭שָׁעִים חָ֣דְלוּ רֹ֑גֶז וְשָׁ֥ם יָ֝נ֗וּחוּ יְגִ֣יעֵי כֹֽחַ׃
ἐκεῖ ἀσεβεῖς ἐξέκαυσαν θυμὸν ὀργῆς ἐκεῖ ἀνεπαύσαντο κατάκοποι τῷ σώματι
Ibi impii cessaverunt a tumultu, et ibi requieverunt fessi robore.
ወህየ፡ የዓርፉ፡ እለሂ፡ ተዕፅሩ፡ በሥጋሆሙ፡ ኅቡረ፡ እምፍ፡ ጥረተ፡ ዓለም።
There the wicked cease from troubling. There the weary are at rest.
3:18
יַ֭חַד אֲסִירִ֣ים שַׁאֲנָ֑נוּ לֹ֥א שָׁ֝מְע֗וּ ק֣וֹל נֹגֵֽשׂ׃
ὁμοθυμαδὸν δὲ οἱ αἰώνιοι οὐκ ἤκουσαν φωνὴν φορολόγου
Et quondam vincti pariter sine molestia, non audierunt vocem exactoris.
ህየ፡ ሀለዉ፡ ንኡሳን፡ ወዓቢያን፡ ሕፃናትሂ፡ እለ፡ ኢርእዩ፡ ብርሃነ፡ ወኢሰምዑ፡ ድምፀ፡ ዘያንሶሱ፡ ህየ፡ ሀለዉ፡ ገብርሂ፡ ዘአድለወ፡ ለእግዚኡ፡ ህየ፡ ሀለወ።
There the prisoners are at ease together. They don’t hear the voice of the taskmaster.
3:19
קָטֹ֣ן וְ֭גָדוֹל שָׁ֣ם ה֑וּא וְ֝עֶ֗בֶד חׇפְשִׁ֥י מֵאֲדֹנָֽיו׃
μικρὸς καὶ μέγας ἐκεῖ ἐστιν καὶ θεράπων οὐ δεδοικὼς τὸν κύριον αὐτοῦ
Parvus et magnus ibi sunt, et servus liber a domino suo.
ለምንት፡ ወሀብኮሙ፡ ብርሃነ፡ ለምሩራን፡ ወሕይወተ፡ ለዕዑራነ፡ ነፍስ።
The small and the great are there. The servant is free from his master.
3:20
לָ֤מָּה יִתֵּ֣ן לְעָמֵ֣ל א֑וֹר וְ֝חַיִּ֗ים לְמָ֣רֵי נָֽפֶשׁ׃
ἵνα τί γὰρ δέδοται τοῖς ἐν πικρίᾳ φῶς ζωὴ δὲ ταῖς ἐν ὀδύναις ψυχαῖς
Quare misero data est lux, et vita his qui in amaritudine animae sunt :
እለ፡ ይትሜነይዎ፡ ለሞት፡ ወኢይረክብዎ፡ ወይፈርህዎ፡ ከመ፡ መድፍን፡ ወይትፌሥሑ፡ ለእመ፡ አድንዕዎ፡ ዕረፍቱ፡ ለሰብእ፡ ሞት፡ ወዓዐዎ፡ እግዚአብሔር፡ እምአፍሁ።
“Why is light given to him who is in misery, life to the bitter in soul,
3:21
הַֽמְחַכִּ֣ים לַמָּ֣וֶת וְאֵינֶ֑נּוּ וַֽ֝יַּחְפְּרֻ֗הוּ מִמַּטְמוֹנִֽים׃
οἳ ὁμείρονται τοῦ θανάτου καὶ οὐ τυγχάνουσιν ἀνορύσσοντες ὥσπερ θησαυρούς
qui expectant mortem, et non venit, quasi effodientes thesaurum ;
ወአምድኅረ፡ ማእረርየ፡ ረከበተኒ፡ መቅሠፍትየ።
who long for death, but it doesn’t come; and dig for it more than for hidden treasures,
3:22
הַשְּׂמֵחִ֥ים אֱלֵי־גִ֑יל יָ֝שִׂ֗ישׂוּ כִּ֣י יִמְצְאוּ־קָֽבֶר׃
περιχαρεῖς δὲ ἐγένοντο ἐὰν κατατύχωσιν
gaudentque vehementer cum invenerint sepulchrum ?
እበኪ፡ በእንተ፡ ግሩም፡ ዘረከበኒ፡ ወፍርሃት፡ እንተ፡ ኢተሐዘብኩ፡ ረከበተኒ፡ ወእንተ፡ ኢሐለይኩ፡ ተዳደቀተኒ።
who rejoice exceedingly, and are glad, when they can find the grave?
3:23
לְ֭גֶבֶר אֲשֶׁר־דַּרְכּ֣וֹ נִסְתָּ֑רָה וַיָּ֖סֶךְ אֱל֣וֹהַּ בַּעֲדֽוֹ׃
θάνατος ἀνδρὶ ἀνάπαυμα συνέκλεισεν γὰρ ὁ θεὸς κατ’ αὐτοῦ
viro cujus abscondita est via et circumdedit eum Deus tenebris ?
ኢያርመምኩ፡ ወኢያዕረፍኩ፡ ወኢድኅንኩ፡ ወበጽሐኒ፡ መቅሠፍት፡ ወመንሱት።
Why is light given to a man whose way is hidden, whom God has hedged in?
3:24
כִּֽי־לִפְנֵ֣י לַ֭חְמִי אַנְחָתִ֣י תָבֹ֑א וַֽיִּתְּכ֥וּ כַ֝מַּ֗יִם שַׁאֲגֹתָֽי׃
πρὸ γὰρ τῶν σίτων μου στεναγμός μοι ἥκει δακρύω δὲ ἐγὼ συνεχόμενος φόβῳ
Antequam comedam, suspiro ; et tamquam inundantes aquae, sic rugitus meus :
—
For my sighing comes before I eat. My groanings are poured out like water.
3:25
כִּ֤י פַ֣חַד פָּ֭חַדְתִּי וַיֶּאֱתָיֵ֑נִי וַאֲשֶׁ֥ר יָ֝גֹ֗רְתִּי יָ֣בֹא לִֽי׃
φόβος γάρ ὃν ἐφρόντισα ἦλθέν μοι καὶ ὃν ἐδεδοίκειν συνήντησέν μοι
quia timor quem timebam evenit mihi, et quod verebar accidit.
—
For the thing which I fear comes on me, that which I am afraid of comes to me.
3:26
לֹ֤א שָׁלַ֨וְתִּי׀ וְלֹ֖א שָׁקַ֥טְתִּי וְֽלֹא־נָ֗חְתִּי וַיָּ֥בֹא רֹֽגֶז׃ {פ}
οὔτε εἰρήνευσα οὔτε ἡσύχασα οὔτε ἀνεπαυσάμην ἦλθεν δέ μοι ὀργή
Nonne dissimulavi ? nonne silui ? nonne quievi ? et venit super me indignatio.
—
I am not at ease, neither am I quiet, neither do I have rest; but trouble comes.”
