1:1 ⧉ ⤴︎ בִּשְׁנַ֤ת שְׁתַּ֙יִם֙ לְדָרְיָ֣וֶשׁ הַמֶּ֔לֶךְ בַּחֹ֙דֶשׁ֙ הַשִּׁשִּׁ֔י בְּי֥וֹם אֶחָ֖ד לַחֹ֑דֶשׁ הָיָ֨ה דְבַר ־יְהֹוָ֜ה בְּיַד ־חַגַּ֣י הַנָּבִ֗יא אֶל ־זְרֻבָּבֶ֤ל בֶּן ־שְׁאַלְתִּיאֵל֙ פַּחַ֣ת יְהוּדָ֔ה וְאֶל ־יְהוֹשֻׁ֧עַ בֶּן ־יְהוֹצָדָ֛ק הַכֹּהֵ֥ן הַגָּד֖וֹל לֵאמֹֽר ׃
ἐν τῷ δευτέρῳ ἔτει ἐπὶ Δαρείου τοῦ βασιλέως ἐν τῷ μηνὶ τῷ ἕκτῳ μιᾷ τοῦ μηνὸς ἐγένετο λόγος κύριου ἐν χειρὶ Αγγαιου τοῦ προφήτου λέγων εἰπὸν δὴ πρὸς Ζοροβαβελ τὸν τοῦ Σαλαθιηλ ἐκ φυλῆς Ιουδα καὶ πρὸς Ἰησοῦν τὸν τοῦ Ιωσεδεκ τὸν ἱερέα τὸν μέγαν λέγων
In anno secundo Darii regis , in mense sexto , in die una mensis , factum est verbum Domini in manu Aggaei prophetae , ad Zorobabel , filium Salathiel , ducem Juda , et ad Jesum , filium Josedec , sacerdotem magnum , dicens :
በካልእ ፡ ዓመተ ፡ መንግሥቱ ፡ ለዳርዩስ ፡ ንጉሥ ፡ በሳድስ ፡ ወርኃ ፡ አመ ፡ ሠርቅ ፡ ኮነ ፡ ቃለ ፡ እግዚአብሔር ፡ በእደ ፡ ሐጌ ፡ ነቢይ ፡ ወይቤ ፡ በሎ ፡ ለዘሩባቤል ፡ ወልደ ፡ ሳላያል ፡ ዘሕዝብ ፡ ይሁዳ ፡ ወለዮሴዕለ ፡ ወልደ ፡ ዮሴዴቅ ፡ ካህን ፡ ዓቢይ ፡ ወበሎም ።
In the second year of Darius the king, in the sixth month, in the first day of the month, Yahweh’s word came by Haggai the prophet, to Zerubbabel the son of Shealtiel, governor of Judah, and to Joshua the son of Jehozadak, the high priest, saying,
1:2 ⧉ ⤴︎ כֹּ֥ה אָמַ֛ר יְהֹוָ֥ה צְבָא֖וֹת לֵאמֹ֑ר הָעָ֤ם הַזֶּה֙ אָֽמְר֔וּ לֹ֥א עֶת ־בֹּ֛א עֶת ־בֵּ֥ית יְהֹוָ֖ה לְהִבָּנֽוֹת ׃ {פ}
τάδε λέγει κύριος παντοκράτωρ λέγων ὁ λαὸς οὗτος λέγουσιν οὐχ ἥκει ὁ καιρὸς τοῦ οἰκοδομῆσαι τὸν οἶκον κυρίου
Haec ait Dominus exercituum , dicens : Populus iste dicit : Nondum venit tempus domus Domini aedificandae .
ከመዝ ፡ ይቤ ፡ እግዚአብሔር ፡ ዘኩሉ ፡ ይመልክ ፡ ዝንቱ ፡ ሕዝብ ፡ ይብሉ ፡ ኢብጽሐ ፡ ጊዜ ፡ ለሐኒፆ ፡ ቤተ ፡ እግዚአብሔር ።
“This is what Yahweh of Armies says: These people say, ‘The time hasn’t yet come, the time for Yahweh’s house to be built.’”
1:3 ⧉ ⤴︎ וַֽיְהִי֙ דְּבַר ־יְהֹוָ֔ה בְּיַד ־חַגַּ֥י הַנָּבִ֖יא לֵאמֹֽר ׃
καὶ ἐγένετο λόγος κυρίου ἐν χειρὶ Αγγαιου τοῦ προφήτου λέγων
Et factum est verbum Domini in manu Aggaei prophetae , dicens :
ወኮነ ፡ ቃለ ፡ እግዚአብሔር ፡ በእዶ ፡ ሐጌ ፡ ነብይ ፡ ወይበሌ ።
Then Yahweh’s word came by Haggai the prophet, saying,
1:4 ⧉ ⤴︎ הַעֵ֤ת לָכֶם֙ אַתֶּ֔ם לָשֶׁ֖בֶת בְּבָתֵּיכֶ֣ם סְפוּנִ֑ים וְהַבַּ֥יִת הַזֶּ֖ה חָרֵֽב ׃
εἰ καιρὸς ὑμῖν μέν ἐστιν τοῦ οἰκεῖν ἐν οἴκοις ὑμῶν κοιλοστάθμοις ὁ δὲ οἶκος οὗτος ἐξηρήμωται
Numquid tempus vobis est ut habitetis in domibus laqueatis , et domus ista deserta ?
እመ ፡ ጊዜሁ ፡ ለክሙ ፡ ትንበሩ ፡ ዉስተ ፡ ልገታተ ፡ ቀላያት ፡ ወዝኒ ፡ ቤትየ ፡ ይመዘብር ።
“Is it a time for you yourselves to dwell in your paneled houses, while this house lies waste?
1:5 ⧉ ⤴︎ וְעַתָּ֕ה כֹּ֥ה אָמַ֖ר יְהֹוָ֣ה צְבָא֑וֹת שִׂ֥ימוּ לְבַבְכֶ֖ם עַל ־דַּרְכֵיכֶֽם ׃
καὶ νῦν τάδε λέγει κύριος παντοκράτωρ τάξατε δὴ τὰς καρδίας ὑμῶν εἰς τὰς ὁδοὺς ὑμῶν
Et nunc haec dicit Dominus exercituum : Ponite corda vestra super vias vestras .
ወይእዜኒ ፡ ከመዝ ፡ ይቤ ፡ እግዚአብሔር ፡ ዘኩሎ ፡ ይመልክ ፡ ሐልዩ ፡ እስኩ ፡ በልብክሙ ፡ ፍናዊክሙ ።
Now therefore this is what Yahweh of Armies says: ‘Consider your ways.
1:6 ⧉ ⤴︎ זְרַעְתֶּ֨ם הַרְבֵּ֜ה וְהָבֵ֣א מְעָ֗ט אָכ֤וֹל וְאֵין ־לְשׇׂבְעָה֙ שָׁת֣וֹ וְאֵין ־לְשׇׁכְרָ֔ה לָב֖וֹשׁ וְאֵין ־לְחֹ֣ם ל֑וֹ וְהַ֨מִּשְׂתַּכֵּ֔ר מִשְׂתַּכֵּ֖ר אֶל ־צְר֥וֹר נָקֽוּב ׃ {פ}
ἐσπείρατε πολλὰ καὶ εἰσηνέγκατε ὀλίγα ἐφάγετε καὶ οὐκ εἰς πλησμονήν ἐπίετε καὶ οὐκ εἰς μέθην περιεβάλεσθε καὶ οὐκ ἐθερμάνθητε ἐν αὐτοῖς καὶ ὁ τοὺς μισθοὺς συνάγων συνήγαγεν εἰς δεσμὸν τετρυπημένον
Seminastis multum , et intulistis parum ; comedistis , et non estis satiati ; bibistis , et non estis inebriati ; operuistis vos , et non estis calefacti ; et qui mercedes congregavit , misit eas in sacculum pertusum .
ዘሪኩም ፡ ብዙኀ ፡ ወአእተዉክሙ ፡ ኀዳጠ ፡ ትበልዑ ፡ ወኢትጸግቡ ፡ ትስትዩ ፡ ወኢትረዉዩ ፡ ትትከደኑ ፡ ወኢትመዉቅ ፡ ወዘያስተጋብዕ ፡ ዓስቦ ፡ አስተጋብኦ ፡ ዉሰተ ፡ ዕቁር ፡ ስቁር ።
You have sown much, and bring in little. You eat, but you don’t have enough. You drink, but you aren’t filled with drink. You clothe yourselves, but no one is warm; and he who earns wages earns wages to put them into a bag with holes in it.’
1:7 ⧉ ⤴︎ כֹּ֥ה אָמַ֖ר יְהֹוָ֣ה צְבָא֑וֹת שִׂ֥ימוּ לְבַבְכֶ֖ם עַל ־דַּרְכֵיכֶֽם ׃
τάδε λέγει κύριος παντοκράτωρ θέσθε τὰς καρδίας ὑμῶν εἰς τὰς ὁδοὺς ὑμῶν
Haec dicit Dominus exercituum : Ponite corda vestra super vias vestras ;
ከመዝ ፡ ይቤ ፡ እግዚአብሔር ፡ ዘኩሉ ፡ ይመልክ ፡ ሐልዩ ፡ ፍናዊክሙ ።
“This is what Yahweh of Armies says: ‘Consider your ways.
1:8 ⧉ ⤴︎ עֲל֥וּ הָהָ֛ר וַהֲבֵאתֶ֥ם עֵ֖ץ וּבְנ֣וּ הַבָּ֑יִת וְאֶרְצֶה ־בּ֥וֹ (ואכבד ) [וְאֶכָּבְדָ֖ה ] אָמַ֥ר יְהֹוָֽה ׃
ἀνάβητε ἐπὶ τὸ ὄρος καὶ κόψατε ξύλα καὶ οἰκοδομήσατε τὸν οἶκον καὶ εὐδοκήσω ἐν αὐτῷ καὶ ἐνδοξασθήσομαι εἶπεν κύριος
ascendite in montem , portate ligna , et aedificate domum : et acceptabilis mihi erit , et glorificabor , dicit Dominus .
ዕርጉ ፡ ደብረ ፡ ወግዝሙ ፡ ዕፀወ ፡ ወሕንጹ ፡ ቤተ ፡ ወእሠምሮ ፡ ወእሴባሕ ፡ ይቤ ፡ እግዚአብሔር ።
Go up to the mountain, bring wood, and build the house. I will take pleasure in it, and I will be glorified,” says Yahweh.
1:9 ⧉ ⤴︎ פָּנֹ֤ה אֶל ־הַרְבֵּה֙ וְהִנֵּ֣ה לִמְעָ֔ט וַהֲבֵאתֶ֥ם הַבַּ֖יִת וְנָפַ֣חְתִּי ב֑וֹ יַ֣עַן מֶ֗ה נְאֻם֙ יְהֹוָ֣ה צְבָא֔וֹת יַ֗עַן בֵּיתִי֙ אֲשֶׁר ־ה֣וּא חָרֵ֔ב וְאַתֶּ֥ם רָצִ֖ים אִ֥ישׁ לְבֵיתֽוֹ ׃
ἐπεβλέψατε εἰς πολλά καὶ ἐγένετο ὀλίγα καὶ εἰσηνέχθη εἰς τὸν οἶκον καὶ ἐξεφύσησα αὐτά διὰ τοῦτο τάδε λέγει κύριος παντοκράτωρ ἀνθ’ ὧν ὁ οἶκός μού ἐστιν ἔρημος ὑμεῖς δὲ διώκετε ἕκαστος εἰς τὸν οἶκον αὐτοῦ
Respexistis ad amplius , et ecce factum est minus ; et intulistis in domum , et exsufflavi illud : quam ob causam ? dicit Dominus exercituum : quia domus mea deserta est , et vos festinatis unusquisque in domum suam .
ርኢክሙ ፡ ብዙኀ ፡ ወኮነ ፡ ኀዳጠ ፡ ወአባእከሙ ፡ ቤተ ፡ ወነፈኀክዋ ፡ በእንተ ፡ ዝንቱ ፡ ከመዝ ፡ ይቤ ፡ እግዚአብሔር ፡ ዘኩሎ ፡ ይመልክ ፡ እስመ ፡ ቤትየ ፡ መዝበረ ፡ ወአንትሙስ ፡ ታጸንዑ ፡ አብያቲክሙ ፡ ኩልከሙ ።
“You looked for much, and, behold, it came to little; and when you brought it home, I blew it away. Why?” says Yahweh of Armies, “Because of my house that lies waste, while each of you is busy with his own house.
1:10 ⧉ ⤴︎ עַל ־כֵּ֣ן עֲלֵיכֶ֔ם כָּלְא֥וּ שָׁמַ֖יִם מִטָּ֑ל וְהָאָ֖רֶץ כָּלְאָ֥ה יְבוּלָֽהּ ׃
διὰ τοῦτο ἀνέξει ὁ οὐρανὸς ἀπὸ δρόσου καὶ ἡ γῆ ὑποστελεῖται τὰ ἐκφόρια αὐτῆς
Propter hoc super vos prohibiti sunt caeli ne darent rorem , et terra prohibita est ne daret germen suum :
በእንተ ፡ ዝንቱ ፡ ታቀዉም ፡ ሰማይ ፡ ዝናመ ፡ ምላዕሉ ፡ ወምድርኒ ፡ ኢትሁብ ፡ ፍሬሃ ።
Therefore for your sake the heavens withhold the dew, and the earth withholds its fruit.
1:11 ⧉ ⤴︎ וָאֶקְרָ֨א חֹ֜רֶב עַל ־הָאָ֣רֶץ וְעַל ־הֶהָרִ֗ים וְעַל ־הַדָּגָן֙ וְעַל ־הַתִּיר֣וֹשׁ וְעַל ־הַיִּצְהָ֔ר וְעַ֛ל אֲשֶׁ֥ר תּוֹצִ֖יא הָאֲדָמָ֑ה וְעַל ־הָֽאָדָם֙ וְעַל ־הַבְּהֵמָ֔ה וְעַ֖ל כׇּל ־יְגִ֥יעַ כַּפָּֽיִם ׃ {פ}
καὶ ἐπάξω ῥομφαίαν ἐπὶ τὴν γῆν καὶ ἐπὶ τὰ ὄρη καὶ ἐπὶ τὸν σῖτον καὶ ἐπὶ τὸν οἶνον καὶ ἐπὶ τὸ ἔλαιον καὶ ὅσα ἐκφέρει ἡ γῆ καὶ ἐπὶ τοὺς ἀνθρώπους καὶ ἐπὶ τὰ κτήνη καὶ ἐπὶ πάντας τοὺς πόνους τῶν χειρῶν αὐτῶν
et vocavi siccitatem super terram , et super montes , et super triticum , et super vinum , et super oleum , et quaecumque profert humus , et super homines , et super jumenta , et super omnem laborem manuum .
ወአመጽእ ፡ ኩናተ ፡ ላዕለ ፡ በሐዉርት ፡ ወላዕለ ፡ አድባር ፡ ወላዕለ ፡ እክለ ፡ ወወይን ፡ ወቅብአ ፡ ወላዕለ ፡ ሰብእ ፡ ወእንስሳ ፡ ወላዕለ ፡ ኩሉ ፡ ተግባረ ፡ እደዊሆም ።
I called for a drought on the land, on the mountains, on the grain, on the new wine, on the oil, on that which the ground produces, on men, on livestock, and on all the labor of the hands.”
1:12 ⧉ ⤴︎ וַיִּשְׁמַ֣ע זְרֻבָּבֶ֣ל ׀בֶּֽן ־שַׁלְתִּיאֵ֡ל וִיהוֹשֻׁ֣עַ בֶּן ־יְהוֹצָדָק֩ הַכֹּהֵ֨ן הַגָּד֜וֹל וְכֹ֣ל ׀ שְׁאֵרִ֣ית הָעָ֗ם בְּקוֹל֙ יְהֹוָ֣ה אֱלֹֽהֵיהֶ֔ם וְעַל ־דִּבְרֵי֙ חַגַּ֣י הַנָּבִ֔יא כַּאֲשֶׁ֥ר שְׁלָח֖וֹ יְהֹוָ֣ה אֱלֹהֵיהֶ֑ם וַיִּֽירְא֥וּ הָעָ֖ם מִפְּנֵ֥י יְהֹוָֽה ׃
καὶ ἤκουσεν Ζοροβαβελ ὁ τοῦ Σαλαθιηλ ἐκ φυλῆς Ιουδα καὶ Ἰησοῦς ὁ τοῦ Ιωσεδεκ ὁ ἱερεὺς ὁ μέγας καὶ πάντες οἱ κατάλοιποι τοῦ λαοῦ τῆς φωνῆς κυρίου τοῦ θεοῦ αὐτῶν καὶ τῶν λόγων Αγγαιου τοῦ προφήτου καθότι ἐξαπέστειλεν αὐτὸν κύριος ὁ θεὸς αὐτῶν πρὸς αὐτούς καὶ ἐφοβήθη ὁ λαὸς ἀπὸ προσώπου κυρίου
Et audivit Zorobabel , filius Salathiel , et Jesus , filius Josedec , sacerdos magnus , et omnes reliquiae populi , vocem Domini Dei sui , et verba Aggaei prophetae , sicut misit eum Dominus Deus eorum ad eos , et timuit populus a facie Domini .
ወስምዐ ፡ ዘሩባቤል ፡ ወልደ ፡ ሰላትያል ፡ ዘሕዝበ ፡ ይሁዳ ፡ ወዬሴዕ ፡ ወልደ ፡ ዬሴዴቅ ፡ ካህን ፡ ዓቢይ ፡ ወኩሉኦም ፡ ሕዝብ ፡ እለ ፡ ተርፉ ፡ ቃለ ፡ እግዚአብሔር ፡ አምላኮሙ ፡ ወቃለ ፡ ሐጌ ፡ ነቢይ ፡ ዘከመ ፡ ለአኮ ፡ እግዚአብሔር ፡ እምላኮሙ ፡ ኀቤሆሙ ፡ ወፈርሁ ፡ ሕዝብ ፡ እምቅድም ፡ ገጹ ፡ ለእግዚአብሔር ።
Then Zerubbabel the son of Shealtiel and Joshua the son of Jehozadak, the high priest, with all the remnant of the people, obeyed Yahweh their God’s voice, and the words of Haggai the prophet, as Yahweh their God had sent him; and the people feared Yahweh.
1:13 ⧉ ⤴︎ וַ֠יֹּ֠אמֶר חַגַּ֞י מַלְאַ֧ךְ יְהֹוָ֛ה בְּמַלְאֲכ֥וּת יְהֹוָ֖ה לָעָ֣ם לֵאמֹ֑ר אֲנִ֥י אִתְּכֶ֖ם נְאֻם ־יְהֹוָֽה ׃
καὶ εἶπεν Αγγαιος ὁ ἄγγελος κυρίου τῷ λαῷ ἐγώ εἰμι μεθ’ ὑμῶν λέγει κύριος
Et dixit Aggaeus , nuntius Domini de nuntiis Domini , populo dicens : Ego vobiscum sum , dicit Dominus .
ወይቤ ፡ ሐጌ ፡ መልክ ፡ እግዚአብሔር ፡ ለሕዝብ ፡ አነ ፡ ምስሌክሙ ፡ ይቤ ፡ እግዝያብሔር ።
Then Haggai, Yahweh’s messenger, spoke Yahweh’s message to the people, saying, “I am with you,” says Yahweh.
1:14 ⧉ ⤴︎ וַיָּ֣עַר יְהֹוָ֡ה אֶת ־ר֩וּחַ֩ זְרֻבָּבֶ֨ל בֶּן ־שַׁלְתִּיאֵ֜ל פַּחַ֣ת יְהוּדָ֗ה וְאֶת ־ר֙וּחַ֙ יְהוֹשֻׁ֤עַ בֶּן ־יְהוֹצָדָק֙ הַכֹּהֵ֣ן הַגָּד֔וֹל וְֽאֶת ־ר֔וּחַ כֹּ֖ל שְׁאֵרִ֣ית הָעָ֑ם וַיָּבֹ֙אוּ֙ וַיַּעֲשׂ֣וּ מְלָאכָ֔ה בְּבֵית ־יְהֹוָ֥ה צְבָא֖וֹת אֱלֹהֵיהֶֽם ׃ {פ}
καὶ ἐξήγειρεν κύριος τὸ πνεῦμα Ζοροβαβελ τοῦ Σαλαθιηλ ἐκ φυλῆς Ιουδα καὶ τὸ πνεῦμα Ἰησοῦ τοῦ Ιωσεδεκ τοῦ ἱερέως τοῦ μεγάλου καὶ τὸ πνεῦμα τῶν καταλοίπων παντὸς τοῦ λαοῦ καὶ εἰσῆλθον καὶ ἐποίουν ἔργα ἐν τῷ οἴκῳ κυρίου παντοκράτορος θεοῦ αὐτῶν
Et suscitavit Dominus spiritum Zorobabel , filii Salathiel , ducis Juda , et spiritum Jesu , filii Josedec , sacerdotis magni , et spiritum reliquorum de omni populo : et ingressi sunt , et faciebant opus in domo Domini exercituum , Dei sui .
ወአንሥአ ፡ እግዚአብሔር ፡ መንፈስ ፡ ዘሩባቤል ፡ ዋልደ ፡ ሰላትያል ፡ ዘሕዝበ ፡ ይሁዳ ፡ ወመንፈሰ ፡ የሴዕ ፡ ወልደ ፡ ዩሴዴቅ ፡ ካህን ፡ ዓቢይ ፡ ወመንፈሶሙ ፡ ለኩሉም ፡ እለ ፡ ተርፉ ፡ ሕዝብ ፡ ወቦኦ ፡ ይግበሩ ፡ ግብረ ፡ ቤተ ፡ እግዚአብሔር ፡ አምላክሙ ፡ ዘኩሎ ፡ ይመልክ ።
Yahweh stirred up the spirit of Zerubbabel the son of Shealtiel, governor of Judah, and the spirit of Joshua the son of Jehozadak, the high priest, and the spirit of all the remnant of the people; and they came and worked on the house of Yahweh of Armies, their God,
1:15 ⧉ ⤴︎ בְּי֨וֹם עֶשְׂרִ֧ים וְאַרְבָּעָ֛ה לַחֹ֖דֶשׁ בַּשִּׁשִּׁ֑י בִּשְׁנַ֥ת שְׁתַּ֖יִם לְדָרְיָ֥וֶשׁ הַמֶּֽלֶךְ ׃
τῇ τετράδι καὶ εἰκάδι τοῦ μηνὸς τοῦ ἕκτου τῷ δευτέρῳ ἔτει ἐπὶ Δαρείου τοῦ βασιλέως
— — in the twenty-fourth day of the month, in the sixth month, in the second year of Darius the king.
