22:1 ⧉ ⤴︎ Ἄνδρες ἀδελφοὶ καὶ πατέρες , ἀκούσατέ μου τῆς πρὸς ὑμᾶς νυνὶ ἀπολογίας
Viri fratres , et patres , audite quam ad vos nunc reddo rationem .
ስምዑ አኀዊነ ወአበዊነ ዘእወቅሥ ለክሙ ይእዜ ።
“Brothers and fathers, listen to the defense which I now make to you.”
22:2 ⧉ ⤴︎ ἀκούσαντες δὲ ὅτι τῇ Ἑβραΐδι διαλέκτῳ προσεφώνει αὐτοῖς μᾶλλον παρέσχον ἡσυχίαν . καὶ φησίν ·
Cum audissent autem quia hebraea lingua loqueretur ad illos , magis praestiterunt silentium .
ወሶበ ሰምዑ ከመ በዕብራይስጥ ይነግሮሙ ፈድፋደ አጽምዕዎ ።
When they heard that he spoke to them in the Hebrew language, they were even more quiet. He said,
22:3 ⧉ ⤴︎ ἐγώ εἰμι ἀνὴρ Ἰουδαῖος , γεγεννημένος ἐν Ταρσῷ τῆς Κιλικίας , ἀνατεθραμμένος δὲ ἐν τῇ πόλει ταύτῃ , παρὰ τοὺς πόδας Γαμαλιὴλ πεπαιδευμένος κατὰ ἀκρίβειαν τοῦ πατρῴου νόμου , ζηλωτὴς ὑπάρχων τοῦ θεοῦ καθὼς πάντες ὑμεῖς ἐστε σήμερον ·
Et dicit : Ego sum vir Judaeus , natus in Tarso Ciliciae , nutritus autem in ista civitate , secus pedes Gamaliel eruditus juxta veritatem paternae legis , aemulator legis , sicut et vos omnes estis hodie :
ወይቤሎሙ ጳውሎስ አንሰ ብእሲ አይሁዳዊ አነ ወተወለድኩ በሀገረ ጠርሴስ ዘቂልቅያ ወልህቁ በዛቲ ሀገር በታሕተ እገሪሁ ለገማልያል ወተምህርኩ በሕገ አበውየ ወኮንኩ ቀናኤ ለእግዚአብሔር ከመ ኵልክሙ አንትሙ ዮም ።
“I am indeed a Jew, born in Tarsus of Cilicia, but brought up in this city at the feet of Gamaliel, instructed according to the strict tradition of the law of our fathers, being zealous for God, even as you all are today.
22:4 ⧉ ⤴︎ ὃς ταύτην τὴν ὁδὸν ἐδίωξα ἄχρι θανάτου , δεσμεύων καὶ παραδιδοὺς εἰς φυλακὰς ἄνδρας τε καὶ γυναῖκας ,
qui hanc viam persecutus sum usque ad mortem , alligans et tradens in custodias viros ac mulieres ,
ወሰደድክዎሙ ወቀተልክዎሙ እንዘ እሞቅሖሙ ለዕደዊሆሙ ወለአንስቲያሆሙ ።
I persecuted this Way to the death, binding and delivering into prisons both men and women,
22:5 ⧉ ⤴︎ ὡς καὶ ὁ ἀρχιερεὺς μαρτυρεῖ μοι καὶ πᾶν τὸ πρεσβυτέριον · παρ’ ὧν καὶ ἐπιστολὰς δεξάμενος πρὸς τοὺς ἀδελφοὺς εἰς Δαμασκὸν ἐπορευόμην ἄξων καὶ τοὺς ἐκεῖσε ὄντας δεδεμένους εἰς Ἱερουσαλὴμ ἵνα τιμωρηθῶσιν .
sicut princeps sacerdotum mihi testimonium reddit , et omnes majores natu : a quibus et epistolas accipiens , ad fratres Damascum pergebam , ut adducerem inde vinctos in Jerusalem ut punirentur .
ወየአምሩ ሊቃነ ካህናት ወረበናት ኵሎሙ እለ ነሣእኩ እምኀቤሆሙ መጽሐፈ መባሕት ከመ እሑር ኀበ አኀው እለ በደማስቆ ከመ አምጽኦሙ ለእለ ሀለዉ ህየ ወአእትዎሙ ሙቁሓኒሆሙ ኢየሩሳሌም ይትኰነኑ ።
as also the high priest and all the council of the elders testify, from whom also I received letters to the brothers, and traveled to Damascus to bring them also who were there to Jerusalem in bonds to be punished.
22:6 ⧉ ⤴︎ ἐγένετο δέ μοι πορευομένῳ καὶ ἐγγίζοντι τῇ Δαμασκῷ περὶ μεσημβρίαν ἐξαίφνης ἐκ τοῦ οὐρανοῦ περιαστράψαι φῶς ἱκανὸν περὶ ἐμέ ,
Factum est autem , eunte me , et appropinquante Damasco media die , subito de caelo circumfulsit me lux copiosa :
ወእምዝ እንዘ አሐውር ደማስቆ አልጺቅየ ኀበ ሀገር ሶበ ይከውን ቀትረ ግብተ በረቀ መብረቅ ዐቢይ እምሰማይ ላዕሌየ ።
“As I made my journey and came close to Damascus, about noon suddenly a great light shone around me from the sky.
22:7 ⧉ ⤴︎ ἔπεσά τε εἰς τὸ ἔδαφος καὶ ἤκουσα φωνῆς λεγούσης μοι , Σαοὺλ Σαούλ , τί με διώκεις ;
et decidens in terram , audivi vocem dicentem mihi : Saule , Saule , quid me persequeris ?
ወነጽሐኒ ውስተ ምድር ወሰማዕኩ ቃለ ዘይብለኒ ሳውል ሳውል ለምንት ትሰድደኒ ።
I fell to the ground and heard a voice saying to me, ‘Saul, Saul, why are you persecuting me?’
22:8 ⧉ ⤴︎ ἐγὼ δὲ ἀπεκρίθην , τίς εἶ , κύριε ; εἶπέν τε πρός ἐμέ , ἐγώ εἰμι Ἰησοῦς ὁ Ναζωραῖος ὃν σὺ διώκεις .
Ego autem respondi : Quis es , domine ? Dixitque ad me : Ego sum Jesus Nazarenus , quem tu persequeris .
ወተሰጠውክዎ ወእቤሎ መኑ አንተ እግዚኦ ወይቤለኒ አነ ውእቱ ኢየሱስ ናዝራዊ ዘአንተ ትሰድደኒ ።
I answered, ‘Who are you, Lord?’ He said to me, ‘I am Jesus of Nazareth, whom you persecute.’
22:9 ⧉ ⤴︎ οἱ δὲ σὺν ἐμοὶ ὄντες τὸ μὲν φῶς ἐθεάσαντο τὴν δὲ φωνὴν οὐκ ἤκουσαν τοῦ λαλοῦντός μοι .
Et qui mecum erant , lumen quidem viderunt , vocem autem non audierunt ejus qui loquebatur mecum .
ወእለ ሀለዉ ምስሌየ ርእዩ መብረቆ ወደንገፁ ወቃለሰ ዘይትናገረኒ ኢሰምዑ ።
“Those who were with me indeed saw the light and were afraid, but they didn’t understand the voice of him who spoke to me.
22:10 ⧉ ⤴︎ εἶπον δέ , τί ποιήσω , κύριε ; ὁ δὲ κύριος εἶπεν πρός με , ἀναστὰς πορεύου εἰς Δαμασκόν , κἀκεῖ σοι λαληθήσεται περὶ πάντων ὧν τέτακταί σοι ποιῆσαι .
Et dixi : Quid faciam , domine ? Dominus autem dixit ad me : Surgens vade Damascum : et ibi tibi dicetur de omnibus quae te oporteat facere .
ወእቤ ምንተ እግብር እግዚእየ ወይቤለኒ ተንሥእ ወሑር ደማስቆ ወበህየ ይነግሩከ ዘሀለወከ ትግበር ።
I said, ‘What shall I do, Lord?’ The Lord said to me, ‘Arise, and go into Damascus. There you will be told about all things which are appointed for you to do.’
22:11 ⧉ ⤴︎ ὡς δὲ οὐκ ἐνέβλεπον ἀπὸ τῆς δόξης τοῦ φωτὸς ἐκείνου , χειραγωγούμενος ὑπὸ τῶν συνόντων μοι ἦλθον εἰς Δαμασκόν .
Et cum non viderem prae claritate luminis illius , ad manum deductus a comitibus , veni Damascum .
ወእምዝ ተጸለልኩ አዕይንትየ እምግርማ መብረቅ ወአልቦ ዘእሬኢ ወእንዘ ይመርሑኒ እለ ምስሌየ በጻሕኩ ደማስቆ ።
When I couldn’t see for the glory of that light, being led by the hand of those who were with me, I came into Damascus.
22:12 ⧉ ⤴︎ Ἀνανίας δέ τις , ἀνὴρ εὐλαβὴς κατὰ τὸν νόμον , μαρτυρούμενος ὑπὸ πάντων τῶν κατοικούντων Ἰουδαίων ,
Ananias autem quidam vir secundum legem , testimonium habens ab omnibus cohabitantibus Judaeis ,
ወሀሎ አሐዱ ብእሲ ዘስሙ ሐናንያ ኄር ወፈራሄ እግዚአብሔር በሕግ ወይንእድዎ ኵሎሙ አይሁድ እለ ይነብሩ ደማስቆ ።
“One Ananias, a devout man according to the law, well reported of by all the Jews who lived in Damascus,
22:13 ⧉ ⤴︎ ἐλθὼν πρός ἐμὲ καὶ ἐπιστὰς εἶπέν μοι · Σαοὺλ ἀδελφέ , ἀνάβλεψον · κἀγὼ αὐτῇ τῇ ὥρᾳ ἀνέβλεψα εἰς αὐτόν .
veniens ad me et astans , dixit mihi : Saule frater , respice . Et ego eadem hora respexi in eum .
ወመጽአ ኀቤየ ወቆመ ቅድሜየ ወይቤለኒ ሳውል እኁየ ርኢ ወርኢኩ ሶቤሃ ።
came to me, and standing by me said to me, ‘Brother Saul, receive your sight!’ In that very hour I looked up at him.
22:14 ⧉ ⤴︎ ὁ δὲ εἶπεν , ὁ θεὸς τῶν πατέρων ἡμῶν προεχειρίσατό σε γνῶναι τὸ θέλημα αὐτοῦ καὶ ἰδεῖν τὸν δίκαιον καὶ ἀκοῦσαι φωνὴν ἐκ τοῦ στόματος αὐτοῦ ,
At ille dixit : Deus patrum nostrorum praeordinavit te , ut cognosceres voluntatem ejus , et videres justum , et audires vocem ex ore ejus :
ወይቤለኒ አምላከ አበዊነ ሤመከ ከመ ታእምር ፈቃዶ ወትርአዮ ለጻድቅ ወትስማዕ ቃሎ እምአፉሁ ።
He said, ‘The God of our fathers has appointed you to know his will, and to see the Righteous One, and to hear a voice from his mouth.
22:15 ⧉ ⤴︎ ὅτι ἔσῃ μάρτυς αὐτῷ πρὸς πάντας ἀνθρώπους ὧν ἑώρακας καὶ ἤκουσας .
quia eris testis illius ad omnes homines eorum quae vidisti et audisti .
ወትኵኖ ሰማዕቶ በኀበ ኵሉ ሕዝብ በዘርኢከ ወበዘሰማዕከ ።
For you will be a witness for him to all men of what you have seen and heard.
22:16 ⧉ ⤴︎ καὶ νῦν τί μέλλεις ; ἀναστὰς βάπτισαι καὶ ἀπόλυσαι τὰς ἁμαρτίας σου ἐπικαλεσάμενος τὸ ὄνομα αὐτοῦ .
Et nunc quid moraris ? Exsurge , et baptizare , et ablue peccata tua , invocato nomine ipsius .
ወይእዜኒ ዘከመ ትገብር እነግረከ ተንሥእ ወተጠመቅ ወተኀፀብ እምኀጣውኢከ ወጸውዕ ስሞ ።
Now why do you wait? Arise, be baptized, and wash away your sins, calling on the name of the Lord.’
22:17 ⧉ ⤴︎ ἐγένετο δέ μοι ὑποστρέψαντι εἰς Ἱερουσαλὴμ καὶ προσευχομένου μου ἐν τῷ ἱερῷ γενέσθαι με ἐν ἐκστάσει
Factum est autem revertenti mihi in Jerusalem , et oranti in templo , fieri me in stupore mentis ,
ወእምዝ ገቢእየ ኢየሩሳሌም እንዘ እጼሊ ሌሊተ በቤተ መቅደስ ደንገጽኩ ።
“When I had returned to Jerusalem and while I prayed in the temple, I fell into a trance
22:18 ⧉ ⤴︎ καὶ ἴδον αὐτὸν λέγοντά μοι , σπεῦσον καὶ ἔξελθε ἐν τάχει ἐξ Ἱερουσαλήμ , διότι οὐ παραδέξονταί σου μαρτυρίαν περὶ ἐμοῦ .
et videre illum dicentem mihi : Festina , et exi velociter ex Jerusalem : quoniam non recipient testimonium tuum de me .
ወርኢክዎ እንዘ ይብለኒ ፃእ ፍጡነ እምኢየሩሳሌም እስመ ኢይትዌከፉ ስምዐ ዚኣከ በእንቲኣየ ።
and saw him saying to me, ‘Hurry and get out of Jerusalem quickly, because they will not receive testimony concerning me from you.’
22:19 ⧉ ⤴︎ κἀγὼ εἶπον , κύριε , αὐτοὶ ἐπίστανται ὅτι ἐγὼ ἤμην φυλακίζων καὶ δέρων κατὰ τὰς συναγωγὰς τοὺς πιστεύοντας ἐπὶ σέ ·
Et ego dixi : Domine , ipsi sciunt quia ego eram concludens in carcerem , et caedens per synagogas eos qui credebant in te :
ወእቤ አነ እወ እግዚኦ ለሊሆሙ የአምሩ ከመ አነ ዘእሞቅሖሙ ወእቀሥፎሙ ለእለ የአምኑ ብከ በምኵራባቲሆሙ ።
I said, ‘Lord, they themselves know that I imprisoned and beat in every synagogue those who believed in you.
22:20 ⧉ ⤴︎ καὶ ὅτε ἐξεχύννετο τὸ αἷμα Στεφάνου τοῦ μάρτυρός σου , καὶ αὐτὸς ἤμην ἐφεστὼς καὶ συνευδοκῶν καὶ φυλάσσων τὰ ἱμάτια τῶν ἀναιρούντων αὐτόν .
et cum funderetur sanguis Stephani testis tui , ego astabam , et consentiebam , et custodiebam vestimenta interficientium illum .
ወአመሂ ቀተልዎ ለእስጢፋኖስ ሰማዕትከ ሀሎኩ ምስሌሆሙ ህየ ኅቡረ ወአዐቅብ አልባሲሆሙ ለእለ ቀተልዎ ።
When the blood of Stephen, your witness, was shed, I also was standing by, consenting to his death, and guarding the cloaks of those who killed him.’
22:21 ⧉ ⤴︎ καὶ εἶπεν πρός με , πορεύου , ὅτι ἐγὼ εἰς ἔθνη μακρὰν ἐξαποστελῶ σε .
Et dixit ad me : Vade , quoniam ego in nationes longe mittam te .
ወይቤለኒ ሑር እስመ እፌንወከ ኀበ አሕዛብ እለ ርኁቃን ትስብክ ወሰማዕክዎ ከመዝ ይቤለኒ ።
“He said to me, ‘Depart, for I will send you out far from here to the Gentiles.’ ”
22:22 ⧉ ⤴︎ Ἤκουον δὲ αὐτοῦ ἄχρι τούτου τοῦ λόγου καὶ ἐπῆραν τὴν φωνὴν αὐτῶν λέγοντες , αἶρε ἀπὸ τῆς γῆς τὸν τοιοῦτον , οὐ γὰρ καθῆκεν αὐτὸν ζῆν .
Audiebant autem eum usque ad hoc verbum , et levaverunt vocem suam , dicentes : Tolle de terra hujusmodi : non enim fas est eum vivere .
ወሶበ ሰምዑ ዘንተ ነገረ እምጳውሎስ ከልሑ በዐቢይ ቃል ወይቤሉ አእትቶ ለዘከመዝ እምብሔርነ እስመ ኢይደልዎ ይሕየው ።
They listened to him until he said that; then they lifted up their voice and said, “Rid the earth of this fellow, for he isn’t fit to live!”
22:23 ⧉ ⤴︎ κραυγαζόντων δὲ αὐτῶν καὶ ῥιπτούντων τὰ ἱμάτια καὶ κονιορτὸν βαλλόντων εἰς τὸν ἀέρα ,
Vociferantibus autem eis , et projicientibus vestimenta sua , et pulverem jactantibus in aërem ,
ወእንዘ ይጠርዑ ወይዌርዉ አልባሲሆሙ ወይዘርዉ ጸበለ ውስተ ነፋስ ።
As they cried out, threw off their cloaks, and threw dust into the air,
22:24 ⧉ ⤴︎ ἐκέλευσεν ὁ χιλίαρχος εἰσάγεσθαι αὐτὸν εἰς τὴν παρεμβολήν , εἴπας μάστιξιν ἀνετάζεσθαι αὐτὸν ἵνα ἐπιγνῷ δι’ ἣν αἰτίαν οὕτως ἐπεφώνουν αὐτῷ .
jussit tribunus induci eum in castra , et flagellis caedi , et torqueri eum , ut sciret propter quam causam sic acclamarent ei .
ወአዘዘ መልአክ ያብእዎ ውስተ ምኵናን ወይቅሥፍዎ ወይሕትትዎ ጌጋዮ ከመ ያእምር በእንተ ምንት የዐወይዉ ላዕሌሁ ።
the commanding officer commanded him to be brought into the barracks, ordering him to be examined by scourging, that he might know for what crime they shouted against him like that.
22:25 ⧉ ⤴︎ ὡς δὲ προέτειναν αὐτὸν τοῖς ἱμᾶσιν εἶπεν πρὸς τὸν ἑστῶτα ἑκατόνταρχον ὁ Παῦλος · εἰ ἄνθρωπον Ῥωμαῖον καὶ ἀκατάκριτον ἔξεστιν ὑμῖν μαστίζειν ;
Et cum astrinxissent eum loris , dicit astanti sibi centurioni Paulus : Si hominem Romanum et indemnatum licet vobis flagellare ?
ወሶበ ሰሐብዎ በእገሪሁ ማእከለ እለ ይቀሥፍዎ ይቤሎ ጳውሎስ ለሐቢ ዘይቀውም ኀቤሁ ይከውነክሙሁ ትቅሥፉ ሰብአ ሮሜ ዘእንበለ አበሳ ።
When they had tied him up with straps, Paul asked the centurion who stood by, “Is it lawful for you to scourge a man who is a Roman, and not found guilty?”
22:26 ⧉ ⤴︎ ἀκούσας δὲ ὁ ἑκατοντάρχης προσελθὼν τῷ χιλιάρχῳ ἀπήγγειλεν λέγων · τί μέλλεις ποιεῖν ; ὁ γὰρ ἄνθρωπος οὗτος Ῥωμαῖός ἐστιν .
Quo audito , centurio accessit ad tribunum , et nuntiavit ei , dicens : Quid acturus es ? hic enim homo civis Romanus est .
ወሰሚዖ ሐቢ ሖረ ኀበ መልአክ ወነገሮ ወይቤሎ አእምር ዘትገብር ዝኩ ብእሲ ሰብአ ሮሜ ውእቱ ።
When the centurion heard it, he went to the commanding officer and told him, “Watch what you are about to do, for this man is a Roman!”
22:27 ⧉ ⤴︎ προσελθὼν δὲ ὁ χιλίαρχος εἶπεν αὐτῷ · λέγε μοι , σὺ Ῥωμαῖος εἶ ; ὁ δὲ ἔφη , ναί .
Accedens autem tribunus , dixit illi : Dic mihi si tu Romanus es ? At ille dixit : Etiam .
ወቀርበ ኀቤሁ መልአክ ወይቤሎ ንግረኒ እስኩ ሰብአ ሮሜኑ አንተ ወይቤ እወ ።
The commanding officer came and asked him, “Tell me, are you a Roman?” He said, “Yes.”
22:28 ⧉ ⤴︎ ἀπεκρίθη δὲ ὁ χιλίαρχος · ἐγὼ πολλοῦ κεφαλαίου τὴν πολιτείαν ταύτην ἐκτησάμην . ὁ δὲ Παῦλος ἔφη · ἐγὼ δὲ καὶ γεγέννημαι .
Et respondit tribunus : Ego multa summa civilitatem hanc consecutus sum . Et Paulus ait : Ego autem et natus sum .
ወተሰጥዎ መልአክ ወይቤሎ አንሰኬ ብዙኀ ንዋየ ውሂብየ ረከብክዋ ለዛቲ ሢመት ወይቤሎ ጳውሎስ አንሰኬ በህየ ተወለድኩ ።
The commanding officer answered, “I bought my citizenship for a great price.” Paul said, “But I was born a Roman.”
22:29 ⧉ ⤴︎ εὐθέως οὖν ἀπέστησαν ἀπ’ αὐτοῦ οἱ μέλλοντες αὐτὸν ἀνετάζειν · καὶ ὁ χιλίαρχος δὲ ἐφοβήθη ἐπιγνοὺς ὅτι Ῥωμαῖός ἐστιν καὶ ὅτι αὐτὸν ἦν δεδεκώς .
Protinus ergo discesserunt ab illo qui eum torturi erant . Tribunus quoque timuit postquam rescivit , quia civis Romanus esset , et quia alligasset eum .
ወእምዝ ኀደግዎ እለ ይፈቅዱ ይቅሥፍዎ ወመልአክኒ ፈርሀ አእሚሮ ከመ ሰብአ ሮሜ ውእቱ ።
Immediately those who were about to examine him departed from him, and the commanding officer also was afraid when he realized that he was a Roman, because he had bound him.
22:30 ⧉ ⤴︎ Τῇ δὲ ἐπαύριον βουλόμενος γνῶναι τὸ ἀσφαλὲς τὸ τί κατηγορεῖται ὑπὸ τῶν Ἰουδαίων ἔλυσεν αὐτόν , καὶ ἐκέλευσεν συνελθεῖν τοὺς ἀρχιερεῖς καὶ πᾶν τὸ συνέδριον , καὶ καταγαγὼν τὸν Παῦλον ἔστησεν εἰς αὐτούς .
Postera autem die volens scire diligentius qua ex causa accusaretur a Judaeis , solvit eum , et jussit sacerdotes convenire , et omne concilium : et producens Paulum , statuit inter illos .
ወበሳኒታ ፈቀደ መልአክ ያእምር ጥዩቀ በእንተ ምንት ያስተዋድይዎ አይሁድ ወፈትሐ ማእሰሮ ወአዘዘ ይምጽኡ ሊቃነ ካህናት ወኵሉ ዐውድ ወአምጽኦ ለጳውሎስ ወአቀሞ ማእከሎሙ ።
But on the next day, desiring to know the truth about why he was accused by the Jews, he freed him from the bonds and commanded the chief priests and all the council to come together, and brought Paul down and set him before them.
