18:1
וַיְהִ֥י דְבַר־יְהֹוָ֖ה אֵלַ֥י לֵאמֹֽר׃
καὶ ἐγένετο λόγος κυρίου πρός με λέγων
Et factus est sermo Domini ad me, dicens :
ወነበበኒ፡ እግዚአብሔር፡ ወይቤለኒ።
Yahweh’s word came to me again, saying,
18:2
מַה־לָּכֶ֗ם אַתֶּם֙ מֹֽשְׁלִים֙ אֶת־הַמָּשָׁ֣ל הַזֶּ֔ה עַל־אַדְמַ֥ת יִשְׂרָאֵ֖ל לֵאמֹ֑ר אָבוֹת֙ יֹ֣אכְלוּ בֹ֔סֶר וְשִׁנֵּ֥י הַבָּנִ֖ים תִּקְהֶֽינָה׃
υἱὲ ἀνθρώπου τί ὑμῖν ἡ παραβολὴ αὕτη ἐν τοῖς υἱοῖς Ισραηλ λέγοντες οἱ πατέρες ἔφαγον ὄμφακα καὶ οἱ ὀδόντες τῶν τέκνων ἐγομφίασαν
Quid est quod inter vos parabolam vertitis in proverbium istud in terra Israël, dicentes : Patres comederunt uvam acerbam, et dentes filiorum obstupescunt ?
ወልደ፡ እጓለ፡ እመሕያው፡ ምንት፡ በኀቤክሙ፡ ዝንቱ፡ ምሳሌ፡ ዘይብሉ፡ ደቂቀ፡ እስራኤል፡ አበው፡ በልዑ፡ ቆዓ፡ ወደቂቅ፡ ፀርሱ፡ ስነኒሆሙ።
“What do you mean, that you use this proverb concerning the land of Israel, saying, ‘The fathers have eaten sour grapes, and the children’s teeth are set on edge’?
18:3
חַי־אָ֕נִי נְאֻ֖ם אֲדֹנָ֣י יֱהֹוִ֑ה אִם־יִהְיֶ֨ה לָכֶ֜ם ע֗וֹד מְשֹׁ֛ל הַמָּשָׁ֥ל הַזֶּ֖ה בְּיִשְׂרָאֵֽל׃
ζῶ ἐγώ λέγει κύριος ἐὰν γένηται ἔτι λεγομένη ἡ παραβολὴ αὕτη ἐν τῷ Ισραηλ
Vivo ego, dicit Dominus Deus, si erit ultra vobis parabola haec in proverbium in Israël.
ሕያው፡ አነ፡ ይቤ፡ እግዚአብሔር፡ አዶናይ፡ ከመ፡ ኢይብልዋ፡ ዳግመ፡ ለዛቲ፡ ምሳሌ፡ በውስተ፡ እስራኤል።
“As I live,” says the Lord Yahweh, “you shall not use this proverb any more in Israel.
18:4
הֵ֤ן כׇּל־הַנְּפָשׁוֹת֙ לִ֣י הֵ֔נָּה כְּנֶ֧פֶשׁ הָאָ֛ב וּכְנֶ֥פֶשׁ הַבֵּ֖ן לִי־הֵ֑נָּה הַנֶּ֥פֶשׁ הַחֹטֵ֖את הִ֥יא תָמֽוּת׃
ὅτι πᾶσαι αἱ ψυχαὶ ἐμαί εἰσιν ὃν τρόπον ἡ ψυχὴ τοῦ πατρός οὕτως καὶ ἡ ψυχὴ τοῦ υἱοῦ ἐμαί εἰσιν ἡ ψυχὴ ἡ ἁμαρτάνουσα αὕτη ἀποθανεῖται
Ecce omnes animae meae sunt : ut anima patris, ita et anima filii mea est : anima quae peccaverit, ipsa morietur.
እስመ፡ ነፍሰ፡ ኵሉ፡ ዚአየ፡ ውእቱ፡ ከመ፡ ነፍሰ፡ አብ፡ ከማሁ፡ ነፍሰ፡ ውሉድ፡ ዚአየ፡ ውእቱ። ነፍስ፡ እንተ፡ አበሰት፡ ይእቲ፡ ትመውት።
Behold, all souls are mine; as the soul of the father, so also the soul of the son is mine. The soul who sins, he shall die.
18:5
וְאִ֖ישׁ כִּֽי־יִהְיֶ֣ה צַדִּ֑יק וְעָשָׂ֥ה מִשְׁפָּ֖ט וּצְדָקָֽה׃
ὁ δὲ ἄνθρωπος ὃς ἔσται δίκαιος ὁ ποιῶν κρίμα καὶ δικαιοσύνην
Et vir si fuerit justus, et fecerit judicium et justitiam,
ወብእሲሰ፡ ጻድቅ፡ ዘይገብር፡ ጽድቀ፡ ወርትዓ።
“But if a man is just, and does that which is lawful and right,
18:6
אֶל־הֶֽהָרִים֙ לֹ֣א אָכָ֔ל וְעֵינָיו֙ לֹ֣א נָשָׂ֔א אֶל־גִּלּוּלֵ֖י בֵּ֣ית יִשְׂרָאֵ֑ל וְאֶת־אֵ֤שֶׁת רֵעֵ֙הוּ֙ לֹ֣א טִמֵּ֔א וְאֶל־אִשָּׁ֥ה נִדָּ֖ה לֹ֥א יִקְרָֽב׃
ἐπὶ τῶν ὀρέων οὐ φάγεται καὶ τοὺς ὀφθαλμοὺς αὐτοῦ οὐ μὴ ἐπάρῃ πρὸς τὰ ἐνθυμήματα οἴκου Ισραηλ καὶ τὴν γυναῖκα τοῦ πλησίον αὐτοῦ οὐ μὴ μιάνῃ καὶ πρὸς γυναῖκα ἐν ἀφέδρῳ οὖσαν οὐ προσεγγιεῖ
in montibus non comederit, et oculos suos non levaverit ad idola domus Israël : et uxorem proximi sui non violaverit, et ad mulierem menstruatam non accesserit :
ወኢበልዐ፡ በውስተ፡ አድባር፡ ወኢያንሥአ፡ አዕይንቲሁ፡ ኀበ፡ ሕሊናሆሙ፡ ለቤተ፡ እስራኤል፣፡ ወኢያርኰሰ፡ ብእሲተ፡ ቢጹ፡ ወኢቀርበ፡ ብእሲተ፡ ትክት።
and has not eaten on the mountains, hasn’t lifted up his eyes to the idols of the house of Israel, hasn’t defiled his neighbor’s wife, hasn’t come near a woman in her impurity,
18:7
וְאִישׁ֙ לֹ֣א יוֹנֶ֔ה חֲבֹלָת֥וֹ חוֹב֙ יָשִׁ֔יב גְּזֵלָ֖ה לֹ֣א יִגְזֹ֑ל לַחְמוֹ֙ לְרָעֵ֣ב יִתֵּ֔ן וְעֵירֹ֖ם יְכַסֶּה־בָּֽגֶד׃
καὶ ἄνθρωπον οὐ μὴ καταδυναστεύσῃ ἐνεχυρασμὸν ὀφείλοντος ἀποδώσει καὶ ἅρπαγμα οὐχ ἁρπᾶται τὸν ἄρτον αὐτοῦ τῷ πεινῶντι δώσει καὶ γυμνὸν περιβαλεῖ
et hominem non contristaverit, pignus debitori reddiderit, per vim nihil rapuerit : panem suum esurienti dederit, et nudum operuerit vestimento :
ወኢዐመፀ፡ ቢጾ፡ ወአግብአ፡ አኅዘ፡ ዕዳሁ፡ ወኢሄደ፡ ወኢተዐገለ፡ ወወሀበ፡ እምእክሉ፡ ለነዳይ፡ ወአልበሰ፡ እምልብሱ፡ ለዕሩቅ።
and has not wronged any, but has restored to the debtor his pledge, has taken nothing by robbery, has given his bread to the hungry, and has covered the naked with a garment;
18:8
בַּנֶּ֣שֶׁךְ לֹֽא־יִתֵּ֗ן וְתַרְבִּית֙ לֹ֣א יִקָּ֔ח מֵעָ֖וֶל יָשִׁ֣יב יָד֑וֹ מִשְׁפַּ֤ט אֱמֶת֙ יַעֲשֶׂ֔ה בֵּ֥ין אִ֖ישׁ לְאִֽישׁ׃
καὶ τὸ ἀργύριον αὐτοῦ ἐπὶ τόκῳ οὐ δώσει καὶ πλεονασμὸν οὐ λήμψεται καὶ ἐξ ἀδικίας ἀποστρέψει τὴν χεῖρα αὐτοῦ κρίμα δίκαιον ποιήσει ἀνὰ μέσον ἀνδρὸς καὶ ἀνὰ μέσον τοῦ πλησίον αὐτοῦ
ad usuram non commodaverit, et amplius non acceperit : ab iniquitate averterit manum suam, et judicium verum fecerit inter virum et virum :
ወኢለቅሐ፡ ወርቆ፡ በርዴ፡ ወኢነሥአ፡ ዘዓመፃ፡ ወሜጠ፡ እዴሁ፡ እምኃጢአት፣፡ ወገብረ፡ ፍትሐ፡ ወጽድቀ፡ ማእከለ፡ ብእሲ፡ ወቢጹ።
he who hasn’t lent to them with interest, hasn’t taken any increase from them, who has withdrawn his hand from iniquity, has executed true justice between man and man,
18:9
בְּחֻקּוֹתַ֧י יְהַלֵּ֛ךְ וּמִשְׁפָּטַ֥י שָׁמַ֖ר לַעֲשׂ֣וֹת אֱמֶ֑ת צַדִּ֥יק הוּא֙ חָיֹ֣ה יִֽחְיֶ֔ה נְאֻ֖ם אֲדֹנָ֥י יֱהֹוִֽה׃
καὶ τοῖς προστάγμασίν μου πεπόρευται καὶ τὰ δικαιώματά μου πεφύλακται τοῦ ποιῆσαι αὐτά δίκαιος οὗτός ἐστιν ζωῇ ζήσεται λέγει κύριος
in praeceptis meis ambulaverit, et judicia mea custodierit, ut faciat veritatem : hic justus est ; vita vivet, ait Dominus Deus.
ወሖረ፡ በትእዛዝየ፡ ወዐቀበ፡ ሕግየ፡ ወገብረ፡ ጽድቀ፡ ጻድቅ፡ ውእቱ፣፡ ሕይወተ፡ የሐዩ፡ ይቤ፡ አዶናይ፡ እግዚአብሔር።
has walked in my statutes, and has kept my ordinances, to deal truly; he is just, he shall surely live,” says the Lord Yahweh.
18:10
וְהוֹלִ֥יד בֵּן־פָּרִ֖יץ שֹׁפֵ֣ךְ דָּ֑ם וְעָ֣שָׂה אָ֔ח מֵאַחַ֖ד מֵאֵֽלֶּה׃
καὶ ἐὰν γεννήσῃ υἱὸν λοιμὸν ἐκχέοντα αἷμα καὶ ποιοῦντα ἁμαρτήματα
Quod si genuerit filium latronem, effundentem sanguinem, et fecerit unum de istis :
ወለእመ፡ ወለደ፡ ወልደ፡ ኃጥአ፡ ወቀታሌ፡ ነፍስ፡ ዘይገብር፡ ዓመፃ።
“If he fathers a son who is a robber who sheds blood, and who does any one of these things,
18:11
וְה֕וּא אֶת־כׇּל־אֵ֖לֶּה לֹ֣א עָשָׂ֑ה כִּ֣י גַ֤ם אֶל־הֶהָרִים֙ אָכַ֔ל וְאֶת־אֵ֥שֶׁת רֵעֵ֖הוּ טִמֵּֽא׃
ἐν τῇ ὁδῷ τοῦ πατρὸς αὐτοῦ τοῦ δικαίου οὐκ ἐπορεύθη ἀλλὰ καὶ ἐπὶ τῶν ὀρέων ἔφαγεν καὶ τὴν γυναῖκα τοῦ πλησίον αὐτοῦ ἐμίανεν
et haec quidem omnia non facientem, sed in montibus comedentem, et uxorem proximi sui polluentem :
ወኢሖረ፡ በፍኖተ፡ አቡሁ፡ ጻድቅ፡ ወበልዐ፡ በውስተ፡ አድባር፡ ወአርኰሰ፡ ብእሲተ፡ ቢጹ።
or who does not do any of those things but has eaten at the mountain shrines and defiled his neighbor’s wife,
18:12
עָנִ֤י וְאֶבְיוֹן֙ הוֹנָ֔ה גְּזֵל֣וֹת גָּזָ֔ל חֲבֹ֖ל לֹ֣א יָשִׁ֑יב וְאֶל־הַגִּלּוּלִים֙ נָשָׂ֣א עֵינָ֔יו תּוֹעֵבָ֖ה עָשָֽׂה׃
καὶ πτωχὸν καὶ πένητα κατεδυνάστευσεν καὶ ἅρπαγμα ἥρπασεν καὶ ἐνεχυρασμὸν οὐκ ἀπέδωκεν καὶ εἰς τὰ εἴδωλα ἔθετο τοὺς ὀφθαλμοὺς αὐτοῦ ἀνομίαν πεποίηκεν
egenum et pauperem contristantem, rapientem rapinas, pignus non reddentem, et ad idola levantem oculos suos, abominationem facientem :
ወተዐገለ፡ ነዳየ፡ ወምስኪነ፡ ወሄደ፡ ወዐመፀ፣፡ ወኢያግብአ፡ አኅዘ፡ ዕዳሁ፡ ወሜጠ፡ አዕይንቲሁ፡ መንገለ፡ ጣዖት፡ ወገብረ፡ ዓመፃ።
has wronged the poor and needy, has taken by robbery, has not restored the pledge, and has lifted up his eyes to the idols, has committed abomination,
18:13
בַּנֶּ֧שֶׁךְ נָתַ֛ן וְתַרְבִּ֥ית לָקַ֖ח וָחָ֑י לֹ֣א יִֽחְיֶ֗ה אֵ֣ת כׇּל־הַתּוֹעֵב֤וֹת הָאֵ֙לֶּה֙ עָשָׂ֔ה מ֣וֹת יוּמָ֔ת דָּמָ֖יו בּ֥וֹ יִֽהְיֶֽה׃
μετὰ τόκου ἔδωκε καὶ πλεονασμὸν ἔλαβεν οὗτος ζωῇ οὐ ζήσεται πάσας τὰς ἀνομίας ταύτας ἐποίησεν θανάτῳ θανατωθήσεται τὸ αἷμα αὐτοῦ ἐπ’ αὐτὸν ἔσται
ad usuram dantem, et amplius accipientem : numquid vivet ? Non vivet : cum universa haec detestanda fecerit, morte morietur ; sanguis ejus in ipso erit.
ወለቅሐ፡ በርዴ፡ ወአስተናድአ፡ (ወነሥአ፡ ዘስርቅ፡ )፡ ዘከመዝ፡ ኢየሐዩ፡ ሕይወተ፡ በኵሉ፡ ዝንቱ፡ ኃጢአቱ፡ ዘገብረ፡ ሞተ፡ ይመውት፡ ወይገብእ፡ ደሙ፡ ላዕሌሁ።
has lent with interest, and has taken increase from the poor, shall he then live? He shall not live. He has done all these abominations. He shall surely die. His blood will be on him.
18:14
וְהִנֵּה֙ הוֹלִ֣יד בֵּ֔ן וַיַּ֕רְא אֶת־כׇּל־חַטֹּ֥את אָבִ֖יו אֲשֶׁ֣ר עָשָׂ֑ה וַיִּרְאֶ֕ה וְלֹ֥א יַעֲשֶׂ֖ה כָּהֵֽן׃
ἐὰν δὲ γεννήσῃ υἱόν καὶ ἴδῃ πάσας τὰς ἁμαρτίας τοῦ πατρὸς αὐτοῦ ἃς ἐποίησεν καὶ φοβηθῇ καὶ μὴ ποιήσῃ κατὰ ταύτας
Quod si genuerit filium, qui videns omnia peccata patris sui quae fecit, timuerit, et non fecerit simile eis :
ወለእመ፡ ወለደ፡ ወልደ፡ ወርእየ፡ ኵሎ፡ ኃጢአተ፡ አቡሁ፡ ዘገብረ፡ ወፈርሀ፡ ወኢገብረ፡ ከማሁ።
“Now, behold, if he fathers a son who sees all his father’s sins which he has done, and fears, and doesn’t do likewise,
18:15
עַל־הֶהָרִים֙ לֹ֣א אָכָ֔ל וְעֵינָיו֙ לֹ֣א נָשָׂ֔א אֶל־גִּלּוּלֵ֖י בֵּ֣ית יִשְׂרָאֵ֑ל אֶת־אֵ֥שֶׁת רֵעֵ֖הוּ לֹ֥א טִמֵּֽא׃
ἐπὶ τῶν ὀρέων οὐ βέβρωκεν καὶ τοὺς ὀφθαλμοὺς αὐτοῦ οὐκ ἔθετο εἰς τὰ ἐνθυμήματα οἴκου Ισραηλ καὶ τὴν γυναῖκα τοῦ πλησίον αὐτοῦ οὐκ ἐμίανεν
super montes non comederit, et oculos suos non levaverit ad idola domus Israël, et uxorem proximi sui non violaverit :

18:16
וְאִישׁ֙ לֹ֣א הוֹנָ֔ה חֲבֹל֙ לֹ֣א חָבָ֔ל וּגְזֵלָ֖ה לֹ֣א גָזָ֑ל לַחְמוֹ֙ לְרָעֵ֣ב נָתָ֔ן וְעֵר֖וֹם כִּסָּה־בָֽגֶד׃
καὶ ἄνθρωπον οὐ κατεδυνάστευσεν καὶ ἐνεχυρασμὸν οὐκ ἐνεχύρασεν καὶ ἅρπαγμα οὐχ ἥρπασεν τὸν ἄρτον αὐτοῦ τῷ πεινῶντι ἔδωκεν καὶ γυμνὸν περιέβαλεν
et virum non contristaverit, pignus non retinuerit, et rapinam non rapuerit : panem suum esurienti dederit, et nudum operuerit vestimento :
ወኢተዐገለ፡ ሰብአ፡ ወአግብአ፡ አኅዘ፡ ዕዳሁ፡ ወኢያስተናድአ፡ ወኢሄደ፣፡ ወአብልዐ፡ እምእክሉ፡ ለርኁብ፡ ወአልበሰ፡ እምልብሱ፡ ለዕሩቅ።
hasn’t wronged any, hasn’t taken anything to pledge, hasn’t taken by robbery, but has given his bread to the hungry, and has covered the naked with a garment;
18:17
מֵעָנִ֞י הֵשִׁ֣יב יָד֗וֹ נֶ֤שֶׁךְ וְתַרְבִּית֙ לֹ֣א לָקָ֔ח מִשְׁפָּטַ֣י עָשָׂ֔ה בְּחֻקּוֹתַ֖י הָלָ֑ךְ ה֗וּא לֹ֥א יָמ֛וּת בַּעֲוֺ֥ן אָבִ֖יו חָיֹ֥ה יִֽחְיֶֽה׃
καὶ ἀπ’ ἀδικίας ἀπέστρεψε τὴν χεῖρα αὐτοῦ τόκον οὐδὲ πλεονασμὸν οὐκ ἔλαβεν δικαιοσύνην ἐποίησεν καὶ ἐν τοῖς προστάγμασίν μου ἐπορεύθη οὐ τελευτήσει ἐν ἀδικίαις πατρὸς αὐτοῦ ζωῇ ζήσεται
a pauperis injuria averterit manum suam, usuram et superabundantiam non acceperit, judicia mea fecerit, in praeceptis meis ambulaverit : hic non morietur in iniquitate patris sui, sed vita vivet.
ወሜጠ፡ እዴሁ፡ እምዓመፃ፡ ወኢነሥአ፡ ርዴ፡ ወንዋየ፡ ዓመፃ፡ ወገብረ፡ ጽድቀ፡ ወሖረ፡ በትእዛዝየ፣፡ ኢይመውት፡ በኃጢአተ፡ አቡሁ፡ አላ፡ ሐይወ፡ የሐዩ።
who has withdrawn his hand from the poor, who hasn’t received interest or increase, has executed my ordinances, has walked in my statutes; he shall not die for the iniquity of his father. He shall surely live.
18:18
אָבִ֞יו כִּֽי־עָ֣שַׁק עֹ֗שֶׁק גָּזַל֙ גֵּ֣זֶל אָ֔ח וַאֲשֶׁ֥ר לֹא־ט֛וֹב עָשָׂ֖ה בְּת֣וֹךְ עַמָּ֑יו וְהִנֵּה־מֵ֖ת בַּעֲוֺנֽוֹ׃
ὁ δὲ πατὴρ αὐτοῦ ἐὰν θλίψει θλίψῃ καὶ ἁρπάσῃ ἅρπαγμα ἐναντία ἐποίησεν ἐν μέσῳ τοῦ λαοῦ μου καὶ ἀποθανεῖται ἐν τῇ ἀδικίᾳ αὐτοῦ
Pater ejus, quia calumniatus est, et vim fecit fratri, et malum operatus est in medio populi sui, ecce mortuus est in iniquitate sua.
ወአቡሁሰ፡ ለእመ፡ ገፍዐ፡ ወዐመፀ፡ ወሄደ፡ ወተዐገለ፡ ወገብረ፡ ዘኢይከውን፡ በማእከለ፡ ሕዝቡ፣፡ ይመውት፡ በጌጋዩ።
As for his father, because he cruelly oppressed, robbed his brother, and did that which is not good among his people, behold, he will die in his iniquity.
18:19
וַאֲמַרְתֶּ֕ם מַדֻּ֛עַ לֹא־נָשָׂ֥א הַבֵּ֖ן בַּעֲוֺ֣ן הָאָ֑ב וְהַבֵּ֞ן מִשְׁפָּ֧ט וּצְדָקָ֣ה עָשָׂ֗ה אֵ֣ת כׇּל־חֻקּוֹתַ֥י שָׁמַ֛ר וַיַּעֲשֶׂ֥ה אֹתָ֖ם חָיֹ֥ה יִֽחְיֶֽה׃
καὶ ἐρεῖτε τί ὅτι οὐκ ἔλαβεν τὴν ἀδικίαν ὁ υἱὸς τοῦ πατρὸς αὐτοῦ ὅτι ὁ υἱὸς δικαιοσύνην καὶ ἔλεος ἐποίησεν πάντα τὰ νόμιμά μου συνετήρησεν καὶ ἐποίησεν αὐτά ζωῇ ζήσεται
Et dicitis : Quare non portavit filius iniquitatem patris ? Videlicet quia filius judicium et justitiam operatus est, omnia praecepta mea custodivit, et fecit illa, vivet vita.
ወትብሉ፡ በእፎ፡ ኢይትፈደይ፡ ወልድ፡ በኃጢአተ፡ አቡሁ፡ እስመ፡ ገብረ፡ ወልድ፡ ጽድቀ፡ ወምጽዋተ፡ ወዐቀበ፡ ኵሎ፡ ሕግየ፡ ወገብሮ፡ ሕይወተ፡ የሐዩ።
“Yet you say, ‘Why doesn’t the son bear the iniquity of the father?’ When the son has done that which is lawful and right, and has kept all my statutes, and has done them, he will surely live.
18:20
הַנֶּ֥פֶשׁ הַחֹטֵ֖את הִ֣יא תָמ֑וּת בֵּ֞ן לֹא־יִשָּׂ֣א׀ בַּעֲוֺ֣ן הָאָ֗ב וְאָב֙ לֹ֤א יִשָּׂא֙ בַּעֲוֺ֣ן הַבֵּ֔ן צִדְקַ֤ת הַצַּדִּיק֙ עָלָ֣יו תִּֽהְיֶ֔ה וְרִשְׁעַ֥ת (רשע) [הָרָשָׁ֖ע] עָלָ֥יו תִּֽהְיֶֽה׃ {ס}
ἡ δὲ ψυχὴ ἡ ἁμαρτάνουσα ἀποθανεῖται ὁ δὲ υἱὸς οὐ λήμψεται τὴν ἀδικίαν τοῦ πατρὸς αὐτοῦ οὐδὲ ὁ πατὴρ λήμψεται τὴν ἀδικίαν τοῦ υἱοῦ αὐτοῦ δικαιοσύνη δικαίου ἐπ’ αὐτὸν ἔσται καὶ ἀνομία ἀνόμου ἐπ’ αὐτὸν ἔσται
Anima quae peccaverit, ipsa morietur : filius non portabit iniquitatem patris, et pater non portabit iniquitatem filii : justitia justi super eum erit, et impietas impii erit super eum.
ወነፍስ፡ እንተ፡ አበሰት፡ ትመውት፡ ወወልድ፡ ኢይትፈደይ፡ በኃጢአተ፡ አቡሁ፣፡ ወአብ፡ በኃጢአተ፡ ወልድ፡ ኢይትፈደይ። ጽድቁ፡ ለጻድቅ፡ ለርእሱ፡ ወኃጢአቱ፡ ለኃጥእ፡ ላዕሌሁ።
The soul who sins, he shall die. The son shall not bear the iniquity of the father, neither shall the father bear the iniquity of the son. The righteousness of the righteous shall be on him, and the wickedness of the wicked shall be on him.
18:21
וְהָרָשָׁ֗ע כִּ֤י יָשׁוּב֙ מִכׇּל־חַטֹּאתָו֙ אֲשֶׁ֣ר עָשָׂ֔ה וְשָׁמַר֙ אֶת־כׇּל־חֻקּוֹתַ֔י וְעָשָׂ֥ה מִשְׁפָּ֖ט וּצְדָקָ֑ה חָיֹ֥ה יִֽחְיֶ֖ה לֹ֥א יָמֽוּת׃
καὶ ὁ ἄνομος ἐὰν ἀποστρέψῃ ἐκ πασῶν τῶν ἀνομιῶν αὐτοῦ ὧν ἐποίησεν καὶ φυλάξηται πάσας τὰς ἐντολάς μου καὶ ποιήσῃ δικαιοσύνην καὶ ἔλεος ζωῇ ζήσεται οὐ μὴ ἀποθάνῃ
Si autem impius egerit poenitentiam ab omnibus peccatis suis quae operatus est, et custodierit omnia praecepta mea, et fecerit judicium et justitiam, vita vivet, et non morietur.
ወለእመ፡ ተመይጠ፡ ኃጥእ፡ እምኵሉ፡ ኃቲአቱ፡ ዘገብረ፡ ወዐቀበ፡ ኵሎ፡ ትእዛዝየ፡ ወገብረ፡ ጽድቀ፡ ወምጽዋተ፡ ሕይወተ፡ የሐዩ፡ ወኢይመውት።
“But if the wicked turns from all his sins that he has committed, and keeps all my statutes, and does that which is lawful and right, he shall surely live. He shall not die.
18:22
כׇּל־פְּשָׁעָיו֙ אֲשֶׁ֣ר עָשָׂ֔ה לֹ֥א יִזָּכְר֖וּ ל֑וֹ בְּצִדְקָת֥וֹ אֲשֶׁר־עָשָׂ֖ה יִֽחְיֶֽה׃
πάντα τὰ παραπτώματα αὐτοῦ ὅσα ἐποίησεν οὐ μνησθήσεται ἐν τῇ δικαιοσύνῃ αὐτοῦ ᾗ ἐποίησεν ζήσεται
Omnium iniquitatum ejus quas operatus est, non recordabor : in justitia sua quam operatus est, vivet.
ወኵሎ፡ ኃጢአቶ፡ ዘገብረ፡ ኢይዜከር፡ ሎቱ፡ ዳእሙ፡ በጽድቁ፡ ዘገብረ፡ የሐዩ፡ ቦቱ።
None of his transgressions that he has committed will be remembered against him. In his righteousness that he has done, he shall live.
18:23
הֶחָפֹ֤ץ אֶחְפֹּץ֙ מ֣וֹת רָשָׁ֔ע נְאֻ֖ם אֲדֹנָ֣י יֱהֹוִ֑ה הֲל֛וֹא בְּשׁוּב֥וֹ מִדְּרָכָ֖יו וְחָיָֽה׃ {ס}
μὴ θελήσει θελήσω τὸν θάνατον τοῦ ἀνόμου λέγει κύριος ὡς τὸ ἀποστρέψαι αὐτὸν ἐκ τῆς ὁδοῦ τῆς πονηρᾶς καὶ ζῆν αὐτόν
Numquid voluntatis meae est mors impii, dicit Dominus Deus, et non ut convertatur a viis suis, et vivat ?
ቦኑ፡ ፈቂደ፡ እፈቅድ፡ ከመ፡ ይሙት፡ ኃጥእ፡ ይቤ፡ አዶናይ፡ እግዚአብሔር፡ ዳእሙ፡ ከመ፡ ይትመየጥ፡ እምፍኖቱ፡ እኩይ፡ ወይሕየው።
Have I any pleasure in the death of the wicked?” says the Lord Yahweh, “and not rather that he should return from his way, and live?
18:24
וּבְשׁ֨וּב צַדִּ֤יק מִצִּדְקָתוֹ֙ וְעָ֣שָׂה עָ֔וֶל כְּכֹ֨ל הַתּוֹעֵב֜וֹת אֲשֶׁר־עָשָׂ֧ה הָרָשָׁ֛ע יַעֲשֶׂ֖ה וָחָ֑י כׇּל־צִדְקֹתָ֤ו אֲשֶׁר־עָשָׂה֙ לֹ֣א תִזָּכַ֔רְנָה בְּמַעֲל֧וֹ אֲשֶׁר־מָעַ֛ל וּבְחַטָּאת֥וֹ אֲשֶׁר־חָטָ֖א בָּ֥ם יָמֽוּת׃
ἐν δὲ τῷ ἀποστρέψαι δίκαιον ἐκ τῆς δικαιοσύνης αὐτοῦ καὶ ποιήσῃ ἀδικίαν κατὰ πάσας τὰς ἀνομίας ἃς ἐποίησεν ὁ ἄνομος πᾶσαι αἱ δικαιοσύναι αὐτοῦ ἃς ἐποίησεν οὐ μὴ μνησθῶσιν ἐν τῷ παραπτώματι αὐτοῦ ᾧ παρέπεσεν καὶ ἐν ταῖς ἁμαρτίαις αὐτοῦ αἷς ἥμαρτεν ἐν αὐταῖς ἀποθανεῖται
Si autem averterit se justus a justitia sua, et fecerit iniquitatem secundum omnes abominationes quas operari solet impius, numquid vivet ? Omnes justitiae ejus quas fecerat, non recordabuntur : in praevaricatione qua praevaricatus est, et in peccato suo quod peccavit, in ipsis morietur.
ወእመ፡ ተመይጠ፡ ጻድቅ፡ እምጽድቁ፡ ወገብረ፡ ኃጢአተ፣፡ ይመውት፡ በኵሉ፡ ጌጋዩ፡ ዘገብረ፡ ውእቱ፡ ኃጥእ፡ ኵሎ፡ ጽድቆ፡ ዘገብረ፡ ኢይዜከር፡ ሎቱ፡ ወበአበሳሁ፡ ዘአበሰ፡ ቦቱ፡ ይመውት።
“But when the righteous turns away from his righteousness, and commits iniquity, and does according to all the abominations that the wicked man does, should he live? None of his righteous deeds that he has done will be remembered. In his trespass that he has trespassed, and in his sin that he has sinned, in them he shall die.
18:25
וַאֲמַרְתֶּ֕ם לֹ֥א יִתָּכֵ֖ן דֶּ֣רֶךְ אֲדֹנָ֑י שִׁמְעוּ־נָא֙ בֵּ֣ית יִשְׂרָאֵ֔ל הֲדַרְכִּי֙ לֹ֣א יִתָּכֵ֔ן הֲלֹ֥א דַרְכֵיכֶ֖ם לֹ֥א יִתָּכֵֽנוּ׃
καὶ εἴπατε οὐ κατευθύνει ἡ ὁδὸς κυρίου ἀκούσατε δή πᾶς οἶκος Ισραηλ μὴ ἡ ὁδός μου οὐ κατευθύνει οὐχὶ ἡ ὁδὸς ὑμῶν οὐ κατευθύνει
Et dixistis : Non est aequa via Domini ! Audite ergo, domus Israël : numquid via mea non est aequa, et non magis viae vestrae pravae sunt ?
ወትብሉ፡ ኢኮነ፡ ርቱዓ፡ ፍኖተ፡ እግዚአብሔር። ስምዑኬ፡ ቤተ፡ ስእራኤል፡ ፍኖትየኑ፡ ኢኮነ፡ ርቱዓ፡ አኮኑ፡ ፍኖትክሙ፡ ኢኮነ፡ ርቱዓ።
“Yet you say, ‘The way of the Lord is not equal.’ Hear now, house of Israel: Is my way not equal? Aren’t your ways unequal?
18:26
בְּשׁוּב־צַדִּ֧יק מִצִּדְקָת֛וֹ וְעָ֥שָׂה עָ֖וֶל וּמֵ֣ת עֲלֵיהֶ֑ם בְּעַוְל֥וֹ אֲשֶׁר־עָשָׂ֖ה יָמֽוּת׃ {ס}
ἐν τῷ ἀποστρέψαι τὸν δίκαιον ἐκ τῆς δικαιοσύνης αὐτοῦ καὶ ποιήσῃ παράπτωμα καὶ ἀποθάνῃ ἐν τῷ παραπτώματι ᾧ ἐποίησεν ἐν αὐτῷ ἀποθανεῖται
Cum enim averterit se justus a justitia sua, et fecerit iniquitatem, morietur in eis : in injustitia quam operatus est morietur.
እምከመ፡ ተመይጠ፡ ጻድቅ፡ እምጽድቁ፡ ወገብረ፡ ኃጢአተ፡ ይመውት፡ በጌጋዩ፡ ዘገብረ፡ ቦቱ።
When the righteous man turns away from his righteousness, and commits iniquity, and dies in it, then he dies in his iniquity that he has done.
18:27
וּבְשׁ֣וּב רָשָׁ֗ע מֵֽרִשְׁעָתוֹ֙ אֲשֶׁ֣ר עָשָׂ֔ה וַיַּ֥עַשׂ מִשְׁפָּ֖ט וּצְדָקָ֑ה ה֖וּא אֶת־נַפְשׁ֥וֹ יְחַיֶּֽה׃
καὶ ἐν τῷ ἀποστρέψαι ἄνομον ἀπὸ τῆς ἀνομίας αὐτοῦ ἧς ἐποίησεν καὶ ποιήσῃ κρίμα καὶ δικαιοσύνην οὗτος τὴν ψυχὴν αὐτοῦ ἐφύλαξεν
Et cum averterit se impius ab impietate sua quam operatus est, et fecerit judicium et justitiam, ipse animam suam vivificabit :
ወእመ፡ ተመይጠ፡ ኃጥእ፡ እምኃጢአቱ፡ ዘገብረ፡ ወገብረ፡ ጽድቀ፡ ወርትዓ፡ ዘከመዝ፡ ነፍስ፡ የሐዩ።
Again, when the wicked man turns away from his wickedness that he has committed, and does that which is lawful and right, he will save his soul alive.
18:28
וַיִּרְאֶ֣ה (וישוב) [וַיָּ֔שׇׁב] מִכׇּל־פְּשָׁעָ֖יו אֲשֶׁ֣ר עָשָׂ֑ה חָי֥וֹ יִֽחְיֶ֖ה לֹ֥א יָמֽוּת׃
καὶ ἀπέστρεψεν ἐκ πασῶν τῶν ἀσεβειῶν αὐτοῦ ὧν ἐποίησεν ζωῇ ζήσεται οὐ μὴ ἀποθάνῃ
considerans enim, et avertens se ab omnibus iniquitatibus suis quas operatus est, vita vivet, et non morietur.
ወርእየ፡ ወተመይጠ፡ እምኵሉ፡ ኃጢአቱ፡ ዘገብረ፡ ሕይወተ፡ የሐዩ፡ ወኢይመውት።
Because he considers, and turns away from all his transgressions that he has committed, he shall surely live. He shall not die.
18:29
וְאָֽמְרוּ֙ בֵּ֣ית יִשְׂרָאֵ֔ל לֹ֥א יִתָּכֵ֖ן דֶּ֣רֶךְ אֲדֹנָ֑י הַדְּרָכַ֞י לֹ֤א יִתָּֽכְנוּ֙ בֵּ֣ית יִשְׂרָאֵ֔ל הֲלֹ֥א דַרְכֵיכֶ֖ם לֹ֥א יִתָּכֵֽן׃
καὶ λέγουσιν ὁ οἶκος τοῦ Ισραηλ οὐ κατορθοῖ ἡ ὁδὸς κυρίου μὴ ἡ ὁδός μου οὐ κατορθοῖ οἶκος Ισραηλ οὐχὶ ἡ ὁδὸς ὑμῶν οὐ κατορθοῖ
Et dicunt filii Israël : Non est aequa via Domini ! Numquid viae meae non sunt aequae, domus Israël, et non magis viae vestrae pravae ?
ወይብሉ፡ ቤተ፡ እስራኤል፡ ኢኮነ፡ ርቱዓ፡ ፍኖተ፡ እግዚአብሔር። ቦኑ፡ ፍኖትየ፡ ኢኮነ፡ ርቱዓ፡ ቤተ፡ እስራኤል፡ አኮኑ፡ ፍኖርክሙ፡ ኢኮነ፡ ርቱዓ።
Yet the house of Israel says, ‘The way of the Lord is not fair.’ House of Israel, aren’t my ways fair? Aren’t your ways unfair?
18:30
לָכֵן֩ אִ֨ישׁ כִּדְרָכָ֜יו אֶשְׁפֹּ֤ט אֶתְכֶם֙ בֵּ֣ית יִשְׂרָאֵ֔ל נְאֻ֖ם אֲדֹנָ֣י יֱהֹוִ֑ה שׁ֤וּבוּ וְהָשִׁ֙יבוּ֙ מִכׇּל־פִּשְׁעֵיכֶ֔ם וְלֹא־יִהְיֶ֥ה לָכֶ֛ם לְמִכְשׁ֖וֹל עָוֺֽן׃
ἕκαστον κατὰ τὴν ὁδὸν αὐτοῦ κρινῶ ὑμᾶς οἶκος Ισραηλ λέγει κύριος ἐπιστράφητε καὶ ἀποστρέψατε ἐκ πασῶν τῶν ἀσεβειῶν ὑμῶν καὶ οὐκ ἔσονται ὑμῖν εἰς κόλασιν ἀδικίας
Idcirco unumquemque juxta vias suas judicabo, domus Israël, ait Dominus Deus. Convertimini, et agite poenitentiam ab omnibus iniquitatibus vestris, et non erit vobis in ruinam iniquitas.
በበይነ፡ ዝንቱ፡ ለኵልክሙ፡ በከመ፡ ፍኖትክሙ፡ እኴንነክሙ፡ ቤተ፡ እስራኤል፡ ይቤ፡ አዶናይ፡ እግዚአብሔር። ተመየጡ፡ ወነስሑ፡ እምኃጢአትክሙ፣፡ ወኢይመጽአክሙ፡ መቅሠፍተ፡ ኃጢአትክሙ።
“Therefore I will judge you, house of Israel, everyone according to his ways,” says the Lord Yahweh. “Return, and turn yourselves from all your transgressions, so iniquity will not be your ruin.
18:31
הַשְׁלִ֣יכוּ מֵעֲלֵיכֶ֗ם אֶת־כׇּל־פִּשְׁעֵיכֶם֙ אֲשֶׁ֣ר פְּשַׁעְתֶּ֣ם בָּ֔ם וַעֲשׂ֥וּ לָכֶ֛ם לֵ֥ב חָדָ֖שׁ וְר֣וּחַ חֲדָשָׁ֑ה וְלָ֥מָּה תָמֻ֖תוּ בֵּ֥ית יִשְׂרָאֵֽל׃
ἀπορρίψατε ἀπὸ ἑαυτῶν πάσας τὰς ἀσεβείας ὑμῶν ἃς ἠσεβήσατε εἰς ἐμέ καὶ ποιήσατε ἑαυτοῖς καρδίαν καινὴν καὶ πνεῦμα καινόν καὶ ἵνα τί ἀποθνῄσκετε οἶκος Ισραηλ
Projicite a vobis omnes praevaricationes vestras in quibus praevaricati estis, et facite vobis cor novum, et spiritum novum : et quare moriemini, domus Israël ?
ወግድፉ፡ እምላዕሌክሙ፡ ኵሎ፡ ጌጋየክሙ፡ ዘአበስክሙ፡ ሊተ፡ ወግበሩ፡ ለክሙ፡ ልበ፡ ሐዲሰ፡ ወመንፈሰ፡ ሐዲሰ፡ ወለምንት፡ ትመውቱ፡ ቤተ፡ እስራኤል።
Cast away from you all your transgressions in which you have transgressed; and make yourself a new heart and a new spirit. For why will you die, house of Israel?
18:32
כִּ֣י לֹ֤א אֶחְפֹּץ֙ בְּמ֣וֹת הַמֵּ֔ת נְאֻ֖ם אֲדֹנָ֣י יֱהֹוִ֑ה וְהָשִׁ֖יבוּ וִֽחְיֽוּ׃ {פ}
διότι οὐ θέλω τὸν θάνατον τοῦ ἀποθνῄσκοντος λέγει κύριος
Quia nolo mortem morientis, dicit Dominus Deus : revertimini, et vivite.
እስመ፡ ኢይፈቅድ፡ ለክሙ፡ ሞተ፡ ትሙቱ፡ ይቤ፡ አዶናይ፡ እግዚአብሔር፡ ዘእንበለ፡ ከመ፡ ትነስሑ፡ ወትሕየዉ።
For I have no pleasure in the death of him who dies,” says the Lord Yahweh. “Therefore turn yourselves, and live!
